P‐172: Study on The effect of Module Films on Metal Wire Strain During the Pad bending Process

Based on ABAQUS mechanical simulation software and the same bending radius, this paper simulated and an alyzed the strain change trends of metal wires on the different schemes for other key influencing films, such as BPL, PI and TPOC. On the basis of the simulation results, the conclusions are follows: PI thickness thinn ing or TPOC thickness increases can decrease the stra in of the metal wires at bending region. However, the change of BPL thickness has no significant effect.

Laser induced plasma characterization in direct and water confined regimes: new advances in experimental studies and numerical modelling

Optimization of the laser shock peening (LSP) and LASer Adhesion Test (LASAT) processes requires control of the laser-induced target’s loading. Improvements to optical and laser technologies allow plasma characterization to be performed with greater precision than 20 years ago. Consequently, the processes involved during laser–matter interactions can be better understood. For the purposes of this paper, a self-consistent model of plasma pressure versus time is required. The current approach is called the inverse method, since it is adjusted until the simulated free surface velocity (FSV) corresponds to the experimental velocity. Thus, it is not possible to predict the behavior of the target under shock without having done the experiments. For the first time, experimental data collected in different labs with the most up-to-date laser parameters are used to validate a self-consistent model for temporal pressure-profile calculation. In addition, the parameters characterizing the plasma (temperature, thickness and duration) are obtained from the ESTHER numerical code, together with the amount of ablated matter. Finally, analytic fits are presented that can reproduce any pressure–temporal profiles in the following domains of validity: intensities, I, ranging from 10 to 500 GW cm−2 and pulse durations, T pul, between 5 and 40 ns for the direct-illumination regime at 1053 nm, I ranging from 1 to 6 GW cm−2 and T pul between 10 to 40 ns in the water-confined regime at 1053 nm, and I from 1 to 10 GW cm−2 and T pul between 7 and 20 ns in the water-confined regime at 532 nm. These temporal pressure profiles can then be used to predict the aluminum target’s behavior under laser shock using mechanical simulation software.

Effect of wood ash additive on the thermal stresses of random fiberglass/polyester composite pipes

Experimental and numerical investigations of the effect of wood ash additive on the thermal stresses of random fiberglass/polyester composite pipes were presented in this work. The experimental work includes manufacturing of pipe specimens (50% Vf wood ash/polyester composite pipe, 50% Vf random fiberglass (Mat)/polyester composite pipe and 25% Vf wood ash and 25% Vf random fiberglass (Mat)/polyester composite pipe) by resin casting method and building a test rig to study the behaviour of these pipe specimens under thermal loads. Pipe specimens had inner diameter of 90mm and 400mm in length. The wall thickness is 5mm. The current work includes also manufacturing tensile test specimens which were examined by tensile device and manufacturing thermo mechanical test specimens which were examined by thermo mechanical analyser (TMA) to determine the coefficient of thermal expansion of the specimens. In numerical work, ANSYS was used as mechanical simulation software with SHELL63 element type. The results showed that adding wood ash to the random fiberglass/polyester composite pipe leads to decrease in its longitudinal stress, hoop stress and von mises stress, however increases the element temperature withstand. The numerical solution gave a good agreement results with the experimental work with maximum difference between experimental and numerical strain ranging was between (9.3%) to (17.7%) and maximum difference between experimental and numerical stress was ranging between (14.1%) to (17.75%).

Determination of biological joint reaction forces from in-vivo experiments using a hybrid combination of biomechanical and mechanical engineering software

In biomechanical field, several studies used OpenSim software to compute the joint reaction forces from kinematics and ground reaction forces measurements. The bio-inspired joints design and their manufacturing need the usage of mechanical modeling and simulation software tools. This paper proposes a new hybrid methodology to determine biological joint reaction forces from in vivo measurements using both biomechanical and mechanical engineering softwares. The methodology has been applied to the horse forelimb joints. The computed joint reaction forces results would be compared to the results obtained with OpenSim in a previous study. This new hybrid model used a combination of measurements (bone geometry, kinematics, ground reaction forces…) and also OpenSim results (muscular and ligament forces). The comparison between the two models showed values with an average difference of 8% at trotting and 16% at jumping. These differences can be associated with the differences between the modelling strategies. Despite these differences, the mechanical modeling method allows the computation of advanced simulations to handle contact conditions in joints. In future, the proposed mechanical engineering methodology could open the door to define a biological digital twin of a quadruped limb including the real geometry modelling of the joint.

Research on Gait control algorithm of Bionic Hexapod Robot System based on Adams and Matlab

The control algorithm of bionic hexapod robot based on biological control algorithm has been designed and realized. Through the establishment of virtual prototype physical model by Adams, Adams and Matlab simulation software is realized to carry out joint simulation of the robot to verify the feasibility of the algorithm. At the same time, the algorithm was improved according to the emerging problems. Firstly, the gait control model of hexapod bionic robot is established in Matlab/Simulink, and pure theoretical simulation is carried out for it as the control system part of the joint simulation system. Secondly, a three-dimensional solid model of hexapod bionic robot is established in SolidWorks, which is then imported into the mechanical simulation software for kinematic analysis to verify the constraint relationship of the virtual prototype model, and the corresponding Simulink file is exported through the Adams/Controls interface module as the mechanical system part of the joint simulation system. Finally, Adams and Matlab are used for joint simulation of the robot to verify the feasibility of this algorithm and lay a foundation for the construction of entity prototype.

Using a 3-D Printed Mechatronics Project to Simulate MEMS Design and Fabrication

Contribution: A semester-long project, geared towards a multidisciplinary group of undergraduate engineering students, to design and simulate a large-scale microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) 2-D optical scanner is presented. Background: MEMS component design and fabrication typically requires a cleanroom and costly high-vacuum equipment; these are not available at many small educational institutions. Conventionally, institutions without cleanroom access teach MEMS courses using lectures and videos, but this fails to engage and motivate students because of the absence of hands-on fabrication and design experience. Application Design: The mechatronics project has students use simple accessible tools, including 3-D printing, servomotors, a microcontroller, and mechanical simulation software to design and optimize a large-scale model of a MEMS optical scanner that simulates the 2-D motion of the actual device. Intended Outcomes: This project involves a hands-on approach designed to improve the participating students’ understanding of MEMS devices; its design and process constraints closely resemble aspects of the MEMS industry. Application Design: In addition to a detailed description of the various components of the project, this paper describes methods to assess student progress, and gives reflections on the project’s implementation. The effectiveness of the project is evaluated through assessment data obtained from a total of 65 students over three semesters. Findings: After introducing the project to the course, instructors saw a great increase in interest, and an improvement in performance. Students showed a significant improvement in their understanding of mask design and fabrication process description, as demonstrated by their final exam grades.

Influence of Cross-Section Design and Vertical Misfit on Stress Distribution in Overdenture Retaining System: 3-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis.

To evaluate by 3-dimensional (3-D) finite element analysis the stress generated on overdenture-retaining bar system with different cross sections (round, ovoid, or Hader) and misfit levels (50, 100, and 200 μm) manufactured with different metallic alloys (Au type IV, Ag-Pd, Ti cp, and Co-Cr). Three-dimensional finite element models were modeled using specific 3-D software (SolidWorks) and imported into mechanical simulation software (ANSYS). A displacement simulating the settlement of the screw was performed until the infrastructure was settled properly on the prosthetic platform. Higher misfit levels caused higher stress on the overdenture-retaining bar system components, where (1) Hader bar presented the highest values (bar = 730.71; screw = 59.66, and periimplant bone tissue = 42.96, in megapascal) and (2) round bars made with type IV Au alloy presented lower stress values on the bar framework (193.99 MPa) and screw (10.27 MPa). Higher vertical misfit increased the stress values on the overdenture-retaining bar system; complex cross-sectional designs increased stress values on the bar framework, prosthetic screw, and periimplant bone tissue; stiffer alloys caused higher stress values on all the studied conditions.

Application of simulation software in the characterization of polar robot manipulators

Background/Objectives: The implementation of a method for the characterization of polar (or spherical) robot manipulators for arc welding applications, based on the usage of mechanical simulation software to predict the behavior of the main kinetic variables of said mechanism, previous to its physical elaboration. Methods: With the application of simulation software, kinetic variables of a polar robot manipulator, such as velocities and accelerations, were determined using a commercial simulation package; to validate the simulation results, these were compared by the results given by the application of the theoretical model used for the study of polar manipulators, which is available in the literature. Findings: The results obtained by using the simulation package, shared the same behavior as the results obtained through the application of the theoretical model, with a little deviation from the theoretical results (less than 5%). Besides that, the simulation model allowed to obtain results to a higher speed than the solution of theoretical equations (harder to solve at hand) with the same accuracy, which is an important parameter when optimization processes are required. Application: To develop a tool for the kinetic analysis of polar robot manipulators for arc welding applications, using simulation software.

Investigation and Analysis of Mechanical Platform Optimization for MEM Type 3D Printer

To improve the efficiency and precision of the MEM300 granule feeding 3D printer, the motion platform of printer was modelled, and the modal frequency was solved using the ANSYS software. The speed parameters of polarization motor was reasonably set according to the frequency range in modal analysis and the speed of polarization motor measured. Then the professional mechanical simulation software was used to sample the polarization motor speed, the resulting speed parameters were taken as the driving energy, the harmonic response analysis was performed for the entire motion platform. Based on the harmonic response analysis results of mechanical platform, the polarization motors in different speed models are replaced, and the entire mechanical movement was verified. The experiment found that the feeding efficiency of the printer system is not proportional to the rate of polarization motor, and the reasonable velocity is between 38 and 40r/s. When the energy of polarization motor is too high, the vibration in hopper and feeding column will be increased. The method provides a good solution to solve the stability of the mechanical structure.

MCPB.py: A Python Based Metal Center Parameter Builder.

MCPB.py, a python based metal center parameter builder, has been developed to build force fields for the simulation of metal complexes employing the bonded model approach. It has an optimized code structure, with far fewer required steps than the previous developed MCPB program. It supports various AMBER force fields and more than 80 metal ions. A series of parametrization schemes to derive force constants and charge parameters are available within the program. We give two examples (one metalloprotein example and one organometallic compound example), indicating the program's ability to build reliable force fields for different metal ion containing complexes. The original version was released with AmberTools15. It is provided via the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GNU_GPL_v3) agreement and is free to download and distribute. MCPB.py provides a bridge between quantum mechanical calculations and molecular dynamics simulation software packages thereby enabling the modeling of metal ion centers. It offers an entry into simulating metal ions in a number of situations by providing an efficient way for researchers to handle the vagaries and difficulties associated with metal ion modeling.

Nonlinear Behavior Analysis of a Flapping-Wing Mechanism with Clearance Joint

The nonlinear behavior of a flapping-wing mechanism affected by revolute joint clearance is studied in this work. Considering the axial dimension of bearing, energy dissipation and the nonlinear power exponent from material, the nonlinear stiffness coefficient and an improved contact dynamic model in the joint clearance is established. A flapping-wing mechanism dynamic model with joint clearance is also established. Then embed the contact dynamic model and system dynamic model into the mechanical system simulation software package. From large numbers simulations performed, and the analysis of journal trajectories and Poincare maps under the different clearance sizes, it can be concluded that flapping-wing mechanism with joint clearance exhibit a chaotic response, and the more clearance size, the more obvious chaotic behavior.

Overdenture retaining bar stress distribution: A finite-element analysis

Objective. Evaluate the stress distribution on the peri-implant bone tissue and prosthetic components of bar-clip retaining systems for overdentures presenting different implant inclinations, vertical misfit and framework material. Materials and methods. Three-dimensional models of a jaw and an overdenture retained by two implants and a bar-clip attachment were modeled using specific software (SolidWorks 2010). The studied variables were: latero-lateral inclination of one implant (–10°, –5°, 0°, +5°, +10°); vertical misfit on the other implant (50, 100, 200 µm); and framework material (Au type IV, Ag-Pd, Ti cp, Co-Cr). Solid models were imported into mechanical simulation software (ANSYS Workbench 11). All nodes on the bone’s external surface were constrained and a displacement was applied to simulate the settling of the framework on the ill-fitted component. Von Mises stress for the prosthetic components and maximum principal stress to the bone tissue were evaluated. Results. The +10° inclination presented the worst biomechanical behavior, promoting the highest stress values on the bar framework and peri-implant bone tissue. The –5° group presented the lowest stress values on the prosthetic components and the lowest stress value on peri-implant bone tissue was observed in –10°. Increased vertical misfit caused an increase on the stress values in all evaluated structures. Stiffer framework materials caused a considerable stress increase in the framework itself, prosthetic screw of the fitted component and peri-implant bone tissue. Conclusions. Inclination of one implant associated with vertical misfit caused a relevant effect on the stress distribution in bar-clip retained overdentures. Different framework materials promoted increased levels of stress in all the evaluated structures.

The Influence of Clip Material and Cross Sections of the Bar Framework Associated with Vertical Misfit on Stress Distribution in Implant-Retained Overdentures

The aim was to evaluate the stress concentration caused by different cross sections of bar frameworks and clip materials used to retain overdentures. Three-dimensional models of a severely resorbed arch, an overdenture retained by two implants, and a bar-clip attachment system were made. A total of twelve models were made according to the cross section of the bar framework (round, oval, or Hader), clip material (gold or plastic), and presence of misfit. A vertical misfit of 100 μm between the implant and the bar framework was made on the right implant. Finite element models were obtained by importing the solid model into mechanical simulation software. The base of the mandible was set to be the fixed support, and a pressure of 100 MPa was applied to the right mandibular first molar. The analysis was made by means of von Mises stress for the prosthetic components and microstrain to the bone tissue. Round bars led to lower values of stress in the clip and prosthetic screw of the ill-fitted component and lower microstrain values in the periimplant bone tissue. The lowest values of stress in the bar were observed in the Hader groups. Plastic clips reduced the stress concentration in all structures compared with gold clips. The clip material and the cross section of the bar framework influenced the stress distribution in overdentures retained by a bar-clip system presenting vertical misfit.

The Kinematic Simulation of Micro-Miniature Rescue Robots Manipulator Based on CATIA and ADMAS

In order to improve the designing efficiency of micro-miniature rescue robot and predict its function, on the basis of studying the working theories of micro-miniature rescue robot research deeply. Constructing the three dimensional parametric model of micro-miniature rescue robots manipulator for applying the CATIA, importing it into the ADAMS which is a mechanical dynamic simulation software through SimDesigner between CATIA and ADAMS, conducting the subsequent constraint and driving addition to finish the kinematic analysis of the structure of the micro-miniature rescue robots manipulator. The kinematic simulation analysis which shortens the researching period, improves the designing quality as well as lays a good foundation for the structures deeper study and practical application. By means of analyzing the simulation result, getting the data which is agree to the theoretical calculation, proving the rationality and correctness of building the micro-miniature rescue robots mechanical manipulators model.

Development of a Virtual Prototype of Surmounting Transport Vehicles Based on Solidworks

Based on the powerful 3-D modeling, analytic and computational functions provided by SolidWorks, achieving data conversion with mechanical dynamic simulation software through the interface software, the research designed a low-cost, high-applicable virtual prototype of surmounting transport vehicles. The design was then validated by dynamic simulation.

Effect of bar cross-section geometry on stress distribution in overdenture-retaining system simulating horizontal misfit and bone loss

This study evaluated the influence of cross-section geometry of the bar framework on the distribution of static stresses in an overdenture-retaining bar system simulating horizontal misfit and bone loss. Three-dimensional FE models were created including two titanium implants and three cross-section geometries (circular, ovoid or Hader) of bar framework placed in the anterior part of a severely resorbed jaw. One model with 1.4-mm vertical loss of the peri-implant tissue was also created. The models set were exported to mechanical simulation software, where horizontal displacement (10, 50 or 100μm) was applied simulating the settling of the framework, which suffered shrinkage during the laboratory procedures. The bar material used for the bar framework was a cobalt—chromium alloy. For evaluation of bone loss effect, only the 50-μm horizontal misfit was simulated. Data were qualitatively and quantitatively evaluated using von Mises stress for the mechanical part and maximum principal stress and μ-strain for peri-implant bone tissue given by the software. Stresses were concentrated along the bar and in the join between the bar and cylinder. In the peri-implant bone tissue, the μ-strain was higher in the cervical third. Higher stress levels and μ-strain were found for the models using the Hader bar. The bone loss simulated presented considerable increase on maximum principal stresses and μ-strain in the peri-implant bone tissue. In addition, for the amplification of the horizontal misfit, the higher complexity of the bar cross-section geometry and bone loss increases the levels of static stresses in the peri-implant bone tissue.

Stress distribution in fixed-partial prosthesis and peri-implant bone tissue with different framework materials and vertical misfit levels: a three-dimensional finite element analysis

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of superstructure material and vertical misfits on the stresses created in an implant-supported partial prosthesis. A three-dimensional (3-D) finite element model was prepared based on common clinical data. The posterior part of a severely resorbed jaw with two osseointegrated implants at the second premolar and second molar regions was modeled using specific modeling software (SolidWorks 2010). Finite element models were created by importing the solid model into mechanical simulation software (ANSYS Workbench 11). The models were divided into groups according to the prosthesis framework material (type IV gold alloy, silver-palladium alloy, commercially pure titanium, cobalt-chromium alloy, or zirconia) and vertical misfit level (10 µm, 50 µm, and 100 µm) created at one implant-prosthesis interface. The gap of the vertical misfit was set to be closed and the stress values were measured in the framework, porcelain veneer, retention screw, and bone tissue. Stiffer materials led to higher stress concentration in the framework and increased stress values in the retention screw, while in the same circumstances, the porcelain veneer showed lower stress values, and there was no significant difference in stress in the peri-implant bone tissue. A considerable increase in stress concentration was observed in all the structures evaluated within the misfit amplification. The framework material influenced the stress concentration in the prosthetic structures and retention screw, but not that in bone tissue. All the structures were significantly influenced by the increase in the misfit levels.

Dynamic Simulation of the Movement of the Rocket Launch Tower on ADAMS Based on the Material of the Tower

The rocket launch tower’s movement involve opening and closing.During these two process,the tower shakes severely. This study using ADAMS to simulate the movement of the tower and finding that the material of the tower’s components showing a characteristic of flexibility, the material’s characteristic of flexibility of the tower is a main reason of the vibration. In oreder to establish the rocket launch tower’s model,using Pro/E and Mech/pro to create the model.Then ,with the use of mechanical system simulation software ADAMS and finite element analysis software, Patran / Nastran to simulate the rocket launch tower’s movement. The results showed that although the rocket launch tower’s material is steel,it’s main components still showing the flexible feature. And its various components’ influence of flexibility for the tower’s vibration are quite different from each other.

Dynamic Characteristics Analysis of Two-Phase Flow Diaphragm Pump Based on MATLAB and ADAMS

Two-phase flow diaphragm pump (hereafter referred to as the diaphragm pump) is a new generation pump of the reciprocating pump, which used to transport high fretting corrosion medium. At present, the diaphragm pump is widely used in many fields such as Non-ferrous metals, Chemical, Coal, Electric power and so on. The diaphragm pump is of the heart of the equipment; therefore it must have the very high reliability. As the important part of diaphragm pump, the dynamic characteristics of the power end will directly affect the behaviors and life of the solid machine. This paper introduces the work principle of the diaphragm pump, carries a simulation to the virtual prototype of the diaphragm pump based on the numerical value analyze software MATLAB and the dynamics of mechanical system simulation software ADAMS and get the relationships between the design parameters and the dynamic characteristics of the power end of diaphragm pump, which provide a theoretical basis for optimizing the diaphragm pump in the future.
