Dynamics of the total mercury content in the hair of adolescent residents of the industrial center of Northwest Russia (Cherepovets City).

Total mercury content dynamics were evaluated in the hair of adolescent residents of the industrial center of North West Russia. The content of total mercury varied from less than 0.002 to 0.83mg/kg. The content of total mercury in the hair of males was 1.5-2 times lower than that of females. The relationship between the body mass index of females and the content of total mercury in the hair (for the entire observation period rs = 0.28-0.48, at p < 0.05) was observed. Metal's concentration in the hair of the study participants was found to depend on of fish consumption frequency. Total mercury concentration values were found to increase of 70% of the participants, by 0.03mg/kg per year on average, over 3years of study. Indicators of the content of total mercury in the hair of females and males in the city of Cherepovets did not exceed the standard values established in Russia and in the world. At the same time, the recorded values of the annual increase in the content of total mercury in the hair allow us to predict the potentially hazardous levels of metal in the body of the study participants when they reach adulthood.

Determining orbital volumes of sheep, goats and gazelles via computed tomography.

Orbital volume refers to the sum of bulbus oculi volume and orbital cavity volume. Scientists use orbital volume as a guide to diagnose, treat and prognose various eye diseases such as thyroid eye disease and enophthalmos. This study aims to examine the orbital volumes of sheep, goats and gazelles to demonstrate homotypic variations and interspecific differences between them. Crania of six male tuj sheep, five male hair goats and five male gazelle were used in this study. The crania were scanned using a 64-detector multi-detector computed tomography with a slice thickness of 0.625mm at 80kV, 200 MA and 639 mGy. The cross-sectional images were stored in DICOM format and then transferred to MIMICS 20.1 software. Afterwards, models were made by establishing the orbital borders on the cross-sections. Volume values were calculated based on the models. No homotypic variation was found between the right and left volumes within the species (p > 0.05). A statistically significant difference was observed in terms of interspecific right and left orbital volumes between sheep and gazelles (p < 0.05). It was concluded that the orbital parameters of the sheep, goats and gazelles in the same family help reveal their differences in the visual anatomy of these species and provide reference data for clinical diagnosis, treatment and the prognosis follow-up of ocular diseases in animals.

Genetic Differences between Male and Female Pattern Hair Loss in a Korean Population.

Studies on androgenetic alopecia (AGA or patterned hair loss (PHL)) have suggested different underlying pathological mechanisms between males and females. While many genetic factors for male hair loss have been identified through genome-wide association studies (GWASs), the genetic determinants of female hair loss remain unclear. In this study, we analyzed approximately 1000 individuals (436 males and 568 females) to identify sex-specific genetic factors. We conducted three independent GWASs for the total, male-only, and female-only groups, identifying three novel loci (rs7814359, rs2163085, and rs4793158 of the TSNARE1, FZD1, and GJC1 genes, respectively). rs7814359 showed a significant genome-wide association with AGA in the combined sex group and a weak association in both the male-only and female-only groups. The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs2163085 showed a significant genome-wide association with AGA in the combined group and notable significance in females. The rs4793158 SNP showed a suggestive association with AGA in both the combined and female-only groups. TSNARE1, related to rs7814359, is involved in vesicle transport. FZD1 is a key regulator of the Wnt signaling pathway. GJC1 is a gap junction protein. The associations of FZD1 and GJC1 with female-specific AGA suggest that sex hormones, such as estrogen, may influence FPHL through these genes. These findings will contribute to our understanding of the sex-specific pathophysiology of AGA.

Examination of 3D sella turcica models in three species of ruminants.

Sella turcica is an important anatomical structure that contains the pituitary gland. Changes observed on the sella turcica facilitate the identification of diseases such as Down syndrome, Seckel syndrome and tuberculum sellae meningioma in humans. Therefore, studies in this region are critical for a better understanding of sella turcica. The crania of six adult male tuj sheep, five adult male hair goats and five adult male gazelles were used in the study. Cross-sectional images of the cranium were captured using computed tomography. Cross-sectional images were used to model the sella turcica region in 3D, and the region was analysed morphologically and morphometrically. It was observed in the study that fossa hypophysialis, dorsum sella and processus clinoideus caudalis were clearly observed on the sella turcica. The processus clinoideus caudalis in some animals was not split into two. In morphometric analysis, the sella turcica length and sella turcica height (rostral border) parameters were statistically significant between the groups (p < 0.05). Consequently, this study morphological and morphometric examinations were carried out on the sella turcica of different ruminant species, and the differences between the groups were discussed. This study is expected to contribute to the very limited number of related studies, taxonomy and clinical studies in this field.

Hair from sexually active bucks strongly activates olfactory sensory inputs but fails to trigger early first ovulation in prepubescent does

Early exposure of does to sexually active bucks triggers early puberty onset correlating with neuroendocrine changes. However, the sensory pathways that are stimulated by the male are still unknown. Here, we assessed whether responses to olfactory stimuli are modulated by social experience (exposure to males or not) and/or endocrine status (prepubescent or pubescent). We used a calcium imaging approach on goat sensory cells from the main olfactory epithelium (MOE) and the vomeronasal organ (VNO). For both cell types, we observed robust responses to active male hair in females under three physiological conditions: prepubescent females isolated from males (ISOL PrePub), pubescent females exposed to males (INT Pub) and isolated females (ISOL Pub). Response analysis showed overall greater proportion of responses to buck hair in ISOL PrePub. We hypothesized that females would be more responsive to active buck hair during the prepubertal period, with numerous responses perhaps originating from immature neurons. We also observed a greater proportion of mature olfactory neurons in the MOE and VNO of INT Pub females suggesting that male exposure can induce plastic changes on olfactory cell function and organization. To determine whether stimulation by male odor can advance puberty, we exposed prepubescent does to active buck hair (ODOR). In both ODOR and females isolated from males (ISOL) groups, puberty was reached one month after females exposed to intact bucks (INT), suggesting that olfactory stimulation is not sufficient to trigger puberty.

The application of pheromones extracted from Shami goats' male hair and Awassi sheep male wool during the breeding season on LH and Progesterone concentrations in Awassi ewes in Syria.

The efficiency and profitability of animal farming systems are closely linked to the reproductive success of livestock, which requires effective management through biological, hormonal, and nutritional strategies. The "male effect," referring to the influence of male pheromones on female reproductive hormones, offers several benefits. This leads to improved reproductive management, better timing of breeding, and increased fertility rates. Additionally, using natural pheromones provides a non-invasive and sustainable method for managing reproduction, and it can be a cost-effective strategy, reducing the need for expensive hormonal treatments. Incorporating male pheromones into reproductive management practices can thus boost the efficiency and profitability of animal farming systems. The study's objective is to examine the influence of pheromones, extracted from Awassi ram's wool and Shami goat buck's hair, on the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and Progesterone (P4) in Awassi ewes during the breeding season. The pheromones were extracted using a soaking method with dichloromethane as the solvent. The resulting organic extract was then analyzed using a Chromatec-Crystal 5,000 gas chromatography-mass spectrometry device, equipped with a quadrupole mass spectrometer. The experiment was carried out on three equal groups, each consisting of 17 subjects, during the breeding season. In Group I, 15 ml of the ram's wool extract was applied to a piece of gauze and placed in a specially designed mask that was attached directly to the nose. In the second group, a similar procedure was followed using 15 ml of the buck's hair extract. The third group consisted of Awassi rams. The LH assay was conducted immediately before the treatment and again at 1, 10, and 20 hours post-treatment, and after 5 and 30 days of treatment to assess P4 levels. The study found that pheromones from Awassi rams and Shami goat bucks significantly increased the levels of LH and P4 in female Awassi sheep. The study concludes that the pheromones extracted from the wool of rams and Shami goat bucks can stimulate the response of female Awassi sheep. This finding opens up the possibility of using these pheromones in the reproductive management of female Awassi sheep.

Exposure estimates of parabens from personal care products compared with biomonitoring data in human hair from Northeast China

Parabens (PBs), a class of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), are extensively used as additives in personal care products (PCPs); however, distinguishing between endogenous and exogenous contamination from PCPs in hair remains a challenge. We conducted a comprehensive analysis of the levels, distribution patterns, impact factors, and sources of PBs in 119 human hair samples collected from Changchun, northeast China. The detection rates of methylparaben (MeP), propylparaben (PrP), and ethylparaben (EtP) in hair samples were found to be 100%. The concentration of PBs in hair followed the order of MeP (57.48 ng/g) > PrP (46.40 ng/g) > EtP (6.80 ng/g). The concentration of PrP in female hair was significantly higher (65.38 ng/g) than that observed in male hair (7.82 ng/g) (p < 0.05). The levels of excretion rates of MeP (ERMeP) and excretion rates of PrP (ERPrP) in the hair-dying samples (ERMeP: 17.89 ng/day; ERPrP: 14.15 ng/day) were found to be 2.52 and 2.40 times higher, respectively, compared to the non-hair-dying samples (ERMeP: 7.09 ng/day; ERPrP: 6.05 ng/day). However, the system exposure dosage (SED) results revealed that although hair dyes exhibited higher PBs, human exposure was found to be lower than certain PCPs. The results of the correlation analysis revealed that toner, face cream, body lotion, and hair conditioner were identified as the primary sources of PBs in male hair. Furthermore, the human exposure resulting from the utilization of female hair dye and serum exhibited a positive correlation with hair ERMeP and ERPrP levels, indicating in the screening of samples, excluding hair samples using hair dye and haircare essential oil can effectively avoid the interference caused by exogenous contamination from PCPs.

Assessment of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Knowledge among Unmarried Women Seeking Care at Secondary Healthcare Facilities

OBJECTIVES This study aims to assess the level of awareness regarding polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) among young, unmarried females attending secondary healthcare institutions. METHODOLOGY A cross-sectional study was conducted at a rural hospital between January 2022 and December 2022. Ethical clearance was obtained prior to data collection. A pre-designed proforma was employed to gather information from participants visiting the Out-patient Department (OPD). Data collection utilized a non-probability sampling technique, and subsequent analysis was performed using SPSS version 24. RESULTSThe study’s findings pertaining to knowledge levels, participants with no formal education constituted 24.03%, while 6.20% had completed high school and 3.87% held master’s degrees. Information on PCOS was relayed by sisters/cousins (13.17%) and mothers (20.25%), and 32.55% expressed hesitancy in seeking information due to shyness. Menstrual irregularities included polymenorrhagia (24%), oligomenorrhea (33%), amenorrhea (15%), and irregular periods (28%). Clinical deviations encompassed menstrual abnormalities (37%), abnormal male hair type distribution (12%), infertility (16%), mood disorder (7%), dyslipidemia (17%), and hypertension (11%). CONCLUSION The study underscores the need for well-structured educational initiatives to enhance comprehensive awareness of PCOS symptoms, facilitate early diagnosis and treatment, and ultimately improve overall well-being.

Effect of oxidative stress on the reproductive performance of Hair Goat

Small ruminants are the type of animals that make the most of unsuitable land and contribute significantly to the country's economy. In order to achieve maximum yield from these animals, it is necessary to optimize nutrition and minimize stress factors. One of the important consequences of management and nutrition has been demonstrated by scientists to be oxidative stress. Oxidative stress affect the normal functioning of many physiological systems. In this study, oxidative stress index (OSI), total oxidation level (TOS) and total antioxidant (TAS) levels were investigated in 20 male and 100 female hair goats during the breeding season (October) and out-of-season (May). Females between the ages of 2-6 years and male hair goats aged 2-4 years were used in the study. The correlation between TAS, TOS, and OSI and fertility was evaluated according to sex and season. TAS, TOS and OSI values in female hair goats in October and May were, respectively; 1.28, 1.34; 11.02, 7.13; 0.87, 0.53; in males 1.32, 1.44; 4.24, 8.84; 0.32, 0.63 μmol/L. As a result, it was concluded that as the TOS level increased, the yield of the offspring decreased, and the increase in the TAS level positively affected the yield of the offspring.

Peripubertal Testosterone, 17β-Estradiol and Progesterone Concentrations in Hair and Nails in Dobermann Dogs

Studies about puberty in dogs are few, probably because many factors are involved in the delicate process of puberty onset, leading to difficulties in the proper enrollment of subjects. Moreover, the use of blood for monitoring hormonal changes can be problematic, and not feasible for long-term studies. Hair and nails proved to be suitable matrices for the retrospective evaluation of hormones’ long-term accumulation. This study was performed using hair and nails for the evaluation of testosterone (T), 17β-estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4) concentrations to assess possible sexual steroid changes during the peripubertal period in dogs. The results, obtained on five males and five females, showed a significant increase in T in hair and nails of males immediately before puberty. In females, a significant increase in E2 at puberty and a marked increase in P4 after puberty was found in both biological specimens. Sex-related differences were detected only for T hair concentrations, but when the sex and sampling time were considered together, hair and nails T and nails P4 concentrations allowed us to discern between male and female dogs at specific sampling times. The results from this study showed that hair and nails are useful biological specimens for the retrospective evaluation of changes in T, E2 and P4 concentrations in peripubertal dogs.

Analysis of the Correlation between Male Hair Cutting Technique and Hair Designer Job Efficiency

Purpose: In this trend of modern society, the number of hair salons, barber shops, and men's cut specialty stores is increasing, but the job satisfaction of hair designers is negatively affected due to the increased number of customers and the decrease in job efficiency. Research on job techniques to be supplemented is needed.Methods: In order to study the effect and correlation of various cutting techniques such as cut out, cut between finger, shingling cut, push to cut, and check cut used in hair beauty industry practice on the job efficiency of hair designers, barber shop called LeeYongWon, in the southern region of Gyeonggi-do in 2022, barber shops, men's haircut shops, hair salons, etc. The survey was conducted targeting directors and hair designer employees, and analyzed using the statistical package program SPSS 21.0.Results: Among the cutting techniques used, the push to cut technique and shingling cut technique were found to induce effective reflection of hair designers in practice, and the cut between finger's technique, shingling cut technique, check cut technique were found to induce an increase in job satisfaction of hair designers.Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it is possible to seek the promotion of hair designers' self-esteem and efficient job skills, and it is considered that they will provide basic data for the subsequent development of future cutting techniques.

154 Growth, Libido, Semen Quality, and Reproductive Organ Weights of Hair Sheep Rams Rendered Short-Scrotum at Birth or Weaning

Abstract Rendering male lambs short-scrotum interferes with testicular development and thermoregulation, and has been proposed as a management tool to control male reproduction. This study evaluated at the effect of timing of the procedure (birth or weaning) on growth rate, testis size, libido, ejaculate characteristics and carcass traits in male landrace hair sheep lambs. April- (n = 31) and August-born (n = 23) Barbados Blackbelly (BB) and St. Croix (SC) male hair sheep lambs, balanced by breed and birth type, were rendered short-scrotum (SS) using elastrator bands at birth (B) or weaning (W), or left intact (I). Lambs were born on pasture, weaned at 9 weeks, transitioned in pens for two months post weaning, and then rotationally grazed as a single group to a target weight of 40 kg. At 6-mo of age (peri-pubertal), and again at target weight (post-pubertal), mating behavior was recorded (day) and ejaculate samples collected (day 2). Mating behavior was recorded in a0-min test with males individually exposed to estrus-induced ewes pen. An initial attempt was made to collect semen using an estrus-induced teaser ewe, and if not successful, the semen sample was collected by electro-ejaculation. At target weight lambs were harvested, scrotal content collected, and carcass characteristics (April cohort) determined. Data were analyzed in a model with sex class, breed and cohort as main effects. Pen and pasture ADG (142 and 129 g/d, respectively) and age at target weight (287 d) was not affected (P &amp;gt; 0.1) by SS treatment. However, April-born lambs grew 19 g/d less (P &amp;lt; 0.01) and reached target weight 40 d later (P &amp;lt; 0.001) than August-born males. As for breed, STX had greater pasture ADG (139 vs 124 g/d; P &amp;lt; 0.05) and reached target age 19 days earlier (P&amp;lt; 0.05) than BB males. Libido (number of mounts and services) was not affected by SS treatment, breed or cohort. The frequency of ejaculates containing sperm was less (P &amp;lt; 0.001) in SS (26 to 33%) than intact males (97%) and increased with age in SS but not I males. Sperm concentration and motile sperm in ejaculates were greater (P&amp;lt; 0.05) in I than SS males. Testis and epididymis were larger (P &amp;lt; 0.001) in I (300 and 44.3 g) than in B (134 and 20.0 g) and W (154 and 23.8 g), which were not different. Cohort and breed had no effect (P &amp;gt; 0.1) on mating behavior, ejaculate characteristics, and organ weights. Results suggest that SS and its timing had no effect on growth rate or on mating behavior. Though the procedure depressed the presence of sperm in the ejaculate and decreased testis weight, the suppression was not complete, and caution is warranted in utilizing the technique to facilitate co-grazing ewe lambs.

Effect of partial replacement of Dichanthium spp. hay with Guazuma ulmifolia foliage on hair lambs’ intake, digestibility, and blood metabolites

Extensive livestock management is a common practice in the dry tropics. However, summer conditions can cause high fiber and low protein concentrations, even in grasses adapted to tropical soils, such as Angleton (Dichanthium spp.), widely used in producing small ruminants. On the other hand, Guacimo (Guazuma ulmifolia) is a tree that overcomes high temperatures and hydric stress. This research evaluated the effect of replacing Angleton with four foliage levels of Guacimo on hair lambs’ intake, digestibility, and blood metabolites. Twelve male hair lambs with an average of 22.0 ± 1.3 kg of body weight were used in an experimental 4 × 4 square design. Treatments were as follows: 100 % Angleton hay; 85 % Angleton hay + 15 % Guacimo foliage; 70 % Angleton hay + 30 % Guacimo foliage, and 55 % Angleton hay + 45 % Guacimo foliage. Dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) intake, as well as CP digestibility and glucose concentrations, increased linearly as the level of Guacimo rose (P &gt; 0.05). Guacimo foliage improves intake, blood metabolites, and in vivo digestibility of DM and can be used to replace part of the hay in lamb rations.

According to the Needs and Demands of Men&amp;apos;s Hair Education Research on the Development of Curriculum Using Flip Running

As the interest of industry and users increases the haircut market is demanding talented people with core competencies. Therefore this study aims to contribute to the activation of haircut education by identifying the necessity and needs of haircut education deriving haircut curriculum using flipped learning and developing curriculum that can be used in beauty-related educational institutions. This study examined the theoretical background through analysis of previous studies related to flipped learning and haircut education. In order to find out the necessity and requirements of male haircut curriculum SPSS 26.0 was used for frequency analysis. In order to examine the current curriculum data were collected from beauty education institutions and private education institutions across the country and analyzed. In order to verify the reliability of male hair curriculum 10 experts were verified and evaluated through descriptive statistical analysis and the following results were obtained. In the survey of barbers the necessity of education the systematization of barber education and the use of video lectures were high. As a result of comparative analysis of beauty-related colleges basic male cut training courses were dominant and private educational institutions consisted of advanced male cut training courses. The reliability of the expert group was 4.9 points in major development and educational contribution. Based on these results the objectivity of the curriculum was verified by constructing a curriculum using flipped learning and it is considered to be useful as basic data for barber education and research for the training of professional manpower required by industry.

Heavy metals in fish, rice, and human hair and health risk assessment in Wuhan city, central China

The current study investigated the concentration of heavy metals (HMs) in human hair associated with fish and rice consumption in Wuhan City, central China. The mean values of As in 8/10 fish species exceeded the food safety standard of 0.015 mg/kg. The mean values (mg/kg) of HMs in rice followed a descending order of Zn (13.7)> Cu (1.9)>Cr (0.51)>As (0.11) >Cd (0.08) >Pb (0.04). The ascending order of HMs for male hair was Cd < As < Cr < Pb < Cu < Zn, while As < Cd < Cr < Pb < Cu < Zn for female. 30% of hair Cr and 22% of hair Zn contents exceeded the recommended values. The middle age (19–44) and adult (45–59) groups were the most vulnerable group, as the concentration for most elements was high in these age groups. A significant correlation was found between fish-eating frequency and hair Zn (r = 0.213; p < 0.05), and As (r = 0.204; p < 0.05). High odd ratios were found in a population with high fish-eating frequency, especially for Pb (7.19), As (3.1), Zn (3.83), and Cd (3.7). A significant non-carcinogenic risk was associated with Cr exposure through consuming herbivores, filter feeders, and omnivorous fish. The cancer risk values of Cd exposure (1.54E-04) via rice consumption and As exposure (1.25E-04) via consumption of omnivores fish indicate precautionary measures.

Spatial distribution, impact factors, and potential health implications of trace elements in human hair from capital residents in China

We analyzed the levels, spatial distribution, impact factors, source apportionment, and potential health implications of trace elements (V, Zn, Cu, Mn, Ni, Mo, and Co) in 1202 human hair samples of urban residents aged 4–55 from 29 cities in China. The median values of seven trace elements in hair were found in the following increasing order: Co (0.02 μg/g) < V (0.04 μg/g) < Mo (0.05 μg/g) < Ni (0.32 μg/g) < Mn (0.74 μg/g) < Cu (9.63 μg/g) < Zn (157 μg/g). The spatial distribution of these trace elements in the hair from the six geographical subdivisions varied depending on the exposure sources and impact factors. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed that Cu, Zn, and Co in the hair samples of urban residents were primarily derived from food, whereas V, Ni, and Mn were attributed to industrial activities and food. Majority of the hair samples (up to 81%) from North China (NC) exceeded the recommended value for V content, whereas up to 59.2%, 51.3%, and 31.6% samples from Northeast China (NE) exceeded the recommended values for Co, Mn, and Ni contents, respectively. The levels of Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn were significantly higher in female hair than those in male hair, whereas the levels of Mo were higher in male than in female hair (p < 0.01). Furthermore, significantly higher Cu/Zn ratios were observed in the hair of male residents than those in the female residents (p < 0.001), indicating a higher health risk for male residents.

Evaluation of Hair Follicle Counts of Occipital Scalp Biopsies from Male Hair Transplant Patients in Thailand

Objective: To evaluate the average hair follicle count from the occipital scalp of Thai males with AGA who were candidates for hair transplantation. Materials &amp; Methods: A cross-sectional study of 47 male with AGA undergoing hair transplantation surgery was conducted. The 4-mm punch biopsies from the occipital scalp were evaluated for hair count parameters. The results were compared to prior studies. Results: The average counts of total hair follicles and the density of hair follicle per square millimeter were 18.6±1.2, and 1.5±0.1, respectively. The terminal-to-vellus ratio was 11.1, and the percent ratio of anagen-to-telogen ratio was 91.9:8.1. The hair count number is significantly lower than other ethnicities including Thais in general population (P &lt; 0.001), but greater than the Thai males with AGA in the previous study. (P &lt; 0.001). Conclusion: Our study showed a lower average hair density as compared to the other normal Asian population. The total hair count in the occipital area from this study is less when compared to the previous studies conducted in Thai normal controls but higher than those with more advanced AGA. This result supported the evidence of hormonal effect involving the occipital scalp of male AGA.

Effects of Aging on Hair Color, Melanosomes, and Melanin Composition in Japanese Males and Their Sex Differences.

In a previous study, we observed that the hair color of Japanese females darkens with age and that the causes of this are the increase in melanosome size, the amount of melanin, and the mol% of 5,6-dihydroxyindole (DHI) which has a high absorbance. In this study, we extended the same analyses to male hair to examine the sex differences in hair color, melanin composition, and melanosome morphology. Male hair also tended to darken with age, but it was darker than female hair in those of younger ages. Although there was no age dependence of DHI mol% in male hair, as with female hair, the melanosomes' sizes enlarged with age, the total melanin amount increased, and these findings were correlated with hair color. The analyses, considering age dependence, revealed that there were significant sex differences in the ratio of absorbance of dissolved melanin at the wavelength of 650 nm to 500 nm, in pheomelanin mol%, and in melanosome morphology parameters such as the minor axis. This may be the cause of the sex differences in hair color. Furthermore, the factors related to hair color were analyzed using all the data of the male and female hairs. The results suggested that total melanin amount, pheomelanin mol%, and DHI mol% correlated with hair color.

Effects of the Inclusion of Ground Pouteria sapota Kernel on Intake, Digestibility, and Growth Performance in Lambs.

This study determined the effect of replacing ground corn and soybean meal with ground Pouteria sapota kernel (PSSM) in lamb diets on nutrient intake and digestibility, performance, and carcass traits. Twenty-one male hair sheep lambs with an average body weight of 22 ± 3.5 kg were randomly assigned to three treatment diets containing PSSM at 0, 10, and 20% of the total dry matter (DM) inclusion. The study lasted 60 days, which included 15 days for adaption and 45 days for sample collection. The PSSM inclusion did not affect intake or performance (p > 0.05). However, ether extract (EE) digestibility linearly increased (p < 0.0001), while crude protein (CP) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) linearly decreased. Final body weight, total weight gain, average daily weight gain, feeding efficiency, and carcass traits were not affected by PSSM inclusion. In conclusion, these results suggest that PSSM can replace up to 200 g/kg DM of ground corn and soybean meal without affecting intake or animal performance.
