Pengembangan Survei Kebutuhan Pendidikan Dan Pelatihan Kepariwisataan: Peningkatkan Kapasitas Masyarakat Desa Sanrobone, Kabupaten Takalar

Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi, possesses diverse tourism potential encompassing nature, culture, history, marine, and man-made attractions. Tourism development in this region contributes to the improvement of the local economy. However, based on observations and needs analysis conducted by the Community Service team from Makassar Tourism Polytechnic, training is necessary. Tourism managers of Sanrobone Village require collaboration between the government, educational institutions, and local communities. The tourism training program implemented by Makassar Tourism Polytechnic aims to support the development and improvement of human resource quality in Sanrobone Village, Takalar Regency, as well as increase tourism knowledge and awareness among local communities. Through this program, it is expected to assist in the development and management of Sanrobone Village to become an excellent tourist village. The interactive method of delivering material that considers participants' needs is key to the success of this program. The materials include Tourism Awareness and Sapta Pesona, Service Excellence, Digital Marketing, and an explanation of the requirements to meet the ADWI criteria. The conclusion from the training implementation is to maximize the natural, cultural, and historical potential in Sanrobone Village, thus impacting the increase of community tourism awareness in the environment surrounding the Tourist Attraction. Human resource development training for managers is expected to help realize an excellent tourist village."

Identifying risks for success in space tourism: A proactive approach for Türkiye

Effective planning is crucial for the success of any tourism endeavor, including space tourism. To ensure correct and proactive planning, it is essential to identify and address potential threats and weaknesses in advance. This research aims to reveal possible threats to Turkiye's success in the field of space tourism, employing a qualitative research approach with expert interviews. Building on this context, the research adopts a deductive approach, focusing on a qualitative “situation analysis” design, with Türkiye as the universe and sample. Expert opinions from professionals with technical knowledge of space commercialization and tourism were collected using a snowball sampling technique. Through in-depth interviews, the perceived risks were identified and analyzed. The data obtained were coded and categorized, resulting in main themes related to various elements of the external environment, including political, international, legal, economic, social-cultural, demographic, and technological risks, as well as ethical considerations.The findings highlight that space tourism activities, especially suborbital and extraorbital ventures, carry significant risks. To ensure Türkiye's success in space tourism, the study emphasizes the importance of conducting a comprehensive analysis of the external environment, considering the interrelatedness of the identified risk factors.

Destination promotional videos and tourism ethnocentrism in emerging tourism destinations: is there a link?

Purpose There is an increasing focus on the significance of tourism ethnocentrism in determining the success of tourism development and marketing. However, the relationship between tourism ethnocentrism and various tourism-related concepts remains inadequately explored. Hence, this study aims to address the growing need to examine the factors that bolster tourism ethnocentrism in emerging tourism destinations using stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R) paradigm. Design/methodology/approach Using a quantitative cross-sectional survey design, the study gathered data from 434 respondents, which were subsequently analyzed using structural equation modeling. Findings The results highlight crucial findings: destination promotional videos contribute to the accumulation of tourism knowledge, which, in turn, fosters tourism ethnocentrism. These findings imply that tourism knowledge mediates the relationship between destination promotional videos and tourism ethnocentrism. Practical implications The study strongly advocates for using destination promotional videos to enhance resident support for tourism by augmenting perceived tourism knowledge. Managers in destination marketing organizations (DMOs) are encouraged to adopt destination promotional videos as a novel approach for promoting inclusive tourism development by enhancing tourism knowledge as mechanisms for promoting tourism ethnocentrism. Originality/value By considering and proposing destination promotional videos as an ambivalent mechanism of tourism ethnocentrism, this study is an academic endeavor that advances insights into the occurrence of tourism ethnocentrism as an important component of inclusive tourism development.

TourismNER: A Tourism Named Entity Recognition method based on entity boundary joint prediction

Tourism named entity recognition is indispensable in tourism information extraction, and plays a crucial role in constructing tourism knowledge map and enhancing tourism knowledge quiz system. The difficulty of tourism named entity recognition lies in its complex nested structure, and the lengthy entity naming length. To address these existing problems, we propose a tourism named entity recognition model that jointly predicts entity boundaries, adopting a training strategy of data preprocessing to enhance the model’s ability for tourism named entity boundary recognition, while our model introduces a pre-trained Bert model as well as BiLSTM coding to enhance the representation of the model’s contexts, and uses a combined predictor of Biaffine and MLP to enhance the model’s recognition performance for boundaries, as well as introducing label smoothing cross entropy to smooth the target labels during the training process. Experiments are conducted on three datasets with different granularities. From the analysis of the experimental results, it can be seen that the named entity recognition method achieves higher accuracy and F1 value compared with the optimal baseline model, and also proves the effectiveness and generality of the modeling method proposed in this paper.

THE DETERMINANTION OF THE DEMAND FOR THE INTERNATIONAL RURAL DESTINATION - THE PLS MODEL

One of the biggest challenges facing agritourism destination managers is a clear understanding of the factors that motivate consumers to choose a particular agritourism destination, and be loyal to it, when they have countless other options. The research on the international agritourism destination, from a broader perspective, aims to analyze the market behavior of tourists and implies the necessary prior knowledge of tourists’ decision-making. Therefore the subject of research is the analysis of the influence of the agritourism gastronomic experience, thorough the analysis of the influence of the factors of the agritourism gastronomic experience on the development of loyalty towards an agritourism destination. The survey analyzes international tourists' reactions to the atmosphere of catering establishments, gastronomy, services, quality and prices which affects the satisfaction and the loyalty to the agritourism destination, in our case the agritourism destinations in the Province of Vojovodina, close to the city of Novi Sad. The findings have shown that there is a statistically significant and positive association between atmosphere of agritourism catering establishments and gastronomy and satisfaction with the agritourism destination. The satisfaction with the agritourism destination has a positive relationship with the loyalty to the agritourism destination. The findings can help the stakeholders to improve the agritourism gastronomic experience as it covers an important role in the development of the gastronomic experience. The contribution of this paper is that it directly focuses on an aspect of the relationship between the elements of the agritourism gastronomic experience, satisfaction and loyalty that have not been previously directly addressed.

Influencing Factors on Tourists’ Intentions for Sustainable Tourism Destinations: Moderating Effects of Financial Constraints and Moral Reflectiveness

ABSTRACTThis study investigates the relationships between environmental awareness, travel motivations, tourism knowledge, and intentions to choose sustainable destinations. Using a survey of 495 participants and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS‐SEM), we examine how financial constraints and moral reflectiveness moderate these relationships. Our findings indicate a strong positive correlation between environmental values and support for sustainable tourism. Travel motivations, knowledge about sustainable tourism, and a positive environmental attitude all significantly contribute to a tourist's intention to travel sustainably. Interestingly, gender moderates the influence of travel motivations on environmental values, while moral reflection moderates the link between environmental values and the intention to support sustainable tourism. Financial constraints did not have a significant moderating effect. Our study provides valuable insights for stakeholders in the tourism industry, highlighting the importance of aligning strategies with tourist motivations and emphasizing environmental benefits to encourage responsible travel practices.

EMOTIONAL SOLIDARITY IN TOURISM DEVELOPMENT: HOW POLICY AND KNOWLEDGE DRIVE SUPPORT IN GILGIT BALTISTAN, PAKISTAN

The participation of local communities is vital in developing tourism, as their attitudes and behaviours can significantly impact the growth and success of a destination. As the primary recipients of future tourism developments, the perspectives of local communities should guide the creation of sustainable policies aimed at maximising benefits and minimising negative impacts. The study examines how government policy, tourism knowledge, emotional solidarity, and support for tourism development are interrelated among the residents of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Based on a quantitative and cross-sectional research design with two sampling stages comprising quota and purposive sampling, 216 responses from the residents of Gilgit-Baltistan were collected and analysed through Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). It was revealed that government policy and tourism knowledge influence residents' welcoming nature and emotional closeness, and they contribute to their support for tourism development. The findings underscore the importance of establishing targeted and effective support systems between stakeholders to sustain the benefits of tourism development.

Modelling the Mechanical Effect of Salt Weathering on Historical Sandstone Blocks through Microdrilling

The durability of sandstones of historical building materials and geoheritage landforms is a major issue that requires an assessment methodology to follow salt weathering evolution. The building blocks of monuments support decorative carvings and reliefs that are outstanding testimonies of human activity. An evaluation based on quasi- and non-destructive testing is a reliable and generally accepted way of testing and inspecting historical building materials. Compression tests were performed on specimens of similar building sandstones extracted close to those of from St. Leonard’s Middle Ages Church, and microdrilling tests were carried out on adequate blocks of this monument. The locations of the latter tests were determined using the results of low-pressure water absorption tests, which contributed to finding a link between the sandstone specimens and the building blocks of the monument. This innovative methodology was used to generate simulated stress–strain diagrams of the building blocks of this church based on drilling strength results, avoiding the cutting of specimens from the façades with the sizes needed to ensure the mechanical validity of the results. A good agreement between the predicted and experimental stress–strain curves was achieved. The stress–strain curves of sound stones from historical building blocks and of their weathered envelopes are shown. The evolution of weathering profiles can be followed through the analysis of stress–strain diagrams, allowing an assessment of structural stability, which is essential to the study of the durability of historical building sandstones. This innovative methodology allows the adequate conservation of monuments and is a contribution to the knowledge of sustainable cultural tourism.

Reconciling neologisms and the need for precision in tourism epistemology

ABSTRACT Generating and advancing knowledge in tourism can entail the emergence of neologisms: new terms are coined to describe new realities. Given the interdisciplinary and pluralistic nature of tourism epistemology, stakeholders from diverse academic and non-academic domains tend to contribute to generating knowledge, and to negotiating the semantics of neologisms. As a result, tourism neologisms can have diverse discipline and context-specific meanings. This, however, can pose challenges to tourism science, where precision and accuracy are key requirements. A lack of semantic precision can invalidate study results and hinder mutual comprehension in the field. Additionally, the pressure to publish and generate citations in academia can lead tourism scholars to work with neologisms whose meanings are still vague. In this paper, we show how tourism researchers have rushed to adopt the non-academic neologism ‘overtourism’, but frequently failed to contextualise its use or to contribute to a more precise conceptualisation of the term. Our analysis illustrates that this has adverse effects on the quality of the scholarly output. The paper concludes with recommendations for increased precision and accuracy for tourism researchers, lecturers, and journal editors.

Design of strategies to position the tourist attractions of the parish of Cacha, canton Riobamba

The Cacha parish, located in Riobamba, Ecuador, has great tourism potential that has not yet been exploited. The objective of this study is to design positioning strategies for its tourist attractions through the implementation of effective branding. A mixed qualitative and quantitative approach was used for the research. A survey of 383 inhabitants of Riobamba was conducted to analyze tourism knowledge and preferences. Data were collected through documentary and field methods, including surveys, interviews and observation. The findings revealed that 67.1% of the respondents were unaware of Cacha's tourist attractions and 76% had not seen related publicity. However, 93% expressed willingness to visit. The conclusion is that the lack of knowledge and effective promotion are the main obstacles to tourism development in Cacha. For which strategies are proposed such as: creation of brand identity, development of promotional materials, implementation of advertising campaigns in local and digital media to increase the visibility of Cacha as a tourist destination, participation in tourism fairs and events. The implementation of these branding strategies will contribute to effectively position Cacha as an attractive tourist destination, increasing the number of visitors and generating economic benefits for the local community.

Destination Promotion Videos and Tourism Knowledge: A Road Toward Residents’ Empowerment in Emerging Tourism Destinations

There is a major outcry among Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) in emerging tourism destinations regarding the low participation or engagement of key stakeholders, mainly local residents, in sustainable tourism. Although several initiatives have been taken by DMOs to ensure that local residents participate in inclusive tourism development, major progress has not been achieved so far. Past studies indicate that even though local residents are engaged and involved in tourism development, they have not been able to fully exercise power and control over tourism, hence they participate as passive beneficiaries rather than active beneficiaries. Thus, this study is an attempt to investigate the role of destination promotion videos and tourism knowledge as drivers of residents’ empowerment in emerging tourism destinations. The study used convenience sampling to determine a sample of 417 local residents in the Dodoma region, from whom data were collected. The data analysis, using structural equation modeling, suggests that tourism knowledge is an important driver of residents’ empowerment among local residents. Additionally, tourism knowledge can be cultivated through the use of destination promotion videos as important sources of information about tourism destinations. This study recommends that DMOs should utilize various public awareness campaigns, such as short destination videos, to empower individuals with knowledge. This knowledge could instill confidence and encourage their participation in inclusive tourism development.

Indigenous Knowledge in Entrepreneurship and Cultural Tourism in the Rural Areas

Abstract This study investigates the influence of indigenous knowledge systems on indigenous entrepreneurship and sustainability practices. Through a deductive approach, qualitative data was collected from fifteen business owners using systematic random sampling. Extensive one-on-one interviews and focus group discussions were conducted to gather in-depth perspectives. The findings reveal that a significant proportion of the entrepreneurs actively incorporate indigenous knowledge into their business operations. Additionally, cultural tourism is experiencing a surge, although largely operating in the informal sector. Notably, the agripreneurs face substantial challenges in accessing mainstream markets, a predicament shared by entrepreneurs across various sectors. The conversations with the participants unveiled multidimensional obstacles hindering their progress, including inadequate capital, limited access to funding opportunities, and discriminatory practices by financial institutions. Furthermore, the study highlights the need for comprehensive support mechanisms to foster indigenous entrepreneurship and promote sustainable practices rooted in traditional knowledge systems.

Digitally enriched exhibitions: Perspectives from Museum professionals

In approaching museum digitalisation, museum professionals are under-represented in tourism research. Yet they are key stakeholders whose opinions can help refine tourism knowledge. To address this gap, the present study assessed their social representation of digitally enriched exhibitions. In this two-phase qualitative study, 146 blog posts and 26 videos generated by museum professionals were retrieved and 22 interviews were completed. The analysis suggested the social representation is featured by 1) educational intent, 2) artefact-centred design, 3) complex visitor experience management, 4) critique of lacking cultural values, and 5) phygital strategy. Three themata were identified and explicated through in-depth interviews, namely education—entertainment, artefact-centred—visitor-centred, and materiality—digitalisation. The research serves as a meaningful portrayal of museum experts’ views. The museum context is socially and institutionally distinct. Studying and making digital experiences with museums adheres to heritage discourse and artefact materiality, in which concepts like hierolatry and factishism deserve contemplation.

Indigenous voices: Using cultural knowledge for tourism

This research reports on Indigenous cultural knowledge holders' opportunities and challenges in using their cultural knowledge to develop authentic tourism experiences. The research investigated issues related to sourcing, storing, managing, and authorising local cultural knowledge to create authentic tourism experiences. The key finding is that while Aboriginal parties are interested in using cultural knowledge to develop tourism products, pathways need to be designed to facilitate the related development. The research utilised the Indigenous research yarning method and found this approach to be particularly useful with potential for broader use in qualitative research. The findings can be applied more broadly across the Australian national tourism landscape. The findings advance knowledge management theory through the lens of Indigenous tourism.

Unraveling Tourists’ Experience of a Cremation Site: A Text Mining Approach

This article investigates the experiences of tourists visiting a cremation site, an unconventional tourist destination. By analyzing online reviews collected from TripAdvisor, using text mining and natural language processing (NLP) techniques, the study aims to fill the gaps in the literature on tourists’ experiences at cremation sites. The study explores the differences in the experiences of Indian domestic tourists and those from other cultural backgrounds. This study applies the views of Urry’s gaze theory and Stone’s dark tourism classification theory to discuss the tourists’ experiences. The results reveal significant differences in the experiences of Indian and international tourists. The emotion of foreign tourists lies with the existential and philosophical dimension, and Indian tourists are more connected with religious and mythological dimensions. The results validate Urry’s gaze theory and disagree with Stone’s dark tourism classification. This research contributes to the existing knowledge of dark tourism by providing valuable insights into tourists’ experiences at unconventional sites. Furthermore, the study highlights the importance of location managers understanding the significance of tourists’ experiences at sites to create enjoyable tours for domestic and international visitors. The article will benefit casual vacationers, academics, and scholars specializing in dark tourism, travelers??? narratives, online reviews, NLP, and trip organizers.

Factors that Influence Malaysian Muslim Travel Preferences

Tourism has become an important industry that contributes to a country’s economy. Currently, the Muslim tourist segment is viewed as one of the important segments in the tourism industry. In addition, there has been a growing interest in understanding the preferences and motivations of Muslim travelers. This is due to the increasing number of Muslim travelers worldwide and the recognition that catering to their specific needs is essential for successful tourism development. The number of Muslim tourists from a Muslim-majority country increases significantly. Muslim travelers are looking for destinations in which the majority of the population are Muslims. This study is aimed to determine the factors that influence Muslim traveler preferences and to determine the most dominant factor that influences Muslim traveler preferences. Therefore, a survey of 100 Malaysian Muslim travelers in Shah Alam Selangor was done to determine the factors that influence Muslim traveler preferences. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) is used to analyze the multiple regression to test hypotheses on the factors that influence Muslim traveler preferences. The result of the survey suggests that halal certification is a significant factor in explaining Muslim traveler preferences. The availability of halal food and Sharia-compliant hotels were found not to have a significant relationship with Muslim travel preferences. This study provides evidence of the detailed needs and preferences of Muslim travelers and enhances the knowledge of tourists, government, and service providers about Islamic tourism

Knowledge mobility after tourism entrepreneurial failure: Life after death?

There has been limited conceptualization in tourism of the knowledge consequences of firm failure despite overall high failure rates. There is no simple dichotomy between the lost knowledge of failed firms and knowledge survival in successful firms. This paper therefore elaborates a three-stage conceptual model of the post-failure trajectories of knowledge. The model focusses on the distinctive combination of tacit and codified knowledge in context of impure public goods, their distribution within and beyond the firm, and their micro and macro determinants. Three main post-failure trajectories are identified: cold storage/black hole of knowledge, knowledge recovery, and knowledge recombination. A research agenda is outlined for this neglected aspect of tourism knowledge research which has significant implications for innovation.

Evaluating wildlife tourism exposure to Florida manatees using citizen science, public interviews, and trail cameras

Abstract Wildlife tourism often focuses on marine mammals, and the growing frequency of human interactions raises concerns about the sustainability of these activities and their impact on aquatic species. Tourists have the opportunity to view the Florida manatee (Trichechus manatus latirostris) in various locations; however, the level of tourist activity in some areas and their effects on manatees are unknown. Preliminary studies are essential to assess whether these areas warrant additional regulatory and mitigation strategies based on tourism impact. Here, we investigated tourism activity on a site often visited by small aggregations of Florida manatees. From 2022 to 2023, interviews, citizen science, and trail cameras were used to assess watercraft activity, tourist knowledge, and the educational practices offered by watercraft rental businesses at Portosueno Park, Florida, USA. Both trail cameras and citizen science revealed that boats were the most common visitors to the park, averaging 23 watercraft visits per week. Interviews indicated that the majority of the public did not observe the posted signs addressing manatee harassment and were unaware of the prohibition against chasing manatees, the most frequently observed form of harassment at the park. The methods used complemented each other to elucidate tourism activity and has the potential to inform outreach efforts and mitigation strategies.
