Green Information Systems—A Bibliometric Analysis of the Literature from 2000 to 2023

This review investigates the evolution of green information systems (ISs) based on an examination of the literature spanning the years 2000 to 2023. Using bibliographic analysis, a method that enables the study of a large volume of sources, this paper establishes connections among pertinent concepts in the green ISs field, outlining the authors’ interests in the analysed period. Based on the identification of key trends, primary directions, interdisciplinary initiatives, and emerging areas, the assessment reveals that the interest in minimizing the negative impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on the environment is a relevant research topic, with significant evolution in the analysed period. On this basis, this study emphasizes the need for the integration of environmental protection in all stages of the IS life cycle and in all industries, a holistic approach we consider essential for the sustainable growth of the ICT-based societal domains.

Implementation of The Open Group Architecture Framework to See the Readiness of Smart Schools in Pekanbaru

Smart Schools are a derivative of smart people in the 6 pillars of Smart City. Smart Schools is also a school concept utilizing information technology used in the teaching and learning process in the classroom and school administration. One of the schools in Pekanbaru City that will implement smart schools is Junior High School 17 Pekanbaru. Currently, the school already has several infrastructures including servers, laboratories, and administrative rooms, but it is necessary to analyze the technology architecture aimed at implementing Smart Schools. The technological architecture would be analyzed using TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) Framework version 9. The TOGAF framework is a framework for enterprise architecture which is able to develop an enterprise architecture in an organization. Enterprise architecture is an explicit explanation and current documentation of the relationship between management, business processes, and information technology. This research describes the current architectural conditions and target architectures to include the rules, standards, and lifecycle of information systems to optimize and maintain the environment of organizations that want to create and maintain by managing the IT portfolios. The results of this study are to produce an IT blueprint that is used as a school guide in implementing technology architecture to support the implementation of Smart Schools in Pekanbaru City.

ERP Retirement: Some Considerations on Existing Literature

Abstract The final phases of the information systems lifecycle are no less important than the initial ones. However, previous research indicated a lack of studies on information systems discontinuance. This paper aims to verify whether this gap still exists by analysing the literature on enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, a type of software widely used in many organisations. To identify the relevant literature, the paper involved searching in Scopus and Web of Science databases. Despite several ERP literature reviews suggesting more studies on the retirement phase and no time limits in the search, very few studies have been identified. To sketch the current state of knowledge on the selected topic, the paper developed a scoping review and, based on the results, comments on possible critical issues. The work supports researchers and practitioners interested in information systems discontinuance, as it provides some considerations to develop future research. In addition, it has practical implications because the advancement of the knowledge frontier will help organizations cope with this kind of change.

АНАЛИЗ ИСПОЛЬЗОВАНИЯ МОДЕЛЕЙ КОММУНИКАЦИИ В ЖИЗНЕННОМ ЦИКЛЕ РАЗРАБОТКИ ИНФОРМАЦИОННЫХ СИСТЕМ

The article analyzes the existing communication models and their applicability to the tasksof organizing effective communication in the process of developing information systems. The useof communication models in combination with various, most commonly used models of the lifecycle of information systems – waterfall, spiral, SCRUM - is considered. The advantages and disadvantagesof such combinations and their causes are analyzed on the example of T. Newcomb'smodel. The main element of communication is to ensure understanding between the two participantsregarding the object that arises in the project at the next step of its implementation.The systematization of knowledge and information is presented, taking into account the subjectsand forms of its presentation. The analysis shows that the models, realizing the ideas embedded inthem, correspond to different life cycle models to varying degrees, but none of the communicationmodels fully solves communication problems in the development of information systems. The performedstudies show that none of the combinations of models allows to effectively organize communicationbetween participants in the development process. It is necessary to radically revisemodels and mechanisms in such a way that subjects can communicate at the stage of preparingactions to create software development artifacts, and not based on the results of their implementation.Approaches involving the development and use of communication tools – LOW/No code platforms,or other CASE-tools that allow the user and the developer to communicate while preservingthe context of the transmitted knowledge are focused on eliminating such problems. The study ofthe features and structure of such tools will be the subject of further research.

Artificial Intelligence: On the Way to Doctor's Trust.

The submission is devoted to reflections on the role of trust to modern IT systems, especially based on the AI technologies. Its purpose is to draw the attention of the medical informatics community to the need to achieve trust at all stages of the life cycle of MDSS and other information systems.

HIET Web-based digital repository for health informatics evaluation tools

PurposeEvaluating health information systems is an integral part of the life cycle and development of information systems as it can improve the quality of health care. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a bilingual Web-based repository of health-related software products evaluation tools.Design/methodology/approachThe present paper is an applied-developmental study that includes the stages of analysis, design, implementation and evaluation procedures. By searching valid databases as well as holding focus group meetings with a group of experts, the necessary elements for designing a Web-based repository were identified, and also unified modelling language diagrams were designed by using a visual paradigm. The coding(programming) was conducted based on the Gantlet Web Systems Development Framework at the next stage. Finally, after implementing and testing the system, the content was added to the repository, and then the repository was evaluated in terms of usability testing.FindingsThe health informatics evaluation tools (HIET) repository provides a functional and selective environment that facilitates the sharing, online storage and retrieval of assessment tools by the scientific community. The HIET repository is easily accessible at www.hiet.ir/ The website is implemented in structured query language (MySQL), personal homepage. Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) and Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP (LEMP) and supports all major browsers.Originality/valueThe HIET repository, as mentioned earlier, serves as an application environment for sharing, storing and online retrieving the assessment tools of health information systems. Therefore, this tool not only facilitates the search, retrieving and study of many evaluation-related papers, which are time-consuming and stressful for researchers and students but can lead to a faster and more scientific evaluation of information systems.

The model of a parallel life cycle of configurable information systems based on a methodological framework

Existing approaches to organizing the life cycle of information systems are associated with problems of mutual understanding between the customer and the developer. In view of the implementation of communication between the participants in the development process through polysemantic or indefinite concepts, the naming of which causes an erroneous opinion about the uniform perception of their meaning, the image of the target system formulated by the customer from such concepts and the image of the created system, consisting of the concepts implemented by the developer of the same name, but different in meaning, concepts can differ significantly. The phased division of the life cycle of information systems exacerbates the situation, since at each stage introduced, new meanings of polysemantic concepts are formed. To get away from this problem, a new life cycle model is proposed, the essence of which is the parallel work of all participants in the life cycle on the same set of concepts formulated by the user or customer. Parallelism is proposed to be ensured through the coordination of the meaning of the concept, and the concept itself to be represented using the abstraction of the mechanism of action as a unity of form and content that describe the action to create it.

КОНЦЕПТУАЛЬНІ ОСНОВИ ГНУЧКОГО УПРАВЛІННЯ ПРОЄКТАМИ РОЗРОБЛЕННЯ ТА ВПРОВАДЖЕННЯ ІНФОРМАЦІЙНИХ СИСТЕМ

The article offers a scientific approach to the analysis of flexible management of IT projects in the development and implementation of information systems. The main models of the life cycle of information systems are given, which determine the sequence of implementation and the way of interaction of such stages as requirements analysis, design and engineering, program code writing, testing, commissioning, maintenance and support. The analysis of advantages of application of flexible management of IT projects is carried out. The fundamental principles of Agile, which determine a flexible development methodology, have been studied. It is substantiated that the highest priority of developers is to meet the needs of the customer through a fast and regular supply of software. The working product should be released as often as possible, with a frequency of a couple of weeks to a couple of months. Throughout the project, developers and business representatives must work together every day. Motivated professionals should work on the project. For the work to be done, the team must be provided with conditions and support. It is shown that personal communication is the most effective and practical method of both conveying information to the team and disseminating it. Constant attention to technical excellence and design quality increases the flexibility of the project. Simplicity is the art of minimizing unnecessary work. This principle is best implemented by Lean-philosophy, which is the basis of Agile methodology tools. Lean philosophy cultivates the following values: eliminating losses by identifying work that is performed but has no value; strengthening learning through the use of constant feedback; making decisions as late as possible, when the most complete information about the project is collected; creating and delivering value as early as possible; creating an effective environment with the involvement of energetic proactive performers; achieving integrity by creating software that is intuitive to users; project control through a system of metrics that measure even the smallest details. It is important that the team regularly tries to find ways to improve efficiency and adjust their work accordingly. It is concluded that the key factors in the effectiveness of Agile projects are the use of spiral models of the life cycle of systems, self-organized and highly motivated development teams, constant interaction with customers and willingness to change.

The model of a parallel life cycle of configurable information systems based on a methodological framework

The paradigm of developing information systems that has developed today is characterized by an insoluble contradiction between the problem of compliance of the developed system with the user›s expectations and the means of solving it. The latter are aimed at making it easier for the developer to make changes to the system or to speed up the prototyping and development process and do not solve the problems of extracting and delivering information about what the user expects from the system. To solve this problem, it is necessary to reconsider the fundamental principles of the organization of the development process. To do this, the article proposes a methodological framework for designing configurable information systems, consisting of the structure of a configurable information system, which allows describing its single model consistent at different levels of detail, as well as the process of creation inextricably linked with it, which is filling and, if necessary, detailing the structure with subsequent filling with content reflecting the specifics of technologies and implementation features.

AGILE МЕТОДОЛОГІЯ ВПРОВАДЖЕННЯ ІНФОРМАЦІЙНИХ СИСТЕМ ERP-КЛАСУ

The article investigates and systematizes the implementation and operation of corporate information systems for planning and resource management ERP-class. ERP-class corporate systems are innovative information systems that provide comprehensive automation of enterprises and organizations. ERP systems for enterprise resource planning have developed rapidly over the past decades and now cover virtually all business processes and routine operations of the organization. Approaches to the definition of ERP-systems are systematized. It is defined that this is a generalized term that characterizes the software that implements the planning and management of all resources of the enterprise in a single database online. ERP systems are built on a modular basis and automate the following business processes: management and financial accounting, financial management, production planning and management, personnel management and development, logistics and supply chain management, quality management, project management and investment. Risk factors for the implementation of ERP systems are analyzed. The structure of the life cycle of corporate information systems is considered in detail. The life cycle of ERP systems consists of several phases that the system goes through during its existence in organizations: initiating a decision on the need to implement the system, requirements analysis, decision making, acquisition, implementation, use and maintenance, and finally the disposal phase. The system of flexible spiral life cycle models is integrated with the Agile methodology, which helps to more effectively plan, make decisions and implement information systems. The Scrum method, which divides the project into sprints and is used by small, highly motivated teams, is analyzed. Kanban is considered as a method of project management, which involves a continuous flow of tasks and their effective implementation. The advantages of using Agile methodology for implementing ERP systems are shown. It is proved that the further development of a flexible methodology for the implementation of ERP systems is associated with the ability to rationally combine and share the methods of Scrum and Kanban within a single project, using their benefits to efficiently and quickly perform tasks.

DevOps and Neural Network Based Full Lifecycle Management Model for Power Information Systems

With the construction and development of smart grid, the traditional power information system operation architecture is facing the pressure brought by the rapid growth of company business and the rapid development of information technology. In the process of information system lifecycle management, there are some problems, such as unclear division of responsibilities, long system construction time, high risk of system upgrade, etc. In order to solve the existing problems, this paper introduces and analyzes the DevOps engineering thought and technology which takes the development and operation and maintenance of information system as a whole, and studies the application model of DevOps in the current power information system management process. In recent years, with the development of machine learning and deep learning, artificial neural network algorithms have made breakthroughs in different fields, and various network mechanisms and training algorithms have emerged. For example, in the field of load forecasting, there are methods based on probability forecasting and so on. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the application of the new algorithm in the power system to improve the accuracy of power load forecasting and improve the reliability of power network operation. By studying the application model based on DevOps in the whole life cycle process of the power information system, it provides a research basis for the development of the power information system operation structure, and promotes the management of the information system to continuously meet the requirements of lean management and meet the needs of the company's business development.

Features of integration of information systems in the field of protection of plant variety rights

Purpose. Coverage of the peculiarities of information interaction between the Competent Authority, the Expert Institution, and the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) in the process of ensuring the protection of plant variety rights. Implementation of a new technological approach called data extraction which adds a new layer for categorization of queries to the data warehouse of qualification examination of plant varieties and information that accompanies this process. Also, disclosing the features of information technology provides access to applicants, owners, owners, and authors of varieties to information about their varieties in the process of qualification examination with a high level of protection against external and internal threats. Methods. The methodology of conceptual modeling of the subject area is applied, which includes the representation of the relational structure of databases, as well as the technology of designing data warehouses on the basis of a single conceptual model. The theory of the construction of information systems, the theory of databases, the theory of object-oriented design, the theory of security of information systems are used. Results. The analysis of existing information systems and technologies in agriculture is carried out. As well as means of information protection. Sources of information on the formation of the database and data repository of the results of qualification examination of plant varieties are considered. Particular attention is paid to the study of information needs in the field of protection of plant variety rights. problems of information dissemination are discussed. The information technology of interaction of the Competent and Expert body in the field of protection of the rights to plant varieties, and also providing of the information to the international organization UPOV is defined. Features of the organization of data warehouses for the preservation of results of DUS and VSU examinations are covered. The idea of combining the concept of storage and data showcase in one implementation is analyzed, which will allow using data storage both for data mining and as a single source of integrated data of all data showcases of the Competent Authority, Expert Body for Plant Variety Rights and the Applicant’s Electronic Cabinet. There is also a review of methods for protecting information from external and internal threats. Conclusions. An information model has been developed that provides electronic interaction between the Competent Authority, the Expert Institution, and UPOV and the display of information through the software application «Service Office - Applicant’s Office». The peculiarities of the data showcase of the Competent Authority are highlighted. The functional content of the information system of the Expert Body is highlighted. The information technology of ensuring the life cycle of information systems and data protection from external and internal threats has been developed

Flow theory in the information systems life cycle: The state of the art and future research agenda

AbstractFlow theory has been widely applied to understand user behaviour in the different phases of the information systems life cycle during last two decades. Nevertheless, its application is complicated due to issues and challenges related to the broad nature of information technology and human behaviour. Specifically, there is a lack of consensus on the conceptualization of flow in the IS context, and much uncertainty still exists about the key topics and the relationship between antecedents, dimensions and consequences of flow experience. However, a systematic review of how the flow phenomenon is conceptualized and operationalized within the IS life cycle has not been addressed yet. Therefore, studies based on the flow framework within the IS life cycle have mostly emerged without a research agenda and theoretical guidance. Aiming to fill this gap, this study systematically reviews flow studies related to three main phases of the life cycle of an IS, namely adoption, continuance and discontinuance. A total of 81 peer‐reviewed articles published from 2000 to 2019 were identified for analysis. The findings present a comprehensive view of literature by analysing characteristics of reviewed studies in terms of research methods, research contexts and popular theoretical lenses used with flow theory. Furthermore, the results show antecedents, dimensions and outcomes of flow that have been relatively well or under‐investigated. Finally, based on these findings, research gaps and directions for future research are provided.

Adoption of Business Intelligence to Support Cost Accounting Based Financial Systems — Case Study of XYZ Company

Abstract XYZ is a company engaged in the port sector. To support the company’s business processes, XYZ uses two applications to carry out operational activities, namely the CARTOS application to manage invoices and the Finance application to record company costs and revenues. To produce a cost accounting report, XYZ is still processing and visualizing it manually with data sources from the two applications mentioned earlier. This resulted in quite a long time processing data into information. So that reporting to management cannot be done in real time. Therefore XYZ needs a system that can help management to analyze and manage data into information in real time. The Business Intelligence (BI) method is one of the solutions for company needs, especially in analyzing and providing access to data to help make better decisions. This study discusses the design and implementation of business intelligence solutions ranging from architecture, data warehouse, ETL processes and visualization in the form of a dashboard in accordance with the needs of XYZ. The method used in developing business intelligence dashboards refers to the executive information system life cycle method which consists of justification, planning, business analysis, design, construction, and dissemination. The results of this research are dashboard visualization using the Power BI tool that displays information and knowledge needed in the monitoring process and becomes material to produce management decisions related to cost accounting reports.

The influence of online professional social media in human resource management: A systematic literature review

Professional social media platforms (PSMs), including LinkedIn, have created better opportunities for students and employees to advance their career aspirations. Though PSMs seem to be an effective human resource management (HRM) tool, in order to leverage PSMs effectively, it is strategically essential to incorporate research inputs from both the employers' and the individuals’ perspectives. Realizing this, academic researchers have been interested in PSMs since the previous decade. However, research on PSMs and their effectiveness continues to be in the embryonic stage. To catalyze scholarly interest and provide a foundation for formulating sound theoretical propositions for the efficient use of PSMs, it is imperative to aggregate and critically evaluate prior findings and provide avenues for future research. Addressing this need, the current study undertakes a systematic literature review to comprehensively understand the influence of PSMs on one particular aspect of HRM—namely, hiring processes. Forty-five studies were selected from existing literature to examine the accumulated knowledge, assess current research boundaries, and derive ways to enrich this area of research further. The study is motivated by the fact that given the short life cycle of social media platforms and information systems, PSMs need to innovate and continuously offer value to their users. The study makes a concrete contribution to PSM literature by generating actionable research avenues for future researchers and providing practical insights for managers and service providers.

Investigating the adoption intention of gamification apps on mobile services

Previous studies exploring adoption in the field of management information systems have focused on the objects of information systems or information technologies. However, since the popularity of smart phones has led to the usage of apps, limited investigations have attempted to understand the usage intention of apps. In this study, a research model is proposed to comprehend how users perceive and adopt a gamification app in the initial adoption phase of the information system life cycle. Since there are various topics within gamification services, we only pinpoint one popular type of service, exercise, as the research subject. The investigation involving 173 usable subjects was conducted to evaluate the model by using structural equation modelling. The result demonstrates that our proposed model explains 56.7% of the variance. The findings have interesting implications with respect to the initial usage of exercise gamification apps, both for researchers and practitioners.

Risk and Security of Information Systems in the Portuguese Financial Sector

This work follows the need of safety standards, update ISO27002:2013, in the major central banks of several European countries. This need has been studied by establishing a focus group that integrated European experts from major central banks. The analysis carried out was supported in the current methodology of information risk management, used by central banks in the safety management of information systems. This methodology is used to analyze and evaluate the adequacy of practices to risk management in the financial activity. The main objective was to present a proposal, sufficiently comprehensive and consistent, to a new risk management process of Information Systems within the European System of Central Banks. And a definition of a practical guide to risk management throughout the different stages of the Information Systems Life Cycle. The proposed model provides a higher degree of protection systems, technologies and information, especially in Central Banks, taking as reference the Portuguese Central Bank.

Research on life cycle of bulk port production environmental management information system

Comprehensive information platform for port environmental management is necessary to be developed, due to the serious dust pollution and low efficiency of primary environmental protection equipment in the bulk port, which should be combined with life cycle of bulk port production and on the basis of the clean and efficient production needs. The aim of this study was to solve the port environmental management information platform framework, model selection and system development. It provides technical support for the establishment of port environmental management information system, realizes the automotive and global control of the port environment, and a breakthrough of the port environmental management practice.

Case Based Reasoning for Green Information Systems Infusion and Assimilation among IT Professionals in University Campuses

Information Technology (IT) usage in university campuses consume enormous amount of power and incur other costs in cooling and related operations. Currently, universities are infusing environmental friendly initiatives in their campus. However, IT professionals in most universities are still not sure how to infuse and assimilate environmental friendly practices. Hence, Green Information Systems (IS) is suggested as the utilization of technologies and systems for a Greener and more sustainable planet. Accordingly, this study carried out a review on existing Green IS practices and further proposes a decision support framework based on Case Based Reasoning (CBR) technique. The proposed framework utilizes CBR to support the decision making of IT professionals in infusing and assimilating Green IS within university campuses. Findings from this study show how the framework utilizes CBR to support IT professionals in assimilating Green IS lifecycle and infusing Green IS determinants. Furthermore, findings from this study show how IT professionals can Green their university campuses. Moreover, this research study would also be of interest to data and knowledge management community as well as environmental scientists and sustainability researchers.

Formalization of software requirements for information systems using fuzzy logic

The paper considers an approach to the design of information systems based on flexible software development methodologies. The possibility of improving the management of the life cycle of information systems by assessing the functional relationship between requirements and business objectives is described. An approach is proposed to establish the relationship between the degree of achievement of business objectives and the fulfillment of requirements for the projected information system. It describes solutions that allow one to formalize the process of formation of functional and non-functional requirements with the help of fuzzy logic apparatus. The form of the objective function is formed on the basis of expert knowledge and is specified via learning from very small data set.
