Influence of magnetic field on MHD mixed convection in lid-driven cavity with heated wavy bottom surface

This study investigates the influence of a rectangular heat source on magnetohydrodynamic hybrid convection flow in a lid-driven cavity. The effects of various parameters, such as the heat source size, magnetic field strength, and heat absorption/generation, are analyzed. The results show that increasing the heat source size decreases the average Nusselt number along the heated wall. The average Nusselt number also decreases with higher magnetic field strength and heat generation, while it increases with heat absorption. The major finding is to apply an important technique the Galerkin weighted residual technique of the finite element (FE) method to solve the non-dimensional equations and the associated boundary conditions. The isotherms are used to show the temperature distribution in a domain. Streamline present the flow field in the enclosure. However, it is easy to realize the direction and intensity of the heat transfer particularly in convection problems which the path of heat flux is perpendicular and the isotherm due to convection effect. Thus, the purpose of this research is to study the results of mixed convection. The effects of location and height of the partitions are considered for the various Richardson numbers. Fluid flow field, thermal field and heat transfer are presented through the streamlines and isotherms, respectively. Results are substantiated relating to the published work.

Mixed Convection in Lid-Driven Cavity with Inclined Magnetic Field

Effects of magnetic field inclination on fluid flow and heat transfer in a two-dimensional square cavity are analyzed numerically. The vertical walls are well insulated, the bottom wall is maintained at a cold temperature, while the top moving lid is kept at a hot temperature. The finite volume method and SIMPLE algorithm are employed to solve the dimensionless governing equations. The results are presented by the profile of streamlines and isotherms, and the variation of Nusselt number. Mixed convection flow is retarded by the presence of the magnetic field and the average Nusselt number is an increasing function of the magnetic field angle.

Purpose– The purpose of this paper is to model mixed convection in a square cavity included circular cylinders motion using an incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics (ISPH) technique.Design/methodology/approach– The problem is solved numerically by using the ISPH method.Findings– The SPH tool shows robust performance to simulate the rigid body motion in the mixed convective flow with heat transfer, and it may apply easily to complicated problems in 2D and 3D problem without difficulties.Originality/value– The application of the SPH method to mixed convective flow with heat transfer and its potential application easily to complicated 3D problems is original.

MHD mixed convection in a lid-driven cavity including heat conducting circular solid object and corner heaters with Joule heating

A two-dimensional finite-volume based numerical approach is adopted to solve the hydro-magnetic mixed convection in a horizontal lid-driven square cavity with a circular solid object. The object is located centrally within the enclosure. Part of the bottom and the right walls are taken to be constant temperature heaters. The top boundary of the cavity is moving with uniform speed and kept at a constant temperature lower than the heaters. All other boundary segments are considered thermally insulated. For simulation purposes, the corner heater sizes are altered (XL=YL=0.25,0.50,0.75), keeping the overall sizes of the cavity and the solid object fixed. The mixed convection is studied for the Richardson number range (0.1≤Ri≤10) keeping the Reynolds number based on the lid velocity fixed as Re=100. The magnetic effect is brought in by varying the Hartmann number (0≤Ha≤50) along with the variation of Joule heating parameter (0≤J≤5). The results indicate a major influence of the prevailing convection method and the applied magnetic field on the flow as well as the thermal field, while the effect of Joule heating is found to be of very small significance.
