The clinical and biomechanical effects of customized foot orthoses in individuals with plantar heel pain: A pre-post intervention study

BackgroundCustomized foot orthoses (CFOs) are often recommended for the management of plantar heel pain. However, there is a lack of information regarding lower limb and multi-segment foot motion during gait. Research questionThis study aimed to determine the effects of heat moulded CFOs on foot and lower limb kinematics when compared with prefabricated foot orthoses (PFOs) and wearing no orthoses (shod condition), and to determine the short-term effects of CFOs on pain intensity and foot function. MethodsThe immediate effects of CFOs on the lower limb and multi-segment foot motion were assessed. Participants were then asked to use the CFOs for one month and foot pain, function, and temporal-spatial parameters were assessed at baseline and at one month follow up. ResultsThirty-five participants (22 females), aged 40.1 (10.5) years, with a mean duration of symptoms of 12.59 months were recruited. The symptomatic limbs showed a higher forefoot varus angle and greater rearfoot and forefoot corrections were required compared to the non-symptomatic limbs. When compared with PFOs and shod conditions, CFOs provided the least forefoot and knee motion in the transverse plane during contact phase (P < 0.05, d=0.844–1.720), least rearfoot motion in the coronal plane during midstance (P < 0.05, d=0.652), and least forefoot motion in the frontal plane, knee motion in the transverse plane, and hallux motion during the propulsive phase (P < 0.05, d=0.921–1.513). Significant improvements were seen for foot pain and function (P < 0.05, d=1.390–2.231) with significant increases in cadence and walking velocity after one month of CFO use (P < 0.05, d=0.315–0.353), and those most likely to respond had greater pain and less ankle eversion (P < 0.05, d=0.855–1.115). SignificanceCFOs appear to improve pathological biomechanics associated with plantar heel pain. After one month follow up, the CFOs decreased pain intensity and increased foot function, and showed significant improvements in temporal and spatial parameters of gait.

Analyzing the Interaction between Clinical, Neurophysiological and Psychological Outcomes Underlying Chronic Plantar Heel Pain: A Network Analysis Study.

Plantar heel pain (PHP) is one of the most common foot pain conditions in adults. Several biological and psychological factors could be involved in chronic PHP in a complex matrix. However, reciprocal interactions between these factors are unknown. The aim of the present study was to use network analysis to quantify potential multivariate relationships between pain-related, function, clinical, mechanosensitivity, psychological, and health-related variables in individuals with PHP. Demographic (age, gender), pain-related (pain intensity), function, clinical (myofascial trigger points [TrPs]), mechanosensitivity (pressure pain thresholds), psychological (Beck Depression Inventory), and health-related variables (EQ-5D-5L) were collected in 81 PHP patients. Network connectivity analysis was conducted to quantify the adjusted correlations between the modeled variables and to assess their centrality indices. The connectivity network showed local associations between pain-related variables, foot function, and mechanosensitivity. Additionally, associations between quality of life, depression, and pain-related variables were found, while TrPs was associated with quality of life and mechanosensitivity. The node with the highest strength centrality was the worst pain intensity, while mechanosensitivity and worst pain intensity showed the highest closeness and betweenness centrality. This is the first study to apply network modeling to understand the connections between pain-related, function, clinical, mechanosensitivity, psychological, and health-related variables in PHP. The role of pain severity and mechanosensitivity is highlighted and supported by the network. Thus, this study reveals potential factors that could be the target in the management of PHP, promoting a comprehensive and effective therapeutic approach.

Management of plantar heel pain in general practice in Australia.

Studies have described general practitioner (GP) management of plantar heel pain from some countries; however, there is limited information from Australian general practice. To describe patient and GP characteristics, and management actions for plantar heel pain in Australian general practice. Secondary analysis of data from the Bettering the Evaluation and Care of Health (BEACH) dataset. Data were summarised using descriptive analysis and robust 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated around point estimates. Multivariate logistic regression identified predictors of plantar heel pain management. From 1,568,100 encounters between April 2000 and March 2016, plantar heel pain was managed at 3007 encounters. GPs manage plantar heel pain approximately once every 500 encounters, which extrapolates to 271,100 encounters in 2015-2016. Patient factors independently associated with plantar heel pain encounters included female sex (OR 1.27, 95% CI 1.17-1.34 cf. males), being aged 45-64 (OR 3.44, 95% CI 2.94-4.01 cf. aged 75+) and patients from a non-English speaking background (OR 1.22, 95% CI 1.07-1.39). Plantar heel pain was frequently managed using medication (45.1 per 100), with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs the most common (22.8 per 100). GPs also commonly provided counselling/advice/education (32.4 per 100), and referrals for diagnostic imaging (19.1 per 100) and to podiatrists (12.0 per 100). Plantar heel pain is a frequently managed foot condition in Australian general practice. GPs use medication, counselling and education, diagnostic imaging and referral to podiatrists for management. Further research is required to understand the drivers of these management actions and whether they are effective.

Cost-Effectiveness of Two Dry Needling Interventions for Plantar Heel Pain: A Secondary Analysis of an RCT.

Plantar heel pain is a common cause of foot pain that affects patients’ quality of life and represents a significant cost for the healthcare system. Dry needling and percutaneous needle electrolysis are two minimally invasive treatments that were shown to be effective for the management of plantar heel pain. The aim of our study was to compare these two treatments in terms of health and economic consequences based on the results of a published randomized controlled trial. For this, we evaluated the costs from the point of view of the hospital and we carried out a cost-effectiveness study using quality of life as the main variable according to the Eq-5D-5L questionnaire. The cost of the complete treatment with dry needling (DN) was €178.86, while the percutaneous needle electrolysis (PNE) was €200.90. The quality of life of patients improved and was translated into +0.615 quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) for DN and +0.669 for PNE. PNE presented an average incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) of €411.34/QALY against DN. These results indicate that PNE had a better cost-effectiveness ratio for the treatment of plantar heel pain than DN.

Introduction: Plantar Fasciitis (PF) is an overuse syndrome as it develops over time. It is most frequently seen in both the non-athletic and athletic populations. PF is a multifactorial and self-limiting disorder that several factors are involved in its onset. Many well-established treatments are available for plantar heel pain. The purpose of this review is to determine the effectiveness of dry needling for the management of PF.&#x0D; Materials and Methods: This article is a review study, in which we present the studies that compare dry needling with other treatments for the management of plantar heel pain. We included all of the studies on patients with plantar heel pain and plantar fasciitis that investigated the effects of dry needling. Finally, seven articles were included in this review. The study designs were randomized controlled, quasi-experimental, and case-control. The Physiotherapy Evidence-based Database (PED) scale was used to measure the methodological quality of the studies.&#x0D; Results: The PEDro scoring of the articles ranged between 2.10-7.10. The results of this review show that dry needling may be useful in improving the pain of individuals with plantar heel pain and plantar fasciitis.&#x0D; Conclusion: Further high-quality research studies are needed to determine the effectiveness of dry needling in the management of plantar heel pain. Because a variety of protocol treatments of dry needling were used in the studies, we cannot recommend dry needling schedule prescriptions for the management of individuals with plantar heel pain and plantar fasciitis.

Effectiveness of physical therapy treatment in addition to usual podiatry management of plantar heel pain: a randomized clinical trial

BackgroundMany patients will seek care from a podiatrist for plantar heel pain (PHP), while few of these patients will also be seen by a physical therapist. Physical therapists can provide treatment that is not a part of routine podiatric care for PHP and may provide additional improvement. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the effects of interdisciplinary care for PHP that incorporated physical therapy treatment after initiating podiatric treatment.MethodsEligible individuals with PHP that presented to a podiatrist were randomized to receive usual podiatric care (uPOD) or usual podiatric care plus physical therapy treatment (uPOD+PT). The primary outcome was change in foot and ankle ability measure (FAAM) at 6-months. Secondary outcomes included change in numeric pain rating scale (NPRS), patient-reported success, and 6-week and 1-year endpoints. Patient-reported success was defined as the top two global rating of change scale rankings. Primary analysis was intention-to-treat (ITT) using analysis by covariance adjusted to baseline scores, and a secondary per-protocol (PP) analysis was performed analyzing only those who completed treatment.ResultsNinety-five individuals participated and were included in the ITT analysis, and 79 were included in the PP analysis. For the primary outcome of FAAM change from baseline to 6-months, both groups improved significantly (uPOD+PT: 26.8 [95% CI 21.6, 31.9]; uPOD: (20 [15.6, 24.4]), but there was no between-group difference (4.3 [− 1, 9.6]). For secondary outcomes, the uPOD+PT group demonstrated greater improvement in NPRS at 6 weeks (0.9 [0.3, 1.4]) and 1 year (1.5 [0.6, 2.5]) in the ITT analysis. In the PP analysis, the uPOD+PT group demonstrated greater improvement in FAAM at 6 months (7.7 [2.1, 13.3]) and 1 year (5.5 [0.1, 10.8]), NPRS at 6 weeks (0.9 [0.2, 1.6]), 6 months (1.3 [0.6, 2.1]) and 1 year (1.3 [0.6, 2.1]), and in patient-reported success (relative risk [95% CI]) at 6 weeks (2.8 [1.1, 7.1]), 6 months (1.5 [1.1, 2.1]), and 1 year (1.5 [1.1, 1.9]).ConclusionsThere was no significant benefit of uPOD+PT in the primary outcome of FAAM change at 6 months. Secondary outcomes and PP analysis indicated additional benefit of uPOD+PT, mostly observed in individuals who completed treatment.Trial registrationProspectively registered May 24, 2013 at www.clinicaltrials.gov (NCT01865734).

Incidence, prevalence, and management of plantar heel pain: a retrospective cohort study in Dutch primary care.

Plantar heel pain (PHP) is a common cause of foot complaints in general practice. However, information on the occurrence and practical management is scarce. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence and prevalence of PHP in Dutch primary care and to gain insight into the types of treatments provided to patients with PHP in primary care. A cohort study was conducted using a healthcare database containing the electronic general practice medical records of approximately 1.9 million patients throughout the Netherlands. A search algorithm was defined and used to identify cases of PHP from January 2013 to December 2016. Descriptive statistics were used to obtain the incidence and prevalence. Data on the management of PHP were manually validated in a random sample of 1000 patients. The overall incidence of PHP was 3.83 cases (95% confidence interval [CI] = 3.77 to 3.89) per 1000 patient-years, the incidence in females was 4.64 (95% CI = 4.55 to 4.72), and 2.98 (95% CI = 2.91 to 3.05) in males. The overall prevalence of PHP was 0.4374% (95% CI = 0.4369 to 0.4378%). Incidence of PHP peaked in September and October of each calendar year. The most commonly applied strategies were a wait-and-see policy (18.0%, n = 168), use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (19.9%, n = 186), referral to a paramedical podiatric specialist (19.7%, n = 184), and advice to wear insoles (16.4%, n = 153). Treatment strategies varied greatly among GPs. There was large variation in treatment strategies of GPs for patients with PHP. GPs should be aware of conflicting evidence for interventions, such as insoles, and focus more on exercises for which there is evidence for effectiveness.

The most commonly applied interventions included prescription for NSAID (19.9%), referral to a paramedical podiatric specialist (19.7%), and advice to wear insoles (16.4%): 34.0% of patients received multiple interventions (range 2–11) and 30.9% had multiple consultations for PHP (range 2–8).ConclusionPHP appears to be common in primary care. Despite a lack of evidence for most treatments, multiple interventions are applied. This urges the need for future research on effectiveness of treatments.

Clinical and Functional Characteristics of People With Chronic and Recent-Onset Plantar Heel Pain

BackgroundPlantar heel pain is a common condition that reduces health-related quality of life. Recovery usually occurs within 12 months; however, up to 20% of people remain symptomatic beyond this time frame. The level of pain and function in this chronic heel pain group is not well described. ObjectiveTo identify clinical and functional characteristics associated with chronic plantar heel pain compared with heel pain of recent onset. DesignCross-sectional study. SettingUniversity research laboratory and private physiotherapy clinic. ParticipantsA total of 71 people with plantar heel pain for longer than 12 months and 64 people with plantar heel pain for less than 6 months were recruited from the general public. MethodsFunctional characteristics of participants in both heel pain groups were assessed with a variety of clinical measures and the Foot Health Status Questionnaire. Clinical measures included body mass index, foot and ankle muscle strength using hand-held dynamometry, as well as ankle and first metatarsophalangeal joint range of motion. The Foot Health Status Questionnaire was used to collect self-reported measures of foot pain severity, foot function and physical activity. Main Outcome MeasurementsUnivariate analyses of variance were performed to detect differences between the 2 groups for each of the variables measured. ResultsThe chronic heel pain group exhibited reduced ankle dorsiflexor and toe flexor strength yet better self-reported foot function. There was no difference between groups for body mass index, ankle and first metatarsophalangeal joint range of motion, inversion strength, eversion strength, calf endurance, self-reported foot pain, and physical activity. ConclusionsChronic plantar heel pain is associated with selective weakness of foot and ankle muscle groups but less affected foot function compared with heel pain of recent onset. Those with chronic symptoms may moderate or make adaptations to their daily activities, or simply accept their condition, enabling more effective coping. Strength deficits, although possibly a cause or consequence of chronic symptoms, suggest a need to include resistance exercise in the management of plantar heel pain. Level of EvidenceIV

The association between pain catastrophising and kinesiophobia with pain and function in people with plantar heel pain

BackgroundPsychological variables, including catastrophic thoughts and kinesiophobia, are common in people with chronic musculoskeletal pain and are associated with pain and function. However, the role of each factor has not been evaluated in people with plantar heel pain (plantar fasciitis). MethodsThirty-six participants diagnosed with plantar heel pain were recruited. Main outcome measures included the Pain Catastrophising Scale, Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia, the Foot Health Status Questionnaire and a Visual Analogue Scale. Hierarchical regression models were developed to evaluate the association between each psychological variable with variations in foot pain, first step pain and foot function. ResultsIn a full model with age, sex and BMI, kinesiophobia contributed to 21% of the variability in foot function and was a significant predictor in this model (Beta=−0.49, P=0.006). In a separate model, catastrophising explained 39% of the variability in foot function and was a significant predictor in this model (Beta=−0.65, P<0.001). Finally, pain catastrophising accounted for 18% of the variability in first step pain and was a significant predictor in a model that also included age, sex and BMI (Beta=0.44, P=0.008). ConclusionsAfter controlling for age, sex and BMI, kinesiophobia and catastrophising were significantly associated with foot function, while catastrophising was associated with first step pain in people with plantar heel pain. In addition to addressing biological factors in the management of plantar heel pain, clinicians should consider the potential role of pain catastrophising and kinesiophobia in this population.

Musculoskeletal and Activity-Related Factors Associated With Plantar Heel Pain

Despite the prevalence and impact of plantar heel pain, its etiology remains poorly understood, and there is no consensus regarding optimum management. The identification of musculoskeletal factors related to the presence of plantar heel pain could lead to the development of better targeted intervention strategies and potentially improve clinical outcomes. The aim of this study was to investigate relationships between a number of musculoskeletal and activity-related measures and plantar heel pain. In total, 202 people with plantar heel pain and 70 asymptomatic control participants were compared on a variety of musculoskeletal and activity-related measures, including body mass index (BMI), foot and ankle muscle strength, calf endurance, ankle and first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint range of motion, foot alignment, occupational standing time, exercise level, and generalized hypermobility. Following a comparison of groups for parity of age, analyses of covariance were performed to detect differences between the 2 groups for any of the variables measured. The plantar heel pain group displayed a higher BMI, reduced ankle dorsiflexion range of motion, reduced ankle evertor and toe flexor strength, and an altered inversion/eversion strength ratio. There were no differences between groups for foot alignment, dorsiflexor or invertor strength, ankle inversion or eversion range of motion, first MTP joint extension range of motion, generalized hypermobility, occupational standing time, or exercise level. Plantar heel pain is associated with higher BMI and reductions in some foot and ankle strength and flexibility measures. Although these factors could be either causal or consequential, they are all potentially modifiable and could be targeted in the management of plantar heel pain. Level III, comparative study.

BackgroundPrevious studies have reported that stretching of the calf musculature and the plantar fascia are effective management strategies for plantar heel pain (PHP). However, it is unclear whether myofascial release (MFR) can improve the outcomes in this population. ObjectiveTo investigate whether myofascial release (MFR) reduces the pain and functional disability associated with plantar heel pain (PHP) in comparison with a control group receiving sham ultrasound therapy (SUST). DesignRandomized, controlled, double blinded trial. SettingNonprofit research foundation clinic in India. MethodSixty-six patients, 17 men and 49 women with a clinical diagnosis of PHP were randomly assigned into MFR or a control group and given 12 sessions of treatment per client over 4 weeks. The Foot Function Index (FFI) scale was used to assess pain severity and functional disability. The primary outcome measure was the difference in FFI scale scores between week 1 (pretest score), week 4 (posttest score), and follow-up at week 12 after randomization. Additionally, pressure pain thresholds (PPT) were assessed over the affected gastrocnemii and soleus muscles, and over the calcaneus, by an assessor blinded to the treatment allocation. ResultsThe simple main effects analysis showed that the MFR group performed better than the control group in weeks 4 and 12 (P<0.001). Patients in the MFR and control groups reported a 72.4% and 7.4% reduction, respectively, in their pain and functional disability in week 4 compared with that in week 1, which persisted as 60.6% in the follow-up at week 12 in the MFR group compared to the baseline. The mixed ANOVA also revealed significant group-by-time interactions for changes in PPT over the gastrocnemii and soleus muscles, and the calcaneus (P<0.05). ConclusionsThis study provides evidence that MFR is more effective than a control intervention for PHP.

Graston Instrument Soft Tissue Mobilization and Home Stretching for the Management of Plantar Heel Pain: A Case Series

Objective The purpose of this prospective case series was to describe the outcome of a set of patients with plantar fasciitis treated with Graston Instrument Soft Tissue Mobilization techniques (GT) and a home stretching program. Methods Ten patients with a primary report of plantar heel pain completed self-report questionnaires including the Global Rating of Change Scale (GRC), the Numeric Pain Rating Scale, and the Lower Extremity Functional Scale. Patients were treated with GT directed to the triceps surae, soleus, plantar fascia, and medial calcaneal tubercle. Participants received a maximum of 8 treatments over a time frame ranging from 3 to 8 weeks at a frequency of 1 to 2 sessions per week. Each patient was instructed to perform the stretching program at home 3 times daily. Patients completed all outcome measures at baseline, sixth visit (GRC), and at discharge or the eighth visit. The number of successful outcomes on the GRC was examined using a binomial test. Dependent t tests were used to examine if a significant difference existed in secondary outcome measures of pain and function. Results The subjects had a mean duration of symptoms of 32.4 weeks (SD, 31.1). Patients were treated for an average of 6.9 visits (SD, 1.3). There was a statistically significant difference between the number of patients who did and did not achieve a successful outcome ( P = .047). There was also a significant improvement from baseline to follow-up for the Numeric Pain Rating Scale ( P = .002) and Lower Extremity Functional Scale ( P = .017). Conclusions The group of patients selected for this case series who were treated with GT and home stretching experienced clinically meaningful improvement.

Effectiveness of Myofascial Trigger Point Manual Therapy Combined With a Self-Stretching Protocol for the Management of Plantar Heel Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial

A randomized controlled clinical trial. To investigate the effects of trigger point (TrP) manual therapy combined with a self-stretching program for the management of patients with plantar heel pain. Previous studies have reported that stretching of the calf musculature and the plantar fascia are effective management strategies for plantar heel pain. However, it is not known if the inclusion of soft tissue therapy can further improve the outcomes in this population. Sixty patients, 15 men and 45 women (mean ± SD age, 44 ± 10 years) with a clinical diagnosis of plantar heel pain were randomly divided into 2 groups: a self-stretching (Str) group who received a stretching protocol, and a self-stretching and soft tissue TrP manual therapy (Str-ST) group who received TrP manual interventions (TrP pressure release and neuromuscular approach) in addition to the same self-stretching protocol. The primary outcomes were physical function and bodily pain domains of the quality of life SF-36 questionnaire. Additionally, pressure pain thresholds (PPT) were assessed over the affected gastrocnemii and soleus muscles, and over the calcaneus, by an assessor blinded to the treatment allocation. Outcomes of interest were captured at baseline and at a 1-month follow-up (end of treatment period). Mixed-model ANOVAs were used to examine the effects of the interventions on each outcome, with group as the between-subjects variable and time as the within-subjects variable. The primary analysis was the group-by-time interaction. The 2 × 2 mixed-model analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed a significant group-by-time interaction for the main outcomes of the study: physical function (P = .001) and bodily pain (P = .005); patients receiving a combination of self-stretching and TrP tissue intervention experienced a greater improvement in physical function and a greater reduction in pain, as compared to those receiving the self-stretching protocol. The mixed ANOVA also revealed significant group-by-time interactions for changes in PPT over the gastrocnemii and soleus muscles, and the calcaneus (all P<.001). Patients receiving a combination of self-stretching and TrP tissue intervention showed a greater improvement in PPT, as compared to those who received only the self-stretching protocol. This study provides evidence that the addition of TrP manual therapies to a self-stretching protocol resulted in superior short-term outcomes as compared to a self-stretching program alone in the treatment of patients with plantar heel pain. Manual Physical Therapy and Exercise Versus Electrophysical Agents and Exercise in the Management of Plantar Heel Pain: A Multicenter Randomized Clinical Trial

Randomized clinical trial. To compare the effectiveness of 2 different conservative management approaches in the treatment of plantar heel pain. There is insufficient evidence to establish the optimal physical therapy management strategies for patients with heel pain, and little evidence of long-term effects. Patients with a primary report of plantar heel pain underwent a standard evaluation and completed a number of patient self-report questionnaires, including the Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS), the Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM), and the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS). Patients were randomly assigned to be treated with either an electrophysical agents and exercise (EPAX) or a manual physical therapy and exercise (MTEX) approach. Outcomes of interest were captured at baseline and at 4-week and 6-month follow-ups. The primary aim (effects of treatment on pain and disability) was examined with a mixed-model analysis of variance (ANOVA). The hypothesis of interest was the 2-way interaction (group by time). Sixty subjects (mean [SD] age, 48.4 [8.7] years) satisfied the eligibility criteria, agreed to participate, and were randomized into the EPAX (n = 30) or MTEX group (n = 30). The overall group-by-time interaction for the ANOVA was statistically significant for the LEFS (P = .002), FAAM (P = .005), and pain (P = .043). Between-group differences favored the MTEX group at both 4-week (difference in LEFS, 13.5; 95% CI: 6.3, 20.8) and 6-month (9.9; 95% CI: 1.2, 18.6) follow-ups. The results of this study provide evidence that MTEX is a superior management approach over an EPAX approach in the management of individuals with plantar heel pain at both the short- and long-term follow-ups. Future studies should examine the contribution of the different components of the exercise and manual physical therapy programs. Therapy, level 1b.

Randomized Controlled Trial of Calcaneal Taping, Sham Taping, and Plantar Fascia Stretching for the Short-Term Management of Plantar Heel Pain

Prospective, experimental, randomized, single-factor, pretest/posttest design. To examine the effects of a calcaneal and Achilles-tendon-taping technique, utilizing only 4 pieces of tape and not involving the medial arch, on the symptoms of plantar heel pain. Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel and foot pain. Physical therapists have applied many techniques in an attempt to relieve the symptoms of plantar heel pain, including various taping methods for which there is little existing evidence. Subjects (n=41) were randomly assigned into 4 groups: (1) stretching of the plantar fascia, (2) calcaneal taping, (3) control (no treatment), and (4) sham taping. A visual analog scale (VAS) for pain and a patient-specific functional scale (PSFS) for functional activities were measured pretreatment and after 1 week of treatment (posttreatment). A significant difference was found posttreatment among the groups for the VAS (P < .001). Specifically, significant differences were found between stretching and calcaneal taping (mean + SD, 4.6 +/- 0.7 versus 2.7 +/- 1.8; P = .006), stretching and control (mean +/- SD, 4.6 +/- 0.7 versus 6.2 +/- 1.0; P = .026), calcaneal taping and control (mean +/- SD, 2.7 +/- 1.8 versus 6.2 +/- 1.0; P < .001), and calcaneal taping and sham taping (mean +/- SD, 2.7 +/- 1.8 versus 6.0 +/- 0.9; P < .001). No significant difference among groups was found for posttreatment PSFS (P = .078). Calcaneal taping was shown to be a more effective tool for the relief of plantar heel pain than stretching, sham taping, or no treatment.
