Clinical Evaluation of a Mesotherapy Formulation for Weakened and Sparse Eyebrows With Assessment of Some Psychological and Social Aspects

ABSTRACT Background Eyebrows (EBs) are essential to facial symmetry, expression, and self‐image. EB thinning can negatively impact psychological and social well‐being. Mesotherapy (MT) has gained traction as a minimally invasive treatment for hair restoration, yet its impact on eyebrow regeneration and psychosocial outcomes remains under‐investigated. Aims This study assesses the psychological and clinical effects of eyebrow mesotherapy (EB MT) using a growth factor‐based serum in individuals with sparse or weakened eyebrows. Patients/Methods Thirty‐two participants (ages 18–65) underwent three sessions of EB MT at two—to 4‐week intervals. Treatment utilized “point by point” and “nappage” injection techniques with growth factor‐based serum (GF Advanced Hair Complex+, AQ Skin Solutions Inc., Irvine, CA, USA). This cosmetic‐grade formulation contains human fibroblast–conditioned media rich in growth factors and is manufactured under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards and FDA cosmetic compliance. The product was commercially purchased for clinical use, with no manufacturer involvement in study design or data interpretation.” Participants outcomes were evaluated using structured questionnaires measuring social engagement, quality of life, confidence, and mood. In addition, eyebrow width, length, and density were objectively measured across sessions. Statistical analysis was performed using Python (vX.X), applying non‐parametric tests. Results EB MT was associated with significant improvements participants' psychosocial scores, with mean values of 7.81 for social engagement, 6.71 for quality of life, 6.09 for confidence, and 6.13 for mood. Due to the ordinal nature of our outcome data (0–10 scales), we employed non‐parametric tests. A Spearman's rank correlation revealed a strong association between social engagement and quality of life ( ρ = 0.667, p < 0.001), a moderate association between confidence and mood ( ρ = 0.471, p < 0.01), and a weak, nonsignificant association between social engagement and confidence ( ρ = 0.152, p > 0.05). Furthermore, the Mann–Whitney U test confirmed that social engagement scores were significantly higher than confidence scores ( U = 916.0, p < 0.001). Objective measurements showed increased eyebrow width (+11 µm), length (+3.1 mm), and density (+8 hairs/cm²), all statistically significant ( p < 0.05). The treatment was well tolerated and showed consistent clinical improvement. Conclusions EB MT using growth factor‐based serum appears to be associated with clinical and psychological improvement in eyebrow restoration. It may enhance facial aesthetics and be associated with improved social engagement and emotional well‐being. These findings support broader use of EB MT in aesthetic dermatology.

Comparison of the Efficacy of Intralesional Ascorbic Acid Mesotherapy and Intralesional Tranexamic Acid in Treating Melasma in the Skin of Colour Population

Background: Melasma remains an important dermatological ailment affecting diverse types of skin across the world. Various treatment modalities are currently employed to control melasma; however, the ideal treatment remains elusive. Comparative data regarding the efficacy of intralesional tranexamic acid (TA) and ascorbic acid (AA) mesotherapy (MT) in the treatment of melasma in South Asian skin is sparse. The objective of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy and safety of intralesional tranexamic acid versus ascorbic acid mesotherapy for treating melasma in patients with skin of colour (SOC).Methodology: This quasi-experimental study was conducted at the Dermatology Department of Combined Military Hospital Kohat, a tertiary healthcare setup in Pakistan, between April 16, 2024, and October 16, 2024. A total of 110 volunteer patients with melasma, aged 18 to 55 years, were included. Individuals with a history of other dermatological conditions such as cutaneous infections, discoid lupus erythematosus, positive pregnancy tests, lactation, oral contraceptive use, or anaemia were excluded from the research. The patients were randomly assigned to two groups. In Group A, 55 patients were included and administered fortnightly sessions of intralesional TA MT, while in Group B, 55 patients received fortnightly sessions of intralesional AA MT. Both groups were also prescribed a daily Kligman regimen-based cream at night, along with sun protection measures in the form of broad-spectrum SPF 60 creams. Final evaluation was done at the end of 12 weeks, during which the Melasma Area Severity Index (MASI) was calculated and compared. The side effect profiles in both groups were also recorded.Results: Of the total 110 patients, around two-thirds (n = 77, 70%) were found to have mixed-type melasma, while the rest (n = 33, 30%) presented with dermal melasma. The average age of patients in Group A was 34.4 ± 5.1 years, while in Group B, it was 32.8 ± 4.5 years. Around two-thirds (n = 79, 71.8%) of the cohort were in the age bracket of 18-35 years. The efficacy of intralesional TA MT (Group A) was found to be higher than that of intralesional AA MT (Group B) when modified MASI scores were compared. For TA, the baseline MASI ranged from 6.4 to 8.1 (mean 7.2), and end-treatment MASI ranged from 3.3 to 5.6 (mean 4.45), showing a clear reduction of 2.75 in the mean MASI score. For AA, the baseline MASI ranged from 6.3 to 7.9 (mean 7.1), and end-treatment MASI ranged from 5.8 to 6.7 (mean 6.25), showing a clear reduction of 0.85 in the mean MASI score. The difference was statistically significant, with a p-value of 0.001. Intralesional TA MT was also associated with a lower incidence of irritation compared to intralesional AA MT, although this difference was not statistically significant.Conclusion: The use of intralesional TA MT in melasma in South Asian skin appears more effective in clearing melasma than intralesional AA MT. It also remains a cheaper and safer treatment option for the control of melasma. Further large-scale randomised controlled studies are warranted to ascertain these findings.

Assessment of Clients' Perceptions and Satisfaction With Eyebrow Mesotherapy Treatment.

Eyebrows significantly influence facial aesthetics and are often linked to attractiveness and personality. Eyebrow loss and alopecia impact physical and psychological well-being. Several treatments, including mesotherapy (MT), aim to enhance eyebrow density and quality. Despite the availability of MT for hair growth, its application in eyebrow revitalization is less explored. This study evaluates clients' perceptions and satisfaction with eyebrow MT (EB MT) using AQ skin solutions' growth factor-based MT cocktail serum. Thirty-two healthy women (ages 21-55) with thin or weakened eyebrows underwent three EB MT sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart. Exclusion criteria included chronic diseases, allergies, and conditions like pregnancy. Each session lasted about 40 min, and "point by point" and "nappage" techniques were employed. Satisfaction and pain levels were assessed through a Numeric Rating Scale for Satisfaction (NRSS) and Pain scale, while photographic analysis and the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) evaluated effectiveness. The average GAIS score was 8.28, while the NRSS satisfaction score was 8.06. Pain levels were moderately low, averaging 4.0. A high majority (90.6%) were satisfied and willing to continue treatment, with 100% recommending EB MT to others. Notable improvements in overall appearance were reported by participants. EB MT demonstrated high satisfaction and low pain levels, with significant improvements in eyebrow density and appearance. This treatment is a practical option for eyebrow enhancement with a strong safety profile, motivating further clinical application.

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy versus musculoskeletal mesotherapy for Achilles tendinopathy in athlete

BackgroundAchilles tendinopathy (AT) is considered the commonest tendon pathology, occurring mainly in athletes. Different conservative treatment options have been introduced but with short-term effects; however, extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) and mesotherapy (MT) injections were claimed to provide longer effects and could be used in cases failure of response to conservative treatments.The objective of our prospective 12-week study was to compare the effect of ESWT and MT on chronic Achilles tendinopathy in athletes by both clinical and ultrasonographical assessment.ResultsForty patients with chronic AT diagnosed clinically and with high-resolution ultrasound (US) randomly allocated in two groups first received weekly ESWT session, and the other group underwent weekly MT sessions for 4 consecutive weeks. Both groups improved during the treatment and follow-up period. The mean visual analogue score (VAS) decreased in both the ESWT group and the MT group. Mean American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) hindfoot score and VAS scores were not significantly different between ESWT and MT groups at the 4th and the 12th week of follow-up. However, US assessment significantly improved after 12 weeks in the ESWT group (as regards tendon thickness, calcifications, and Doppler signal), and for the mesotherapy group, there was the only improvement of tendon thickness.ConclusionESWT showed improvement of pain and inflammation and calcifications of AT than MT injections, which was documented by US improved findings at week 12 follow up.

Objective To study the effect of dimethylaminoethano (DMAE) and compound amino acid injection (AA) by mesotherapy on collagen Ⅰ and collagen Ⅲ mRNA expression levels of D-galactose-induced chemical skin aging rats.Methods 80 rats were randomly divided into individual experimental group.At 18 days after D-gal induction,rats of aging treatment groups were treated with intradermal microinjection of 0.2% DMAE+AA,0.1% DMAE+AA,0.2% DMAE,0.1% DMAE,AA,and saline,respectively,once a week for 4 weeks.At 42 days after treatment,the skin wounds were harvested.HE,PCNA,hydroxyproline and collagen Ⅰ and collagen Ⅲ mRNA expression levels of every group skins were detected.Results Dermal thickness,hydroxyproline content and collagen type Ⅰ and Ⅲ mRNA expression levels of 0.1% DMAE+ AA and 0.2 % DMAE+ AA groups were significantly improved (P<0.05),but PCNA expression of sham control group was significantly higher than all of aging groups (P>0.05).Conclusions Local co-injection of DMAE and compound AA directly into targeted tissue under mesotherapy has marked anti-aging effects on D-galactose induced skin aging model of rat by increasing the dermal thickness,collagen content and acceleration of collagen synthesis. The influence of procaine electrophoresis and mesotherapy on the characteristics of biological age

The assessment of the biological age is needed to estimate the level of health and the efficacy of measures being undertaken to slow down the ageing processes and prolong the active life of the patients. Earlier studies have demonstrated the improvement of both physical health and psychic status of the elderly patients following intravenous administration of procaine. The objective of the present work was to evaluate effect of various methods of administration of a 2% procaine solution on the biological age. A total of 95 subjects at the age between 30 and 75 years were enrolled in the study. The procaine solutions were applied to the collar region. The patients of group 1 were treated with 2% procaine electrophoresis, those in group 2 with procaine galvanization with the same parameters. Mesotherapy using the 2% procaine solution was given to the patients of group 3. It was substituted by placebo (0.9% physiological solution) in the patients of group 4 (controls). The study revealed the most significant decrease of the biological age (calculated as described by L. M. Belozerova) in the patients treated with procaine electrophoresis (91% improvement). The mesotherapeutic administration of procaine also produced the beneficial effect (59% improvement). Neither procaine galvanization nor placebo mesotherapy caused any significant change of the variables characterizing the biological age.

Effect of the mesotherapy with the use of Ekyced P.I. cream on age-related changes in skin

Sixty women (average age: 44.8+1,1) underwent examination with the use of Skin XP Pro software, laser Doppler flowmetry and CAH psychological test for assessment of the effect of mesotherapy (MT) with the use of Ekyced P.I. cream on age-related changes in facial skin. A course of MT with the use of Ekyced P.I. cream, which was applied prior to and after mesotherapy, as well as Ubichinon Compositum and Placenta Compositum resulted in an evident reduction in the intensity of wrinkles, increase in the level of elasticity and hydration as well as normalization of the level of skin oiliness. The use of Ekyced P.I. regenerating cream resulted in a considerable reduction in the frequency of development of MT side effects such as edemas, erythema, purpura. Mesotherapy with the use of Ekyced P.I. in women older than 45 was accompanied by a more evident increase in the level of skin hydration and elasticity than in women younger than 45.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate effects of mesotherapy (MT) and electrostimulation (EMS) on age-related changes of the facial skin. The secondary objective was to identify factors influencing the therapeutic efficiency of these methods. The study included 60 women aged from 30 to 59 years. All the patients were examined prior to the onset and in the end (after one month) of the corrective treatment. Facial skin conditions were assessed using a Skin XP Pro system and skin microcirculation by laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF). The psychological status of the patients was evaluated with the help of the Well-being-Activity-Mood test. After the primary examination, the participants of the study were randomly divided into two groups. Group 1 (n=30) included women treated by MT and EMS, the control group 2 (n=30) was comprised of the patients who did not receive the above treatment. The results of the study indicate that combine MT + EMS therapy significantly improves the state of facial skin, decreases its pigmentation, reduces the number and depth of wrinkles, enhances skin moisture, improves its elasticity and decreases porosity. Dynamics of these parameters and overall effect of correction were shown to correlate with the severity of skin changes before the treatment. Age-related changes in the facial skin were especially well-apparent in women with the lowered activity level and impaired mood. Characteristics of mood in the course of therapeutic correction correlated with dynamics of skin smoothness and elasticity.
