Inelastic neutron scattering experiments were performed on the intermediate valent systems SmB 6 , Sm 0 75 Y 0 25 S, and EuPd 2 Si 2 prepared from 11 B, 154 Sm and 153 Eu isotopes (roughly 98% enrichment). Neutron scattering data on EuPd 2 Si 2 reflect the already known valence change around T = 150 K by the behaviour of the quasielastic line and of the inelastic multiplet transition line. Quasielastic scattering is very hard to detect in both Sm-systems, since the magnetic cross section of the Sm 3+ -configuration is very small (0.43 b). However, in the case of SmB 6 it seems that inealastic lines exist at T = 5 K with an intensity consistent with the expected magnetic intensity for a 2.6-valent Sm-ion. The linewidth of the multiplet transition within the Sm2+-configuration is not observable in StmB 6 .
