Training for transformation: examining food systems courses at US land-grant universities

Higher education institutions can play an essential role in preparing students to participate in movements for just and sustainable food systems change. For the past two decades, many United States land-grant universities (LGUs) have developed food systems education (FSE) courses. This study examined the extent to which FSE courses employ four capacities deemed crucial by the FSE literature: multidimensional approaches, interdisciplinarity, centering equity, and training students to take action in food systems. The syllabi of 171 undergraduate courses at 20 LGUs were obtained by contacting instructors, and their course descriptions and learning outcomes were analyzed. This subset of LGUs were identified from the membership list of the Menus of Change University Research Collaborative (MCURC), a nationwide network of colleges using campus dining halls and classrooms as living laboratories for food systems change. Most course descriptions and learning outcomes exhibited multidimensional approaches and interdisciplinarity. However, many failed to incorporate teaching content and practices that help students critically examine equity and social justice issues in food systems, or engage in transformative change. LGUs have both the resources and urgent responsibility to empower students to be part of movements to transform unjust, unsustainable food systems. The findings of this study, and an accompanying open-access syllabus website, aim to accelerate the development of FSE curricula that prepare students to change food systems.

Impact of collective knowledge on individual research competence: exploring the mediating influence of knowledge management processes

PurposeThe purpose of the current study is to investigate the impact of collective knowledge on individual research competence. Further, the study investigates the mediation effect of the knowledge management process (KMP).Design/methodology/approachThe cross-sectional study adopts a quantitative conclusive research design. The study collects data specifically from academicians of Uttarakhand higher education institutions (HEIs). The study uses random sampling because the list of faculty members is uploaded on the website of the university portal. The author directly sends the questionnaire to the email of the respondents and uses social media platforms. For the data analysis, the study used SMART-PLS 4.0.FindingsThe findings of the study reveal that KM infrastructure (KMI) and KM strategy directly impact KMP. The study also reveals that the KMP significantly impacts individual research competence. The current study also finds partial mediation support among KMI, KMP and individual research competence, and between KM strategy, KMP and individual research competence.Research limitations/implicationsThe current study uses a cross-sectional research design, future studies may include the longitudinal design to measure the effect of KM elements on individual research competence. The current study includes the data from the Uttarakhand region only, and it is difficult to generalize the results specifically to other states.Practical implicationsThe study emphasizes the importance of KM system development, a supportive KMI and a balanced KM strategy in HEIs.Originality/value Investigating collective knowledge’s impact on individual research competence, this study unveils mediation in KMP. Future research can broaden horizons by using the model.

Preface

The NEWRAD Conferences bring together participants from National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) and key user communities in advanced radiometry. The 15th International Conference on New Developments and Applications in Optical Radiometry (NEWRAD 2023) was held at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in Teddington, UK, from 11th to 15th September 2023. The confernce was organised by NPL’s Optical Radiometric Metrology (ORM) group, who also handled abstract submissions and website administration. The NEWRAD 2023 conference saw 143 registered participants, with a total of 129 papers presented. Among these, 41 were oral presentations, complemented by 7 invited talks. Additionally, 88 posters were showcased during breaks and dedicated sessions, sparking lively discussions and idea exchange. The NEWRAD 2023 conference proceedings comprise contributions from the conference presentations. The submitted papers underwent peer review following the procedures of the Journal of Physics: Conference Series. I wish to thank the diligent reviewers and the dedicated editorial staff at the Journal of Physics: Conference Series for their meticulous work in facilitating the publication of these proceedings. I also wish to thank Nicole George, Dan Moore, Roger Hughes, Paris Aitken-Smith, and the entire organizing teams at NPL for hosting an exceptional conference. A Showcase Presentation Honoring the Editorial Board of Clinics in Dermatology

For over forty years, the Editorial Board of Clinics in Dermatology has been working behind the scenes to help our Editor-in Chief, Dr. Lawrence Parish, bring to readers the best contributions in dermatology. Herein, we tell the story of the beginnings of Clinics in Dermatology and provide a list of the inaugural board members of which we highlight four: Drs. Jean Civatte, John Thorne Crissey, Francisco Kerdal-Vegas, and Joseph A. Witkowski. In addition we showcase our present 44 Editorial Board members including our Managing Editor Dr. Hirak Behari Routh,our Senior Deputy Editors Dr. Larry E. Millikan, and Dr. Marcia Ramos-e-Silva, and our esteemed Chief Editor Dr. Lawrence Charles Parish and Chief Editor Designate, Dr. Vinod E. Nambudiri. We are proud that all our Editorial Board members come with stellaracademic achievements in dermatology and from all over the world. We are an active Editorial Board, who work together, issue after issue, to provide the best in peer review contributions and theme issues. Academic impact of French Hip & Knee Surgery Society (SFHG): A bibliometric analysis

IntroductionThe French Hip & Knee Surgery Society (SFHG) brings together French-speaking hip and knee expert surgeons. There has been an exponential growth of orthopaedic surgical activity over the last decade and hip and knee surgery clinical research has had a similar growth. Despite this, the SFHG's contribution to the orthopaedic literature remains poorly known. To answer this question, we conducted a bibliometric study using data from the national SIGAPS database between 2013 and 2022 to determine: (1) the number of publications produced by SFHG members, (2) the proportion of articles produced by SFHG members in relation to French orthopaedic production, (3) impact markers for articles produced by SFHG member surgeons, (4) collaboration networks between SFHG member surgeons. HypothesisThe number of articles produced by SFHG member surgeons will represent a significant proportion of French scientific output in orthopaedics. Material and methodThe analysis was carried out by cross-referencing the SFHG membership list with the French database of the “Système d'interrogation, de gestion, d'analyse des publications scientifiques” (SIGAPS) and the InCites platform. Among the 189 SFHG members, we identified a list of 183 SIGAPS identifiers in the national database, corresponding to 127 distinct individuals with publications over the period 2013–2022. Several indicators were studied: number of publications; SIGAPS score for the different WoS categories; number and percentage of publications in the top1% and top10%. ResultsOf SFHG's 189 members, 127 have been identified by the SIGAPS database as “publishers”. Over the last decade, 2306 articles have been published by SFHG members. The number of publications has risen steadily, from 203 publications in 2013 to 261 publications in 2022. All SIGAPS categories were represented. Most articles were published in rank D (n = 719; 31.2%) C (n = 552; 23.9%) and B (n = 549; 23.8%) journals. Authors were in first (n = 624) or last position (n = 730) in 58.7% of publications. Orthopaedics (1,639; 71.1%), Surgery (1,124; 48.7%) and Sports surgery (335; 14.5%) were the most frequently observed topics. Orthopaedics & Traumatology: Surgery & Research is the most popular journal for SFHG members' articles, with 655/2306 articles published over the last decade, representing a 32.2% market share. Of the 2160 publications indexed on the Web of Science, 1807 (83.7%) had a French corresponding author. 31 articles (1.4%) were in the Top 1% of most-cited articles worldwide, and 310 were in the Top 10% of most-cited articles worldwide (14.5%). DiscussionSFHG is a major player in orthopaedic research in France. In 2022, it accounted for 19% of the annual volume of French scientific publications in the field of orthopaedics and traumatology. Social Media Use by American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons Members.

Social media offers physicians marketing opportunities previously unavailable. We sought to evaluate social media use and its correlation with public rankings among Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons members. A list of members and demographics was collected. Social media sites were reviewed for each surgeon, and a score was calculated based on active use. The US News and World Report (NWR) was used to determine rating and number of reviews. The Spearman correlation coefficient and independent samples t-test were used to measure correlation and compare means between the groups, respectively. A total of 2436 members were analyzed. The average social media score was 4.14. The average US NWR score was 4.25. A strong correlation was observed between social media and US NWR scores (r = 0.74, P < 0.01) but not with the number of reviews (r = 0.40, P = 0.17). A strong association with US NWR rating (r = 0.74, P = 0.04) and a weak correlation with the total number of reviews (r = 0.61, P = 0.06) were found. Social media use is correlated with US NWR scores. Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons members may be underutilizing social media for the promotion of their practices. Future studies are needed to evaluate whether it affects patient volume and outcomes.

As the economic environment of the global market is rapidly changing, uncertainty is increasing, and technological innovation, as well as financial and human resources, are becoming important factors. In particular, small and medium-sized export manufacturing companies are building global supply chains to improve their competitive advantage, and big data analytics capabilities to collect and analyze manufacturing and import/export information have been raised as a way to solve these risks. Therefore, this study analyzed the influence of big data analytics capabilities on supply chain performance through logistics flexibility and supply chain resilience in the supply chain formation of small and medium-sized export manufacturing firms. The survey was distributed to small and medium-sized export manufacturing companies from January 3, 2024, to March 31, 2024, through face-to-face, email, mail, and fax, focusing on the list of member companies provided by the Korea International Trade Association, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Association, and the SME Technology Information Promotion Agency. More than 2,000 copies were distributed and 215 copies (21.5%) were collected, and 203 copies of the questionnaire were constructed after removing 12 non-response questionnaires. Based on the collected questionnaires, the analysis was conducted using SPSS Ver. 28.0 and the extension program Process Macro Ver. 4.2. The results of the empirical analysis of this study are as follows. First, big data analytics capabilities have a positive impact on supply chain performance. Second. big data analytics capabilities have a positive effect on supply chain performance through the mediation of logistics flexibility. Third, big data analytics capabilities have a positive effect on supply chain performance through the mediation of supply chain resilience. Fourth, big data analytics capabilities have a positive effect on supply chain performance through the dual media.

Dynamical traceback age of the Octans young stellar association

Context. Octans is one of the most distant (d ∼ 150 pc) young stellar associations of the solar neighbourhood, and it has not yet been sufficiently explored. Its age is still poorly constrained in the literature and requires further investigation. Aims. We take advantage of the state-of-the-art astrometry delivered by the third data release of the Gaia space mission combined with radial velocity measurements obtained from high-resolution spectroscopy to compute the 3D positions and 3D spatial velocities of the stars and derive the dynamical traceback age of the association. Methods. We created a clean sample of cluster members by removing potential outliers from our initial list of candidate members. We then performed an extensive traceback analysis using different subsamples of stars, different metrics to define the size of the association, and different models for the Galactic potential to integrate the stellar orbits in the past. Results. We derive a dynamical age of $ 34^{+2}_{-2} $ Myr that is independent from stellar models and represents the most precise age estimate currently available for the Octans association. After correcting the radial velocity of the stars for the effect of gravitational redshift, we obtain a dynamical age of $ 33^{+3}_{-1} $ Myr, which is in very good agreement with our first solution. This shows that the effect of gravitational redshift is small for such a distant young stellar association. Our result is also consistent with the less accurate age estimates obtained in previous studies from lithium depletion (30–40 Myr) and isochrones (20–30 Myr). By integrating the stellar orbits in time, we show that the members of Octans and Octans-Near had different locations in the past, which indicates that the two associations are unrelated despite the close proximity in the sky. Conclusions. This is the first reliable and precise dynamical age result for the Octans young stellar association. Our results confirm that it is possible to derive precise dynamical ages via the traceback method for ∼30 Myr old stellar clusters at about ∼150 pc with the same precision level that has been achieved in other studies for young stellar groups within 50 pc of the Sun. This represents one more step towards constructing a self-consistent age scale based on the 3D space motion of the stars in the young stellar clusters of the solar neighbourhood.

Sharps injuries among healthcare workers in Liberia and Ghana: a cross-sectional survey.

There are little data on sharps injuries among healthcare workers in West Africa despite the region's high rate of hepatitis B and human immunodeficiency virus. The purpose of this study is to investigate healthcare workers' history of sharps injuries in Liberia and Ghana. An electronic cross-sectional survey was conducted among healthcare workers in Liberia and Ghana from February to June 2022. A link to the survey was texted to participants through professional association membership lists, including nursing, midwifery, and physician assistant organizations in both Liberia and Ghana and a physician organization in Ghana only. Five hundred and nine participants reported an average of 1.8 injuries per year in Liberia and 1.1 in Ghana (P ≤ .01); 15.1% of healthcare workers reported three or more injuries in the past year. Liberia had a higher proportion of frequently injured workers (P = .01). Frequently injured workers were evenly distributed across worker types. Workers in this region are vulnerable to sharps injuries. A frequently injured subset of workers likely has distinctive risk factors and would benefit from further investigation and intervention.

Analyses of academician cohorts generate biased pandemic excess death estimates

ObjectiveDeath data from cohorts of academicians have been used to estimate pandemic excess deaths. We aimed to evaluate the validity of this approach. Study Design and SettingData were analyzed from living and deceased member lists from Mainland China, UK and Greece academies; and Nobel laureates (and US subset thereof). Samples of early elected academicians were probed for unrecorded deaths; datasets overtly missing deaths were excluded from further analyses. Actuarial risks were compared against the general population in the same country in respective age strata. Relative incidence risk increases in death in active pandemic periods were compared to population-wide pandemic excess death estimates for the same country. ResultsRoyal Society and Academy of Athens datasets overtly missed deaths. Prepandemic death rates were 4- to 12-fold lower in the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) vs respective age strata of the Mainland China population. A +158% relative increase in death risk was seen in CAE data during the first 12-month of wide viral spread. Both increases (+34% in British Academy) and decreases (−27% in US Nobel laureates) in death rates occurred in pandemic (2020-22) vs prepandemic (2017-19) years; point estimates were far from known excess deaths in the respective countries (+6% and +14%, respectively). Published excess death estimates for urban-dwelling Mainland China selectively analyzed CAE that had double the pandemic death rates than another Chinese academy (Chinese Academy of Sciences). ConclusionMissingness, lack of representativeness, large uncertainty, and selective analysis reporting make data from academy rosters unreliable for estimating general population excess deaths.

WHAT DO BOFAS MEMBERS PERCEIVE TO BE THE BARRIERS AND FACILITATORS OF DAY-CASE SURGERY FOR MAJOR FOOT AND ANKLE PROCEDURES? A SCOPING SURVEY OF SURGEONS

IntroductionRecent advances in minimally invasive surgery and improved post-operative pain management make it possible to perform major foot/ankle operations as day-case. This could have significant impact on length of stay, saving resources and is in keeping with government policy. However, there are theoretical concerns about complications and low patient satisfaction due to pain.MethodsThe survey was developed following review of the literature and was approved for distribution by the BOFAS (British Orthopaedic Foot &amp; Ankle Society) scientific committee. An online survey (19 questions) was sent to UK foot and ankle surgeons via the BOFAS membership list. Major foot/ ankle procedures were defined as surgery that is usually performed as an inpatient in majority of centres and day-case as same day discharge, with day surgery as the intended pathway.ResultsA total of 132 surgeons responded, 80% from Acute NHS Trusts. The majority (78%) thought that more procedures could be performed as day-case at their centre. Currently 45% of respondents perform less than 100 day-case surgeries per year for these procedures. Despite post-operative pain and patient satisfaction being theoretical concerns for day-case surgery in this population; these outcomes were only measured by 34% and 10% of respondents respectively. The top perceived barriers to performing more major foot and ankle procedures as day-case were: Lack of physiotherapy input pre/post-operatively (23%), Lack of out of hours support (21%).ConclusionsThere is consensus among surgeons to do more major foot/ ankle procedures as day-case. Despite theoretical concerns about post-operative pain and satisfaction this was only measured by a third of those surveyed. Out of hours support and physiotherapy input pre/ post-op were perceived as the main barriers. There is a need to scope the provision of physiotherapy pre/post-operatively and out of hours support at sites where this is a perceived barrier.

Surgeon Recommendations for Physical Activity in Patients With Pediatric Hip Conditions.

While physical activity (PA) is important during youth, it is unclear if children and adolescents with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD), or slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) are expected or encouraged to return to PA once they have healed. This study examines the orthopaedic surgeons' role in advising pediatric hip patients on the PA they should engage in, assessing their practice, opinions, and consensus when making recommendations. Orthopaedic surgeons were invited from member lists of 4 hip study groups. The survey included demographics, opinions regarding PA, and 10 case scenarios that queried respondents on the duration and intensity of PA as well as the restrictions on activity type that they would recommend for DDH, LCPD, or SCFE patients. Consensus was evaluated on a scale ranging from 0 to 1, with a value of 0 indicating no agreement among respondents and a value of 1 indicating complete agreement. A total of 51 orthopaedic surgeons responded. While 94% agreed that it is important for school-aged hip patients to return to PA after they have healed, 53% believed that PA may compromise the hip and contribute to the development of osteoarthritis. Average standardized consensus was 0.92 for suggesting the patient engage in some amount of PA, 0.44 for suggesting the recommended daily minimum of 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and 0.33 for suggesting restrictions on activity type. The most frequently selected restrictions included avoiding impact activities (93%, 235/254) and contact activities (58%, 147/254), followed by weight-bearing activities (24%, 62/254). Respondents were not aware of existing PA guidelines, although 57% expressed interest in following guidelines and 39% were uncertain. While there is consensus among orthopaedic surgeons that children with chronic hip conditions should engage in PA, there is considerable variation when recommending the recommended daily MVPA minimum and placing restrictions on activity type. This study suggests interest among orthopaedic surgeons in developing PA guidelines that optimize outcomes for pediatric hip patients. Level II-Survey study.

Yakut Department of the Imperial Orthodox Church Palestinian Society in the History of Yakutia

The relevance of the research topic lies in the analysis of the historical experience of the activities of the Yakut department of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society (IOPS), which contributed to identifying the characteristics of communications between the authorities and the Russian Orthodox Church, the clergy and believers, as well as identifying its educational and translation work. For the first time, the purpose of the research is to study the characteristics and role of the IOPS department in the history of Yakutia. The article uses materials from the periodical “Yakut Diocesan Gazette”: orders of the leadership of the IOPS, reports, lists of members, texts of bishops’ speeches, information on meetings, etc., as well as published letters of Bishop Dionysius. The article uses the methodology of intellectual history, civilizational approach, methods of cultural transfer and statistics. A fivefold increase in the number of the Yakut department of the IOPS by 1900 and the active involvement of the indigenous population in its composition amounting to 36 percent of the community were revealed. It has been established that despite the dispersed type of settlement, the absolute lack of roads and the widespread poverty of the Yakuts, the proportional amounts of donations on their part exceeded similar indicators in the center of Russia. The origin of the Yakut pilgrimage to Palestine and Greece is considered, which had a beneficial effect on the development of the intellectual and creative abilities of the pilgrims themselves. The influence of the IOPS on the genesis of imperial identity among indigenous peoples was determined, which for a long period allowed the Yakuts to resist the propaganda of exiles. We draw a conclusion on the role of the IOPS in the formation of the monarchical, conservative and anti-Zem movement of the Yakuts led by M. S. Shelomov by 1905, as a serious alternative to the liberal movement of the intelligentsia led by V. V. Nikiforov

The only certainty is that conditions always change. Change is necessary for life to exist and to be capable of correctly perceiving changes is essential for adapting to new conditions. In an era of rapid environmental change, resilience has become a critical aspect of a sustainable built environment (Architecture and urban design). Resilience is the key of adaptability to maintain continuity. Sustainability itself must not last forever, but one that can easily adapt to future uncertainty.Architecture and urban design are claimed to play a significant role in the deterioration of environmental quality regarding its resilience and sustainability. High intervention in natural habitats for infrastructure propose, poor energy conservation design, lack of accessibility for a wide range of users, and minimum anticipation of immediate change are the small pieces of many architectural and urban design practices that worsen the environmental quality.Many attempts have been to reduce this global phenomenon by incorporating government top-down policies and practitioner bottom-up strategies. Since 2015, the United Nations, specifically through SDGs 11 and 13, dedicated itself to promoting a more sustainable and resilient future for the environment. Practitioners and academics also contribute to initiating and implementing environment-oriented approaches, both in practice and research. Nevertheless, the engagement and collaboration among practitioners, stakeholders, academics, and the community still need to enhance in providing more comprehensive and impactful benefits. These steps are important because the built environments are the products of human work and become the systems that organize human life itself, thus its design should be the solution when preparing for the uncertainty of what comes in the future.International Conference on Architecture Research and Design (AR+DC) is an annual event organized by the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember. The Gaia-ESO Survey: Calibrating the lithium–age relation with open clusters and associations

Context. The Li abundance observed in pre-main sequence and main sequence late-type stars is strongly age-dependent, but also shows a complex pattern depending on several parameters, such as rotation, chromospheric activity, and metallicity. The best way to calibrate these effects, and with the aim of studying Li as an age indicator for FGK stars, is to calibrate coeval groups of stars, such as open clusters (OCs) and associations. Aims. We present a considerable target sample of 42 OCs and associations – with an age range from 1 Myr to 5 Gyr – observed within the Gaia-ESO survey (GES), and using the latest data provided by GES iDR6 and the most recent release of Gaia that was then available, EDR3. As part of this study, we update and improve the membership analysis for all 20 OCs presented in our previous article. Methods. We perform detailed membership analyses for all target clusters to identify likely candidates, using all available parameters provided by GES, complemented with detailed bibliographical searches, and based on numerous criteria: from radial velocity distributions, to the astrometry (proper motions and parallaxes) and photometry provided by Gaia, to gravity indicators (log g and the γ index), [Fe/H] metallicity, and Li content in diagrams of (Li equivalent widths) EW(Li) versus Teff. Results. We obtain updated lists of cluster members for the whole target sample, as well as a selection of Li-rich giant contaminants obtained as an additional result of the membership process. Each selection of cluster candidates was thoroughly contrasted with numerous existing membership studies using data from Gaia to ensure the most robust results. Conclusions. These final cluster selections will be used in the third and last paper of this series, which reports the results of a comparative study characterising the observable Li dispersion in each cluster and analysing its dependence on several parameters, allowing us to calibrate a Li–age relation and obtain a series of empirical Li envelopes for key ages in our sample.

Monoceros R2 (Mon R2) is one of the closest large active star-forming regions. This extremely young and partially embedded region provides an excellent laboratory for studying star formation and the early evolution of young stellar objects (YSOs). In this paper, we conduct an optical study of the greater Mon R2 region. Beginning with 1690 previously identified candidate YSOs, we used 496 sources with good proper motions and parallaxes from Gaia Data Release (DR) 3 to determine the astrometric properties for likely members of Mon R2. We then used both astrometric and photometric (isochronal and variability) criteria to determine that 308 of these stars are highly probable members. Using the same criteria, we considered a broad area search around Mon R2 in Gaia DR3 and separated candidate members from field stars. In total, we selected 651 likely new cluster members that had been missed in the previous X-ray and infrared excess selection techniques used in the past to establish cluster membership. Revised astrometric properties of the cluster were found using the combined sample of ∼959 highly probable member stars. For the literature plus the new candidate member list, optical light curves were compiled from the Zwicky Transient Facility. For 470 identified variable sources, we attempted classification based on the flux asymmetry (M) and quasiperiodicity (Q) metrics. We find that Mon R2 is dominated by quasiperiodic symmetric variables, with aperiodic sources also a significant population. A few tens of large-amplitude variables are identified that may be of interest for further study.

Predicting academic productivity among American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons fellowship faculty from publications acquired before and during surgical training

Orthopedic residency and fellowship applicants with a strong research record are highly valued for their potential in continuing academic excellence. Despite this, the association between research productivity during training and future academic productivity as an attending orthopedic surgeon is not well-established. We assess the effects of research output during different periods of surgical training as well as residency location on long-term academic productivity as an attending shoulder and elbow surgeon. A search of the 2022-2023 American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Fellowship Directory was conducted to identify a list of orthopedic shoulder and elbow fellowship faculty members. Each surgeon's residency, fellowship and current institution of practice were determined and stratified by geographic location. Total publication counts acquired before residency, during residency, during fellowship, and after fellowship were collected for each faculty member. Attending publication rates and H-indices were calculated. A multivariate linear regression model was created, and significance was set at a P value <.05. A total of 149 shoulder and elbow fellowship faculty members representing 34 fellowship programs were identified. The average number of total publications per surgeon was 88.8±102. The average attending publication rate was 5.29±6.89 publications per year. The average H-index for included surgeons was 27.8±24.4. The number of publications acquired before residency (β=0.293; P<.001), during residency (β=0.110; P=.025) and during fellowship (β=0.593; P<.001) were significantly associated with an increased attending publication rate, but no association was observed with the H-index [before residency (β=-0.221; P=.574), during residency (β=0.045; P=.866), during fellowship (β=0.198; P=.678)]. There were no significant differences in total publication count (P=.397), attending publication rate (P=.237), or H-index (P=.364) based on location of residency training. Research output before and during surgical training is predictive of continued academic productivity as a shoulder and elbow surgeon. In particular, greater productivity during surgical fellowship was most predictive of academic output as an attending. While long-term academic productivity does not seem to be influenced by the geographic location of residency training, attending surgeons practicing in the Midwest had significantly greater total publication counts and H-indices but similar annual publication rates.
