Analysis of the Effect of Coal and Mineral Mining Safety Management System (SMKP Minerba) Implementation on the Mineral Exploration Drilling Company’s Safety Mining Performance at PT.

Background: In Indonesia, mining companies such as PT X, which has an IUJP for mineral exploration drilling, must implement SMKP Minerba. This system, which is aligned with government guidelines, includes seven elements such as Policy, Planning, Organization, Implementation, Evaluation, Documentation, and Review. Research purposes: The objective is to analyse the effect of implementing the Mineral and Coal Mining Safety Management System (SMKP Minerba) on the work safety performance of Mineral Exploration Drilling Company at PT X. Research methods: This study used a descriptive quantitative method and a case study approach, to analyse SMKP Minerba documents, including Mining Safety Performance records. Descriptive statistics, simple linear regression, and Pearson Correlation assessed variable impacts and relationships. From 144 engineers, the Slovin formula required a minimum sample of 98. Research result: The study reported that the Internal Audit of the Mineral and Coal Mining Safety Management System (SMKP Minerba) achieved a score of 84.1%. Mining safety performance was evaluated across four key indicators. Worker Participation, Leadership Responsibility, Incident Analysis and Statistics, Occupational Diseases and Incidents, and Risk Control Efforts, yielding an overall score of 0.78 out of 1, placing it in the "Planned" category. Pearson correlation analysis indicated a positive association between Position, Tenure, and SMKP Audit Scores with Mining Safety Performance. ANOVA demonstrated a significant impact of Position and Tenure on Mining Safety Performance. Conclusion: The study found that employees holding higher positions, possessing longer tenure, and achieving higher SMKP audit scores exhibited superior mining safety performance. The application of SMKP Minerba positively influences the safety performance in mining operations at PT X, contributing to the sustainable enhancement of mining safety practices in Indonesia.

Open-Pit Mining Area Extraction Using Multispectral Remote Sensing Images: A Deep Learning Extraction Method Based on Transformer

In the era of remote sensing big data, the intelligent interpretation of remote sensing images is a key technology for mining the value of remote sensing big data and promoting a number of major applications, mainly including land cover classification and extraction. Among these, the rapid extraction of open-pit mining areas plays a vital role in current practices for refined mineral resources development and management and ecological–environmental protection in China. However, existing methods are not accurate enough for classification, not fine enough for boundary extraction, and poor in terms of multi-scale adaptation. To address these issues, we propose a new semantic segmentation model based on Transformer, which is called Segmentation for Mine—SegMine—and consists of a Vision Transformer-based encoder and a lightweight attention mask decoder. The experimental results show that SegMine enhances the network’s ability to obtain local spatial detail information and improves the problem of disappearing small-scale object features and insufficient information expression. It also better preserves the boundary details of open-pit mining areas. Using the metrics of mIoU, precision, recall, and dice, experimental areas were selected for comparative analysis, and the results show that the new method is significantly better than six other existing major Transformer variants.

The application of the organizational learning perspective in explaining the government's internal auditor’s role development

The management of mineral and coal non-tax state revenue (PNBP Minerba) requires urgent attention and improvement, which can be achieved through appropriate oversight of internal auditors. This study assesses the efficacy of internal audit role development through an organizational learning perspective. Authors interviewed eleven informants from internal auditors of the inspectorate and auditees from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (KESDM) of the Republic of Indonesia. The data corroborates our theoretical framework within organizational significance theory, which states that the interconnection of the relationship between internal auditors and auditees, the internal audit process, and internal auditor resources culminates in the "results zone." Within this zone, internal audits yield effective outcomes that can positively influence the organization’s significance. This research reveals that auditees feel that an internal auditor’s findings and recommendations can influence their organization. This perspective can enhance PNBP Minerba management system and foster learning and organizational change. However, internal auditor recommendations have not effectively spurred organizational learning in KESDM, implying that KESDM is still in the developmental phase. This study stands out for its qualitative exploration of organizational characteristics, particularly the interplay between internal auditors and auditees, the internal audit process, and internal auditor resources.

Co-treating flue gas desulfurized effluent and produced water enables novel waste management and recovery of critical minerals

This study reports a novel approach of resource recovery from co-managing two geographically co-located and chemically complementary wastewaters using a pilot-scale treatment process. Designed to treat flue gas desulfurized (FGD) effluent from combustion powerplants and produced water (PW) from energy industries, the process consists of soda-ash softening, nanofiltration (NF), and reverse osmosis (RO). Recovered products are barite, calcite, and low-salinity water. Using field-collected waters, the results show that softening at pH ≈ 8.5 produces calcite (yield: ~30 kg/m3 treated water), a chemical used as SO₂(g) scrubbers. NF treatment under an applied pressure of ~3.5 MPa yields a permeate stream laden with monovalent ions (water recovery ~60 %) and a concentrate stream with a sulfate concentration ~1.8 times of the feedwater concentration. Mixing the NF concentrate and PW at a volumetric ratio of 1.0 precipitates a high-density barite material (4.1 g/cm3, yield: ~7.5 kg/m3 mixture) – a critical mineral commonly used as a weighting agent in drilling. The RO treatment recovers >64 % water as the permeate, which can be readily used as cooling make-up water at the powerplants. The RO concentrate stream can be further processed in a thermal evaporative system for additional water recovery and brine production.

#442 Hyperparathyroidism, serum phosphorus and dietary intake in hemodialysis patients: is there a novel relationship?

Abstract Background and Aims Hyperparathyroidism (HPTH), classified when intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) serum levels are above 585 pg/mL, is a common complication in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (HD). Despite there is little evidence about the relationship between iPTH levels and nutritional status, the intervention frequently focusses on appropriate management of mineral and bone markers, being the decrease of serum and dietary phosphorus some of the targets. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between iPTH, serum phosphorus levels and dietary intake. Method This was a cross-sectional, multicenter, observational study with 561 patients on HD treatment from 37 dialysis centers across Portugal. Clinical parameters, body composition and dietary intake (obtained from a Food Frequency Questionnaire) were assessed. For the analysis, patients were divided in 3 groups depending on their iPTH levels: a) iPTH<130, b) iPTH between 130-585 and c) iPTH >585 pg/mL. The association between PTH, serum phosphorus and dietary intake was analyzed with linear regression models. A p-value lower than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results Patients’ mean age was 68 ± 14 years, median HD vintage was 65 (IQR: 43-106) months and 58.8% were men. From the whole sample, 13.9% presented a iPTH <130 pg/mL, 59.3% between 130-585 pg/mL and 23.2% >585 pg/mL. Patients with higher iPTH levels were those with longer HD vintage (p = 0.021) and lower age (p = 0.002). At the same time, showed higher serum phosphorus (p = 0.005), serum calcium (p = 0.027), Ca/P product (p < 0.001), albumin (p = 0.016) and caffeine intake (p = 0.009). In addition, a lower dietary intake of phosphorus (p = 0.044), fiber (p = 0.047), riboflavin (p = 0.031) and folate (p = 0.011) were observed in patients with higher iPTH levels. In the linear regression models, higher serum phosphorus predicted higher iPTH levels, even in the adjusted model (p = 0.019). However, a lower phosphorus intake was a predictor of higher iPTH levels, also in the model adjusted to age, gender, serum phosphorus, dialysis adequacy (Kt/V) and dialysis vintage (p = 0.035). The same result was observed when considering the dietary fiber intake in the model (p = 0.048). No significant differences in body composition parameters were found. Conclusion Our results bring new data on the relationship between dietary intake and iPTH values. Despite higher serum phosphorus was observed in patients with HPTH, an opposite association was noted regarding dietary phosphate and fiber as lower intakes predicted higher iPTH values. Moreover, a poorer dietary intake, considering riboflavin and folate was observed in the HPTH group.

How has FinTech become a solution for minerals management?

Effectively managing natural resources is crucial for ensuring sustainable economic development, a topic that has been widely debated in recent decades. While numerous discussions have focused on the use of technology to optimize the utilization of natural resources, the previous studies have yet to delve into the role of financial technology (FinTech) in minerals management and energy transition concerning the resource curse/blessing hypothesis. To address this research objective, this study valuably adds to the empirical literature by investigating the role of FinTech and energy transition in economic growth to manage minerals. To accomplish this goal, panel data of the top 10 resource-rich economies that range from 1990 to 2022 based on novel panel estimations such as Cross-sectional autoregressive distributive lag (CS-ARDL) and panel Granger non-causality (Juodis et al., 2021) is taken. The outcomes of the study discovered that FinTech is positively influencing GDP in both the long- and short-run. The robust outcomes further reveal that minerals management (coal, oil, minerals, and forests) becomes a part of enriching GDP to confirm the resources blessing theory. The study analysis sets down the practical implications of formulating sustainable economic development policies for stakeholders.

Unlocking sustainable resource management: A comprehensive SWOT and thematic analysis of FinTech with a focus on mineral management

The mining sector faces growing demands for sustainable and responsible mineral management practices in light of the changing global economy and growing environmental concerns. This sector plays a role in economic growth in both developed and developing nations, which in turn contributes to the nation's overall social and economic well-being. The goal of sustainable mineral management is to achieve a balance between the need to reduce harmful effects on ecosystems and communities and the economic benefits of mineral resources. The integration of Financial Technology (FinTech) into organizations' workflow has gained attention in the field of sustainability and environmental protection. In order to acquire the requisite knowledge for informing strategic planning, decision-making processes, and strategy development, a comprehensive review of pertinent literature is imperative. This study aims to address this issue by conducting a thematic analysis of the literature in the context of sustainability and Fintech. Following that, an in-depth Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis of FinTech in sustainable mineral management is deployed. The study investigates FinTech's integration into sustainable mineral management to advance responsible resource extraction practices and sheds light on effective FinTech utilization while highlighting implementation challenges.

FinTech adoption in achieving ecologically sustainable mineral management in Asian OBOR countries – A cross-section and time autoregressive robust analysis

The balance between economic activity, economic growth, and ecosystem is a need of the time. Belt and Road Initiative countries working on the One Belt and One Road project (OBOR), constituting 130 countries, are participating with China to achieve growth via trade. These countries, where trade and commerce have influence, are rich in natural minerals as well as natural habitat and biodiversity. Along with infrastructural efforts, the world is also experiencing a growth in technology 4.0, specifically its gains in terms of financial innovation. This study has explored 27 countries from the Asian OBOR group and assessed the potential moderating role of FinTech on resource extraction sustainability. The results from multi-dimensional, long-term, and robust estimates showed that resource rents harm environmental performance and FinTech positively moderates this relationship. This study is instrumental for the policymakers in quantifying the hampering spillover/spatial effects and diminishing time horizon policy effectiveness.

Enhancing Socio-Economic Dynamics: Assessing Regional Governance and Mining Community Benefits post Law Number 3 of 2020 in North Maluku

Mining potential in Maluku Province is the largest contributor to nickel mining in Indonesia with nickel reserves of 39% and copper of 92.48% of the national total. Even though nickel and copper are potential resources in this region, they do not yet have production results that have added value and are highly competitive. Now various investors from China are investing in North Maluku with the above potential mining resources. In fact, China is now interested in building a nickel factory in North Maluku, specifically in North Halmahera. The issuance of Law Number 3 of 2020 concerning Amendments to Law Number 4 of 2009 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining is a transformation of mineral and coal policy relating to the management and utilization of mineral and coal in Indonesia. The consequence of the amendment to Law Number 4 of 2009, namely the elimination of regional government authority over the management of mineral and coal mining, was taken over by the central government, which applies nationally. The method used in this research is the Hybrid Method as an applied method. The limitation of this research is that it does not technically examine the ecological, economic and social modeling of mining studies in North Maluku. The recommendation of this research is that further in-depth review is needed from a legal, social, ecological and economic perspective to map and review Law No. 3 of 2020, the formation of a cross-sectoral task force to monitor the impact of the implementation of Law No. 3 of 2020 on the environmental and social sectors. and economics.

Implementation of safety management system in nickel mining: A case of PT Putra Perkasa Abadi Job Site MLP in 2023

Background: The audit of the Mineral and Coal Mining Safety Management System aims to obtain an overview of the level of implementation of the mineral and coal mining management system, assess the capacity of the mining system to ensure compliance with the legislative requirements, evaluate the effectiveness of mining systems in meeting the set targets and identify the potential application of the MSMS to be enhanced at the P.T. Putra Perkasa Eternal Site of PT Makmur Lestari Primatama from the period January 1, 2023 until December 2023. The purpose of this study was to find out the implementation of the safety management system in nickel mining of PT. Putra Perkasa Abadi Job Site MLP in 2023. Method: This type of research is quantitative descriptive. The research conducted in December 2023. Compliance measurements are carried out on 7 elements consisting of Policy, Planning, Organization and Personnel, Implementation, Monitoring, Evaluation and Follow-up Action, Documentation, and Management Review and Performance Improvement. Data collection methods are carried out with interviews, observations, and document explanations. Results: The policy element achieved 74% compliance from the maximum achievable value. Although the maximum value has not been reached, it still shows a good level of compliance. The planning element achieves 59% compliance from the maximum achievable value. Further evaluation is needed to understand the factors that lead to this achievement. Organizational and staff elements reach 51% compliance from the maximum value. Implementation elements reach 38% compliance. There is great potential for improvement in the implementation of this element. The monitoring, evaluation, and follow-up elements reached 46% compliance. More effort is needed to improve performance in this regard. Despite low maximum values, documentation elements reach 58% compliance, indicating a good focus on document management but still requiring optimization. Management review elements and performance improvements reached 46% compliance. This aspect can be a focus of improvement to improve overall performance. Overall, the management system achieved 49% compliance from the maximum value. Conclusion: In general, PT Putra Perkasa Abadi Job Site MLP has procedures and mechanisms that support the creation of a mining safety system. However, improvements are needed that can be directed to elements with lower compliance scores. It requires optimization of each element consisting of Policy, Planning, Organization and Personnel, Implementation, Monitoring, Evaluation and Follow-up, Documentation, as well as management review and performance improvement. Data collection methods were carried out using interviews, observation and document review.

FinTech revolution in mineral management: Exploring the nexus between technology adoption and sustainable Resource utilization in an industry 4.0 context

This study investigates the impact of FinTech adoption on sustainable mineral management policies in Australia within the context of Industry 4.0, using quarterly data from 1990Q1 to 2022Q4. Employing the ARDL-Bounds testing approach, Granger causality analysis, and innovation accounting matrix, the research finds a short-term positive association between FinTech adoption, technological readiness, and green mineral extraction. However, both in the short and long run, investment in sustainable mining technologies, government support for FinTech in mining, and environmental compliance exhibit a negative relationship with resource management. Bidirectional causality is observed between regulatory support for mining FinTech, technological finance solutions, and environmentally conscious mineral practices, while unidirectional causality exists from FinTech adoption to sustainable mining practices. Impulse response functions offer insights into the future impact of variables on eco-conscious mining policies, indicating positive influences from FinTech adoption, government support for FinTech in mining, and technological adaptability over the next decade. Conversely, eco-friendly mining investments, environmental conformity, and social license to operate will impact sustainable mineral utilization. Variance decomposition analysis highlights the most significant shocks on eco-friendly resource management over the next ten years, emphasizing the role of sustainable mining technologies, FinTech adoption, and public support for mining endeavours. In the transition to Industry 4.0, this research provides crucial insights for responsibly utilizing Australia's natural resources by leveraging financial technology and technological readiness.

Alkaline Phosphatase and Parathyroid Hormone Levels: International Variation and Associations With Clinical Outcomes in the DOPPS

BackgroundSecondary hyperparathyroidism increases the risk of fractures and cardiovascular (CV) disease in hemodialysis (HD) patients. The relationship between parathyroid hormone (PTH) and outcomes has been inconsistent, possibly due to variable bone responsiveness to PTH. The KDIGO guideline suggests monitoring total alkaline phosphatase (ALP), but the role of ALP versus PTH in the management of mineral and bone disorder is not clear. MethodsThe analysis included 28,888 HD patients in 9 countries in DOPPS phase 3-7 (2005-2021). The primary exposures of interest were normalized ALP and PTH – raw values divided by facility upper normal limit – measured at study enrollment. Cox models were used to estimate hazard ratios of all-cause/CV mortality and any/hip fracture adjusted for potential confounders. Linear mixed models, adjusted for potential confounders, were employed to investigate the relationship between normalized ALP levels and patient characteristics. ResultsNormalized PTH showed a J-shaped association with all-cause/CV mortality, and a weak linear association with fracture. In contrast, normalized ALP showed a strong association with all outcomes. Factors associated with higher ALP levels after controlling for PTH included Black race, longer dialysis vintage, diabetes mellitus, hypocalcemia, hypophosphatemia, elevated C-reactive protein, and the use of cinacalcet. ConclusionsTotal ALP is a more robust exposure of adverse outcomes than PTH in HD patients. PTH responsiveness is affected by race, primary renal disease, comorbidities, and mineral metabolism and therapy. Our results indicate that it may be useful to evaluate target organ response, rather than PTH alone when considering the consequences of secondary hyperparathyroidism.

BUMDes is a means of driving the economy through various types of business in accordance with the village's potential. BUMDes in Taliwang District, West Sumbawa Regency, has a Savings and Loans Business Unit (USP), procurement of Office Stationery (ATK), sales of Fuel Oil (BBM), procurement of fertilizers and agricultural medicines, trade in agricultural and marine products, as well as communication services and transportation. The BUMDes in Maluk District, West Sumbawa Regency, have various businesses such as village stalls, market units, building management, boarding houses, and waste levies. Lastly, BUMDes in Seteluk District, West Sumbawa Regency, has economic activities in the form of distribution of necessities, Savings and Loan Business Units (USP), food crop production, plantations, animal husbandry, and fisheries, as well as mining, special energy, and management of minerals C. Kajian Yuridis Kebijakan Pengelolaan Tambang di Wilayah Kabupaten Situbondo Ditinjau Berdasarkan Undang-Undang Nomor 3 Tahun 2020 tentang Pertambangan Mineral dan Batubara

This research was conducted to find out how mining management policies are reviewed based on Law Number 3 of 2020 concerning mineral and coal mining. In this research, the method used is normative juridical which focuses on the application of rules or norms in positive law to raise, discuss and explain the legal issues raised. Mining is some or all stages of activities in the context of research, management and exploitation of minerals or coal which includes general investigations, exploration, feasibility studies, construction, mining, processing and refining, transportation and sales, as well as post-mining activities. Mining is an activity carried out either simply (manually) or mechanically which includes preparation for scattering, loading and transporting excavated materials. Excavated goods contained in the Indonesian mining jurisdiction are national wealth which is a gift from God in the form of natural deposits.

Formation of mineral-associated organic matter in temperate soils is primarily controlled by mineral type and modified by land use and management intensity.

Formation of mineral-associated organic matter (MAOM) supports the accumulation and stabilization of carbon (C) in soil, and thus, is a key factor in the global C cycle. Little is known about the interplay of mineral type, land use and management intensity in MAOM formation, especially on subdecadal time scales. We exposed mineral containers with goethite or illite, the most abundant iron oxide and phyllosilicate clay in temperate soils, for 5 years in topsoils of 150 forest and 150 grassland sites in three regions across Germany. Results show that irrespective of land use and management intensity, more C accumulated on goethite than illite (on average 0.23 ± 0.10 and 0.06 ± 0.03 mg m-2 mineral surface respectively). Carbon accumulation across regions was consistently higher in coniferous forests than in deciduous forests and grasslands. Structural equation models further showed that thinning and harvesting reduced MAOM formation in forests. Formation of MAOM in grasslands was not affected by grazing. Fertilization had opposite effects on MAOM formation, with the positive effect being mediated by enhanced plant productivity and the negative effect by reduced plant species richness. This highlights the caveat of applying fertilizers as a strategy to increase soil C stocks in temperate grasslands. Overall, we demonstrate that the rate and amount of MAOM formation in soil is primarily driven by mineral type, and can be modulated by land use and management intensity even on subdecadal time scales. Our results suggest that temperate soils dominated by oxides have a higher capacity to accumulate and store C than those dominated by phyllosilicate clays, even under circumneutral pH conditions. Therefore, adopting land use and management practices that increase C inputs into oxide-rich soils that are under their capacity to store C may offer great potential to enhance near-term soil C sequestration.

Legal Policy for Community Welfare Based Mining Management

This paper focuses on community welfare-based mining management legal policies with the aim of improving the welfare of communities around the mine. The research method used is normative legal research with a statutory approach, case approach and conceptual approach. The results of the research show that the legal policy for managing metallic mineral mining in improving the welfare of communities around the mine is based on four main pillars, namely legal policy for democratic mineral and coal mining management, mineral and coal mining governance using good governance performance standards. Realizing social justice in the fifth principle of Pancasila, and monitoring and enforcing the law against perpetrators of environmental destruction and pollution in the mining sector. The concept of managing metal mineral (nickel) mining based on the welfare of communities around the mine involves regulations regarding licensing, land use, regional development, CSR programs, and participation of local communities in community development programs implemented by mining companies.

It is metabolized into PTH fragments, which are measured to a different extent by PTH assays of different generations because of differences in fragments recognized and lack of assay standardization. Therefore, we developed an LC-MS/MS method for 1-84 PTH and aimed to compare with immunoassay among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages 3 to 5 not yet on dialysis. Methods Blood samples were collected from 252 patients with CKD stages 3 to 5. PTH concentrations were measured simultaneously by using the second-generation—PTH intact and immunocapture in situ digestion LC-MS/MS spectrometry assays. The severity of the kidney disease was based on the eGFR calculated by using the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) formula. Results Serum 1-84 PTH concentrations were strongly correlated but significantly lower than the intact PTH concentrations (r = 0.956, P < 0.0001). This finding was consistent among CKD stages 3 to 5. PTH concentrations by both assays (intact and 1-84 PTH) positively correlated with BUN (r = 0.613, r = 0.61; P < 0.0001, respectively), phosphorus (r = 0.423, r = 0.427; P < 0.0001, respectively) and negatively correlated with blood calcium (r = −0.355, r = −0.421; P < 0.0001, respectively), protein (r = −0.289, r = −0.305; respectively, P < 0.0001) and the estimated glomerular filtration rate (r = −0.468, r = −0.485; P < 0.0001, respectively). Conclusion Among patients with CKD stages 3 to 5 not on dialysis, the 1-84 PTH assay detected significantly lower PTH concentrations compared with intact PTH assay. This LC-MS/MS method can provide accurate and precise PTH results in patients with severe chronic renal failure. Additional studies that correlate the diagnosis and management of CKD mineral and bone disorders are needed to determine whether 1-84 PTH assay results are better surrogate markers in these early stages of CKD.
