Joule heating effect on radiating MHD mixed convection stagnation point flow along vertical stretching sheet embedded in a permeable medium and heat generation/absorption

AbstractThe goal of this study is to investigate magnetohydrodynamics varied convective stagnation point stream with a vertically extended sheet embedded in a permeable material. Warmth generation/absorption, radiation impacts, and viscous dissipation are all considered. Using the process of likeness change, the principal boundary layer equations are written and turned into nonlinear ordinary joined differential equations, and the numerical result is produced using the Runge–Kutta fourth‐order approach via shooting technique. Varied physical limits have different effects, such as velocity fraction restriction, mixed convection restriction, Hartmann numeral, Prandtl numeral, permeability restriction, warm air radiation restriction, hotness generation/absorption restriction, and so on, over velocity and temperature scatterings are introduced graphically and then mathematically. The skin friction constant, in addition to Nusselt numerals, over the sheet is determined, expressed mathematically as well as introduced through tables. Fluid velocity and temperature increase with radiation restriction Ra. Skin friction and Nusselt numeral are increasing functions of Hartmann numeral Ha, and decreasing ones of permeability restriction K.

Radiation Effect on MHD Stagnation-point Flow of a Nanofluid over an Exponentially Stretching Sheet in the Presence of Chemical Reaction

The effect of chemical reaction parameter on magnetohydrodynamic boundary layer flow of nanofluid past an exponentially stretching sheet is presented. An appropriate set of similarity transformations are used to transform the governing partial differential equations (PDEs) into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The resulting system of ODEs is solved numerically by using the 4th order Adam’s - Moultan method along with shooting technique. The numerical results are analyzed by graphs for different parameters which appear in the solution affecting the MHD mixed convection stagnation point.

MHD mixed convection stagnation point flow of a viscous fluid over a lubricated vertical surface

PurposeAn attempt is made to study magnetohydrodynamic viscous fluid impinging orthogonally toward a stagnation point on a vertical surface lubricated with power law fluid. It has been assumed that the surface temperature varies linearly with the distance from the stagnation point. The problem is governed by system of partial differential equations for both the base fluid and the lubricant. The continuity of velocity and shear stress is assumed at the interface layer between the base fluid and the lubricant. Dimensionless variables are introduced to transform original problem into ordinary differential equations. An implicit finite-difference scheme known as the Keller-Box method is implemented to obtain the numerical solutions. The influence of various important parameters is presented in the form of graphs and tables. The limiting cases for full and no-slip conditions are deduced from the present solutions. A comparison of the present results with the existing results in the special case validates the obtained numerical solutions. The purpose of this study is to see the behaviour of flow characteristics in the presence of lubrication.Design/methodology/approachThe authors’ problem is governed by system of partial differential equations for both the base fluid and the lubricant. In the case of full slip, the effects of viscosity are suppressed by the lubricant. The temperature of the base fluid decreases by increase in lubrication on the surface. By increasing the slip on the surface, the skin friction decreases and local Nusselt number increases, but the rate of increase or decrease is less in magnitude for the case of opposing flow. The similarity solutions only exist for n = 1/2. A non-similar solution is obtained for the other values of the power-law index n.Originality/valueThe study of flow phenomenon over a lubricated surface has important applications in machinery components such as fluid bearings and mechanical seals. Coating is another major application of lubrication including the preparation of thin films, printing, painting, etc. The authors hope that the current study will provide the roadmap for the future studies in this direction.

Chemical reaction, soret and dufour effects on MHD mixed convection stagnation point flow with radiation and slip condition

The main aim of the present study, the effects of Soret & Dufour on MHD mixed convection flow of a viscous fluid towards a vertical plate embedded in a porous medium in the existence of slip, radiation and chemical reaction. The numerical solutions acquired using shooting method and the governing equations are reformed into ordinary differential equations by similarity transformation. The present results compared with previously presented works are found in good agreement on several distinct cases. The effects of different parameters on velocity, temperature & concentration distributions are illustrated graphically. The variation of diverse parameters on local skin friction, rates of heat and mass transfer are obtainable in tabular arrangement. The velocity, temperature increases on increasing the Dufour parameter and the concentration profiles decreases when chemical reaction parameter increases.

Mixed Convection MHD Stagnation Point Flow over a Stretching Surface with the Effects of Heat Source or Sink and Viscous Dissipation

The present study deals with MHD mixed convection stagnation point flow over a stretching sheet with the effects of heat source/sink and viscous dissipation including convective boundary conditions. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations by applying similarity transformations. These equations are then solved numerically by using finite difference scheme known as the Keller Box method. The effects of various parameters on velocity and temperature profiles are presented graphically interpreted and the results are discussed.

Effects of chemical reaction on MHD mixed convection stagnation point flow toward a vertical plate in a porous medium with radiation and heat generation

The aim of the present study is to analyze the effects of chemical reaction on MHD mixed convection with the stagnation point flow towards a vertical plate embedded in a porous medium with radiation and internal heat generation. The governing boundary layer equations are transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations. Then they are solved by shooting technique with Runge-Kutta fourth order iteration. The obtained numerical results are illustrated graphically and the heat and mass transfer rates are given in tabular form. The velocity and temperature profiles overshoot near the plate on increasing the chemical reaction parameter, Richardson number and magnetic field parameter.

The MHD Mixed Convection Stagnation Point Flow and Heat Transfer in a Porous Medium

The steady two dimensional laminar MHD mixed convection stagnation point flow and heat transfer past a heated semi-infinite permeable surface embedded in a porous medium have been discussed using the mixed convection effects on the flow. The results are obtained by solving the coupled nonlinear partial differential equations describing the conservation of mass, momentum and energy by a perturbation technique. The present study concludes that when local Grashof number and Reynolds number are of the same order, instability in the flow and heat transfer phenomena occur. Further, the fluid with low thermal diffusivity gives rise to constant velocity and temperature gradients.

Slip effects on MHD mixed convection stagnation point flow of a micropolar fluid towards a shrinking vertical sheet

In the present study, the effects of partial slip on steady boundary layer stagnation point flow of an electrically conducting micropolar fluid impinging normally towards a shrinking sheet in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field is investigated. A similarity transformation technique is adopted to obtain the self similar ordinary differential equations and then solved numerically using symbolic software MATHEMATICA 7.0. The features of the flow and heat transfer characteristics for different values of the governing parameters are analyzed and discussed through graphs and tables. Both cases of assisting and opposing flows are considered. The physical aspects of the problem are highlighted and discussed.

Heat and mass transfer by MHD mixed convection stagnation point flow toward a vertical plate embedded in a highly porous medium with radiation and internal heat generation

This paper examined the hydromagnetic mixed convection stagnation point flow towards a vertical plate embedded in a highly porous medium with radiation and internal heat generation. The governing boundary layer equations are formulated and transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations using a local similarity approach and then solved numerically by shooting iteration technique together with Runge-Kutta sixth-order integration scheme. A representative set of numerical results are displayed graphically and discussed quantitatively to show some interesting aspects of the pertinent parameters on the dimensionless axial velocity, temperature and the concentration profiles, local skin friction, local Nusselt number and local Sherwood number, the rate of heat and mass transfer. Good agreement is found between the numerical results of the present paper with the earlier published works under some special cases.

Numerical results are presented for the effects of mass transfer on steady two-dimensional laminar MHD mixed convection owing to the stagnation flow against a heated vertical semi-infinite permeable surface. These results are obtained by solving the coupled nonlinear partial differential equations describing the conservation of mass, momentum and energy by a perturbation technique. These results are presented to illustrate the influence of the Hartmann number, wall mass transfer coefficient, heat absorption coefficient, Prandtl number and the mixed convection or buoyancy parameter. Numerical results for the dimensionless velocity profiles, the temperature profiles, the local friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number are presented for various parameters. These effects of the different parameters on the velocity and temperature as well as the skin friction and wall heat transfer are presented graphically.
