Evaluation of bubble column dehumidifier using magnesium chloride desiccant

With growing emphasis on indoor air quality and energy conservation, the development of sustainable and efficient dehumidification systems has become increasingly crucial across various industries. Liquid desiccant dehumidification system (LDDS) offers a more efficient alternative to conventional methods by utilizing low-grade waste heat. Most direct-contact liquid dehumidification systems use expensive desiccants such as LiCl and LiBr. Our research focuses on exploring MgCl2, prevalent in saltwater bitterns, as a cheaper, less toxic alternative. The core principle of this system involves passing air through a column filled with the MgCl2 aqueous solution, leveraging the hygroscopic properties of MgCl2 to remove moisture from the air stream effectively. Various parameters such as hole size, air flow rate and desiccant concentration are investigated. We further developed a numerical model for the dehumidification process considering the rise time of the bubbles in the desiccant solution and mass transfer in the bubble. After dehumidification, the diluted desiccant solution can be revived using low-grade heat. Use of seawater bitterns, with major component as MgCl2, shows potential for building an environmentally friendly and cost-effective dehumidification system.

Boosting mold aerosol reduction and dehumidification performance in liquid desiccant systems using airborne ultrasound: An experimental study

Indoor mold exposure in hot-humid regions poses considerable risks to public health and food security. Ensuring safe, durable, and energy-efficient air disinfection is crucial for the air-conditioning field. While liquid desiccant air-conditioning (LDAC) systems eliminate condensation-related mold proliferation, their capability to combat airborne mold spores is limited due to the spores' robust resistance. This paper explores a novel airborne ultrasound-assisted liquid desiccant air-conditioning (US-LDAC) system. Experiments were conducted using culture-based methods to compare the system's disinfection capacities against Aspergillus niger spores, a desiccant-resistant species, under ventilation, liquid desiccation dehumidification, and airborne ultrasound-assisted liquid desiccant dehumidification modes. Moreover, the viability and morphological changes of mold spores exposed to airborne ultrasound, with and without liquid desiccants, were analyzed to verify the disinfection effectiveness and extrapolate the improving mechanisms. The results show that irradiating low-intensity airborne ultrasound (∼127 W, harmless mechanical waves) into the dehumidifier significantly increased the disinfection efficiency by 50 % and the dehumidification rate by over 90 % when airflow passed through the dehumidifier (∼0.4 s). The enhanced disinfection is attributed to ultrasonic cavitation, which facilitates the rupture of the desiccant-captured spores through microstreaming-induced shear forces. Notably, the improvements were more pronounced in humid air and with dilute desiccant solutions, suggesting that efficiency can be maintained with lowered desiccant concentrations. The US-LDAC system was particularly adept at removing mold aerosols (2.1–3.3 μm) which are easily inhaled. These findings propose a promising avenue for retrofitting existing LDAC systems to effectively reduce airborne molds and enhance dehumidification, thereby protecting indoor air quality.

A hybrid technology for enhancing VOC transfer in liquid desiccant dehumidifiers: Combining surfactant and internal cooling

Indoor air pollution control has increasingly focused on addressing the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In this regard, liquid dehumidification is a potential method for VOC removal. However, most of the recent studies focus on the utilization of conventional liquid desiccants and dehumidifiers without demonstrating their potential in VOC removal. To realize this potential and improve removal efficiency, a proper enhancement strategy is needed. In this paper, a hybrid technology named “surfactant + internal cooling” is proposed to enhance the VOC transfer mechanism. A theoretical model is proposed for predicting VOC transfer employing the hybrid technology presented in this study. The proposed technology is compared against other two conventional technologies in terms of removal performance, parameter distribution, and enhancement mechanism. Additionally, the impacts of some of the key parameters on the VOC removal characteristics when employing the hybrid technology are identified, and their respective distributions are characterized and investigated. The results showed that after the implementation of surfactant technology and internal cooling technology, the improvement rates compared to traditional adiabatic dehumidifiers are 22 % and 42 %, respectively. However, with the hybrid technology combining the surfactant and internal cooling, a maximum improvement rate of 63 % is reported. This enhancement can be attributed to the collaborative reduction of the Henry’s law constant by 62 % at the dual-scale level of micro-solution and macro-structure. Overall, it is demonstrated in this paper that the use of the hybrid technology can simultaneously improve the micro and macro driving forces driving the VOC transfer, enhancing the VOC removal performance. The findings of this study provide new insights to improve the performance of liquid desiccant dehumidifiers in VOC removal applications.

A refined dynamic liquid dehumidification model for the packed dehumidifier considering time-varying thermal mass of the desiccant

Liquid desiccant dehumidification technology is a promising, energy-efficient dehumidification approach. It can flexibly adapt to variations in renewable energy supply and users' demands, making it an inherently dynamic process. However, optimizing this process from a dynamic perspective is often neglected. This is mainly due to the challenges in establishing a dynamic dehumidification model, where the desiccant's thermal mass and heat and mass transfer coefficients should be time-dependent. In this paper, a refined dynamic dehumidification framework using the finite difference method is developed, where governing equations for the mass and species conservations are rebuilt taking the thermal mass and desiccant concentration as time-dependent variables. Auxiliary equations determining evolutions of the desiccant's thermal mass and heat and mass transfer coefficients are derived based on the continuity equation and analogy method, respectively. Subsequently, the experiments are carried out and serve as a benchmark to check the simulations. It suggests the simulated results using the refined model align well with the experimental data and demonstrate around 50 % better predictive accuracy compared to the existing method, indicating the feasibility of the refined model. The refined model also contributes to rapid adaptation of the dehumidification process to meet specific needs. In a specific case, this could result in energy savings of 60 % for the regeneration of the desiccant solution. This study provides a reference for quantifying evolutions of the liquid desiccant's thermal mass based on an understanding of the physical process. It lays a solid foundation for modeling the dynamic dehumidification process at the design stage and assists in operating an energy-saving dehumidification system.

Developing an integrated simulator and optimizer model for liquid desiccant dehumidification system “LDDSim”

This study introduces “Liquid Desiccant Dehumidification Simulator” (LDDSim), a novel software tool aimed at simplifying the construction of adiabatic liquid desiccant systems, with a particular focus on innovative series two-stage regenerator configurations. LDDSim enables parametric studies and optimizations, enhancing system design and selection. Moreover, LDDSim facilitates thorough system analyses through informative graphical outputs and employs multi-objective optimization tools to boost efficiency. This paper outlines the software’s main inputs, outputs, subroutines, inference engine, and complexity analysis and verification using a real case study utilizing multiple-effect regeneration (MER). Results highlight the advantages of employing a series two-stage regenerator, such as lower power consumption and more flexibility in space compared to single-stage setups. Furthermore, system optimization efforts led to a significant reduction in power consumption while maximizing dehumidifier efficiency and moisture removal rate, yielding promising results with a 36.2 % decrease in power consumption, alongside a dehumidifier efficiency of 94.02 % and a moisture removal rate of 9.84 g/s. LDDSim is a valuable tool for engineers and researchers in liquid desiccant dehumidification systems for design, simulation and optimization.

Experimental investigation and performance analysis of a spray-type ionic liquid desiccant dehumidifier

Ionic liquid desiccants (ILDs) have vapor pressures similar to lithium chloride and no corrosion and crystallization problems, so they are considered a promising alternative to halide salt desiccant solutions. However, the cost of ILDs is more expensive than conventional halide salts, which limits their practical application. Thus, this study developed a spray-type dehumidifier using an ionic liquid desiccant to increase dehumidification performance and reduce the required amount of ILDs. The presented dehumidifier was tested at various operating conditions. Also, a theoretical model was established to analyze heat and mass transfer coefficients of the dehumidifier. Results indicate that the increase in the flow rate ratio of solution to air benefits absorption performance, and the mass flux of solution is suggested to exceed 170 mL s−1 to avoid the occurrence of air bypass. Moreover, compared with the packed bed type, the spray type can reduce the required solution flow rate by 35 % and save power consumption by 19 % under the same moisture removal rates. The dehumidification effectiveness of the presented dehumidifier was up to 0.64 and comparable to the conventional packed bed dehumidifier using lithium chloride solutions.

Review on dehumidification technology in low and extremely low humidity industrial environments

Many industrial environments have low-humidity requirements. However, most research focuses on dehumidification systems in civil buildings, while research on industrial low humidity environments is extremely limited. This paper aims to summarize the research of dehumidification systems in low-humidity industrial environments, and provide some suggestions for the selection and improvement of dehumidification systems. Firstly, the environmental control requirements of industrial plants are reviewed and categorized into low humidity and extremely low humidity based on a relative humidity of 45 %. Then, the performance and applicability of condensation dehumidification systems, desiccant wheel (rotary dehumidifier) dehumidification systems and liquid desiccant dehumidification systems in typical industrial environments are summarized. Several preliminary system selection and configuration methods are presented. It is shown that the traditional condensation system is only suitable for low humidity plants. The desiccant wheel-based system is more capable of deep dehumidification, with a humidity ratio of less than 4 g/kg of supply air, while the liquid desiccant-based system can achieve high air volume operation of 10000 m3/h. Furthermore, their ranking under different scenarios is still outstanding issues. Evaluation indicators that weigh factors such as initial investment, operating costs, and control effectiveness need to be urgently proposed. Long term on-site testing is strongly recommended.

Investigation of conjugate heat and mass transfer in a sleeve-type hollow fiber membrane for liquid desiccant dehumidification

In adiabatic conditions, the dehumidification capacity of hollow fibre membranes decreases as solution temperature rises. To address this limitation, this study proposed a novel approach based on sleeve-type hollow fibre membranes. The study focused on three distinct fluid streams and the sleeve-type hollow fibre membrane tube. A three-dimensional model of the dehumidifier was created, and the dehumidifier's heat transfer, mass transfer, and fluid flow characteristics were thoroughly analyzed and experimentally validated. The results showed that the average values of the Sherwood number and Nusselt number on the air side are significantly influenced by the Reynolds number. On the solution side of the sleeve-type hollow membrane, the average Nusselt number and Sherwood number are approximately 4.0 and 4.6, respectively. According to the research, 76 % of the resistance is accounted for by the mass transfer resistance on the membrane side. The study's conclusions provide insightful information for improving the design of sleeve-type hollow fibre membrane dehumidifiers.

Heat flow topology-driven thermo-mass decoupling strategy: Cross-scale regularization modeling and optimization analysis

The liquid desiccant dehumidification (LDD) is both eco-friendly and highly effective in humidity control, widely investigated across diverse angles. This study expands the application of the newly devised heat current method to examine the liquid desiccant dehumidification process. It introduces a new regularized temperature, which includes using a heat flow topology driven thermo-mass decoupling strategy, and constructing the heat current model by defining both the thermal resistance and moisture resistance. It significantly extends the application of the heat current method, clarifying the thermo-mass coupling energy transfer mechanism. The findings indicate that key factors influencing system performance indicators include total thermal conductivity (αA), solution mass flow rate (ms), air-solution mass flow rate ratio (RA/S,D), and heat source temperature (tH). Furthermore, under the influence of distinct thermal conductivities, the optimal output values for performance indicators, including moisture removal rate, exergy efficiency and entransy efficiency, are determined as 8.4 g/s, 71.2%, and 12.3%, respectively. The results of synergistic influence analysis reveal that, for the performance indicator entransy efficiency, msand RA/S,D display a significant degree of synergistic influence, resulting in a strong positive effect and benefiting 68.53% of the total area. Multi-objective optimization indicates a trade-off relationship among the system performance evaluation indicators moisture removal rate, exergy efficiency and entransy efficiency, with optimal solution values of 3.25 g/s, 65.92%, and 12.01%, respectively.

A review of internal cooling strategies in liquid desiccant dehumidification and cooling systems

Air conditioning systems have become an integral part of society, and their utilization is increasing day by day. Most air conditioning systems use the vapor compression refrigeration (VCR) principle, which is a 190-year-old technology and has undergone significant changes to improve its performance and efficiency. However, the major drawback of VCR is its high energy consumption and use of highly polluting refrigerants. In this 21st century, energy conservation and environmental protection are the need of the hour. To mitigate the challenges, the search for alternative cooling systems that are eco-friendly and have less energy consumption is gaining wide attention. Liquid desiccant systems are gaining popularity due to less energy consumption and being eco-friendly. Therefore, this study attempts to review the recent developments in liquid desiccant technology by focusing on internal cooling strategies. As the internal cooling improves the overall performance of the liquid desiccant by controlling the liquid temperatures. Therefore, this review highlights the various methods, configurations and mathematical simulations in internal cooling, which are less explored in the available literature.

Optimizing the amount of solution in packed liquid desiccant systems for sustained dehumidification

Liquid desiccant dehumidification technology, driven by renewable energy, presents an energy-efficient solution to dehumidification. However, a large solution amount is always configured to extend the dehumidification process and address the unavailability of renewable energy. This is due to a lack of design guidance regarding the optimal desiccant solution amount. This study aims to address this gap by offering guidelines, with a particular focus on the dehumidification duration. Initially, a benchmark for the solution amount is defined for convenient quantification in further study. Then, a theoretical analysis of the dehumidification degradation process is conducted. Results reveal that dehumidification duration is primarily constrained by the temperature rise of the desiccant solution, rather than the solution amount. Consequently, a natural cooling unit, instead of mechanical cooling, is introduced to remove the temperature rise. Following this guideline, multiplying the benchmark for the solution amount can significantly extend the dehumidification duration from minutes to hours, while increasing it by tens of times can extend further to days. Furthermore, the solution amount can be reduced by over 90 % with the design guideline compared to the traditional method. This study paves a way to significantly reduce the solution amount and relevant costs for liquid desiccant dehumidification systems.

Investigation of a Wheel Liquid Desiccant Cooling System Performance via ANSYS CFX

A liquid desiccant cooling system is an alternative air-conditioning system with significant energy-saving potential. This system is commonly used in the industrial sector, such as in dehumidifiers. The key component of the liquid desiccant cooling system is its dehumidification performance. Therefore, a study on a liquid desiccant dehumidifier has been conducted to predict its performance using computational fluid dynamics analysis. In these simulations, the effects of the temperature of the liquid desiccant and the velocity of air flow on the absorption process between the liquid desiccant and air were studied. The same applies to the velocity profile, which helps determine the airflow pattern within the dehumidifier. The model was constructed using ANSYS FLUENT and Autodesk Inventor. The model is the rotary desiccant wheel dehumidifier which was used to dehumidified the air.. ANSYS CFX was used for simulating the velocity profile to achieve the airflow pattern in the dehumidifier. The volume of fluid was selected as the multiphase method for the second simulation process. The temperature and mass fraction of water were monitored within the air during the counterflow simulation between the liquid desiccant and the air. The liquid desiccant chosen for this study was LiCl. The simulations were conducted at specific air velocities, and the behavior within the dehumidifier was observed. The analysis results revealed that the air entering the rotary desiccant wheel dehumidifier experienced a drop in velocity after passing through the desiccant wheel in the middle. Additionally, turbulence occurred after the air passed through the wheel and the dehumidifier’s wall. Based on these findings, the design of an optimal dehumidifier and the selection of an appropriate air velocity for cooling can be carried out.

Performance enhancement analysis of a liquid desiccant dehumidifier with internal cooling for indoor benzene removal

Indoor volatile organic compounds (VOCs) pollution is becoming increasingly serious, posing a huge threat to human health. The removal of VOCs has always been a challenge in air purification processes. In this regard, conventional VOC removal methods are often not ideal. Liquid desiccant (LD) dehumidification is a new removal method proposed recently and becoming increasingly used in many applications. Previous studies dealing with LD mainly focused on adiabatic dehumidifiers, but the results are not very promising. The main reason for this is the significant temperature rise of the LD solution, which seriously affects the mass transfer of the VOC. To enhance mass transfer performance, it is important to suppress temperature rise. In this study, internal cooling (IC) technology is introduced to enhance benzene mass transfer. A mathematical model is established for modeling and assessing the mass transfer process. The benzene transfer characteristics are studied and compared, considering dehumidifiers with and without IC. The effects of the cooling water, air, LD solution, and transfer parameters on the benzene mass transfer performance are evaluated and identified. Additionally, the distribution differences of the key parameters along the dehumidifier are revealed. The results indicated that benzene transfer performance can be significantly enhanced by adopting IC, with a performance improvement of 28.42%. This improvement is attributed to the decrease in the LD solution temperature caused by IC and the corresponding Henry’s constant. The cooling water parameters, airflow rate, LD solution status, and NTUbenzene are the key factors affecting the removal performance. Overall, employing IC can effectively improve the transfer driving force for benzene, resulting in better benzene transfer performance. This study demonstrates the feasibility and promising potential of using IC technology to enhance benzene transfer in LD dehumidifiers.

Application of biomass-based wood shaving packing in a liquid desiccant dehumidification system – a source of sustainable energy

ABSTRACT The present work focuses on the construction of a counter flow dehumidification test rig where calcium chloride liquid is used as the desiccant and is made to spray on the novel organic packing made of wood shaving with different densities and porosities. The mass flow rate of the air is varied and the performance parameters such as moisture removal rate (MRR), dehumidification effectiveness, coefficient of performance (COP), sensible heat factor (SHR) and mass transfer coefficient have been investigated. Results demonstrated an increase in the relative humidity, mass transfer coefficient and drop in the COP, MRR and dehumidification efficiency with the increase in the flow airflow rate. On increasing the CaCl2 concentration, dehumidification performance parameters such as MRR, COP and mass transfer coefficient are found to be increased. Out of the three different densities tested, 500 kg/m3 shows best performance with MRR, ΔRH and dehumidification effectiveness being 9.7%, 18.7% and 4.9% lower than the Celdek pad when measured at 5 m/s of air velocity for 30% desiccant concentration. Optimisation of the input parameters has been done and the results revealed that air velocity should be maintained within the range of 4–5 m/s to minimise energy consumption and optimum performance.

Solar driven liquid desiccant dehumidification system: Measurements and annual system simulations

Liquid desiccant air conditioning (LDAC) systems are used for dehumidification of air to low dew point temperatures. In the presented study a TRNSYS model of a LDAC unit is developed and validated with laboratory measurements. This model is coupled with a solar thermal system that provides heating water for the regeneration process. With this model dynamic annual system simulations can be carried out to simulate the dehumidification of a building. The solar fraction is evaluated for various infiltration rates of the building and solar collector areas with an internally cooled as well as an adiabatic absorption process.The simulation results reveal that high solar fractions of 70% to 81% can be achieved when dimensioning the solar thermal system to cover the regeneration heat demand on a good summer day. This is due to the good correlation of solar irradiance and dehumidification load. Without internal cooling of the absorption process (adiabatic conditions), the solar fraction is reduced by about 10percent points for the same size and operating conditions.

Thermoresponsive liquid desiccants for dehumidification cycles

We describe a liquid desiccant dehumidification cycle that regenerates via liquid–liquid phase separation instead of the typical liquid–vapor phase separation. Liquid-liquid phase separation is enabled by the use of thermoresponsive liquid desiccants that exhibit a “U-shaped” immiscibility curve in their phase diagram with water. Crossing this immiscibility curve causes a single-phase liquid to transform into a two-phase liquid mixture, which then facilitates the liquid-state removal of the absorbed humidity. In order to systematically explore this cycle’s dehumidification coefficient of performance (COPdeh), we employ the Flory-Huggins theory of mixing to systematically vary the immiscibility curve. The Flory-Huggins theory uses two key parameters, the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) and the enthalpic interaction parameter (χH) to define the position and shape of the immiscibility curve, respectively. We show that LCST temperatures close to the cycle’s heat rejection temperature improve COPdeh by reducing the necessary sensible heat during regeneration. We also show that enthalpic interaction parameters with larger negative magnitudes lead to flatter immiscibility curves that improve COPdeh. This improves COPdeh by better directing regeneration heat toward liquid–liquid demixing as opposed to increasing temperature. Our modeling indicates that COPdeh values up to ∼4 are possible using this cycle whereas traditional non-thermoresponsive liquid desiccant cycles would achieve COPdeh values of <1. This large increase in COPdeh is due to the fact that the demixing enthalpy associated with liquid–liquid phase separations is much smaller than the enthalpy of vaporization associated with liquid–vapor phase separations.

Study on the heat transfer characteristics of CO2 and liquid desiccant CaCl2 aqueous solution in the gas cooler and evaporator

The heat exchangers are essential components in the CO2 heat pump-driven liquid desiccant dehumidification system since the heat transfer performance of heat exchangers directly affects the energy efficiency of the system. However, the heat transfer characteristics of CO2 and liquid desiccant in the heat exchanger have yet to be fully revealed, resulting in a lack of appropriate strategies to improve the heat transfer performance. To address this issue, numerical gas cooler and evaporator models are developed and verified. The effects of parameters such as the weight concentration of the CaCl2 aqueous solution, the CO2 inlet pressure, mass flow rates, and the length of the heat exchanger on the heat transfer performance are investigated respectively under various operating conditions. Results show that the heat exchange load of the gas cooler can be significantly impacted by various inlet parameters of both fluids. In particular, the increase in the weight concentration from 36 to 54 wt.% deteriorates the heat exchange load by over 15 %. Nevertheless, the heat exchange load of the evaporator is hardly influenced by the weight concentration. This is attributed to a great gap in the two fluids’ heat capacity rates, causing the evaporator to be in the maximum heat transfer state. The sign of the maximum heat transfer state of the heat exchanger is whether the thermal effectiveness is close to 1, which is related to the heat transfer area. Therefore, modifying the heat exchanger length could avoid the thermal effectiveness approaching 1. Results indicate that the appropriate length of the evaporator is 3–4 m under the designed operating conditions.

Analytical model for assessing mass transfer of VOC in liquid desiccant dehumidifier: A broad-range response to Henry's law constant

Removing indoor volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is crucial for human health. Liquid dehumidification is considered as a promising way for VOC removal. The methods for predicting its performance are limited to numerical simulations or experiments, which are time-consuming, expensive, effort-intensive, and unintuitive. Although analytical method is advantageous for resolving these problems, existing analytical models focus primarily on single-VOC benzene, neglecting the effect of Henry's law constant (HLC) and leading to inaccurate predictions for other VOCs. In this study, considering the effect of HLC, a new analytical model with a broad-range response to HLC is proposed. Moreover, a correction method is proposed to enhance the application range and precision of analytical model. Thus, the definition domain of the proposed model is segmented into various zones, considering accuracy and key parameters. The validity of the proposed model is demonstrated under two conditions: HLCs are on the orders of 10–4 and 10–5. Results show that the proposed analytical solutions show good agreement with published data with a deviation within ±20%. Thus, the proposed model exhibits a broad-range response to HLC, resolving the limitation of existing analytical solution. This study provides an analytical method for assessing VOC removal using liquid dehumidifier.

Atmospheric water harvesting by osmotic distillation and direct contact membrane distillation using hydrophobic hollow fiber membranes

The use of a liquid desiccant air dehumidifier is an energy-efficient technology that can improve both indoor air temperature and humidity. However, the risk of concentrated liquid desiccant leakage into the air conditioning system during dehumidification can corrode the system, negatively impact indoor air quality, and potentially harm residents. To address this issue, this study investigates the effectiveness of osmotic distillation (OD) and direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) for dehumidification and regeneration, respectively. The study analyzes the impact of inlet operating parameters, including liquid desiccant concentration, temperature, and flow rate, and air flow rate on the dehumidification performance and stability of the OD process. Calcium chloride was utilized as the liquid desiccant in this study. The results indicated that the dehumidification performance of the OD process improved with a higher desiccant concentration and lower desiccant temperature. However, the desiccant flow rate did not have a significant impact on dehumidification performance. Furthermore, the dehumidification performance decreased with a higher inlet air flow rate, but the moisture removal rate increased. The OD process demonstrated stable operation during the dehumidification process. DCMD was effective for desiccant regeneration, and no scaling occurred due to the deposition of calcium chloride crystals. However, the permeation flux of DCMD decreased as the feed concentration increased due to a decline in the feed vapour pressure and an increase in concentration polarization effect. In conclusion, the experimental results indicated that OD can effectively dehumidify humid air, while DCMD is a viable option for desiccant regeneration.

Experimental and simulation study on an air conditioning system cascade driven by waste heat using multicomponent solution

The cascade utilization of waste heat for air conditioning system is still considerably lacking in the literature, especially for waste heat below 80.0 °C. In this paper, the experimental and simulation studies are carried out on an air conditioning system that integrates the absorption refrigeration subsystem (ARS) with the liquid desiccant dehumidification subsystem (LDDS). The waste heat at 80 °C is first used to drive the ARS to produce chilled water for air cooling, and then drive the LDDS for air dehumidification to realize heat cascade utilization. Firstly, the experimental study is conducted to compare CaBr2–LiCl–H2O with LiBr–H2O in the ARS and CaBr2–CaCl2–H2O with LiCl–H2O in the LDDS. The results show that the multicomponent solutions perform comparably to the single-component solutions. Then, a mathematical model is established to simulate the entire system using the appropriate multicomponent solution for each subsystem. It is found that the COP of the system reaches 0.77 at a driving temperature of 80.0 °C, with the supply air temperature of 23.0 °C and the humidity ratio of 10.5 g/kg. The waste heat can be recovered down to 61.0 °C, achieving a heat recovery depth of 19.0 °C. This system is expected to have significant potential in the applications due to its efficient heat utilization capability and low-cost multicomponent solutions.
