Two-Dimensional Adiabatic Model for Calculating Progressions Resulting from Stretch–Rock Coupling in Vibrational Spectra of Anion–Water Complexes

Several anion-water dimers feature a distinct progression in the OH stretch region of their vibrational spectra. This progression arises from strong anharmonic couplings between the OH stretch and low-frequency intermolecular modes. In this work, we introduce a two-dimensional adiabatic model accounting explicitly for the water and anion rock degrees of freedom and use it to calculate the vibrational spectra of HCO2-·(H2O) and NO3-·(H2O). The spectra calculated by using this model are in excellent agreement with experiment, in terms of both peak spacings and lengths of the progressions, and represent a substantial improvement over earlier models.

Impact of nuclear quantum effects on the structural inhomogeneity of liquid water

The 2D Raman-terahertz (THz) response of liquid water is studied in dependence of temperature and isotope substitution ([Formula: see text]O, [Formula: see text]O, and [Formula: see text]O). In either case, a very short-lived (i.e., between 75 and 95 fs) echo is observed that reports on the inhomogeneity of the low-frequency intermolecular modes and hence, on the heterogeneity of the hydrogen bond networks of water. The echo lifetime slows down by about 20% when cooling the liquid from room temperature to the freezing point. Furthermore, the echo lifetime of [Formula: see text]O is [Formula: see text] slower than that of [Formula: see text]O, and both can be mapped on each other by introducing an effective temperature shift of [Formula: see text] K. In contrast, the temperature-dependent echo lifetimes of [Formula: see text]O and [Formula: see text]O are the same within error. [Formula: see text]O and [Formula: see text]O have identical masses, yet [Formula: see text]O is much closer to [Formula: see text]O in terms of nuclear quantum effects. It is, therefore, concluded that the echo is a measure of the structural inhomogeneity of liquid water induced by nuclear quantum effects.

Microscopic origin of entropy-driven polymorphism in hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite materials

Entropy is a critical, but often overlooked, factor in determining the relative stabilities of crystal phases. The importance of entropy is most pronounced in softer materials, where small changes in free energy can drive phase transitions, which has recently been demonstrated in the case of organic-inorganic hybrid-formate perovskites. In this study we demonstrate the interplay between composition and crystal-structure that is responsible for the particularly pronounced role of entropy in determining polymorphism in hybrid organic-inorganic materials. Using ab initio based lattice dynamics we probe the origins and effects of vibrational entropy of four archetype perovskite (ABX$_3$) structures. We consider a fully inorganic material (SrTiO$_3$), an A-site hybrid halide material (CH$_3$NH$_3$PbI$_3$), an X-site hybrid material (KSr(BH$_4$)$_3$) and a mixed A- and X-site hybrid-formate material (N$_2$H$_5$Zn(HCO$_2$)$_3$), comparing the differences in entropy between two common polymorphs. The results demonstrate the importance of low-frequency inter-molecular modes in determining phase stability in these materials. The understanding gained allows us to propose a general principle for the relative stability of different polymorphs of hybrid materials as temperature is increased.

MULTIMODE quantum calculations of vibrational energies and IR spectrum of the NO+(H2O) cluster using accurate potential energy and dipole moment surfaces

A new, full (nine)-dimensional potential energy surface and dipole moment surface to describe the NO(+)(H2O) cluster is reported. The PES is based on fitting of roughly 32,000 CCSD(T)-F12/aug-cc-pVTZ electronic energies. The surface is a linear least-squares fit using a permutationally invariant basis with Morse-type variables. The PES is used in a Diffusion Monte Carlo study of the zero-point energy and wavefunction of the NO(+)(H2O) and NO(+)(D2O) complexes. Using the calculated ZPE the dissociation energies of the clusters are reported. Vibrational configuration interaction calculations of NO(+)(H2O) and NO(+)(D2O) using the MULTIMODE program are performed. The fundamental, a number of overtone, and combination states of the clusters are reported. The IR spectrum of the NO(+)(H2O) cluster is calculated using 4, 5, 7, and 8 modes VSCF/CI calculations. The anharmonic, coupled vibrational calculations, and IR spectrum show very good agreement with experiment. Mode coupling of the water "antisymmetric" stretching mode with the low-frequency intermolecular modes results in intensity borrowing.

The Effects of Different Electron-Phonon Couplings on the Spectral and Transport Properties of Small Molecule Single-Crystal Organic Semiconductors

Spectral and transport properties of small molecule single-crystal organic semiconductors have been theoretically analyzed focusing on oligoacenes, in particular on the series from naphthalene to rubrene and pentacene aiming to show that the inclusion of different electron-phonon couplings is of paramount importance to interpret accurately the properties of prototype organic semiconductors. While, in the case of rubrene, the coupling between charge carriers and low frequency inter-molecular modes is sufficient for a satisfactory description of spectral and transport properties, the inclusion of electron coupling to both low frequency inter-molecular and high frequency intra-molecular vibrational modes is needed to account for the temperature dependence of transport properties in smaller oligoacenes.

Structural and Dynamic Properties of a Hydrogen Bond from the Study of the CH3Cl–HCl Complex and Isotopic Species

The microwave (4-20 GHz range) and infrared (HCl and DCl stretch ranges) spectra of six isotopic species of the CH3Cl-HCl hydrogen bond complex have been recorded for the first time and analyzed with the support of high level ab initio calculations (MP2 and CCSD(T) levels). Accurate molecular parameters, including rotational, quartic centrifugal distortion, and nuclear-quadrupole coupling constants, vibrational frequencies, and anharmonic coupling constants, are presented in this paper. These parameters have then been used to estimate the hydrogen bond geometry and confirm the strong coupling between intramolecular and low frequency intermolecular modes. Experimental and theoretical evidence, in agreement with each other, tend to point out a free rotation of the CH3Cl unit in the complex, emphasizing the very peculiar dynamical properties of a hydrogen bond and, consequently, the necessity of taking those effects into account to correctly model the intra- and intermolecular interactions.

Experimental and theoretical study of absorption spectrum of the (CH3)2CO⋯HF complex. Influence of anharmonic interactions on the frequency and intensity of the C[dbnd]O and H–F stretching bands

IR absorption spectra of mixtures (CH3)2CO/HF and free (CH3)2CO molecules are recorded in the region of 4000–900cm−1 with a Bruker IFS-125 HR vacuum Fourier spectrometer at room temperature with a resolution up to 0.02cm−1. Spectral characteristics of the 2ν(CO) overtone band of free acetone are reliably measured. The ν1(HF) and ν(CO) absorption bands of the (CH3)2CO⋯HF complex are obtained by subtracting the absorption bands of free HF and acetone and absorption lines of atmospheric water from the experimental spectrum of mixtures. The experimental data are compared with theoretical results obtained from variational solutions of 1D–4D vibrational Schrödinger equations. The anharmonic potential energy and dipole moment surfaces used in the calculations were computed in the MP2/6-311++G(2d,2p) approximation with corrections for the basis set superposition error. Comparison of the data derived from solutions for different combinations of vibrational degrees of freedom shows that taking the inter-mode anharmonic interactions into account has different effects on the transition frequencies and intensities. Particular attention has been given to elucidation of the influence of anharmonic coupling of the H–F and CO stretches with the low-frequency intermolecular modes on their frequencies and intensities and the strength of resonance between the fundamental H–F and the first overtone CO transitions.

π-Stacking, C–H/π, and Halogen Bonding Interactions in Bromobenzene and Mixed Bromobenzene–Benzene Clusters

Noncovalent interactions play an important role in many chemical and biochemical processes. Building upon our recent study of the homoclusters of chlorobenzene, where π-π stacking and CH/π interactions were identified as the most important binding motifs, in this work we present a study of bromobenzene (PhBr) and mixed bromobenzene-benzene clusters. Electronic spectra in the region of the PhBr monomer S0-S1 (ππ*) transition were obtained using resonant two-photon ionization (R2PI) methods combined with time-of-flight mass analysis. As previously found for related systems, the PhBr cluster spectra show a broad feature whose center is red-shifted from the monomer absorption, and electronic structure calculations indicate the presence of multiple isomers and Franck-Condon activity in low-frequency intermolecular modes. Calculations at the M06-2X/aug-cc-pVDZ level find in total eight minimum energy structures for the PhBr dimer: four π-stacked structures differing in the relative orientation of the Br atoms (denoted D1-D4), one T-shaped structure (D5), and three halogen bonded structures (D6-D8). The calculated binding energies of these complexes, corrected for basis set superposition error (BSSE) and zero-point energy (ZPE), are in the range of -6 to -24 kJ/mol. Time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) calculations predict that these isomers absorb over a range that is roughly consistent with the breadth of the experimental spectrum. To examine the influence of dipole-dipole interaction, R2PI spectra were also obtained for the mixed PhBr···benzene dimer, where the spectral congestion is reduced and clear vibrational structure is observed. This structure is well-simulated by Franck-Condon calculations that incorporate the lowest frequency intermolecular modes. Calculations find four minimum energy structures for the mixed dimer and predict that the binding energy of the global minimum is reduced by ~30% relative to the global minimum PhBr dimer structure.

Coupling of Low- and High-Frequency Vibrational Modes: Broadening in the Infrared Spectrum of F–(H2O)2

We present ab initio calculations of the infrared (IR) spectra of the strongly anharmonic clusters F–(H2O) and F–(H2O)2 using full-dimensional potential energy and dipole moment surfaces. The full-dimensional F–(H2O)2 potential energy surface is composed of previously published one- and two-body water potentials, a two-body F–H2O potential, and a new three-body F–(H2O)2 potential. The three-body water–fluoride potential is a fit to 16 111 second-order Møller–Plesset perturbation theory (MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ) energies using permutationally invariant polynomials. The IR spectrum of F–(H2O)2 is computed using 6-, 8-, 10-, and 13-dimensional VSCF/VCI in order to illustrate the effects of mode coupling and intensity borrowing between the high-frequency intramolecular modes and the low-frequency intermolecular modes. Comparisons with Ar-tagged action spectra are also made.

On π-stacking, C-H/π, and halogen bonding interactions in halobenzene clusters: Resonant two-photon ionization studies of chlorobenzene

Noncovalent interactions such as hydrogen bonding, π-π stacking, CH/π interactions, and halogen bonding play crucial roles in a broad spectrum of chemical and biochemical processes, and can exist in cooperation or competition. Here we report studies of the homoclusters of chlorobenzene, a prototypical system where π-π stacking, CH/π interactions, and halogen bonding interactions may all be present. The electronic spectra of chlorobenzene monomer and clusters (Clbz)(n) with n = 1-4 were obtained using resonant 2-photon ionization in the origin region of the S(0)-S(1) (ππ*) state of the monomer. The cluster spectra show in all cases a broad spectrum whose center is redshifted from the monomer absorption. Electronic structure calculations aid in showing that the spectral broadening arises in large part from inhomogeneous sources, including the presence of multiple isomers and Franck-Condon (FC) activity associated with geometrical changes induced by electronic excitation. Calculations at the M06-2x/aug-cc-pVDZ level find in total five minimum energy structures for the dimer, four π-stacked structures, and one T-shaped, and six representative minimum energy structures were found for the trimer. The calculated time-dependent density functional theory spectra using range-separated and meta-GGA hybrid functionals show that these isomers absorb over a range that is roughly consistent with the breadth of the experimental spectra, and the calculated absorptions are redshifted with respect to the monomer transition, in agreement with experiment. Due to the significant geometry change in the electronic transition, where for the dimer a transition from a parallel displaced to sandwich structure occurs with a reduced separation of the two monomers, significant FC activity is predicted in low frequency intermolecular modes.

Nanostructural Organization in Acetonitrile/Ionic Liquid Mixtures: Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Optical Kerr Effect Spectroscopy

The nanostructural organization and subpicosecond intermolecular dynamics in mixtures of acetonitrile and the ionic liquid (IL) 1-pentyl-3-methylimidazolium bis{(trifluoromethane)sulfonyl}amide ([C(5)mim][NTf(2)]) are studied as a function of concentration using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and optical heterodyne-detected Raman-induced Kerr effect spectroscopy. The MD simulations show the IL to be nanostructurally organized into an ionic network and nonpolar domains, with CH(3)CN molecules localized in the interfacial region between the ionic network and nonpolar domains, as found previously by other researchers. The MD simulations indicate strong interactions between CH(3)CN and the hydrogen atoms on the imidazolium ring of the cation. The low-frequency (0-200 cm(-1)) intermolecular part of the reduced spectral densities (RSDs) of the mixtures narrows and shifts to lower frequency as the concentration of CH(3)CN increases. These spectral changes can be partly attributed to the increasing contribution of the low-frequency intermolecular modes of CH(3)CN to the RSD. At a given composition, the RSD of a mixture is found to be broader and higher in frequency than the corresponding ideal RSD given by the volume-fraction-weighted sum of the RSDs of the neat liquids. This difference is rationalized in terms of the competition between CH(3)CN-cation interactions and solute-induced disruption of the ionic networks.

Chemical Dynamics Simulations of X– + CH3Y → XCH3 + Y– Gas-Phase SN2 Nucleophilic Substitution Reactions. Nonstatistical Dynamics and Nontraditional Reaction Mechanisms

Extensive classical chemical dynamics simulations of gas-phase X(-) + CH(3)Y → XCH(3) + Y(-) S(N)2 nucleophilic substitution reactions are reviewed and discussed and compared with experimental measurements and predictions of theoretical models. The primary emphasis is on reactions for which X and Y are halogen atoms. Both reactions with the traditional potential energy surface (PES), which include pre- and postreaction potential energy minima and a central barrier, and reactions with nontraditional PESs are considered. These S(N)2 reactions exhibit important nonstatistical atomic-level dynamics. The X(-) + CH(3)Y → X(-)---CH(3)Y association rate constant is less than the capture model as a result of inefficient energy transfer from X(-)+ CH(3)Y relative translation to CH(3)Y rotation and vibration. There is weak coupling between the low-frequency intermolecular modes of the X(-)---CH(3)Y complex and higher frequency CH(3)Y intramolecular modes, resulting in non-RRKM kinetics for X(-)---CH(3)Y unimolecular decomposition. Recrossings of the [X--CH(3)--Y](-) central barrier is important. As a result of the above dynamics, the relative translational energy and temperature dependencies of the S(N)2 rate constants are not accurately given by statistical theory. The nonstatistical dynamics results in nonstatistical partitioning of the available energy to XCH(3) +Y(-) reaction products. Besides the indirect, complex forming atomic-level mechanism for the S(N)2 reaction, direct mechanisms promoted by X(-) + CH(3)Y relative translational or CH(3)Y vibrational excitation are possible, e.g., the roundabout mechanism.

A Polarizable Water Model for Intramolecular and Intermolecular Vibrational Spectroscopies

We have developed a polarizable water model for classical molecular dynamics simulations of vibrational spectroscopies, which covers from low-frequency intermolecular modes to high-frequency intramolecular vibrational modes. The model utilizes the ab initio derived geometry-dependent multipole moment surfaces to depict the instantaneous charge density of a water molecule. Multipoles up to quadrupole are included for the permanent multipoles, while those up to dipole are included for the induced multipoles. The polarization of molecules is described by a distributed polarizability model. At room temperature, the present model is able to reproduce experimental infrared and Raman spectra of intramolecular vibrational modes, except for the blue peak shift due to a limitation of the classical simulation based on a quantum mechanical potential. The calculated infrared spectrum for low-frequency intermolecular modes agreed reasonably well with the experimental signals.

Fluorescence excitation and excited state intramolecular proton transfer of jet-cooled naphthol derivatives: part 2. 2-Hydroxy–1-naphthaldehyde

The S(1)← S(0) fluorescence excitation spectrum of jet-cooled 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde (2H1N) with origin at 26,668 cm(-1) has been measured. Nine totally symmetric modes and three non-totally symmetric modes have been assigned in the excitation spectrum. Ab initio calculations indicate that 2H1N undergoes a planarity change upon excitation, which may account for the unusual intensity of non totally symmetric vibrational modes in the excitation spectrum. A number of low intensity features were observed on the low energy side of the origin which have been assigned to the 2H1N dimer rather than different ground state confomers of 2H1N. The origin of the S(1)← S(0) electronic transition of the dimer lies at ~26,401 cm(-1); combinations of two low frequency intermolecular modes of the dimer (59 cm(-1) and 17 cm(-1)) were also observed. The occurrence of excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) in 2H1N cannot be proven on the basis of this work. A comparison of the (photo)physical properties of 2H1N with 1-hydroxy-2-naphthaldehyde (1H2N) [A. McCarthy and A.A. Ruth, PCCP, 2011, 13, 7485-7499 (Part 1)], however, indicate the plausibility of an ESIPT process in 2H1N. The strength of the intramolecular hydrogen bond (IMHB) in 2H1N was computed as ~10.6 kcal/mol, a value comparable to the IMHB strength of 1H2N. The establishment of a lower limit on the state lifetimes of 2H1N, of ~1.8 ps, indicates that any proposed ESIPT reaction in 2H1N may not proceed barrierlessly. Above an excess energy of ~1000 cm(-1), the intensity of the fluorescence excitation spectrum reduces significantly, indicating the onset of a non-radiative decay mechanism.

Comparative analysis of the H–F stretching band in absorption spectra of gas-phase complexes of HF with water, dimethyl ether, and acetone

Comparative analysis of the ν 1(H–F) stretching band shapes in the absorption spectra of complexes of HF with water, dimethyl ether, and acetone and the mechanisms of formation of this band is performed by comparing the experimental spectra and results of nonempirical quantum–mechanical calculations. The experimental spectra of complexes considered were obtained by subtracting the spectra of monomers from the experimental spectra of gaseous mixtures recorded at different temperatures in the region of the ν 1(H–F) band at a high resolution with Bruker IFS-113v and Вruker IFS-125 HR vacuum Fourier spectrometers. These spectra are compared with the band shapes reconstructed theoretically with the use of electro-optical parameters obtained from variational solutions of multidimensional anharmonic vibrational problems. The equilibrium geometries of the complexes, their potential energy and dipole moment surfaces necessary for solving these problems were calculated ab initio at a high level of theory. In this approach the internal anharmonicity of the ν 1(H–F) mode and its interaction with all low-frequency intermolecular modes are considered explicitly. Anharmonic interactions between different intermolecular motions are also analyzed in detail. The inter-mode interactions are found to have different effects on the frequency and absolute intensity of the ν 1(H–F) fundamental transition. Comparison of the data for different complexes shows that the resulting spectral manifestations of the anharmonic effects depend on the interplay between the H-bond strength, the barrier height for tunneling, the magnitudes of frequencies of intermolecular vibrations, rotational constants, etc. The reconstruction of spectra as a superposition of rovibrational bands of the fundamental, hot, and combination transitions with calculated values of absolute intensities can reproduce the shape and separate details of the experimental spectra. Analysis of the experimental and calculated data provides reliable values of the fundamental ν 1(H–F) transition frequency, indicates its position in the spectrum, and elucidates the nature of different structural features.

Roles of inter- and intramolecular vibrations and band-hopping crossover in the charge transport in naphthalene crystal

We calculate the hole and electron mobilities in naphthalene crystal from 10 to 300 K within the framework of the Holstein-Peierls model coupled with first-principles density-functional-theory-projected tight-binding band structures. All the electron-phonon coupling constants, including both local and nonlocal parts for inter- and intramolecular vibrations, have been taken into considerations through density functional theory. The band-hopping crossover transition temperature for the electron transport in the c' axis is calculated to be around 23 K. We have identified a few high frequency intramolecular vibrations which are very important to the charge transport in naphthalene crystal due to their comparatively large electron-phonon coupling constants. However, their contributions to the temperature dependence of mobility are minor because of the small phonon occupations and small nonlocal coupling strengths. The low frequency intermolecular modes (longitudinal optical modes) are found to be the major contributions to the temperature dependent charge transfer properties in naphthalene crystal. Even though the calculated qualitative temperature dependence is in agreement with experiment, the predicted absolute mobility is about one to two orders of magnitude larger.

Fluorescence spectroscopy of jet-cooled chiral (±)-indan-1-ol and its cluster with (±)-methyl- and ethyl-lactate

The laser-induced fluorescence excitation, dispersed fluorescence, and IR-UV double resonance spectra of chiral (+/-)-indan-1-ol have been measured in a supersonic expansion. Three low energy conformers of the molecule have been identified, and the ground state vibrational modes of each conformer are tentatively assigned with the aid of quantum chemistry calculations. The frequencies of the nu(OH) and nu(CH) stretch modes of the two most abundant conformers have been measured by fluorescence dip IR spectroscopy and have been used for their assignment. The dispersed fluorescence spectra clearly indicate the coupling of low-frequency modes, as was seen in other substituted indanes such as 1-aminoindan and 1-amino-2-indanol. (R)- and (S)-indan-1-ol distinctly form different types of clusters with (R)- and (S)- methyl- and ethyl-lactate. Both hetero- and homochiral clusters are characterized by complex spectra which exhibit a progression built on low-frequency intermolecular modes.

Temperature- and solvation-dependent dynamics of liquid sulfur dioxide studied through the ultrafast optical Kerr effect

The ultrafast dynamics of liquid sulphur dioxide have been studied over a wide temperature range and in solution. The optically heterodyne-detected and spatially masked optical Kerr effect (OKE) has been used to record the anisotropic and isotropic third-order responses, respectively. Analysis of the anisotropic response reveals two components, an ultrafast nonexponential relaxation and a slower exponential relaxation. The slower component is well described by the Stokes-Einstein-Debye equation for diffusive orientational relaxation. The simple form of the temperature dependence and the agreement between collective (OKE) and single molecule (e.g., NMR) measurements of the orientational relaxation time suggests that orientational pair correlation is not significant in this liquid. The relative contributions of intermolecular interaction-induced and single-molecule orientational dynamics to the ultrafast part of the spectral density are discussed. Single-molecule librational-orientational dynamics appear to dominate the ultrafast OKE response of liquid SO2. The temperature-dependent OKE data are transformed to the frequency domain to yield the Raman spectral density for the low-frequency intermolecular modes. These are bimodal with the lowest-frequency component arising from diffusive orientational relaxation and a higher-frequency component connected with the ultrafast time-domain response. This component is characterized by a shift to higher frequency at lower temperature. This result is analyzed in terms of a harmonic librational oscillator model, which describes the data accurately. The observed spectral shifts with temperature are ascribed to increasing intermolecular interactions with increasing liquid density. Overall, the dynamics of liquid SO2 are found to be well described in terms of molecular orientational relaxation which is controlled over every relevant time range by intermolecular interactions.

Vibrational dynamics of the hydrogen bond in H2S–HF: Fourier-transform-infrared spectra and ab initio theory

The rotationally resolved infrared spectrum of the hydrogen bonded complex H(2)S-HF and of its isotopomer D(2)S-DF in the HF/DF stretching range have been observed in a supersonic jet Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) experiment and indicate a predissociation lifetime of 130 ps for H(2)S-HF. Complementary spectra taken at a temperature of 190 K in a cell without resolved rotational structure indicate the presence of strong anharmonic couplings between low frequency intermolecular modes and the HF donor stretch mode previously observed in other complexes with heavier acceptor molecules without rotational fine structure. The anharmonic analysis of the hot band progressions and of the rotational data confirm the coupling mechanism. The coupling constants and the absolute frequency of the hydrogen bonded stretch mode are in excellent agreement with theoretical predictions based on adiabatic variational calculations on potential surfaces computed at MP2 and CCSD(T) level. Complementary calculations with a perturbational approach further confirm the coupling model.

Vibrational dynamics of the hydrogen bonded complexes (CH2)2O–HF and –DF investigated by combined jet- and cell-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy

Fourier transform infrared spectra of the Vs stretching bands of HF and DF bonded to (CH2)2O have been recorded at 0.5 cm(-1) resolution in a cooled cell and in a supersonic expansion seeded with argon. The analysis of the congested spectra of this type of medium strength hydrogen bonded complexes exploits a combination of controlled temperature effects in the ranges 25-80 K and 200-300 K and a band contour simulation program accounting for homogeneous and inhomogeneous contributions. Significant anharmonic couplings between the donor stretch mode and three of the low frequency intermolecular modes are found to be responsible for the characteristic hot band patterns in the Vs fundamental region of cell spectra. A global analysis of sum and difference combination bands involving Vs provides reliable values of intermolecular frequencies, anharmonic coupling constants and a good estimate of the dissociation energy of the complex which compares favorably with ab initio results. The effective linewidth provides a lower bound for the predissociation lifetime of 1.5 ps for HF and 7 ps for DF containing complexes, respectively. The correlation between effective linewidths and vibrational densities of states for (CH2)2O-HF and -DF underlines the important role of intramolecular vibrational redistribution in the vibrational dynamics of these complexes while the lifetime decrease for HF (or DF) bonded to oxygenated cyclic ethers with respect to sulfured homologues might be explained by the change in the arrangement of the acid relative to the plane of the acceptor subunit.
