An important production stage in the preparation of monolithic steel teeming ladle linings is drying of them. The importance of this process becomes obvious if it is taken into consideration that the drying time exceeds the time for actual preparation of the lining by 40-50 times and is one of the factors determining its quality and consequently the length of service of the ladle. The purpose of this work is, on the basis of a critical review of data on existing methods of drying, to show the necessity of a systematic approach to this question, including an analysis of the heat and mass exchange, aerodynamic, and thermomechanicalprocesses, optimization of the relationships of the basic drying parameters from the economic point of view, and the development of technical solutions including methods, burners, and automation.
