Semiotic analysis of Korean Wave: Journalistic practices and global impact

Background: Reportage deviations are trying to be built in drama Find Me in Your Memory. Understand the codes that show reportage deviations and the purpose of their distribution through the scenes in the drama. Purpose: This article will become a provision for the community to implement and pay more attention to the journalistic code of ethics when contributing to news reporting. Methods: The method used in this research is a content analysis by observing the scenes displaying reportage deviations in the drama Find Me in Your Memory scenes. Results: The collected data was then analyzed based on John Fiske’s semiotic theory, namely the Three Levels of Television Codes and the South Korean Journalistic Code of Ethics as indicators to identify reporting deviations. Secondary data in this study was obtained through a literature study to obtain relevant theories and data that can be used to answer the formulation of the problem. Conclusion: Various violations of the Journalistic Code of Ethics were found in several scenes showing news reporting practices. Implications: So this research suggests deviations in the news reporting shown in several scenes in this serial drama. This also deviates from one of the South Korean journalistic code of ethics points, which requires journalists always to report news objectively.

The Meaning of Media Independence by Journalists in the 2024 Election

The 2024 Presidential Election is a political event that the public has been waiting for. At that time, the public can exercise their political rights to elect government leaders for the next five years. Seeing such great public attention, the mass media will place the 2024 General Election and Presidential Election as one of the main portions of the news. However, like the 2014 and 2019 Presidential Elections and Elections, it is suspected that it will be difficult for the mass media to stand in a neutral position. Mass media, especially television stations, are owned by entrepreneurs who are affiliated with political parties and support the 2024 presidential and vice presidential candidates.This research aims to explain the meaning of television journalists regarding media independence ahead of the 2024 general election and presidential election. This research uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological research method to understand the construction meaning of journalists. The object of this research is the meaning of television journalists regarding media independence ahead of the 2024 general election and presidential election. The research subjects were television journalists from two media groups, MNC Group and Media Group, who were selected purposively. The research data was analyzed using media political economy theory. Findings from the research show differences in the subjective meaning of media independence among television journalists. Although they agree on the urgency of media independence as a guardian of press freedom, differences of opinion arise especially regarding the role of media owners in editorial policy. Some journalists consider the intervention of media owners to be acceptable, while others consider it a violation of the journalistic code of ethics. Different views are also seen in terms of implementing media independence. Some see media independence as the freedom for the media to support political parties or presidential candidates that are in line with the editorial views. On the other hand, there are journalists who believe that media independence should be realized through a neutral and unbiased attitude

This research is motivated by problems in implementing the photojournalism code of ethics. The aim of this research is to find out how the photojournalism code of ethics is applied to accident news on Tribunjambi.com. The research approach that researchers use is a qualitative approach with content analysis. Qualitative research is research used to examine the condition of natural objects where the researcher is the core instrument. The types of data used in this research are primary data and secondary data with data collection through documentation, observation and interviews. Apart from that, data analysis techniques use data reduction, data presentation and data verification and are continued by checking the validity of the data. The purpose of the study was to determine the use of clickbait in news titles in Tribun Padang's online media without violating the journalistic code of ethics but being able to attract audiences to read the news presented by Tribun Padang's online media. The data is in the form of title sentences that publish certain criteria that are appropriate to the reasearch problem. This reasearch uses mass communication theory. The research method uses descriptive qualitative research with a case study type of research. Data was collected by interviewing sources. Data analysis uses collection, data reduction, data presentation, verification and drawing conclusions. The results of this research show that in general the use of clickbait titles is wideley uses on the subjects of celebrities, lifestyle, entertainment, health and others. The use of clickbait provides benefits to the media throughtthe number of visitor or reader traffic. The reader’s response is positive because it matches the reader’s expectations when clicking on the news title that uses the clickbait. The main purpose of using clickbait titles is to increase reader visits.

This research focuses on the lack of application of the journalistic code of ethics at Kompas TV Riau, especially on the YouTube platform. The goal is to analyze the implementation of the code of ethics in the practice of journalists. The benefits include theoretical, practical, and academic contributions in understanding journalistic ethics at Kompas TV Riau as well as a reference for future research.The research used descriptive qualitative methods with the location at Kompas TV Riau Office. Informants were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and literature study. Data analysis used Miles and Huberman techniques. Data validity was verified through source triangulation to ensure its validity and reliability.Based on interviews with Kompas TV Riau informants, the station applies the motto "Independent and Trustworthy" consistently in journalistic tasks. This commitment is reflected in all aspects of the work, from the selection of sources to the editing process. The importance of complying with the journalistic code of ethics emphasizes awareness of social responsibility and moral principles in presenting accurate and objective information.This research successfully evaluated Journalistic Ethics towards Visual Communication Videography at Kompas TV Pekanbaru. Interviews with the editor-in-chief, coordinators, reporters, and editors showed a commitment to independence and accuracy of information. Kompas TV Riau complies with the journalistic code of ethics, maintains integrity, and builds public trust in the information conveyed through visual videography communication.

This study discusses the application of a journalistic code of ethics in the context of reporting on the online media panturapost.com. In the digital era, online media has become the main source of information for the community. However, with technological developments and intense competition, the journalistic code of ethics is often neglected. This study aims to analyze how the journalistic code of ethics articles 3, 4 and 5 are applied in online media reporting at panturapost.com. This study uses a qualitative research method with a case study approach. This study focuses on examining the application of a code of ethics in several aspects such as editorial policy, news production practices from planning to news loading, journalists' understanding of the code of ethics, to analyzing criminal news content published in panturpost. .com. The results of the study show that the implementation of the journalistic code of ethics in the online media panturapost.com has been implemented. Other results show that panturapost.com in the news production process has quite strict stages to make news worthy of broadcast according to the principles of the journalistic code of ethics.

News Editorial Strategy from Social Media as Online Media

Online media continues to experience development both in terms of management to news content. This condition occurs along with the massive use of social media so that mass media often makes it one of the initial references in making a journalistic product. The purpose of the study was to determine the strategy of detikcom detikSulsel channel in presenting viral news that references from social media so that the public avoid hoaxes. This study used descriptive qualitative method. In this case, researchers interpret and explain the data obtained from interviews, observations, and documentation, so as to get detailed and clear answers to problems. The results of the study found that detikcom editors of detikSulsel channel apply standards and strategies in presenting viral news from social media. detikcom media emphasizes professionalism and the Code of Journalistic Ethics in making news whose references are taken from social media. Among them, detikcom media is required to verify and interview if news references are taken from viral events from social media.

Citizen journalism gatekeeping process: An evaluation of conceptual framework for computer mediated communication (CMC) hoax interactivity

<p>Compliance with the Journalistic Code of Ethics (KEJ) is very important and mandatory for journalistic workers. Nowadays, we often encounter journalistic works that are unethical and tend to be very unethical, thus making the connoisseurs of journalistic works uncomfortable with them. This phenomenon can be found on the New Media news portal which spreads various kinds of hoax information. Freedom in the use of New Media is one of the reasons why hoaxes usually appear in New Media, because those who inform news are not only from the journalist profession. While a journalist will pay attention to the Journalistic Code of Ethics (KEJ). In addition, there is no official institution that functions to control and supervise the dissemination of information in New Media. Unlike the case with the mass media which is always monitored by KPI as the Gatekeeper of broadcasting in Indonesia. So that it can filter out various information that is not worthy of appearing in the circulation of journalistic work connoisseurs. Therefore, those who play an important role in New Media to be able to filter all circulating information or in other words who become Gatekeepers are connoisseurs of journalistic work themselves. So that later journalistic connoisseurs will not be consumed by hoaxes and not spread hoaxes. So that the existence of this phenomenon makes researchers interested in studying it more deeply about it. This study uses qualitative methods, data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation, and the validity of the data using time and source triangulation.</p>

The Ethical Experience of Online Journalists in Avoiding Trial by the Press

Trial by the press is an ethically prohibited practice in journalism activities in Indonesia. However, it still occurs in various online media, meaning that there is something wrong with the ethical actions of online media journalists. This research aims to reveal the ethical experiences of online media journalists in avoiding trial by the press. This research method uses a phenomenological approach by conducting interviews with five online media journalists and a literature study of regulatory trials by the press in Indonesia. The results show that trial by the press has been institutionally regulated to be avoided by journalists, especially in Law 40/1999, Journalistic Code of Ethics from the Press Council, PWI, and AJI. However, journalistic ethical principles in institutional regulations are no longer compatible with the working mechanisms of online media, thus creating a dilemma for online media journalists to choose between the two. However, online media journalists do not view institutional regulations and online media working mechanisms as dualism in the practice of online journalism. Their experience in elaborating institutional regulations and online media working mechanisms can minimize the occurrence of trials by the press. We concluded that contextual and situational elaboration of institutional regulations and working mechanisms of online media can produce an authentic meaning for journalists to avoid trial by the press in online media.

Public Interest Law in Criminal Code Article 310(3) as the Basis to Eliminate Crime in Journalism

In the Republic of Indonesia, legal norms and rules prioritize the public interest over state, group, and individual interests. Article 310 paragraph (3) of the Criminal Code allows for the removal of offenses committed in the public interest. However, using the public interest as a justification for press activities can lead to controversy due to unreliable or false news sources. Law No. 40 of 1999 concerning the Press, and the Press Council, an independent regulatory body established in 1966, protect press freedom and regulate the press according to the Journalistic Code of Ethics. However, due to perceived inadequacies, press violations are often resolved through press releases rather than relying on the Code as a legal basis. A normative legal research method was used to analyze the relationship between the Criminal Code and the Press Law, revealing that press freedom is a fundamental human right protected by the Constitution. The Press Law functions as a Lex specialis of the Criminal Code, addressing issues such as defamation, insults, and ridicule, and resolving disputes within the press while prioritizing the public interest over government interests.

DAKWAH JURNALIS TRIBUN JABAR: STUDI KOMUNIKASI PROFETIK

The characteristics of the Prophet and Apostle include shiddiq (true), amanah (trustworthy), tabligh (adjusting according to facts), and fathanah (according to the rules of the press or journalistic code of ethics). These four characteristics are part of prophetic communication that needs to be implemented by a journalist. This is necessary for a reporter or journalist in journalistic activities to have a reference for making reports that are correct, reliable, based on facts, and in accordance with the journalistic code of ethics. The research method used is a qualitative method with a case study approach. By conducting observations and in-depth interviews with research subjects determined purposively. Research with a qualitative approach uses phenomenological methods and interpretative paradigms. This paradigm sees the truth of social reality as having different results, depending on the social actors. Through the constructivism paradigm, researchers want to know how subjects perceive a phenomenon of prophetic journalism in their daily lives so that it can be interpreted and explained by research subjects according to their understanding of their respective applications. This research shows that the West Java Tribune has implemented prophetic journalism in producing news, although not yet comprehensively, but at least journalists at the West Java Tribune have implemented the 4 morals of the Prophet and Apostle in their journalistic activities in the field. The implementation of Siddiq's morals in journalistic activities at the West Java Tribune is that there "adheres to journalistic ethics and one of them is how to be precise, accurate and trustworthy. Implementation of morals of trust in journalistic activities at the West Java Tribune "One of the points in journalistic ethics is that we must convey valid information, information that can truly be confirmed. Implementation of tabligh morals in journalistic activities at the West Java Tribune "the news we convey is always based on facts and data available in the field, for example, there was an accident involving one or two motorbikes, so that is conveyed according to the facts in the field and the implementation of fathanah morals in journalistic activities in West Java Tribune "So in the process of making news we cannot make news that is not based on existing facts, neither exaggerated nor reduced. Clickbait as a Potential Threat in the Development of Cybercrime in Indonesia

<p><em>This research examines the advancement and extensive diffusion of online news in Indonesia which contains discrepancies between the titles displayed and the content displayed (clickbait), where the content has the potential to contain backlinks that can carry a cybercrime. The purpose of this research is to assess the potential of clickbait in threatening the development of cybercrime in Indonesia, as well as to investigate the best legal regulations for eradicating clickbait in Indonesia. This research uses the normative legal research method followed by the interview method. The outcomes of this research point to the shift in news media from conventional to online making the target of online news journalists not only limited to reporting factual information but also pursuing a target audience of readers by using a clickbait title. The content of clickbait news that clearly does not match the title can deceive Indonesians, especially if accompanied by backlinks that actually spread many forms of cybercrime. In addition, it was found that there are no regulations in Indonesia that prohibit the dissemination of online news with clickbait, be it in the Press Law, ITE Law, Journalistic Code of Ethics, Cyber Media Reporting Guidelines, and the Criminal Code, which can be overcome by revising the ITE Law by adding related prohibitions in Article 28.</em></p>

Application of Article 3 of the Journalistic Code of Ethics in the News Case "The Child of a Tax Officer Becomes the Perpetrator" on the Online Media Platform Jawapos.Com 24 February 2023 Edition March 05, 2023

This research is based on observations of several news articles. In order to find out more about the application of the journalistic code of ethics in the news, especially in article 3, the author wrote in a news story "Children of Tax Officials Become Perpetrators of Persecution" on the online media platform JawaPos.com edition 24 February 2023- 05 March 2023. Descriptive qualitative methods will be used in this research. The author will make observations and analysis on the news "Tax Official's Children Become Perpetrators of Persecution" on the online media platform JawaPos.com. This research analyzes the application of article 3 of the journalistic code of ethics which is divided into four interpretations. The results of this research show that there is application of article 3 of the journalistic code of ethics in every news published in accordance with the edition of 24 February 2023- 05 March 2023.

The Implementation of the Presumption of Innocence in Law Enforcement Coverage by the Mass Media

The application of the presumption of innocence in the press has long been a subject of attention and debate, both within the legal community and among journalists themselves. However, until now, the debate has not reached a consensus. Debates have started to arise regarding how the provisions in the Constitution (1945 Constitution) should be interpreted regarding applying the presumption of innocence in the press field. The debate continues to the level of analyzing how the legal regulations on the presumption of innocence should be applied in the field of press, and even the technical implementation in reporting. This paper utilizes normative legal research with a descriptive-analytical approach. Secondary data is sourced from legal regulations in the field of the press. Through qualitative analysis, the research yields the following results: Firstly, the presumption of innocence is incorporated into the Journalistic Code of Ethics with the hope that mass media, in their reporting, will not fall into the trap of "trial by the press," which involves reporting that tends to "judge" someone, violating the principles of a fair trial. Reporting that tends to express opinions on the guilt of a suspect not only violates the fundamental principles of the rule of law, namely judicial independence but also infringes upon an individual's human rights by diminishing their right to a legal defense.

Representasi Pelanggaran Kode Etik Jurnalistik pada Serial Drama Korea HUSH

<p class="Default"><em>The journalistic code of ethics, which is the heart of journalistic products and is a beacon in the world of journalism, is in fact still very vulnerable to being violated. This research aims to determine forms of violation of the journalistic code of ethics, not only based on the Indonesian journalistic code of ethics, but also using the journalistic code of ethics of South Korea, the country where this drama series originates. This research was conducted on the Korean drama series HUSH which aired in 2019 with 16 episodes. The author uses the Indonesian Press Council's journalistic code of ethics and the South Korean Press Code of Ethics to analyze the violations. Apart from that, the causes and consequences of violations of the journalistic code of ethics that occur can also be found. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with the Pierce model of semiotic approach. The research results showed that: (1) there were 5 cases that showed violations of the journalistic code of ethics. (2) the cause of the violation of the journalistic code of ethics was discovered, namely the existence of a special relationship between the high-ranking officials involved in the case and the leader of the Korean Daily, as well as considering that accepting bribes by people who work in the field of journalism is considered a normal thing.</em><em></em></p>

Analisis Pengelolaan Sumber Daya Manusia dalam Upaya Peningkatan Kualitas Kinerja Individu: Studi Kasus di Kantor PWI Sumut

Currently, with the rise of the media, the flow of information received by the public is different, professional journalists are an important pillar in informing the public. As a basis for action and improving the quality of life, human resource development has many things needed because it has important aspects in increasing productivity (Effendi and Sulistyorini, 2021). The purpose of this research is to find out the implementation of management and development of human resource management in the North Sumatra PWI organization. The research conducted by this writer uses a qualitative approach where the data is obtained without using numbers. The researcher chose a qualitative approach because it felt clearer and broader in the discussion. The use of a qualitative approach is intended to obtain original and natural data. This means that data is in accordance with the real situation and has deep meaning. PWI Sumut has carried out well the development of its human resources and encouraged its members to behave professionally in carrying out the profession as journalists through the training provided. Starting from the development of knowledge and skills, deepening the code of ethics, and competency tests which become formal development in the journalist profession. Satire Journalism: Semiotic Analysis of Pilpres 2024 Articles on Mojok.co"

This study aims to analyze the practice of satire journalism in Mojok.co through Charles S. Peirce's semiotic approach. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research. This research focuses on analyzing articles about the 2024 presidential election published in the essay section of Mojok.co. In this study, researchers explored how satire in this context uses signs and symbolic interpretations based on the semiotic theory applied. In addition, the researcher is also interested in knowing how the use of satire language style can affect readers' perceptions and understanding of the political issues presented. The results of this study conclude that Mojok.co sometimes violates the journalistic code of ethics in presenting satire content. This can reduce the integrity of journalism and lead to misunderstanding of the subject being criticized. However, this study also found that Mojok.co has the power to attract readers and raise political issues through its satire style. This research provides insight into how media can shape audience understanding and interpretation through the use of signs, objects and interpretants in the practice of satire journalism.

Analisis Penerapan Kode Etik Jurnalistik dalam Penulisan Berita Covid-19 di Headline Koran Harian Radar Madura Pamekasan

The analysis of the journalistic code of ethics is an effort to observe something in depth about the standard norms that must be used as a reference for juornalists in acting, acting, and behaving when carrying out their profession as journalist in writing news. In this study, the researcher discusses whether the print media Radar Madura Pamekasan applies the journalistic code of ethics contained in Law No. 40 of 1999 in writing the March – December 2020 Edition of Covid-19 news and how to apply the journalistic code of ethics in writing Covid-19 news in the headlines of the daily newspaper Radar Madura Pamekasan. The result of this research is that Jawa Pos Radar Madura, Pamekasan bureau, applies the journalistic code of ethics contained in Law No. 40 of 1999 Article I states that Indonesian Journalists have the right to refuse to protect sources who do not want to know their identity or whereabouts, respect the provisions of the embarg, backround information, and off the record in accordance with the agreement.
