P092 Automation in Equipment Asset Management for Laboratory Efficiencies

Abstract Introduction Asset management of laboratory equipment is essential to patient safety. Traceability enables any patient affected by equipment that has been recalled, or subsequently been found faulty, to be retested. Sleep equipment in home, ward or laboratory needs to be clearly documented but this paperwork is tedious and manual. Methods A portable barcode scanner with software was added to the laboratory asset management and the time efficiencies were evaluated. Results The time reduction of using a barcode scanner to manual data entry was found to decrease time approximately fourfold, from 8 mins (std 1.5mins) to 2.2 mins (std 0.5mins). This is for each sleep laboratory testing bed and can equate to 35 minutes in a six-bed sleep laboratory. Accuracy of data is assured with a barcode scanner, compared to manual input. Discussion Using automation to replace manual tasks in a sleep laboratory saves time and ensures data accuracy. Further advances in automation for tagging medical devices would improve this in areas with high use of home or ward devices.

Global Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory Equipment Management and Sustainability and Implications for Pandemic Preparedness Priorities1.

Substantial investments into laboratories, notably sophisticated equipment, have been made over time to detect emerging diseases close to their source. Diagnostic capacity has expanded as a result, but challenges have emerged. The Equipment Management and Sustainability Survey was sent to the Veterinary Services of 182 countries in mid-2019. We measured the status of forty types of laboratory equipment used in veterinary diagnostic laboratories. Of the 68,455 items reported from 227 laboratories in 136 countries, 22% (14,894/68,455) were improperly maintained, and 46% (29,957/65,490) were improperly calibrated. Notable differences were observed across World Bank income levels and regions, raising concerns about equipment reliability and the results they produce. Our results will advise partners and donors on how best to support low-resource veterinary laboratories to improve sustainability and fulfill their mandate toward pandemic prevention and preparedness, as well as encourage equipment manufacturers to spur innovation and develop more sustainable products that meet end-users' needs.

Modelling of Laboratory Information Systems in Higher Education Based on Enterprise Architecture Planning for Optimizing Monitoring and Equipment Maintenance

<span lang="EN-US">It is possible to conduct scientific research, experiments, measurements, or training in a laboratory. Each department at FMIPA UNNES features several laboratories to complement class lectures for the students. Students can recognise concepts, cultivate scientific attitudes, and improve their critical thinking skills through lab practice. Utilising laboratory resources effectively and efficiently is expected of good laboratory management. Testing of lab equipment is required to ensure proper functionality and readiness for practicum use. Maintaining an eye on the equipment's condition and fixing any damage as soon as it becomes apparent is crucial for providing proof. The drawbacks of manually recording tool repairs are poor paperwork and equipment problems that are untraceable online. With the help of this study, the FMIPA UNNES environment departments will be able to monitor the upkeep of their lab equipment. The research approach starts with a literature review, followed by the first round of data collecting and observation, the design of an EAP-based system, system testing, system analysis, and system assessment. This research aims to create a product for the Monitoring Information System for the Maintenance of Laboratory Equipment using the SDLC (System Development Life Cycle) methodology. Testing involves the use of black box testing. The system's UAT grade of 88% implies that it is appropriate for use and may employ to simplify laboratory equipment management.</span>

E-Deadstock Management System for Educational Institutes

In an Engineering Institute, maintaining the records of the laboratory equipment is a critical issue. A manual method of keeping details is a time-consuming process and also increases paperwork. In this study, we developed a framework of laboratory equipment management systems used for the in-house Electronics Engineering department. This is a web-based system that uses an intranet approach for communication among system users. The system also generates reports that can be helpful to show the equipment’s records in lab audits. This will help to improve work efficiency, lower maintenance costs, and ensure the safety of laboratory equipment

Research on Equipment Management System Based on Robot Laboratory

With the expansion of the scale of our hospital robot laboratory, equipment use, reserves are increasing, manual management equipment information has been unable to adapt to daily management, such as data record error rate increased, the number of experiments increased, equipment loss and maintenance is not clearly defined. In order to ensure the safety and accuracy of the equipment, a system of equipment management systems was developed as a result of the conversion to the use of management systems for the recording and storage of information. The design of this system is a perfect robot laboratory equipment management system based on the development of web framework technology for equipment management functions. The back end of this system uses the Java language, the SSM framework as the main body, the database is built by MySQL relational database, the front-end page uses JSP, Bootstrap, jQuery and other technologies, and uses Eclipse project construction tools for system development. After a period of trial operation, the level of laboratory equipment management has been significantly improved.

Research and Implementation of Big Data Technology Laboratory Equipment Reservation Management System

At present, the laboratory management system of most universities lacks functions and expansibility, so it cannot be adapted to laboratories with high degree of customization. Based on the analysis of the past experience of the laboratory management system in colleges and universities, this paper explores the construction of a comprehensive system suitable for the appointment management of laboratory equipment in colleges and universities. The system adopts Java Web related technology, Web database interaction technology and B/S architecture to form a modular structure with complete functions and flexible management. The construction of the system has realized the standardization, process and integration management of university laboratories, and promoted the effective utilization of university laboratory equipment in colleges and universities.

Equipment Maintenance Challenges and Solutions for Capacity Building and Sustainability in the Training of Engineers: The Case for the University of Zimbabwe

Engineering equipment in some Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Sub-Saharan Africa is underutilized, obsolete or in poor working condition owing to lack of expertise, aging or maintenance-related challenges respectively. A research initiated by the Network of Users of Scientific Equipment in Eastern and Southern Africa (NUSESA) and funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) was carried out by 4 faculties of engineering in Southern Africa to establish common challenges, their causes and to propose solutions. The study revealed that the faculties shared similar problems such as no proper maintenance documentation, no local suppliers for spares and inadequate expertise. The importation of spares usually leads to prolonged lead times and delays in timely repairs to malfunctioning equipment and thus obsolescence. This paper proposes smart procurement partnerships between industry and HEIs, based on the findings from the University of Zimbabwe (UZ). Following the survey and analysis of data obtained, recommendations were made and implemented and have assisted in building capacity in acquisition, maintenance and management of laboratory equipment and sustaining these in the training of engineers.

RFID-Based Logistics Technology of Laboratory Equipments in University

With the popularity of Chinese education and the progress and development of higher education, in order to further enhance their own school-running level and teaching quality as well as improve the level of the teachers, universities has been constantly introducing advanced teaching laboratory equipments. On the one hand, it not only can help the teachers with their teaching, but also can well improve the students' learning efficiency. However, there are also many problems existed in management of the large number of laboratory equipments, for the traditional artificial unintelligent managing way of using pen and paper in daily record already cannot meet the needs of the presented situation. Collecting data by manhood will cause such problems as collecting not in time or collecting incorrectly. And collecting data by manhood puts forward higher request for laboratory managers in equipment management. But if increase the laboratory management personnel, it also causes problems such as the waste of human resources and the increased cost of school management, etc. The presented research, mainly by using the experience and thought in management of logistics field for reference, makes a research on the application of laboratory equipment management in colleges and universities based on RFID logistics technology to solve the problems exited in the management of laboratory equipments. Using real-time monitoring laboratory equipment and intelligent tracking laboratory equipments to record and verify information can reduce the workload of lab manager and strengthen the way and the level of the laboratory management. At the same time, it also can enables the superior managers to timely master the status of school laboratory equipment, accelerating the informational construction of universities and colleges, further optimizing the configuration of teaching laboratory equipment, and fully improving usage rate of the school laboratory equipment.

A Laboratory Equipment Management System Design Based on RFID

For the needs of laboratory equipment management, combined with development of RFID, a laboratory equipment management system is designed based on RFID. System design is briefly described. UHF RFID reader design is described in detail. The anti-collision algorithm of ISO 18000-6C protocol is partially improved, so that the reader is able to make real-time adaptations of the anti-collision algorithm using IAP according to the quantity of laboratory equipments, thus raising the efficiency of algorithm recognition. Experimental results prove that the system design has reliability, stability and certain practical value.
