Objective To investigate the effect of mirabilite external application on swelling and pain of patients with tibiofibular fracture. Methods A total of 60 patients with tibiofibular fracture in this hospital from June 2016 to June 2018 were randomly divided into treatment group and control group, with 30 patients each. The control group adopted the treatment method of elevating the affected limb immediately after the trauma and intravenous drip of 20% mannitol. On the basis of the control group, the treatment group began to use glauber's salt external application on the day of admission.After 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours after injury, the degree of swelling and pain in the two groups were compared. Results There were statistically significant differences in swelling degree between the two groups at 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours after treatment and before treatment (P<0.01), and the degree of swelling reduction in the treatment group was significantly better than that in the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.01). VAS scores in the treatment group and control group decreased significantly after 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours of treatment compared with that before treatment, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05), and pain relief in the treatment group was significantly better than that in the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05). Conclusions Early local application of mirabilite in patients with tibiofibular fracture can effectively reduce the swelling and pain of patients.
