The Orientation of Turjuman Al-Mustafid Tafsir as the Root of the Interpretation Tradition in the Nusantara

The purpose of this study is to analyze the orientation of Turjuman al-Mustafid's interpretation as the root of interpretation in the Nusantara. The research method used is library research. Data is collected through observation and documentation and then analyzed using qualitative analysis. The results of this study show that the orientation of Tafsir Turjuman al-Mustafid's interpretation is in (1) Local Cultural Adaptation, especially in the use of Malay and Jawi letters. (2) Simple Language, with its clear and easy-to-digest language style, makes this interpretation accessible to various levels of society. (3) Emphasis on the Spiritual and Sufistic Dimensions, by teaching Sufism values such as patience, sincerity, and tawakal. (4) Integration with Islamic Classical Teachings, while remaining rooted in Islamic classical teachings, by referring to the Qur'an, hadith, and classical interpretations as the main interpretation sources. (5) Driving the Formation of Nusantara Islamic Identity, by combining local elements and Islamic teachings, this interpretation helps to strengthen the sense of ownership and pride in the distinctive Islamic identity of the Nusantara. (6) Da'wah and Education, which are used as a tool to spread Islamic teachings and deepen religious understanding among the Malay community. (7) Contextualization of the teachings of the Qur'an, as an effort to help bridge the gap between the text of the Qur'an and the context of daily life. This study implies that Tafsir Turjuman al-Mustafid is not just a work of interpretation, but also a symbol of the integration of Islam with local culture as well as efforts to strengthen and maintain Islamic identity in the Nusantara.

Maintaining Malay Culture amidst the Current of Globalization

This globalization has led to political, economic and cultural integration. Malay culture is now being hit by globalization. This is because many foreign cultures have been allowed to enter regions that have a Malay feel, both through print media and electronic media. With the fading of Malay culture, the identity of the Malay community has also faded, which is characterized by people who are innocent, polite, modest, and able to adapt to various cultures without letting go of their Malayness. The aim of this article is to explain the efforts that can be made to preserve Malay culture amidst the rapid flow of globalization. This paper uses library research research methods. The results of this research are that the process of preserving Malay culture must of course come from public awareness first, then it can be done by means of culture experience and culture knowledge.

Development of Ethnosciene Reels of Ketapang Malay Tribe as Supplementary Learning Resources on Hydrocarbon Compounds

The habit of the Malay community in using natural materials as fuel can be integrated into chemistry teaching materials in schools. The aim of this research is to assess the validity and practicality of reels as a learning resource and to develop reels based on the ethnoscience of the Ketapang Malay tribe. The research development model used is the Three Stages Research and Development (TSRD) model, which consists of three steps: planning, development, and dissemination. Data collection techniques involve indirect communication using validation sheets and response instruments. The subjects of the research are students from SMA N 1 Sungai Laur. The results of the study indicate that the ethnoscience-based reels of the Malay tribe are valid and practical, with validity and practicality scores of 96.3% and 90.30%, respectively. The reels can be used as an independent, practical, and engaging learning resource that is relevant to students. Therefore, the validity and practicality results of the development of ethnoscience-based reels are expected to serve as an innovative and contextual alternative media for chemistry education in schools.

Public Art and Cultural Identity: Analysing the Keris Sculpture under Municipal Hang Tuah Jaya, Melaka

In the Malay community, the Keris served not only as a self-defence tool but also as a significant symbol reflecting the Malay community and cultural heritage. This study explores the symbolic meaning and cultural significance of the public sculpture Keris at Jalan Air Keroh, installed by the Municipal Hang Tuah Jaya, Melaka Councils. Applying Feldman's art criticism theory, which encompasses four main aspects - description, analysis, interpretation, and judgement, this research seeks to investigate the design and meaning of the sculpture. Despite its prominent visibility and visual solid impact along the roadside, its deep cultural significance and influence on the local community remain enigmatic. By providing a comprehensive analysis of the symbolic and artistic elements of the Keris sculpture, this study aims to bridge this knowledge gap by utilising a systematic descriptive qualitative approach based on Feldmans's theory. The findings of this study are expected to provide comprehensible information that can enhance both local and tourist understanding and appreciation of the sculpture. It can also strengthen interactions and appreciation of Malay culture in Melaka. Findings showed the potential of public sculpture in Melaka, which serves as an aesthetic element and a crucial component to bringing a closer understanding and appreciation in promoting the cultural and historical significance of the Malay community to the general public.

Ethics in Sambas Malay Regional Literary Texts

This research seeks to explore and understand the ethical values reflected in the texts of Sambas Malay folklore. Thirty-five (35) texts were studied, which are compiled in seven (7) books of Sambas Malay folk tales, namely Si Gentar Alam, Datuk Kulup, Anak Hantu, Kalantika, Si Miskin dan Firman Tuhan, Kandung Dagang Palembang, and Nek Kuntan. Through the close reading method, ethical values that guide the lives of the communities owning these texts were found. The dominant values relate to honesty, loyalty, a sense of shame, humility (not being arrogant), prioritizing others (altruism), forgiveness, religious devotion, caring for the poor, obedience to parents, respect for leaders, and respect for others. These ethical values have preserved the life of the community for centuries. In navigating life in an era filled with rapid change, high uncertainty, complex issues, and ambiguity resulting from technological disruption, these values remain highly relevant. Therefore, these ethical values need to continue being internalized in the lives of the Sambas Malay community in particular, and Indonesian society in general.

Sociolinguistic Representation of The Deli Java Community’s Culture in North Sumatra Province

The study explores the sociolinguistic aspects of language, particularly its impact on the interactions between Javanese and Malay tribes, which significantly influence each other. As a result of people moving from one place to another, there was interaction between the Javanese and Malay Deli communities, which was known as Javanese Deli or "Ja-del." This resulted in language contact and the emergence of new terminology as a result of the community's social interactions. In North Sumatra, there are Javanese and Malay communities. linguistic contact in Javanese and Malay societies gave rise to a variety of linguistic phenomena such as "language codes" and "symptoms of code switching and code mixing." Acculturation of Javanese and Deli Malay culture resulted in a blending of language comprehension and belief values in both parties' civilizations. This research approach employs a qualitative paradigm with 112 informants; however, for the sake of efficiency and accuracy, 60 sources were chosen based on expertise and character. This study explores The use of Javanese by people in Deli Serdang Regency, Serdang Bedagai Regency, Langkat Regency and Batubara Regency is gradually changing. Based on the recognition of the Javanese people, the language used in the Deli Serdang Regency, Serdang Bedagai Regency, Langkat Regency and Batubara Regency was originally pure Ngoko Javanese. The culture of the Javanese Deli community in North Sumatra Province contains a mixture of cultures that lead to globalization. When communicating, the speaker conveys the speaker's speech using Indonesian (BI) and a foreign language (BA) with no intervention from each speaker.

ACCULTURATION OF ISLAMIC CULTURE AND LOCAL CULTURE IN DRUMING TRADITION IN PANJANG REGION VILLAGE, KUCHING, SARAWAK, MALAYSIA

This article focuses on the acculturation of Islamic culture and local culture in the Bergendang tradition. The purpose of writing this article is to preserve the traditions that have been carried out by the Rantau Panjang Malay community in order to introduce them to the public. The approach and theoretical framework used in this research is the cultural anthropology approach and acculturation theory with a functional approach. Meanwhile, the methods used are ethnographic methods and phenomenological methods. From this research, it can be found that the background to the emergence of the Drumming tradition in Kampung Rantau Panjang is related to the absence of entertainment in ancient times, encouraging the people to create offerings to fill their free time and provide entertainment. In this case, previous people started the tradition of drumming by tapping on used boards and it produced different sounds and could arouse people's interest in dancing to the sound of used boards being hit. The developments and changes that have occurred have helped the Bergendang tradition continue to be in demand by every level of society. Even though some structures have changed, this traditional entertainment still maintains the elements and rules of the event. Apart from that, Islamic values ​​have become the spirit of various aspects in the implementation of the Bergendang tradition. Then, the majority of the people of Kampung Rantau Panjang responded to the implementation of the Bergendang tradition with a positive response. This can be seen from the enthusiasm of the residents when carrying out this tradition.

Integrating Malay Local Wisdom in English Learning: Students’ Perception at State Junior High School 1 in Tanjung Pura Regency of North Sumatera Province

Integrating local wisdom into the English learning process is essential to preserve cultural identity and promote a more meaningful and relevant learning experience for students. This study aimed to explore students' perceptions on the importance of integrating local wisdom of the Malay community in English language learning. A qualitative approach was applied, which involved a survey of 27. The results showed that most students believe that the integration of local wisdom of the Malay community in English language learning is important. They recognized the potential benefits, including increased cultural understanding, better language learning motivation, and development of 21st century skills. However, the students also identified some challenges, such as the limited availability of learning resources that integrate the local wisdom of the Malay community and the need for better teacher training in this area. The findings of this study indicated that students were generally open to the integration of Malay local wisdom in English language learning, but there needs to be a more systematic and comprehensive effort to address the identified challenges. Implications for curriculum development, teacher professional development, and learning resource design to integrate local wisdom of the Malay community in English textbooks.

MALAY ETHICS IN ABSTINENCE FROM PROHIBITION: A META-ANALYSIS

Abstinence is a type of verbal discipline that is used as a foundation for achieving social welfare by the majority of the Malay community. This research will look into Malay abstinence ethics. Nine previous journal articles were analyzed and presented in a meta-analysis study, revealing Malay ethics in abstinence. Meta-analysis is the study of a number of previous research results on similar problem topics in order to determine the results and conclusions of previous research. Purposive sampling was used to select research based on criteria such as suitability for the research topic discussed, articles published between 2012 and 2022, and articles published in accredited journals. To determine the outcomes of previous studies' narrative research, quantitative data analysis with percentages and qualitative data analysis were used. According to the study's findings, Malay ethics can be achieved by implementing abstinence in everyday life based on the problems encountered, because abstinence varies in various fields of life such as religion, education, custom, economy, and health.

Exploring Malay Parenting Patterns and Cultural Identity in Medan City: Traditions, Values, Adaptation in an Urban Context

This research explores early childhood parenting patterns and Malay culture in Medan City, Indonesia. With a focus on traditions, values, and adaption in urban context, this research explores how Malay culture remains relevant in child-rearing patterns amidts dynamic changes in the urban environment. The research method involved in-depth interviews with parents and Malay community leaders living in Medan City, as well as observations of child-rearing practices in everyday life. The research results show that despite adaption to urban development, Malay cultural traditions and values remain the main basis for parenting patterns. However, there are also challenges faced in maintaining Malay cultural identity in globalization and modernization. The implication of this research is the importance of understanding the dynamic of local culture in a urban context to strengthen cultural identity and enrich the study of child-rearing patterns in Indonesia.

Development of an Ethnobotanical Encyclopedia on the Antar Ajong Ceremony

The Antar Ajong ceremony is a ritual before planting rice carried out by the Sambas Malay Tribe. Plant diversity in the Antar Ajong ceremony can be developed in the form of an encyclopedia to support learning at school. This study aims to measure the validity of the media and student responses to the encyclopedia developed. The research used Research and development (R&D) with a modified 4D development model that includes the define, design, and develop stages. Data collection used interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The data was analyzed using a Likert questionnaire. The validation test obtained a value from media experts of 96.88% (very valid), material experts of 91.66% (very valid), and linguists of 88.14% (very valid). Students gave very good responses to the small-scale (99.35%) and large-scale (98.25%) trials. So it can be concluded that the ethnobotanical encyclopedia media at the Antar Ajong ceremony of the Malay Tribe of Paloh District, Sambas Regency, is feasible to apply in learning and get a positive response. This encyclopedia medium can also be used as a medium for preserving the local wisdom of the Paloh Paloh District Malay community at the Antar Anjong ceremony.

Dynamics of Malay Intellectual Tradition

This article aims to determine the dynamics of the intellectual revival of the Malay world which includes the supporting factors for the intellectual revival of the Malay world, Malay intellectual figures and their works. This article is presented descriptively qualitatively using literature review techniques. The research results show that the formation of intellectual traditions in the Malay world is closely related to the process of Islamization of the archipelago. It is strongly suspected that the intellectual tradition was only formed during the sultanate, in the early days of the arrival and spread of Islam through trade activities and Islamic preaching. Furthermore, there was an increase in the intensity of relations between the Malay (Nusantara) community and Arab countries, especially Haromain. This happens with many people from the archipelago who perform the Hajj and who deliberately settle in Mecca or Medina to study there. These are the people who, after returning to the archipelago, became actors in the process of transmitting religious thought to the Muslim community of the archipelago.

Television Mass Media Relations to Culture Shifts in Besilam Malay Community

Media relations with culture can play a role in shifting the views of the Besilam Malay community. This study focuses on the impact of television mass media as a pivotal component of modern society. Technological advancements have placed society at a crossroads, presenting a choice between embracing contemporary progress or adhering to time-honored traditions. The pervasive influence of media serves as a catalyst in shaping awareness and perspectives. The tug-of-war between embracing change and preserving heritage is well exemplified in the traditional berahoi ceremony, which recently has taken up only a small part of the whole tradition. The development of the times that continue to follow renewal can influence people's attitudes and thoughts towards culture supported by technology in the media. This paper used a qualitative research model with a heuristic approach to gather information from cultural and religious community leaders around the Besilam community. This study holds significance in illuminating the ancestral traditions deeply rooted within the Besilam Malay community. It aims to shed light on the evolving nature of these traditions and their transformations over time. Additionally, it serves as a call to action, advocating for the Langkat Regency government to prioritize the preservation of these rich cultural customs. A recommendation is proposed to allocate resources from the APBD Budget Policy through the Tourism Office to sustain and promote these traditions, ensuring their continuity for future generations. Modern Globalization Theory, coined by Wallerstein, asserts that social change occurs as underdeveloped nations emulate the practices and advancements of their more advanced counterparts as a means of progress and growth.

The purpose of this research is to find out about the process of implementing traditions soak in Sanglar Village, this research uses descriptive analysis methods, with a qualitative approach. Meanwhile, the data collection techniques used are observation, documentation and interview techniques. The research subject consisted of 1 person as the resource person, namely Nisah as mak Andam, the result of this research was the implementation of tradition soak to the bride in Sanglar Village, soak has several requirements that must be completed, the process soak there are several stages. Tradition soak has the aim of beautifying the prospective bride and a sign of the bride's readiness to become a wife. Implementation of traditions soak Malay weddings in Sanglar Village are very important so this tradition has been carried out for a long time and is still maintained today by the Malay community in Sanglar Village.

Adjustments to the Traditional Government System in the Muslim Malay Community of Bungo (1979–2023)

<em>This research is motivated by the changes that occurred in the customary government that survived for many years as social control in Malay society. The purpose of this research is to describe the changes in the customary government system in the muara bungo Islamic Malay community (1979-2023). The research method used is the four stages of historical research methodology, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and writing. The data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, literature study, and documentation. The results showed that as a social controller in the Malay customary society of Muara Bungo, which lost its role thanks to Law No. 5 of 1979 which changed all the smallest units into village governments. The customary government then disappeared and all the rules and customary devices that had existed after so long. This change then did not bring changes towards progress in the indigenous Malay community of Muara Bungo, it became a setback for the community. The village government only regulates village administration, not regulating the problems that arise in indigenous peoples. The loss of the Customary Chief (Pasirah) made the Malay indigenous community lose guidance, so that community problems could not be resolved by the village government. The increasingly worrying situation made the Jambi Level I regional government move by issuing Regional Regulation No. 5 of 2007 with the intention of restoring the identity, function and role of customary institutions to the community. Rio emerged as the new customary head, to socialize and teach the community the customary rules, and to peacefully resolve customary problems that occurred in the community.</em>

Sensory Response of Durian Lai Tempoyak and Its Potential as A Functional Food

Tempoyak, a fermented food made from durian, is a popular seasoning in Malay communities in Malaysia and Indonesia. Produced using low-quality durian, it serves as an alternative to prevent spoilage. Tempoyak has functional benefits as it contains lactic acid bacteria (LAB), a probiotic providing digestive health benefits. Research on East Kalimantan's durian lai explores its potential for tempoyak production. The study, utilizing a Completely Randomized Design, examined salt concentrations and fermentation times. Optimal quality was achieved with a 5% salt concentration and a 7-day fermentation period, yielding favorable organoleptic results, with "liked" ratings for color and texture, and "somewhat liked" for aroma and taste. The hedonic quality included an orange-yellow color, sour aroma, salty taste, and soft texture. The total LAB reached 4.1 x 108 CFU/g, meeting probiotic criteria, with a pH of 3.85.

Diplomatic Ties between the Ottoman Empire and the Malay Sultanate from the 14th to the 19th Centuries

Malaya began its relationship with the Ottoman Turkish Empire in the 15th century, during the time of the Melaka-Sultanate. This relationship continued even after the arrival of colonialists and the fall of the Ottoman Turkish Empire. At first, their relations were focused on politics and economics. These two kingdoms were considered to be the powerful Islamic forces that influenced Europe and Asia. The Sultan of Melaka visited Turkey several times to strengthen their relationship and even took an oath of allegiance to the Ottoman Turkish Empire, promising to defend Islam in Asia. After the fall of Melaka, the Ottoman Turkish Empire provided war aid through Aceh to help Melaka regain control of the seized kingdom. The Ottoman Turkish Empire also influenced the Malay community’s thinking and struggle to resist colonialism in the 18th century. The Malay community even took the Ottoman Turkish Empire as a model for freeing Malaya from Western threats. This paper will examine the initial relationship between the Melaka Malay Kingdom and the Ottoman Turkish Empire, particularly from a political perspective, and the type of influence that catalysed the Malays’ spirit to continue to rise and defend Malaya from external threats. This research will focus on document analysis and descriptive writing methods. The relationship between Malaya and the Turkish Government lasted until the Islamic caliphate fell in 1923. Furthermore, Ottoman Turkey was a significant Islamic government that the Malays expected to obey, as it acted as a power that was always concerned with Islam and the country as an Islamic state.

Struktur Musik Buka Lanse Dalam Adat Perkawinan Masyarakat Melayu Di Kabupaten Batanghari Propinsi Jambi

This research discusses the structure of traditional open-lance music which is classified as unique and rare, but is threatened with extinction if it is not preserved. This study aims to examine the structure of open lanse music and its inheritance system in Batanghari Regency. This study uses qualitative research methods with data collection techniques of observation, interviews, documentation, and field studies. Discussion and analysis of data using structural theory. Buka lanse is a poem sung by traditional leaders or both the bride and groom. Poetry opens lance philosophically means the bride and groom are officially husband and wife, and the groom has legally entered the bride's room. The musical structure begins with the playing of the Malay drum instrument, piul (violin) accordion, keyboard, and vocals in the form of free meters, repeatedly (repetition style) and logogenic. Contour melodies are a mixture of ascending and descending. Open lanse music is still maintained as the identity of the Jambi Malay community in general and in particular the Malay community in the Rengas Condong Village, Muara Bulian District, Batanghari Regency
