Analysis of the Development Trend and Countermeasures of Internet Hospitals Based on SWOT

<i>Objective</i>: Through the investigation of the development status and background of Internet hospitals, this paper analyzes the internal and external environment and advantages and disadvantages of Internet hospitals, so as to promote their high-quality and sustainable development under the background of the Healthy China strategy. <i>Methods</i>: SWOT analysis was used to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of Internet hospitals, as well as the opportunities and challenges faced by the development, analyze the development trend of Internet hospitals, and put forward countermeasures. <i>Results</i>: Internally, Internet hospitals have the advantages of improving patient medical efficiency and promoting the rational allocation of medical resources; and there are disadvantages of unclear service business positioning and the accuracy of telemedicine diagnosis to be improved; the external environment has the opportunity of national policy support and large demand for patient medical treatment; and there is the threat of low capital investment and the restriction of traditional medical concepts. <i>Conclusions</i>: It is suggested that the state should increase capital investment and policy norms to guide the orderly development of the Internet market, guide residents to change their medical habits, and medical institution managers should fully seize the development opportunities, grasp the development trend of the post-epidemic era, formulate growth strategies, torsion transformation strategies, defense strategies, and diversified strategies according to internal and external environmental factors, improve the construction of Internet hospital system, and help build a "healthy China".

Identifying key items to be addressed by non-clinical operators to manage out-of-hours telephone triage services for older adults seeking non-urgent unplanned care in Belgium: an e-Delphi study

BackgroundThis study aimed to achieve expert consensus regarding key items to be addressed by non-clinical operators using computer-software integrated medical dispatch protocols to manage out-of-hours telephone triage (OOH-TT) services for calls involving older adults seeking non-urgent unplanned care across Belgium.MethodsA three-part classic e-Delphi study was conducted. A purposive sample of experts specialized in out-of-hours unplanned care and/or older persons across Belgium were recruited as panelists. Eligibility criteria included experts with at least 2 years of relevant experience. Level of consensus was defined to be reached when at least 70% of the panelists agreed or disagreed regarding the value of each item proposed within a survey for the top 10 most frequently used protocols for triaging older adults. Responses were analyzed over several rounds until expert consensus was found. Descriptive and thematic analyses were used to aggregate responses.ResultsN = 12 panelists agreed that several important missing protocol topics were not covered by the existing OOH-TT service. They also agreed about the nature of use (for the top 10 most frequently used protocols) but justified that some modifications should be made to keywords, interrogation questions, degree of urgency and/or flowcharts used for the algorithms to help operators gain better comprehensive understanding patient profiles, medical habits and history, level of support from informal caregivers, known comorbidities and frailty status. Furthermore, panelists also stressed the importance of considering feasibility in implementing protocols within the real-world setting and prioritizing the right type of training for operators which can facilitate the delivery of high-quality triage. Overall, consensus was found for nine of the top 10 most frequently used protocols for triaging older adults with no consensus found for the protocol on triaging patients unwell for no apparent reason.ConclusionOur findings show that overall, a combination of patient related factors must be addressed to provide high quality triage for adults seeking non-urgent unplanned care over the telephone (in addition to age). However, further elements such as appropriate operator training and feasibility of implementing more population-specific protocols must also be considered. This study presents a useful step towards identifying key items which must be targeted within the larger scope of providing non-urgent out-of-hours telephone triage services for older adults seeking non-urgent unplanned care.

A quantitative and qualitative analysis of a medication health literacy workshop for newly and recently arrived refugees

AbstractIntroductionRefugees entering the United States are often unfamiliar with the healthcare system and have different medication beliefs. Since 2016, pharmacy students and faculty have been conducting medication literacy workshops to improve knowledge of medications for newly arriving refugees.ObjectivesThe primary study objective was to measure the newly arriving refugees' medication knowledge after a one‐time educational workshop.MethodsThis was a retrospective quantitative and qualitative evaluation. Participants engaged in a student‐led 90‐min educational workshop utilizing interpreters, translated materials, and demonstrations. Topics included medical definitions, information on getting sick, medication use, and label reading. A translated, postworkshop evaluation included 22 questions grouped into the following categories: demographics (n = 4), medication use (n = 7), label reading (n = 6), access (n = 3), and cultural beliefs (n = 2). Three optional, free‐response questions regarding overall workshop feedback were included. Quantitative data was analyzed utilizing descriptive statistics. Thematic analysis was used to analyze qualitative data. Two independent coders reviewed each free‐response question and discussed any discrepancies for consensus. The study team developed key themes based on the codes.ResultsTwenty‐one workshops were conducted with 419 participants from 42 countries. Correct responses were highest for medication beliefs (84%), label reading (78%), access (74%), and medication use (73%). Prescription label reading ability was high (86%), while preventative medicine understanding was lower (34%). Three major learning themes developed, including (1) Cultural differences impact medication habits, (2) Knowing provider roles and how to access different services in healthcare settings was important, and (3) Understanding how to read a label was useful. Researchers found that demonstrations were helpful in participants' learning and that additional education on prevention and specific disease states would be useful.ConclusionNewly and recently arrived refugees were able to correctly identify basic medication health information through a medication literacy workshop. Additional classes exploring other topics, including preventative medicine and medications, should be considered.

The Effect of Comprehensive Tele-Education in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of remote education given via telehealth to individuals diagnosed with Type 2
 diabetes on exercise goals, physical activity, nutrition, medication habits and diabetes problems.
 Material and Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted with a total of 30 patients with diabetes mellitus (15 tele-education,
 15 routine education). Individuals were educated about general information about diabetes, nutrition therapy, exercise, physical activity,
 drug therapy, and acute/chronic complications. Participants were evaluated with the Mini Nutritional Assessment, International Physical
 Activity Questionnaire, Goal Orientation in Exercise Measurement, Modified Morisky Medication Adherence Scale and Problem Areas
 in Diabetes Scale.
 Results: In terms of MNA scores, only the decrease in the score of routine rehabilitation was significant (p=0.041). The MNA score did
 not differ between the tele-education and routine rehabilitation groups (p>0.05). Finally, the education program did not affect the other
 scores (p>0.05).
 Conclusion: The study results showed that tele-education can only positively affect nutrition. However, both tele-education and routine
 training provided similar and ineffective results. Future studies could focus on remote education programs delivered through different
 educational methods.

PDD-ET: Parkinson’s Disease Detection Using ML Ensemble Techniques and Customized Big Dataset

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurological disorder affecting the nerve cells. PD gives rise to various neurological conditions, including gradual reduction in movement speed, tremors, limb stiffness, and alterations in walking patterns. Identifying Parkinson’s disease in its initial phases is crucial to preserving the well-being of those afflicted. However, accurately identifying PD in its early phases is intricate due to the aging population. Therefore, in this paper, we harnessed machine learning-based ensemble methodologies and focused on the premotor stage of PD to create a precise and reliable early-stage PD detection model named PDD-ET. We compiled a tailored, extensive dataset encompassing patient mobility, medication habits, prior medical history, rigidity, gender, and age group. The PDD-ET model amalgamates the outcomes of various ML techniques, resulting in an impressive 97.52% accuracy in early-stage PD detection. Furthermore, the PDD-ET model effectively distinguishes between multiple stages of PD and accurately categorizes the severity levels of patients affected by PD. The evaluation findings demonstrate that the PDD-ET model outperforms the SVR, CNN, Stacked LSTM, LSTM, GRU, Alex Net, [Decision Tree, RF, and SVR], Deep Neural Network, HOG, Quantum ReLU Activator, Improved KNN, Adaptive Boosting, RF, and Deep Learning Model techniques by the approximate margins of 37%, 30%, 20%, 27%, 25%, 18%, 19%, 27%, 25%, 23%, 45%, 40%, 42%, and 16%, respectively.

Research progress on the treatment of epilepsy with traditional Chinese medicine

BackgroundTraditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) system is a medical system that has been expanding for thousands of years that was formed by the extensive clinical practice experience of many physicians and the accumulation of personal medication habits in China. In TCM, there is a history of long-term medication for epilepsy, the main treatment for epilepsy is TCM drugs and its prescription, supplemented by TCM modalities such as acupuncture therapy, moxibustion therapy, tuina, emotion adjustment therapy, etc. PurposeWith the modernization of TCM, the active ingredients and molecular mechanisms of TCM for epilepsy treatment have been gradually revealed. This review aimed to comprehensively summarize the TCM treatment of epilepsy, focusing on the current TCM drugs and some TCM formulae for the treatment of epilepsy, and to discuss the research progress of TCM for the treatment of epilepsy, and to provide a reference to develop future related studies in this field. Materials and methodsThe mechanism of action of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) was interpreted from different perspectives by searching online databases and querying various materials identify drugs used in both modern medicine and TCM systems for the treatment of epilepsy. We collected all relevant TCM for epilepsy literature published in the last 30 years up to December 2022 from electronic databases such as PubMed, CNKI and Web of Science, and statistically analyzed the literature for the following keyword information. The search terms comprise the keywords “TCM”, “phytochemistry”, “pharmacological activity”, “epilepsy” and “traditional application” as a combination. Scientific plant names were provided by “The Plant List” (www.theplantlist.org). ResultsEpilepsy is a complex and serious disease of the brain and nervous system. At present, the treatment of epilepsy in modern medicine is mainly surgery and chemotherapy, but there are many serious side effects. By summarizing the treatment of epilepsy in TCM, it is found that there are various methods to treat epilepsy in TCM, mainly TCM drugs and its formulae. Many TCM drugs have antiepileptic effects. Now found that the main effective TCM drugs for the treatment of epilepsy are Curcumae Longae Rhizoma, Scorpio, Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, Uncariae Ramulus Cum Uncis and Ganoderma, etc. And the main compounds that play a role in the treatment of epilepsy are curcumin, gastrodin, ligustrazine, baicalin and rhynchophylline, etc. These TCM drugs have played an important role in the treatment of epilepsy in TCM clinic. However, the chemically active components of these TCM drugs are diverse and their mechanisms of action are complex, which are not fully understood and need to be further explored. ConclusionsTCM treats epilepsy in a variety of ways, and with the discovery of a variety of potential bioactive substances for treatment of epilepsy. With the new progress in the research of other TCM treatment methods for epilepsy, TCM will have greater potential in the clinical application of epilepsy.

Effects of long-term regular oral aspirin combined with atorvastatin to prevent ischemic stroke on human gut microbiota

PurposeEvery year, there is a large number of people take aspirin and atorvastatin to prevent ischemic stroke, but the effect of these drugs on gut microbiota remains unknown. We aimed to examine the effects of long-term regular oral aspirin with atorvastatin to prevent ischemic stroke on human gut microbiota. MethodsA cross-sectional study of 20 participants with the drugs over one year and the other 20 gender- and age-matching participants without medication were recruited from the Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University. The medication habits and dietary information were obtained using a questionnaire. Fecal samples collected from all participants were subjected to 16S rRNA sequencing of the microbiome. The datasets were analyzed using bioinformatics approaches. ResultsThe Alpha diversity showed that compared with controls, medication participants had lower ACE and Chao1 index, while no difference in the Shannon index and Simpson index. The Beta diversity analysis revealed significant shifts in the taxonomic compositions of the two groups. Linear discriminant analysis effect size (LEfSe) analysis combined with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves revealed the marker bacteria associated with taking medication were g_Parabacteroides（AUC = 0.855）, g_Bifidobacterium（AUC = 0.815）, s_Bifidobacterium_longum_subsp（AUC = 0.8075）, and with no taking medication was g_Prevotella_9（AUC = 0.76）. ConclusionsOur findings indicated that long-term regular oral aspirin and atorvastatin modulate the human gut microbiota. Taking these drugs may affect the preventive effect of ischemic stroke by changing the abundance of specific gut microbiota.

Evidence in obesity research: translating them in clinical practice and public health strategies.

Obesity is a complex disease due to the interaction between genetic, psychological, and environmental determinants. Sadly, implementing into practice research results is frequently difficult. Many are the obstacles: medical habits, the peculiar organization of the National health service centred on acute diseases treatment, the prevalent narrative of obesity as an aesthetic issue rather than a medical one. Obesity should be considered a chronic diseases, and should be taken into account in the National plan for Chronic Care. Than, specific implementation programmes would be planned, aimed to disseminate knwoledge and skills among the health professionals, fostering multidisciplinarity through continuing medical education of specialized teams.

Patients' attitudes towards switching to national volume-based procurement (NVBP) Drugs—a qualitative investigation in Wuhan, China

BackgroundThe implementation of the NVBP policy has generated considerable reductions in drug procurement prices and an increase in the market share of the NVBP drugs.This study aimed to investigate patients' attitudes towards switching to drugs of national volume-based procurement (NVBP) and identify their underlying influencing factors in Wuhan, China.MethodsA total of 21 eligible patients from the Wuhan Union Hospital who were switched to NVBP drugs between January 2022 and May 2022 were included in our study. Semi-structured face-to-face interviews were conducted to collect interview information and the interview data was analyzed by the Colaizzi seven-step method.ResultsTwenty-one semi-structured face-to-face interviews were conducted. The duration of each interview was 25–35 min and three themes related to patients' attitudes and their influencing factors were extracted, including (1) Patients' perception of the NVBP drugs; (2) Family and social influence to patients; (3) Medication habits of patients. This study found: 1) 71.4% patients (15/21) showed a positive attitude towards switching to NVBP medicines; 2)80.9% patients (17/21) have felt a significant reduction in their medication cost after the implementation of the NVBP policy; 3)Advices from healthcare professionals and health insurance reimbursement policies showed great impacts on patients' attitude towards switching to NVBP drugs; 4)Attitudes towards switching to NVBP drugs varied considerably among patients with different severities of disease.ConclusionThe implementation of the NVBP policy has significantly reduced the cost of healthcare for patients and has been supported by71.4% (15 of 21) patients. However, some issues have been identified in the implementation of the policy in this study. Health professionals in general need to contribute more efforts to improve patients' preconceptions about the NVBP drugs and boost their confidence in the NVBP drugs.

Governance mechanisms for chronic disease diagnosis and treatment systems in the post-pandemic era.

"Re-visits and drug renewal" is difficult for chronic disease patients during COVID-19 and will continue in the post-pandemic era. To overcome this dilemma, the scenario of chronic disease diagnosis and treatment systems was set, and an evolutionary game model participated by four stakeholder groups including physical medical institutions, medical service platforms, intelligent medical device providers, and chronic disease patients, was established. Ten possible evolutionary stabilization strategies (ESSs) with their mandatory conditions were found based on Lyapunov's first method. Taking cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, the top 1 prevalent chronic disease, as a specific case context, and resorting to the MATLAB simulation, it is confirmed that several dual ESSs and four unique ESS circumstances exist, respectively, and the evolution direction is determined by initial conditions, while the evolution speed is determined by the values of the conditions based on the quantitative relations of benefits, costs, etc. Accordingly, four governance mechanisms were proposed. By their adjustment, the conditions along with their values can be interfered, and then the chronic disease diagnosis and treatment systems can be guided toward the desired direction, that is, toward the direction of countermeasure against the pandemic, government guidance, global trends of medical industry development, social welfare, and lifestyle innovation. The dilemma of "Re-visits and drug renewal" actually reflects the uneven distribution problem of qualified medical resources and the poor impact resistance capability of social medical service systems under mass public emergency. Human lifestyle even the way of working all over the world will get a spiral upgrade after experiencing COVID-19, such as consumption, and meeting, while medical habits react not so rapidly, especially for mid or aged chronic disease patients. We believe that telemedicine empowered by intelligent medical devices can benefit them and will be a global trend, governments and the four key stakeholders should act according to the governance mechanisms suggested here simultaneously toward novel social medical ecosystems for the post-pandemic era.

Medication habits among persons with multiple sclerosis

BackgroundThough habitual behavior is part of medication-taking behavior, studies of adherence to medication among persons with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis (PwRRMS) have not prospectively examined habit in relation to disease-modifying treatments (DMTs). Objectives1. Examine habit dimensions - repetition, lack of awareness, and lack of control - across time and route of administration (oral vs. injectable). 2. Examine the association (prospective and cross sectional) of the dimension of repetition and the habit index with adherence and persistence in medication taking and to medication perceptions. MethodsPwMS (n = 140), in their first year of treatment with a DMT, were prospectively assessed at three time points: at baseline, 6 months later (Time 1), and 12 months later (Time 2). Clinical and demographic information were obtained in-person, as were patient-reported medication habits and medication perceptions. Adherence and persistence were assessed with a combination of self-reporting and retrospective review of medication claims. ResultsRepeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA), with dimension as the within-subject factor at each time point, indicated that the repetition dimensions at all points were significantly higher than lack of awareness and lack of control dimensions. Repeated measures ANOVA, with time as the within-subject factor and route of administration as between-subject factor, yielded a significant time effect in repetition and lack of awareness dimensions so that they increased across time but not in lack of control; administration route effects were found to be nonsignificant in all dimensions. Repetition at Time 1 was positively associated with patient-reported adherence at this time point (rs = 0.33, p = 0.002) but this was not consistently found at other time points . Likewise, reported repetition at Time 1 was higher among PwRMS who persisted with their medication a year later than among those who did not persist. Perceptions of medication (concern, harm, and overtreatment) were significantly negatively associated with reported repetition. ConclusionsOver time, PwRMS reported an increase in two habit dimensions, repetition and lack of awareness, in medication taking. No significant differences in habit by administration modality were found. The habit dimension of repetition was significantly associated with perceptions of medication, adherence, and prospectively predicted persistence. However, the low values obtained for lack of awareness and lack of control, compared with the higher levels of repetition, indicate that the habit is not well ingrained. Hence, intervention to target habit formation and maintenance, to be tailored to the individual, are a promising venue for enhancing medication adherence and improving disease outcomes.

Occurrence and risk assessment of five kinds of antimicrobial in mattress on swine farm use ectopic fermentation systems in Zhejiang Province.

Mattress is among the main products of ectopic fermentation system (EFS); however, the research on the data of antimicrobial residues in the mattress of EFS and risk assessments of mattress have not been conducted. This study involved a scale survey to assess the levels and distributions of 54 antimicrobial residues, including 4 tetracyclines, 19 quinolones, 22 sulfonamides, 3 amphenicols, and 6 macrolides in mattress on 12 swine farms that use ectopic fermentation systems (EFS) in Zhejiang Province. A total of 25 antimicrobials were detected in mattress, and the total residue amount of antimicrobial in mattress samples of each farm was 0.77-28.2g/T. Chlortetracycline had the highest contribution rate, and the residue amount of antimicrobial in mattress is not entirely determined by the start-up time of EFS but is related to the use of feed containing antimicrobial, medication habits, the level of mattress management, and maintenance methods of EFS. The risk assessments of antimicrobial in the mattress were carried out. The results show that the risk of using mattress of EFS for soil is low.

Self-medication practices and their characteristics among Iranian university students

BackgroundSelf-medication in students, as educated people, is one of the most important health issues. It is known that inappropriate self-medication is harmful for individuals as it has potential risks, disrupts the drug market and increases the per capita financial drug consumption. Thus, the aim of this study is to investigate the habits related to drug use and the prevalence of self-medication practices among university students.MethodsThis cross-sectional study was conducted in 2021 at Jahrom universities/Iran, using an electronic “self-medication practices and medication habits” questionnaire. A total of 848 students from four healthcare and non-healthcare universities participated in the study.ResultsThe prevalence of self-medication among students was 44.8%. The most common medicines used for self-medication included cold remedies and sedatives that were used by 33% of the students. About 47% of students stated that they have used antibiotics without a physician’s prescription. The internet and social networks were the source of information on self-medication in about 40% of students. There was no significant difference in self-medication between medical and non-medical students (OR = 0.865, 95% CI: 0.659–1.134). Self-medication in students with underlying disease was higher than students without underlying disease (OR = 2.8, 95% CI: 1.39–5.60).ConclusionsSelf-medication had a high prevalence among students. The best strategy to reduce or eliminate self-medication is to raise students’ awareness and knowledge about potential risk of self-medication practices.

Highly educated patients have lower dental compliance during the COVID-19 pandemic: an observational study

BackgroundThe outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is rapidly changed medical habits, and dental clinics have been forced to adapt. This study explored the pandemic-induced changes in patient utilization of dental services to assist practitioners in responding efficiently to similar public crises as references in the future.MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed the correlation between patient profiles and dental visits attendance within 2 months before and during the outbreak.ResultsA total of 332 patients, 210 women and 122 men (total number of visits: 1068) were enrolled in this study. A significantly lower attendance rate was noted during the COVID-19 period (70.3%) than prior to the pandemic (83.4%). The rate of return visits for patients with a high education level during the COVID-19 period was significantly reduced from 96.5 to 93.1%. In addition, the number of days between two visits significantly increased during the pandemic.ConclusionsOur results indicate that, during the pandemic period, the attendance rates of return dental appointments decreased, and the rate of missed appointments for patients with a high educational levels was higher than that of patients with a low educational level.Clinical relevancePreventive management of these patients who are easy to miss dental appointments may enable more effective use of medical resources.

Health Care Accessibility Analysis Considering Behavioral Preferences for Hospital Choice

Research on the potential accessibility of medical services has made great progress, but there is a large gap between the analysis results and the actual feelings of residents. With the refinement of urban management, the need for actual accessibility calculations reflecting the current status of medical service levels is becoming stronger. In modern society, as people work and live at an increasingly fast pace, people increasingly focus on time saving. However, in addition to travel time and distance, personal perceptions of medical facilities and access habits also influence residents’ choice of specific hospitals for medical treatment. With the combined effect of these factors, the actual status of accessibility of medical facility services is formed. In order to improve estimates of the actual accessibility and narrow the gap with residents’ subjective perceptions, this study leverages realistic data, such as real-time navigation prediction data that approximates residents’ actual travel time to hospitals and information on residents’ subjective behaviors in choosing specific hospitals for medical treatment. Finally, a new approach is proposed to further improve the existing Gaussian two-step floating catchment area (Ga2SFCA) method by fully respecting the important effects of distance cost and time cost, and combining them by using a weighted mean.

Reducing Medication Problems among Minority Individuals with Low Socioeconomic Status through Pharmacist Home Visits.

Introduction: In this study, pharmacists conducted home visits for individuals of medically underserved populations in Taiwan (i.e., socioeconomically disadvantaged individuals, middle-aged or older adults, and individuals living alone, with dementia, or with disabilities) to understand their medication habits. We quantified medication problems among various groups and investigated whether the pharmacist home visits helped to reduce the medication problems. Materials and Methods: From April 2016 to March 2019, pharmacists visited the homes of the aforementioned medically underserved individuals in Taipei to evaluate their drug-related problems and medication problems. Age, living alone, diagnoses of dementia or disabilities, and socioeconomic disadvantages contributed significantly to inadequate disease and medical treatment knowledge and self-care skills as well as lifestyle inappropriateness among patients. The patients who were living alone and socioeconomically disadvantaged stored their drugs in inappropriate environments. Results: After the pharmacists visited the patients’ homes twice, the patients improved considerably in their disease and medical treatment knowledge, self-care skills, and lifestyles (p < 0.001). Problems related to the uninstructed reduction or discontinuation of drug use (p < 0.05) and use of expired drugs (p < 0.001) were also mitigated substantially. Discussion and conclusion: Through the home visits, the pharmacists came to fully understand the medicine (including Chinese medicine) and health food usage behaviors of the patients and their lifestyles, enabling them to provide thorough health education. After the pharmacists’ home visits, the patients’ drug-related problems were mitigated, and their knowledge of diseases, drug compliance, and drug storage methods and environments improved, reducing drug waste. Our findings can help policymakers address the medication problems of various medically underserved groups, thereby improving the utilization of limited medical resources.

Factors Influencing Pain Management of Patients with Osteoarthritis: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a complex disease associated with chronic pain. Many patients treat their joint pain at a symptomatic level with over-the-counter (OTC) pain medications, often without the knowledge of their physicians. The aim of this study was to provide physicians with data about osteoarthritic patients’ habits of pain management and to examine the explanatory factors of various ways of self-treatment. Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 189 patients with hip or knee OA and scheduled for joint replacement surgery was carried out. Participants filled out a self-administered questionnaire consisting of the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index and questions about their methods of alleviating pain. Results: 2.6% of patients did not use anything to alleviate their pain, while 63% practiced a non-pharmacological method. Diclofenac was the most frequently used drug, followed by ibuprofen. Profession had the greatest impact on medication habits; patients doing manual work were significantly more likely to take OTC non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and use topical analgesics. Conclusions: Patients utilized a wide variety of pain management techniques. They seemed to use well-known painkillers, even if their side effects were less desirable. Such patients require comprehensive pain management, including educational and behavioural interventions, complemented by topical and oral medication.

Attitudes and Willingness to Accept Long-Acting Injections for Patients With Schizophrenia in Beijing: A Cross-Sectional Investigation Based on Samples From the Communities.

Background: Schizophrenia has brought a serious disease burden to China. Under the background that community rehabilitation has become the mainstream treatment model, the long-acting injection (LAI) can better prevent recurrence. Some districts in Beijing have also issued policies. This article aims to find out patient's current attitudes toward LAI and provide policy suggestions.Methods: Some patients with schizophrenia in the communities are selected, while the survey format is face-to-face conversation. The content of the self-made questionnaire includes patients' willingness and reasons for accepting LAI treatment. Descriptive statistics, t-test and F-test are used to process the data from questionnaire surveys.Results: About 10% of respondents have had experience using LAI and the current utilization rate is 2.4%. Respondents' willingness to accept LAI is generally low (only 18.1% are willing). The main reason for willingness is no need to take medication every day, while the main reasons for unwillingness are high cost, fear of injection and lack of understanding.Conclusion: Beijing community patients are not very optimistic about LAI's cognition and willingness. Medication habits play an important role in their medication selection decisions. Intervention such as educate clinicians and patients about LAI and provide free injections to patients can be imposed. The promotion of LAI still has a long way to go.

A Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice Survey on Medication Safety in Korean Older Adults: An Analysis of an Ageing Society.

Background: Older adults have certain limitations in acquiring and understanding information regarding medication safety. This study surveyed their medication habits and analysed the importance of relevant education to improve knowledge, attitudes, and practice (KAP). Methods: Our survey included adults aged 65 years or older. We developed a questionnaire on medication safety based on the KAP model. To identify the interrelationships among KAP, we calculated the correlation coefficients using Pearson’s correlation analysis. A t-test was performed to verify the differences in KAP associated with the respondents’ medication safety education experience. Results: We found that 79.4% of respondents self-administered their medications. Of the respondents, 28.2% had received medication safety education. Overall, the respondents had typical levels of knowledge, attitude responses, and behavioural practices associated with medication safety. The results showed significant differences between knowledge and practice; those who were educated on medication safety performed higher levels of safe practice than those who were not (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The KAP survey confirmed that knowledge about the safe use of medication positively affected older adults’ attitudes and practices. To improve their medication usage habits, older adults should receive well-organised medication safety education.

Factors Affecting Customer Intention to Adopt a Mobile Chronic Disease Management Service

The Mobile Chronic Disease Management Service (MCDMS) is an emerging medical service for chronic disease prevention and treatment, but limited attention has been paid to the factors that affect users’ intention to adopt the service. Based on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology 2 and the protection motivation theory, the authors built an MCDMS adoption model. The authors also verified the differentiating age effect on the service adoption intention from experiential distance perspective of the construal level theory. Empirical results showed that the young group focused more on the impact of effort expectancy, whereas the elderly group focused more on performance expectancy, imitating others, and perceived severity. Furthermore, the young group, however, focused more on the impact of perceived vulnerability, and offline medical habits showed no significant influence on either group’s intention to adopt, which were not consistent with the original hypotheses. The findings can aid MCDMS providers in selecting marketing strategies targeted toward different age groups.
