Difficulties and opportunities of implementing total quality management in academic libraries of Ghana

Background of the study: Academic libraries are collapsing due to the related challenges of implementing TQM practices and integrating them. Purpose: The primary objective of this study is to ascertain the challenges and prospects of implementing total quality management in Ghanaian university libraries. Method: An explanatory mixed method design was employed in the study. Top management, librarians, faculty members, and administrators took part in the discussion. The information and data were gathered using an interview guide and a questionnaire. Out of the 239 participants, 205 persons provided a valid response. This indicated an 85.7% response rate. Out of the twenty-five individuals who were anticipated, twenty were questioned. For the investigation, a straightforward random and purposive sampling strategy was used. Both quantitative and thematic analysis of the data was done. Findings: The investigation demonstrated that there are difficulties in implementing TQM. Adopting total quality management (TQM) can be difficult due to factors such as staff resistance to change, a lack of facilities and resources, and a lack of commitment from upper management. The study also concluded that implementing TQM has several benefits such as boosting the library system's continual improvement and guaranteeing best practices and standard compliance. Conclusion: The study's conclusions may increase information scientists' and librarians' comprehension of how TQM methods are implemented in Ghanaian academic libraries and experiment with the suggested adoption model.

Implementasi Program Rumah Anak Prestasi oleh Dinas Sosial Kota Surabaya

This research is motivated by the fulfillment of rights for children with special needs that need to be equal to other normal children. Inclusive schools and special schools cannot fulfill them due to several factors such as expensive costs, lack of facilities and qualified teaching staff for children with disabilities. The existence of the Rumah Anak Prestasi Program by the Surabaya City Social Service is a space for children with disabilities to develop their abilities. The results showed a positive response through David Corten's program implementation theory. Program and program implementers indicators show that RAP is a program that parents of children with disabilities look forward to. Complete and free facilities, as well as teaching staff who are in accordance with their fields are devoted to serving children with disabilities in the city of Surabaya. The target group indicators show that satisfaction from parents of children with disabilities at RAP Semolowaru is a positive response that can help the RAP program develop. Analisis Hambatan Guru dalam Penerapan Model PBL pada Pembelajaran PAI di SMP Darul Hikmah Pagutan Mataram

The problem based learning (PBL) model is very suitable for use in Islamic religious education (PAI) learning in schools. This PBL model links subject matter to students' daily life situations, however in its application this PBL model does not always work effectively but there are several obstacles experienced by teachers. This article aims to analyze teachers' obstacles in implementing the problem based learning (PBL) learning model in PAI learning at Darul Hikmah Pagutan Mataram Middle School. This research uses qualitative research methods with a descriptive approach. Data collection uses the Miles and Huberman framework by means of data condensation, data presentation, and data verification. The results of this research show that the obstacles for teachers in implementing the PBL model in PAI learning at Darul Hikmah Pagutan Mataram Middle School are hampered by the lack of facilities and infrastructure that support PBL model learning, lack of teacher readiness because they have additional duties as school administrators, limited study time, and Students' thinking abilities are not the same because each student has a different background.

Effectiveness of Public Services at the Regional Education Office of North Sulawesi Province

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of employee salary management services at the North Sulawesi Provincial Education Office. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with data collection techniques through interviews, documentation and observation. This research focuses on the Effectiveness of Public Services at the Regional Education Office of North Sulawesi Province. Data collection techniques include; observation, interviews, and documentation. The research results show that: 1) Suitability and Efficiency of Service Process: Practices in the field are not in accordance with Standard Procedures, causing slow completion and unclear information. 2) Service Quality and Employee Engagement: Employees are less responsive and efficient, with slow responses and unsatisfactory solutions. 3) Facilities and Infrastructure: Lack of facilities, including limited service space and technical problems such as slow computers and unstable networks.

Legal Measures to Support the Process of Asset Recovery in the State-Owned Enterprises Banking Sector Post-Corruption Cases

This study aims to identify obstacles and formulate strategic measures to optimize asset recovery in the State-Owned Enterprises Banking sector post-corruption cases. This research employs a normative legal research method with a comparative approach, where the collected legal materials are analyzed qualitatively to describe the problems and answer the research objectives. The results show that asset recovery faces multidimensional challenges, including weaknesses in the legal framework, limitations in the capacity and integrity of law enforcement officers, lack of facilities and infrastructure, and efforts by the accused to avoid asset recovery. Optimizing asset recovery requires a comprehensive strategy encompassing the enactment of the Bill on Criminal Asset Forfeiture, strengthening the legal and institutional framework, enhancing the capacity and integrity of law enforcement, improving facilities and infrastructure, optimizing the civil route, and strengthening international cooperation. Therefore, it is recommended that the Government, Directors of State-Owned Enterprises Banking, the Asset Recovery Center, and law enforcement agencies undertake various optimization efforts, such as accelerating the enactment of the Bill on Criminal Asset Forfeiture, increasing the budget, strengthening corruption prevention systems, enhancing the competence of law enforcement officers, and strengthening international cooperation. Furthermore, the Public Prosecutor is expected to maximize the use of Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 in indictments, enabling judges to issue optimal rulings for asset recovery in the State-Owned Enterprises Banking sector post-corruption cases.

PRESCRIPTION AUDIT AT A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL – A CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY

Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze prescribing practices at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) through a cross-sectional audit of 600 outpatient prescriptions, adhering to the National Health Mission Prescription Audit Guidelines 2021. Methods: The audit examined prescriptions of patients who visited the Outpatient department (OPD) of Department of General Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pulmonary Medicine, Pediatrics, Dermatology, and Psychiatry. The audit evaluated key aspects such as the completeness of patient information, legibility of prescriptions, documentation of clinical details, and adherence to standard treatment guidelines (STG). Results: The prescription audit at SMCH revealed high compliance with essential criteria such as OPD registration and patient gender documentation. However, gaps were identified in areas such as allergy status documentation (0%), legible handwriting (75.7%), and follow-up advice (16.9%). In addition, adherence to STG was observed in 75% of prescriptions, with a concerning finding that there was a lack of facility’s Antibiotic Policy. Conclusion: The study underscores the importance of complete and accurate prescription documentation to ensure patient safety and effective treatment.

Genomic DNA extraction methods and phylogenetic analysis of Beauveria bassiana from Central Java, Indonesia, and its toxicity against the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda J.E. Smith (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

BackgroundControl techniques using biological control agents such as Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin have the advantage of not showing any negative impacts on environmental health and safety issues. This study used isolates from B. bassiana collection from Laboratory of Pest Monitoring belonging to Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture (LPHP) in Central Java which showed potential in controlling target pest. The problems that still occur are the lack of facilities and infrastructure and the lack of quality testing of collection isolates in LPHP, so that the isolate identification process is still carried out in simple method, and bioassay testing on the fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda J.E. Smith (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) as a target pest, is not commonly conducted. The results of bioassay testing can be used to determine the potential of a biological agent to control target pest.ResultThe two DNA extraction methods showed different results regarding DNA concentration and purity values, but both methods were good and could be used to amplify DNA using PCR. The DNA band was amplified at 500–600 bp using primers ITS 1 and ITS 4. The results of molecular analysis showed that the four isolates of B. bassiana from Central Java were found in the same clade as B. bassiana from South Sumatra, Dhaka, and Oromia, where these isolates showed similar similarities descended from a common ancestor. Genetically, B. bassiana isolates from Central Java show more genetic similarities to B. bassiana isolates from South Sumatra, Indonesia. Quality testing was carried out by calculating the density and germination ability values for LPHP isolates from Sukoharjo (Sukoharjo isolate), Temanggung (Purworejo isolate), and Banyumas (Banyumas and Cilacap isolate), which showed varying results. The bioassay test used three isolates, namely B. bassiana from Sukoharjo, Banyumas, and Cilacap, which were selected based on density values, germination ability, and molecular analysis. The ability to cause death of the three isolates against S. frugiperda showed different results where the isolate from Sukoharjo, Banyumas, and Cilacap caused mortality of 60, 40, and 60%, and the LC50 value of each isolate was 3.3 × 106, 1.3 × 107, and 3.5 × 107 conidia ml−1, respectively.ConclusionMorphological identification by macroscopic, microscopic, and molecular analysis showed that the isolate from the LPHP collection in Central Java, Indonesia, was B. bassiana. Genetically, the four isolates showed similar characteristics to isolates from South Sumatra, Indonesia. B. bassiana isolates from collections from Central Java showed potentials as a biological control agent against S. frugiperda.

Organizational silence and hidden threats to patients' dignity with schizophrenia: A qualitative study.

Maintaining patients' dignity is a key ethical requirement in healthcare and is emphasized in nursing standards. This issue is particularly significant for patients with schizophrenia because they face unique challenges such as physical and psychological difficulties, dependence on others, and social isolation, making them more vulnerable. Organizational factors can either threaten or preserve their dignity. However, there is little knowledge in this domain within the sociocultural context of Iran. This study aimed to explore the role of the healthcare organization in the dignity of patients with schizophrenia, based on the opinions of patients, healthcare personnel, and family caregivers. This qualitative study was conducted with 26 participants (16 patients, 4 family caregivers, 2 nurses, 3 psychologists, and 1 service worker) who were selected using a purposeful sampling method. The data were collected through semi-structured, in-depth face-to-face interviews until data saturation was reached. The data were analyzed via Graneheim and Lundman's method. The study protocol was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Urmia University of Medical Sciences (IR.UMSU.REC.1401.099). Based on data analysis, participants reported the three following challenges as organizational hidden threats to patients' dignity: "Lack of facilities," "premature management," and "ineffective communication." The study findings indicated that the healthcare organization does not support the dignity of patients. Management inefficiency and lack of facilities are evident in psychiatric hospitals, and healthcare centers are not monitored based on standard criteria. Limited interactions between healthcare personnel and patients were identified as the main reasons for the neglect of patients with schizophrenia and the violation of their dignity. The results of this study can help healthcare policymakers in designing and implementing effective programs to preserve the dignity of patients with schizophrenia.

Tantangan Perkembangan Pencak Silat di Kota Tangerang Selatan: Analisis Keterbatasan Fasilitas dan Pendidikan

Pencak silat is a form of traditional martial arts that has high cultural and philosophical values in Indonesia. However, in South Tangerang City, the development of pencak silat faces significant challenges. This study aims to identify and analyze the obstacles faced in the development of pencak silat in this area, focusing on the lack of facilities and infrastructure as well as the lack of lesson time in schools. Through in-depth interviews with five figures from various martial arts institutions, namely Deni Asmara from Tapak Suci, Ahmad Maulana from Perguruan Silat Al Qoyyum, Fitrah Febri Salam from MS Jalan Enam Pengasinan, Gufron from Pencak Silat Padjajaran Cimande, and Delima Bungsu Andy, Chairman of IPSI Kota Tangerang Selatan, this research reveals that limited infrastructure and inadequate educational support are the main obstacles. The results of this study are expected to provide insights for stakeholders in formulating pencak silat development strategies in the city.

Riau Province Regional Regulation No. 12 of 2013 concerning the Implementation of Government Education stipulates the 12-Year Learning Obligation. The Pekanbaru City Education Office is an agency authorized to take care of government affairs in the field of education starting from the PAUD, SD, and SMP levels in Pekanbaru City. But in reality there are still problems in the field of education in Pekanbaru City such as school dropouts. This study aims to describe how the implementation of the duties and functions of the Pekanbaru City Education Office in handling dropouts and describe the inhibiting factors in the implementation of the duties and functions of the Pekanbaru City Education Office in handling dropouts. This research uses the theory of administrative functions according to Oey Liang Lee, namely administrative functions consisting of Planning, Organizing, Coordinating, Implementing and Supervising. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. The data analysis used is data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of the duties and functions of the Pekanbaru City Education Office seen from the indicators of planning and organizing has gone well, while from the indicators of implementation, coordination and supervision has not been maximized due to several inhibiting factors such as the lack of training or coaching conducted for educators in SKB, lack of facilities and infrastructure in the activities of the SKB. lack of facilities and infrastructure in the activities of the equivalency education program, coordination meetings that have not been carried out regularly and supervision that has not reached the supervision standards of the Education Office.

Pendampingan Fasilitasi Pojok Baca sebagai Sarana Edukasi dan Peningkatan Literasi pada Pelajar di Desa Tewang Kadamba Kalimantan Tengah

The lack of facilities and supporting resources for teaching and learning activities in educational institutions and places of worship in Tewang Kadamba Village is a major factor hindering the development of students' literacy skills. In fact, literacy skills are one of the most fundamental aspects that every student must possess to support their continuity as individuals who are expected to live intelligently and with character. One of the breakthroughs offered by the researchers to solve the question as intended is by organizing a reading corner facilitation and facilitation to support the literacy skills of students in the Tewang Kadamba village. Therefore, this research is aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of the reading corn facilitation as a means of education and literacy improvement for students in Tewang kadamba village, central Kalimantan. The qualitative descriptive method was chosen to gain a deep understanding of the social, cultural, and historical context of a phenomenon. The research results show that reading corners can be an effective strategy to increase students' reading interest. Through three stages, namely planning, implementation, and evaluation, the provision of reading corner facilities has proven to enhance the love of reading and change students' positive attitudes towards literacy culture, both at school and in places of worship.

Pengaruh Pendidikan Jasmani Bagi Anak Sekolah Dasar untuk Pembentukan Karakter di Era Modern

This research aims to examine the influence of physical education for elementary school children on character formation in the modern era. By using the literature review method, which begins with identifying relevant sources. The results of the research show that physical education in the modern era has a very important role in development. holistic children. Physical education does not only focus on physical aspects, but also includes cognitive, effective and psychomotor development. Physical education contributes to the formation of students' character and social skills in the modern era. In this context, the role of teachers as role models is crucial, where they are expected to deliver materials in creative and interactive ways, including utilizing digital platforms such as TikTok to attract students' interest. The research also highlights the challenges faced in implementing physical education, such as the lack of facilities and resources and the need for professional training for teachers to improve the quality of learning. Thus, physical education is expected to contribute not only to students' physical health, but also to the development of social skills and adaptability in an increasingly digitalized world.

Challenges and solutions of implementing cooperative learning in classroom environments: lived experiences of primary school teachers in Iran

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to identify the challenges and solutions associated with implementing cooperative learning (CL), based on the lived experiences of teachers in Iran. Thirty-two primary school teachers participated in a 16-session CL workshop. However, only thirty participants were able to implement this approach in their classrooms, and 19 of them voluntarily took part in the interviews. The data collected through interviews were analysed using Atlas.ti software. Three challenges and two solutions emerged as our main findings. The lack of stakeholders’ readiness, lack of facilities, and traditional structure hinder the effective implementation of CL. The results also revealed that improving curriculum elements and fostering a positive attitude among principals, educational policymakers, and other stakeholders towards the CL approach can create suitable conditions for effective implementation in Iran. Identifying perceived challenges and solutions can encourage teachers, parents, policymakers, and principals to provide suitable platforms for implementing CL in Iran. The results of this study highlight the necessity for teachers’ in-service training and participation of stakeholders to improve the delivery of CL.

E-Waste Management Practices Through the Eyes of Responsible Departments at Malaysian Public Universities

Electronic and electrical waste (E-waste) has been identified as the fastest-growing waste stream in the world. In Malaysia, forecasts indicate that it will soon reach 24.5 million units of e-waste by the year 2025. Today, higher learning institutions also contribute to the rapidly growing threat of e-waste. Besides mobile phones, the usage of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment at universities keeps increasing and contributes to the increased quantity of e-waste, while the handling and disposal methods of e-waste still need to be improved. The purpose of this paper is to examine the current e-waste management system as well as to investigate the critical challenges constraining e-waste management at public universities in Malaysia. By using a qualitative approach, a number of interview sessions have been conducted with the responsible departments at six established public universities in Malaysia. It has been found that currently only e-waste generated from used electric and electronic equipment (EEE) which have been declared as university assets are being managed by the responsible departments at the six universities. All six universities are using the standard process of handling their e-waste since every single process needs to comply with the requirements of the Ministry of Finance (MOF). This remains the main constraint to flexibility or improvement of the current system. The universities are also facing some challenges, among others, lack of awareness and knowledge on how to properly handle e-waste among university citizens, no clear sustainable policy at the university, lack of facilities within the university compound to support the proper practice of e-waste disposal as well as lack of education and related training provided to the campus citizens. This paper also provides some recommendations for the improvement of e-waste management towards sustainability and offers an agenda for future research.

Seeking Traditional Healers in the Management of Epilepsy

Abstract Background/Aims The best of the available literature, data about seeking traditional healers by patients with epilepsy are lacking in Egypt. Methods The current study was conducted on Epilepsy patients from Egypt to determine the prevalence of traditional healers among individuals with epilepsy during the period from June-2022 to may-2023. Sixty four patients, male or female ≥18 years old, with epilepsy, were included. All patients were subjected to the assessment Questionnaire for knowledge, attitude to and perception of epilepsy, and seeking traditional healers (THs) using an interviewer. The questionnaire was in Arabic. Results The study included 64 Epilepsy patients. Seeking TH is Egypt 22/64 (34.4%); however, Seeking THs is affected by gender, location, employment status, educational level; but not by age, duration of disease, presence of similar cases in the family or by being an offspring of consanguineous marriage. The percentage of cases who believe the reason behind the symptoms is envy/ Eye /super powers/ Evil spirits/magi in the overall sample is higher in the THs seekers (52.3%) than in the non-seekers (10.3%), p < 0.001. in Egypt it is (54.5%) versus (14.3%), p = 0.001. Conclusions The current study showed that seeking traditional healers is still prevalent. Our work showed that seeking traditional healers is more in rural areas, unemployment, females, low educational levels, lack of facilities with specialization in neurology in rural areas.

Trash in the bin, to a cleaner scene we cling: a mixed method approach on tourists’ binning behavior at two spiritual destinations

ABSTRACT This study investigates tourists’ binning behavior and its importance for the environmental sustainability of tourist destinations, a topic currently understudied in academic research. Through the lens of behavioral reasoning theory (BRT), it explores the factors influencing tourists’ decisions to dispose of waste properly, employing a mixed-methods approach. Initial qualitative research at the Indian spiritual sites of Rishikesh and Haridwar identifies key motivators and barriers to binning behavior. These findings are then integrated into the BRT framework and confirmed via quantitative analysis using PLS-SEM. Results show that the perceived sacredness of a site and awareness of environmental risks encourage proper waste disposal, whereas perceptions of inefficacy, lack of facilities, and established habits deter it. The study underscores the role of environmental values in promoting responsible waste disposal, offering practical suggestions for enhancing sustainable tourism through targeted interventions in spiritual tourism settings.

MENANAMKAN MINAT LITERASI (BACA TULIS) SEJAK DINI DI SDN NAGACIPTA 02

Lack of facilities and infrastructure that can support students’ reading activities, as well as lack of support and motivation for students. In the teaching and learning process, teachers also have not implemented innovative and interesting teaching, especially in teaching reading to students from the lower grades, resulting in a lack of interest and interest among students in literacy activities. The purpose of this writing is to explain the importance of literacy in the quality of human resources who are able to compete and keep up with current developments. The implementation method applied was socialization to students at SDN Nagacipta 02 with the theme of instilling an interest in literacy (reading and writing) from an early age, using the flashcards method for reading practice. This activity was held at SDN Nagacipta 02 which is located in Nagacipta Village, Serang Baru District on February 27 2024. The results of this program can be seen in the increased interest of students in reading. When running the program in class 2 and class 4, students appear to be able to participate in the learning process with enthusiasm and full of activity, this can be seen when running the program in class 2 using the flashcards method and for class 4 students it can also foster a sense of cooperation between classmates. Through group work in creative activities to decorate literacy trees. Because motivation and support both in terms of facilities and infrastructure, as well as the ability to package innovative teaching and learning processes can have a big impact on the growth of students’ interest in the learning process, which will influence the achievement of learning goals.

Understanding the Effect of Problems and Consequences Caused by the COVID-19 Outbreak on the Clinical Activities of Speech-language Pathologists

Background and Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic, as a new phenomenon, caused many problems for speech-language pathologists and faced them with various crises. The aim of this study was to review the experiences of speech-language pathologists with the problems and consequences of the pandemic and their effects on their clinical activities. Methods: A qualitative study of interpretive phenomenological analysis was conducted and 21 participants were selected non-randomly using maximum variation technique. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect information. After collecting the data, coding was started using MAXQDA software. Then, the data were analyzed by thematic analysis method and main themes emerged. Finally, the scientific accuracy of the data was measured by the method of Lincoln and Guba. Results: Ten main themes, including infection, financial consequences, negative consequences of following health protocols, psychological consequences, consequences for clients, problems created in the workplace, problems created by clients, educational problems, lack of facilities, and opportunity creation were extracted, which represented therapists’ experiences with clinical work during the pandemic. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic created many negative and sometimes positive consequences for speech-language pathologists as well as many other professions, which led to changes and new experiences in the former routine of these therapists.

Literacy And Health Awareness Among Tribal Women In North Coastal Districts Of Andhra Pradesh

Tribal women are mostly illiterate and Socially and economically back word. A significant percentage of indigenous tribal women continue to employ home remedies and seek out traditional medicine practitioners/healers. If they are not healed, they seek treatment at private facilities. Inaccessibility, lack of facilities, personnel and their behavior, inconvenient visiting hours, and sickness state were highlighted as barriers to health seeking behavior among Indian tribes while visiting hospitals. Personal problems such as fear of losing daily earnings, cultural beliefs, cost, illiteracy, and unacceptability are also present. Over the years, the lack of maternal health awareness has caused several health concerns, including anemia, neural tube defects , tetanus infection, immunodeficiency syndrome, and even perinatal deaths. Poverty, illiteracy, meagre living conditions, lack of personal hygiene and poor health-seeking behaviour are known to be highly prevalent among these tribes. Further, early age at marriage, consanguinity, high parity and other behavioural factors among women in these tribal communities make them susceptible to sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
