Differences in Exercise Stress, Job Satisfaction, Intention to Quit Exercise, and Quality of Life According to the Psychological Abuse Experiences of Elite Male Athletes.

This study aimed to further understand psychological abuse in sports and contribute to the development of elite sports and athletes' persistent performance by identifying the causal effects of psychological abuse on elite athletes' exercise stress, job satisfaction, intention to quit exercise, and quality of life (QOL). Data were collected from 363 elite South Korean male athletes (ages ≥ 20 years) from August to September 2023. The independent variable for comparative analysis was the presence or absence of psychological abuse in elite male athletes by coaches. The participants were divided into two groups: a non-abuse-experienced group (Group 1) and an abuse-experienced group (Group 2). Participants' demographic and athletic background information (e.g., career and sport) were also collected. This study showed that the three factors (exercise stress, intention to quit exercise, and QOL) were higher in Group 2 than in Group 1. These findings provide a meaningful analysis of the impact of psychological abuse on the mental health, persistence, and overall QOL of elite male athletes that can be used to develop countermeasures and policies against psychological abuse that threatens the mental health of elite athletes.

Parental cancer: mediating and moderating roles of psychological inflexibility in the links between illness severity and parental quality of life and family outcomes

AbstractThe challenges of parental cancer while caring for young offspring are often neglected by researchers and healthcare providers. Focusing on parents with cancer, this cross-sectional study examines the mediating and moderating roles of a malleable risk factor, psychological inflexibility, in the relationships between perceived illness severity and parental quality of life (QoL) and family outcomes. Psychological inflexibility was conceptualized using the acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) framework. A total of 86 parents with cancer caring for young offspring (aged 11–24 years; M = 17.94, SD = 3.68) completed a survey that assessed psychological inflexibility, parental mental and physical health QoL, family outcomes (family functioning, parenting concerns, and openness to discuss cancer), socio-demographics, and illness variables. Mediation analyses indicated that higher perceived illness severity was associated with higher levels of psychological inflexibility, which in turn were related to higher detrimental impacts on parental QoL and family outcomes. Results of moderation analyses were non-significant. Findings highlight the detrimental impacts of illness severity on psychological inflexibility, suggesting that it is a psychosocial risk factor in parents dealing with cancer. ACT-based interventions which foster psychological flexibility are likely to enhance parental QoL and family outcomes.

Social determinants of health in adults with whiplash associated disorders.

Although it is well-known that chronic diseases need to be managed within the complex biopsychosocial framework, little is known about the role of sociodemographic features in adults with whiplash-associated disorders (WAD) and their association with health outcomes. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between various sociodemographic features (age, sex, ethnicity, education, working, marriage, caring for dependents, and use of alcohol and drugs) and health outcomes (pain, disability, and physical/mental health-related quality of life) in WAD, both through their individual relationships and also via cluster analysis. Independent t-tests and Kruskal-Wallis tests (with Mann-Whitney tests where appropriate) were used to compare data for each health outcome. Variables demonstrating a significant relationship with health outcomes were then entered into two-step cluster analysis. N = 281 participated in study (184 females, mean (±SD) age 40.9 (±10.7) years). Individually, level of education (p = 0.044), consumption of non-prescribed controlled or illegal drugs (p = 0.015), and use of alcohol (p = 0.008) influenced level of disability. Age (p = 0.014), marriage status (p = 0.008), and caring for dependents (p = 0.036) influenced mental health quality of life. Collectively, two primary clusters emerged, with one cluster defined by marriage, care of dependents, working status, and age >40 years associated with improved mental health outcomes (F 1,265 = 10.1, p = 0.002). Consistent with the biopsychosocial framework of health, this study demonstrated that various sociodemographic features are associated with health outcomes in WAD, both individually and collectively. Recognizing factors that are associated with poor health outcomes may facilitate positive outcomes and allow resource utilization to be tailored appropriately.

Predictors of Mental Health Outcomes in a Multidisciplinary Weight Management Program for Class 3 Obesity.

This study aimed to examine the potential predictors of improvement in mental health outcomes following participation in an intensive non-surgical outpatient weight management program (WMP) in an Australian public hospital. This was a retrospective cohort study of all adults with Class 3 obesity (BMI ≥ 40 kg/m2) who enrolled in the WMP from March 2018 to June 2021. The participants completed the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire Short Version (EDE-QS), Kessler-10 Psychological Distress Scale, and 36-Item Short-Form Survey (SF-36) at baseline and 12-month follow-up. A total of 115 patients completed 12 months in the WMP and were included in the study, with 76.5% being female, a mean ± SD age at baseline of 51.3 ± 13.8 years, a weight of 146 ± 26 kg, and a BMI of 51.1 ± 8.6 kg/m2. The participants lost an average of 8.6 ± 0.2 kg over 12 months, and greater weight loss at follow-up was significantly associated with improved global EDE-QS scores, psychological distress, and improved mental health quality of life. However, improvements in most mental health outcomes were not predicted by weight loss alone. Notably, a lower eating disorder risk at baseline was associated with less psychological distress at follow-up and greater weight loss at follow-up. Our results also found an association between reduced psychological distress and reduced binge eating frequency. These findings support the inclusion components of obesity interventions that target the psychological correlates of obesity to support improved outcomes in people with Class 3 obesity. Future studies should aim to identify which aspects of the WMP helped improve people's psychological outcomes.

Loneliness in older primary care patients and its relationship to physical and mental health-related quality of life.

Loneliness is a significant public health challenge in the United States, especially among older adults. The epidemiology of loneliness among older adults in primary care is lacking, and specific research is needed on how loneliness impacts older primary patients' physical, mental, and cognitive health. A large sample of older primary care patients were recruited for a trial during the COVID-19 pandemic to measure the relationship between loneliness and physical and mental quality of life (QOL). Baseline data come from the Caregiver Outcomes of Alzheimer's Disease Screening (COADS) study, an ongoing randomized controlled trial evaluating benefits and risks of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias screening among primary care patients ages 65 and older, collected April 2020 to September 2021. Loneliness was measured with the 5-item, Loneliness Fixed Form Ages 18+ from The NIH Toolbox Emotion Battery, physical and mental health-related QOL was measured with the SF-36v2, and depression and anxiety severity were measured with the PHQ-9 and GAD-7, respectively. Spearman correlation analyses revealed that loneliness was moderately correlated with mental health QOL (r[601] = -0.43, p < 0.001), anxiety severity (r[601] = 0.44, p < 0.001), and depression severity (r[601] = 0.42, p < 0.001), while weakly correlated with physical health QOL (r[601] = -0.15, p < 0.001). After conducting unadjusted and adjusted linear regression models, we found that loneliness was significantly associated with both lower mental (p < 0.001) and physical (p < 0.001) QOL. Furthermore, loneliness remained significantly associated with worse mental QOL after adjusting for age, gender, race, ethnicity, educational level, perceived income status, neighborhood disadvantage, severity of comorbidities, and comorbid depression and anxiety. Primary care providers should discuss loneliness with their older adult patients and provide resources to help patients develop and maintain meaningful social relationships.

Influence of mental health service provision on the perceived quality of life among psychiatric outpatients: associations and mediating factors.

ObjectiveTo investigate the relationship between perceived mental health service provision and quality of life (QoL) as perceived by patients in psychiatric outpatient care.MethodsA total of 373 adult patients registered at 15 psychiatric outpatient clinics in three regions in central and southern Sweden were included in the study. Survey data were collected using a questionnaire on mental health service provision, symptom severity, recovery, clinical diagnosis, sociodemographics (serving as independent variables) and QoL (serving as the dependent variable). Three aspects of mental health service provision were used: patients’ perceived quality of care, perceived staff-patient interaction, and patient reported psychiatric treatments. Structural equation modelling was used to model the relationship among the variables.ResultsVariables in mental health service provision showed few direct associations with patients’ perceived QoL. Instead, the associations of mental health service provision on QoL were mainly mediated through symptom severity and recovery. These relationships were retained after adjusting for sociodemographic variables and clinical diagnoses. The final model achieved excellent goodness of fit (χ2 = 49.502, p = 0.230, RMSEA = 0.020, CFI = 0.997 and a SRMR = 0.024).ConclusionThis study shows that mental health service provision is associated with patients’ perceived QoL; however, this association is mostly indirect and mediated by reduced symptom severity and increased recovery. This finding can help inform the design of future interventions to enhance service provision to improve patients’ QoL.

Cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Mental Health Quality of Life (MHQoL) questionnaire in a Chinese-speaking population with chronic musculoskeletal pain

BackgroundThe Mental Health Quality of Life (MHQoL) questionnaire is concise and suitable for rapid assessment of CMP (chronic musculoskeletal pain) patients in primary care. However, there is a lack of Chinese versions of the MHQoL.ObjectiveTo cross-culturally translate the MHQoL into Chinese and to assess its psychometric properties in Chinese-speaking patients with CMP.MethodsThe MHQoL was translated into Chinese according to the International Guidelines for the Cross-Cultural Adaptation of Self-Report Measures. 171 CMP patients were recruited to receive the Chinese versions of the MHQoL, SF-36, and HADS tests, and the MHQoL was retested seven days later.ResultThe Chinese version of MHQoL had good retest reliability (MHQoL-7D: ICC = 0.971; MHQoL-VAS: ICC = 0.988) and internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.829). It showed a moderate correlation with the SF-36 total score (r=-0.509); the MHQoL-VAS moderately correlated with the Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale (r=-0.548). The MHQoL-7D showed no correlations with the SF-36’s PF (r=-0.083) and BP (r=-0.170), weak correlations with RP (r=-0.284), RE (r=-0.298), and SF (r=-0.380), and moderate-to-strong correlations with GH (r=-0.638), VT (r=-0.480), and MH (r=-0.632).ConclusionThe Chinese version of the MHQoL can be used in clinical practice and research in Chinese-speaking CMP patients.

Quality of life and associated factors of heroin-dependent patients receiving methadone and buprenorphine maintenance treatment.

Although studies in Western countries have investigated the quality of life (QoL) of heroin users, limited research on this topic has been conducted in Asia. The present study assessed QoL in patients with heroin dependence receiving medications to treat opioid use disorder. We performed a cross-sectional study of patients with heroin dependence receiving methadone and buprenorphine treatment. The demographic and substance use variables of patients receiving methadone and buprenorphine were compared. The Chinese Health Questionnaire (CHQ-12), Obsessive Compulsive Drug Use Scale (OCDUS), and World Health Organization Quality of Life Short Form Taiwan version (WHOQOL-BREF-T) were administered to measure patient mental health problems, addiction severity, and QoL, respectively. Multivariate regression was used to identify the factors associated with QoL. A total of 149 patients receiving methadone and 31 receiving buprenorphine completed the questionnaires. Individuals in the buprenorphine group were more likely to be married (p = 0.024) or employed (p = 0.024), have a higher educational level (p = 0.013), have lower drug craving (OCDUS: p = 0.035), or have higher QoL (WHOQOL-BREF-T: p = 0.004) than those in the methadone group. After adjustment for other variables, employment was positively associated with the physical, psychological, and environmental domains of QoL. Receiving buprenorphine treatment (p = 0.032) and longer treatment duration (p = 0.016) were associated with higher psychological QoL. Several factors were associated with QoL in patients with heroin dependence. Some measures may improve their QoL, such as reducing employment barriers, improving treatment adherence, or increasing accessibility to buprenorphine treatment.

Predictors of Quality of Life Among Omani Family Caregivers of Patients With Traumatic Brain Injury.

This study aimed to explore the quality of life (QoL) of Omani family caregivers (FCs) of patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). After acute care, the burden of caring for patients with TBI is mainly shouldered by FCs. This cross-sectional study was conducted at Khoula Hospital, Muscat, Oman. Patient data were collected at the time of discharge and 8 weeks post-discharge between April 2019 and December 2021. The SF-12 General Health Survey and Preparedness for Caregiving scale were used to measure the caregivers' QoL and preparedness, respectively. The Disability Rating and TBI Symptom scales were used to measure the patients' disability and symptoms, respectively. A total of 36 FCs and patients with TBI were recruited. Most caregivers were the parent (41.7%) or child (27.8%) of the patient with TBI. Overall, the caregivers had good physical QoL (PQoL) and mental health QoL (MHQoL) but low caregiving preparedness at the time of discharge. At 8 weeks post-discharge, there were significant improvements in caregiving preparedness (P <0.01) and patient disability (P <0.05) but a depreciation in caregivers' MHQoL (P <0.05), with no change in their PQoL. The caregiver's employment status and the severity of the patient's sleep and mood problems were modifiable predictors of the caregivers' PQoL. Caregiver's preparedness, the patient's inability to live independently, and the severity of the patient's mood and behavioural problems were predictors of caregivers' MHQoL. Caring for patients with TBI negatively impacts the QoL of Omani FCs; this correlates with the physical, emotional, and mental health symptoms of the patient.

Perceptions and predictors of health-related quality of life among aging adults who stutter: a first glimpse

ABSTRACT Quality of life among adults who stutter (AWS) is well-studied but little is known about health-related quality of life, an index of successful aging. The study’s aim was to begin documenting perceptions and predictors of physical and mental health quality of life (PH-, MH-QoL) among aging AWS. Forty AWS (50-84 years old) in the United States completed the SF-36 survey of PH- and MH-QoL, and were surveyed on potential explanatory variables including resilience, social resources, health-promoting behavior, socioeconomic status, perceptions of aging, social risk, identity management, neuroticism, stuttering severity, and difficulty communicating. The prevalence of very low PH- and MH-QoL scores was compared against age- and gender-graded population norms. Finally, PH- and MH-QoL scores were regressed onto explanatory variables. Relatively few aging AWS had very low PH-QoL scores. A non-trivial subset of aging AWS had very low MH-QoL scores. Greater awareness of aging-related loss predicted lower PH- and MH-QoL. Greater neuroticism also predicted lower MH-QoL. Greater resilience predicted better MH-QoL. If replicable, results would suggest few aging AWS are at-risk for very low PH-QoL while more aging AWS are at-risk for very low MH-QoL. Predictors of PH- and MH-QoL may inform strategies for successful aging among AWS.

Profiles of quality of life among residents in permanent supportive housing during the COVID-19 pandemic

ABSTRACT This study identified profiles of quality of life (QoL) deterioration among permanent supportive housing (PSH) residents during the COVID-19 pandemic, which hasn’t been reported on yet. Between November 2020 and April 2022, 231 PSH residents from Quebec (Canada) were interviewed. Patient profiles were identified with Cluster Analysis based on the participants’ sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, and service use were compared (p < 0.05). Three QoL profiles were identified, with 62% of sample reporting QoL deterioration. Profile 1 (26% of sample) included middle-aged men living mostly in congregate PSH since 5 + years, having high social support, few health problems, and perceiving low deterioration of their health conditions and QoL. Profile 2 (44%) included residents living in PSH less than 2 years, with low social support, highly affected by serious mental disorders, few by COVID-19, perceiving deterioration of their mental health conditions and QoL. Profile 3 (30%) included younger residents living in congregate PSH for 2–5 years, with low social support, high health problems, and perceived deterioration of health conditions and QoL. The study underlined the importance of sustaining housing and care access in a pandemic context for individuals with the most unmet needs, more at risk of QoL deterioration.

Depression and active disease are the major risk factors for fatigue and sleep disturbance in inflammatory bowel disease with consequent poor quality of life: Analysis of the interplay between psychosocial factors from the developing world.

The prevalence and risk factors of fatigue and sleep disturbances in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients and their impact on the quality of life (QOL) are largely underreported in the developing world, where IBD is on the rise. Consecutive patients attending the IBD clinic were interviewed between November 2021 and March 2022 using an assisted questionnaire (English, Hindi and Telugu versions)(including demographics, disease activity, QOL, IBD fatigue score [IBD-F], Hospital anxiety and depression score: [HADS], Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index: [PSQI]). Logistic regression was used to identify risk factors of fatigue and sleep disturbance. A correlational analysis between mental health factors and QOL was performed. AS many as 202 IBD patients (age 18-78 [median 31] years, 65.8% male) completed the questionnaires. Fatigue and sleep disturbances were highly prevalent (55.9% and 53.4%, respectively). On multi-variate analysis, depression (p = 0.008, odds ratio [OR] -1.38, 95% confidence interval [CI]-1.09-1.75), active disease (p = 0.001,OR-8.81,95% CI- 2.49-31.23) and poor sleep (p = 0.009, OR-1.17, 95% CI:1.04-1.31) were predictive of fatigue, whereas depression (p < 0.001,OR-1.32,95% CI-1.19-1.46) and active disease (p < 0.001,OR-6.77, 95% CI-2.67-17.17) were predictive of sleep disturbance. On sub-group analysis, poor sleep quality and lack of renumeration predicted fatigue, whereas old age and female gender predicted poor sleep quality in Crohn's disease (CD). QOL (Short IBD questionnaire: [SIBDQ]) scores had a strong and moderate negative correlation with IBD-F (r = -0.735, p < 0.0001) and PSQI (r = -0.682, p < 0.001) scores, respectively. The results should be interpreted in the context of lack of validated translated questionnaires in all native languages in a multilingual country. Translational assistance was provided to overcome the limitation. Fatigue and sleep disturbances are highly prevalent in Indian IBD patients. Apart from modulation of disease activity, screening those with mental health illness may help improve fatigue/sleep quality and overall QOL.

The associations among well-being comparisons and affective styles in depression, anxiety, and mental health quality of life.

Frame-of-reference theories suggest that individuals use different comparison types to evaluate their well-being. Research indicates that the frequency of aversive well-being comparisons is related to depression, with engendered comparison affective impact partly accounting for this relationship. We aimed to replicate this finding, examine whether this extends to anxiety and mental health quality of life, and whether these pathways are moderated by affective styles of concealing, adjusting, and tolerating. We expected concealing as a response-focused style to be associated with higher effects of comparison affective impact on depression, anxiety, and mental health quality of life. Adjusting as an antecedent-focused strategy was expected to mitigate the effects of aversive comparison frequency on comparison affective impact, and the effects of comparison affective impact on the outcomes. Finally, tolerating was expected to be associated with lower effects on both pathways. Participants (N = 596) responded to measures of well-being comparisons, affective styles, depression, anxiety, and mental health quality of life. Frequency of aversive well-being comparisons was associated with all outcomes. These relationships were partially mediated by comparison affective impact. Adjustment moderated the pathway between aversive comparison frequency and comparison affective impact. No other moderation effect emerged. The comparison process appears important in well-being evaluations.

Sports practice, walking and biking are positively related to quality of life in adults: A cross-sectional study

IntroductionPhysical activity (PA) has been associated with better quality of life (QoL). However, it is not clear whether this association is similar considering the different PA domains and independent of the intensity of PA practiced. ObjectiveTo analyze the relationship between the time spent in PA in different domains [i.e., occupational, sports practice, walking and biking (through a combination of leisure and active transport)] and the QoL (i.e., physical functioning, role-physical, body pain, general health status, vitality, social functioning, role-emotional, and mental health) in adults. MethodsTwo hundred and sixty-one adults with median age of 43.0 years (Interquartile range = 27.0–55.0 years) participated in this epidemiological study with a cross-sectional design. The sample included 261 adults QoL, PA domains, and PA intensities were assessed by the Short-Form Health Survey questionnaire (SF-36), the Baecke questionnaire, and using an accelerometer, respectively. Linear regressions adjusting for sex, age, socioeconomic status, body mass index, smoking status, alcohol consumption, and moderate to vigorous PA were used for analysis. ResultsOccupational PA was negatively related to body pain domain of QoL (β = −4.29; 95%CI = −7.27/-1.31). Sports practice was positively related to physical functioning (β = 3.34 95%CI = 0.52/6.15), general health status (β = 5.48; 95%CI = 2.20/8.76), vitality (β = 5.39; 95%CI = 2.18/8.60), and mental health (β = 3.47; 95%CI = 0.27/6.67) domains of QoL. Walking and biking were positively associated with vitality (β = 4.48; 95%CI = 0.84/8.13) and mental health (β = 4.21; 95%CI = 0.64/7.79) QoL domains. ConclusionIn conclusion, PA domains were associated with QoL differently. Regardless of PA intensity (measured objectively) and other factors, walking and biking were associated with indicators of mental health and vitality.

THE IMPACT OF THE MOVEMENT CONTROL ORDER PHASES ON THE QUALITY OF LIFE AMONG MALAYSIAN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

This study measured the impact of the different phases during movement control order on the quality of life among local Malaysian university students aged &gt;18 years old. An online survey was distributed through a social media platform during the movement control order (MCO; 20 April to 12 May 2020) and conditional movement control order (CMCO; 12 to 20 May 2020). The same participants completed the SF-36 quality of life questionnaire that assessed the overall physical health, mental health, and eight domains which are physical functioning (PF), physical role functioning (RF), bodily pain (BP), general health perceptions (GH), vitality (V), social role functioning (SF), emotional role functioning (EF), and mental health (MH) in both phases. A total of 523 participants (Male = 222, female = 301) completed the survey. A Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed that there was a significant difference in participants’ quality of life between the MCO and CMCO phases. It was revealed in comparison to the CMCO phase, the participants reported lower in both health-related and mental quality of life for PF (Z = -13.79, p &lt;.001), RF (Z = -13.59, p &lt;.001), BP (Z = -11.64, p &lt;.001), GH (Z = -12.97, p &lt;.001), V (Z = -13.15, p &lt;.001), SF (Z = -15.19, p &lt;.001), EF (Z = -13.71, p &lt;.001), and MH (Z = -8.47, p &lt;.001). In overall university students' quality of life, a better score was shown in physical health quality of life (Z = -13.98, p &lt;.001) and mental health quality of life (Z = -13.21, p &lt;.001) during CMCO compared to MCO phase. Variance experiences through the COVID-19 pandemic faced by university students during both phases of movement control order and conditional movement control order were noted to have an impact on their quality of life.

Motivational interviewing to promote healthy behaviors for obesity prevention in young adults (MOTIVATE): a pilot randomized controlled trial protocol

BackgroundObesity is a chronic disease and is an established risk factor for other chronic diseases and mortality. Young adulthood is a period when people may be highly amenable to healthy behavior change, develop lifelong healthy behaviors, and when primary prevention of obesity may be feasible. Interventions in early adulthood have the potential for primary or primordial prevention (i.e., preventing risk factors before disease onset). The primary objective of this study is to determine the feasibility of a 6-month behavioral and educational intervention to promote healthy behaviors for obesity prevention among young adults.MethodsThis is the study protocol for a pilot randomized controlled trial. Young adults (age 18–29) attending McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada, will be recruited and randomized to either the intervention or control. The intervention will include individual motivational interviewing sessions (online or in-person) with a trained interviewer plus educational materials (based on Canada’s food guide and physical activity recommendations). The control group will receive educational materials only. The primary feasibility outcomes that will be evaluated as part of this pilot study include enrollment, retention (≥ 80%), data completion (≥ 80% of weights measured, and surveys completed), and participant satisfaction. Secondary clinical outcomes will include body mass index (BMI) change from baseline to 6 months, physical activity, nutrition risk, health-related quality of life mental health, and economic outcomes. Outcomes will be measured remotely using activity trackers, and online questionnaires at baseline and every 2 months. Risk stratification will be applied at baseline to identify participants at high risk of obesity (e.g., due to family or personal history). Exit questionnaires will collect data on how participants felt about the study and cost analysis will be conducted.DiscussionOur pilot randomized controlled trial will evaluate the feasibility of an obesity prevention intervention in early adulthood and will inform future larger studies for obesity prevention. The results of this study have the potential to directly contribute to the primary prevention of several types of cancer by testing an intervention that could be scalable to public health, post-secondary education, or primary care settings.Trial registrationhttps://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT05264740. The studies investigating the impact of infertility on female sexual dysfunction are scarce, but they have consistently demonstrated that sexual complaints are very common among infertile women. Sometimes appropriate treatment of female sexual dysfunction can preclude the use of expensive and unnecessary treatment for infertility. This study will compare sexual dysfunction and quality of life among infertile women and fertile women. Aim of the Work To assess the female sexual function among infertile women and comorbid psychiatric disorders among infertile women. Subjects and method: This is cross sectional study, which was conducted on random sample of 168 infertile females and 167 fertile females, attending outpatient infertile clinic, and the gynaecology outpatient clinic, Ain Shams University hospital, the study started September 2017 until February 2019, all females who fulfil inclusion criteria were subjected to SCID-I, The Arabic version of (FSFI), The Arabic version of PCASEE. Results there was a statistically significant relationship between female sexual dysfunction among infertile group and fertile group, in the infertile group, 123 females (73.2%) of the infertile females did not have mental disorder and 45 females (26.7%) had mental disorder, 19 females (11.3%) of them had anxiety disorder (generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, and panic disorder) and 26 females (15.5%) of them had major depression disorder. Conclusion There is high prevalence of female sexual dysfunction among the infertile female group, and there was strong association between infertility, sexual dysfunction and developing comorbid psychiatric disorder. Further assessments should be considered in the infertility clinic, proper documentation as well. Management should include psychotherapy, lubricants, targeted sexual-therapy and pharmacological treatment. Long-Term Impacts of COVID-19 Pneumonia on Quality of Life: A Single Institutional Pilot Study

Many studies have demonstrated poor quality of life (QoL) at 3, 6, 12, and 24 months after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, these studies were limited due to cross-sectional design, a longer gap between visits, and lack of controls for comparison. Therefore, the aim of our prospective study was to assess the impact of COVID-19 pneumonia on QoL in both physical and mental health. A prospective study was conducted on adult patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. We used the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) and Euro Quality of Life-5 Dimensions-5 Levels (EQ-5D-5L), EQ visual analogue scale (EQ-VAS), and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale to collect data at months, 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12. Thirty-eight patients with COVID-19 pneumonia and twenty-five healthy subjects were completely followed up on all visits. All domains of SF-36, except bodily pain and EQ-5D-5L of the patients, were lower than controls. There was an improvement of EQ-VAS and SF-36 including physical functioning, social functioning, and role limitation (physical problems) domains throughout study period in the COVID-19 pneumonia group. Adult patients who recovered from COVID-19 pneumonia had lower QoL which improved over the one-year follow-up period.

The mediating role of psychological flexibility in the relationship between resilience and distress and quality of life in people with multiple sclerosis.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of psychological flexibility in mediating the beneficial effects of resilience on distress and quality of life (QoL) in people with MS (PwMS). The psychological flexibility framework underpinning acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) was used to conceptualise psychological flexibility. A total of 56 PwMS completed an online survey that assessed global psychological flexibility and each of its six core sub-processes, resilience, distress, mental and physical health QoL, socio-demographics, and illness variables. Mediation analyses showed that, as hypothesised, higher levels of global psychological flexibility and its sub-processes were associated with increases in the positive impacts of resilience on distress and mental and physical health QoL via a mediational mechanism. These findings suggest that psychological flexibility skills build resilience capacities in PwMS. The psychological flexibility framework offers an ACT-based intervention pathway to build resilience and enhance mental health and QoL in PwMS.
