Emergency situations require immediate action, as indicated by data from the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) showing a significant increase in injury rates in Indonesia, including West Kalimantan. Injuries are most common among individuals aged 15-24, with various types such as abrasions, cuts, sprains, and fractures. This research aimed to investigate students' knowledge of first aid measures at Mujahidin High School in Pontianak, with the hope of improving their understanding and preparedness in handling accidents in the school environment effectively. This study used a quantitative descriptive-analytic method with stratified random sampling, involving 245 students from grades X and XI. Data were collected through a questionnaire about first aid actions. The results showed that 47% of respondents had adequate first aid knowledge, 46% had good knowledge, and 7% had poor knowledge. In conclusion, the majority of students at SMA Mujahidin Pontianak have adequate knowledge of first aid.

Knowledge of First Aid Measures in Dental Trauma: A Survey of Teachers in the Province of Seville, Spain.

The high incidence of childhood dental trauma requires childcare professionals to have basic notions of dental first aid. The aim of this study is to assess the level of knowledge and aptitude (defined as the ability to operate competently in a given activity) of early childhood, primary, and/or secondary education teachers from Seville (Spain) referred to first aid measures in dental trauma. A descriptive study was conducted. The study sample consisted of 442 teachers (334 women and 108 men) coinciding proportionately with the study target population in terms of gender distribution, type of center, and teaching level. A specifically designed questionnaire was used. Most of the participants (88.5%, n = 391) exhibited poor knowledge and aptitude, 11.5% (n = 51) showed a medium level of knowledge and aptitude, and none were categorized as having a high knowledge and aptitude. As a conclusion, teachers in the province of Seville (Spain) showed marked deficiencies in their level of knowledge and aptitude referred to the adoption of first aid measures in dental trauma among their pupils.

Knowledge of first aid measures and associated factors among governmental primary school teachers in Hawassa city, Southern Ethiopia

Background: Most of the time primary school children experience minor injuries and they always need first aid care to prevent conditions become worse and school teachers are the nearest ones to manage their minor injuries. Lack of knowledge and skills of their teachers may lead to serious health consequences. Acquiring the basic knowledge and skills of first aid can be vital for teachers to be able to provide proper emergency pre-hospital care in the event of an accident to save life and prevent avoidable consequences. The aim of this study was to assess knowledge on first aid measure and its associated factors among governmental primary school teachers in Hawassa city, southern Ethiopia. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was conducted from February 4-22, 2021. Data were obtained from 213 primary school teachers selected by simple random sampling technique from eight schools using a self-administered questionnaire. Epi Info 3.5.4 was a data entry software and SPSS version 20.0 was selected for analysis. Associations among variables were assessed by binary logistic regression. Result: A small proportion of 52 (23.2%) of teachers were knowledgeable (95% CI 17.9-28.6) about first aid measures. Only 57 (21.4%) teachers had received first aid training previously. One-fourth of 56 (25%) of the respondents gave accurate responses for the need for priority for obstructed airway and only nine (4%) teachers knew the 7 essential step of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Level of education AOR = 2.866 (95% CI 1.386, 5.925) and previous first aid training AOR = 7.216 (95% CI 3.437, 15.153) were statistically significant protective associated factors with teachers’ knowledge on first aid measures. Conclusion: A great proportion of 172 (76.8%) of primary school teachers were unknowledgeable about first aid measures which were higher compared to reports from several studies. This needs exceptional attention to train teachers periodically on first aid procedures to equip them to perform effective first aid measures to treat the common emergencies of children at school. Knowledge and Sociodemographic Determinants of Emergency Management of Dental Avulsion among Parents in Kuwait: A Cross-Sectional Study

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of first aid measures for a permanent tooth avulsion among parents in Kuwait and to assess the effect of different sociodemographic characteristics. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 554 parents who visited 5 dental specialty centers in Kuwait. Parent sociodemographic data and responses to avulsion management questions were collected through a self-administered questionnaire. Descriptive and binary logistic regression analyses were used for data analysis. Results: In the 554 responses from patients, gaps were identified in the following areas: replantation (199, 35.9%), cleaning of the tooth (182, 32.9%), and transport media (84, 15.2%). Most parents demonstrated satisfactory knowledge levels regarding the urgency to seek professional help (391, 70.6%) and the first place of contact after the injury (525, 94.8%). Having previous information on emergency management of dental avulsion was a significant predictor of good knowledge (OR 2.138, 95% CI 1.347-3.395, p = 0.001). Of the 544 parents, 99 (17.8%) had received information on dental avulsion management: 30 (30.3%) from the Internet, 19 (19.2%) from books, 12 (12.1%) from television, 6 (6%) from smart phone applications, 2 (2%) from newspapers, and 30 (30.3%) from other sources. Conclusion: In this study, parents in Kuwait did not have adequate knowledge of emergency management for dental avulsion. Future educational campaigns on dental avulsion are urgently needed to educate parents.

Knowledge of first aid measures of avulsion and replantation of teeth in Nigerian school children.

The aim of this study was to assess the present knowledge level of tooth avulsion in Nigerian school children. A 12-stemmed questionnaire was distributed to 495 Nigerian school children ( 228 boys, 267 girls) aged 7 � 15 year-old in Ife Central Local Government, Ile-Ife, Nigeria in February 2008 to score several areas of knowledge about tooth avulsion and replantation. The results of this study showed that 39.2% of the children had experienced dental trauma in the past, 62.8% had never received information on first-aid on dental trauma. More than half of the participants 51.5% reported that an avulsed tooth would be left on the ground, 38.2% would throw it on top of the roof and 17.8% would replant. Overall assessment of the children showed a low level of knowledge regarding tooth avulsion and replantation principle. Cultural belief of throwing a knock out or exfoliated tooth on the roof had influence on the children. There is need for comprehensive dental educational programmes and oral health promotions amongst Nigerian school children to improve their knowledge on tooth avulsion and replantation.

Kuwaiti Parents’ Knowledge of First-Aid Measures of Avulsion and Replantation of Teeth

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge level of emergency measures for tooth avulsion among Kuwaiti parents. Subjects and Methods: Sixty-three parents completed an Arabic language questionnaire about their first-aid knowledge. The following fields of knowledge were assessed: general body injury treatment principles, tooth avulsion and replantation principles, avulsed permanent/primary teeth, cleaning of an avulsed tooth before replantation, extra-alveolar time and storage media. For each category, a score ranging from 0 to 3 was possible. Results: Experience of first-aid information or training was seen in 12 (19%) except for dental injuries, which had not been included in such first-aid information. Knowledge was demonstrated in 52 (82%) about first aid of minor body injuries, yet the knowledge of how to manage avulsed teeth was poor, as 50–54 (79–86%) parents had no knowledge of how to manage an avulsed tooth in the specific modes of treatment measured. There was no difference in knowledge between mothers and fathers, young or old, nor was knowledge greater in parents with an academic education. Conclusion: First-aid knowledge in Kuwaiti parents is lacking for avulsion and replantation of teeth despite a high level of knowledge of how to manage simple body injuries. Knowledge of first-aid measures regarding avulsion and replantation of teeth should be increased by intervention programs.

First aid treatment of epistaxis--are the patients well informed?

To investigate the level of lay knowledge of first aid measures for epistaxis, and to determine the effectiveness of an ENT department policy of providing an advice sheet of first aid measures. 50 patients presenting with epistaxis were questioned on the accuracy and level of their knowledge of the four basic procedures used to combat a nose-bleed. The results were correlated with the source of referral, previous treatment, and advice. A large proportion of patients who had previously been treated for epistaxis by their general practitioners and other non-ENT trained medical or nursing staff were unable to recall being given any first aid advice. For those who remembered being given advice, very few described all the steps correctly. In contrast, patients who had previously been seen by the ENT staff scored full points in every aspect. The results are a reflection of the departmental policy of supplying information sheets outlining the first aid measures to all patients presenting with epistaxis.
