Electric field control of 180° magnetization reversal in a spin-valve multiferroic heterostructure

Electrical tuning of magnetism, rather than a spin current or magnetic field, has attracted much attention due to its great potential for designing energy-efficient spintronic devices. However, pure electric field (E-field) control of 180° magnetization reversal is still challenging. Thus, we report an E-field-controlled 180° magnetization reversal in a spin valve (SV)/Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)0.7Ti0.3O3 (PMN-PT) multiferroic heterostructure. Via the converse magnetoelectric coupling effect in CoFe/PMN-PT heterostructures, the magnetic anisotropy and coercive field of the CoFe film can be tremendously modulated by an E-field. We fabricated an optimized SV grown on the PMN-PT substrate, in which the magnetic moments of the free and pinned layers are parallel to each other at the initial state. By applying an E-field, the coercive field of the free layer was enhanced, exhibiting an antiparallel configuration between the free and pinned layers. Based on the theoretical and experimental results, a complete 180° magnetization reversal of the free layer can be obtained without a magnetic field. Accordingly, an E-field-controlled giant, reversible and repeatable magnetoresistance modulation can be achieved. This work proposes a feasible strategy to achieve E-field-controlled 180° magnetization reversal, which is critical for exploring ultralow power consumption magnetic memory devices.

Effect of Ca2MnO4 on the magnetic and electric properties in Ca3Mn2O7 ceramics prepared with different sintering temperature

Hybrid improper ferroelectricity Ca3Mn2O7 is the promising multiferroic materials, which has attracted considerable attention due to their potential applications in areas such as electronic devices and storage media. The magnetic and electric properties of the layered perovskite Ca3Mn2O7 ceramics with different proportions of single-layer Ca2MnO4 phase synthesized by solid state reaction within adjusting the sintering temperature have been investigated. The x-ray diffraction patterns and the characteristic of magnetic transition from magnetization curves show that the ratio of Ca2MnO4 is reduced from 22.9 % of sintering at 1200 °C to 0 % of sintering at 1300 °C, which implies that the narrow suitable sintering temperature is the most factor for preparation of pure Ca3Mn2O7 ceramic samples. The ferroelectricity of all samples was investigated and the ferroelectricity decreased with the increase of Ca2MnO4 content due to the presence of non-ferroelectric Ca2MnO4 phase. The magnetoelectric coupling effect was discussed by the magnetization induced from the electric field. The results speculated that a small amount of Ca2MnO4 can improve the magnetoelectric coupling effect due to the interface effect in multiphase materials, which suggests that a new method to enhance the magnetoelectric coupling effect in Ca3Mn2O7 system.

Study on the magnetoelectric effect, ferroelectric and optical investigation of (1−x) BCT + x NZLFO multiferroic composite

AbstractThis study investigates the magnetoelectric coupling effect in dual‐phase multiferroic composites prepared using a solid‐state reaction method. The composites were fabricated with the formula (1−x)Ba₀.₇₇Ca₀.₂₃TiO₃(BCT) + xNi₀.₆Zn₀.₂₅La₀.₁₅Fe₂O₄(NZLFO), where x varied from 0% to 100% in 10% increments. Ca‐doped BaTiO₃ served as the ferroelectric phase, while La‐doped Ni–Zn ferrite acted as the ferromagnetic phase. The effects of varying ferrite content (x) on structural, optical, ferroelectric, electrical, and magnetoelectric properties were comprehensively analyzed. X‐ray diffraction (XRD) with Rietveld refinement revealed a spinel cubic structure for the ferrite phases and a tetragonal structure for the perovskite phases. The study observed a moderate influence of ferrite concentration on the lattice parameters of BCT and an opposing effect on the lattice parameters of NZLFO. Optical measurements indicated higher light absorption in the visible range compared to the UV region and wide optical bandgap. Magnetic properties, characterized by saturation magnetization, exhibited a dependence on temperature, with a Curie temperature (Tc) of 700 K. Electrical resistivity displayed a maximum at x = 50% and remained constant at high frequencies. The study also confirmed the presence of electric polarization induced by a magnetic field, with the highest magnetoelectric coefficient observed at x = 10%. These findings demonstrate the successful fabrication of dual‐phase multiferroic composites with tunable properties through controlled ferrite content. The observed magnetoelectric coupling suggests potential applications in multifunctional devices.

Lithiation bridged molecular conducting magnets

Combining ferromagnetism and metallic conductivity has been extensively studied in contemporary materials science. However, building such multifunctionalities in molecular chemistry is particularly challenging, on which two collec-tive properties are long considered as mutually exclusive. Here, we report molecular conducting magnet consisting of two-dimensional graphene and molecular planar magnetic networks bridged by electrochemical lithiation, exhibiting the co-existence of distinct magnetism and conductivity and magneto-electric coupling effects. The room temperature magnetoresistance and magnetoelectric coupling coefficient of such complex solid reach 10.7 % and 1.77 V/Oe cm, respectively, which can be further tailored by modulating the interaction between graphene and molecular magnetic network. In addition, the graphene passivation simultaneously introduces environmental stability of molecular mag-nets. The electrochemical lithiation offers a pathway towards coupling magnetism and conductivity in molecular complexes.

Ferrielectricity controlled widely-tunable magnetoelectric coupling in van der Waals multiferroics

The discovery of various primary ferroic phases in atomically-thin van der Waals crystals have created a new two-dimensional wonderland for exploring and manipulating exotic quantum phases. It may also bring technical breakthroughs in device applications, as evident by prototypical functionalities of giant tunneling magnetoresistance, gate-tunable ferromagnetism and non-volatile ferroelectric memory etc. However, two-dimensional multiferroics with effective magnetoelectric coupling, which ultimately decides the future of multiferroic-based information technology, has not been realized yet. Here, we show that an unconventional magnetoelectric coupling mechanism interlocked with heterogeneous ferrielectric transitions emerges at the two-dimensional limit in van der Waals multiferroic CuCrP2S6 with inherent antiferromagnetism and antiferroelectricity. Distinct from the homogeneous antiferroelectric bulk, thin-layer CuCrP2S6 under external electric field makes layer-dependent heterogeneous ferrielectric transitions, minimizing the depolarization effect introduced by the rearrangements of Cu+ ions within the ferromagnetic van der Waals cages of CrS6 and P2S6 octahedrons. The resulting ferrielectric phases are characterized by substantially reduced interlayer magnetic coupling energy of nearly 50% with a moderate electric field of 0.3 V nm−1, producing widely-tunable magnetoelectric coupling which can be further engineered by asymmetrical electrode work functions.

Mutual control of electric and magnetic orders near room temperature in Al doped Y-type hexaferrite single crystals

Realizing robust magnetoelectric (ME) coupling effect near room temperature is still a long-standing challenge for the application of multiferroic materials in next-generation low-power spintronic and memory devices. Here we report a systematic study on the magnetic, dielectric, and ME coupling properties of Y-type hexaferrite Ba0.5Sr1.5Co2Fe12–xAlxO22 (x = 0.0, 0.5, 1.0) single crystals. The Al doping can induce the shifting of the alternating longitudinal conical (ALC)-proper screw (PS) magnetic phase transition temperature from 200 K for x = 0.0 to 365 K for x = 1.0. The most interesting feature is that the Ba0.5Sr1.5Co2Fe11AlO22 single crystal displays a direct and converse ME coupling coefficient with ∼ 3,100 ps/m and ∼ 3,900 ps/m at 250 K, respectively, due to the Al-doped enhanced stability of ALC phase. Moreover, the exchange bias also verifies the strong coupling of electric and magnetic orders. These results provide a valuable insight on the modulation of ALC structure and the mechanism of ME effect in Y-type hexaferrites.

Effect of rapid/slow annealing routes on the magnetic and photoelectric properties of BiFeO3/CoFe2O4 multilayer thin films

With the development of electronic information technology, the miniaturization of lightweight devices and their integration have increased the requirements for materials, and two-dimensional composite multiferroic materials have become a major research hotspot in recent years. However, it is difficult for traditional solid multiferroic material to directly switch the magnetic/polarization direction under the action of an applied electric/magnetic field, limiting the improvement of the magnetoelectric coupling coefficient. In this study, a series of BiFeO3 (BFO)/CoFe2O4 (CFO) composite film multiferroic materials were prepared by changing the annealing routes and annealing atmosphere, the microstructure, ferroelectric properties, dielectric properties, photovoltaic properties, magnetic properties, and magnetoelectric coupling properties of composite films were routeatically studied. The results showed that under the slow annealing route, the composite film has obvious ellipsoidal grains with distinct grain boundaries and better crystallinity. Moreover, the performance of the film after annealing in different atmospheres of the slow annealing route was improved compared with that of the rapid annealing route after annealing in different atmospheres. Simultaneously, by changing the annealing atmosphere of the composite film, the film exhibited better magnetic optical properties and coupling properties after annealing in oxygen. In addition, this study showed that the dielectric constant and residual polarization value of the film increase under the action of magnetic field and illumination, and the maximum photomagnetic dielectric response (3.19%) and photomagnetic response (1.58%) are observed in the annealed film under the oxygen atmosphere of the slow annealing regime, indicating that the magnetoelectric coupling effect of the film is improved under the action of applied light.

Large room temperature magnetoelectric response in quasi 1–2 nanocomposite films on mica substrate

AbstractA novel quasi 1–2 type magnetoelectric (ME) nanocomposite films composted of one‐dimensional CoFe2O4 nanofibers and two‐dimensional PbZr0.2Ti0.8O3 films on flexible mica substrate have been designed and fabricated. The ME coupling effects have been greatly enhanced due to the release of the clamping effect and the high strain transfer efficiency between the large aspect ratio of the nanofibers and ferroelectric thin films. The release of the clamping effect was confirmed by reducing the thickness of the mica substrate, in which the piezoelectric coefficient and ME coupling coefficient of the nanocomposite films have been greatly boosted by the decrease in the mica thickness. A large direct ME coupling coefficient of 630 mV/(cm Oe) and a converse ME coupling coefficient of 1.43 × 10−8 s/m have been achieved in the quasi 1–2 nanocomposite film with a substrate thickness of 25 µm. Furthermore, the stain‐mediated ME coupling was revealed by magnetic field/electric field‐induced local ferroelectric/magnetic domain switching dynamics.

Non-volatile voltage-controlled magnetization in single-phase multiferroic ceramics at room temperature

Single-phase multiferroics (MFs) exhibiting ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism and the strong magnetoelectric (ME) coupling effect at room temperature are seen as key to the development of the next-generation of spintronic devices, multi-state memories, logic devices and sensors. Herein, the single-tetragonal phase (1–x) (Sr0·3Bi0·35Na0·329Li0.021)TiO3-xBiFeO3 (x = 0.2 or 0.4) system was designed to study the intrinsic ME coupling effect at room temperature and high frequencies. The polarization arises from the cooperative displacement of both Fe3+ and Ti4+ relative to the oxygen sublattice in the tetragonally distorted perovskite structure, and the magnetization stems from indirect exchange magnetic interaction between adjacent iron ions. A switchable voltage-controlled magnetization was confirmed by a change of the coercive magnetic field, Hc, and remnant magnetization, Mr, in the x = 0.4 component subjected to an external electric field at room temperature and was possibly attributed to a strain-mediated ME coupling effect. In addition, resonance behaviours of the complex magnetic permeability and complex dielectric permittivity in the GHz band indicate that this ME effect is intrinsic in nature and could broaden the applications of multiferroics to devices operating at microwave frequencies.

Near room temperature hexagonal multiferroic (Yb0.25Lu0.25In0.25Sc0.25)FeO3 high-entropy ceramics

In this work, h-RFeO3 multiferroic high-entropy ceramics are designed by introducing high-entropy concept with four elements (Yb, Lu, In, Sc) for R site. (Yb0.25Lu0.25In0.25Sc0.25)FeO3 high-entropy ceramics are prepared by the standard solid-state reaction methods. The samples prepared with precursors were identified to crystalize in the pure hexagonal structure with polar space group (P63cm) at room temperature. By the analysis of the variable XRD patterns, it is speculated that the ferroelectric transition temperature of the sample is above 773 K. Meanwhile, three magnetic anomalies are determined for high-entropy ceramics, which is the antiferromagnetic transition at Néel temperature TÑ280 K, the spin-reorientation temperature TSR∼145 K and the reasonable ferromagnetic-like clusters without long ordering in TN < T < TA (∼397 K). Besides, it is observed that the peak intensity of the pyroelectric current around TN can be tuned by magnetic field, which is indicated the magnetoelectric coupling effect in (Yb0.25Lu0.25In0.25Sc0.25)FeO3 high-entropy ceramics. These results indicate the ferroelectric and antiferromagnetic orders are coexist in the h-RFeO3 high-entropy ceramics as promising near room temperature multiferroic materials, and it is an effective way to obtain a new type single-phase multiferroic materials.

Enhancement of magnetoelectric coupling in laminate composites of textured Fe–Ga thin sheet and PZT

Magneto-mechano-electric (MME) generators consisting of piezoelectric and magnetostrictive materials can convert the stray magnetic noise to useful electric energy for the wireless sensor networks utilizing the magnetoelectric coupling effect and magnetic interactions. In this paper, a scalable engineering approach was proposed to fabricate the laminate MME generator composed of a PZT/Fe–Ga/PZT sandwich structure. The Goss-oriented Fe81Ga19 thin sheet with a large magnetostriction of 244 ppm was produced by a simple and low-cost approach, and the commercial polycrystalline piezoelectric ceramic products (PZT-5H) were used as the PZT layers. The effect of grain orientation, device structure, magnetic field amplitude, and resonance frequency on the electrical output of the PZT/Fe–Ga/PZT MME generator was investigated. The electrical output of the MME generator containing the Goss-oriented Fe81Ga19 thin sheet reached an AC voltage of 4.58 V and the ME coefficient of 76.33 V/cm·Oe under a low excitation magnetic field of 26 Oe at a low resonance frequency of 26 Hz. The MME generator with a Goss-oriented Fe–Ga layer shows 4.7 times higher output voltage and ME coupling coefficient than that with the no-oriented polycrystalline Fe–Ga layer, but only 81% of the latter’s resonance frequency. This is related to the significant increase in magnetostriction due to the texture transition after secondary recrystallization annealing at the temperature of 950 °C. This paper provides a very promising solution to meet the self-power supply needs of the Internet of Things utilizing low-value and low-frequency magnetic fields.

Concurrent existence of magneto-electric coupling and electro-optic Kerr effect in perovskite-based ternary composites for energy reservoirs

Multiferroics, specifically magneto-electric materials that couple the ferroelectric and ferromagnetic responses, have boosted researchers' interest in fabricating energy storage devices. For this purpose, we synthesized the perovskite-based triphasic composites using sol–gel auto- combustion and solid–state reaction route. The presence of pure perovskite phases and lattice parameters were noted by X-ray diffraction analysis. Further, Rietveld’s refinement confirmed the precision of phase analysis with a high degree of goodness of fit. The homogenous and uniform growth of grains for 0.1BiFeO3 + 0.7BaTiO3 + 0.2Nd0.5Dy0.5MnO3 composite was seen by field emission scanning electron microscope and scanning transmission electron microscope. The perfect match between empirical elemental composition and prepared composites was determined by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The highest remanent, maximum polarization, recoverable energy density, and ferroelectric efficiency were observed for the composite mentioned above. Furthermore, mathematical modeling via Python was carried out with ferroelectric data, and a mathematical relation was derived between the electric field and dielectric constant to observe the electro-optic Kerr effect. Similarly, the above-mentioned composite was seen with the highest coercive field, remanent, and maximum magnetization by M–H loops. Finally, the variation in polarization by changing the magnetic field confirmed M-E coupling and declared this 0.1BiFeO3 + 0.7BaTiO3 + 0.2Nd0.5Dy0.5MnO3 triphasic composite as best candidate for energy storage devices.

Electric field tuning of multistate and nonvolatile resistance variation in amorphous Fe75Si25/PMN-0.3PT (0 0 1) heterostructures

The multistate resistance states in the amorphous Fe75Si25/0.7Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.3PbTiO3 (PMN − 0.3PT) (001) heterostructure were modulated by electric fields (E). Based on the in-plane nonvolatile stress changes associated with ferroelectric domain switching in PMN-0.3PT, the widening and narrowing of surface gaps, and the fact that magnetism generally tracks the strain variation in amorphous Fe75Si25 films, the distinct four-state and nonvolatile resistance tuning near the coercive E-field are observed. Then, combining the converse magnetoelectric coupling and magnetoresistive effect, we quantify the coaction effect and equivalence relation between the E-field and magnetic fields (H) on the resistance modification. Meanwhile, another four-state resistance is obtained under the coaction of the E-fields and H-fields. All eight resistive states exhibit excellent E-field switchable behavior and stability performance at room temperature. These results provide a promising approach for exploring and designing multistate and multifield controlled spintronic memory devices.

Characterization of In‐Plane Piezoelectric Strain of Ferroelectric Thin Films by the Magnetoelectric Coupling Effect

Piezoelectric response of the ferroelectric/piezoelectric thin films is crucial for actuation of micro‐electromechanical systems (MEMS) devices as well as strain‐mediated electronic devices. Among many piezoelectric modes, longitudinal and transverse piezostrain is the most widely used. Various methods have been well established for quantitative characterization of the longitudinal piezostrain, such as laser interferometer and piezoelectric force microscopy. However, it is still a great challenge to characterize transverse piezostrain. Herein, a new method is established to characterize the transverse (in‐plane) piezostrain of ferroelectric/piezoelectric thin films by the inverse magnetoelectric (ME) coupling effect. A ferromagnetic thin film is patterned onto the ferroelectric thin film to form an artificial multiferroic heterostructure. The transverse piezostrain can transfer from the ferroelectric layer to the ferromagnetic layer and shift its ferromagnetic resonance field through the ME coupling effect. By comparing with a control sample of “bulk piezoceramic/ferromagnetic thin film” whose in‐plane piezostrain can be easily measured, the in‐plane piezostrain and piezoelectric coefficient of the ferroelectric thin films are then estimated. The in‐plane piezoelectric coefficient d31 and piezoelectric strain S31 of Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZT) thin films are measured by this method. This new method will promote to fully understand the piezoelectric properties of the ferroelectric/piezoelectric thin films.

Room temperature ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism in Ni-substituted Bi5Ti3FeO15

Aurivillius-type bismuth layer-structured ferroelectric (BLSF) Bi5Ti3FeO15 (BTF) has recently attracted considerable attention as a typical multiferroic material because ferroelectric and magnetic orders coexist, but bulk BTF exhibits antiferromagnetic (AFM) orders and negligible intrinsic magnetoelectric (ME) coupling effects. In this study, nickel-substituted Bi5Ti3FeO15 (Bi5Ti3Fe0.5Ni0.5O15, abbreviated as BTF-Ni) was synthesized using a solid-state reaction method to explore and enhance both the magnetic and ferroelectric properties of BTF. Polarization-electric field P-E loops indicate that the BTF-Ni exhibits considerable maximum polarization P m of 11.9 μC/cm2 and remnant polarization P r of 5.8 μC/cm2, but still keeps a very high ferroelectric Curie temperature (FE T c) of 1029 K, which are much superior to those of pure BTF. Moreover, magnetization-magnetic field M-H loops indicate that BTF-Ni exhibits significant ferromagnetic properties with a large saturation magnetization M s of 60 memu/g, low coercive field H c of 31 Oe at room temperature, and a high ferromagnetic Curie temperature (FM T c) of 698 K, whereas pure BTF has an antiferromagnetic Néel temperature (T N) of 80 K. Our work suggests that nickel-substituted BTF is a potential room-temperature magnetoelectric multiferroic material.

Effects of W/Co co-doping on the structural, multiferroic, dielectric and optical properties of filled tungsten bronze Ba4Sm2Fe2Nb8O30 ceramics

The structural, magnetic, ferroelectric, dielectric, magneto-dielectric and optical properties of W/Co co-substituted tungsten bronze Ba4Sm2Fe2Nb8-3x(W2Co)xO30 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.3) ceramics were studied in detail. All the samples can be indexed with the tetragonal structure with the space group of P4bm. The room-temperature ferromagnetism with rather high ferromagnetic Curie temperature Tc was obtained in all compositions. The co-doping of W/Co ions obviously optimized the ferromagnetism and ferroelectricity. The composition x = 0.2 showed a superior multiferroicity with the remnant magnetization Mr of 0.15 emu/g and the remnant polarization Pr of 2.1μC/cm2 as well as the Tc of 886 K. The low-temperature relaxation was related to the thermal process of oxygen vacancies, while the another one around 300 K was ascribed to the localized hopping of electrons. The relative increment of magneto-dielectric constant (MDC) obeyed with the square term of magnetization in Ginzburg-Landau theory, implying the existence of intrinsic magneto-electric coupling effect. A relatively large MDC of 0.17 % was achieved in pure sample. In addition, two direct inter-band transitions with the narrow band gaps of ∼2.0 eV and ∼2.5 eV were demonstrated.

Enhanced magnetoelectric coupling performance in CoFe2O4 @BaTiO3 multiferroic liquid by tuning the CoFe2O4 morphology

Multiferroic materials are identified as a newly emerging area of research because of their obvious magnetoelectric effects between ferroelectric and ferromagnetic orders. This paper uses the ball milling method to prepare CoFe2O4 @BaTiO3 (CFO@BTO) multiferroic liquids with different CoFe2O4 (CFO) particle morphologies. The settling stability and magnetoelectric properties of the CFO@BTO multiferroic liquids with different CFO particle morphologies have been systematically studied. XRD analysis confirmed that the crystal structure of the powders was consistent with that of standard cards, and the CFO powders exhibited irregular spherical shapes, well-dispersed rectangular shapes, and uniform nanowires. TEM images revealed a core-shell structure of the formed particles. The study found that as the CFO particle morphology changed from spherical to rectangular and then to nanowire, both the residual magnetization intensity (Mr) and saturation magnetization intensity (Ms) of both CFO powder and CFO@BTO composite powder increased gradually. The settling rate of the multiferroic liquids with spherical CFO morphology was observed to be 4.6% with good settling stability after resting for 48 h. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss showed similar trends in the presence and absence of magnetic fields. With the change in CFO particle morphology, the maximum polarization strength (Pmax), residual polarization strength (Pr), and coercivity field strength (Ec) of the multiferroic liquids gradually increased. The magnetoelectric coupling coefficient of the multiferroic liquids was found to be the largest when the CFO morphology was rectangular, measuring 23.93 V/(cm·Oe). The study provides insights into improving the magnetoelectric coupling effect of multiferroic materials and opens up new possibilities for further research in this area.

Analysis of the microstructural and magnetodielectric behavior in multiferrioc Cr1.3Fe0.7O3 nanoparticles

Single phase Cr1.3Fe0.7O3 has been successfully prepared by wet chemical method, accompanied by the surface morphology with pure diamond shaped structure of corundum and uniform grain growth. The splitting of magnetization curves at ∼220 K during varying temperature measurement indicates the magnetocrystalline anisotropy with the coexistence of antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic phases. The obvious dielectric relaxation behavior has been determined above ∼125 K with the activation energy of 0.0318 eV, which is attributed to the dipolar relaxation caused by short-range polaron range hopping in the magnetic grains. The arresting magnetoelectric coupling effect near room temperature is certified in Cr1.3Fe0.7O3 from ∼125 K, with the maximum coupling coefficient of 5 % at ∼212 K. These characteristics mean that the sample has potential application value in fields such as spintronics devices and magnetoelectric memories.

Advantages of Ferroelectrics as a Component of Heterostructures for Electronic Purposes: A DFT Insight.

The main advantage of using ferroelectric materials as a component of complex heterostructures is the ability to tune various properties of the whole system by means of an external electric field. In particular, the electric field may change the polarization direction within the ferroelectric material and consequently affect the structural properties, which in turn affects the electronic and magnetic properties of the neighboring material. In addition, ferroelectrics allow the electrostriction phenomenon to proceed, which is promising and can be used to affect the magnetic states of the interface state in the heterostructure through a magnetic component. The interfacial phenomena are of great interest, as they provide extended functionality useful for next-generation electronic devices. Following the idea of utilizing ferroelectrics in heterostructural components in the present works, we consider 2DEG, the Rashba effect, the effect of magnetoelectric coupling, and magnetostriction in order to emphasize the advantages of such heterostructures as components of devices. For this purpose, model systems of LaMnO3/BaTiO3, La2CuO4/BaTiO3, Bi/BaTiO3, and Bi/PbTiO3, Fe/BaTiO3 heterostructures are investigated using density functional theory calculations.

Nonlinear low-velocity impact of magneto-electro-elastic plates with initial geometric imperfection

Magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) materials are widely used in the aviation and spaceflight area, attributed to magneto-electric coupling effect of MEE materials which can achieve mutual energy conversion in complex physical fields. This article takes the imperfect MEE plate as the research object to explore the nonlinear low-velocity behaviors, and the influence of multiple physical fields such as electric, magnetic and temperature fields are taken into account. Based on Maxwell's equations and first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT), the constitutive equation of MEE plate is obtained, and the nonlinear motion equations are derived using the Euler-Lagrange principle. Subsequently, with the aid of the Galerkin method, the ordinary differential equations are obtained by discretizing the partial differential equations. Then the low-velocity impact problem is solved using the Runge-Kutta method. Finally, the impacts of unknown factors upon the dynamic behaviors of the MEE plate are illustrated particularly. It can be found that the magnetic and electric potentials have opposite effects on the impact displacement of the plate, and the MEE plate with the lowest volume fraction of BaTiO3 has the smallest center displacement and the shortest contact time, but has the maximum contact force.
