Howard Lewis Penn took a Bachelor's Degree from Indiana University in 1968 and a Master's in 1969. He received his Ph.D. in 1973 from the University of Michigan. Since then, he has been at the United States Naval Academy. He was promoted to Full Professor in August, 1987. Professor Penn has had a longstanding interest in the use of computers in the teaching of mathematics and has written several papers on the subject. He is a member of the Committee on Com? puters in Mathematics Education of the Mathematical Association of America. He has been active in the Maryland-District of Columbia-Virginia section, having held several positions including Chairman. He has also worked for several summers as a computer programmer and systems analyst for the National Science Foundation. Professor Penn uses his full middle name because of the three Penns listed in the combined member?
