Functional and Clinical outcomes of total hip replacement surgery via Lateral approach

Background: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a critical surgical intervention for patients with severe hip dysfunction primarily due to conditions such as osteoarthritis, trauma, and other degenerative diseases. The choice of surgical approach can significantly influence the outcomes of the procedure, including postoperative recovery, pain management, and functional mobility. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the clinical and functional outcomes of the lateral approach in total hip replacement, comparing its efficacy and safety with other surgical techniques. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted at a single medical teaching institution, involving 74 patients who underwent total hip replacement using the lateral approach between January 2022 and December 2023. Data were collected on patient demographics, surgical details, and postoperative outcomes. Key measures included the Harris Hip Score (HHS), rates of postoperative pain, limb length discrepancy (LLD), and complications such as dislocation and infection. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, version 25, with a significance threshold set at P < 0.05. Results: The study population had an equal distribution of male and female patients, with an average age of 57.20 years (SD ± 14.68). Trauma was the most common indication for surgery (67.6%), followed by osteoarthritis (18.9%) and avascular necrosis (9.5%). Postoperative evaluation showed that 62.26% of patients achieved an 'excellent' HHS at two weeks, while 28.38% were rated as 'good'. The overall complication rate was low, with dislocation occurring in 4.1% of cases. Pain was reported in 12.2% of patients post-surgery. Conclusion: The lateral approach for total hip arthroplasty provides effective pain relief and functional recovery with a low complication rate. This study supports the continued use of the lateral approach as a viable option for hip replacement surgery, showing comparable or superior outcomes to other surgical approaches.

UTILIZING DIGITAL COMPETENCES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT POTENTIAL IN HIGHER MEDICAL EDUCATION STUDENTS

Introduction. Building a robust healthcare system aimed at improving overall population health and a reliable electronic health system requires a corresponding level of proficiency in digital competences (DC) among future healthcare professionals. The relevance of this research lies in the understanding that the effective execution of medical and managerial responsibilities is impossible without an adequate level of DC, and mastering them must occur during the education of future healthcare professionals. The aim. To investigate the levels of proficiency in DC and the understanding of their importance among students enrolled in institutions of higher medical education (IHME) for the development of leadership and management potential during the educational process of future healthcare professionals. Materials and methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 265 students (1st-6th years) at Dnipro State Medical University. Bibliosemantic and sociological methods were used. Students were grouped by academic year: junior (1-2), middle (3-4), and senior (5-6). Results were analyzed using widely accepted statistical approaches and the integrated development environment Jupyter Notebook (https://jupyter.org/install). A significance level of p<0.05 was considered statistically significant for all hypotheses. Results. According to the obtained data all students, regardless of their academic year, understand the importance of studying digital competences. On average, the overall importance level for all DC was 6.99 (95% CI 6.72-7.26) on a ten-point scale. Proficiency in DC significantly (p=0.002) varied depending on the academic year, with seniors scoring higher than middle (in all aspects) and junior students (for most aspects). No significant differences were found between the proficiency levels of junior and middle students (p>0.05). Proficiency in general DC was significantly higher compared to special medical and cybersecurity DC, both within each group and for all respondents. More than 80% of respondents stated that mastering DC is important for performing managerial functions, with no differences between groups (p>0.05). Conclusions. Present-day healthcare professionals require a proper level of proficiency in DC. The study demonstrates that students' motivation to learn DC is more than sufficient, but proficiency in special medical and cybersecurity DC needs improvement. The majority of respondents consider mastering DC an integral element in the formation of health-oriented leadership and effective management in healthcare. Mastering of DC should occur systematically with active involvement of IHME in the process.

Vaccination as a protective factor for medical workers during the COVID-19 pandemic

Aim – to evaluate the effectiveness of vaccination when using various vaccines against COVID-19 approved for use in Russia among medical staff and faculty of medical higher educational institutions according to online questionnaires. Material and methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted online from January to March 2022 (circulation period of the omicron genovariant). The survey was completed by 6032 respondents, 2114 respondents were excluded from the study. The remaining 3918 respondents were included in the the analysis. Results. 47 (0.1%) medical workers reported COVID-19 incidence within 21 days after the second dose of the vaccine. 616 (16.8%) medical workers reported COVID-19 incidence within 5 months after two vaccinations. 116 (46.4%) unvaccinated respondents reported a laboratory-confirmed new coronavirus infection within 5 months prior to the survey. Lack of vaccination increased the risk of SARS-CoV-2, OR 1.78 ± 0.14 (95% CI 1.34-2.36). It was found that gender and age were not a risk factor for the onset of the disease in the post-vaccination period. The presence of SARS-CoV-2 in medical history increased the risk of developing the disease in the post-vaccination period. Conclusion. The analysis revealed that vaccination had significantly higher protection effect for 1.5 months after vaccination and significantly reduced in 5 months after vaccination.

ОПЫТ РЕАЛИЗАЦИИ ПИЛОТНОГО ПРОЕКТА «ГРОДНЕНСКАЯ УНИВЕРСИТЕТСКАЯ КЛИНИКА» В АСПЕКТЕ ЭФФЕКТИВНОСТИ ПРАКТИКООРИЕНТИРОВАННОЙ ПОДГОТОВКИ МЕДИЦИНСКИХ КАДРОВ

The training of highly professional medical staff with minimal need in their further workplace adjustment is an important current problem facing health care and medical higher education institutions authorities. To a large extent, existing clinical healthcare organizations, which are an example of cooperative relationships are serving this purpose. At the same time, the existing practice of their functioning indicates an insufficient degree of integration of the academic environment and practical healthcare. The purpose of this publication is to summarize the experience of the pilot project “Grodno University Clinic” implementation regarding the efficiency of practice-oriented training of medical staff. The integration of academic medicine and practical healthcare in a university clinic allows solving a number of important problems. Maximum involvement of teaching staff in medical activities allows maintaining and improvement of their professional competencies. The logical consequence of this process is the improvement of the quality of practice-oriented undergraduate and postgraduate training of medical specialists. Participation of the students in the diagnostic and treatment process as both active observers and direct participants to an even greater extent contributes to a quality learning experience and a conscious approach to choosing their future specialization.

여성 의학교육기관의 설립과 운영(1928-1945): 한국 ‘여성 의학’ 교육제도의 출발과 현대 의학교육의 모태(母胎) 형성

Focusing on individuals who played key roles in the Joseon Woman’s Medical Training Institute and Gyeongseong Woman’s Medical College, this study examines the establishment and operation of Korean women’s medical education institutions. Existing research has not sufficiently explored the women’s medical education-related activities and impacts of Korean doctors and prominent figures from the founding of the Joseon Woman’s Medical Training Institute to the establishment and operation of Gyeongseong Woman’s Medical College. To fill this gap in the literature, this study analyzes the changes in instructors and faculty responsible for women’s medical education, as well as the ongoing efforts of Korean doctors and influential figures who helped initiate and institutionalize women’s medical education in order to understand its significance. The investigation confirms that in 1928, Rosetta Sherwood Hall, along with Korean doctors and prominent individuals, established the Joseon Woman’s Medical Training Institute. The movement to establish a women’s medical school reignited Korean society’s interest in the ideals of women's medical education, leading to the establishment of Gyeongseong Woman’s Medical College in 1938. Additionally, Korean doctors overseeing women’s medical education from the Joseon Woman’s Medical Training Institute and Gyeongseong Woman’s Medical College committed to continually training female doctors. Following liberation in 1945, many of these instructors and faculty members became professors at National Medical Schools. Ultimately, the activities of Korean doctors and prominent individuals catalyzed Korean women's medical education during the colonial period. After liberation, these individuals contributed to the development of modern Korean medical education.

Implementation of telemedicine as a medical practice in the undergraduate curriculum

Our study aimed to develop a project to implement telemedicine, using the ProntLife platform, in the clinical and internship cycles of the undergraduate Medicine course at two institutions in the Inspirali group, UNIBH and FASEH, with UNIBH located in Belo Horizonte ( BH), and FASEH in Vespasiano, metropolitan region of BH, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Methodologically, the study is descriptive, qualitative and quantitative. The data taken from ProntLife were treated through content analysis, thematic modality. Furthermore, a literature review was carried out using the PUBMED, LILACS and SCIELO databases. We demonstrate the importance of using telemedicine in simulated practical activities and in the outpatient clinics of Medicine courses, where the positive effects on the training of undergraduates can be assessed, both in skills and competencies, as well as providing vulnerable groups with greater access to health care. It is worth noting that all the positive points reported impact the health services that partner with medical teaching institutions.

Receiving a donation call to dissection tables: various aspects of whole-body donation in northern union territory region medical college of India.

Body donation is the act of giving one's body to science for study, practice, and research. This selfless act contributed to the education and training of professionals in the field of medicine. Body donation programs allow medical students to learn about the different aspects of human anatomy, perfect their dissection skills, and develop a better understanding of the relationship between structure and function in the human body. The purpose of article is to improve body donation programs which meet ethical standards and best practices. This article emphasizes the significance of body donation to teaching medical institutions by discussing various aspects of body donation to medical colleges in India and the procedural steps followed, sample proformas and the obstacles faced during the whole process. The process of body donation varies among different countries pertaining to their legal frameworks and the challenges faced. A description of the problems faced in the process of body donation has been discussed with suggestions for potential solutions in this section. The sample formats of the forms filled by donors and the certificates issued by concerned organizations are also provided to clearly understand the process of body donation. The information compiled will pave the way for medical teaching institutions that have yet to start a body donation program.

IJCM_343A: Mindful Beginnings: Evaluating the Effects of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction on Mental Health and Academic Performance in First-Year Medical Students- A Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: The demanding nature of medical education poses unique challenges to the mental health and academic performance of first-year medical students. The transition into the rigorous medical curriculum, coupled with the high-stakes environment of healthcare, often leads to increased stress levels and potential negative impacts on well-being. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) has emerged as a promising intervention to address these challenges. Objective: To evaluate the effect of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction on the Mental health and Academic performance of first-year medical students in a teaching medical institute by randomized controlled trial (RCT) Methodology: An RCT was conducted from May 2023 to July 2023, involving first-year medical students in a self-financing medical college. A total of 227 students participated, randomly assigned to either the intervention group, which underwent an eight-week MBSR program incorporating mindfulness meditation and stress reduction techniques, or the control group, receiving conventional medical education without mindfulness training. Data collection for both pre-and post-tests utilized a comprehensive questionnaire-based interview, incorporating validated instruments such as the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS). The collected data will be analyzed using SPSS version 26. Descriptive and Inferential statistics will be applied to compare outcomes between the intervention and control groups, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. Results: A total of 227 students participated, with 110 in the control arm and 117 in the intervention arm. Further data analysis is currently in progress and will be presented during the upcoming presentation. Conclusion: Stress is prevalent in medical students and has adverse effects on students mental health. Mindfulness practice has wide-ranging positive effects and would be beneficial as a stress reduction and preventative mental health intervention.

SYSTEM OF STATE REGULATION OF PROFESSIONAL TRAINING OF MANAGING STAFF OF HIGHER MEDICAL EDUCATION IN UKRAINE

The article addresses the topical issue of public administration of professional training for higher medical education management personnel in Ukraine. It explores the current state and development prospects of the training system for managers of higher medical education institutions, and identifies priority areas for its improvement. The relevance of the research is determined by the need to provide the Ukrainian healthcare system with highly qualified managers capable of effectively managing higher medical education institutions in the context of dynamic changes and integration into the European and world educational and scientific space. The article defines the main approaches and mechanisms for implementing state policy in the field of healthcare and higher medical education. It identifies the directions for improving the organizational, legal, and economic mechanisms of state regulation of professional training for management personnel of higher medical institutions in Ukraine in terms of clarifying the content of the key research concepts "management personnel of higher medical education institutions" and "state administration of professional training for management personnel of higher medical education institutions". It is determined that the reforming and development of the healthcare and higher medical education sector of Ukraine in the context of integration into the European and world educational and scientific space requires the preparation of a new generation of managers - healthcare managers. It is determined that this category of managers includes vice-rectors and heads of relevant scientific, educational-methodological and educational commissions, deans and vice-deans of faculties, heads of departments and other structural units. The formation of a comprehensive mechanism of state administration of professional training for management personnel of higher medical education institutions should be carried out on the basis of such principles as scientific justification, legality, common interests and values, consistency, comprehensiveness, systematicity, subsidiarity, transparency, innovation, adequacy, efficiency, and responsibility. The article analyzes the features of the system of state administration of professional training for management personnel of higher medical education institutions in Ukraine and abroad. Based on a comparative analysis of management training systems in 6 developed countries of the world, it is proved that the system of professional training and advanced training of management personnel of higher medical education institutions should function in accordance with the current trends in the healthcare sector and the field of higher medical education, comply with the implementation of state policy principles, and be systematic. Statistical analysis of the dynamic changes in the indicators of provision with higher medical education institutions and medical institutions over the years of Ukraine's independence demonstrates the need for joint coordination and cooperation to coordinate the efficiency of the healthcare system. Thus, the article reveals the essence and features of state administration of professional training for management personnel of higher medical institutions, analyzes the regulatory framework governing this area, and identifies the main areas for improving the training system for managers of higher medical education institutions, namely: Updating the content and forms of training; Introduction of innovative teaching methods; Improvement of teachers' qualification; Strengthening the practical focus of training; Development of international cooperation.

War and education: the attacks on medical schools amidst ongoing armed conflict, Sudan 2023

BackgroundWar results in widespread destruction of a country’s infrastructure, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions. This study aims to assess the attacks on medical schools amidst the ongoing conflict in Sudan.MethodsA descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted across 58 medical schools located in the states of Khartoum, Darfur, and Kordofan. Data on attacks between April 15, 2023, and July 15th 2023, were collected using online data collection form.ResultsAll medical schools in conflict areas were included in the study. More than half (58.6%) of these medical schools were attacked. Private schools, constituting the majority of the study sample, were the most frequently attacked (70.6%). Of these, 52.9% were located in Khartoum city. More than one form of attack was reported in 64.7% of the affected schools. Looting occurred in 73.5% of the attacked faculties, while 67.6% of them were converted into military bases. Despite these challenges, 60.3% of the schools in the conflict zone managed to restore the educational process through online learning and collaboration with other institutions.ConclusionDuring a three-month period of warfare, most medical schools within conflict zones were attacked. This emphasizes the vulnerability of medical education institutions during war and highlights the urgent need of the Ministry of Higher Education interventions to provide leadership, support, and oversight for the educational process in medical schools across the country.

FREQUENCY OF CYSTOID MACULAR EDEMA ON OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY IN TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF CATARACT SURGERY

Cystoid macular edema (CME), also known as Irvine-Gass syndrome, has been recognized as a non-specific manifestation of various ocular conditions, with cataract surgery being a significant contributing factor. First reported by Sir Irvine in 1953 and further discussed by Sir Norton in 1966, CME following cataract surgery remains a topic of interest and concern in ophthalmology. The precise etiology of CME in post-cataract surgery patients remains elusive; however, it is widely accepted that post-surgical inflammation plays a pivotal role. To address this issue, we conducted a comparative study to assess the frequency of CME using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in patients undergoing extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) versus phacoemulsification cataract surgeries. The study was conducted at the Department of Clinical Ophthalmology, Khyber Institute of Ophthalmic Medical Sciences; Medical Teaching Institute Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar, over a period of 6 months. Utilizing a randomized controlled trial design and non-probability consecutive sampling, we determined a sample size of 70 patients, with 35 patients allocated to each group (Group A: ECCE, Group B: Phacoemulsification). The age of the participants ranged from 50 to 85 years, with a median of 60 years and a mean of 65±8 years. Our findings revealed that CME was observed in 11% of patients in Group A and 6% in Group B, indicating a lower frequency in post-operative cases. However, the difference in CME incidence between ECCE and phacoemulsification cases was not statistically significant. These results suggest that the risk of CME in post-operative cases may be influenced by various factors, including surgical technique and patient-specific variables. In conclusion, our study contributes to the understanding of CME following cataract surgery and underscores the importance of continued vigilance and further research in this area. Improved surgical techniques and perioperative management may help mitigate the risk of CME and enhance patient outcomes in the postoperative period.

Association of Tension Headache with Anxiety among Medical Students of Lahore, A Cross-Sectional Study

Background: The prevalence of anxiety and tension-type headaches among medical students has become a topic of growing concern, given the rigorous demands of medical education. Anxiety, characterized by feelings of worry, nervousness, or unease, has been closely linked with the occurrence of tension-type headaches, a common condition manifesting as bilateral, pressing pain in the head. The intersection of these conditions within the medical student population necessitates a deeper investigation to elucidate potential associations and contributing factors. Objective: This study aimed to explore the association between chronic tension-type headaches and anxiety among medical students in Lahore, focusing on the prevalence of these conditions and identifying any significant correlations between them. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted among 370 medical students in Lahore using convenient sampling. Data collection spanned from May 2020 to October 2020. Participants' anxiety levels were assessed using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, and tension-type headaches were evaluated based on criteria from the International Classification of Headache Disorders-3. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 25, with a significance level set at p < 0.05. Results: The mean age of participants was 20.98 ± 1.8911 years, with 54.05% being female. The prevalence of chronic tension-type headaches was 72.97%, while anxiety levels were classified as mild (30.27%), moderate (32.97%), and severe (36.76%). A significant positive correlation (r = .348, p < .000) was observed between chronic tension-type headaches and anxiety levels among the medical students. Conclusion: The findings indicate a high prevalence of both chronic tension-type headaches and anxiety among medical students, with a significant association between these conditions. This underscores the need for medical educational institutions to implement comprehensive mental health and wellness programs to address these issues effectively.

NEW CHALLENGES OF DISTANCE TEACHING AT THE INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL FACULTY DURING THE WAR AND CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC IN UKRAINE

The aim of this work is to address specific challenges related to the organization and future prospects of distance teaching in medical higher education institutions, especially pertinent amidst the current military situation in Ukraine. Materials and methods. In our analysis, we reviewed relevant experiences and documentation, considering the participation of medical students in higher education. The data analysis on student’s performance and engagement in online courses to assess the effectiveness of current distance teaching methods was performed. Results and discussion. The education of medical professionals at international faculties holds significant national importance, contributing to addressing various societal challenges and enhancing Ukraine's educational reputation. However, recent events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and martial law have posed new challenges for distance teaching practices in pedagogy. Ii is crucial for educators who work with international medical students to possess high levels of professionalism and moral integrity. Across the globe, simulation technologies are increasingly employed in medical training, offering innovative methods for preparing highly skilled medical personnel. One such technology is the "virtual patient," which allows learners to engage in realistic clinical scenarios, make diagnostic and treatment decisions, and understand the consequences of their actions without compromising patient safety. The development of communication and language skills among future medical professionals remains a pressing concern within higher education institutions. Utilizing technological storytelling methods to illustrate the journeys of successful specialists can provide valuable insights and inspiration for students. In the context of distance learning, maintaining prompt feedback channels between students and departmental teachers is essential for effective learning outcomes. Conclusion. Practical application of innovative methodological approaches provide with opportunity for teachers of medical higher education institutions to implement and improve the novel methods of work, to increase the effectiveness of the educational process and the level of knowledge of students of the international faculty. Innovative distance learning technologies stimulate the teacher's work, increase his/her professional level, since the organization of the educational process requires preparation for each class, constant pedagogical research, development and use of additional new materials, study of innovative technologies.

Determining the cost of acute stroke care for a single stay at a tertiary care centre in Pakistan.

To assess the economic burden of acute stroke, and to determine the average cost of acute stroke care for a single hospital stay in a public tertiary care hospital. The cross-sectional study was conducted at the Medical Teaching Institute, Bacha Khan Medical Complex, Swabi, Pakistan, from May 16 to September 19, 2022, and comprised patients of either gender who were hospitalised with an acute stroke for the first time. All costs incurred during the care of the patients were measured using the micro-costing methodology, and the association of the cost with other variables was evaluated. Data was analysed using SPSS 24. Of the 34 patients, 24(70.6%) were males and 10(29.4%) were females. The overall mean age was 66+/-13.00 years. The mean length of hospital stay was 4+/-3.00 days. The mean total cost was 18,156+/-9,068 Pakistani rupees, which was the equivalent of 76.89+/-38.4 United States dollars. The cost of the first day of admission was the highest, declining per day as the stay progressed, and imaging/laboratory investigations formed the highest component of the overall cost (p<0.001). The cost of acute stroke care was found to be high even in a public hospital. The length of hospital stay was the most important determinant of the overall cost.

Transpedicular Fixation for the Alleviation of Neurogenic Claudication and Backache in the Management of Spondylolisthesis

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the surgical outcome of transpedicular fixation for degenerative spondylolisthesis in terms of alleviation of neurogenic claudication and backache Materials &amp; Methods: This prospective observational study was carried out at the department of Neurosurgery, Medical Teaching Institute, Bacha Khan Medical Complex, Swabi over a period of two years i.e. from 1st July, 2021 to 30th June, 2023. Patients presenting with backache and neurogenic claudication and having spondylolisthesis on radiological investigations were subjected to transpedicular fixation and evaluated for improvement in symptoms and fusion rate at 6 months follow up. Results: 60 patients participated in the study. Mean age was 41.42±7.29 years and 63.3% were females. L5-S1 was the most common level involved in 40% of the patients and 50% of the patients had Grade 2 spondylolisthesis. There was significant reduction in mean back-pain score on NRS post-operatively (Pre-op was 6.73±1.94 Vs. post-op was 1.57±1.34, P value = 0.00). The neurogenic claudication reduced from 88.3% Vs. 10% (P value = 0.00). The fusion rate was 90% at 6 month follow up. Conclusion: Transpedicular fixation for degenerative spondylolisthesis is the most effective procedure in terms of relief of neurogenic claudication and backache.

The process of formation of medical education in the Voronezh province and its impact on the stuff problem in the region in the second half of the XIX – early XX century

The object of the study is the medical education system of the Voronezh province in the second half of the XIX – early XX century. The subject of the study is medical educational institutions and their impact on the personnel problem in the healthcare sector of the region. The regional aspect of the study, involving a set of sources from the local archive of the Voronezh region, allows for a deeper study of the history of the development of certain types of professional educational institutions of the Russian Empire and the problems to which their quantitative deficiency in a particular region has introduced. Based on the materials of archival documents of the State Archive of the Voronezh Region, the most important medical educational institutions for the Voronezh province in the second half of the XIX – early XX century were identified: the Zemsky paramedic school and the obstetric school, which tried to solve the problem of shortage of qualified medical personnel in the region. The methodological basis of this work includes the principles of historicism, consistency and objectivity. The analysis of a wide range of sources allowed us to build a logical chain of interrelations between the development of professional medical education and the state of healthcare in the Voronezh province. The formation of medical education led to an increase in human resources in this area – already in the 1880s, the educational institutions of the province trained from 70 to 100 specialists in the field of medicine. By the beginning of the 20th century, there was an increase in the average standard of living of the population, both in the region and throughout the country. The author concludes that the improvement of the health care in the region became possible due to an increase in the number of medical personnel trained in professional educational institutions of the Voronezh province, as well as educational and explanatory work on sanitary and hygienic issues, which was carried out by prominent public figures, doctors, teachers among the entire population. The novelty of the research lies in the introduction of new archival materials into scientific circulation and a more detailed study of the issue of the relationship between vocational education and personnel policy in the region.

Mean Value of Probing Depth and Tooth Mobility of Abutment Teeth in Patients using Removable Partial Denture

Removable partial dentures (RPDs) are a typical treatment for supplanting missing teeth. Notwithstanding, concerns exist in regards to their effect on the health of the abutment teeth supporting the dental replacement. Objective: To assess the impact of RPDs on the periodontal health of abutment teeth. Methods: This cross-sectional study included patients from the Prosthodontics department, Bacha Khan Medical College (Medical Teaching Institute, Mardan) between January 6th, 2020, to June 6th, 2020. Examining profundity (pocket depth among gum and tooth) and tooth versatility were assessed in patients utilizing RPDs. The probing depth was estimated at six focuses around every tooth, and a profundity of 1-3 mm was viewed as typical. Peculiarities of the Formation of Basic Knowledge on the Emergency Pre-medical Assistance Providing by Persons without Special Medical Education

Starting from February 2022, with the beginning of the russian federation’s unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, the time requirements for the direction of the trainings and the contingent for which they are intended have changed significantly. In addition, the issue of rapid spread of knowledge and skills in providing first aid to the injured persons has become very acute. The active help of the international community of higher medical education institutions contributed to the quick and effective training of our teachers as trainers for Basic Life Support (BLS), Stop Bleeding and PHTF courses. The use of innovative digital technologies, modeling of clinical situations, in particular, with the help of distance learning tools, the possibilities of modern simulation technologies and simulators allowed applicants to acquire the necessary theoretical knowledge and master practical skills quickly and at the best level. The objective: to perform a comparative assessment of the quality of conducting simulation trainings on providing pre-medical care to persons without basic medical education using various teaching techniques. Materials and methods. The trainings were conducted in two formats - traditional offline study with the participation of an instructor and using the HybridLab method (introduced by the Lithuanian University of Medical Sciences, Kaunas, Republic of Lithuania) for 112 schoolchildren and 27 teachers. 58 students and 14 teachers were trained according to the usual method in groups of 5-6 persons, according to the HybridLab method – 54 schoolchildren and 13 teachers in groups of 3-4 individuals. The duration of the trainings was 42 hours. Efficiency was evaluated according to two criteria: the average score of the final test and the indicator of acquiring new knowledge. Results. A unique combination of methods of organizing the educational process, such as HybridLab, trainings on pre-medical care, which were developed on the basis of the trainings “First on the scene”, “Stop the bleeding” and BLS, and modern tools that allow to evaluate the effectiveness of training, contributed to the achievement a high level of mastery of all the necessary skills by as many people as possible in the shortest time, which is the leading goal of today. Conclusions. We consider the experience of implementing these knowledge/skills and training methods, as well as the further evaluation of their effectiveness, to be the second task of all medical education institutions and training centers operating in Ukraine, after teaching training on tactical medical training of combatants and emergency tactical medical assistance for medical specialists.

Analysis of the Risk of COVID-19 in the Post-Vaccination Period Based on the Results of a Multicenter Study — a Survey of Medical Workers

Background. One of the vulnerable categories of the population during the COVID-19 pandemic has become employees of medical and educational institutions. Timely and properly organized prevention, based on anti-epidemic measures based on vaccination, is necessary not only to reduce the incidence of the disease, but primarily to reduce the severity in case of its occurrence, reduce the risk of hospitalization. Understanding the effectiveness of preventing SARS-CoV-2 infections among healthcare workers is a critical component of occupational health and safety policy and strategy.&#x0D; Aim — analysis of the incidence of COVID-19 after vaccination among medical staff and teaching staff of medical higher educational institutions.&#x0D; Methods. In the period from January to March 2022, a cross-sectional retrospective single-stage online study was conducted (anonymous questionnaires posted on the Anketologist platform). The survey was completed by 6032 respondents (82% efficiency). According to the criteria, 2114 respondents were excluded from the study. The analysis was carried out according to the questionnaires of 3918 respondents, including an assessment of the incidence after vaccination (n = 3668 respondents).&#x0D; Results. Fell ill after a double vaccination for 5 months — 663 (16.9%). Unvaccinated respondents reported that within 5 months. prior to the survey, 116 (46.4%) had a laboratory-confirmed new coronavirus infection. Lack of vaccination increased the risk of SARS-CoV-2 (OR 1.78 ± 0.14; 95% CI: 1.34–2.36). Efficiency within 5 months post-vaccination period was 55.5% (95% CI: 42.2–57.7%) for Sputnik V; 71.9% (95% CI: 68.1–85.4%) — Sputnik Light. It was found that gender and age were not a risk factor for the onset of the disease in the post-vaccination period. The presence of a history of previous COVID-19 increased the risk of disease in the post-vaccination period in individuals under 35 years of age (OR 2.323 ± 0.102; 95% CI: 1.903–2.836), aged 36–64 years (OR 2.547 ± 0.086; 95% CI: 2.150–3.016), older than 65 years (OR 1.323 ± 0.280; 95% CI: 0.764–2.290). Respondents with a history of a combination of chronic cardiovascular pathology and past COVID-19 had a higher risk of getting sick in the post-vaccination period (OR 1.338 ± 0.160; 95% CI: 0.977–1.832).&#x0D; Conclusion. According to the questionnaire, an important factor affecting the risk of COVID-19 in the post-vaccination period is the presence of SARS-CoV-2 before vaccination, which can increase the chance of developing the disease in the presence of other risk factors (chronic pathology, age, smoking, alcohol consumption).

Medical education and the epidemics: How educational technology responded.

The global disruption created by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in medical education and healthcare institutions is unparalleled. Consequently, it is essential to evaluate the usability of forms of educational technology and to identify their viability and suitability for medical education. The objective of the investigation was to present an assessment of the state of medical education during the COVID-19 epidemic and to identify the obstacles faced by educators while introducing online learning systems for medical students. Two cross-sectional surveys were conducted with 200 medical students and 75 staff members from Saudi Arabia's University of Health. A descriptive method was used to focus on the mechanisms of analysis, foresight, and comprehension of reality. The most significant findings were the obstacles posed by instructors' most urgent requirements for educational technology training and its applications in order to activate distance education in medical education. In addition to a detailed description of the academic and technological concerns and obstacles encountered by students and faculty of health colleges during the pandemic, this report includes a discussion of the pandemic itself. Several prospective recommendations for the use of online and blended learning in health colleges post-pandemic were also made. Additionally, the requirement to activate learning via virtual professional learning groups.
