Roles of NGOs and Local Government Units

This research delved into the critical roles played by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in supporting anti-poverty programs of Local Government Units (LGUs) in Barangay Pasil, Cebu City. It involved three NGOs that were selected based on their experience, collaboration agreements, and poverty-fighting program designs. Employing a qualitative approach, the experiences and perspectives of the participating NGOs were examined through semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis was then utilized to extract key themes from the rich qualitative data. The NGOs' profiles, programs, and strategies were explored, revealing their crucial roles in tackling the complex issues of poverty. The findings revealed that these NGOs provide significant contributions to community development, and were strongly dedicated to enhancing marginalized communities' well-being through varied missions, funding sources, and innovative programs. Furthermore, collaboration between the NGOs and LGUs supported governmental efforts, shaped local policies, and improved service provision, underscoring the value of strategic partnerships for sustainable development. The strategic sharing of resources underscored the importance of a unified approach in effectively addressing multifaceted community needs. Persistent collaboration and joint endeavors between NGOs and LGUs can help establish resilient, empowered communities, promoting inclusive development and a promising future for Pasil, Cebu City residents.

This essay is a recollection of my years of study at Moscow State University and the beginning of work at the Higher School of Economics, as well as a reflection on the current period and state of philosophy in Russia in general. The purpose of this essay is an attempt to reflect on one’s belonging to a certain generation of philosophers, comparing it with past and future generations, as well as an attempt to trace the successive thread of generations. Using the example of my own apprenticeship, as well as teaching, the distinctive features of each new stage in the formation of philosophy in Russia are shown. Based on personal experience, the similarities and differences between Russian and foreign practice of teaching philosophy, as well as working in the academy as a professional philosopher, are thought through. This research sought to understand the factors which contributed to successful teamwork at the elementary school under investigation. Additionally, this study investigated the changes in the ISEP-participating educators’ teaching approaches, methods, and techniques upon their completion of their studies with the ISEP Summer Institute. Data were collected from the structured interviews with the participating teachers and their students and observations of the school-based activities during in-class and extra-curricular instruction. The researchers used Saldaña’s (2013) thematic and value coding and Miles and Huberman (1984) memoing for data analysis. This research found that the teachers’ team embedded their newly acquired research experiences and pedagogic knowledge into their instruction. Joint endeavors of the project participants lead to higher interest and engagement in learning processes in this school’s student population as well as greater involvement of the schoolchildren, their families, and the surrounding community in the team-organized science-based educational events and activities.

Governance and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers in Malaysia

Protecting Indonesian migrant workers (IMWs) in Malaysia is a matter of great significance due to Indonesia's status as one of the primary source countries for migrant workers to Malaysia. Consequently, it necessitates the implementation of comprehensive governance measures by both nations. This paper aims to analyze the joint endeavors and collaborative frameworks established between governments of Indonesia and Malaysia. Additionally, it seeks to identify the network of policies and innovations enacted in both countries related to the protection and regulation of migrant workers. This research was enhanced through the utilization of NVivo qualitative analysis software. This article shows that efforts to protect IMWs in Malaysia involve many government institutions in both countries, especially at ministerial and departmental levels. The policies established between the two countries are also able to support the success of migrant protection, especially with the agreement between the two countries in the form of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU gave birth to innovation in digital-based migrant worker protection services, namely a "one channel system" as the only official mechanism for recruiting workers. However, at the implementation stage, this innovation has not gone well and necessitated a sincere effort from both countries in implementing it, especially Malaysia as the destination country.

Purpose: The purpose of this bibliometric study is to analyze, realize, and identify the scope of research on employee turnover, as well as to indicate the growth and development of this area of study as it appears in the Scopus database. The fundamental goal of this study is to undertake a thorough bibliometric review of research on the application, identification, network structure, and conceptual framework of employee turnover. Design/methodology/approach: After doing extensive research online, we located the best available articles. The studies used for the review were located using the Scopus database. From 1957 to 2023, a total of 2904 articles were located and whittled down to 1948 papers. With the aid of the R programming language and the VOS viewer software, we have analyzed each piece of writing from multiple angles, including authorship, citation, conceptual structure, co-word occurrence, trend topics analysis, thematic map, and visualization. Findings: A strategic thematic map was used to identify motor themes, basic transversal themes, specialty themes, and emerging and decreasing topics. The findings of the study revealed significant progress in the study of employee turnover during the previous 67 years of literature. This work also serves as a resource for researchers to use in the years to come. This research utilized relational methods such as co-word, co-author, co-citation analysis, bibliographic coupling, and thematic map analysis to identify new areas of inquiry. According to the relational method, "employee turnover" and "turnover intention" are key components that link to other commonly used phrases in the reviewed research. Originality: The interest of academics and businesspeople in studying the factors that contribute to employee turnover has led to a boom in this area of study during the past two decades. This research goes farther than previous efforts in evaluating the scientific development of articles in employee turnover, including a closer look at the individuals and methods used in the process. An annual growth rate of 7.25% was also found for researchers' joint, multi-author, and interdisciplinary endeavors. Overall, this research improves our knowledge of employee turnover and offers different insights. Social implications: It enlightens future scholars on the new topics, settings, and potential for interdisciplinary work in this field. It draws attention to the most pressing concerns in the field and points the way to promising avenues for future study. AbstractThe use of two‐dimensional images to teach students about three‐dimensional molecules continues to be a prevalent issue in many classrooms. As affordable visualization technologies continue to advance, there has been an increasing interest to utilize novel technology, such as augmented reality (AR), in the development of molecular visualization tools. Existing evaluations of these visual–spatial learning tools focus primarily on student performance and attitude, with little attention toward potential inequity in student participation. Our study adds to the current literature on introducing molecular visualization technology in biochemistry classrooms by examining the potential inequity in a group activity mediated by AR technology. Adapting the participatory equity framework to our specific context, we view equity and inequity in terms of access to the technological conversational floor, a social space created when people enter technology‐mediated joint endeavors. We explore three questions: What are the different ways students interact with an AR model of the potassium channel? What are salient patterns of participation that may signify inequity in classroom technology use? What is the interplay between group social dynamics and the introduction of AR technology in the context of a technology‐mediated group activity? Pairing qualitative analysis with quantitative metrics, our mixed‐methods approach produced a complex story of student participation in an AR‐mediated group activity. The patterns of student participation showed that equity and inequity in an AR‐mediated biochemistry group learning activity are fluid and multifaceted. It was observed that students who gave more explanations during group discussion also had more interactions with the AR model (i.e., they had greater access to the technological conversational floor), and their opinion of the AR model may have greater influence on how their group engage with the AR model. This study provides more nuanced ways of conceptualizing equity and inequity in biochemistry learning settings.

The strategic re-framing’s specificity level provokes either schema restrictions or expansions via the distinct accommodation practices it induces. Our theoretical model of business model schema change contributes to the literatures on managerial cognition, business models, and ICV, suggesting that business model schema change in ICV is a semi-autonomous process that involves both independent and joint endeavors.

Recent research has stressed the collaborative competences of people living with dementia, showing how they are capable of participating in a multitude of everyday activities when supported by cognitively healthy individuals. However, little is known about the collaborative work between different people living with dementia. Accordingly, this study aims to explore how people living with dementia, without the support of a cognitively healthy interlocutor, collaborate with other people living with dementia in an unfamiliar activity. The study is based on video recordings of three dyads, each comprising two individuals living with dementia, as they are using tablet computers with reminiscence and communication aiding applications. Drawing on multimodal interaction analysis, we show how the participants living with dementia treat the activities as joint endeavors and, when needed, engage in problem-solving sequences where they make their knowledge about how to progress within the activities publicly visible to their interlocutor. Our findings suggest that people living with dementia do collaborate with each other, and that the interactional labor between different people living with dementia is more symmetrical than what has been described in joint activities involving people living with dementia and cognitively healthy individuals.

Couples showed greater synchrony in the together condition; when comparing fNIRS data between true couples and randomly matched controls, this synchronous effect was only seen in true couples, indicating a unique effect of spousal co-regulation toward salient stimuli. We highlight meanings associated with our four study sites and, in the process, discuss insights learned through our integrative work. We hope that this will provide a framework for future collaboration among social scientists, humanities scholars, and eventually natural scientists collectively working to understand human-nature relationships.
