Environmentally-friendly synthesis of platinum nanoparticles: phytochemical, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties of Cichorium intybus in different solvents

Cichorium intybus, a medicinal plant from the Asteraceae family, has long been utilized in traditional medicine across South and North Africa. This study explores the phytochemical profile, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities of C. intybus leaf extracts and develops a green synthesis method for platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) using these extracts. Extracts were prepared using five solvent systems: 80% methanol, 80% ethanol, 100% methanol, 100% ethanol, and de-ionized water. The 80% methanolic extract showed the highest yield (12.79 g/100 g DW), total phenolic content (93.24 mg GAE/g DW), and total flavonoid content (8.92 mg CE/g DW). Antioxidant activity assays revealed that the 80% methanolic extract had the highest DPPH radical scavenging activity and reducing power. Additionally, the green synthesis of PtNPs was achieved using C. intybus extracts, indicated by a color change and a surface plasmon resonance band at 295 nm in UV–visible spectroscopy. Optimal synthesis conditions were pH 9, 120 min reaction time, and 90 °C. UV–visible and FTIR spectroscopy confirmed the synthesis and stability of the PtNPs. These findings highlight the medicinal importance of Cichorium intybus and present a sustainable approach for synthesizing platinum nanoparticles, offering significant contributions to phytochemistry and nanotechnology.

Study of the Kinetics of Nucleation and Growth of Silver Nanoparticles: UV-Visible Spectroscopy vs. Atomic Force Microscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy

Silver nanoparticles have been the subjects of research interest because of their unique properties and extensive use in modern-day applications. A variety of preparation techniques have been reported for their synthesis but among them mostly recognized is a modified version of the Turkevich citrate method. In this study, we also chose this method of silver nanoparticle synthesis. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized first, traditionally with UV-Visible spectroscopy and then their sizes and shapes were identified employing Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). From the UV-Vis data were extracted the rate constants for the nucleation ($$k_1$$) and growth ($$k_2$$) of the silver nanoparticles, and then these constants were further used to fit those obtained from AFM and TEM. Using the values of $$k_1$$ and $$k_2$$ independently in the two experimental methods validated and supported the well-acknowledged two-step mechanism of slow nucleation and fast autocatalytic surface growth.

Synthesis and Application of Silver Nanoparticles for Caries Management: A Review

Silver nanoparticles have unique physical, chemical, and biological properties that make them attractive for medical applications. They have gained attention in dentistry for their potential use in caries management. This study reviews the different synthesis methods of silver nanoparticles and the application of them for caries management. Silver nanoparticles are tiny silver and are typically less than 100 nanometres in size. They have a high surface area-to-volume ratio, making them highly reactive and allowing them to interact with bacteria and other materials at the molecular level. Silver nanoparticles have low toxicity and biocompatibility. Researchers have employed various methods to synthesise silver nanoparticles, including chemical, physical, and biological methods. By controlling the process, silver nanoparticles have defined sizes, shapes, and surface properties for wide use. Silver nanoparticles exhibit strong antibacterial properties, capable of inhibiting a broad range of bacteria, including antibiotic-resistant strains. They inhibit the growth of cariogenic bacteria, such as Streptococcus mutans. They can disrupt bacterial cell membranes, interfere with enzyme activity, and inhibit bacterial replication. Silver nanoparticles can inhibit biofilm formation, reducing the risk of caries development. Additionally, nano silver fluoride prevents dental caries by promoting tooth remineralisation. They can interact with the tooth structure and enhance the deposition of hydroxyapatite, aiding in repairing early-stage carious lesions. Silver nanoparticles can also be incorporated into dental restorative materials such as composite resins and glass ionomer cements. The incorporation can enhance the material’s antibacterial properties, reducing the risk of secondary caries and improving the longevity of the restoration.

Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticle Using Parmotrema parmutatum Extract and its Application in Colorimetric Sensing and Photolytic Degradation of Organic Dye

Background: Silver nanoparticles possess distinctive characteristics, including chemical stability, high thermal and electrical conductivity, and linear optical properties, making them unique and fascinating. The rise of green synthesis methods for silver nanoparticles is garnering significant interest among researchers, surpassing traditional chemical and physical approaches due to the environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and convenient nature of synthesis. This approach stands as a viable alternative across various sectors, encompassing research, industry, and environmental safety initiatives. Method: Parmotrema permutatum was utilized in the synthesis of silver nanoparticles, followed by their characterization using ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. These nanoparticles are subsequiently employed for detecting methylene blue, formaldehyde, and hazardous mercury metal ions as well as photocatalytically degrading methylene blue. objective: Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticle Using Parmotrema parmutatum Extract and Its Application in Colorimetric Sensing Results: The silver nanoparticle synthesized was confirmed by a color change and the maximum peak of the SPR band was at 420 nm in the UV spectrum. The crystal has face-centered cubic (FCC) structure with an average size of 12.78 nm. The lichen extract contains polyphenolic groups which act as capping agents. synthesized silver nanoparticles were used to detect formaldehyde and hazardous Hg2+ ions separately. A color change was observed. The detection limit of Hg2+ was 600 μL. Likewise, silver nanoparticles were used to degrade methylene blue. The blue color of methylene blue disappeared. The efficiency of silver nanoparticles was found to be 72% in 4 hours and 87.82% in 24 hours. Conclusion: Parmotrema permutatum has the potential to reduce Ag2+ to Ago and acts as a capping and stabilizing agent, it can be used to biosynthesize silver nanoparticles and can detect formaldehyde, and Hg2+ ions, in addition, it also degrades methylene blue photolytically.

Construction and characterization of selenium nanoparticles stabilized by cranberry polyphenols with protective effects on erythrocyte hemolysis

Cranberry polyphenols (CPs) were obtained via ultrasound-assisted extraction and purification on a macroporous resin X-5 column. A green synthesis method of selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) using CPs as reducing agents was then developed. Two types of SeNPs (CP-SeNPs1 and CP-SeNPs2) were successfully constructed and characterized. The spherical particles were well-dispersed on the polyphenol templates and the addition of the polyphenols reduced the aggregation of the nanoparticles. Both CP-SeNPs1 and CP-SeNPs2, with average particle sizes of 85.62 ± 0.11 nm and 107.97 ± 0.12 nm, respectively, demonstrated radical-scavenging activities and protective effects on erythrocyte hemolysis. CP-SeNPs2 possessed more significant antioxidant activity, as evidenced by its higher radical-scavenging rate and greater enhancement of the erythrocyte antioxidant state compared to those of CP-SeNPs1. This study provides a new application of CPs and confirms their great potential in stabilizing SeNPs.

Development of modular polymeric nanoparticles for drug delivery using amine reactive chemistry.

Curcumin has been explored for its anti-cancer potential, but is severely limited by its hydrophobicity and sensitivity to light and water. In this study, poly (lactic-co-glycolic) acid (PLGA) nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized to encapsulate curcumin via single emulsion method to improve curcumin stability and bioavailability. The PLGA NPs were coated with oligomeric chitosan (COS) and RGD peptide (a peptide consisting of Arg-Gly-Asp) using amine-reactive chemistry (NHS and EDC). Both COS and RGD had been previously shown to accumulate and target many different types of cancer cells. NPs were characterised based on size distribution, zeta potential, and binding efficiency of RGD peptide. They were also evaluated on encapsulation efficiency, and stability, of curcumin within the NPs. OVCAR-3 cancer cells were treated with COS and RGD-coated PLGA NPs loaded with Coumarin-6 dye for fluorescent imaging of cell uptake. They were also treated with curcumin-loaded NPs to determine cytotoxicity and effectiveness of delivery. The NPs exhibited size distribution and zeta potential within expected values, though binding efficiency of RGD was low. Curcumin-loaded NPs showed significant increase in cytotoxicity over free (unencapsulated) curcumin, and void (empty) NPs, suggesting successful delivery of curcumin as an anti-cancer agent; the performance of COS and RGD coated NPs over bare PLGA NPs was inconclusive, however, optimization will be required to improve formulation during the coating steps. This method of NP synthesis serves as proof of concept for a modular solution to the development of various coated polymeric NPs for other drugs or applications.

Engineering of LiTaO3 Nanoparticles by Flame Spray Pyrolysis: Understanding In Situ Li-Incorporation into the Ta2O5 Lattice.

Lithium tantalate (LiTaO3) perovskite finds wide use in pyroelectric detectors, optical waveguides and piezoelectric transducers, stemming from its good mechanical and chemical stability and optical transparency. Herein, we present a method for synthesis of LiTaO3 nanoparticles using a scalable Flame Spray Pyrolysis (FSP) technology, that allows the formation of LiTaO3 nanomaterials in a single step. Raman, XRD and TEM studies allow for comprehension of the formation mechanism of the LiTaO3 nanophases, with particular emphasis on the penetration of Li atoms into the Ta-oxide lattice. We show that, control of the High-Temperature Particle Residence Time (HTPRT) in the FSP flame, is the key-parameter that allows successful penetration of the -otherwise amorphous- Li phase into the Ta2O5 nanophase. In this way, via control of the HTPRT in the FSP process, we synthesized a series of nanostructured LiTaO3 particles of varying phase composition from {amorphous Li/Ta2O5/LiTaO3} to {pure LiTaO3, 15-25 nm}. Finally, the photophysical activity of the FSP-made LiTaO3 was validated for photocatalytic H2 production from H2O. These data are discussed in conjunction with the role of the phase composition of the LiTaO3 nanoparticles. More generally, the present work allows a better understanding of the mechanism of ABO3 perovskite formation that requires the incorporation of two cations, A and B, into the nanolattice.

Green synthesis of iron nanoparticles (Fe(NPs)) using plant extract from Eucalyptus grandis: characterization and determination of the catalytic potential for reduction of 4-nitrophenol

This study assessed a green synthesis method for iron nanoparticles (Fe(NPs)), using Eucalyptus grandis leaf extract, to reduce waste generation and diminish the use of conventional chemical inputs, such as Sodium Borohydride (NaBH4), without significant losses in catalytic activity. Various volumetric ratios of plant extract and NaBH4 were tested to understand how this variation would affect the morphological, structural, and catalytic power of the material. In the conducted analyses, a reduction in the crystallinity of Fe(NPs) was observed for proportions above 25% of the extract. However, the particle size remained stable among different syntheses, with iron ions showing improved dispersion for proportions of 40% and 50% of the extract. Regarding stabilization, characteristic bands of aromatic compounds, alcohols, ethers and carboxylic acids were identified, indicating the extract's involvement in coating the metallic cores. To assess the catalytic performance, studies were conducted on the catalytic reduction of the contaminant 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol, using Fe(NPs) as catalysts. The results revealed conversions above 80% for Fe(NPs) synthesized with volumetric proportions of up to 40% of the plant extract, suggesting that substituting the chemical agent did not significantly affect the catalytic activity of the biocatalyst. Finally, ecotoxicological tests performed with Lemna minor and artemia salina demonstrated a significant reduction in the toxicity of the contaminant 4-nitrophenol, as well as the biocompatibility of the obtained Fe(NPs). Advanced green capture of microplastics from different water matrices by surface-modified magnetic nanoparticles

The extensive production and application of plastic in recent decades has resulted in the presence of microplastics (MPs) in different water bodies. Considered as contaminants of emerging concern (CECs), MPs are accessible to a wide range of organisms and can act as vectors for the transport of other persistent organic pollutants. The existing technologies to remove microplastics from wastewaters and prevent their intrusion in nature, still present several limitations, resulting in an urgent need to develop novel, fast, cost-effective and greener alternatives. In this work, the magnetophoretic capture of MPs by their assembly with magnetic nanoparticles through either electrostatic interactions or molecular forces is investigated. For the experimental assessment, magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrothermal coprecipitation and solvothermal decomposition methods, while polyethylene (PE) microspheres were selected as model microplastic pollutants. As a noteworthy novelty, thermal decomposition and coprecipitation particles were functionalized with amino groups and sodium alginate (SA), respectively, resulting in a modification of their surface properties and enhanced electrostatic or molecular interactions with MPs. After preliminary experiments, a concentration of 1.3 g L-1 and a contact time of 20 min between magnetic nanoparticles and MPs, were selected as operating conditions to assess the influence of the functional groups on the capture performance. The influence of other variables in the process was also evaluated, including the magnetic nanoparticles synthesis method, the pH of the medium, varied in the range 4–8, and the water constituents that may be present in water bodies. Results demonstrated that the presence of different types of polar groups on the surface of the magnetic nanoparticles make them interact towards MPs through electrostatic attraction or molecular forces, considerably enhancing the capture performance of bare magnetic nanoparticles. This work represents a step forward in the development of new and reliable techniques for the environmentally friendly capture of microplastics from polluted waters.

Silver Nanoparticle Biosynthesis using Distimake vitifolius Extract for Enhancement of Antibacterial and Antioxidant Activity

ABSTRACT. The biological method for silver nanoparticle synthesis emphasizes green synthesis, which is faster, environmentally safer, facile, energy-efficient, and cost-effective. It provides good alternatives to physical and chemical methods. In this research, we have synthesized silver nanoparticles using D. vitifolius ethanolic extract. The 38 natural compounds of flavonoid, phenolic or polyphenol compositions have been determined by LC-MS/MS-QTOF which is carried out using UNIFI software equipped with a mass spectrum library of active substances from natural ingredients from the Waters database. Silver nanoparticle (Dv-AgNP) was characterized by using TEM and SEM where the average diameter of nanoparticle was seen <100 nm and confirmed by PSA analysis that the Z-average is 62.73 ± 0.71 nm. EDS spectrum confirmed the silver element as a major element of the particles. PI value of Dv-AgNP is 0.557, while the zeta potential is -17.37 ± 1.53 mV. Dv-AgNP can inhibit the growth of P. aeruginosa (amoxicillin resistant) with an inhibition zone of 15.83 ± 2.36 mm, and K. pneumoniae with an inhibition zone is 10.03 ± 0.55 mm. These are moderate inhibitory activities. The antioxidant result of the Dv-AgNP suspension solution shows that the IC50 is 0.58 mM. The IC50 of the crude extract is 752 ppm and is categorized as very weak antioxidant activity. Keywords: Antibacterial; D. vitifolius; silver nanoparticle.

Enhancing the antimicrobial activity of silver nanoparticles against pathogenic bacteria by using Pelargonium sidoides DC extract in microwave assisted green synthesis.

This study presents an optimized microwave-assisted method for the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using a root extract obtained from Pelargonium sidoides DC. The influence of temperature, reagent concentration, and irradiation time was systematically investigated to enhance synthesis yield. Characterization techniques including XRD, UV-vis, FTIR, XPS, and zetametry were employed to confirm the successful formation of nanoparticles with a metallic silver core (∼17 nm) functionalized with organic molecules derived from the plant extract. The cytotoxicity of AgNPs was assessed using a cell viability assay, while the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of nanoformulation against pathogenic bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and the carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (KPC), was determined using the Broth microdilution method. The nanoformulation synthesized with P. sidoides extract exhibited a dose-dependent response, demonstrating superior antimicrobial efficacy compared to the pure plant extract in most cases. The MIC values ranged from 0.85 to 17.1 μg mL-1, with particularly strong performance against the drug resistant KPC strain. The enhanced antimicrobial effect is attributed to the synergistic action of the metallic silver core and phytochemicals from P. sidoides on the surface of nanoparticles, which also contribute to notable colloidal stability of AgNPs at physiological pH levels.

METHODS OF BIOSYNTHESIS OF METAL NANOPARTICLES, PROSPECTS OF APPLICATION IN CROP PRODUCTION

The main objective of this review is to consider the environmentally ecological synthesis of nanoparticles with the help o f plants and the importance of this approach, application areas. It can be said that metal nanoparticles take place in all spheres of human life, such as food security, medicine, veterinary medicine, agriculture, environmental protection, energy, electronics. Currently, the development of environmentally friendly methods for the chemical and biological synthesis of metal nanoparticles is a pressing issue attracting significant attention from scientists worldwide. In the biological synthesis of metals, various living organisms, fungi, algae, and plants can be used. And the importance of using these nanoparticles in crop production is still being actively studied. In our work, we reviewed articles by scientists from a number of countries who have widely used this method in various industries. The biocompatibility and stability of metal nanoparticles produced through "green synthesis" have been demonstrated in numerous studies. A thorough literature review also examined the plants used in this synthesis process and the various applications of the synthesized metal nanoparticles based on their properties. Tһe topic of this revew is one of the relevant for Kazakhstan, therefore, the prospects of using metal nanoparticles in agricultural crop production and as growth stimulants and in plant protection are being considered in the country.

Progress in the Sustainable Development of Biobased (Nano)materials for Application in Water Treatment Technologies.

Water pollution remains a widespread problem, affecting the health and wellbeing of people around the globe. While current advancements in wastewater treatment and desalination show promise, there are still challenges that need to be overcome to make these technologies commercially viable. Nanotechnology plays a pivotal role in water purification and desalination processes today. However, the release of nanoparticles (NPs) into the environment without proper safeguards can lead to both physical and chemical toxicity. Moreover, many methods of NP synthesis are expensive and not environmentally sustainable. The utilization of biomass as a source for the production of NPs has the potential to mitigate issues pertaining to cost, sustainability, and pollution. The utilization of biobased nanomaterials (bio-NMs) sourced from biomass has garnered attention in the field of water purification due to their cost-effectiveness, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. Several research studies have been conducted to efficiently produce NPs (both inorganic and organic) from biomass for applications in wastewater treatment. Biosynthesized materials such as zinc oxide NPs, phytogenic magnetic NPs, biopolymer-coated metal NPs, cellulose nanocrystals, and silver NPs, among others, have demonstrated efficacy in enhancing the process of water purification. The utilization of environmentally friendly NPs presents a viable option for enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of water pollution eradication. The present review delves into the topic of biomass, its origins, and the methods by which it can be transformed into NPs utilizing an environmentally sustainable approach. The present study will examine the utilization of greener NPs in contemporary wastewater and desalination technologies.

Therapeutic potential of silver nanoparticles from Helianthemum lippii extract for mitigating cadmium-induced hepatotoxicity: liver function parameters, oxidative stress, and histopathology in wistar rats.

Introduction: This study explores the therapeutic potential of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) synthesized using a Helianthemum lippii extract in mitigating cadmium-induced hepatotoxicity in Wistar rats. Given the increasing environmental and health concerns associated with cadmium exposure, novel and eco-friendly therapeutic strategies are essential. Methods: Ag NPs were characterized using X-ray diffraction, UV-Vis spectrometry, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy with scanning electron microscopy, confirming their formation with a cubic crystal structure and particle sizes ranging from 4.81 to 12.84nm. A sub-acute toxicity study of Ag NPs (2mg/kg and 10mg/kg) was conducted, showing no significant difference compared to untreated control rats (n = 3 animals/group). Subsequently, adult Wistar rats (n = 5/group) were divided into a control group and three experimental groups: Ag NPs alone, exposure to 50mg/kg CdCl2 in drinking water for 35days, and CdCl2 exposure followed by 0.1mg/kg/day Ag NPs intraperitoneally for 15days. Results: In the CdCl2-exposed group, there was a significant decrease in body weight and increases in alanine and aspartate transaminase levels (p < 0.05 vs. control), indicating hepatotoxicity. Additionally, antioxidant defenses were decreased, and malondialdehyde levels were elevated. Liver histology revealed portal fibrosis, inflammation, necrosis, sinusoid and hepatic vein dilation, and cytoplasmic vacuolations. Treatment with Ag NPs post-CdCl2 exposure mitigated several adverse effects on liver function and architecture and improved body weight. Discussion: This study demonstrates the efficacy of Ag NPs synthesized via a green method in reducing cadmium-induced liver damage. These findings support the potential of Ag NPs in therapeutic applications and highlight the importance of sustainable and eco-friendly nanoparticle synthesis methods. By addressing both toxicity concerns and therapeutic efficacy, this research aligns with the growing emphasis on environmentally conscious practices in scientific research and healthcare.

Green Synthesis: An Alternative Sustainable Route for Nanotechology

With the advancements and technological innovation in the past few decades, there has been an exponential increase in the nanotechnology industry. It has come to become one of the most exciting forefront fields in the 21st century. Nanotechnology is the science that deals with particulate matter at nanoscale (1-100 nm). Nanomaterials at nanoscale tend to exhibit unique properties than their bulk counterparts. The rising demand for nanoparticles and nano based products also brings in huge concerns, as the chemical and physical methods for synthesis of nanoparticles require a lot of investment and also involve toxic agents, which result it some serious after effects hazardous to both environment and the living entities. This is when green chemistry comes into the picture, green synthesis approach was found to counter the problems posed by the previous synthesis methods. The mechanism involved in green synthesis, factors affecting the synthesis and the popular techniques used in characterization of the synthesized nanoparticles are discussed in this review paper. Green synthesis has the potential to be an effective approach in minimizing the risks encountered in the traditional methods of synthesis, yet the field is new and more is to be explored and continuous research with follow up is required to adopt green synthesis at a commercial level.

Preparation and Characterization of Nickel Ferrite (NiFe&lt;sub&gt;2&lt;/sub&gt;O&lt;sub&gt;4&lt;/sub&gt;) Nanoparticles by Surfactant-Free Electrochemical Method

Nickel ferrite (NiFe2O4) Nanoparticles have been synthesized by a simple surfactant-free electrochemical method at room temperature using iron plates as the cathode and anode electrode. nickel sulfate hexahydrate solution used as the electrolyte has a concentration of 0.04 M and pH 10. The voltage applied varied from 6, 9, and 12 V. We found that voltage and hydroxyl ions (OH-) presence have an important role in the formation of nickel ferrite nanoparticles. Particle size can be controlled by voltage. Nickel ferrite nanoparticles were produced in the form of gray powder and exhibited ferromagnetic properties. Material produced exhibits spinel oxide characteristics that confirms nickel ferrite presence. Nickel ferrite produced are nearly spherical with narrow size distribution having the size that can be classified as nanomaterial. Good electrochemical performance is legitimately observed for NiFe2O4 prepared in this work. This simple method is promising as a facile synthesis method for nickel ferrite nanoparticles.

Harnessing barley grains for green synthesis of gold and silver nanoparticles with antibacterial potential

The continuous evolution and significance of green resources-based nanomaterials have spurred the exploration of sustainable sources for nanoparticle production. Green synthesis routes offer eco-friendly methodologies, ensuring nanoparticle stability and monodispersity, enhancing their efficiency for various applications. Notably, the thick biological corona layer surrounding nanoparticles (NPs) synthesized through green routes contributes to their unique properties. Consequently, there has been a surge in the development of NPs synthesis methods utilizing medicinal plants and diverse agricultural and waste resources. This study highlights the sustainable potential of barley grains for the synthesis of gold nanoparticles (Barley-AuNPs) and silver nanoparticles (Barley-AgNPs) as an environmentally friendly alternative, followed by NPs characterizations and their application against pathogenic bacteria: Escherichia coli UTI 89 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1. The rapid synthesis of Barley-AuNPs within 20 min and Barley-AgNPs within 30 min at 90 °C underscores the efficiency of barley as a green precursor. Characterization through advanced techniques, including SEM, TEM, EDS, AFM, DLS, FT-IR, MALDI-TOF, and sp-ICPMS, reveals the 20–25 nm size for Barley-AuNPs, while Barley-AgNPs demonstrate 2–10 nm size with spherical monodispersity. A notable contribution lies in the stability of these NPs over extended periods, attributed to a thick biological corona layer. This corona layer, which enhances stability, also influences the antimicrobial activity of Barley-AgNPs, presenting an intriguing trade-off. Myco-generated and analysis of magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles using Aspergillus elegans extract: A comparative evaluation with a traditional chemical approach

In the past few years, nanotechnology has emerged as one of the most interesting and cutting-edge research areas across all disciplines. Nanotechnology allows progress in all science fields to make novel materials and industry-different devices. Generally, nanoparticle synthesis methods are chemical, physical, and biological. The chemical and physical techniques use potentially harmful compounds, and the expense of these processes renders them unsuitable for nanoparticle synthesis. In light of this, it needs development strategies that are sustainable, economical, and eco-friendly viable. Through, biosynthesis, nanoparticles can overcome these disadvantages. One of the biological strategies is the myco-synthesis method, which connects the fields of mycology and nanotechnology. In this study, magnetite (Fe3O4) NPs have been synthesized using a myco-synthesis method by selecting Aspergillus elegans as a fungal species. Two extracts were used, growth medium and an aqueous extract. A comparative analysis between nanoparticles synthesized through myco-synthesis and those produced using conventional chemical methods has been conducted to substantiate the significance of the biological approach. The results of this study unequivocally establish that myco-synthesized nanoparticles exhibit superior and enhanced characteristics compared to those synthesized through chemical means, as ascertained through a comprehensive array of characterization techniques employed throughout the investigation. This contrast is observable in terms of the aggregation state, the existence of capping and stabilizing agents enveloping the nanoparticles, their magnetic and thermal attributes, and the enduring stability of these nanoparticles. These results highlight the significant promise of employing phytochemicals extracted from Aspergillus elegans as a highly suitable option for the biofabrication of Fe3O4 nanoparticles.

Continuous synthesis of drug particles via spray drying of emulsions obtained by mechanical emulsification and ouzo effect

In the pharmaceutical field, nanoparticle formulation is an effective approach to improve the solubility of poorly water-soluble drugs. Spray drying is used for the synthesis of fine drug particles. The particle size obtained by spray drying generally depends on the size of the sprayed droplet. In this study, an emulsion spray drying method is proposed as a novel method for nanoparticle synthesis. Oil-in-water (O/W) nanoemulsions containing oil-soluble drugs were prepared. Spraying O/W emulsions could produce fine particles with the size of 122 nm. The particles obtained by emulsion spray drying were smaller than those obtained by spray drying without an emulsion. Furthermore, an Ouzo emulsion, which is a self-emulsification method, was investigated to improve the particle yield. The particles obtained by spray drying of the Ouzo emulsion had the size of 0.50 μm, which was smaller than those obtained without the Ouzo emulsion. Moreover, in-vitro dissolution tests were performed to evaluate the solubility of the obtained particles as well as the unprocessed drug powder. The particles obtained via spray drying of the Ouzo emulsions showed the highest dissolution rate. In summary, spray drying of O/W and Ouzo emulsions resulted in the production of fine drug particles.
