The dawn of hydrogen and halogen bonds and their crucial role in collisional processes probing long-range intermolecular interactions.

This perspective review focuses on the results of an internally consistent study developed in the Perugia laboratory, centered on the fundamental interaction components that, at large intermolecular distances, determine the formation of weak intermolecular hydrogen (HB) and halogen (XB) bonds. This investigation exploits old and novel molecular beam scattering experiments involving several gaseous prototypical systems. In particular, we focus on the kinetic energy dependence of the total (elastic + inelastic) integral cross-sections. Of particular interest is the measure of quantum interference patterns in the energy dependence of cross-sections of targeted systems and their shift compared to that of known reference systems. We interpreted these findings as interaction energy stabilization components, such as charge transfer, σ-hole, and polar flattening, that emerge at intermediate separation distance ranges and selectively manifest for specific geometries of collision complexes. Another significant observable we discuss is the absolute value of the cross-section and its dependence on permanent multipole moments of the collisional partners. Specifically, we show how the spontaneous orientation of rotationally cold and polar molecules, due to the electric field gradient associated with the interaction between permanent multipole moments, can significantly modify the magnitude of the total cross-section, even at high values of the impact parameter. We are confident that the present results can help extend the force field formulation to various interacting systems and carry out molecular dynamics simulations under conditions of application interest.

A Specific Guide for Metalloenzyme Designers: Introduction and Evolution of Metal-Coordination Spheres Embedded in Protein Environments.

ConspectusMetalloproteins establish a comprehensive molecular space by combining inorganic cofactors with protein environments. The chemical interplay between a metal element and a protein matrix is remarkable yet elusive, as the chemical properties of metal ions do not directly translate into those of metalloenzymes when placed within a protein matrix. Instead, the biochemical context determines the metal-coordination geometries, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamic parameters, such as redox potential and Lewis acidity/basicity. The molecular design of novel metalloproteins, which involves varying the combination of the two major components, metal ion and protein, allows us to validate our current understanding of their chemical interactions, modulate protein structure and function toward specific directions, and create protein-based functional biomaterials and biocatalysts. Considering theoretically possible protein sequence combinations and several metal elements at several oxidation states, artificial metalloenzyme design is analogous to the drawing of new paintings with multiple colors and brush strokes.Our laboratory has developed minimalistic strategies to transform diverse proteins into artificial metalloproteins with novel architectures or catalytic functions. First, we analyzed the geometric parameters of native Zn-binding sites to introduce a tetrahedral zinc-binding motif to a non-α-helical protein scaffold that shows neither pre-existing affinity to any metal ion nor catalytic activity, such as the β-barrel outer membrane protein OmpF. We created a series of artificial Zn-binding OmpF variants that possess coordinatively unsaturated mononuclear Zn-ligation sites and exhibit hydrolytic activities with esters, β-lactams, and β-glycosides. The OmpF variants were further evolved to zinc-dependent glycosidases, addressing a central question in bioinorganic chemistry: can zinc ions directly associate with the hydrolytic cleavage of glycosidic bonds in sugars?To expand the scope of metalloprotein design, we also utilized a metal-chelating noncanonical amino acid, bipyridine-alanine, and constructed tunable dicopper-dependent oxidases and nickel/iridium-dependent photocatalytic cross-coupling enzymes. These advancements increased the complexity and precision of metalloenzyme design, revealing how protein matrices, in conjunction with metallocofactors in aqueous media, facilitate electron transfer and mediate multiple chemical events, such as proton transfer, substrate access, and product release, while suppressing adventitious reactions.Furthermore, we redesigned the secondary and tertiary metal-coordination spheres of manganese-dependent quercetin dioxygenase and zinc-dependent β-lactamase, respectively. Biochemical characterizations of the evolved enzymes revealed that metal ions harmoniously and selectively cooperate with protein environments such that seemingly unimportant residues play critical roles in tuning the electronic structures of the enzymes or determining the metal-dependent reactivity. Thus, our work establishes the fundamental basis of how metalloenzymes function via long-range intermolecular interactions and how we can control their structure and function in specific directions. Consequently, these novel metalloenzymes have provided possible snapshots of how they could have evolved under controlled chemical environments and potential prospects for how to design more sophisticated and efficient biocatalysts with accuracy at the molecular level.

Experimental NOE, Chemical Shift, and Proline Isomerization Data Provide Detailed Insights into Amelotin Oligomerization.

Amelotin is an intrinsically disordered protein (IDP) rich in Pro residues and is involved in hydroxyapatite mineralization. It rapidly oligomerizes under physiological conditions of pH and pressure but reverts to its monomeric IDP state at elevated pressure. We identified a 105-residue segment of the protein that becomes ordered upon oligomerization, and we used pressure-jump NMR spectroscopy to measure long-range NOE contacts that exist exclusively in the oligomeric NMR-invisible state. The kinetics of oligomerization and dissociation were probed at the residue-specific level, revealing that the oligomerization process is initiated in the C-terminal half of the segment. Using pressure-jump NMR, the degree of order in the oligomer at the sites of Pro residues was probed by monitoring changes in cis/trans equilibria relative to the IDP state after long-term equilibration under oligomerizing conditions. Whereas most Pro residues revert to trans in the oligomeric state, Pro-49 favors a cis configuration and three Pro residues retain an unchanged cis fraction, pointing to their local lack of order in the oligomeric state. NOE contacts and secondary 13C chemical shifts in the oligomeric state indicate the presence of an 11-residue α-helix, preceded by a small intramolecular antiparallel β-sheet, with slower formation of long-range intermolecular interactions to N-terminal residues. Although none of the models generated by AlphaFold2 for the amelotin monomer was consistent with experimental data, subunits of a hexamer generated by AlphaFold-Multimer satisfied intramolecular NOE and chemical shift data and may provide a starting point for developing atomic models for the oligomeric state.

Molecular Ordering and Nematic Character of Nonyloxy Benzoic Acid: Solvent and Thermodynamic Potentials Effect

Abstract: Benzoic acid derivative p-n-Nonyloxy Benzoic Acid (NOBA) has been chosen for the present investigation to analyze its properties under the effect of a polar aprotic solvent. Indication of stable phase has been examined by interaction-energy values both in pure form and in a polar aprotic solvent dimethylformamide (DMF, ε=38) for different modes of interaction. Complete neglect differential overlap (CNDO/2) method has been applied for net atomic charges and dipole moments at the atomic center. Modified version of Rayleigh–Schrödinger perturbation theory and multicentered-multipole expansion method have been used to regulate long-range intermolecular interactions, where short-range interactions have been studied by 6-exponential potential function. Details on phase behavior and phase stability of NOBA have been reported using statistical thermodynamic calculations of Helmholtz free energies and entropies in several modes of interaction. Hierarchical graphite oxide decorated UiO-66 for ultrahigh adsorption of dye with synergistic effect of ultrasonication: Experimental and density functional theory study

Indiscriminate disposal of azodyes demands the development of potential strategies for water treatment. Composites with tuned structural and functional properties, synthesized by amalgamation of 2D carbon materials with MOFs, emerges as a new generation adsorbents.Accordingly, our study focused on the synthesis of graphite oxide decorated UiO-66 MOF and its performance evaluation in ultrasonication assisted adsorptive removal of toxic Congo red dye from aqueous solution. The incorporation of GO tunes the microporous MOF to a hierarchical mesoporous/microporous structure. Theoretical analysis using density functional theory (DFT) was performed to predict the adsorption behaviour.The key finding which makes our study outstanding is the ultrahigh adsorption capacity (Qm − 1250 mg/g) of the synthesized composite, which is much higher than pure UiO-66, GO, and other reported adsorbents. The synergistic effect of the increased mesopore volume and availability of functional groups upon GO incorporation in the MOF improves the adsorption capacity. Adsorption occurs due to long-range intermolecular covalent and noncovalent interactions. The superior dye removal efficiency of the synthesized adsorbent along with good regeneration characteristics makes it a promising material for contaminants removal from aqueous solutions.

Voltage-Induced Bistability of Single Spin-Crossover Molecules in a Two-Dimensional Monolayer.

Bistable spin-crossover molecules are particularly interesting for the development of innovative electronic and spintronic devices as they present two spin states that can be controlled by external stimuli. In this paper, we report the voltage-induced switching of the high spin/low spin electronic states of spin-crossover molecules self-assembled in dense 2D networks on Au(111) and Cu(111) by scanning tunneling microscopy at low temperature. On Au(111), voltage pulses lead to the nonlocal switching of the molecules from any─high or low─spin state to the other followed by a spontaneous relaxation toward their initial state within minutes. On the other hand, on Cu(111), single molecules can be addressed at will. They retain their new electronic configuration after a voltage pulse. The memory effect demonstrated on Cu(111) is due to an interplay between long-range intermolecular interaction and molecule/substrate coupling as confirmed by mechanoelastic simulations.

Pyramidal Dicationic Ge(II) Complexes with Homoleptic Neutral Pnictine Coordination: A Combined Experimental and Density Functional Theory Study

An unusual series of Ge(II) dicationic species with homoleptic phosphine and arsine coordination, [Ge(L)][OTf]2, L = 3 × PMe3, triphos (MeC(CH2PPh2)3), triars (MeC(CH2AsMe2)3), or κ3-tetraphos (P(CH2CH2PPh2)3) (OTf- = O3SCF3-) have been prepared by reaction of [GeCl2(dioxane)] with L and 2 mol equiv of Me3SiOTf in anhydrous CH2Cl2 (or MeCN for L = triars, triphos). X-ray crystal structures are reported for [Ge(PMe3)3][OTf]2, [Ge(triars)][OTf]2, and [Ge(κ3-tetraphos)][OTf]2, confirming homoleptic P3- or As3-coordination at Ge(II) in each case and with the discrete OTf- anions providing a charge balance. The Ge-P/As bond lengths are significantly shorter than those in neutral germanium(II) dihalide complexes with diphosphine or diarsine coordination. Solution NMR spectroscopic data indicate that the complexes are labile in solution. Using excess AsMe3 and [GeCl2(dioxane)] gives only the neutral product, [Ge(AsMe2)2(OTf)2], the crystal structure of which shows four coordination at Ge(II), via two As donor atoms and an O atom from two κ1-OTf- ligands; further weak, long-range intermolecular interactions give a chain polymer. The electronic structure of the [Ge(PMe3)3]2+ dication has been investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The computed geometrical parameters for this dication are in good agreement with the experimental X-ray crystallographic values in [Ge(PMe3)3][OTf]2. The results also indicate that the pyramidal arrangement of the [Ge(PMe3)3]2+ (computed P-Ge-P angle 96.8° at the B3LYP-D3 level) arises from a balance between electronic energy (Eelec) contributions, which favor a lower P-Ge-P angle, and nuclear-nuclear contributions (Enn), which favor a higher P-Ge-P angle, to the total energy (ETOT). An Atoms in Molecules (AIM) analysis reveals that one reason why Eelec decreases as the P-Ge-P angle decreases is because of C···H and H···H interactions between atoms on different CH3 groups. The stability of the [Ge(PMe3)3]2+ dication is enhanced by the distribution of a significant part of the positive charge on Ge2+ to the atomic centers of the PMe3 ligands. Similar results were obtained for [Ge(AsMe3)3][OTf]2, showing the tris-AsMe3 complex to be less stable compared to the PMe3 analogue. Related calculations were also performed for the neutral [Ge(PMe3)2(OTf)2] and [Ge(AsMe3)2(OTf)2] complexes.

Structure and phase behavior of alkoxy benzoic acids in DMSO for thermodynamic applications: Theoretical investigation

This manuscript emphasizes the phase behavior of p-n-Octyloxy Benzoic acid (OOBA) and p-n-Nonyloxy Benzoic acid (NOBA) which are homologues of alkoxy benzoic acid. Fluctuation of the intermolecular interaction energies have been noticed according to rotational and translational co-ordinates for both the compounds in vacuum and under the influence of polar aprotic solvent Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO, ε=47). Structures of the molecules have been framed for both the compounds using published crystallographic data. All the charges of atoms and dipole moments of each atom have been estimated on the basis of complete neglect differential overlap (CNDO/2) method. Long-range intermolecular interactions have been considered by modified Rayleigh–Schrodinger perturbation theory and multicentered-multipole expansion method. Short-range interactions have been described by 6-exponential potential function. Theoretical thermodynamic formulations are chosen for the determination of Helmholtz free energies, entropies and internal energies. Existence of liquid crystal phase and its behavior have been discussed by the combined results achieved from relative free energy (ΔA) and relative entropy (ΔS) data. The possibility of addressing the multi-phase phenomenon is discussed from these relative values. The present data is expected to provide a route to analyze behavior of molecules in various solvents, and property prediction for thermodynamic applications.

Long-Range Surface-Assisted Molecule-Molecule Hybridization.

Metalated phthalocyanines (Pc's) are robust and versatile molecular complexes, whose properties can be tuned by changing their functional groups and central metal atom. The electronic structure of magnesium Pc (MgPc)-structurally and electronically similar to chlorophyll-adsorbed on the Ag(100) surface is investigated by low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy, non-contact atomic force microscopy, and density functional theory. Single, isolated MgPc's exhibit a flat, fourfold rotationally symmetric morphology, with doubly degenerate, partially populated (due to surface-to-molecule electron transfer) lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals (LUMOs). In contrast, MgPc's with neighbouring molecules in proximity undergo a lift of LUMOs degeneracy, with a near-Fermi local density of states with reduced twofold rotational symmetry, indicative of a long-range attractive intermolecular interaction. The latter is assigned to a surface-mediated two-step electronic hybridization process. First, LUMOs interact with Ag(100) conduction electrons, forming hybrid molecule-surface orbitals with enhanced spatial extension. Then, these delocalized molecule-surface states further hybridize with those of neighbouring molecules. This work highlights how the electronic structure of molecular adsorbates-including orbital degeneracies and symmetries-can be significantly altered via surface-mediated intermolecular hybridization, over extended distances (beyond 3nm), having important implications for prospects of molecule-based solid-state technologies.

The Critical Role of Materials' Interaction in Realizing Organic Field-Effect Transistors Via High-Dilution Blending with Insulating Polymers.

High-performance low-band-gap polymer semiconductors are visibly colored, making them unsuitable for transparent and imperceptible electronics without reducing film thickness to the nanoscale range. Herein, we demonstrate polymer/insulator blends exhibiting favorable miscibility that improves the transparency and carrier transport in an organic field-effect transistor (OFET) device. The mesoscale structures leading to more efficient charge transport in ultrathin films relevant to the realization of transparent and flexible electronic applications are explored based on thermodynamic material interaction principles in conjunction with optical and morphological studies. By blending the commodity polymer polystyrene (PS) with two high-performing polymers, PDPP3T and P (NDI2OD-T2) (known as N2200), a drastic difference in morphology and fiber network are observed due to considerable differences in the degree of thermodynamic interaction between the conjugated polymers and PS. Intrinsic material interaction behavior establishes a long-range intermolecular interaction in the PDPP3T polymer fibrillar network dispersed in the majority (80%) PS matrix resulting in a ca. 3-fold increased transistor hole mobility of 1.15 cm2 V-1 s-1 (highest = 1.5 cm2 V-1 s-1) as compared to the pristine material, while PS barely affects the electron mobility in N2200. These basic findings provide important guidelines to achieve high mobility in transparent OFETs.

Soliton lattices originating from excitons interacting with high-intensity fields in finite molecular crystals

The effects of long-range intermolecular interactions on characteristic features of soliton bound states, consisting of localized excitons and polaritons in molecular crystals interacting with a high-intensity optical field, are investigated. Analytical solutions to the resulting modified nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation are obtained in terms of elliptic-type bright- and dark-soliton structures, which are assumed to correspond to periodic trains of pulse solitons and kink solitons respectively. Long-range intermolecular interactions are shown to renormalize the exciton-polariton interaction strength, hence generating a significantly huge increase in amplitudes of the bright solitons but a decrease in amplitudes of dark solitons. Results suggest that long-range intermolecular interactions hold relevant roles, both qualitatively and quantitatively, in the formation of amplitude and phase modulated strongly nonlinear exciton-polariton solitary-wave patterns, as well as in the energy transfer along molecular crystals interacting with high-intensity optical fields.

Long-Range Ordered Structures of Corannulene Governed by Electrostatic Repulsion and Surface-State Mediation.

The adsorption and assembly of sub-monolayered bowl-shaped corannulene (COR) on Cu(111) and Ag(111) are investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Three COR configurations, namely, up, down, and tilted ones, are formed on Cu(111), as unraveled by high-resolution STM images. It is also experimentally revealed that monodispersed, hexagonal, and evenly spaced stripe patterns develop on both Cu(111) and Ag(111). A quantitative evaluation of the long-range intermolecular interaction on Cu(111) mediated by electrostatic repulsion and surface-state mediation is presented. At 0.05 monolayer (ML), the long-range monodispersed pattern is mainly induced by electrostatic interaction. At 0.24 and 0.47 ML, however, surface-state mediation plays a dominant role, and the electrostatic interaction is leveled due to the identical static environment for each molecule.

Quantum Dynamics and Kinetics of the F + H2 and F + D2 Reactions at Low and Ultra-Low Temperatures.

Integral cross sections and rate constants for the prototypical chemical reactions of the fluorine atom with molecular hydrogen and deuterium have been calculated over a wide interval of collision energy and temperature ranging from the sub-thermal (50 K) down to the ultra-cold regimes (0.5 mK). Rigorous close coupling time-independent quantum reactive scattering calculations have been carried out on two potential energy surfaces, differing only at long-range in the reactants' channel. The results show that tunnel, resonance and virtual state effects enhance under-barrier reactivity giving rise to pronounced deviations from the Arrhenius law as temperature is lowered. Within the ultra-cold domain (below 1 mK), the reactivity is governed by virtual state effects and by tunneling through the reaction barrier; in the cold regime (1 mK–1 K), the shape resonances in the entrance channel of the potential energy surface make the quantum tunneling contribution larger so enhancing cross sections and rate constants by about one order of magnitude; at higher temperatures (above 10 K), the tunneling pathway enhanced by the constructive interference between two Feshbach resonances trapped in the reaction exit channel competes with the thermally activated mechanism, as the energy gets closer to the reaction barrier height. The results show that at low temperatures cross sections and rate constants are extremely sensitive to small changes in the long-range intermolecular interaction in the entrance channel of the potential energy surface, as well as to isotopic substitution.

Quantum and Thermodynamic Estimation of Mesostate Behaviour of Alkyl Benzoic Acids in Dielectric Medium: Comparative Study

Quantum and thermodynamic estimation of mesostate behaviour of p-n-alkyl benzoic acid with pentyl (PBA), hexyl (HBA) groups has been studied in dielectric medium (benzene). The complete neglect differential overlap (CNDO/2) method has been implemented for the charges, dipole moment and its components analysis. The long-range intermolecular interactions have been examined using the modified Rayleigh–Schrodinger perturbation method coupled with multicentred multipole expansion method. For understanding the short-range interactions, a ‘6-exp’ potential function has been used. The interaction energy values have been used to estimate the probability of each configuration in a dielectric medium (benzene) using the Maxwell–Boltzmann formula at room temperature (300 K) and at nematic–isotropic transition temperatures. Thermodynamic view has been presented based on Helmholtz free energy and entropy. A correlation has been made between quantum statistical and thermodynamic data to estimate the mesostate behaviour of the title molecules.

Origin of Bath Gas Dependence in Unimolecular Reaction Rates.

The bath gas dependence of thermal unimolecular reaction rates arises from different rates and efficiencies of collisions between reactant and third-body molecules. This study aims to unravel the mechanistic origin of this dependence based on the classical trajectories of methyl isocyanide (CH3NC) colliding with 15 different bath gas molecules (CH3NC, He, Ar, H2, N2, CO, CO2, HCN, NH3, CH4, CH3F, CF4, C2H2, C2H4, and C2H6). The collision frequencies, energy transfer parameters, and relative third-body efficiencies are evaluated from the trajectory calculations. The relative third-body efficiencies of the studied bath gases are found to be in good agreement with available experimental data. The results indicate that differences in collision frequencies are the primary source of the bath gas dependence of the low-pressure rate constants. The nature of the long-range intermolecular interaction, particularly, its anisotropy, is suggested to play a key role in determining the collision frequency.

Electric properties of hydrated uracil: From micro- to macrohydration

The accurate description of solvent effects on electric and optical properties of a solvated molecule is a complex task involving appropriate consideration of short-range as well as long-range intermolecular interactions having direct (local field induced) and indirect (solvent structure induced) impacts on the properties. In this study, we investigate the effects of hydration on dipole moment and dipole polarizability of uracil (U), focusing on the evolution of the properties from micro- to macrohydration regime. The microhydrated structures were generated by Global Search Algorithm of Minima (GSAM). Our results show a general increase in both induced dipole moment and isotropic polarizability with the cluster size, with a sudden decrease of the polarizability when passing from U(H2O)5 to U(H2O)6. To explain the underlying effects, the variational-perturbational energy decomposition scheme (VP-EDS) was used. The interplay of hydrogen bonding between water molecules and the uracil molecule and hydrogen bonding between water molecules themselves is shown to be the driving force behind these trends. To represent the macrohydrated uracil, supermolecular (SM) and rigorous local field (RLF) methods were used, with representative structure generation performed by molecular dynamics (MD). The trends of induced electric properties with the cluster size are shown to be consistent between micro- and macrohydration regimes. While the induced dipole moment increases monotonically to a converged value of 1.305 ± 0.009 au, the induced isotropic polarizability, reaching maximum of 5.94 au for n = 8, slowly decreases again, and converges to the negative value (−1.21 ± 0.12 au), showing the decrease of the total polarizability of uracil in water. This study also clearly demonstrates that it is the electrostatic interaction which governs the significant property changes on going from micro- to macrohydration.

Photoelectron Angular Distribution Induced by Weak Intermolecular Interaction in Highly Ordered Aromatic Molecules

The photoelectron angular distribution of organic thin films is essential in the discussion of the (opto)electronic properties from the viewpoints of the spatial distribution of molecular orbitals and the interaction of molecular electronic states. We discuss the role of the weak intermolecular interaction in highly ordered aromatic molecules on the photoelectron angular distribution obtained by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). The experimental and theoretical investigation performed for superstructures of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) on Au(111) indicates that at least the intramolecular single-scattering process is necessary to be considered in simulation of the orbital tomography. Furthermore, ARPES spectra for various PAH monolayers reveal that the weak π-band dispersion is dependent on the surface Brillouin zone of the monolayer but not of the substrate. Fractional unstable patterns of energy in [formula omitted]helix proteins with long-range interactions

Energy transport and storage in α−helix proteins, in the presence of long-range intermolecular interactions, is addressed. The modified discrete Davydov model is first reduced to a space-fractional nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation, followed by the stability analysis of its plane wave solution. The phenomenon is also known as modulational instability and relies on the appropriate balance between nonlinearity and dispersion. The fractional-order parameter (σ), related to the long-range coupling strength, is found to reduce the instability domain, especially in the case 1 ≤ σ < 2. Beyond that interval, i.e., σ > 2, the fractional NLS reduces to the classical cubic NLS equation, whose dispersion coefficient depends on σ. Rogue waves solution for the later are proposed and the biological implications of the account of fractional effects are discussed in the context of energy transport and storage in α−helix proteins.

Long-range energy modes in [formula omitted]-helix lattices with inter-spine coupling

A system for three-strand α-helix proteins, with long-range dispersive interactions among polypeptide units, is considered. The associate improved Davydov model is shown to be fully described by a set of modified coupled discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equations, which involve long-range interactions between peptide groups along the protein strands. By means of the modulational instability theory, the competition between nonlinearity and long-range intermolecular interactions are shown to modify the domain of instability of plane waves. The impact of the competition between nonlinearity and long-range interactions, on the process of energy transport and storage, is also addressed numerically. It is shown that nonlinearity and the long-range couplings conspire to the emergence of trains of solitonic structures, when parameters are well chosen within the domain of instability of plane waves. The relevance of the improved model as well as the biological implications of the account of long-range intermolecular interactions, are discussed in the contexts of energy transport and storage in hydrogen-bonded molecular structures in general, and in α-helix proteins in particular.

Exciton-polariton soliton wavetrains in molecular crystals with dispersive long-range intermolecular interactions

The peculiar crystal structure of one-dimensional molecular solids originates from packing of an array of molecules in which intermolecular interactions are dominantly dispersive, including hydrogen-bond, van der Waals and London-type forces. These forces are usually relatively weaker than covalent and ionic bondings such that long-range intermolecular interactions should play important role in dispersion properties of molecular crystals such as polymers and biomolecular chain structures. In this work the effects of long but finite-range intermolecular interactions on single-exciton dispersion energy, and hence on characteristic parameters of periodic soliton trains associated with bound exciton-polariton states in one-dimensional molecular crystals interacting with an electromagnetic field, are investigated. Long-range interactions are shown to quantitatively modify the exciton-polariton soliton amplitudes, width and velocity as a result of shrinkage of the single-exciton energy spectrum. The soliton structures of interest are nonlinear wavetrains, consisting of periodically ordered single-pulse (i.e. bright) or single-kink (i.e. dark) solitons with equal separation between the constituent single-soliton modes. Periodic soliton structures are relevant and best suited for finite-size chain systems, where periodic boundary conditions rule the generation of nonlinear wave profiles. Generally they are of weaker nonlinearity compared to their single-soliton constituents as well established within the framework of their generation via the process of modulational instability
