EXPLANATORY READING IN THE LIGHT OF APPRECIATION, IN THE ALMIGHTY’S SAYING {O PATIENCE IS MOST FITTING. AND ALLAH IS THE ONE SOUGHT FOR HELP AGAINST THAT WHICH YOU DESCRIBE} A SEMANTIC GRAMMATICAL STUDY

The research aims to clarify the effect of estimation in clarifying the interpretation of the Qur’anic text, as it has been observed that estimation determines the interpreter’s point of view in choosing the appropriate interpretation for this estimation. It has been noticed that some interpreters may go beyond what is compatible between estimation and interpretation, which prompted the research to clarify and guide these areas. Therefore, the research had its importance in referring to appreciation and its impact on the interpretive reading of the Qur’anic text. So in choosing AlMighty's saying “so patience is most fitting. And Allah is the one sought for help against that which you describe” (Yusuf: 18), was a clear example to explain what we referred to the tension between interpretation and appreciation, in both its grammatical and meaningful types. When choosing an estimate, the interpreter had to take into account the attachment of the appropriate meaning to this estimate, which generates cognitive agreement between the interpretive reading and the linguistic reading, to result in saying, through what we have referred to , the importance of regarding the estimate to be in its place. Because meaning represents the core of syntactic and semantic agreement and is the critical point that reveals the correctness of the semantic and syntactic structure according to the context. This is by describing the Qur’anic text as a context that must be read conveniently to appropriate it.

The Role of Occipitotemporal Network for Speed-Reading: An fMRI Study

The activity of occipitotemporal regions involved in linguistic reading processes, such as the ventral occipitotemporal cortex (vOT), is believed to exhibit strong interactions during higher-order language processing, specifically in the connectivity between the occipital gyrus and the temporal gyrus. In this study, we utilized functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) with psychophysiological interaction (PPI) and dynamic causal modeling (DCM) to investigate the functional and effective connectivity in the occipitotemporal network during speed reading. We conducted the experiment with native Japanese speakers who underwent and without speed-reading training and subsequently performed established reading tasks at different speeds (slow, medium, and fast) while undergoing 3-Tesla Siemens fMRI. Our activation analyses revealed significant changes in occipital and temporal regions as reading speed increased, indicating functional connectivity within the occipitotemporal network. DCM results further demonstrated more intricate effective connections and high involvement within the occipitotemporal pathway: (1) reading signals originated from the inferior occipital gyrus (iO), distributed to the vOT and the posterior superior temporal sulcus (pSTS), and then gathered in the anterior superior temporal sulcus (aSTS); (2) reading speed loads had modulation effects on the pathways from the aSTS to vOT and from the iO to vOT. These findings highlight the complex connectivity and dynamic interactions within the occipitotemporal network during speed-reading processes.

Morphology and Derivation in Perspective of the Development of the Concept's Conjugation in Linguistics: A New Linguistic Reading

The study addresses the ambiguity between the terms "morphology" and "derivation" in linguistic discourse. It aims to establish a methodological distinction to delineate their boundaries by examining their meanings, tracing the morphological concept's evolution, and redefining these terms. Employing logical and mathematical distinctions, the research investigates linguistic categories and their elements. Through a descriptive analytical approach, it delves into three axes: the development of morphological concepts, the interpretation of morphology and derivation in grammatical heritage, and the application of logical concepts to distinguish the terms. Among the most prominent results are the adoption of a new distinction between the terms morphology and derivation, the restriction of the divisions of morphology to them, and the importance of applying the concept of category in linguistics in formulating a methodological distinction between the two terms and reclassifying the divisions of Arabic morphology. The study recommends conducting in-depth studies on the concept of category in Arabic linguistics and investing it in analyzing other linguistic phenomena, benefiting from it in the educational curricula for teaching the Arabic language, and integrating the concept of category in teaching morphology and derivation. Linguistic Re-reading of the Literary Text. An Alternative Understanding of Local Bilingualism in the Context of Globalization

Abstract In this paper, I present a possible interdisciplinary, predominantly linguistic reading of the literary text, taking as a starting point the work of Andrei Dósa entitled Multă forţă şi un dram de gingăşie [Lots of Power and a Touch of Gentleness], published in 2021 by Polirom Publishing House. This way of re-reading allows us to go beyond the basic narrative structure of the text and focus on the underlying meanings constituted by the language used in the shaping of local colour. In the contextualization of the narrative thread, in the case of this novel, translanguaging strategies appear, which are analysed in relation to the evolution of the main character and the constitution of his own identity in relation to the Other. The specificity of the artistic processing of the spoken language, the way in which the complementary activation of languages becomes a tool for characterization, and the creation of local colour can provide stable reading references even for texts written in other languages. In this case, the activation of lexemes, phraseological units, culturemes, quotations from Hungarian (predominantly) and English in the literary text written in Romanian support the presentation of the steps of the individual’s self-definition in finding the local specificity under the imprint of globalization. The present study explores the significance of the secondary semantics of bilingual situations in the architecture of literary texts in general and, at the same time, provides a possible way of re-reading the text by following the processes of individualization of the literary transfiguration of bi- or multilingual existence in the case of a contemporary novel.

A linguistic reading in the semantic development of the terminology of mosque discourse in Algeria

This presentation aims at diagnosing the semantic that the mosque discourse is filled with as a linguistic corpus which imposes on researchers to consider its terminology and its pragmatic references, since the logic of interaction in this discourse compels us to study the linguistic structure of its terminology, the continuity of the religious discourse made it full of deliberative energies that no other discourse had. We also find ourselves obligated to analyze the structure of the mosque discourse, its constituent formats, its semantics, and its cognitive references. For it carries, in our present era, different loads in light of the cultural development and the religious information flowing from every angle. This deflected the positive perception of the terminology of mosque discourse and the awareness of its various significance. Accordingly, the duty of the researcher today is to focus on the linguistic structure and the terminology of the mosque discourse, as it is above all a discourse of language, rhetoric, narration, argumentation, and interpretation that aims at a specific end with religious, political, social, and mediatic branches simultaneously.

Productive reading is the key component of the productive linguodidactic technology system. One of the important professional competences that college undergraduates are supposed to acquire is a skill to reflect critically on what they read. They have to learn how to analyze and interpret large flows of information from various sources including those from the foreign media. The important skill of interpretating the value and the meaning of the text in terms of ideas and author’s intentions can be built through productive linguistic reading. The effective application of the text structure strategy can be seen as one of the ways to implement a productive reading approach.This article focuses on the ways used to engage students in higher order thinking activities while reading articles and other authentic texts on various topics. Identifying the main ideas and logical relationships between them, providing background information, and generating inferences enhance undergraduates’ skills to form and articulate an informed and well-grounded opinion on different issues.

The Womb and the Representation of Ecological Cohesion: A Linguistic Reading of Nicole Chinelo’s Save the African Womb

This paper examined the place of the womb as a representative of ecological cohesion. Using the selected text, the paper explored the didactic role of literature, essentially from the purview of imparting on the youth and the adolescent; and based on this background, the paper made use of a literary text, Save the African Womb, which is one of the Government recommended texts for students at the junior secondary level of education in Nigeria. The adolescent and youth stage in human development, no doubt, is critical in the social, moral, cultural, intellectual, and psychological education and formation. Again, the paper advanced from the understanding that literature as a special area of writing thrives in the indirect expression of ideas and messages. As much as a literary writer sets to communicate his or her literary messages, such are often allegorically embedded, demanding the creative ability of the reader to decode and sieve the messages from the twined knot in the writer’s language choices. To be able to do this in our paper, we adopted the eclectic approach in the selection of theoretical framework, considering the fact that the paper involves a cross disciplinary adventure. The paper thus adopted principally, the semiotic theory, and then the eco-feminist theory as relevant theories. Part of the findings of the paper is that the writer represented the importance of the womb using different manners of signification, both the literal and the semiotic. The conclusion of the paper is that the womb is central to the woman’s position as unique biological specie. The womb is also critical in the discussion of the overall human nature, and the need for mutual co- existence in the ecology of human existence. Therefore, the text can be read from the viewpoint of fostering a solution to the social tensions which often arise in the society.

The Language of Evaluation in Jose Saramago's Blindness via Appraisal Theory

Appraisal theory is developed out of systemic functional linguistics as a discourse semantic resource that is concerned with how text producers express their attitudes. The current study is an attempt to expand appraisal framework applicability to a fictional text as modern linguistic studies in the field of appraisal theory have typically been applied to the limited scope of political speeches and debates. The present study strives to illuminate appraisal theory as a tool for analysing the novel Blindness by José Saramago by carrying out three hypotheses. First, appraisal theory can be applied to fictional texts to reveal its genre. Second, in Blindness, appraisal theory shows how the novel’s opening displays a high frequency of pessimistic attitudes. Third, Saramago's most prominent attitude in the beginning of Blindness is judgement. To investigate these hypotheses, the study applied Martin and White’s (2005) framework of appraisal theory to an analysis of 30 extracts as the most representative of the apocalyptic genre. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were applied. Consequently, this study has proven that appraisal framework can be applied to fictional texts to determine the stance and the genre of the text. The findings have also demonstrated that Saramago used an explicit judgment rather than affect or appreciation. Examining the apocalyptic genre and Saramago's attitudes through appraisal theory has led to a new linguistic reading of Blindness unfolding the stances towards the perspectives in the texts and the alignments made to the audience.

Denotation of Narrative Features in Television Advertising (A Semiotic Approach to Mr. President's Declaration)

The research summarizes the knowledge of the dimensions and denotations of T.V advertisement; and its constituents for building it through the semiotic approach of an ad sample represented by the announcement of Zain Kuwait Telecom Company which carries the title "Mr. President" using Roland Barth's approach, starting with the designation, implicit, and linguistic reading to reach the narrative features and their denotations. That makes television advertising as a semiotic and pragmatic discourse in view of the still and motion picture with its efficiency and strength to inform and communicate. And what lies in it of aesthetic, artistic elements; informational and effective power in influencing the recipients by focusing on narratives and anecdotes; narrative structure; and TV advertising with an attempt to present an applied model.

Beyond the Sentence” in the Traces of Grammarians, Fundamentalists, and Rhetoric

The linguistics of the text is betting that it is an interdisciplinary science that surrounds the text through the use of the tools of a group of sciences and fields of knowledge that help linguistic reading to clarify the functional and use side of the language. It does not depend on language only, but finds itself in the presence of a type of linguistic analysis that is indispensable for non-linguistic tools and analytical elements to reach the meaning and significance of the text. Texts cannot be understood without thinking about linguistic, mental and social factors.

THE INTERACTION OF LINGUISTIC AND CONCEPTUAL PICTURES OF THE WORLD

The article analyzes the notions of linguistic and conceptual pictures of the world and reveals the peculiarities of their interaction. It was found that in linguistics, the picture of the world is generally understood as an ordered set of knowledge about reality, which is formed in the social, group and individual consciousness. As a result of the analysis of modern linguistic sources it is established that the picture of the world is a complex system of images that reflect reality in the collective and individual consciousness. The picture of the world consists of conceptual and linguistic pictures that are interdependent. The conceptual picture of the world is a field of thought, which is a set of ideas, concepts and knowledge about the world around us and the principles of its organization, and language is a product of verbal realization of these concepts, ideas and knowledge. Linguistic reading of the picture of the world is nationally specific. The national linguistic picture of the world is seen as an ethnically determined understanding and evaluation of the surrounding world in relation to a particular ethnic group, reflected in linguistic forms.

Regional study material as an important component of the english language studying by students of non-language majors

At the present stage of the development of society, English is necessary for intercultural communication, so its study is given much attention during the training of students of non-language majors. At the same time, it is not enough to know only the vocabulary and grammar of the English language, because when communicating it is necessary to understand the culture and features of the country the representatives of which they communicate. The purpose of this publication is to prove the need to introduce material on regional studies in teaching English to students of non-language majors and highlight our own experience in this field. During the research, such methods as analysis of scientific and pedagogical literature, generalization, synthesis and formulation of conclusions were used. The article highlights the approaches to regional studies as a science (discipline related to the methods of teaching foreign languages, which is aimed at studying general patterns of the development of large regions; discipline, which aims to study selected and organized set of economic, historical, socio-political, geographical and other knowledge; discipline, which is related to the content and features of language communication of native speakers, etc.). It is established that in order to effectively teach the material on regional studies it is necessary to carefully select educational material (historical texts, illustrations, audio and video materials), which presents the specifics of a particular English-speaking country. For thorough acquisition of knowledge, it is also advisable to perform exercises for better mastery of educational material (aspect-oriented, analytical and oral exercises aimed at mastering linguistic reading and exercises aimed at developing the ability to plan reading activities, form techniques of linguistic reading and self-control exercises). Our own experience of teaching regional studies to students of non-language specialties (preparation of reports and presentations, writing essays on relevant topics, organization of discussions) is highlighted.

Wholeness and disruption

This essay examines how the poetry of the late Romantic Cyprian Norwid became a particularly appealing case for Polish structuralist analysis. Polish formalists, such as Manfred Kridl, laid the groundwork for a linguistic reading of Norwid. Two detailed analyses by Roman Jakobson (1963 and 1975 respectively) constitute the most radical expression thereof. Curiously, the Polish structuralists, such as Aleksandra Okopień-Sławińska and Michał Głowiński as well as the major German scholar of Polish literature, Rolf Fieguth, only very partially followed Jakobson’s model. As this essay argues, they struggled with the total analytic integration and rationalization of all elements of a given poem that characterizes Jakobson’s grammatical and phonetic approach. What unites the structuralist readings of Norwid is that all, in different ways, address the problem of wholeness as posed both by Norwid’s poems and his aesthetic thought. Under the auspices of reader-response theory, the notion of wholeness became increasingly problematic to the structuralist interpreters but was never abandoned altogether.

AN EVALUATION OF READING KNOWLEDGE AND LINGUISTIC READING SKILLS ACHIEVEMENT OF GRADE1 LEARNERS IN SIX SCHOOLS OF MILENGE DISTRICT OF LUAPULA PROVINCE ZAMBIA

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the Reading knowledge and linguistic Reading skills achievement of Grade 1 learners in three schools that are close to the District Administrative centre and three schools that are far from the District Administrative centre. The study employed a mixed method paradigm of an embedded method and descriptive survey design that used purposive and simple random sampling to select 6 Head teachers, 6 teachers, 6 SICs, 2 Education standards officers and 80 learners. Data was obtained from respondents by means of interviews, questionnaires and classroom observation schedules. Frequency, percentages, tables, graphs and pie-charts were used to analyze the quantitative and qualitative data obtained. Data was then analyzed by use of the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) computer package. The findings revealed significant differences in that learners achievement of Reading knowledge and linguistic Reading skills between the two sets of schools. Findings showed differences in learners attendance of lessons and teachers absence in classrooms, poor state of infrastructure, multiple sessions, poor pedagogical practices, absence of adequate and appropriate teaching and learning materials in reading, limited number of textbooks, lack of improvisation, inadequate internal and external monitoring, irregular CPD meetings, poor teaching methods and techniques, inadequate assessment and poor record keeping.

Montale in e per Elena Salibra

Elena Salibra (1949–2014) is increasingly to be considered a major poet of her time. The present paper situates her alongside Eugenio Montale in order to determine his influence on her poetry. The correspondence between Montale and Salibra is intellectual and poetic, reflecting Salibra’s dual orientation towards the 20th century giant as both an academic and a poet. The paper beings with an outline of recent criticism of Salibra, and proceeds directly to the texts themselves. The totality of Salibra’s oeuvre is brought under consideration, noting that even if her academic concentration was dominantly on Pascoli and Gozzano, Montale nonetheless represents an enormous presence in her work. The paper proceeds by close analysis to consider first the paratesto and then focuses on specific quotations, implicit or explicit, of Montale in Salibra. The close linguistic reading of Salibra and Montale demonstrates, in the argument of this paper, that the younger poet found an excellent master in the elder.

System of Developing Writing Assignments (Izlozhenie) for Grades 5–11

The aim of the study was to justify the choice of such a writing assignment as a written reproduction (Rus: izlozhenie) as a synthesizing and developing form of educational activity in grades 5–11. To this end, the educational potential of reproducing an unfamiliar literary text was revealed, and a methodological system of developing written reproductions was created in correlation with the material being taught during the lessons of Russian language and Russian literature. When creating a system of written reproduction assignments, an analysis of studies reflecting the leading trends in the methodology of Russian language teaching (i.e. the convergence of lessons of the Russian language and Russian literature, meta-subjects modeling and interpreting activities, linguocultural and conceptual analyses), as well as the results of pedagogical practice, was carried out. The presented system with a complex of assignments gradually increasing in complexity develops both the logical and sensory-emotional sphere of students’ thinking, facilitates the formation of a creative linguistic personality and reading skills, as well as takes into account the requirements for graduates during the State final certification, contributing to a more successful result.

The Discourse of Nation Building in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Malaysia Info Web Portal News Articles

This paper explores the choice of language employed by the Malaysian mainstream media to construct the former Barisan Nasional government’s role in nation building in transforming Malaysia from a developing country to a fully developed country by the year 2020 as envisioned by Vision 2020. In particular, this paper focuses on fourteen curated news articles on the GST Malaysia Info web portal set up by the former government to educate the public on the benefits of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to the country and the people by analysing lexical words with experiential values. The data collection, categorisation and analysis entail the use of simple corpus linguistic tools and close reading of the data based on the researchers’ interpretative resources or “member’s resources” (Fairclough, 2001). The analysis of this study utilising a qualitative approach shows that the people are not only persuaded to ‘buy’ the idea of the new GST tax regime but also to buy into the ideology and discourse of nation building from the introduction of a more efficient way of tax collection. It uncovers how the manipulation of an educational campaign on the GST into a political discourse of nation building produces a positive portrayal of the government with an efficient economic development plan. Drawing on Fairclough’s (1989, 2001, 2015) three-dimensional Critical Discourse Analysis framework with a focus on different values of formal linguistic features , this study offers insights into the interplay between language, politics and nation building.
