Peningkatan Kemampuan Analisis Struktur Surat Lamaran Kerja dengan Media Puzzle pada Siswa Kelasn XII di SMK 5

This article focuses on improving the ability to analyze the structure of job application letters by using puzzle media in grade XII students at SMK 5 Surabaya. This research was conducted because students often have difficulty in analyzing the text of a job application letter, even though this material is very important for daily life, especially in finding a job. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (PTK) which consists of two cycles. Each cycle includes planning, execution, observation, and reflection. In this study, puzzle media is used as a learning tool to improve students' analytical thinking skills. The results showed that the use of puzzle media significantly improved students' analytical ability from pre-cycle to second cycle, with the level of learning completeness increasing from 34.29% in pre-cycle to 87.68% in second cycle. Puzzle media is effective in improving students' analytical skills, and it is recommended to be applied to other subjects with appropriate learning strategies.

Generic Moves and Move Strategies in Job Application Letters Written by Pakistani Graduates

This study investigated the generic moves and move strategies in the job application letters of Pakistani graduates. In order to analyze the generic moves, by following Bhatia’s (1993) and Al-Ali’s (2004) frameworks, a model containing eleven moves was developed. Using this model, ten job application letters written by Pakistani graduates were manually examined. The findings of the present study revealed that Pakistani applicants frequently used nine moves out of 11 moves. In their job application letters, Pakistani graduates frequently used straight forward and direct strategies to provide explicit information in their job application letters while keeping professional tone and still follow courtly expressions. It also observed that Pakistani graduates also use the techniques to grab the attention of the potential employer. The results of present study were mostly agreed with previous studies (Bhatia, 1993; Henry and Roseberry, 2001; Al-Ali, 2004; Khan and Bee, 2012). The results of the present study will be helpful for fresh graduates to write an effective job application letter. It is advised that to conduct further study to create a genre-based syllabus. ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS' ABILITY IN WRITING JOB APPLICATION LETTERS

This study analyzed the ability of 6th semester students of Class A of the English Education Study Program of the University of Nias in writing a job application letter. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study evaluated a population of 35 people and 12 samples using purposive sampling, analyzing student letters based on three main criteria: opening, body, and closing sections. Data collection techniques used written tests and inductive data analysis. The criteria used to analyze students' ability in writing application letters were from “Excellent” to “Poor”. The results showed varying levels of proficiency in all three areas, with most students demonstrating “Excellent” to “Good” proficiency. The main factors affecting students' performance included their understanding of letter format and structure, ability to articulate qualifications and experience, and use of professional language. The study concludes that while students generally demonstrated competence in writing job application letters, there is still room for improvement, especially in crafting more memorable letter openers and closers. These insights can inform teaching strategies to improve students' job application letter writing skills.

This article examines the use of Canva as a teaching tool for Indonesian language instruction on job application letters in the XII Fashion Design class at SMKS 3 Idhata Curup. The goal is to describe Canva's effectiveness in enhancing students' writing skills and comprehension. Canva, as an online design and visual communication tool, helps convey messages and information effectively. This research employs a quantitative method with a descriptive approach. The study shows that Canva is effective as a learning medium, improving writing skills, comprehension, and student engagement. Integrating digital technology like Canva enriches the learning experience and prepares students for the digital workforce. It is recommended that Canva or similar digital media be more widely used across various subjects to enhance the quality of education. Overall, the use of Canva in teaching job application letters in the XII Fashion Design class at SMKS 3 Idhata Curup yields positive results and is worth implementing

Community Service by holding events whose topics are tailored to the needs of students as basic knowledge and preparation before entering the world of work. For this reason, educational institutions also pay special attention to prospective high school graduates who are expected to be ready and more confident when they enter the work industry. The method presented in the program above is through offline outreach and education, and the implementation of the activities will be carried out at State High Schools.

THE ABILITY OF STUDENTS AT THE TERTIARY LEVEL OF EDUCATION TO APPLY RELEVANT MOVES AND CONTENT IN JOB APPLICATION LETTERS

This paper presents an analysis of 22 job application letters written by students at the level of Master’s studies. The letters were analyzed regarding their structure, i.e. the moves they contained and their content, in order to determine whether students are able to write effective job application letters. When analyzing the documents, the main emphasis was put on the issues students had regarding the structure and content – the type of information included in each move. The small-scale research we conducted is mostly descriptive and qualitative with some quantitative data as well. The conclusions reached indicate that students are well aware of the correct structure of this type of document, but there is still room for significant improvement in terms of the content and the means to connect their skills to the requirements and present themselves in the best way possible. The findings reveal the necessity of explicit genre teaching with the focus on formal register and the ways in which applicants could attract potential employers.

Revealing the characteristics of Indonesian language test used in the national-standardized school examinations

This study aimed to determine the characteristics of Indonesian language test used in the national standardized school examinations (Ujian Sekolah Berstandar Nasional, USBN). We used the response data of 218 students from a public senior high school in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, to the test consisting of two packages, A and B, in the 2018/2019 academic year to investigate the characteristics of the test and its items. Quantitative analysis using classical test theory (CTT) and one-parameter logistic item response theory (1-PL IRT) model was conducted to investigate the characteristics of the test and its items based on difficulty and discriminating power. The results of the study under the CTT showed that most test items in both package A and package B have difficulty in the easy category and the portion of items in the difficult category is no more than 10%. In addition, while the majority of test items in both test packages demonstrated good discriminating power, package B contained a high number of items with poor discriminating power (47.5%). Under 1-PL IRT, our study results indicated the dominance of items with difficulty level in the moderate category in both test packages. In addition to revealing the difficulty level of the test items, our study showed that the items in the difficult category under CTT and IRT were related to the topics of types of conjunction; spelling, grammar, and sentence structure; job application letter; and observation report text and its structure. The results of this study are expected to contribute to improving the quality of the Indonesian language test and the quality of learning on topics where students have difficulty based on test items in the difficult category.

An Analysis of Errors in Resumes and Job Application Letters: The Study of Malaysian Undergraduate Students

Writing a resume and cover letter is essential, especially for fresh graduates, as these documents are crucial for pursuing their desired careers after completing their studies. The unemployment rate in Malaysia, coupled with the economic downturn brought about by COVID-19, is set to increase competition between new graduates and more experienced job seekers. The formatting of these documents, which must be correctly formatted and without errors, is critical because employers usually review resumes and cover letters as an initial screening for candidates. In developing the checklist for the corpus analysis for this research, the researchers adopted the Error Analysis (EA) framework by Corder (1973). The present study addresses this issue by examining the errors in resumes and cover letters produced by Malaysian undergraduates. The research employed the corpus linguistics approach by gathering 60 resumes and 60 job application letters to identify errors using the Error Analysis (EA) framework. The findings showed that students' common errors were misselection, addition, omission, blends and misordering. The most prominent error found in the data was misselection. In the context of intense job competition among recent graduates in Malaysia, this study emphasises the significance of impeccably crafted resumes and cover letters. It offers valuable insights into making job applications more effective and practical. The findings of this research have the potential to serve as a valuable guide for undergraduate students, which will allow them to develop compelling and relevant content for job applications.

Genre Structure and Writer Identity in EFL Students’ Application Letters

Writing for academic and professional purposes has been increasingly challenging for applicants as it requires a certain degree of proficiency to promote themselves as potential workers in the desired position. Considering the significance of English as the global lingua franca, there is an increasing need to ensure that formal writings, in different fields and contexts, adhere to the generic and linguistic standards necessary for effective written communication. This study presents an examination of genre features and rhetorical strategies of job application letters written by Tunisian Business students. More specifically, it intends to investigate how far novice non-native English candidates are able to successfully use the genre components and persuasive strategies of the target language. A corpus of 30 undergraduate job application letters was subject to move analysis, using top-down approach, basing on Khan and Tin’s (2012) model as an analytical framework. The results indicated that the participants showed different types of rhetorical patterns preferences used in various sequences and frequencies to articulate the same communicative purpose of the genre. The analysis revealed also that Addressing, Establishing credentials and Ending politely proved to be the most preponderant moves in the corpus. Yet, although the majority of applicants have commonly attempted to use an appropriate schematic structure in writing their job application letters, most of them failed to prove any creativity in elaborating their unique characteristics and achievements. The paper concludes with the possible linguistic and pedagogical implications of the study.

MENINGKATKAN HASIL BELAJAR SISWA MENGGUNAKAN MEDIA BOLA DENGAN TEKNIK LAY UP SHOOT PADA MATERI SURAT LAMARAN PEKERJAAN

This research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of using football media using the Lay Up Shoot technique in job application letter material in class XII, precisely at MA WALISONGO. The use of ball media using the Lay Up Shoot technique is carried out in class involving the teacher and all students. In addition to achieving learning objectives, this method is intended for students to concentrate. Using this method also makes the material easier to understand and learning in class more enjoyable.

The Importance of Work Preparation for Residents of Babakan Banten Hamlet: Building Personal Branding and Writing CV

Purpose: This study underscores the importance of work preparation before entering the workforce, focusing on personal branding and skills crucial for professional success. Addressing Babakan Banten Hamlet residents' need for work readiness awareness, it guides youth in crafting effective CVs and job application letters. Utilizing mixed methods, qualitative interviews, and quantitative surveys assess community needs and program efficacy perceptions.
 Method: Community engagement involves workshops for 17 to 22-year-olds. Data collected through observation and surveys assesses training effectiveness.
 Practical Applications: This research empowers participants for better job market entry, improved job application outcomes, and potentially higher youth employment rates, contributing to community growth. It also informs similar community development approaches.
 Conclusion: This activity strives to prepare Babakan Banten Hamlet's youth for the workforce through essential skills training. Its potential impact on employability and community well-being underscores the importance of targeted engagement in addressing specific challenges.

UPAYA MENULIS SURAT LAMARAN KERJA BAHASA INDONESIA MENGGUNAKAN MODEL THINK PAIRE SHARE

This research is a descriptive qualitative research. Data collection was done using observation, essay tests, and documentation methods. This study analyzes student errors based on test results on students' ability to write job application letters. Errors in writing job application letters often occur in the writing stages, such as content, word choice, sentences, paragraphs, and spelling on job application letters. Researchers used the think pair share model. This type of learning model is very suitable for students and helps researchers carry out learning activities in writing application letters. The subjects of this study were students of class XII TBSM and XII TKJ, totaling 60 people. In this study, students were given an essay test in writing a job application letter in the form of a description, then analyzed for errors based on the Indonesian correspondence guide with different types of errors for each category of errors. Obtained from the conclusion, the problem that arises from the background of the problem is in what way the efforts of class XII students of SMK PAB 1 Helvetia in writing essential parts using spelling on job application letters. The results of the data analysis show the control class with an average score of 66 and the experimental results with an average score of 81. Students using the think pair share model are more active in learning, asking questions, and answering questions posed by researchers using the think pair share model.

ENGLISH FOR BUSINESS MANAGEMENT’ STUDENTS: NEED ANALYSIS IN ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES (ESP)

The purpose of this research is to investigate the students need in learning English for specific purposes (ESP) of the students in Business Management Study Program. This research employs descriptive and qualitative approach. The questionnaire and interview are the only instrument used in this research. The questionnaire distributed to the student that has an answer which can be directly selected and the interview aims to collect more information related to the questionnaire. The participants of this study are the fourth semester of business management students in the Politeknik Negeri Manado in the academic year 2022-2023. The total of the business management students are 60 students who were or had completed general Basic English. The result indicate that students’ main purpose in learning English are for study/education and students’ needs of language proficiency skill are speaking. The students’ needs of the English sub-skills materials are related to the job vacancy, listening to the movies/songs/drama/role play, present a business plan for the speaking material and chose business letter/ job application letter for writing material. In the other hand, grammar knowledge and vocabulary mastery also needed by the student.

The implementation of the Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila with the theme of Employment as an Effort to Achieve Vocational Education Goals

Unemployment is one of the social problems occurring in almost every country in the world. In Indonesia itself, unemployment is dominated by vocational school graduates. Ideally, vocational schools are educational institutions that emphasize the formation of students to be ready and capable of facing the demands of the workforce and industry. However, in reality, vocational school graduates contribute significantly to the high rate of open unemployment in Indonesia. Therefore, various efforts and strategies have been made by various parties including schools to address this issue. One of these strategies is through the Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila. Thus, the aim of this research is to describe and analyze the implementation of the Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila with the theme of employment as an effort to achieve vocational education goals carried out at SMK Syubbanul Wathon in Tegalrejo, Magelang Regency. The approach used in this research is qualitative research with a case study design. The techniques used by the researcher to collect research data are through interviews, observations, and document studies. The results of this research indicate that the implementation of the Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila with the theme of employment not only shapes students to have abilities according to the demands of the business world and industry through activities such as creating job application letters and CVs as well as interview simulations but also shapes characters in accordance with the Pancasila student profile needed to compete in the global competence arena and support and provide a strong foundation for the competencies possessed by students to avoid misdirection.

Exploring Job Application Letters of EFL Learners

The background to this analysis is that many companies require applicants to write their application letters in English. If a student wishes to get a job, a job application letter is required upon leaving school. The purpose of this study is to examine EFL learners’ application letters. This study uses a qualitative methodology and discourse analysis as its research design. The data used in qualitative research comes from a variety of application letters. Participants in this study were high school students at a vocational school. It consists of four students in grade 12—two boys and two girls. The research was conducted through an analytical process in which a student completed her application within one week. They are then collected and analyzed by researchers. The general structure of job application letters is analyzed, and formal and informal words in job application letters are recognized and noted. In general, the results of the above analyses show that two students met the criteria for writing a job application letter, while the other two students did not yet meet the criteria for writing a job application letter. Teachers should pay more attention to teaching writing subjects, especially in making sentences such as when writing a job application letter. If you find an error while writing, explain of the errors to avoid mistakes from happening again and reduce error at the start.

The emergence of problems of decreased learning activities and interest in students' writing skills is still low. This study discusses the influence of audiovisual media on the job application letter writing skills of grade XII students at SMAN 1 Pangkalan Lesung. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of audiovisual media on job application letter writing skills in grade XII students at SMAN 1 Pangkalan Lesung. The benefits of research to develop learning media through appropriate educational methods so that they can influence student learning with potential and character. Research methods are obtained with pre-experimental designs, research instruments in the form of pretests and postes job application letter writing skills. Research data analysis techniques use descriptive statistical test techniques, normality tests, and homogeneity tests. The results of the study are audiovisual media affect the learning outcomes of job application letter writing skills for grade XII students at SMAN 1 Pangkalan Lesung, by giving the impression of a pleasant student learning experience, so that students become more motivated, learning becomes less boring, and makes communication easier to achieve effective and efficient learning goals.

The method or steps used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method, with the following techniques: Analysis of results. The analytical aspects are fluency, flexibility, Originality and exposition. The research was carried out in two cycles. Learning to present materials for writing and designing curriculum vitae and job application letters using the Canva Cycle 1 application is carried out in one meeting.

Online-based English Listening Skill Learning Model

This article is part of a research entitled "Online-based Student English Learning Models in Facing Curriculum Changes in the New Normal Era". This research was conducted to see and identify online-based listening learning models for students. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative method using a questionnaire and the final assignment of the Project course (Lesson Plan and Instruction). The number of samples used was 52 students who took the Project course (Lesson Plan and Instruction). From the 52 students, 6 students chose to teach the listening skill. Data analysis includes observation, open coding, and axial coding. The results reveal that the media used by students in learning listening skills is divided into online and offline media each 50% (3 people. Applications used by students in learning listening skill are divided into the use of British Council Web (16.67%), YouTube (16.67%), Google Meet (16.67%) and offline learning/Face-to-Face (50%). The learning methods that students apply in learning listening are Audio-Lingual Method (66.67%), Scientific Approach Techniques (16.67%), and Community Language Learning (16.67%). The topics presented included: Listening, Procedure Text, Songs, Job Application Letter, and Listening to a short cut of film.
