THE EFFECTIVENESS OF BRUNO MARS SONG IN DOO-WOPS & HOOLIGANS ALBUM ON STUDENTS' PRONUNCIATION MASTERY

The aim of this research is to find out the effect and significant difference of bruno mars song in doo-wops & hooligans album for students' pronunciation mastery at Vocational High School Kartikatama Metro. Song is a media in the form of musical works that are suitable for teaching English, especially pronunciation. This research used quasi experimental design. The subjects of this research are the tenth grade students at Vocational High School Kartikatama Metro. The result of data analysis indicates that value of t obtained (to) is lower than value of t table (-16.482<2.074). Moreover, the second data indicates t obtained (to) is lower than value of t table (-13.657<2021). The conclusion are teaching English pronunciation using bruno mars song in doo-wops & hooligans album is effective to increase students' pronunciation mastery and gives a significant differences. Researchers hope that this research can help future researchers to conduct similar research, especially when using English songs to teach pronunciation. Future researchers must use the latest songs in conducting further research.

Research on the spreading of Jing Xiao Chan Bao

Jing Xiao Chan Bao(, Tested Treasures in Obstetrics) written by Zan Yin is the earliest extant book of obstetrics and gynecology in China. It was dispersed after written and reappeard by the late Qing Dynasty. Although widely quoted in later medical books, its spread process is not clear yet. In this paper, we reviewed the process of the book's written and the catalogue of historical records, and analyze the type and scope of articles quoted from this book by the Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties. It can be speculated that the book was lost in the late Song Dynasty and doctors in Yuan and Ming Dynasties have not seen the handed-down masterpiece.

Jirra: Oromo protest songs as weapons of resistance against domination in Ethiopia

ABSTRACT Beginning from the 1960s, the Oromo struggle for emancipation from authoritarianism in Ethiopia took dimensions of peasant uprisings, liberation movements, and everyday forms of resistance through which discourses and institutions of domination have been resisted and defied. As part of their resistance strategies, the Oromo use art in defying political oppression, economic inequalities, and socio-cultural marginalization. From legendary musicians to amateur singers, Oromo artists have been speaking to power and inspiring the people in the struggle for freedom. Haacaalu Hundessa, a young Oromo artist and resistance singer who has garnered a reputation as an icon within a short period of time – murdered on 29 June 2020 – is one of those whose works revolutionized modern Oromo resistance music. Three of Haacaalu’s latest songs, namely, Maalan Jiraa (What existence is mine), Jirra! (We are still alive), and Jirtuu? (Are you still there?), were released between 2015 and 2017 during a critical juncture in Oromo Protests and thus deserve critical analysis to unpack spatially and temporally grounded state violence against the Oromo. These lyrics reveal a postcolonial or post-imperial land dispossession, on the one hand, and decolonial struggles the Oromo launched against the violent Ethiopian state, on the other hand.

Writings on Patriotic Theme in Chinese Autobiographical Literature of the Song Dynasty China (960-1279

After the Yuan Army invaded the Central Plain at the end of the Song Dynasty, the Song Empire was broken. Faced with the atmosphere and historical background of the national crisis, the Song scholar-official class generally set up a moral standard and value system of "taking the world as their own duty", regarded loyalty to the country and the emperor as the most righteous path, and made a political choice to consciously transform their identity from scholar-officials to military generals who would save the country from being battered. At the same time, patriotic climax and expression of personality became an inseparable unity. Take Wen tianxiang for example, their loyalty to the Song emperor and patriotism was highly unified with their personality, it has been widely praised by future generations. The outstanding scholars’ writings made a patriotic literature climax at the end of the Song Dynasty. It not only reflected the profound influence of neo-confucianism on the personality construction of the scholar-officials and literary intelligentsia in the Song Dynasty, but also accorded with the orthodox literary thought in the Late Song Dynasty. In their patriotic writings, their noble national integrity of serving the country with death, coupled with their superb talent and creative skills, endowed their works with the epic temperament of shining through the ages. Therefore, the Song scholar-officials’ patriotic writing made the Song Dynasty a highlight moment of patriotic writing in the history of Chinese literature.

There has been much controversy over whether the Mandarin Chinese sentential particle le has the same origin as the perfective verb suffix –le. This paper argues that the verb liao, meaning ‘to finish’ is the origin of both le and –le. Taking the position that the essence of the particle le is inchoativity, it traces the path of its grammaticalization in texts through history. The inchoative use of liao is found in texts from the 10th century (late Tang) on, and it had developed functions similar to its modern use as a particle by the 13th century (late Song). As evidenced in Chunggan Nŏgoltae (重刊老乞大) (1975), when both le and –le had been fully developed in the 18th century (Qing), their pronunciation was still [liau], the same as the lexical verb liao (Kim 1998) from which they originated. On the other hand, lai ‘to come’, which Chao (1968) has suggested as the origin of le, has a similar function to modern laizhe, in marking recent past and signaling the discontinuation of the situation at the reference time. The use of lai as a past experience marker still exists in some Northern dialects in Shanxi and Shaanxi, yet in these dialects the cognate of the Mandarin Chinese particle le is clearly related to the cognate of the suffix –le, but not to lai. It is possible that the reason for the disappearance of lai from records dating from about the 18th century (Zhang 1986) was the rise of laizhe in the same period, which Ōta (2003) observed, rather than le replacing lai as suggested by Sun (1996).

Networks and Fame: Literary Social Circles from the Late Song to the Early Yuan

Abstract: This article argues that the late Southern Song was a time of emerging cross-regional “social circles” based on literary interactions. To explicate non-official literati’s vigorous activities and connections outside of local society, the study adopts the concept of “social circle” developed by Charles Kadushin in his study of social networks. After the Mongol conquest, southern literati maintained cross-regional connections that bridged bureaucratic elite and local societies. Participating in literary “social circles” provided literati with new possibilities for achieving fame, exchanging information, making associations, and adapting to political and institutional changes.

The Southern Song dynasty began its era due to the invasion of the Jurchen tribe, and also suffered the misfortune of meeting its end by the Mongols. The literati of the Southern Song, who had the painful experience of being deprived of their territory by a northern foreign people, wrote down their pain in various ways as literary works. Some left a record of their experiences so as not to forget the humiliating history, and others also expressed a strong will to fight and patriotism to recover the lost land through poetry. However, here are the works that depict the land of the lost homeland in a slightly different way from the above, and they are Meng Yuanlao''s 『Dongjingmenghualu』 in the early Southern Song and Zhou Mi''s 『Wulinjiushi』 in the Late Song Dynasty and the Early Yuan Dynasty. They remember the most splendid and beautiful days of the past that they experienced directly or indirectly, and now they are depicting in detail the spaces of attachment that have become foreign countries. Through these two ironic works that sang the joy of prosperity rather than the sadness of ruined country, this study attempts to take a look at what the image of the homeland that the literati of the Southern Song tried to portray was. In addition, this study will analyze the reasons why they left such works at the time from the perspective of ''healing'', and examine together what writing strategy each work has.

Controversy for her use of a song from Cameroon that was popular in Colombia in the 1980s was diffused on time by good political moves. With this latest song and video, Shakira again represents her “blackness”, her “Caribbeaness”, pointing strongly to a performative activity that has been having effect since she crossed the Colombian and Latin American borders in order to start recording under Miami’s pop star producing machine. I trace in this paper, through a few of her music videos, what she has chosen or asked or coached to represent, as she performs her way to global stardom: tamed otherness. An ethics of aesthetics of popular culture is what is asked though this reflection, especially since Shakira is a professed humanitarian who has created the Barefoot Foundation in order to educate marginalized Colombian children

Constructing an Ideal Southern Song in Biji: A Study of Zhou Mi’s Anecdotes of Wulin.

As an important biji 筆記 (jottings) of the late Southern Song and early Yuan periods, Zhou Mi’s 周密 (1232–1298) Wulin jiushi 武林舊事 (Anecdotes of Wulin) is conventionally regarded as historical records of urban lives of ordinary people, written under the direct influence of the famous memoir, Dongjing menghua lu 東京夢華錄 (A Dream of the Eastern Capital). Zhou Mi, a leading literati during the late Song and early Yuan period, is deeply interested in history and is committed to preserve historical records of the fallen dynasty. Compare to his later works, Qidong yeyu 齊東野語and Guixin zashi 癸辛雜識, Anecdotes of Wulin is more than a collection of historic data. It is generally believed that the Anecdotes was written shortly after the downfall of the Song dynasty. Possibly, at the time, Zhou was overwhelmed by the shock and sadness, and was unable to judge or criticize. What he needed most at that time was to pacify his emotion, and so he turned to remembering and writing about the heyday of the Southern Song. This article argues that the primary meaning of the Anecdotes is to strongly express the author’s loyalty and identification with the imperial court of the Southern Song dynasty, especially its virtue values. Unlike Dongjing menghua lu, Zhou has spent over two-third of his book on describing events related to the emperor and the imperial family. Instead of focusing on the common folks, he is more eager to show the lives and virtue values of the imperial court and the elite class. In the Anecdotes, Zhou reconstructs, fragment by fragment, a benevolent and prosperous society of the Southern Song, a memory that the author would like his readers to have and to identify with.

Netta Barzilai as an Israeli Symbolic Goods

"This paper discusses Pierre Bourdieu’s term symbolic goods (1930-2002) through an Israeli case study, Netta Barzilai. An Israeli performer and songwriter, winner of the Eurovision 2018 with the song “TOY” which became the anthem of the Me-Too movement. Netta as a symbolic good was packaged, marketed and distributed to the public, and the Netta phenomenon has spread throughout the world. Based on interviews with Netta, through listening to the songs and watching the clips that came after “TOY”, “Bassa Sababa” (2019), “Nana Banana” (2019) and “Ricki Lake” (2020), I examine how and if Netta continues to maintain her status as a symbolic good, as an example and role model for many, and whether she continues to convey her message - self-love and self-acceptance - through shattering cultural and social stereotypes. It seems that Netta’s next three songs introduced a powerful big size Netta but also a vengeful, vicious, narcissistic and lazy Netta. The fresh message she carried at the beginning was swallowed up in an ocean of shallow commercial images. A trend that led Netta’s fans to lose interest and Netta to reinvent herself in her latest song, “Cuckoo” (2020). Through sincerity, directness and cleanliness of her message, Netta like a bird in a cage seeks to break free from the evil loop in which she was imprisoned and not only love herself but also love others and let others love her. Which “There” is There? George Harrison’s Dialect Shifting in His Late 1960s Songs

ABSTRACT The Beatles exhibited certain Liverpool dialect features, and George Harrison retained many lifelong in song. Examined is the “hair” vowel, which Liverpool speakers previously pronounced like standard “her”; e.g. “there” in “the love there that's sleeping” in “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”. In 1966-1970, Harrison sang both pronunciations. We sought correlations between Harrison's pronunciation and song-internal and external factors. Two pronunciation connections emerged: (1) whether a song was an earlier vs. released version and (2) where the word occurred. Results suggest Harrison shifted from his native pronunciation to the standard for final versions and from within verses to prominent positions.

Increased level of Urinary 8-oxo-Gsn in Patients with Heart Failure

Background: The level of RNA oxidation in patients with heart failure (HF) and its effect have not been well established. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between urinary 8-oxo-7, 8-dihydroguanosine (8-oxo-Gsn), a marker for oxidative stress to RNA and HF. Methods: A total of 191 HF patients from March 2014 to March 2018 and 155 healthy controls were included in this study, and their morning urine was collected. The level of urinary 8-oxo-Gsn was measured by ultra high-performance liquid chromatography mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry and adjusted by urinary creatinine. Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) was defined as left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) <40%. Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) was defined as LVEF ≥50% with diastolic dysfunction. Results: 8-oxo-Gsn in HF patients was significantly increased compared with age- and sexmatched healthy control subjects [4.20 (3.09–5.77) vs. 2.75 (2.59–2.85), p < 0.001]. The level of 8-oxo-Gsn was positively correlated with age (r = 0.257, p = 0.001) and N-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide (r = 0.257, p < 0.001) and negatively correlated with diastolic blood pressure (r = −0.147, p = 0.049), hemoglobin (r = −0.181, p = 0.013), and creatinine clearance rate (r = −0.215, p = 0.004). Patients with HFrEF and HFpEF exhibited both the higher levels of 8-oxo-Gsn than control subjects (all p < 0.001) while there was no difference between HFrEF and HFpEF [4.44 (3.12–7.12) vs. 4.02 (3.10–5.67), p = 0.406]. Conclusions: The level of urinary 8-oxo-Gsn is increased in patients with HF, indicating that HF may be associated with increased oxidative damage to RNA, and urinary 8-oxoGsn be useful in the diagnosis and evaluation of HF. mp3download.link Best YouTube to MP3 converter. Schubert’s Idyllic Periods

This article explores Schubert’s distinctive handling of the period theme-type, focusing on a particular kind of period that appears often in his Lieder: the idyllic period. Schubert’s idyllic periods are characterized by their symmetry, diatonicism, transparent voice-leading structure, simple piano texture, and association with poems about nostalgia and hopefulness. I analyze three representative idyllic periods in Schubert’s late songs: “Am Meer” (looking not only at the song itself, but also at its relation to the other Heine Lieder from Schwanengesang), “So lasst mich scheinen,” and “Am Fenster.” Collectively, these analyses reveal the diverse but related expressive connotations of this theme-type in Schubert’s music. Moreover, they suggest that Schubert’s musical evocations of naïveté and innocence demand as much scrutiny as his most radical experiments with tonality and form.

The Influence of Clara Schumann’s Lieder on Declamation in Robert Schumann’s Late Songs

In his late songs (from 1849-52), Robert Schumann’s vocal rhythm strays much farther than in his earlier songs from the poetic rhythm. His late style of declamation may have been influenced by Clara Schumann’s Lieder of the 1840s. His late songs exhibit the following characteristics, which are also found in her songs: 1) the vocal rhythms are based on the poetic rhythm at least occasionally, so that listeners have a foil against which they can perceive declamatory irregularities; 2) there are numerous deviations from consistent coordination of stresses with strong beats, and of four-bar hypermeasures with poetic units; 3) rests are often employed in an unpredictable manner; and 4) there are text-expressive motivations for declamatory irregularities.

Treading Robert Schumann’s New Path

Robert Schumann’s late songs (1849–52) are in some respects difficult to understand and to perform. Paradoxically, it is their apparent simplicity that poses a challenge for performers; harmonically, texturally, and metrically less adventurous than the songs of 1840, they may on first contact seem rather bland. Those who wish to explore Schumann’s “second practice” of song writing must grapple with the questions: 1) What is interesting and expressive about the late songs? and 2) How can their interesting and expressive elements be communicated to listeners?One striking aspect of the songs is their manner of declaiming the texts; their vocal rhythms depart more drastically from the poetic rhythm than is ever the case in Schumann’s earlier songs. Poetic feet, which would be approximately equivalent in duration in a normal recitation, are set to a wide variety of durations, producing irregular and unpredictable vocal rhythms. Schumann’s new manner of declamation is a significant locus of expression in songs where other potentially expressive features are attenuated. Analysis and recomposition highlight Schumann’s unorthodox but expressive declamation, and help performers to make decisions that enhance the song’s expressive attributes.
