Examining recovery and mental health service satisfaction among young immigrant Muslim women with mental distress in Quebec

ObjectiveThe overall aim of this study was to understand the experiences and perspectives of immigrant Muslim women in Quebec living with mental illness, who have recently used formal mental health services such as an accredited therapist, psychologist, or clinician. Specific objectives included (i) eliciting and examining their self-identified barriers and facilitators to recovery; (ii) exploring links between religion and mental health; and (iii) self-reported satisfaction with mental health services received.MethodsWe adopted a qualitative approach, facilitating the prioritization of participant perspectives. This involved semi-structured interviews with 20 women who (i) identified as Muslim; (ii) had used mental health services in the last three years; and (iii) were 18 + years of age. Interviews were transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis techniques.ResultsThree prominent themes emerged from the analysis. These themes were (i) stigma and misunderstandings in families (especially parents) and sometimes in the ethno-religious community, both acting as barriers to health service utilization and recovery; (ii) frustrating clinical experiences within formal mental health care settings, in particular a perceived lack of cultural and religious competence, which negatively affected service utilization and the development of a therapeutic alliance; and (iii) deeply-held religious beliefs, practices and trust in God imparting a rhythm, purpose and meaning, which were strong facilitators to recovery.Conclusions and implications for practiceThese findings suggest that recovery from mental illness can be advanced by a three-pronged approach in this population. First, anti-stigma mental health literacy interventions could be held in collaboration with Muslim community groups. Second, there is a need for further religious and cultural competence interventions, resources and trainings for mental health professionals working with Muslims. Third, self-care resources should be developed that harness aspects of religious practices that can give structure, meaning, purpose and hope. All this could ultimately foster recovery in this population.

Examining the psychometric properties of the headspace Youth (mental health) Service Satisfaction Scale in a mental health service in Ireland.

Evaluating service quality and satisfaction is central to the provision of accessible and developmentally appropriate youth mental health services. However, there are limited suitable measures and a lack of published evidence on the psychometric properties of measures to assess young people's satisfaction with youth mental health services. The headspace Youth (Mental Health) Service Satisfaction Scale (YSSS) was designed and implemented to assess young people's satisfaction with headspace mental health services in Australia. This study examined the reliability and factor structure of the YSSS in a youth mental health service in Ireland. The sample comprised 1449 young people (66.2% female) aged 12-25 years (M = 16.48, SD = 2.97). Participants completed the YSSS after their final brief intervention session through Jigsaw-The National Centre for Youth Mental Health. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed on one- and four-factor models to test findings from previous studies. Reliability was also examined. CFA supported a single-factor structure of the YSSS, and all items were suitable for inclusion. The internal consistency of the measure was deemed acceptable (α = 0.89). Findings suggest that the YSSS is a reliable measure for monitoring satisfaction with youth mental health services in an Irish context. The measure demonstrated a unidimensional construct of satisfaction. These findings support the broader application of the YSSS and add to existing knowledge on measuring satisfaction within youth mental health services.

Assessment of mental health and food service satisfaction of the elderly in old-age homes in and around Vadodara

ABSTRACT Background: Aging causes changes in the sensory and dental problems of an individual. For the elderly, eating is not only an important activity for the maintenance of life but also a great pleasure, and therefore, the desire to eat their favorite food becomes a source of motivation to get out of bed and improve their quality of life. Materials and Methods: The current study was framed to examine the mental health and food service satisfaction (FSS) of residents under three domains (diet, food service, and food safety) staying in old-age homes (OAHs) in and around Vadodara. A purposive sampling design was used where consent was obtained from nine OAHs in and around Vadodara and the elderly (n = 123). Assessment of mental health was made using standard tools such as the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), mini-mental state examination (MMSE), and six-item cognitive impairment test (6CIT), whereas the FSS of residents was assessed by a validated semi-structured questionnaire. Results: The elderly enrolled in charitable and private institutes were 54% and 46%, respectively. The mean age of participants was 75.07 ± 9.22 years, GDS was 4.13 ± 4.67, MMSE was 23.24 ± 6.37, 6CIT was 8.02 ± 8.20, and FSS of residents was 25.89 ± 5.32, respectively. The prevalence of severe depression (100%) and poor FSS (66.7%) was found more in females than male elderly. 6CIT and FSS of residents showed a significant association (P < 0.05) with the type (private or charitable) of OAHs, showing the prevalence of impaired cognition and poor FSS higher among the charitable OAHs elderly than private homes. FSS of residents was highly significantly correlated (P < 0.05) with GDS, MMSE, and 6CIT of the elderly. Severely depressed elderly showed a significant association (P < 0.05) with severe cognitive impairment and poor FSS. Dependency in the elderly showed a significant association (P < 0.05) with severe cognitive impairment. Poor FSS of residents was significantly associated (P < 0.05) with charitable homes. Conclusion: FSS is affected by the poor mental health of the elderly. Thus, administrative staff of OAHs are suggested to assist with better diet, food service, and food safety for supporting the health and well-being of the elderly.

The association of religious factors with mental health-service utilisation and satisfaction in a mixed Sámi and Norwegian adult population: Adopting the SAMINOR 2 Questionnaire Survey

ABSTRACT The Indigenous Sámi have poorer mental health than the majority population and fairly equal access to professional mental healthcare. Despite this condition, certain studies indicate that this group is underrepresented among the users of such services. Religion or spirituality (R/S) often influences mental health-service utilisation and satisfaction among other Indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities. Thus, this study examines the situation in Sámi-Norwegian areas. We utilised cross-sectional data from the population-based SAMINOR 2 Questionnaire Survey (2012; subsample n = 2,364; 71% non-Sámi) in mixed Sámi-Norwegian regions of Northern and Central Norway. We analysed the associations between R/S factors and past-year mental health-service utilisation and satisfaction among individuals reporting mental health problems, substance use, or addictive behaviours. Multivariable-adjusted regression models considering sociodemographic factors, including Sámi ethnicity, were applied. Religious attendance was significantly associated with infrequent past-year use of mental health services (OR = 0.77) and fewer mental health problems, indicating that the R/S fellowship may buffer mental distress and represent an alternative psychological support to professional services. R/S was not significantly associated with lifetime mental health-service satisfaction. We found no ethnic differences in service utilisation or satisfaction.

Satisfaction and associated factors among psychiatry service users at Amanuel mental specialized hospital. Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

BackgroundPatient service satisfaction is the central point for the health system. Worldwide, around 450 million people suffer from mental and behavioral disorders. Clients who are dissatisfied with the service will miss appointments, abandon the treatment plan, and eventually relapse from the illness. Despite improved access to health services, the satisfaction from health institution services was decreasing from time to time and there is little information on health service consumer satisfaction.ObjectiveTo assess the satisfaction and associated factors among psychiatric service consumers at Amanuel Mental Specialized Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2021/2022.Methods and materialsAn institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 420 psychiatric service users from December 15 to January 16, 2021/2022. Systematic random sampling was used. A face-face interview technique and chart review were used to collect the data and a standard and validated tool called the mental health service satisfaction scale (MHSSS) was used to measure satisfaction. The collected data was entered into EPI info version 7 and exported to SPSS version 22 for analysis. The binary logistic regression model was used to analyze the data and bivariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify associated factors with satisfaction. The level of significance was reported at P < 0.05.ResultsThe study showed that the magnitude of patient satisfaction was 63.3% [95% CI 58.3–67.9%). Sex (AOR = 1.7, 95% CI (1.072–2.88)], educational status (AOR 4.2, 95% CI 1.64–1.8), residency [AOR = 1.8, 95% CI (1.098–3.19)], distance from the hospital [AOR 0.56, (0.34–0.93)] were significantly associated with patient satisfaction at p < 0.05.ConclusionThe magnitude of patient satisfaction was high. The study showed that Sex, educational status, residence, and distance from the hospital were significantly associated with satisfaction. Prioritizing care for female patients and those coming from a distance is necessary. More ever, it is preferable to routinely and continually monitor healthcare facilities so that timely feedback can be given and problems that affect patient satisfaction can be resolved.

A longitudinal study of headspace youth oriented mental health service satisfaction, service utilization and clinical characteristics.

This study examined satisfaction with accessibility, staff attitudes, personal outcomes service components of youth-oriented mental health service, Headspace, and those components' associations with psychological distress and functional status at intake, service utilization patterns and demographic characteristics at middle and end of treatment. Data were collected between March 2016 and June 2018 from 112 participants (12-25 years) who consented and completed at least seven sessions at the Headspace youth integrated-care centre in Israel using the centre's registries and the Youth Service Satisfaction Scale. Headspace participants attended an average of 12 sessions (SD=3.12), they waited up to 2 weeks for their first intake (n=57; 73%), after which most were offered a psychotherapy session (n=80, 71%) within 2months. Participants' satisfaction with Headspace was above the mid-point for all service aspects. The overall effect for time was not significant, F(1)=1.14, p > .05. However, a significant increase in satisfaction with personal outcomes was found between the middle and the end of treatment, F(2,4)=3.11, p < .05 compared to all other aspects. The length of waiting time, level of distress, number of sessions attended by parents and age were correlated with satisfaction. Correlations were found with waiting time, distress level, number of sessions attended by parents and age. High levels of satisfaction with Headspace service aspects strengthens the evidence for areas of importance in designing youth mental health services: youth-friendly staff, general environment, accessibility and outcomes achievement.

Magnitude of patient satisfaction and its associated factors at the outpatient psychiatry service of Dilla university referral hospital, Southern Ethiopia, Dilla, 2020.

BackgroundPatient satisfaction is a subjective attitudinal response of a client to a health institution’s services and a pillar of quality assurance. Patients who are happy with their treatment are much more likely to stick with it, improve quickly, and function normally. Satisfied patients are more compliant, improve faster, and are more functional. However, there haven’t been enough studies conducted across the country, and none have been conducted in this study area. As a result, the purpose of the study was to estimate the size of patient satisfaction and associated determinants at Dilla University Referral Hospital’s psychiatry unit in Dilla, 2020.MethodsThis was a hospital-based cross-sectional study design utilized using a simple random sampling technique. To assess patient satisfaction, we used the 24-item Mental Health Service Satisfaction Scale which was a validated tool in Ethiopia. The link between the outcome and the independent variable was determined using linear regression analysis (P< 0.05).ResultThis study enrolled 409 respondents with a response rate of 97%. The overall mean percentage score of patient satisfaction was 55.4% (95% CI (48.4%– 59.2%). Having bipolar disorder diagnosis [β = -2.93, 95% CI (-4.33, -1.96), p = .000], distance from the hospital [β = -2.34), 95% CI (-3.765, -1.735), P = .001], waiting time [β = -2.19, 95% CI (-3.49, -1.10), p = .000], monthly income (2.95, 95% CI (1.65, 5.23) and Urban residence (β = 1.43, 95% CI (1.03–3.43), p = 0.01) were variables significantly associated with perceived patient satisfaction.Conclusions and recommendationsIn this study, more than half of the respondents scored above the mean percentage score of patient satisfaction. The amount of time spent in the waiting area and the distance traveled to the hospital were identified as variables that could be improved by working with different stakeholders.

Black Adolescent Experiences with COVID-19 and Mental Health Services Utilization.

BackgroundCOVID-19 is disproportionately impacting communities of color. Black adolescents are among the most vulnerable to COVID-19, have high mental health service needs, and have low mental health services utilization. During this time of great physical threat due to COVID-19, it is equally important to understand and support the mental health of Black adolescents.MethodThis study collected open-ended survey item responses from adolescents (12–17 years old) that identified as Black, living in a city in the Southeastern United States (n = 33). Grounded theory was used to analyze the data, revealing details of the lived experience of these Black adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic.ResultsBlack adolescents reported that COVID-19 has been both positive and negative for them. Family is of utmost importance to them, as are their peers, whom they do not get to interact with due to changes in the operation of schools. Despite experiencing stress, adaptive responses to COVID-19 are reported. Black adolescents continue to cite issues with mental health services and providers. Financial issues were a common theme for these youth, blocking access to services and causing issues in the home environment.ConclusionsMental health service providers must address the service access and quality issues repeatedly reported by Black adolescents. Direct action must be taken to facilitate an increase in Black adolescents mental health services utilization and satisfaction. Perceived Patient Satisfaction and Associated Factors among Psychiatric Patients Who Attend Their Treatment at Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic, Jimma University Medical Center, Southwest Ethiopia, Jimma, 2019.

Background In health care, patient satisfaction is an attitudinal response and a pillar for quality assurance, but there is reluctance to measure it among mentally ill patients. Satisfied patients become more compliant. However, no study was done in this study area before. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the magnitude of perceived patient satisfaction and associated factor at Jimma University Medical Center, outpatient psychiatry clinic. Methods Cross-sectional study design was conducted, and systematic random sampling technique was used to get study participants. The 24-item Mental Health Service Satisfaction Scale (a validated tool in Ethiopia) was used to assess patient satisfaction. Data was entered using Epi-data 3.1 and exported to the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 22.0 for analysis. Linear regression analysis (P < 0.05) was used to identify the association between the outcome and independent variable. Result 414 respondents participated in the study with response rate of 98%. The overall percentage of patient satisfaction was 50.3% (95% CI 48.4%–51.2%). This study found that half of the study participants are satisfied with the service. Distance from the hospital, current substance use, waiting time, and having good social support were identified as modifiable factors that can be improved through working with stakeholders to increase patient satisfaction.

Preferences, use of and satisfaction with mental health services among a sample of Puerto Rican cancer patients.

ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to describe the preferences, the use, satisfaction of mental health services (MHS) among a sample of Puerto Rican patients with cancer undergoing oncology treatment.MethodsA convenience sample of 120 patients diagnosed with cancer was recruited. Self-report questionnaires assessed socio-demographic and background questions, and the Mental Health Service Preference, Utilization and Satisfaction Questionnaire (MHSPUS). The Socio-demographic and Background Questionnaire inquired about participants’ demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, and included questions such as history of psychiatric diagnosis and spiritual practices. Univariate and Chi square analyses were used for descriptive purposes. Logistic regressions were used to explore associations between sociodemographic factors and MHS preferences and use.ResultsThe majority of the sample were females (53.8%), 61 and older (53.8%), and married or living with partner (57.1%), and reported an income equal to or less than $12,000 per year (44.4%), which places them under the US federal poverty line. Most of the participants (66.7%) reported being receptive to seeking services. Findings showed a significant association between living situation and past (p < .05) and lifetime use (p < .05) of MHS and past use of MHS. Participants living alone were more like to have used MHS in the past and during their lifetime. Adjusted logistic regression analyses revealed that living with someone was a protective factor for not using MHS in their lifetime (OR = 0.28; C1 = 0.08–0.95). Participants preferred to receive MHS at the oncology clinic, preferably on the date of their oncology appointments and during morning hours.ConclusionFindings support the integration of mental health services within the oncology practice setting.

Young People's Satisfaction With the Online Mental Health Service eheadspace: Development and Implementation of a Service Satisfaction Measure.

BackgroundOnline youth mental health services are an expanding approach to meeting service need and can be used as the first step in a stepped-care approach. However, limited evidence exists regarding satisfaction with online services, and there is no standardized service satisfaction measure.ObjectiveThis study implemented an online youth mental health service satisfaction questionnaire within eheadspace, an online youth mental health service. The aims were to test the questionnaire’s psychometric properties and identify current levels of satisfaction among service users, as well as to identify client and service contact characteristics that affect satisfaction.MethodsData were collected from 2280 eheadspace clients via an online questionnaire advertised and accessed through the eheadspace service platform between September 2016 and February 2018. Client and service contact characteristics, potential outcomes, and session and service feedback data were collected.ResultsThe service satisfaction questionnaire demonstrated high internal consistency for the overall satisfaction scale (alpha=.95) and its three subscales: session satisfaction, potential outcomes, and service satisfaction. A three-factor model was the best fit to the data, although including a higher order unidimensional construct of overall satisfaction was also a reasonable fit. Overall, young people were very satisfied with eheadspace (mean 3.60, SD 0.83). Service characteristics, but not client characteristics, were significantly associated with satisfaction. Young people were more satisfied with eheadspace when they had greater engagement as evident through receiving esupport rather than briefer service provision, having a longer session and greater interaction with the clinician, and not previously attending a face-to-face headspace center.ConclusionsThe online youth mental health service satisfaction questionnaire developed for and implemented in eheadspace showed good psychometric properties. The measure is brief, has good internal consistency, and has a clear factor structure. The measure could be adapted for use in other online youth mental health services. The young people using eheadspace and completing the feedback survey were highly satisfied. Greater engagement with the online service was shown to be associated with greater satisfaction. No specific client demographic groups were shown to be more or less satisfied.

Satisfaction of users of Psychosocial Care Centers.

Objective:evaluate the satisfaction of users with the care provided at the Psychosocial Care Centers and its association with clinical and sociodemographic factors.Method:this cross-sectional study was conducted with 55 users from 5 Psychosocial Care Centers. The sociodemographic and clinical characteristics were obtained through an individual structured interview. The abbreviated version of the Mental Health Services Satisfaction Scale (SATIS-BR) was used for data collection.Results:were descriptively analyzed and simple and multiple logistic regression models were adjusted for analysis of associations, estimating the gross and adjusted odds ratio, with the respective confidence intervals of 95%. Results: the age average of the sample was 40.1 (±12.4) years and the degree of satisfaction average was 4.56 (±0.45). Users with less education (primary school) had 5 times more chance of having less satisfaction (p<0.05). Users with frequency of intensive monitoring were 5 times more likely to have less satisfaction than users who receive monthly monitoring (p<0.05).Conclusion:the majority of users are satisfied with the service and factors such as low education and higher frequency of monitoring influenced the satisfaction.

Developing a measure of mental health service satisfaction for use in low income countries: a mixed methods study

BackgroundService satisfaction is integral to quality of care and measures are therefore considered important indicators of quality. Patient’s responses to their experiences of using services are under-researched in the context of mental healthcare in low income countries. Our aim was to use mixed methods to develop a new measure of satisfaction for use among consumers of the new models of mental healthcare which are currently being scaled-up.MethodsWe used qualitative methods to explore the concept of service satisfaction. On the basis of these findings, we developed a new ‘Mental health service satisfaction scale’ (MHSSS v0.0) by adapting existing measures of service satisfaction. We evaluated psychometric properties of the new measure, among a sample of service users with severe mental disorder (SMD) (n = 200) and caregivers (n = 200). Following expert review, a modified version of the measure was developed (MHSSS v1.0) and psychometric properties were examined with data from a second independent sample (n = 150 service users with SMD and n = 150 caregivers).ResultsFactors identified in analysis of the first quantitative sample coincide with core concepts of service satisfaction as reported in the literature and were reflected in the key themes which emerged from our qualitative study: interpersonal factors, efficacy, communication, technical competency and adequacy of facilities. There was generally consensus among caregivers and service users regarding dimensions of satisfaction. However there was evidence of some differences in prioritization. Revisions made to version 0.0 of the Mental Health Service Satisfaction Scale (MHSSS) led to an improved instrument, with excellent internal consistency, convergent validity and factor loadings indicative of a uni-dimensional construct.ConclusionsOur findings suggest that conceptions of service satisfaction among people accessing a service for SMD are broadly similar with those established in the literature. Our findings indicate that the MHSSS might be a useful candidate for inclusion in the new toolkit of measures needed to facilitate monitoring of service satisfaction which will be crucial to quality improvement.

Impact of Internalized Stigma, Anger Expression Style, and Mental Health Service Satisfaction on Self-esteem in Inpatients with Schizophrenia

Purpose: This study was performed to identify how internalized stigma, anger expression style, and mental health service satisfaction impact on the self-esteem of inpatients with schizophrenia. Methods: For this descriptive correla-tional study, 191 inpatients with schizophrenia participated. They had been admitted to one of six mental hospitals in three areas of South Korea. Data were collected from August 1 to November 30, 2016 using self-report ques-tionnaires and data were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise mul-tiple regression with IBM SPSS 22.0. Results: The significant predictors of self-esteem in inpatients with schizo-phrenia were internalized stigma, anger expression style, and mental health service satisfaction, explaining 36% of the variance in self-esteem. The most significant predictor of self-esteem in inpatients with schizophrenia was in-ternalized stigma. Conclusion: Study findings suggest that a significant reduction in the internalized stigma of in-patients with schizophrenia increases their self-esteem. It is also, necessary to improve adaptive anger expression style and mental health service satisfaction.

Telepsychological services with criminal justice and substance abuse clients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Recent years have seen the incorporation of telepsychology into poorly accessed, rural, and underserved settings, including criminal justice and substance abuse treatment. A systematic search of the literature on telepsychological and related services with justice-involved and substance abuse clients revealed numerous descriptive reports, but few empirical studies. The results of 3 studies of criminal justice participants and 2 studies of substance-abuse participants were subjected to a series of 5 outcome-specific meta-analyses (mental health symptoms, therapeutic processes, program engagement, program performance, and service satisfaction). These 5 studies, all of which utilized a comparison group, contributed a total of 342 participants and 14 total effect sizes. Summary data on 3 additional uncontrolled studies are also presented. Results indicated that telepsychological outcomes were at least comparable with in-person outcomes. This review serves as an initial reference for clinicians and policymakers working with criminal justice and substance abuse clients, but also highlights the need for more rigorous scientific investigation into the nuances of telepsychological practice.

Satisfaction with youth mental health services: further scale development and findings from headspace – Australia's National Youth Mental Health Foundation

This study aimed to determine the psychometric properties of the headspace youth (mental health) service satisfaction scale (YSSS), a 14-item purpose-designed scale for use with adolescents and young adults attending headspace centres, and to examine the level of satisfaction with headspace centre services and the client characteristics that predict this. There were 21 354 eligible headspace clients who had received more than one service over the 12-month data collection period during 2013-2014, and 12 436 (58%) completed a satisfaction scale. headspace clients could optionally self-complete the satisfaction scale at the beginning of visits 2, 5, 10 and 15. Clients' demographic and clinical characteristics were also recorded. Factor analysis identified a four-factor solution for the scale and internal consistency of the subscales was acceptable to excellent. Satisfaction with headspace was high and increased over time for those who completed the scale multiple times. Several demographic and clinical characteristics predicted the likelihood of completion and level of satisfaction, with younger age shown to be a persistent predictor of lower satisfaction. Client satisfaction with headspace is high and increases with ongoing engagement. Development of the headspace YSSS contributes a new client satisfaction scale with tested psychometric properties for adolescents and young adults engaged in mental health services, providing an essential tool for youth mental health services to routinely evaluate the experiences of young people accessing their services.

Gender and the relative importance of mental health satisfaction domains

Consumer-reported satisfaction data is a tool used for measuring and targeting areas for quality improvement in mental healthcare. In this study, we investigated the relationship between gender and the relative importance of mental health service satisfaction domains to overall satisfaction, in addition to gender differences in satisfaction across domains. People receiving mental health services (1765 males and 1950 females) completed questionnaires regarding their overall service satisfaction and satisfaction along six domains: Access to Services, Quality and Appropriateness, Participation in Treatment Planning, Outcome of Services, Social Connectedness, and Functioning. While all were important to overall satisfaction across genders, women reported slightly higher overall satisfaction. Linear regression analyses were used to determine the relative importance of these subscales to overall satisfaction for each gender. While the correlations between each subscale and overall satisfaction were significant for both, gender was found to moderate the relationship between some subscales and overall satisfaction. Although predictive of overall service satisfaction across the sample, we found Functioning, Outcome of Services, Social Connectedness, and Access to Services were relatively more important to overall satisfaction for men than women. Consistent feedback of results and improved access to services may be particularly effective for engaging both men and women in treatment.

P01-213 - Burn-out indexes in mental health services employees and satisfaction in patients with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder

ObjectivesThe aim of our study is the investigation of burn-out indexes in public mental health services employees (psychiatrists, psychologists, nursing staff, care providers) working with patients affected by Bipolar Disorder in order to correlate them with patients’ indexes of satisfaction about received treatment and care.MethodsA sample of 20 employees of mental health services (psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses) and one consisting of 22 patients with a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder have been recruited at the Bipolar Disorders Unit of the Day Hospital of Psychiatry of the A. Gemelli Hospital in Rome. Operators have been submitted the Maslach Burnout Inventory (Emotional distress, Depersonalization, Personal satisfaction/achievement/fulfilment) while patients have been submitted the Questionnaire on Satisfaction of patient (QS)ResultsBy calculating the Spearman Correlation Coefficient the Depersonalization dimension proves highly correlated with the three subscales of QS: Doctor-Patient relationship quality (-.51); Information Quality and Doctor's therapeutic competence (-.48); Efficiency of service organization (-.58)ConclusionsIn our sample high levels of Depersonalization are correlated to a low satisfaction of patients. We therefore expect low levels of Depersonalization to be correlated with a higher satisfaction of the patient. Although it is not possible to generalize these results we can hypothesize that burn out negatively influences patients’ satisfaction.

Parent and Adolescent Satisfaction with Mental Health Services: Does it Relate to Youth Diagnosis, Age, Gender, or Treatment Outcome?

Consumer satisfaction with treatment is important information for providers of mental health services. The goal of the current study was to examine the relationship between youth and parent satisfaction ratings and the following youth variables: gender, age, primary diagnosis, and changes in functioning and symptomatology after 6 months of services. Results demonstrated that in a large sample of youth receiving community mental health services satisfaction with services differed as a function of the adolescents' clinician-derived primary diagnosis, age, and reported changes in symptoms and functioning. Although significant, these variables accounted for only a small portion of the variance in satisfaction. Additionally, the relationship between parent and youth ratings of satisfaction was low, but significant. The implications of these findings are discussed as well as future directions for clinicians and researchers.

Satisfação com o trabalho e impacto causado nos profissionais de serviço de saúde mental

To assess job satisfaction and work impact among providers of a mental health service and their potential association with sociodemographic and job-related variables. A cross-sectional study was carried out in 321 employees of a long-stay mental health service in Rio de Janeiro, Southeastern Brazil, in 2005. The following instruments were applied: the WHO Mental Health Services Satisfaction and Work Impact scales, and a questionnaire on sociodemographic and job features. Variable associations were analysed using the Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, Chi-square tests and multiple linear regression. The mean score of satisfaction was 3.29 (SD=0.64) and the mean score for work impact was 1.77 (SD=0.62). Of all respondents, 61.8% reported a moderate level of satisfaction. Job satisfaction was positively associated with increasing age, lower schooling, being a non-governmental organization employee, developing non-patient-related activities, being involved in an innovative project. The highest levels of work impact were observed among civil servants, young people and females. Most features associated to the lowest levels of job satisfaction were associated to the highest levels of work impact. Despite the moderate level of satisfaction among providers, there is an evident need for policy changes, mainly those related to increasing availability of supplies and human resources and building restoration.
