Students’ Perception toward Microteaching Class in Relation with Internship Program

Microteaching is one of the core courses required by English Language Education students before undertaking an internship program. To be a professional teacher, a teacher must have 4 competencies those are pedagogical competence, personality competence, social competence, and professional competence. Thus, microteaching is needed for students-teachers to help them improve their teaching skills. The purpose of this study is to highlight the students’ perception of microteaching courses on specific topics such as students’ experiences in improving their teaching skills through feedback given by their lecturer and friends, the importance of microteaching for students, and students' need during the process of the microteaching class. The research subjects were 35 undergraduate English Language Education students (2018 cohort) who have taken microteaching courses and internship programs. This research used a qualitative descriptive method using explorative case study. The instruments for the data collection were questionnaires and interviews. The result showed positive attitudes towards the microteaching course. This research discovers the usefulness of microteaching classes in 3 aspects which are enriching students' knowledge before they teach in a real situation in an internship program, improving teaching skills to be implemented in their internship program, and helping students get the basic knowledge from the lecturer for developing lesson plans and learning media. Moreover, it builds student-teachers’ self-confidence and increases teaching skills in peer-teaching.

Differences in Scientific Argumentation Skills of Preservice Physics Teachers in Written and Oral Contexts: A Case Study of Video-Based Microteaching Learning

This study aims to analyze the profile of scientific argumentation skills of preservice physics teachers in the context of written case studies and oral presentations through video-based microteaching learning. Data was collected from 15 preservice physics teachers participating in a microteaching course. Qualitative analysis of argumentation components (claim, reason, evidence, rebuttal, conclusion) revealed significant differences in argumentation skills between the two contexts. In written case studies, students demonstrated a relatively good ability to present evidence. However, they needed to improve in formulating claims and reasons. Meanwhile, in oral presentations, there was a significant increase in all components of argumentation, particularly claims, reasons, rebuttals, and conclusions. These findings have important implications for developing more effective microteaching learning to improve the scientific argumentation skills of preservice physics teachers.

Students' Perception of Peer-teaching Method in Training Teaching Skills of Prospective Elementary School Teachers

This study explores students' responses to how the peer teaching method in microteaching lectures can provide teaching skills to become elementary school teachers. The research applied a quantitative descriptive method by analyzing questionnaire instruments distributed to 35 elementary school teacher education students who took microteaching courses in the fourth semester. Data collection used a closed-ended questionnaire instrument and focus group discussions to identify teaching skills that are still needed by students to be trained through peer teaching. The results of the data analysis showed that the average student perception of peer-teaching reached an average of > 4 (figure 1) out of 12 questionnaire questions. This figure indicates a good category. The results of the focus group discussion obtained data that what still needs to be trained through peer teaching is adjusting learning strategies to the learning material and the background of students and eliminating the fear of making mistakes that make them insecure in front of their peers. Based on the results of data analysis, it is concluded that students' perceptions are good about peer teaching and can help them equip teaching skills as prospective elementary school teachers. However, it is still necessary to add skill training through peer teaching about adjusting learning strategies to the material being taught and eliminating self-confidence. From the findings of this study, it is suggested that to prepare the competence of elementary school teachers through micro-teaching courses, the peer teaching method needs to be maintained but it needs to be added to the content of skills that are still needed by students, namely preparing lesson plans.

Microteaching is one of the courses that must be programmed by all students in the history education study program, in the sixth semester as a prerequisite before students go to school to carry out practical field experiences. The micro teaching course is a very vital activity for every student at the Teaching Faculty, and fulfills the need to be able to position himself completely and professionally in the teaching field. The aim of this microteaching course is to train basic teaching skills and prepare students in the history education study program as prospective teachers to face full teaching work in the classroom by having the knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes as professional teachers. The role of lecturers in microteaching courses and student activity in learning activities is very important. In Micro Teaching learning activities, there are 10 basic skills that are really needed by a prospective teacher, including, 1) skills to open learning, 2) skills to explain, 3) skills to provide variations, 4) skills to ask questions, 5) skills to guide group discussions, 6) skills in guiding group discussions, 6) small group and individual teaching skills, 7) class management skills, 8) reinforcement skills, 9) skills in using media or tools, and 10) skills in closing learning. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, where the data obtained is processed in narrative form.

Need analysis for innovation in integrated learning models for micro-teaching course: Explanatory sequential design

One of the keys to successful learning model development is conducting a comprehensive needs analysis on actual performance, desired performance, and causes of performance gaps. This research aims to analyze student performance needs so that they can become a credible basis for consideration when designing the syntax of learning experiences for integrated learning models for micro-teaching courses. Researchers used an explanatory sequential design when completing the study, so quantitative research became the main focus for data collection and analysis, which was emphasized by qualitative studies. There were 107 research respondents, namely 75 students, two lecturers, and 30 physical education teachers. Data on actual performance, desired performance, and causes of performance gaps on the variables of teaching skills, analytical thinking skills, academic integrity, and transformational leadership were collected using 12 statements. Qualitative data was collected using semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed descriptively and with Kruskal-Wallis to test differences in actual performance and desired performance of the three groups of respondents. Meanwhile, for qualitative data, researchers used thematic analysis. The results of the Kruskal-Wallis test prove that there are no significant differences between the three groups of respondents in actual performance (0.365 0.05) or desired performance (0.758 0.05). Students, lecturers, and teachers agree that teaching skills, analytical thinking skills, academic integrity, and transformational leadership are important requirements in developing integrated learning models. Meanwhile, the causes of performance gaps are not limited to lack of training experience, lack of opportunity to analyze problems and make decisions, lack of role models, or lack of support from lecturers and colleagues in lectures. Thus, in developing the model, the performance tasks designed must be able to overcome this performance gap by increasing students' experience in operational and clinical exercises during lectures

PERSEPI MANFAAT MICRO TEACHING TERHADAP PENINGKATAN KOMPETENSI GURU SEKOLAH DASAR DALAM ASPEK PEDAGOGIK DAN KEPRIBADIAN

This research aims to analyze the perceived benefits of microteaching in increasing the competence of elementary school teachers in pedagogical and personality aspects (Study of Unmus-UNY PPG Students). This is a quantitative descriptive research. The subjects of this research were active students who took part in Micro Teaching lessons at PPG Unmus-UNY, students who had completed the Microteaching course and elementary school principals as well as elementary school teachers who were certified as Teachers in the city of Merauke, with a total of approximately 30 respondents. The sampling technique uses purposive random sampling. Primary data is processed using simple statistics. Data collection was carried out in the form of FGD activities and the data was collected using a questionnaire which distributed via Google Form. The instrument used to obtain research data was by filling out a questionnaire. The data analysis technique used in this research is quantitative analysis. The type of scale used to measure data is the Likert scale. The results of this research found that the benefits of Microteaching for PPG–Unmus students provide great benefits in increasing competence in pedagogical and personality aspects. Most students, 75%, stated that they agreed with the benefits they received, while 0% said they disagreed.

The Effect of Microteaching Lectures in Improving Nine Basic Teaching Skills for University Students

The microteaching course is a course that is obligated to students of the Islamic Religious Education study program at Universitas Negeri Padang. This course aims to train students to master basic teaching skills while implementing them in the classroom. This research aims to analyze whether the microteaching course is effective to improve students' ability to master nine basic teaching skills before and after taking the microteaching course. This research uses quantitative methods with a correlational approach. Data sources were taken from active students of the Islamic Religious Education study program at Universitas Negeri Padang batch 2020. All research data was processed statistically using quantitative analysis software IBM SPSS Version 29 For Mac. The results of the analysis show that the microteaching course is effective in improving the ability of Islamic Religious Education students to master nine basic teaching skills before and after taking the microteaching course according to student perceptions. The results of this research can be used as initial data for future researchers in studying this problem in different contexts and issues.

Online Microteaching: Unveiling Female Pre-service Physics Teachers Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK)

Global trends show that men dominate physics-related jobs. However, there is a unique phenomenon, especially in Indonesia in the physics teacher education program where there are more female students than male students. This study aims to determine the TPACK of female pre-service physics teachers consisting of 15 pre-service teachers taking microteaching courses and making their online learning videos. The videos were used as a data collection tool. A microteaching observation sheet was used to analyze data obtained from observations with two raters. The observation sheet consisted of 6 aspects which were content knowledge (CK), pedagogical knowledge (PK), technological knowledge (TK), pedagogical content knowledge (PCK), technological content knowledge (TCK), and technological pedagogical knowledge (TPK) with four indicators for each aspect and the maximum score per aspect is four. The overall TPACK score was obtained by calculating the average of all aspects. Although the overall result of female pre-service physics teachers is 2.1 which is sufficient, technological-related aspects need more concern. The results showed that female pre-service physics teachers lack technological pedagogical knowledge (TPK). On the contrary, they have high pedagogical knowledge (PK). Teacher education programs should provide opportunities for female pre-service teachers to develop their TPACK. Online microteaching can be the key to helping female pre-service physics teachers to integrate technology into their learning. Using Lesson Study Model on Biology Microteaching for Improving Technology Pedagogy Content Islamic Knowledge

Microteaching is one of the crucial subjects to equip prospective teachers with technology pedagogy and content knowledge (TPCAK). In Islamic higher education institutions, TPACK is expanded to include technology pedagogy content islamic knowledge (TPCIK). This study explored the impact of the application of lesson study on micro-teaching on the ability of TPCIK from the aspect of cognitive knowledge, metacognitive attitude, and skills. The research method used a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group. The research sample was Biology Education students who took micro-teaching courses, 19 in the control and 22 in the experimental classes. The instrument for measuring TPCIK used a test for assessing cognitive knowledge, self-assessment for assessing metacognitive attitude, and observation for assessing teaching skills. The results showed that TPCIK skills were seen from the self-assessment and observation results with a good average (value of more than 70), and there was no significant difference between the control and experimental groups. The result of the cognitive test is low, the average is less than 60, and there are differences between the control and experimental groups; in terms of knowledge, the group of students who applied the lesson study model is significantly better than the group using the conventional approach

Analysis of Students Basic Teaching Skills on Teaching Practice of Micro-Teaching Courses

Basic teaching skills are skills that prospective teacher students must have. This research aims to determine the level of basic teaching skills in teaching practice among Biology Education students taking the Micro Teaching course in class A group B in 2022/2023. Data was collected from observations of student teaching practices through peer teaching. The instrument used is an observation sheet derived from indicators of eight aspects of basic teaching skills, with answer choices using a Likert scale. The data was analyzed descriptively by calculating the average score obtained by each indicator on the eight aspects of basic teaching skills observed. The observation results show that students' average in all aspects of basic teaching skills is very good. In contrast, the results of observations on the indicators for each element of skills show categories that vary from quite good, good, and very good. It can be concluded that students have been able to apply the eight aspects of basic teaching skills in teaching practice very well. However, if we look at the indicators for each aspect of skills, there are still students in the quite good and good categories.

Preservice teachers' reflections on lesson study integration into a microteaching course

This study aimed to determine the impact of lesson study taught in a microteaching course on improving the pedagogical skill of preservice teachers. Learning video analysis, self-assessment, and peer assessment of collaboration skills were used to measure increases in pedagogical skills. In total, 18 preservice teachers participated in this study. The author analyzed the critical reflection conducted by preservice teachers after they acted as model teachers and the final reflection about the course as the primary data in the research. The research results showed positive attitudes of preservice teachers toward integrating lesson study into microteaching courses. Analysis of the learning videos showed that preservice teachers could impact their learning climate by applying lesson study-based microteaching (LSbM). Support for the quantitative analysis of self- and peer-assessment of collaboration skills also showed a significant increase in collaboration skills. Applying LSbM increased students’ understanding of learning methods, learning technology, and student involvement in learning. It also encouraged students to employ collaboration and reflection in their future learning. The findings and impact of this study were to provide an overview for educational universities regarding the impact of using LSbM on increasing the pedagogical skill of their current teacher candidates, as well as the impact on the professional development of their graduate teachers in the future. Universities can use this model in their microteaching courses to prepare prospective teachers according to current needs.

MICROTEACHING LESSON ON INCREASING THE STUDENT TEACHERS’ ABILITY IN TEACHING ENGLISH

The goal of this study is to find out what student teachers think about the benefits of the Microteaching Lesson for Teaching Ability at PGRI Palembang University. The study's team of researchers used a qualitative descriptive strategy. There are 30 sixth-semester English education student teachers as the participants. Data collection techniques included observation, interview, questionnair, and documentation. In order to collect data, the researcher interviewed 30 student teachers to learn more about five different issues. She then gave a questionnaire containing 15 statements to 30 student teachers. The findings of the questionnaire showed that students believed that microteaching had a beneficial effect on their capacity to instruct. Based on the results of the interviews, the researcher also came to the conclusion that the narrative presentations of the students demonstrated how their perceptions of the microteaching course affected their teaching strategies. Students think that by taking part in microteaching, they will be able to improve their teaching abilities through lesson preparation, content explanation, time-management, and teaching self-confidence abilities.

EFFECTIVENESS OF PJBL (PROJECT BASED LEARNING) BASED MICROTEACHING MODULES STUDENT LEARNING RESULTS ON BASIC TEACHING SKILLS MATERIAL

<span class="ShortAbstract"><em><span>This study aims to test the module's effectiveness on student learning outcomes in microteaching courses. The type of research used is Pre-Experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design. In this study, the treatment given was using teaching modules on essential teaching skills material. The research took place in the anthropology education study program, faculty of social sciences, State University of Medan. With research subjects totalling 30 students who received microteaching courses in the 2022/2023 academic year. Before getting the treatment, students were given a pretest, and after being given the treatment, a posttest was conducted with 50 questions in the form of objective or multiple-choice questions. The increase in learning outcomes was analyzed using the N-Gain formula. Based on the results of the N-Gain analysis, the average value was 0.41. There was an increase in student learning outcomes after using the microteaching module based on the PjBL (Project Learning) learning model on essential teaching skills material with a moderate category. </span></em></span>

Unveiling the TPACK profile: Exploring mathematics prospective teachers in the micro teaching course

The objective of this research is to ascertain the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) profile of prospective mathematics teachers in the microteaching course. The research methodology employed a survey research design. The target population for this investigation comprises prospective mathematics teacher students enrolled at a University in Banten, Indonesia. The sample for this study comprises students in their sixth semester of the Mathematics Education program who are currently enrolled in the microteaching course. The inclusion criteria for the sample require that these students have successfully completed coursework in foundational technology use, pedagogical principles, and both basic and advanced mathematics subjects. The research findings indicate that the majority of students exhibit a high level of Technological Content Knowledge (TCK) and Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK), with percentages of 50% and 81.25% respectively. On the other hand, the majority of students demonstrate a moderate level of Pedagogical Knowledge (PK) and Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK), with percentages of 56.25% and 31.25% respectively. Moreover, a significant portion of students show a low level of Technological Knowledge (TK) at 31.25%, Content Knowledge (CK) at 37.5%, and Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) at 37.5%. It conluded, most prospective tezchers use the Technological Conten Knowledge (TCK) and Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) domains to conduct learning.

Development of Interactive Teaching Materials in Reflective Microteaching for Prospective Teacher Students

Reflective-based interactive media in microteaching is a valuable tool for improving teaching and developing teacher professionalism. Through the use of digital technology and a structured process of reflection, teachers can more effectively identify weaknesses in their teaching practices and make necessary improvements. This research aims to develop interactive teaching materials in reflective microteaching learning to shape the professional character of prospective teachers. This research is development research using the ADDIE model which has 5 development stages, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, dan evaluation, Due to time constraints, this research is still limited to this stage development due to research limitations. The validation results from material and media experts stated that this teaching material was very valid with a percentage score of 95.09% and 96.25% respectively in the "very valid" category. The feasibility test was carried out by the lecturer in charge of the microteaching course with a result of 94.93% in the "very feasible" category. The student teacher response was 93.00% in the "very good" category. From this data, the media in the form of interactive microteaching teaching materials that have been developed can be used as media in microteaching courses and can help students identify deficiencies that need to be corrected in each teaching practice and for lecturers to make them available platform who helps with the learning process microteaching.

Development of Microteaching Learning Device Prototypes based on Hybrid Learning, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of West Sulawesi

The aim of this study was to develop prototypes of microteaching learning devices based on hybrid learning at the Teaching and Education Faculty of the University of West Sulawesi that meet content validity. The type of research used is Research and Development (R&D) with the development design of the Four-D Model. The research subjects were expert validators, and prospective users, namely FKIP University of West Sulawesi lecturers in charge of the microteaching course and students of the Teaching and Education Faculty of the University of West Sulawesi who would program the Microteaching course. The content validation results from 2 expert validators on the Semester Learning Plan were 93.75%. The results of the handout and video validation assessment were 92.44%. The results of the validation of the observation sheet validation were 93.05%. Meanwhile, student assessment on the handout accompanied by video was 79.62%. Therefore, based on the results obtained the development of this learning prototype fulfills content validity or can be said to be valid

Pre-Service English Teachers’ Voice on Virtual Teaching Practice: Shifting from Face-to-Face Teaching into Virtual Teaching

Pre-service English teachers face various challenges that can significantly impact their competencies and roles, particularly in dealing with students and fellow teachers. The COVID-19 pandemic has added an extra layer of complexity by necessitating the transition from traditional face-to-face learning to online education. This shift is evident in the case of the microteaching course, which originally took place in a physical classroom but was abruptly moved to an online format. This study aims to examine the experiences of pre-service English teachers in virtual teaching practice and how they navigate the challenges associated with professional development during the microteaching course. A total of 31 pre-service English teachers participated in this research, engaging in virtual teaching practice. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, questionnaires, and reflective journals. The findings indicate that pre-service English teachers acknowledge the ineffectiveness of virtual microteaching, citing difficulties in managing and accessing teaching processes as well as the challenges of creating suitable teaching materials. As a result, future pedagogical practices should focus on enhancing the preparation and design of teaching and learning materials to better support the professional development of pre-service English teachers. This will ultimately contribute to their growth as educators during their teaching internships.

Prospective Teachers‘ Barriers during Microteaching Course

Microteaching is one of the methods for mastering teaching skills in a teaching institution. In conducting microteaching, teachers and students may experience difficulties or barriers. Barriers that will be discussed in this discussion are those prospective teachers with less teaching experience may encounter. This study aims to know about the barriers or problems faced by the students in the seventh semester of the English Education Study Program of IAIN Palangka Raya in conducting a microteaching course. The study uses a descriptive qualitative method. Interviews are used as a data collection technique to conduct preliminary research to find barriers. Eleventh student teachers were selected as participants by using purposive sampling. This study showed that student teachers faced specific problems during microteaching courses. The barriers were revealed from their interview result. The barriers faced by student teachers were categorized based on Bartell’s procedural, managerial, psychological, instructional, professional, cultural, and political categories. From the data collected, teacher students faced three main barriers during microteaching. The barriers are Managerial (time management, class management), Psychological (anxiety, nervous), and Instructional (Instructional practice, strategy of teaching). The other barriers, such as professional (appropriate limits and relationships between teachers and students) and cultural (language differences), were briefly discussed.

Reflective Practices of Pre-Service Teachers: Self-reflections on Micro Teaching

This study aims to reveal pre-service teachers' (PSTs) self-reflections on micro-teaching practices. The study was conducted with a qualitative approach. The participants of the study consisted of 117 PSTs from 9 different branches who took the Micro-teaching (Elective) course at the faculty of education of a state university in Türkiye in the 2021-2022 academic year. According to the aim of the study, PSTs did micro-teaching practices. The micro-teaching practices were video-recorded and watched by the PST. The practice was evaluated by the PSTs peers and delivered to the PST in writing. The qualitative data of the study were obtained with the "Self-reflection Form" prepared by the researchers. This form consists of two open-ended questions about the strengths and weaknesses that pre-service teachers realized during the microteaching practice. The data were analyzed by content analysis method. It was found that PST described their strengths and weaknesses in planning, process, and assessment categories. PSTs emphasized their weaknesses more than their strengths for the planning category. In the category of planning, pre-service teachers stated that their strengths were that they were able to prepare lesson plans with well-rounded activities and integrity, and their weaknesses were that they could not manage their time properly and that they realized that the activities and examples were not suitable for the grade level. In the category of processing, they emphasized strengths more than weaknesses. The PSTs consider themselves strongest in lesson management and stated that they need to improve their diction, voice, and oratory skills. The assessment was the least opinioned category by the PSTs. For the assessment of the lesson, PSTs thought that they achieved the outcome by focusing on the teaching process, which was considered successful.
