Indonesia sends hundreds of thousands of Hajj pilgrims every year. Many pilgrims depart at an elderly age due to limited quotas and long waiting periods. This situation contributes to the recurrence of health problems among Hajj pilgrims. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors associated with morbidity among Hajj pilgrims from Medan City in 2024. This research employed a descriptive-analytic approach with a cross-sectional study design. The study was conducted at the Health Quarantine Office of North Sumatra Province from August 2024 to February 2025. The results showed significant associations between age (p-value 0.000), medical history (p-value 0.000), istithaah (physical/medical eligibility) status (p-value 0.001), and health risk status (p-value 0.000) with morbidity among Hajj pilgrims in Medan City. The most dominant factor influencing morbidity was high-risk health status, with an Exp(B) value of 19.745 and a p-value of 0.000. It is recommended that the Ministry of Religious Affairs establish a maximum age limit for Hajj registration, taking into account the waiting period until the Hajj is performed, to help ensure pilgrims are not too old to perform the pilgrimage. Additionally, it is advised that the Medan City Port Health Office (BKK) be more proactive and responsive in managing high-risk prospective pilgrims by providing training for healthcare workers.

Blood, as a vital component, has essential functions in the human body, including nutrient circulation, oxygen transport, and hormone distribution. A shortage of blood supply can be fatal, making an adequate blood supply in healthcare facilities crucial for saving patients' lives and maintaining the continuity of the medical service system. Despite its clear importance, challenges in meeting blood needs still frequently occur, primarily due to a lack of public awareness about the urgency and benefits of blood donation, as well as uneven understanding of the process and donor eligibility criteria. This phenomenon is exacerbated by fluctuating donation rates, an aging population demographic, and socioeconomic shifts that impact the sustainable availability of donors. The partner in this community service is the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Medan City, located at Jl. Palang Merah No. 17 Medan. PMI Medan City offers several services such as ambulance, disaster management, training, social service units, and blood donation. The partner's problems are the public's lack of awareness of the importance of blood donation, minimal socialization and information about blood donation, and unstable blood stock availability, making it important to maintain the amount of available blood stock. Based on the partner's problems, the solutions offered in this service are raising awareness, capacity building, and empowering the community thru the creation of the Bintang Donor application and the formation of blood donation volunteers. The benefits obtained are that by forming blood donation volunteers, knowledge, awareness, and public health are increased thru blood donation, blood stock availability can be maintained so that it remains stable, and it becomes easier for the public to obtain information and blood donation locations. The planned outputs of this program are: a journal of the activity results, a video of the activity implementation, publications in mass/online media, and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).

Main Purpose - The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of Value Added Tax and the City Minimum Wage on the purchasing power of the community in Medan City during the period 2015–2024. Method - This research employs a quantitative approach utilizing secondary data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) and other official government sources. The dataset for this study comprises all annual data related to Value Added Tax, City Minimum Wage, and public purchasing power in Medan City from 2015 to 2024, resulting in 10 observations. Data analysis was conducted using EViews software to examine the relationships among the variables. Main Findings - The results show that both VAT and CMW meaningfully influence the community’s purchasing power. Increases in VAT and minimum wage adjustments have been shown to affect people’s ability to meet their consumption needs, emphasizing the strategic role of fiscal and labor policies in sustaining public welfare.Theory and Practical Implications - The results show that VAT, which does not have a significant effect on purchasing power, can be positioned as maslahah ‘ammah, with its revenue managed transparently for public benefit. Meanwhile, the minimum wage has a significant effect on purchasing power, so wage policies should be set fairly to safeguard maslahah dharuriyah in fulfilling basic needs.Novelty - The novelty of this research lies in the use of the maslahah perspective in analyzing the simultaneous influence of VAT and minimum wage on the purchasing power of Medan City’s community, thereby providing a new contribution in examining the linkage between fiscal and labor policies with societal welfare.

Anugerah Jaya Mobil is a car repair shop located in Medan City that still uses manual methods in managing its service and spare part sales. This creates several problems in managing service and sales. Customers feel uncomfortable because they have to come in person to inquire about the status of their vehicle. They also do not know when the service will be completed and whether the spare parts they need are available. To address these problems, the purpose of this research is to create a web-based information system that aims to simplify and accelerate the service process and data management. This system uses the Agile Development method. In this method, development is carried out in short cycles, called sprints. Each cycle produces a part of the system that can be tested. By getting direct feedback from users, the team can improve and adjust the system quickly. This makes the final product more in line with user expectations and can adapt to changes. It is expected that this system can improve operational efficiency and reduce losses at Anugrah Jaya Mobil.

Stunting remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, with multidimensional impacts ranging from impaired physical growth to reduced human capital quality. Socioeconomic status, parental education, and parenting practices are recognized determinants, but the role of digital behavior, particularly smartphone use, remains underexplored. This study aims to analyze the association between parental smartphone use duration and stunting among children in Medan City. An analytical observational study with a case-control design was conducted involving 124 respondents (62 cases, 62 controls) selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using sociodemographic questionnaires and the Smartphone Addiction Scale – Short Version (SAS-SV). Statistical analysis employed Chi-Square tests and Odds Ratio estimation. Most case respondents had a high school education (51.6%) and a family income of IDR 1,000,000–3,000,000 (64.5%), while control respondents were predominantly university graduates (88.7%) with incomes exceeding IDR 5,000,000 (54.8%). Smartphone addiction was more prevalent in the case group (71.0%) than in controls (21.0%). A significant association was found (p < 0.001), with OR = 9.214 (95% CI: 4.053–20.948). Excessive parental smartphone use is significantly associated with stunting in children, highlighting the need for preventive interventions that address digital behavior as an emerging risk factor.

In Javanese tradition, marriage is inseparable from a series of customary ceremonies. One such tradition is Midodareni, a ritual series performed on the eve of the wedding day, in which the bride-to-be is spiritually and mentally prepared to enter married life. This tradition is also practiced by the Javanese community in Medan City, including rituals such as Nemokkan Manten, Kembar Mayang, Pecah Telur, and Tepung Tawar. The Midodareni tradition receives differing views from two Islamic organizations in Medan City: Al Washliyah and Muhammadiyah. This study aims to examine the Midodareni procession, the perspectives of Al Washliyah and Muhammadiyah leaders in Medan regarding this tradition, and the differences in their views. This research employs an empirical sociological method with a comparative approach. The type of research used is field research, descriptive in nature, and utilizes a qualitative approach that seeks to portray phenomena as they occur in the field. The findings indicate that Al Washliyah leaders tend to adopt a moderate and accommodative stance, viewing the tradition as acceptable as long as it does not involve elements of shirk (polytheism) or contradict Islamic principles. They advocate for reinterpretation and adaptation of traditional meanings to align with Islamic values. In contrast, Muhammadiyah leaders perceive Midodareni as a cultural practice imbued with mysticism and symbolism lacking any foundation in Islamic teachings. Therefore, they reject its practice and call for the purification of marriage rites based solely on the Prophet’s Sunnah, excluding customary rituals.

The implementation of informed consent and refusal is a legal, ethical, and professional obligation in midwifery services, aimed at protecting patients’ rights and mitigating the risks of disputes and legal liabilities for healthcare providers. However, its implementation still faces serious challenges. The objective of this study is to assess the level of compliance among healthcare workers in implementing informed consent and refusal, and examine aspects of legal accountability and innovative strategies supporting midwifery services in Medan City. The research method used in this study employed normative juridical and empirical methods with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected through purposive sampling using the Slovin formula and analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Based on the survey results, the majority of respondents were categorized as compliant (66.7%), although one-third were non-compliant (33.3%). Institutional support through Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) was relatively strong; however, legal training and the adoption of digital documentation remained limited, resulting in weak legal awareness and substantive compliance. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening legal capacity through the dissemination and enhancement of health law literacy. Furthermore, standardization of implementation and the acceleration of digital transformation are required to minimize legal risks and improve the quality of services.

This study aims to analyze the influence of brand image, product quality, and price on consumer loyalty toward sports shoes among basketball athletes in Medan City. The research employed a quantitative approach with an associative design by distributing questionnaires to 78 respondents. The results indicate that brand image has no significant effect on consumer loyalty, while product quality and price show a positive influence. Simultaneously, the three variables contribute to the formation of consumer loyalty, particularly through usage satisfaction, repurchase intention, and recommendations to others. These findings highlight the importance of product quality and competitive pricing as the main factors in building consumer loyalty in the sports shoe market. This research provides insights for athletic shoe manufacturers to focus more on improving product quality and competitive pricing to maintain and expand market share among athletes. It also shows that while brand image can influence consumer perceptions, quality and price are more dominant in building long-term relationships with consumers in the athletic shoe industry.
