DO WE HAVE TO CONTINUE ANTISEIZUE MEDICATIONS POST SURGERY IN LONG-TERM EPILEPSY ASSOCIATED TUMORS (LEATs)?

ObjectiveTo identify the rate of successful antiseizure medication (ASM) withdrawal after resective surgery in patients with long-term epilepsy-associated tumors (LEATs). MethodsA retrospective analysis (from our prospectively archived data) on the post-operative ASM profile of 123 consecutive patients who completed a minimum of 2 years after resection of LEATs for ASM-resistant epilepsy. A comparison between recurred and non-recurred groups in terms of seizure recurrence was used to identify the potential predictors of seizure recurrence whose attributes were further analyzed using univariate and multiple logistic regression analysis. Kaplan-Meier survival curves were used to study the probability of ASM freedom following surgery. ResultsWe attempted ASM withdrawal in 102 (82.9%) patients. Forty-eight (47.1%) had seizure recurrence while reducing ASM, of which 22 (21.6%) continued to have seizures even after ASM optimisation. On univariate analysis, presence of pre-operative secondary generalized seizure(s) was the only factor associated with seizure recurrence. At a mean follow-up of 6.1 years, 72 (58.5%) patients were seizure-free and aura-free at terminal follow-up (53 patients were off any ASM). The cumulative probability of achieving complete ASM-free status was 29% at fourth year, 42% at sixth year, 55% at eighth year, and 59% at 10th year after surgery. ConclusionsFollowing resective surgery for LEATs, ASM(s) could be successfully discontinued in half of the patients. About one-third of the patients may have recurrent seizures on follow-up. Presence of secondary generalized seizure(s) prior to surgery predicts seizure recurrence, whereas MRI defined completeness of resection will not. This information will help in rationalising decisions on ASM management post-resection.

Long-term epilepsy associated-tumors (LEATs): what is new?

Long-term epilepsy-associated tumors (LEATs) include a series of neoplasms that commonly occur in children, adolescents, or young adults, have an astrocytic or glioneuronal lineage, are histologically benign (WHO grade1) with a neocortical localization predominantly situated in the temporal lobes. Clinically, chronic refractory epilepsy is usually the unique symptom. Gangliogliomas (GG) and dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumors (DNT) are the most common representative entities besides pilocytic astrocytomas (PA) and angiocentric gliomas (AG). Recent molecular studies have defined new clinicopathological entities, which are recognized by the WHO 2021 classification of brain tumors. Some of them such as diffuse astrocytoma MIB or MYBL1 altered, polymorphous low-grade neuroepithelial tumor of the young (PLNTY), and multilocular and vacuolating neuronal tumor (MVNT) are currently considered LEATs. The relationship between LEATs and epilepsy is still a matter of debate, and there is a general agreement about the beneficial effects of an early neurosurgical intervention on the clinical outcome.

Leat-associated seizures the possible role of EAAT2, pyruvate carboxylase and glutamine synthetase

BackgroundDrug-resistant epilepsy is a common condition in patients with brain neoplasms. The pathogenesis of tumor-associated seizures is poorly understood. Among the possible pathogenetic mechanisms, the increase in glutamate concentration has been proposed. Glutamate transporters, glutamine synthetase and pyruvate carboxylase are involved in maintaining the physiological concentration of glutamate in the intersynaptic spaces. In our previous research on angiocentric gliomas, we demonstrated that all tumors lacked the expression of the main glutamate transporter EAAT2, while the expression of glutamine synthetase and pyruvate carboxylase was mostly preserved. MethodsIn the present study, we evaluated the immunohistochemical expression of EAAT2, glutamine synthetase and pyruvate carboxylase in a heterogeneous series of 25 long-term epilepsy-associated tumors (10 dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumors, 7 gangliogliomas, 3 subependymal giant cell astrocytomas, 3 rosette forming glioneuronal tumors, 1 diffuse astrocytoma MYB- or MYBL1-altered and 1 angiocentric glioma). In order to evaluate the incidence of variants in the SLC1A2 gene, encoding EAAT2, in a large number of central nervous system tumors we also queried the PedcBioPortal. ResultsEAAT2 protein expression was lost in 9 tumors (36 %: 3 dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumors, 1 ganglioglioma, 3 subependymal giant cell astrocytomas, 1 diffuse astrocytoma MYB- or MYBL1-altered and 1 angiocentric glioma). Glutamine synthetase protein expression was completely lost in 2 tumors (8 %; 1 ganglioglioma and 1 diffuse astrocytoma MYB- or MYBL1-altered). All tumors of our series but rosette forming glioneuronal tumors (in which neurocytic cells were negative) were diffusely positive for pyruvate carboxylase. Consultation of the PedcBioPortal revealed that of 2307 pediatric brain tumors of different histotype and grade, 20 (< 1%) had variants in the SLC1A2 gene. Among the SLC1A2-mutated tumors, there were no angiocentric gliomas or other LEATs ConclusionsIn conclusion, unlike angiocentric gliomas where the EAAT2 loss is typical and constant, the current study shows the loss of EAAT2 expression only in a fraction of the LEATs. In these cases, we may hypothesize some possible epileptogenic role of the EAAT2 loss. The retained expression of pyruvate carboxylase may contribute to determining a pathological glutamate excess unopposed by glutamine synthetase that resulted expressed to a variable extent in the majority of the tumors. Furthermore, we can assume that the EAAT2 loss in brain tumors in general and in LEATs in particular is more conceivably epigenetic.

210 Intra-Operative Electrocorticography (ECoG) for Lesional Epilepsy: A Randomized Controlled Trial (IO-ECoG Trial)

INTRODUCTION: Usage of Electrocorticography (ECoG) is not clearly established. Robust evidence doesnot exist to support its regular usage in Long term Epilepsy associated tumors (LEATs) which constitutes approximately 25-35% cases of drug resistant epilepsy. METHODS: Prospective randomized controlled trial, including all patients operated for drug resistant epilepsy with non-eloquent area LEATs. Patients were randomized into 2 groups namely Group I (without usage of ECoG) and Group II (with ECoG usage). Group II patients further underwent tailored resections if necessary, as per ECoG practice protocols. Surgical outcomes were evaluated for seizure outcome (Engel scale) and adverse event profile. RESULTS: Total of 38 patients operated for LEATs having drug resistant epilepsy were included in the study with mean age of 21.1 years (range 2-46 years). 18 patients belonged to Group I and 20 patients belonged to Group II with mean follow-up period of 11.02 months (range 3-22 months). 30% patients (n = 6) in Group II underwent extended resection based on rhythmic persistent post resection spikes. 90% of Group II patients had Engel score Ia during follow up compared to 77.7% of Group I with Engel score Ia (p = 0.302). In Group II, 85.7% patients with extended tailored resection had Engel score Ia compared to 83.8% cases without extended resection (p = 0.904). CONCLUSIONS: Though ECoGs role may have been established in focal cortical dysplasia, its utility in LEATs is limited. Our randomized study confirmed that there is no added benefit conferred by the use of ECoG in LEATS. Additional tailored resections aided by ECoG also did not yield seizure outcome benefits in LEATS.

Metabolism and Intracranial Epileptogenicity in Temporal Lobe Long-Term Epilepsy-Associated Tumor.

Brain tumors are common in epilepsy surgery and frequently occur in the temporal lobe, but the optimal surgical strategies to remove the tumor and epileptogenic zone remain controversial. We aim at illustrating the positron emission tomography (PET) metabolism and the stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) epileptogenicity of temporal lobe long-term epilepsy-associated tumors (LEAT). In this study, 70 patients and 25 healthy controls were included. Our analysis leveraged group-level analysis to reveal the whole-brain metabolic pattern of temporal lobe LEATs. The SEEG-based epileptogenicity mapping was performed to verify the PET findings in the epileptic network. Compared to controls, patients with a temporal lobe LEAT showed a more widespread epileptic network based on 18FDG-PET in patients with a mesial temporal lobe LEAT than in those with a lateral temporal lobe LEAT. The significant brain clusters mainly involved the paracentral lobule (ANOVA F = 9.731, p < 0.001), caudate nucleus (ANOVA F = 20.749, p < 0.001), putamen (Kruskal–Wallis H = 19.258, p < 0.001), and thalamus (ANOVA F = 4.754, p = 0.011). Subgroup analysis and SEEG-based epileptogenicity mapping are similar to the metabolic pattern. Our findings demonstrate the metabolic and electrophysiological organization of the temporal lobe LEAT epileptic network, which may assist in a patient-specific surgical strategy.

The landscape of common genetic drivers and DNA methylation in low-grade (epilepsy-associated) neuroepithelial tumors: A review.

Low-grade neuroepithelial tumors (LNETs) represent an important group of central nervous system neoplasms, some of which may be associated to epilepsy. The concept of long-term epilepsy-associated tumors (LEATs) includes a heterogenous group of low-grade, cortically based tumors, associated to drug-resistant epilepsy, often requiring surgical treatment. LEATs entities can sometimes be poorly discriminated by histological features, precluding a confident classification in the absence of additional diagnostic tools. This study aimed to provide an updated review on the genomic findings and DNA methylation profiling advances in LNETs, including histological entities of LEATs. A comprehensive search strategy was conducted on PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science Core Collection. High-quality peer-reviewed original manuscripts and review articles with full-text in English, published between 2003 and 2022, were included. Results were screened based on titles and abstracts to determine suitability for inclusion, and when addressed the topic of the review was screened by full-text reading. Data extraction was performed through a qualitative content analysis approach. Most LNETs appear to be driven mainly by a single genomic abnormality and respective affected signaling pathway, including BRAF p.V600E mutations in ganglioglioma, FGFR1 abnormalities in dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor, MYB alterations in angiocentric glioma, BRAF fusions in pilocytic astrocytoma, PRKCA fusions in papillary glioneuronal tumor, between others. However, these molecular alterations are not exclusive, with some overlap amongst different tumor histologies. Also, clustering analysis of DNA methylation profiles allowed the identification of biologically similar molecular groups that sometimes transcend conventional histopathological classification. The exciting developments on the molecular basis of these tumors reinforce the importance of an integrative histopathological and (epi)genetic classification, which can be translated into precision medicine approaches.

Long-term epilepsy-associated tumors

The goal of this review is to summarize data concerning radiological and histological diagnosis of epileptogenic tumors, as well as to discuss their surgical treatment. PubMed literature database was searched for relevant articles, we also used our own clinical experience. Benign glioneuronal tumors are the second most common cause of drug resistant epilepsy in adults after hippocampal sclerosis. Exceptionally slow growth (more than 2 years), localization in the brain cortex, presence of differentiated neuronal tissue in tumoral body and long history of epilepsy are the key features of these tumors called LEAT (long-term epilepsy-associated tumors). Management of LEAT requires epileptological as well as neurooncological approach. The epileptogenic zone commonly spreads beyond the tumor borders and simple lesionectomy alone may not be sufficient for achieving seizure freedom. LEAT typically exhibit low proliferative activity, however they should be thoroughly differentiated from more aggressive glial tumors; while this task is sometimes quite challenging, it's achievable by means of histological and immunohistochemical examination.

Chapter 23 - Neuropathology of the temporal lobe

Neuropathological examination of the temporal lobe provides a better understanding and management of a wide spectrum of diseases. We focused on inflammatory diseases, epilepsy, and neurodegenerative diseases, and highlighted how the temporal lobe is particularly involved in those conditions. Although all these diseases are not specific or restricted to the temporal lobe, the temporal lobe is a key structure to understand their pathophysiology. The main histological lesions, immunohistochemical markers, and molecular alterations relevant for the neuropathological diagnostic reasoning are presented in relation to epidemiology, clinical presentation, and radiological findings. The inflammatory diseases section addressed infectious encephalitides and auto-immune encephalitides. The epilepsy section addressed (i) susceptibility of the temporal lobe to epileptogenesis, (ii) epilepsy-associated hippocampal sclerosis, (iii) malformations of cortical development, (iv) changes secondary to epilepsy, (v) long-term epilepsy-associated tumors, (vi) vascular malformations, and (vii) the absence of histological lesion in some epilepsy surgery samples. The neurodegenerative diseases section addressed (i) Alzheimer's disease, (ii) the spectrum of frontotemporal lobar degeneration, (iii) limbic-predominant age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy, and (iv) α-synucleinopathies. Finally, inflammatory diseases, epilepsy, and neurodegenerative diseases are considered as interdependent as some pathophysiological processes cross the boundaries of this classification.

Clinical semiology of temporal lobe seizures in preschool children: contribution of invasive recording to anatomical classification.

Focal seizure semiology is often inadequately studied, specifically in preschool children. Among drug-resistant epilepsies amenable to surgery, temporal lobe seizure semiology has been widely described in this age group. Nevertheless, a systematic anatomo-electroclinical study has never been performed. We retrospectively reviewed the charts of patients younger than six years old at the time of video-EEG recording who were operated on for temporal lobe epilepsy in our centre between 2010 and 2016. In order to describe the electroclinical semiology and establish anatomo-clinical correlations, we reviewed all the recorded seizures on scalp and invasive video-EEG and analysed pre- and postsurgical clinical data, MRI scans, and surgical and pathological data. We classified patients into the following four anatomical groups: mesio-temporal, temporal lateral, polar, and mesio-lateral, and for each group we selected video-EEG samples for educational purposes. Twenty-eight patients fulfilled the selection criteria. Twenty-three patients (82%) were explored with invasive electrodes that consisted of foramen ovale electrodes in 11 (39%) and stereoelectroencephalography in 12 (43%). The majority of the 53% of patients with mesio-temporal epilepsies had specific ictal semiology, as described in adults. The others had subtle seizures or seizures limited to apnoea. The other groups also had some features comparable to adults, although no child reported the classic auras of lateral epilepsies. In total, 11% had infantile spasms (IS); post-ictal examination provided lateralization signs in 28%. With a mean post-surgical follow-up duration of 5.5 years, 89% of the patients were classified as Engel Class I. Preschool children were shown to have non-specific seizures, notably subtle events or IS. However, careful video-EEG analysis can provide arguments for localizing the epileptogenic zone within the temporal lobe in most cases. Seizures with apnoea are characteristic of mesial temporal onset in patients with long-term epilepsy-associated tumours.

Neuropathology of Surgically Managed Epilepsy Specimens.

Epilepsy is characterized as recurrent seizures, and it is one of the most prevalent disorders of the human nervous system. A large and diverse profile of different syndromes and conditions can cause perturbations in neural networks that are associated with epilepsy. Advances in neuroimaging and electrophysiological monitoring have enhanced our ability to localize the neuropathological lesions that alter the neural networks giving rise to epilepsy, whereas advances in surgical management have resulted in excellent seizure control in many patients following resections. Histopathologic study using a variety of special stains, molecular analysis, and functional studies of these resected tissues has facilitated the neuropathological characterization of these lesions. Here, we review the neuropathology of common structural lesions that cause epilepsy and are amenable to neurosurgical resection, such as hippocampal sclerosis, focal cortical dysplasia, and its associated principal lesions, including long-term epilepsy-associated tumors, as well as other malformations of cortical development and Rasmussen encephalitis.

The neuropathology of epilepsy aims at diagnosing the cerebral lesions underlying epilepsy that are obtained from epilepsy surgery, or rarely from biopsy or autopsy. The main histopathological and immunohistochemical characteristics of several entities are described: epilepsy-associated hippocampal sclerosis, long-term epilepsy-associated tumours, cortical malformations, vascular malformations, glial scars, encephalitides, and focal neuronal lipofuscinosis. The diagnostic approach, the differential diagnosis and the histochemical and immunohistochemical tools are detailed in order to provide the pathologist with a summarized toolkit to handle the broad range of epileptogenic lesions.

Long-Term Epilepsy-Associated Tumors (LEATs): A Single-Center, Retrospective Series and Review of Literature on Factors Affecting the Seizure Outcome

Tumors presenting with drug-resistant seizures are termed as long-term epilepsy-associated tumors (LEATs). LEATs are more common in the temporal lobe, occur predominantly in pediatric age, and focal neurological deficits are rare. In this article, we aim to highlight our surgical experience in terms of seizure outcome among LEATs and discuss the factors affecting outcome. We have retrospectively analyzed all the operated cases of intra-axial brain tumors with seizures (2015-2019). The clinical and radiographic data were collected from the hospital record system. For comparison, 2 groups were made (group 1 with good seizure control, i.e., Engel 1; and group 2 poor seizure outcome, i.e., Engel 2 and 3). A total of 51 cases were included; the temporal lobe was the most common location (n= 27); 23 patients had seizure frequency of "more than 1 seizure per week." Focal unaware seizures/complex partial seizures were the most common type of seizures encountered (n= 28). At a mean follow-up of 39.60 months, 38 patients had Engel 1 (78.5%) outcome (35 cases [71.05%] had the seizure duration of ≤2 years). The median duration of symptoms (group 1, 25 months vs. group 2, 65 months) was significantly different (P= 0.002). On comparing patients with seizure duration, we found a statistically significant difference (P < 0.00001). A shorter duration of symptoms, younger age of the patient, partial/focal seizures, and gross total excision were predictors of a good seizure outcome. Histopathology of the tumor does not affect the outcome when one compares glioneuronal tumors with non-glioneuronal tumors.

Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma Presenting as Long-Term Complex Focal Epilepsy of the Frontal Lobe: Case Report

Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA) is a rare tumor with favorable prognosis, classified as grade II in the World Health Organization (WHO) and accounts for less than 1% of all astrocytic neoplasm. It is commonly found in childhood and young adults. This tumor has been described as part of the spectrum of Long-Term Epilepsy Associated Tumors (LEAT). The most common location is supratentorial, involving predominantly the temporal lobe.

Factors affecting seizure outcome in Long-term epilepsy associated tumors (LEATs) in children and young adolescents

ObjectiveTumors with seizures as primary mode of presentation are collectively called Long-term epilepsy associated tumors (LEATs or Epileptomas). The overall survival is good so ‘seizure outcome’ becomes the primary goal rather than neuro-oncological outcome. MethodsA retrospective analysis of our surgical database (2015−19) was done to find operated patients of intra-axial brain tumors with age less than 25-years and who had presented with seizures. ResultsThe mean age at presentation was 16.44 years (SD + 6.82 years). Complex partial seizures/focal unaware seizures were the most common type of seizures encountered (n = 22) with mean duration of seizures was 49.50 months (SD + 31.04 months). The most common pathology was glioneuronal tumors (GNTs) (n = 17). Gross total resection (GTR) group had a significantly better seizure outcome as compared with the Subtotal resection (STR) group (p = 0.006). Presence of focal or partial seizure was a significant factor pointing towards a better seizure control (p = 0.005). ConclusionThe shorter duration of symptoms, partial/focal seizures and gross total excision were predictors of a good seizure-outcome. Age of the patient and the histopathology of the tumor does not affect seizure-outcome on comparing GNTs with non GNTs.

Long-term epilepsy-associated tumors: transcriptional signatures reflect clinical course

Long-term epilepsy-associated tumors (LEATs) represent mostly benign brain tumors associated with drug-resistant epilepsy. The aim of the study was to investigate the specific transcriptional signatures of those tumors and characterize their underlying oncogenic drivers. A cluster analysis of 65 transcriptome profiles from three independent datasets resulted in four distinct transcriptional subgroups. The first subgroup revealed transcriptional activation of STAT3 and TGF-signaling pathways and contained predominantly dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumors (DNTs). The second subgroup was characterized by alterations in the MAPK-pathway and up-stream cascades including FGFR and EGFR-mediated signaling. This tumor cluster exclusively contained neoplasms with somatic BRAFV600E mutations and abundance of gangliogliomas (GGs) with a significantly higher recurrence rate (42%). This finding was validated by examining recurrent tumors from the local database exhibiting BRAFV600E in 90% of the cases. The third cluster included younger patients with neuropathologically diagnosed GGs and abundance of the NOTCH- and mTOR-signaling pathways. The transcript signature of the fourth cluster (including both DNTs and GGs) was related to impaired neural function. Our analysis suggests distinct oncological pathomechanisms in long-term epilepsy-associated tumors. Transcriptional activation of MAPK-pathway and BRAFV600E mutation are associated with an increased risk for tumor recurrence and malignant progression, therefore the treatment of these tumors should integrate both epileptological and oncological aspects.

Clinical Pearls and Advances in Molecular Researches of Epilepsy-Associated Tumors.

Brain tumors are the second most common type of structural brain lesion that causes chronic epilepsy. Patients with low-grade brain tumors often experience chronic drug-resistant epilepsy starting in childhood, which led to the concept of long-term epilepsy-associated tumors (LEATs). Dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor and ganglioglioma are representative LEATs and are characterized by young age of onset, frequent temporal lobe location, benign tumor biology, and chronic epilepsy. Although highly relevant in clinical epileptology, the concept of LEATs has been criticized in the neuro-oncology field. Recent genomic and molecular studies have challenged traditional views on LEATs and low-grade gliomas. Molecular studies have revealed that low-grade gliomas can largely be divided into three groups : LEATs, pediatric-type diffuse low-grade glioma (DLGG; astrocytoma and oligodendroglioma), and adult-type DLGG. There is substantial overlap between conventional LEATs and pediatric-type DLGG in regard to clinical features, histology, and molecular characteristics. LEATs and pediatric-type DLGG are characterized by mutations in BRAF, FGFR1, and MYB/MYBL1, which converge on the RAS-RAF-MAPK pathway. Gene (mutation)-centered classification of epilepsy-associated tumors could provide new insight into these heterogeneous and diverse neoplasms and may lead to novel molecular targeted therapies for epilepsy in the near future.

Cognitive features and surgical outcome of patients with long-term epilepsy-associated tumors (LEATs) within the temporal lobe

ObjectiveThe objective of the study was to evaluate cognitive and epilepsy-related features in 166 surgically treated patients with epilepsy with long-term epilepsy-associated tumors (LEATs) located in the temporal lobe. MethodPre- and postsurgical cognitive as well as the one-year seizure outcome of adult patients with histopathologically confirmed LEATs (28 grade-I dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumors (DNET), 95 grade-I gangliogliomas (GG), 24 grade-I pilocytic astrocytomas (PA), 9 grade-II pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA), 10 grade-II diffuse astrocytoma (DA)) who underwent epilepsy surgery in Bonn/Germany between 1988 and 2012 were evaluated. ResultsAt baseline, tumor groups differed in regard to age at epilepsy onset and location within the temporal lobe. Postoperative seizure freedom was achieved most frequently (>77.8%) in DNET, GG, and DA, less often in PXA (62.5%) and the least in PA (56.5%). Preoperative memory was impaired in 67.1% of all patients, executive functions in 44.7%, and language in 45.5%. Patients with PA displayed the poorest cognitive performance. Individual significant memory decline that was observed in 27.1% of all patients was predicted by left-sided surgery, a mesial pathology, and extended hippocampal resection. Executive functions depended on antiepileptic drug (AED) load and remained stable (72.0%) or even improved (21.6%) after surgery. Language functions were unchanged in 89.5% of patients. ConclusionPatients with LEATs in the temporal lobe frequently show cognitive impairments. Predictors for pre- and postoperative cognition mostly correspond to what is known for temporal lobe epilepsy and resections in general. However, different tumor types appear to be associated with different cognitive and seizure outcomes with astrocytoma as the least benefitted group.

Review: Molecular characteristics of long‐term epilepsy‐associated tumours (LEATs) and mechanisms for tumour‐related epilepsy (TRE)

Brain tumours are the second most common cause of seizures identified in epilepsy surgical series. While any tumour involving the brain has the potential to cause seizures, specific subtypes are more frequently associated with epilepsy. Tumour-related epilepsy (TRE) has a profound impact on patients with brain tumours and these seizures are often refractory to anti-epileptic treatments, resulting in long-term disability and patient morbidity. Despite the drastic impact of epilepsy-associated tumours on patients, they have not traditionally enjoyed as much attention as more malignant neoplasms. However, recently a number of developments have been achieved towards further understanding of the molecular and developmental backgrounds of specific epilepsy-associated tumours. In addition, the past decade has seen an expansion in the literature on the pathophysiology of TRE. In this review, we aim to summarize the mechanisms by which tumours may cause seizures and detail recent data regarding the pathogenesis of specific developmental epilepsy-associated tumours.

MiR-217-casein kinase-2 cross talk regulates ERK activation in ganglioglioma.

Global microarray of ganglioglioma indicates downregulation of miR-217. Decreased miR-217 expression is concomitant with elevated CK-2α and Erk levels. Inverse correlation between miR-217 and CK-2α in primary human neural precursors. miR-217 agomir or CK-2α inhibition decreases pERK and mGluR1 levels. CK-2α affects miR-217/ERK/mGluR1 interplay in long-term epilepsy-associated tumors.
