IJCM_410A: Prevalence of metabolic syndrome in rural area of District Kangra of Himachal Pradesh

Background: Metabolic risk factors and abnormalities such as obesity and hypertension are rapidly rising in Indian population following widespread change in lifestyle and dietary habits. A study was conducted to estimate the current situation of metabolic syndrome in rural area of Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Objective: To find out the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in adult population in identified rural area of Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Methodology: A community based cross-sectional study was conducted among 177 individuals. The relevant anthropometric measurements and laboratory investigations were performed. NCEP ATP III (National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III) guidelines were used to diagnose the metabolic syndrome. Results: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in our study was found to be 42.4% (34.99%-50.01%) and was higher among female population (71.8%). The proportion of metabolic syndrome was higher among older age group (66.7%) and only 2.7% in those who were less than 30 years of age. Conclusion: The present study documented 42.4% prevalence of metabolic syndrome in rural population, with more prevalence among females. The data was skewed, with more proportion of females in the study. Consequent upon this, development of health policies and protocols for the screening of metabolic syndrome would aid in early diagnosis and timely management of non-communicable disease.

Correlation of Prediabetes and Metabolic Syndrome in Rural Population of Dinanath

Aims: The prediabetes in the age group of 20-35 with minor ailments were found in patients attending OPD of medical department in pak red crescent medical college Dina nath. the association of prediabetes with other risk factors of metabolic syndrome were found. Materials and Methods: Forty two patients including 24 males and 18 females were selected with minor ailments and the other associated risk factors of metabolic syndrome were investigated. Results: Were framed in tables the prevalence of metabolic syndrome was found in 78% of cases with prediabetes as compared to 22% without this syndrome. Conclusion: The patients with prediabetes should be evaluated for other risk factors of metabolic syndrome so as to avoid the serious complications of the other risk factors. Epidemiologic study of type 2 diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome in rural population of kurdistan province, Iran, in 2011–2017

BackgroundMetabolic syndrome is a serious health problem and is associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to determine the status of these two diseases in the rural population of Kurdistan province, west of Iran. MethodsIn this cross sectional study, 10,496 villagers of Kurdistan province during the period from March 2011 to February 2017 were selected through randomized systematic sampling. Required information was collected using pre-made check list and the examinations were performed. The data were analyzed with SPSS v22 software using chi-square test. ResultsIn the present study, the mean age of the population was 46.0 ± 14.13 y/o and 49.2% people were male and 50.8% were female. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 22.1% and for type 2 diabetes the prevalence was 19.6%. Hypertension was significantly higher in women (p < 0.001). There was a significant difference between the two sexes in terms of waist circumference, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. There was a significant difference between age groups with hypertension, waist circumference, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome (p < 0.001) and a significant relationship between educational status with hypertention, waist circumference, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome (p < 0.001). The results also showed that the relationships between age group and gender with BMI was significant (P < 0.001). ConclusionThe prevalence of diabetes in the rural population of Kordestan province is moderate but it has a high prevalence in metabolic syndrome. Educational and healthcare interventions seem to be necessary to reduce these prevalences, especially among women and in older ages.

Metabolic Syndrome in Rural Population of Western UP (India) A Prospective Study

To evaluate prevalence of metabolic syndrome (Mets) in rural population of Western UP (India)- A prospective Study was carried out w.e.f. Dec 2008 to June 2013. Total 5400 adults of 25 to 65 years age group from 3000 families were enrolled. Anthropometric measurement, blood pressure, plasma lipids, fasting glucose and a questionnaire based interview were obtained from each participant. Three different working definitions for Mets including U.S. National Cholesterol Education Program's Adult Treatment Panel III, a modified adult treatment panel III that adopts the World Health Organization's criterion for central obesity in Asian Population and one recently proposed by the International Diabetes Federation were used in the study.
