Assessing the Knowledge of HPV-Associated Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma, HPV Vaccination, and Practice Scope among Saudi Dental Students in the Western Region.

(1) Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is significantly associated with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HPV-OPSCC), which is one of the fastest-growing cancer incidences globally. Dental practitioners play a crucial role in the primary and secondary prevention of HPV-OPSCC. There is little known about dental students' awareness regarding HPV-OPSCC and HPV vaccination, as well as their intention to promote 'primordial prevention' among their patients. HPV vaccine, and the extent of their professional responsibilities. (2) Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the western region of Saudi Arabia and involved undergraduate dental students (n = 688) from six public and private dental schools. Participants were requested to complete a sequential-section anonymous online survey, with 257 successfully completing all sections of the questionnaire. The association between participant characteristics and HPV-OPSCC, HPV vaccination awareness ratings, and perceived engagement in prevention were analyzed using ANOVA and chi-squared testing. A binary logistic regression analysis was conducted to examine the variables linked to these outcomes. (3) Results: Generally, the overall level of awareness of HPV-OPSCC and HPV vaccination was acceptable, with an average score of 53.44 ± 29.3 out of 100. However, a significant knowledge gap was observed, with 53% of respondents being unaware of the common sites for HPV-OPSCC and 63.8% being uninformed of the appropriate age for HPV vaccination. Females and those with a prior history of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) had considerably higher levels of HPV vaccination knowledge (p < 0.05). The participants showed a favorable attitude towards their responsibility of informing patients about HPV-OPSCC and advocating HPV immunization. (4) Conclusions: This study underscores the need to enhance dental students' understanding of HPV-OPSCC and HPV immunization, enabling them to effectively engage in primary and secondary preventative efforts against HPV-OPSCC.

A Cross-sectional Sectional Study to Assess Knowledge, Attitude and Practice towards Cervical Cancer, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Infection and HPV Vaccine among 9th to 12th Grade School Girls in Indore

Background: Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is most common viral infection among women between 15 to 44 age group. When administered before girls or women are exposed to the virus, HPV vaccine can prevent majority of cervical cancer occurrences. Therefore to evaluate knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding cervical cancer,HPV infection and HPV vaccine among girls in grades 9 to 12 the current study was conducted.Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted between July-December 2022 in Indore governmentschools. Total 120 girls in grades 9 to 12 after receiving informed consent involved in the study. Data regarding knowledge, attitude and practice about cervical cancer, HPV infection and HPV vaccination collected using pretested semi-structured questionnaire. SPSS version 25.0 (Trial version) was used for data analysis.Conclusion: Among 120 students (34.16%) and (20.83%) had heard about cervical cancer and HPV vaccinerespectively, where majority were from class 11th and 12th. The association was significant between knowledge of students and their grades (p&lt;0.05). (3.33%) received HPV vaccine. Among unvaccinated, (68.96%) were willing to take vaccine. Hence the study found that knowledge and uptake of HPV vaccination among school girls is poor. The government needs to strengthen the various aspects of HPV education supplied in schools and HPV vaccination awareness campaigns.

Knowledge and Attitude of Mothers towards Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine Uptake in Nigeria

Background: The human papilloma virus (HPV), a principal factor in the development of cervical cancer, is identified as one of the most widespread sexually transmitted infections, leading to a variety of conditions globally, from warts to cancer. It is estimated that 75% of people worldwide will contract an HPV infection at some point in their lives. Vaccination against HPV serves as an important preventive measure to reduce the rates of cervical cancer. Objective: This study assessed knowledge, attitude of mothers toward HPV vaccine uptake in Local communities in Edo State Nigeria. Methods: A cross-sectional study utilizing a descriptive approach was carried out with 350 participants, chosen through simple random sampling. Information was gathered via questionnaires conducted by researchers and was processed with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), version 25. To examine the relationships between variables, the Fisher's exact test was employed, with statistical significance determined by a P-value &lt; 0.05. Results: The average age of those surveyed was 40.4 years, with a standard deviation of 10.1 years. A mere 28.3% (44 respondents) had adequate knowledge about HPV and its vaccine. A significant portion (80%) exhibited a negative attitude toward receiving the HPV vaccine. There was a noticeable statistical correlation between the respondents' age and their awareness of HPV (with a p-value of 0.019) as well as between their employment status and their knowledge about HPV (p-value = 0.002). The primary reason cited by participants for not getting the HPV vaccine was its lack of availability. Conclusion: Knowledge and uptake of HPV vaccination among the respondents were poor. Majority also had negative attitude towards uptake of the vaccine.

Knowledge and Awareness of Human Papillomavirus Infection and Vaccination in Thai Male Youth, Including Men Who Have Sex With Men

OBJECTIVE There is currently a lack of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination policy and education for male youth in Thailand. This study aimed to evaluate Thai male youth’s knowledge and awareness of HPV infection and vaccination, determine their HPV vaccination rate, and factors related to the vaccination rate and the level of awareness of HPV. METHODS A questionnaire survey on HPV vaccination was distributed to educational institutions across different regions of Thailand. Inclusion criteria included Thai male youth aged between 15 and 24 years, regardless of sexual orientation. Exclusion criteria were inability to access the internet, individuals whose responses were unintelligible, and those who did not complete the questionnaire. The trends of the association between participant characteristics and their HPV knowledge/awareness scores was analyzed using linear regression. RESULTS A total of 594 individuals responded to the questionnaire. The median score for knowledge was 11 out of 18 and the awareness level was 80%. Higher education level, higher family income, bisexuality, and prior receipt of HPV information were statistically significantly linked to higher HPV knowledge scores. However, only previous receipt of HPV information was associated with an increased awareness level. CONCLUSIONS Although the level of HPV knowledge and awareness among Thai males was acceptable, less than 50% of participants expressed an intention to get vaccinated. This indicates there is a need to improve the promotion of the HPV vaccine in order to achieve herd immunity.

Exploring Indonesian Primary Schoolgirls' Experiences of School-based HPV Vaccination, Knowledge of HPV Risks and Prevention, and Preferences for Cervical Cancer Education.

In 2016, Indonesia introduced its Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination demonstration program for girls in grades 5 and 6 of primary school, to reduce cervical cancer (CC) burden in selected provinces and test the viability of nationwide vaccination. This study explored schoolgirls' experience of school-based HPV vaccination, their knowledge of HPV and HPV vaccination, and their preferences for cervical cancer (CC) education. An online survey was conducted with schoolgirls who experienced HPV vaccination between 2019 and 2021 through the demonstration program. Using purposive sampling, respondents were recruited through partnerships with primary public health centres and primary schools in Jakarta and Yogyakarta. Data analysis was conducted using Chi-square test, Independent-samples t-test, and one-way ANOVA. One hundred and forty primary schoolgirls with a mean age of 12.2 years (SD = 0.70) completed the survey. Schools and mothers were identified as key actors in socialising children about important health information and as girls' preferred sources of information. The average summed score for girls' knowledge of HPV, the HPV vaccine, and CC after being vaccinated was 5.07 out of 10 (SD 0.23). Significant differences in the mean knowledge scores among participants with different preferences regarding CC education in school were observed. While schoolgirls' experiences of HPV vaccination were largely positive, their knowledge of critical health information regarding HPV vaccination and CC prevention needs improving. Thus, it is necessary to provide parents, and school-based educators with culturally appropriate strategies and comprehensive evidence-based information about HPV vaccination and CC prevention more effectively to children.

HPV education and vaccination uptake in college students: A DNP project.

The purpose of this DNP project was to establish baseline human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates, improve baseline knowledge of HPV and HPV vaccines, reduce barriers to HPV vaccination, and increase intention of HPV vaccine uptake among college students. A precaution adoption process model-based survey, in-person education session, and posteducation survey were administered to college students in a Midwestern university to measure perceptions of HPV and HPV vaccination as well as to identify barriers to HPV vaccination. From the preeducation survey to the posteducation survey, correct answers to questions increased, and barriers and misconceptions about HPV and the HPV vaccine decreased, indicating successful education. HPV vaccination intent, defined as indication of "likely" or "very likely" to receive the vaccine on the surveys, rose from 28.0% to 90.7% among participating college students. This study showed that implementing engaging, in-person HPV prevention education is an effective method for decreasing barriers related to vaccination and increasing vaccination intention.

Knowledge and perception of HPV vaccination among Lebanese mothers of children between nine and 17 years old

BackgroundThe human papillomavirus (HPV), a prevalent sexually transmitted infection, is linked to a wide range of diseases, with cervical cancer being the most common and serious one. HPV vaccination is crucial for preventing cervical cancer and other HPV-related problems. The low acceptability of HPV vaccination among teenagers globally is largely due to a lack of understanding and information about HPV among parents. Our study aimed to evaluate the level of knowledge, attitude, intention, and HPV vaccination among parents in Lebanon as well as the variables influencing Lebanese mothers' intentions to vaccinate their children.MethodsA cross-sectional survey-based study involving 392 participants was conducted between May and June 2022. The study assessed parents' intention to vaccinate their children against HPV, their knowledge about HPV, and the HPV vaccine. The data was collected through an anonymous electronic questionnaire. A bivariate analysis was conducted using Student t-test and ANOVA to examine the relationship between the dependent variable “Intention to vaccination” and the secondary variables. The level of statistical significance was set at 0.05 for all data.ResultsOur findings showed that only 63% of the 392 participants claimed they would give their child the HPV vaccination. A positive significant association was demonstrated between "Intention to vaccinate against HPV" and mother's nationality, father's educational level, family income per month, information received about the HPV vaccine, parents' HPV vaccination, insurance coverage of the HPV vaccine, children's vaccinations with all required vaccines, knowledge of HPV, and knowledge of the HPV vaccine. Furthermore, when parents know about HPV, their desire to vaccinate their child increases by a factor of 1.832 times, and by 1.207 times when their knowledge level increases by one point.ConclusionThe majority of parents lacked a general understanding of most HPV-related statements, which highlights the requirement for educational interventions to raise parental awareness, understanding, and attitudes toward HPV and, as a result, increase parental acceptance of vaccinating their children. To increase the vaccination rate among adolescents, government authorities should ensure that the HPV vaccine is available in all hospitals and clinics and should be provided free of charge.

A global study on knowledge and perception of HPV and HPV vaccination among young obstetricians and gynecologists.

Our goal is to improve the understanding of human papillomavirus (HPV) and its vaccination among obstetrics and gynecology trainees and young specialists worldwide. This cross-sectional study was conducted through an online survey consisting of 28 questions by the World Association of Trainees in Obstetrics and Gynecology between February and August 2023. The questionnaire collected demographic data of the study participants and assessed the respondents' knowledge and perception of HPV, HPV vaccines, and vaccine dosing schedule. Two hundred five Ob/Gyn trainees and young Ob/Gyns from 52 countries completed the survey. The majority of respondents were trainees (158, 77.1%). Most trainees and young Ob/Gyns learned about HPV for the first time during medical school (149, 72.6%). Almost all (204, 99.5%) Ob/Gyns responded that HPV was sexually transmitted. More than half of the respondents had not received HPV vaccination (110, 53.7%). The vaccine was recommended for respondents mostly by their Ob/Gyn senior colleagues (110, 53.7%). Most of the respondents knew how to manage HPV-positive patients (179, 87.3%). This study suggests that even though knowledge on HPV and its vaccination is satisfactory among trainees and young Ob/Gyns, HPV vaccination remains deficient. There is a need to understand, educate, and address the potential problem that lies underneath.

Evidence of Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice Regarding Human Papilloma Virus Vaccination at the Community Level in India: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Effective vaccines for the prevention of cervical cancers are available in India. The existing knowledge and attitude regarding the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine varies widely among available studies. Our study aimed to estimate pooled prevalence related to knowledge, attitude, and practice of HPV vaccination in India. We conducted systematic searches in PUBMED, EMBASE, CINHAL, PROQUEST, and Cochrane Library databases using database-specific search strategies. The random effects model was used for estimating the pooled proportion of knowledge, attitude, and practice. The outlier studies were identified using the Baujat test. Egger's regression test and funnel plots were used to identify publication bias. Database-specific search strategies yielded 2,377 records from five databases. We identified 48 studies for full-text retrieval after screening titles and abstracts. Finally, 27 studies were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled prevalence of knowledge regarding HPV vaccines in India was 0.22 (CI;0.14-0.31, I2 =99.5%). The pooled prevalence of positive attitudes towards the uptake of HPV vaccines in India was 0.45 (CI;0.33-0.57, I2 =100%). The pooled prevalence of coverage of HPV vaccines in India was 0.04 (CI;0.02-0.07, I2 =96%). Significant publication bias was present for the studies' reported knowledge and coverage. The knowledge, attitude, and coverage of the HPV vaccine were low in India. It suggests effective strategies to improve knowledge and attitudes towards HPV vaccination in India.

Screening for High-Risk Human Papillomavirus Reveals HPV52 and HPV58 among Pediatric and Adult Patient Saliva Samples.

Previous research has demonstrated that the human papillomavirus (HPV) can infect a wide range of human tissues, including those within the oral cavity. High-risk oral HPV strains have been associated with the development and progression of oral cancers, including oral squamous cell carcinomas. Although many studies have examined the prevalence of the high-risk strains HPV16 and HPV18, far fewer have assessed the prevalence of other high-risk HPV strains. An approved study protocol was used to identify HPV52 and HPV58 among clinical samples (n = 87) from a saliva biorepository. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and validated primers for HPV52 and HPV58 were used to facilitate this screening. This screening demonstrated that a total of n = 4/45 or 8.9% of adult saliva samples harbored high-risk HPV52, and n = 2/45 or 4.4% tested positive for high-risk HPV58. In addition, a total of n = 6/42 or 14.3% of the pediatric saliva samples tested positive for high-risk HPV, including n = 5/42 or 11.9% with HPV52 and n = 3/42 or 7.1% for HPV58. These data demonstrate the presence of the high-risk oncogenic HPV52 and HPV58 strains among both adult and pediatric clinical patient samples. More detailed longitudinal research must be conducted to determine whether this prevalence may be increasing or decreasing over time. In addition, these data strongly support public health prevention efforts, such as knowledge and awareness of the nine-valent HPV vaccine covering additional high-risk strains, including HPV52 and HPV58.

Predictors of Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Intention and Uptake Among US Hispanic Parents: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Introduction: This study explored the influence of the Theory of Planned Behavior constructs on human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine (HPVV) intentions and uptake among Hispanic parents in South Florida for their children aged 9-21. Method: A descriptive exploratory analysis was conducted using 39 surveys completed by Hispanic parents. These surveys encompassed demographic data and questions about HPVV uptake, intention, attitudes, subjective norms, knowledge, self-efficacy, and awareness. Results: Most participants were uninsured (77%), unemployed (59%), and had low Americanism acculturation (74%). A little over half were aware of the HPVV (54%), yet most had high positive HPVV attitudes (95%) and self-efficacy (85%). HPVV intentions within the year were also high (82%); however, HPVV uptake (45%) and HPVV knowledge (40%) were low at the time of the study. Most parents reported physicians (72%) and nurses/nurse practitioners (59%) as the most influential individuals in their decision-making. A statistically significant relationship between HPVV intention and HPVV attitude (X_Wald^2 (1) = 5.71, p = 0.02., OR = 5.11) and between HPVV uptake and HPVV awareness (X_Wald^2 (1) = 4.63, p = 0.03., OR = 12) were observed. Conclusion: This study recommends further research and targeted interventions to improve HPVV awareness among Hispanic communities. The participants' highly positive attitudes and self-efficacy provide a hopeful outlook for future vaccination efforts within this demographic.

Parental Knowledge of HPV Infection, Cervical Cancer and the Acceptance of HPV Vaccination for their Children in Jos, Nigeria.

Despite the high prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infections and cervical cancer in Nigeria, the utilization of the HPV vaccine as a highly effective preventive measure remains low. The aim of this study was to find out if parental knowledge of HPV infection and cervical cancer influenced the acceptance of HPV vaccines for their 9-14-year-old children. This was a cross-sectional survey of 509 parents comprising 262 fathers and 247 mothers in 8 randomly selected communities in Jos, Plateau State Nigeria. A pretested semi-structured investigator-administered questionnaire, without identifiers, was used to collect information on parental knowledge of HPV, cervical cancer, HPV vaccine and its acceptance for their 9-14-year-old children. The data were analysed using SPSS version 23.0. Bivariate analysis was done using chi-square statistical test. Point estimates with corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) were estimated with a value of P ≤ 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Five hundred and nine parents were interviewed. The mean age of the respondents was 43.7 ± 9.43 years. Most of the participants (86.1%) had formal education from primary to tertiary level. Only 1.60%, 11.60% and 1.62% of respondents had knowledge of HPV, cervical cancer and HPV vaccines respectively, whereas 67.8% of parents were willing to pay for the cancer-preventing HPV vaccines out-of-pocket. There was no statistically significant associations between parental level of education (P = 0.056), parental knowledge of cancer of cervix (P = 0.483), religion of parents (P = 0.324) and the acceptance of HPV vaccination for their children. There was a statistically significant association between parental willingness to pay for HPV vaccines if not offered free (P = 0.001) with acceptance of vaccination. Vaccine acceptability was associated with positive attitude towards the vaccine (odds ratio [OR] = 4.178; 95% CI, 1.714-10.180; P = 0.002), whereas parental knowledge of HPV, cervical cancer and HPV vaccine did not show significant association with acceptability of HPV vaccination for their children. Despite poor parental knowledge of HPV infection and cervical cancer, there was high acceptability of HPV vaccination for their children. HPV vaccination was acceptable to parents regardless of educational level or religion. Parents in Jos communities seems to have much faith in preventive vaccines as advertised by the health authorities. Accordingly, efforts should be geared towards ensuring availability, affordability and the provision of basic information regarding HPV vaccination in Northern Nigeria.

Prevalence and Perception of HPV Vaccination Among Health Science Students in Saudi Arabia.

This study was carried out to assess the prevalence and perception of human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccination in health science students in Majmaah University, Saudi Arabia. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at different health science colleges of Majmaah University on female students. The knowledge of the participants regarding HPV was assessed using a pre-tested questionnaire. The history of vaccination of these female participants was also enquired. More than three-fifth of the participants had heard about HPV. Of these, 83 participants, 59 (71.1%), were aware that it is a disease of women and how to diagnose it. Most participants (86.7%) knew that it can cause cervical cancer, while only 57.8% knew it could be asymptomatic. There were 18% of such participants who thought that HPV and human immunodeficiency virus are the same and that there is no vaccine for the prevention of HPV. Only 14.5% (n = 12) were vaccinated against HPV. A clear gap between knowledge and practice of HPV vaccination was observed, and health education should be planned to educate health professionals to avoid misconceptions.

The receipt of the human papillomavirus vaccine’s influence on future human papillomavirus vaccine recommendations by medical and dental students

BackgroundWith a growing vaccine-hesitant population and with the increase in oral cancers, particularly in a younger population, there is a heightened need for dental and medical providers to advocate for vaccination, including the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. This study aimed to assess HPV vaccine knowledge, personal immunization status, and attitudes and opinions of dental students (DSs) and medical students (MSs). MethodsStudents from 1 medical and 4 dental schools in the United States completed an anonymous online survey assessing knowledge and attitudes and opinions about the HPV vaccine, including personal HPV vaccine status and confidence in vaccine counseling. ResultsSeventy percent of the 453 students who completed the survey were vaccinated for HPV. Male students were significantly less likely to have received the HPV vaccine (odds ratio [OR], 0.37; 95% CI, 0.24 to 0.56). MSs were 1.75 times more likely to have received the HPV vaccine than DSs (95% CI, 1.16 to 2.63). Those who were vaccinated and those who were not vaccinated substantially differed in opinions and knowledge of the HPV vaccine. Vaccinated students were more than 5 times more likely to report they would recommend HPV vaccines to friends and family (OR, 5.22; 95% CI, 2.57 to 10.87), recommend HPV vaccines to patients (OR, 2.71; 95% CI, 1.39 to 5.26), and advocate for HPV vaccines (OR, 2.42; 95% CI, 1.24 to 4.70). In the linear regression model, age (P = .0204 and P < .00003), profession (P < .00001), and HPV vaccination status (P < .00001) predicted HPV knowledge. ConclusionsThese findings show that MSs are more likely to be vaccinated. In addition, HPV-vaccinated people had better knowledge, attitudes, and opinions than those who were not vaccinated. Receipt of the HPV vaccine increased advocacy for the vaccine. Educating these professionals about the efficacy and impact of the HPV vaccine could increase their advocacy for the vaccine.

Knowledge of HPV and HPV Vaccination among Polish Students from Medical and Non-Medical Universities.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted infection that can cause both benign and malignant lesions. HPV vaccines, preferably administered before the onset of sexual activity, have demonstrated remarkable efficacy in preventing HPV-related cancers. The impact of a healthcare provider's recommendation on HPV vaccine acceptance is substantial. Therefore, medical students must undergo thorough training in this domain. This study compares fundamental understanding and viewpoints regarding HPV and anti-HPV vaccines among Polish students pursuing medical and non-medical sciences. This study was based on the authors' questionnaire, and the results were statistically analyzed. The participants in this study were 1025 students (medical sciences students-520 respondents in total; and non-medical sciences students-505 respondents in total). According to the results, medical students' knowledge about the consequences of HPV infection and vaccination against HPV was significantly greater. To date, numerous publications have investigated the understanding of particular social, gender, parental, etc., groups about vaccination, but the knowledge of students at different universities-medical and other-has not been compared. Social awareness is still insufficient, even in groups of medical students. There is much to be done to educate and encourage preventive behavior in those not receiving primary prevention in early childhood.

Abstract C140: A population-based analysis of awareness and knowledge of HPV and HPV vaccine among Asian American adults by origin group, 2014-2019

Abstract Background: Awareness and knowledge of human papillomavirus (HPV) and HPV vaccine are critical antecedents of HPV vaccine uptake. While emerging literature has examined racial and ethnic differences in these areas, most either exclude Asian Americans, subsume them under the category of “other,” or aggregate all origin groups under a single category of “Asians.” To fill this gap in the literature regarding data disaggregation, we conducted an analysis of awareness and knowledge of HPV, the HPV vaccine, and HPV-related cancers among six Asian origin groups (Chinese, Filipinos, Indians, Japanese, Koreans, and Vietnamese), using nationally representative samples. Methods: We performed a pooled cross-sectional study utilizing the Health Information National Trend Survey data (HINTS-4 cycle 4 [2014], HINTS-5 cycles 1-3 [2017-2019]), a nationally representative survey administered by the National Cancer Institute. We analyzed questions about knowledge of HPV, the HPV vaccine, and the facts that HPV causes cervical, oral, anal, and penile cancers by race and/or ethnicity. The sample included those who self-reported as Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Japanese, Korean, or Vietnamese origins; non-Hispanic White (NHW) respondents were the reference group. We used survey-design adjusted Wald chi-square tests. Results: A total of 8,865 non-Hispanic White respondents and 623 Asian respondents were included in this study. Significantly lower proportions of most Asian origin groups (Chinese 45.5%; Indian 45.6%; Korean 39.7%; and Vietnamese 43.5%) had heard of HPV compared with NHW counterparts (69.4%). Significantly lower proportions of Chinese (50.9%), Filipino (47.0%) Korean (46.1%), and Vietnamese (38.8%) respondents had heard of the HPV vaccine compared with NHW respondents (68.1%). Significantly lower proportions of Chinese (41.0%), Indian (36.2%), Korean (32.9%), and Vietnamese (30.6%) respondents knew that HPV causes cervical cancer compared with NHW (55.7%). Significantly lower proportions of Chinese and Vietnamese respondents knew that HPV causes anal and oral cancers, and significantly lower proportions of Indian respondents knew that HPV causes penile cancer, when compared to NHW counterparts. Discussion: Most Asian origin groups had lower knowledge of HPV-related facts, with varying magnitudes, compared with NHW counterparts. Vietnamese and Chinese respondents had significantly lower knowledge compared with NHW respondents for 5 out of 6 questions. For most questions, Vietnamese was the group with the lowest proportions of respondents reporting knowledge. Heterogeneity in HPV-related knowledge suggests the need to culturally tailor interventions about the HPV vaccine in appropriate languages to effectively reach different Asian origin groups, with particular attention to those with low awareness. Continued monitoring of HPV-related knowledge with disaggregated data collection for Asian origin groups is critical for efforts to increase educational outreach, combat vaccine misinformation, and improve HPV vaccine uptake. Abstract PR008: Human papillomavirus vaccination knowledge, health beliefs, recommendation receipt, and intentions among unvaccinated Spanish-speaking young adult Hispanic/Latino sexual minority men

Abstract Sexual minority men are at increased risk for human papillomavirus (HPV) infections and subsequent HPV-related health concerns, including anal cancer. HPV vaccination remains an underutilized prevention strategy among sexual minority men, including Hispanic/Latino (H/L) individuals. As part of a mixed methods project, we conducted a cross-sectional survey among Spanish-speaking H/L sexual minority men ages 18-26 to characterize awareness, knowledge, health beliefs, provider recommendation, and HPV vaccine intentions. Multiple in-person and social media strategies were used to recruit participants who self-identified as having had sex with a man and/or being attracted to men and were of H/L ethnicity; able to read, write, and understand Spanish; aged 18-26 years; living in either Florida or Puerto Rico; and with internet access. Data were collected between August 2021-August 2022 using an online survey. Following data cleaning, descriptive analyses using SAS focused on unvaccinated participants (n=102). Results indicated that most participants (86%) were living in Puerto Rico and self-identified as gay (84%). Fifty-six percent reported having heard of the HPV vaccine. Only 19% reported having received a provider recommendation for the HPV vaccine, and less than one-quarter (21%) reported strongly agreeing that people important to them would want them to receive the HPV vaccine. Most individuals (69%) correctly identified that HPV can cause genital warts. However, over half responded either incorrectly or ”do not know” to questions regarding the link between HPV and anal (54%), oral (61%), or penile (65%) cancers. Over half of participants (56%) responded incorrectly or “do not know” to an item about whether most sexually active individuals are at risk for being infected with HPV. Twenty percent responded incorrectly or “do not know” to an item assessing whether men can be infected with HPV. Regarding comparative risk, 28% reported believing themselves to be at average risk for HPV compared to people their age, whereas 14% and 27% reported being at below average risk and at much below average risk, respectively. Most participants (56%) reported they were either not at all or only a little concerned with the safety of the HPV vaccine; however, 25% responded they were very or extremely concerned. Participants reported positive attitudes toward the efficacy of the HPV vaccine in preventing genital warts, penile cancer, and anal cancer. Further, the majority (69%) indicated strongly agreeing or agreeing with an item that assessed their perceived ability to make an appointment to receive the HPV vaccine. Regarding intentions, only 12% reported being very likely to receive the HPV vaccine in the next year, whereas 30% reported being very likely to receive the vaccine at some point in the future. Findings suggest numerous potential malleable targets for future interventions to promote HPV vaccination among H/L young adult sexual minority men, including prompting provider recommendations and addressing patient education needs and health beliefs. Abstract C101: Development of an educational text messaging program to improve human papillomavirus awareness, knowledge, and vaccination intention among Korean young adults in the U.S.

Abstract Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the U.S. Cervical cancer (CC) is the most common HPV-associated cancer, and Korean Americans (KAs) experience one of the highest CC incidence and mortality rates among Asian Americans. Awareness and knowledge of HPV and HPV vaccine are essential in preventing HPV-associated cancers; however, studies emphasize low HPV awareness and knowledge among KAs. Although HPV causes cancers in both men and women, there exist misconceptions that the HPV vaccine is only for women and not for men. Furthermore, research on HPV vaccination among KAs has been conducted mostly among women. The health belief model (HBM) is a value-expectancy theory that is used to explain and predict individual changes in health behaviors and has been used in multiple studies that aimed to understand HPV vaccination behavior. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop an HBM guided text messaging program to increase HPV awareness, knowledge, and HPV vaccination among Korean young adults in the U.S. Methods: A total of 10 Korean young adults between the ages of 18 and 26 completed the mixed methods study. The survey examined HPV, HPV vaccine, and cervical cancer awareness and knowledge, beliefs, and vaccination intention. The qualitative interview with cognitive response testing (CRT) of the text messages, which were preconstructed based on previous literature and six constructs of HBM, allowed participants to provide feedback on the comprehension and emotional response to the messages, and any other recommendations to improve the content and delivery of the messages. Results: All participants (N=10) indicated to have never received the HPV vaccine and most participants had no intention to receive the HPV vaccine within one year. Although most of the participants were aware of HPV and HPV vaccine, overall knowledge of HPV, HPV vaccine, and cervical cancer were low. The interviews revealed that reasons for vaccine hesitancy and non-vaccination included cost, inconvenience, and low perceived susceptibility. Especially, there was low perception of the importance of HPV vaccination for males. Overall, findings from the CRT showed that there was a clear understanding of the preconstructed text messages. There was a consensus on the duration and timing of the messages and participants provided recommendations on the content, tone, and structure of the messages. Using the HBM, participants’ feedback on HPV awareness, knowledge, and vaccination intention, the text messaging library was revised and includes a total of 9 text messages over the four days. Conclusions: This study provides important insights into the development of an educational text messaging program among Korean young adults in the U.S. Current study will build a foundation for an educational mobile health program to help increase awareness and knowledge of HPV and HPV-associated cancers, as well as HPV vaccination intention, and impact HPV-associated cancer rates among KAs through vaccination in the long term. Abstract A036: The role of multisectoral partnerships in the dissemination of HPV vaccination campaigns in Puerto Rico

Abstract INTRODUCTION: The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide. Despite the availability of an effective vaccine, HPV vaccination uptake is suboptimal in Puerto Rico (PR). Knowledge and understanding of the benefits of HPV vaccination can influence the intention to vaccinate. The Puerto Rico Community Cancer Control Outreach Program (PRCCCOP) and our network of multisectoral partners disseminated an HPV vaccination educational campaign tailored to promote HPV vaccination among kids and adolescents aged 9-26. OBJECTIVE: To effectively disseminate Human Papillomavirus (HPV) prevention educational campaigns through a network of multisectoral collaborators to increase HPV vaccination uptake in PR. METHODS: The PRCCCOP trained collaborators on basic HPV, HPV-caused cancers, and HPV vaccine knowledge and the use of educational materials. Collaborators distributed educational materials to their clientele who visited in person, participated in sponsored events, and accessed their virtual platforms or via email. In addition to printable educational materials, PRCCOP public service announcement videos about HPV vaccination were transmitted at our participating Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC). The PRCCOP provided all collaborators with continued training, assistance, and educational materials. RESULTS: Our program impacted 65 municipalities (83.3% of the island). Electronic and printed versions of our educational materials were disseminated in 40 clinics and vaccination centers across the island, including all 22 FQHCs in Puerto Rico (PR). Over 2,000 people were reached via in-person events and health fairs. Additionally, 18 workshops were imparted in clinical and academic settings. CONCLUSION: Community outreach can be an expensive and labor-intensive task. By establishing partnerships and sharing resources, the PRCCCOP has lowered costs while widely disseminating its educational campaigns and expanding its network outside the traditional academic/health services arena. Collaborating with multisectoral organizations allowed us to increase our presence throughout the island, diversify the types of dissemination mediums, and reach vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations. HPV Vaccine Knowledge and Hesitancy Among Health Colleges' Students at a Saudi University.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a widespread sexually transmitted infection linked to various types of cancer. Although vaccination against HPV is available, global HPV vaccination rates remain low. This study aimed to evaluate the awareness and knowledge of the HPV vaccine and to identify predictors associated with vaccine hesitancy among health college students at King Saud University, Saudi Arabia. A cross-sectional survey was distributed during December 2022 to students enrolled in health colleges. The survey link was randomly distributed via social media platforms and in-person interactions. The number of participants was 405 including both males and females. The data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The correct response rate for all knowledge items was calculated, and they were stratified by gender and college. The association of vaccine hesitancy with sociodemographic characteristics was examined using logistic regression analysis. The study found that approximately half of the students (49.9%) were aware of the HPV vaccine. However, only a small percentage of students answered all to all HPV knowledge items correctly. Additionally, only a small proportion (5.2%) reported receiving the vaccine. The overall HPV vaccine hesitancy was 59.1% (43.9% for female and 75.9% for male). The most common reasons for vaccine hesitancy was not knowing enough about it. Males were two times more likely than females to believe that they did not need the HPV vaccine. The odds for HPV vaccine hesitancy were greater among males and younger age groups compared to females and older age groups. This study underscores the importance of implementing university-wide interventions and educational campaigns to enhance awareness and knowledge of the HPV vaccine.
