Brain mechanisms involved in the perception of emotional gait: A combined magnetoencephalography and virtual reality study.

Brain processes associated with emotion perception from biological motion have been largely investigated using point-light displays that are devoid of pictorial information and not representative of everyday life. In this study, we investigated the brain signals evoked when perceiving emotions arising from body movements of virtual pedestrians walking in a community environment. Magnetoencephalography was used to record brain activation in 21 healthy young adults discriminating the emotional gaits (neutral, angry, happy) of virtual male/female pedestrians. Event-related responses in the posterior superior temporal sulcus (pSTS), fusiform body area (FBA), extrastriate body area (EBA), amygdala (AMG), and lateral occipital cortex (Occ) were examined. Brain signals were characterized by an early positive peak (P1;∼200ms) and a late positive potential component (LPP) comprising of an early (400-600ms), middle (600-1000ms) and late phase (1000-1500ms). Generalized estimating equations revealed that P1 amplitude was unaffected by emotion and gender of pedestrians. LPP amplitude showed a significant emotion X phase interaction in all regions of interest, revealing i) an emotion-dependent modulation starting in pSTS and Occ, followed by AMG, FBA and EBA, and ii) generally enhanced responses for angry vs. other gait stimuli in the middle LPP phase. LPP also showed a gender X phase interaction in pSTS and Occ, as gender affected the time course of the response to emotional gait. Present findings show that brain activation within areas associated with biological motion, form, and emotion processing is modulated by emotional gait stimuli rendered by virtual simulations representative of everyday life.

The impact of electrode selection for ocular correction on the reward positivity and late positive potential components in adolescents.

Electroencephalography (EEG) data processing to derive event-related potentials (ERPs) follows a standard set of procedures to maximize signal-to-noise ratio. This often includes ocular correction, which corrects for artifacts introduced by eye movements, typically measured by electrooculogram (EOG) using facial electrodes near the eyes. Yet, attaching electrodes to the face may be uncomfortable for some populations, best to avoid in some situations, and contribute to data loss. Eye movements can also be measured using electrodes in a standard 10-20 EEG cap. An examination of the impact of electrode selection on ERPs is needed to inform best practices. The present study examined data quality when using different electrodes to measure eye movements for ocular correction (i.e., facial electrodes, cap electrodes, and no ocular correction) for two well-established and widely studied ERP components (i.e., reward positivity, RewP; and late positive potential, LPP) elicited in adolescents (N = 34). Results revealed comparable split-half reliability and standardized measurement error (SME) between facial and cap electrode approaches, with lower SME for the RewP with facial or cap electrodes compared to no ocular correction. Few significant differences in mean amplitude of ERPs were observed, but the LPP to positive images differed when using facial compared to cap electrodes. Findings provide preliminary evidence of the ability to collect high-quality ERP data without facial electrodes. However, when using cap electrodes for EOG measurement and ocular correction, it is recommended to use consistent procedures across the sample or statistically examine the impact of ocular correction procedures on results.

Late positive potential component and cognitive functioning in occipital area of Mild Cognitive Impairment

AbstractBackgroundMild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is a prodromal stage of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias (Langa & Levine, 2014). It has been suggested that a late event‐related potential (ERP) called the late positive potential (LPP) is related to cognitive functioning including sustained attention and reaction time in people with MCI (Waninger et al., 2018). The LPP in the occipital area was also suggested to be a biomarker of MCI (Liu et al., 2022). However, it remains unclear whether LPP in the occipital area is related to cognitive functioning.MethodWe collected EEG of 50 people with MCI (mean age 72.44±7.96; education: 5.52±1.07) by using a 20‐channel EEG recording system while participants performed the simple vigilance task (SVT). Their reaction time (ms) was taken as a measure of sustained attention. Vienna Reaction Time Task (VRTT) (Schuhfried GmbH, Moedling, Austria) was used to measure processing speed and inhibition while separating motor action (measured as a motor time) and cognitive processing (measured as a reaction time). Mini‐Mental State Examination (MMSE) was used to measure the severity of cognitive impairment (mean score: 26.20±2.44). Correlation analysis was used to analyze the liner relationship between the average LPP amplitude in the occipital areas (Oz, O1, and O2; time window: 400 to 800 ms after stimulus presentation), reaction time on the three versions of the VRTT, and reaction time on the SVT.ResultWe found significant correlations between reaction time on the SVT and motor time on VRTT (S1: p = 0.015; S2: p = 0.075; S3: p = 0.021;), but we found no significant correlations between reaction time on the SVT and VRTT (ps > 0.193), no significant correlations between LPP amplitude in the occipital areas and reaction time on any of the tasks (SVT: p > 0.056, VRTT: ps > 0.288) or between LPP amplitude and motor time on any version of the VRTT (ps > 0.500).ConclusionOur preliminary results indicate that LPP amplitude measured over the occipital area was not significantly associated with sustained attention or inhibition.

The Effect of Accelerated Continuous Theta Burst Stimulation on Weight Loss in Overweight Individuals With Schizophrenia: A Double-Blind, Randomized, Sham-Controlled Clinical Trial.

Obesity is a common comorbidity in individuals with schizophrenia and is associated with poor clinical outcomes. At present, there are limited effective approaches for addressing this issue. We conducted a double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled clinical trial to investigate the efficacy of noninvasive magnetic stimulation techniques in reducing obesity in individuals with schizophrenia. Forty overweight individuals with schizophrenia were recruited and randomly assigned to receive either the active or sham intervention. The active group received 50 accelerated continuous theta burst stimulation (cTBS) sessions over the left primary motor area (M1), while the sham group received sham stimulation. The primary outcomes were the change in body weight and body mass index (BMI), and the secondary outcomes were the psychiatric symptoms, eating behavior scales, metabolic measures, and electrophysiological to food picture stimuli. The study demonstrated a significant decrease in body weight and BMI after the intervention selectively in the active group (mean = -1.33 kg, P = .002), and this improvement remained at the 1-month follow-up (mean = -2.02 kg, P = .008). The score on the Barratt Impulsivity Scale (mean = -1.78, P = 0.036) decreased in the active group and mediated the effect of accelerated cTBS on body weight. In the food picture cue electroencephalograph task, the late positive potential component, which is related to motivated attention and emotional processing, decreased in frontal brain regions and increased in posterior regions after the active intervention. The accelerated cTBS may offer a promising approach for treating obesity in individuals with schizophrenia. Further research with a larger sample size or individualized stimulation protocol should be promising. Clinical trial registered with clinicaltrials.gov (NCT05086133).

Perceptual load-independent modulation of the facilitated processing of emotional eye regions

Although the eye region has been found to convey sufficient information for emotional recognition and interpersonal communication, little is known regarding the extent to which the prioritized processing of emotional eye regions relies on available attentional resources. To address this issue, the present study used a dual-target rapid serial visual presentation task in which the perceptual load levels of the first target (T1), as well as the valence of the second target (T2), were manipulated. In addition to the traditional event-related potential (ERP) analysis method, the mass univariate statistics approach was employed. Behaviorally, both happy and fearful eye regions were recognized more accurately than neutral eye regions, regardless of the T1 perceptual load. ERP findings revealed an enhanced N170 amplitude for fearful eye regions compared to neutral eye regions, confirming the preferential and automatic processing of fearful signals at the early sensory stage. The late positive potential component exhibited enhanced responses to fearful and happy eye regions, suggesting the amplified representation consolidation in working memory. Collectively, these findings indicate that isolated eye regions are processed automatically to a higher degree owing to their perceptual and motivational significance.

The consistency of self-reference and mother reference in social evaluation

In social interactions an individual's perception of others' facial expressions is usually influenced by the evaluation of personality traits, especially negative evaluations. We integrated social-appraisal contexts with self- and motherreferential processing in a Chinese cultural context to examine the effect of context, including different potencies and reference types, on the individual's emotional perceptual processes of others' facial expressions. We found that neutral faces presented in positive/negative self-referential and motherreferential contexts were perceived as more positive/more negative than were neutral faces presented in other-referential contexts. Event-related potential (ERP) data showed that self-referential and mother-referential negative contexts induced more pronounced early posterior negativity and late positive potential components than did other-referential contexts. However, these same contexts did not significantly affect the results of the positive ERP component that occurs approximately 100 ms after stimulus presentation (P1) and the negative deflection in wave amplitude that occurs around 170 ms after the presentation of a face (N170). These results suggest that social-behavioral appraisals related to self and mother can influence the individual's perception of an appraiser's facial emotions even when there is no personality trait appraisal.

Effects of sleep insufficiency on spatial working memory in low-pressure and hypoxic environments.

Background:This study aimed to investigate the effects of sleep insufficiency on spatial working memory in low-pressure and hypoxic environments.Methods:We selected 58 insufficient sleepers and 27 normal sleepers among the college students living in high-altitude areas for a long time to receive a spatial 2-back working memory task, while collecting behavioral and electroencephalograph data. We adopted an independent sample t-test and repeated measures analysis of variance to compare the differences in response time and accuracy, P2 and late positive potential components, and theta band energy values in the spatial working memory task between insufficient and normal sleepers.Results:We found no significant differences in response time and accuracy between the insufficient sleep group and the normal sleep group; however, the P2 peak value and the early theta band energy value were higher in the insufficient sleep group than in the normal sleep group.Conclusions:These results suggest that the spatial working memory ability of individuals with sleep insufficiency was weakened under low-pressure and low-oxygen environment.

Cosmetic makeup enhances facial attractiveness and affective neural responses.

Although it is well established that cosmetic makeup enhances perceived facial attractiveness, few studies have examined whether facial makeup modulates neural responses to face images. This study investigated behavioral and attractiveness-related brain responses to self-applied makeup, focusing on the N170, early posterior negativity, P300, and late positive potential components of event-related brain potentials. A total of 77 Japanese women participated in two experiments (N = 34 and 43 for Experiments 1 and 2, respectively). Experiment 1 assessed the effects of self-applied makeup on attractiveness-related event-related potential amplitudes using facial images during a makeup identification task in which makeup was directly relevant to task demands. Experiment 2 examined the effects of self-applied makeup using images of one's own face and another female's face when performing a gender classification task, where the presence of makeup had no explicit connection to facial gender classification. In both experiments, faces with makeup were rated as more attractive and elicited more negative early posterior negativity and more positive late positive potential components, regardless of the participant's own face or another person's face. These findings suggest that people are spontaneously motivated to pay visual attention to faces with makeup, which supports the idea that makeup adds reward value to the facial appearance of the human. Moreover, neural evidence empirically confirmed that the benefits of makeup are not just limited to how others see your face but also extend to how you see your own face.

ERP responses to sexual cues among young women attracted to men.

Previous event-related potential (ERP) studies reported larger N170, P3, and late positive potential (LPP) amplitudes to sexual than nonsexual stimuli. These ERPs may not be specifically sensitive to processing sexual cues, however, because the sexual stimuli included information beyond sexual cues (e.g., faces, bodies, social interaction) to a greater extent than comparison stimuli. We investigated ERPs to stimuli that focused on sexual and nonsexual body regions, in different states of readiness for activity, to elucidate neural responses involved in processing sexual cues. Forty cisgender, primarily white, undergraduate women who were attracted to men (Mage =18.6, SD=0.9) viewed images that varied by male body part (penis, arm) and activity state (rest, poised for activity). Participants viewed 40 images per category (flaccid penises, erect penises, outstretched arms, bent arms). Electroencephalography (EEG) was recorded using a 128-channel net, time-locked to the onset of each image. Using a whole-head cluster-mass approach, we found that the P3 was sensitive to sexual readiness-P3 amplitudes were larger to erect than flaccid penises, but not to bent than outstretched arms. The N170 and LPP components did not show evidence of similarly specific responses to sexual readiness, revealing potential dissociation of different neural processes commonly elicited in response to more complex sexual stimuli. An additional novel finding was that an anterior N270-400 was sensitive to sexual readiness. Findings clarify the brain's rapid responses to sexual stimuli, setting the stage for future research aimed at better understanding the neurocognitive processes that contribute to the coordination of sexual arousal.

Human body odors of happiness and fear modulate the late positive potential component during neutral face processing: a preliminary ERP study on healthy subjects.

Human body odors (HBOs) are powerful stimuli that can affect emotional, cognitive and behavioral processes. However, the characterization of the physiological response to HBOs is still to be fully investigated. Here, we analyzed the self-assessed emotion perception and the EEG event-related potentials (ERP) on 17 healthy young women during a simultaneous visual-olfactory stimulation. Particularly, we evaluated the effect of happiness and fear HBO on the amplitude of ERP waveforms elicited by neutral face processing. In addition, we evaluated the subjective valence and arousal perception of the presented neutral faces by means of the self-assessment-manikin test. We observed a significant increase in the amplitude of the late positive potential (LPP) for central left sites (i.e., C3) during the administration of HBOs with respect to clean air. On the other hand, we did not observe any significant change in the subjective valence and arousal scores as well as for the early components of the ERP (i.e., P100, N170, Vertex-Positive-Potential). Our preliminary results suggest that fear and happiness HBO can induce a protracted increase in the LPP, and possibly reflect an automatic and sustained engagement with emotionally significant content.

Alpha-2 Adrenoreceptor Antagonist Yohimbine Potentiates Consolidation of Conditioned Fear.

BackgroundHyperconsolidation of aversive associations and poor extinction learning have been hypothesized to be crucial in the acquisition of pathological fear. Previous animal and human research points to the potential role of the catecholaminergic system, particularly noradrenaline and dopamine, in acquiring emotional memories. Here, we investigated in a between-participants design with 3 groups whether the noradrenergic alpha-2 adrenoreceptor antagonist yohimbine and the dopaminergic D2-receptor antagonist sulpiride modulate long-term fear conditioning and extinction in humans.MethodsFifty-five healthy male students were recruited. The final sample consisted of n = 51 participants who were explicitly aware of the contingencies between conditioned stimuli (CS) and unconditioned stimuli after fear acquisition. The participants were then randomly assigned to 1 of the 3 groups and received either yohimbine (10 mg, n = 17), sulpiride (200 mg, n = 16), or placebo (n = 18) between fear acquisition and extinction. Recall of conditioned (non-extinguished CS+ vs CS−) and extinguished fear (extinguished CS+ vs CS−) was assessed 1 day later, and a 64-channel electroencephalogram was recorded.ResultsThe yohimbine group showed increased salivary alpha-amylase activity, confirming a successful manipulation of central noradrenergic release. Elevated fear-conditioned bradycardia and larger differential amplitudes of the N170 and late positive potential components in the event-related brain potential indicated that yohimbine treatment (compared with a placebo and sulpiride) enhanced fear recall during day 2.ConclusionsThese results suggest that yohimbine potentiates cardiac and central electrophysiological signatures of fear memory consolidation. They thereby elucidate the key role of noradrenaline in strengthening the consolidation of conditioned fear associations, which may be a key mechanism in the etiology of fear-related disorders.

The ineffective emotion regulation strategies of heroin use disorder patients: An event-related potential study

BackgroundPeople with substance use disorders (SUDs) usually experience emotion dysregulation, which may be a consequence of or a risk factor for the development and maintenance of substance misuse. Despite growing evidence on emotion dysregulation among people with SUDs, relatively few studies have explored emotion dysregulation in heroin use disorder (HUD) patients. MethodsUsing event-related potentials (ERP), we compared the emotion regulation ability of 33 HUD patients and 30 healthy controls according to their average electroencephalogram amplitudes of the late positive potential (LPP) component in 400–1000 ms and 1000–2000 ms time windows, while viewing neutral and unpleasant emotional pictures, and using emotion regulation strategies (expressive suppression, cognitive reappraisal, and a combination) while viewing unpleasant pictures. We recorded their mood states and how successfully they used emotion regulation strategies in each block using 7-point scales. ResultsRelative to healthy controls, the LPP amplitudes of HUD patients were significantly lower when viewing emotional stimuli (pearlyLPP < 0.05) and using emotion regulation strategies (all p < 0.05). The left hemisphere was more active in healthy controls (pearlyLPP < 0.05, plateLPP < 0.01); there were no differences in scalp position activation among HUD patients. DiscussionCompared to healthy controls, HUD patients’ emotional arousal and emotion regulation ability were impaired, as reflected by the LPP component. Their abnormal scalp activation pattern may imply abnormal brain activity. Future research could explore this with electroencephalogram source analysis techniques, functional magnetic resonance imaging, or other technologies. Intervention effects for emotion dysregulation in HUD treatment are also worth exploring.

The modulation of attentional deployment on regret: an event-related potential study.

Adopting a sequential risk-taking task, this study explored the modulation of attentional deployment on regret. Attentional deployment was manipulated during outcome feedback of the task by highlighting different parts to induce participants to focus on collected gains (GF context) or missed chances (MF context). The control context without attentional deployment manipulation was also set. Behaviorally, compared to the control context, participants felt less regret in the GF context but more regret in the MF context. Event-related potential results showed that the GF context elicited stronger reward positivity and late positive potential (LPP) than the control context. Furthermore, openness (NEO Five-Factor Inventory) negatively predicted the amplitude of LPP in the GF context. Source localization indicated that the superior frontal gyrus showed stronger activation in the GF context than in the control context during the time window of LPP. These results suggested that focusing on collected gains was an effective way to repress regret and that the LPP component played a key role in this process.

Prisoners of Addictive Cues: Biobehavioral Markers of Overweight and Obese Adults with Food Addiction.

Obesity is associated with food and eating addiction (FA), but the biobehavioral markers of this condition are poorly understood. To characterize FA, we recruited 18 healthy controls and overweight/obese adults with (n = 31) and without (n = 17) FA (H-C, FAOB, NFAOB, respectively) to assess alpha brain asymmetry at rest using electroencephalogram; event-related potentials following exposure to high-calorie food (HCF), low-calorie food (LCF), and nonfood (NF) images in a Stroop paradigm; reaction time reflective of the Stroop bias; and symptoms of depression and disordered eating behavior. The FAOB group had the greatest emotional and uncontrollable eating, depressive, and binge-eating symptoms. The FAOB group displayed lower resting left alpha brain asymmetry than that of the NFAOB group. Differently from the other groups, the FAOB group presented attenuated Stroop bias following exposure to HCF relative to NF images, as well as a lower late positive potential component (LPPb; 450–495 ms) in both frontal and occipital regions. In the total cohort, a correlation was found between the Stroop bias and the LPPb amplitude. These results point to biobehavioral hypervigilance in response to addictive food triggers in overweight/obese adults with FA. This resembles other addictive disorders but is absent in overweight/obesity without FA.

The Preponderant Role of Fusiform Face Area for the Facial Expression Confusion Effect: An MEG Study

Although the recognition of facial expressions seems automatic and effortless, discrimination of expressions can still be error prone. Common errors are often due to visual similarities between some expressions (e.g., fear and surprise). However, little is known about the neural mechanisms underlying such a confusion effect. To address this question, we recorded the magnetoencephalography (MEG) while participants judged facial expressions that were either easily confused with or easily distinguished from other expressions. The results showed that the fusiform face area (FFA), rather than the posterior superior temporal sulcus (pSTS), played a preponderant role in discriminating confusable facial expressions. No difference between high confusion and low confusion conditions was observed on the M170 component in either the FFA or the pSTS, whilst a difference between two conditions started to emerge in the late positive potential (LPP), with the low confusion condition eliciting a larger LPP amplitude in the FFA. In addition, the power of delta was stronger in the time window of LPP component. This confusion effect was reflected in the FFA, which might be associated with the perceptual-to-conceptual shift.

Stability and change in emotional processing across development: A 6-year longitudinal investigation using event-related potentials.

ERPs reveal the temporal dynamics of emotional processing and are easily assessed in children. Yet, little longitudinal research has examined ERPs sensitive to emotion across development. We aimed to systematically identify timing and spatial distributions of ERPs sensitive to emotion in a longitudinal sample of youth (N=62) using principal component analysis (PCA) and evaluate stability and change in emotional responses across development. Participants completed an emotional interrupt paradigm in childhood (Mage =9.38, SD=0.42), early adolescence (Mage =13.03, SD=0.24), and midadolescence (Mage =15.16, SD=0.17). ERPs were recorded to unpleasant, pleasant, and neutral images. Participants were instructed to respond to a target while viewing images. Two components sensitive to emotion emerged across development: P300/early late positive potential (LPP) and late LPP. The P300/early LPP component was characterized by an enhanced positivity for unpleasant compared to pleasant and neutral images. The late LPP was enhanced for both unpleasant and pleasant compared to neutral images, and more positive for unpleasant compared to pleasant images. The components showed moderate to strong stability. Overall LPP magnitude decreased from childhood into adolescence. There was a developmental shift in distributions from occipital sites in childhood to centroparietal sites in midadolescence. Results support use of PCA to inform scoring windows and electrode selection. The shift in distribution may reflect developmental focalization in underlying neural circuitry. Future work is needed using multimodal approaches to further understand the relationship between ERPs and changes in neural circuitry across development.

Event‐Related Potential Evidence for Persistence of an Intuitive Misconception About Electricity

ABSTRACTEvent‐related potentials are used to test the hypothesis that an intuitive misconception persists in the mind even after the acquisition of scientific knowledge. We investigated the temporal dynamics of neural mechanisms in solving a scientific problem involving a common misconception. It showed that the increased P2 component was elicited by the stimulus congruent with the misconception. The increased N2 component was elicited by the stimulus incongruent with the misconception. Additionally, the enhanced late positive potential component was evoked by the stimulus involving the conflict between the misconception and scientific knowledge. These results suggest that an intuitive misconception might still survive after the acquisition of scientific knowledge. It could be invoked automatically to evaluate the plausibility of incoming information. Subsequently, scientific knowledge is explicitly retrieved to monitor the conflict and inhibit the misconception. This study might have values in revealing the neural correlates of knowledge representation and scientific reasoning in education.

Neural indices of associative learning in pre-adolescents: An event-related potential study

This study investigated electroencephalography (EEG) correlates of prediction error during probabilistic learning in pre-adolescents. The detection of prediction errors, the discrepancies between experienced and anticipated outcomes, is thought to be a critical mechanism that drives new learning. Thirty-three typically developing pre-adolescents (mean age = 10.62 years) participated in an associative learning task in which they learned the probabilistic relationships between cues and outcome stimuli in the absence of explicit feedback. We investigated whether three outcome-locked event-related potentials (ERPs) could reflect prediction error processing: the P3, the late positive potential (LPP), and the feedback-related negativity (FRN). All ERP components investigated were sensitive to the magnitude of hypothetical prediction errors that were estimated based on each individual’s learning performance. Higher estimated prediction errors generated larger P3 and LPP components, and a more negative FRN. These findings indicate that pre-adolescents are capable of undergoing probabilistic learning in the absence of explicit feedback, much in the same way as adults, and that prediction error processing is physiologically indexed via the FRN, P3 and LPP following outcome stimuli.

Meta-analysis of ERP investigations of pain empathy underlines methodological issues in ERP research.

Empathy has received considerable attention from the field of cognitive and social neuroscience. A significant portion of these studies used the event-related potential (ERP) technique to study the mechanisms of empathy for pain in others in different conditions and clinical populations. These show that specific ERP components measured during the observation of pain in others are modulated by several factors and altered in clinical populations. However, issues present in this literature such as analytical flexibility and lack of type 1 error control raise doubts regarding the validity and reliability of these conclusions. The current study compiled the results and methodological characteristics of 40 studies using ERP to study empathy of pain in others. The results of the meta-analysis suggest that the centro-parietal P3 and late positive potential component are sensitive to the observation of pain in others, while the early N1 and N2 components are not reliably associated with vicarious pain observation. The review of the methodological characteristics shows that the presence of selective reporting, analytical flexibility and lack of type 1 error control compromise the interpretation of these results. The implication of these results for the study of empathy and potential solutions to improve future investigations are discussed.

Event-related potentials modulated by the perception of sexual dimorphism: The influence of attractiveness and sex of faces

Sexual dimorphism has been proposed as one of the facial traits to have evolved through sexual selection and to affect attractiveness perception. Even with numerous studies documenting its effect on attractiveness and mate choice, the neurophysiological correlates of the perception of sexual dimorphism are not yet fully understood. In the present study, event-related potentials (ERPs) were recorded during visualisation of faces that had been previously transformed in shape to appear more masculine or more feminine. The participants’ task consisted of judging the attractiveness of half of the total number of faces, and performing a sex discrimination task on the other half. Both early and late potentials were modulated by the sex of faces, whereas the effect of the sexually dimorphic transform was mainly visible in the P2 (positive deflection around 200 ms after stimulus onset), EPN (early posterior negativity) and LPP (late positive potential) components. There was an effect of sexual dimorphism on P2 and EPN amplitudes when female participants visualised male faces, which may indicate that masculinity is particularly attended to when viewing opposite sex members. Also, ERP results seem to support the idea of sex differences in social categorisation decisions regarding faces, although differences were not evident on behavioural results. In general, these findings contribute to a better understanding of how humans perceive sexually dimorphic characteristics in other individuals’ faces and how they affect attractiveness judgements.
