”I Am Satisfied with My Marriage”: An Experience from Madurese Women who Married Early

The research aimed at examining ways by which Madurese women could achieve satisfaction in early marriage. Its used a qualitative research method with an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). To understand the meaning of one’s experience by looking for themes from available data, IPA rested on three pillars, namely phenomenology, hermeneutics, and idiography. The researchers used semi-structured interviews to collect data and purposive homogeneous sampling. The participants involved were three married women under 18 years old who were living in Madura. The results of the research show that the three women are satisfied with their marriage. The satisfaction of their marriage can be seen from taking care of each other when sick, giving her enough money, and always happy with her husband, not far apart. Furthermore, Madurese women dissatisfaction in her marriage can be seen from anger if she is not given money and is not helped in doing household.

Nexus between Gender differences and Sexual Satisfaction in selected Married couples in Ilishan, Ogun State, Nigeria

Scholarly discourse has intensified the debate on differences regarding sexual drive, sexual initiation, and intimacy between male and female partners and sexual satisfaction in marriage. A pre-tested questionnaire was administered to 124 married students of Babcock University and results were analysed using various regression analysis. Findings revealed that sexual initiation has no influence on sexual satisfaction. It depicted that sexual drive provokes sexual satisfaction more in males than in females while intimacy tends to engender sexual satisfaction more in females than in their male counterparts where the joint effect of the three variables on sexual satisfaction was tested. Furthermore, length of time in marriage significantly moderates the relationship between intimacy and sexual satisfaction. The study confirms intimacy as a key driver in the sexual satisfaction of married couples and recommends its embrace in obedience to the Holy book, as it motivates sexual initiation and increases sexual drive in each partner. Kebersyukuran dan Kemaafan Terhadap Kepuasan Pernikahan

Marital satisfaction is an important aspect of the couple in the marriage. This study aims to look at the relationship between gratitude and forgiveness to marital satisfaction. This research was conducted in quantitative research using a research scale. The study population is a married couple who are residents of Rokan Hulu Regency. A purposive sampling technique was used in this study to determine respondents in accordance with research needs. The research subjects consisted of 330 respondents, 156 male respondents and 175 female respondents. The research scale in this study consisted of the gratitude scale, the scale of forgiveness, and the scale of marital satisfaction. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between gratitude and forgiveness to the marriage satisfaction of the people of Rokan Hulu Regency. The expected target output in this study is that rural communities are more aware of marital satisfaction, gratitude, and forgiveness. The results of this study can also be used as a reference regarding the household life of the Rokan Hulu community and as psychoeducation for married couples.

Association Between Sources of Knowledge on Human Sexual Behaviour and Marital Satisfaction among Married People in Meru County

This study examines the sources of knowledge on sexual behaviour among married. Risky sexual behaviour is a problem that leads to dissatisfaction in many marriages in the world. Most conflicts in marriages are as a result of risky sexual behaviour. Sources of knowledge on sexual behaviour are instrumental in how a person manages their sexuality in marriage. How married persons manage affects satisfaction in marriage. There is a decline in marital satisfaction in Meru County as manifested by increase in marital violence, divorces and court cases related to custody and maintenance of children. Knowledge of sexual behaviour is a major contributor to marital satisfaction yet the association between sources of knowledge on sexual behaviour and marital satisfaction in Meru County had not been clearly established. This study intended fill the gap by establishing, the sources of knowledge on sexual behaviour and marital satisfaction in Meru County. The study adopted a causal-comparative research methodology. The target population of the study is 474,263 married people in Meru County from whom a sample of 384 respondents was drawn using multi-stage sampling. Data was collected from married people using questionnaires and Focus Group Discussions. Interview schedules were used to collect data from sexuality educators and marriage counsellors. Data obtained was analysed with the help of Statistical Package for Social Science for both descriptive and inferential statistics. A weak positive correlation which was not significant was demonstrated when sources of knowledge on sexual behaviour were correlated with marital satisfaction ( r s =0.050, p =0.393). Partners’ Sexual Satisfaction in Partnership and Marriage: A Study Method

The article presents a new Polish tool serving to measure the degree of sexual satisfaction achieved with a particular partner. It is a three-factor tool (measuring intimacy, petting, and sex) comprising 10 items that meet standardization requirements completely. The results of the performed factor validity analysis indicate that the three-factor model is the most valid for the purpose of description of sexual satisfaction measured with the SSQ (Sexual Satisfaction Questionnaire)—the aspects of satisfaction singled out in the model are strongly correlated. The three dimensions of satisfaction that were distinguished describe intimacy in a romantic relationship, satisfaction with one’s sex life, and satisfaction with mutual physical contacts other than sex. The cross-validation tests revealed that such a factor structure of the SSQ is stable and characteristic for the representatives of both of the sexes as well as married people. The three-factor structure significantly merges into a single global indicator only in the case of people maintaining partnerships, which advocates verification of a hypothesis regarding differences in the way married and cohabiting partners experience sexual satisfaction.

Within-couple configuration of gender-related attitudes and its association with marital satisfaction in Chinese marriage: A dyadic, pattern-analytic approach.

This study seeks to understand the ways in which spouses' gender-related attitudes are configured within couples and how such configurations are linked to marital satisfaction in Chinese marriage. Latent profile analysis was conducted using dyadic data from a nationwide large sample of Chinese couples from the China Family Panel Studies (N=7,257 couples; Myears of marriage = 28.36, SD = 12.84; Mage for wives = 52.38, SD = 12.63; Mage for husbands = 50.51, SD = 12.37). Four profile groups were identified: the "modern female and traditional male" group (MFTM); the "traditional female and modern male" group; the "child-oriented" group; and the "traditional female and traditional male" group. Husbands' and wives' marital satisfaction varied across groups in different patterns (yet all relevant effect sizes were modest). In general, husbands in the congruent group reported higher satisfaction than did those in the incongruent groups, whereas wives in the "MFTM" group reported lower satisfaction than did those in the other groups. Such findings shed light on the understudied heterogeneity that inherently exists in the within-couple patterning of gender-related attitudes and its implications for marital well-being in a Chinese cultural context.

The article analyzes the phenomenon of parenting stress: the concept, structure, and factors that influence its emergence. The analysis of foreign studies revealed 3 main groups of factors of parenting stress in mothers of early- and preschool- aged children: child’s characteristics, personality characteristics and mother’s socio-demographic characteristics, socio-psychological factors. The study showed that parenting stress in this group of mothers interplays with the temperament of the child, his health and age. As personal characteristics are concerned, the closest relations were found with the neuroticism of the mother and her assessment of self-efficacy. The review also revealed the effect of depression and psychopathology on maternal personality and constructive coping strategies which help to reduce parenting stress. The experience of neglect and abuse in childhood, a low level of marriage satisfaction and social support contribute to increased parenting stress of mothers having children of early and preschool age

The investigation of environmental specifics of an autistic child’s family system

The paper is devoted to the actual nowadays problem of environmental specifics of an autistic child’s family system. The relevance of the chosen theme is grounded in the paper. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of of related to the problem fundamental theoretical concepts of Russian and translated authors. The paper also presents the outcomes of empirical research and displays statistically significant distinction between psychological indicators of the environment of autistic children’s families and those of families with ordinary children according to such parameters as: roles, rules, control, cooperation, discipline, acceptance/rejection, emotional bond. Considerable distinction between the type of family cohesion and the type of family adaptation of an autistic child’s family system in comparison to the family system of an ordinary child is described. Statistical reliability of correlation between an autistic child’s and an ordinary child’s family system and characteristics of the type of the family (dysfunctional, semifunctional, functional) is analyzed. The paper provides the analysis of distinction between the level of marriage satisfaction in autistic child’s families and in ordinary child’s families.

FINANCIAL STRAIN, FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT PRACTICES, MARITAL SATISFACTION AND MARITAL STABILITY AMONG NEWLYWEDS

Money does matter especially in the family life and it affects marital satisfaction and marital stability. The purposes of this study are to examine the relationship between financial strain and financial management practices, and marital satisfaction and marital stability. 278 married individuals were involved in this study who was within 5 years of marriage. The In-Charge Financial Distress/Financial Well-Being (IFDFW) Scale, Financial Management Behavior Scale (FMBS), Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale (KMSS) and Marital Instability Index (MII) were used for data collection. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation. The findings showed that there was significant relationship among financial strain, financial management practices, marital satisfaction, marital stability, financial management practices and marital satisfaction. Therefore, it can be concluded that financial does play an important role in satisfaction and stability of marriage.

Marital satisfaction among girls with early marriage in Iran: emotional intelligence and religious orientation

ABSTRACTThis study investigates marital satisfaction, emotional intelligence, and religious orientation among women with early marriage in Iran. The ‘emotional intelligence scale’, ‘religious orientation scale’ and ‘marital satisfaction scale’ were used and a rare set of data from 194 women with early marriage were collected. The results of Pearson’s correlation showed a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and marital satisfaction (P < 0.001, r = 0.38), and age at marriage and marital satisfaction (P < 0.005, r = 0.20). The results of the multiple linear regression analysis showed that emotional intelligence (P < 0.001, B = 0.33) and age at marriage (P < 0.05, B = 0.90) are predictive of marital satisfaction among girls with early marriage in Iran and explain 16.4% of the variation of women’s marital satisfaction. A greater understanding of the factors increasing or reducing the marital satisfaction may help the marital satisfaction of women with early marriage in Iran.

Marriage Dissatisfaction and the Risk of Sudden Cardiac Death Among Men

Conflicts in marriage have been associated with potential risk of cardiovascular disease; however, there is lack of prospective evidence on the association between marriage satisfaction and sudden cardiac death (SCD). We aimed to assess the association between perceived level of marriage satisfaction and risk of SCD. This study employed the Kuopio Ischemic Heart Disease study, an ongoing prospective population-based study in Finland. Perceived level of marriage satisfaction was assessed in 2,262 men using a well-structured self-administered questionnaire. Multivariable adjusted Cox regression models were used to estimate hazard ratios (95% confidence interval [CI]) for SCD. During a median follow-up period of 25.9 years, 239 SCDs were recorded. The mean age of participants was 53 (SD 5.2) years. On adjustment for several conventional cardiovascular risk factors, hazard ratio (95% CI) of SCD was 1.90 (CI 1.09 to 3.32; p = 0.02) for men who were dissatisfied with their marriage, compared with men who were satisfied with their marriage. The association remained consistent on further adjustment for preexisting coronary heart disease, socioeconomic status, and years of education 1.86 (CI 1.07 to 3.25; p = 0.03). In conclusion, dissatisfied marriage is associated with an increased risk of SCD among middle-aged Caucasian men, independent of conventional cardiovascular risk factors.

Marital Satisfaction, Communication and Coping Strategy Among Malaysian Married Couples: Factors Prediction and Model Testing

Empirical evidences on the understanding of marital satisfaction as a multidimensional construct in the context of a multicultural multi-religious society are found to be limited. In this study, an attempt has been made to predict and hypothesize the factors in influencing marital satisfaction, communication and coping strategy in marriage among Malaysian married couples. Using 5-Likert scale agreement, the new Marital Satisfaction Scale has been constructed and administered among 150 respondents in a cross-sectional survey, Descriptive statistics and backward Multiple Regression Analysis (MRA) were adopted to ensure the models were estimated based on the contributions from each predictor to determine the model specification. The results have shown that the best predicted models of Marital Satisfaction and Communication are explained by 76% of variance while the prediction of Coping strategy is explained by 30% of variance. This study has recognized the usefulness of multiple regression analysis in model testing before further research on model prediction via Structural Equation Modeling is conducted. A newly hypothesized Marital Satisfaction Model was initiated by integrating the VSA Model of Marriage (Karney and Bradburry, 1995). This study is significant in contributing to pre/post-marital education and counseling fields as well as in crafting a better intervention strategy to promote a more satisfying marital institution.

Loving God, Loving Others: The Sacred Among American Mainline Protestant Families

Quantitative research suggests a link between religion and increased relationship commitment, satisfaction, and quality in marriages and parenting. Less is known about the processes and meaning-making experiences of religious individuals and families and how or why such processes exist and function with a family context. Using in-depth qualitative interviews, 20 Mainline Protestant families (N = 47 individuals; 20 mothers, 20 fathers, and 7 youth) were examined. Major findings revealed that intra-personal sanctification (i.e., sacred relationship with God) influenced inter-personal sanctification (i.e., sacred relationships with others), across three domains: general life strengths, as well as marital and parent-child strengths. Additional findings suggested that sacred beliefs and religious practices were utilized for receiving support from God, a framework of purpose, increased unity between spouses and parent–child dyads.
