The Impact of IT Evolution on Industries and Workforce Skills: A Systematic Literature Review

Aim/Purpose: To investigate the impact of the evolution of Information Technology on global workforce skills and explore emerging approaches that address the IT talent shortage faced by diverse companies in finding skilled IT workers. Background: This paper explores diverse approaches to bridge the skilled IT workers shortage gap, especially in the context of the widening gap following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The study emphasizes the need to consistently leverage business and information technology strategies for competitive advantage. Methodology: This study followed the systematic literature review methodology on 809 articles from ACM, IEEE Xplore, and Scopus digital libraries by utilizing an integrative mixed methods approach with topic modeling and manual content analysis. Contribution: This paper aims to understand and describe the impact of the evolution of the IT industry on its workforce. It contributes additional evidence to our understanding of IT workforce development to support researchers and educators working towards developing effective strategies to bridge the IT talent gap. Findings: On the one hand, the study finds that the evolution of the IT industry produces a shift in required skills and knowledge, resulting in workers needing to adapt and embrace lifelong learning. On the other hand, the evolution of IT creates new opportunities for workers and results in a more globalized and interconnected workforce. Recommendations for Practitioners: Practitioners are recommended to adapt to the shifting skills landscape, encourage lifelong learning, explore new opportunities for workers, and embrace a more globalized workforce. Recommendations for Researchers: Researchers are encouraged to further explore the identified themes and delve into the nuances of the evolving impact of information technology on workforce skills. Impact on Society: The findings have implications for industry growth, emphasizing the importance of aligning business and IT strategies to address the shortage of skilled IT workers on a global scale. Future Research: Future research should focus on the continuous evolution of information technology and its impact on workforce skills, considering the identified themes as a foundation for further exploration.

Brief Analysis of the Impact of the Informatic Solutions on the Accounting Processes

The last years have brought significant changes determined by the rapid progress of the IT field. These changes have spread over the business environment. To face the change, companies update their business strategies, acquire new resources adapted to the needs of the present and look for well-trained employees with a high level of adaptability. The goal – to increase efficiency at the level of all departments, a very important one being the financial accounting department. Thus, modern technological solutions become indispensable for companies. In this context, this study aims to examine the influence of the evolution of technology and the specialization of IT tools dedicated to the field of accounting on the performance level of companies. Equally, this paper captures the influence that this IT evolution has on the accounting profession and, implicitly, on the educational programs for the training of specialists. Computer systems dedicated to the accounting field are becoming essential in the management and performance of accounting and auditing activities. The method approached for the elaboration of this literature review is based on the analysis of relevant studies for this topic and specialized scientific publications. Following the study, it is concluded that the adoption of modern IT solutions can bring benefits to employees in the field of accounting and implicitly to the decision-making system of companies.

Developing our previous research in the field, the present paper approaches the evolution of IT and terminology software. It explores the concepts of virtualization and cloud-based computing and its influence in the virtualization of terminology and development of cloud-based terminology management tools. The goal of our paper is to provide actualized information about the existing cloud-based terminology tools and about similar ongoing projects for experts, professors and students.

Security Issues in Cloud Computing

Cloud computing has aided the evolution of IT by improving the ability and flexibility of data storage, as well as providing scalable computation and processing capabilities that match the dynamic data sets. Many corporate application programs have been transferred to public and hybrid clouds due to the multiple benefits of cloud computing. On the other hand, many businesses identify privacy and data security as major concerns that prevent them from adopting cloud computing. The only way to achieve successful cloud implementation is to improve and manage data security and privacy in the cloud. This research paper looks at data privacy and security in cloud computing at all stages of the data lifecycle, providing a general overview of the technology while highlighting important security difficulties and concerns that must be addressed. It also examines a number of existing solutions and gives recommendations for new ones that can improve data privacy and security in the cloud. Blockchain is a revolutionary new technology that facilitates peer-to-peer transfer of value without the need for a centralised intermediary. It uses cryptographic hashing functions, consensus protocols and decentralised data storage to ensure security, decentralised trust, immutability and transparency of business transactions. Blockchain technology paired with smart contracts is a reliable method of automating business rules in an efficient and trustworthy mechanism. A smart contract is a self-executing piece of code that runs on a blockchain platform. Predefined rules between participating organisations are translated into smart contract functions to establish trust. Blockchain is undergoing rapid development and has revolutionary potential for application in Intelligent Transport Systems applications. Blockchain can be used to create a secure, reliable and decentralised autonomous system, creating the best use of legacy infrastructure and resources. One of the most important issues is security, caused by the evolution of ITS towards centralisation. Fast-growing technologies, including the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing, allow most data processing, analysis and decision-making to be done by centralised systems. The distinguishing factor of Ethereum is that it is programmed according to user requirements, rather than providing users with a set of predefined transactions, such as Bitcoin transactions. As a result, it could theoretically be used to automatically and securely execute any transaction involving trust, security or persistence. Although Ethereum is a relatively new implementation of blockchain, it has sparked reaction because of its potential to change the way many businesses operate.

This year marks four significant anniversaries of important developments in computing and information technology: the 75th anniversary of the first general purpose electronic digital computer, the 75th anniversary of IEEE Computer Society, the 40th anniversary of the microprocessor, and the 40th anniversary of the origin of quantum computing. In a span of 75 years, from an unproven technology to one that is embedded deeply into every aspect of our work and our daily lives, computers have advanced significantly. Let’s reflect on and celebrate the amazing developments and look forward to what is ahead. In commemoration of these extraordinary creations, IT Professional presents a special section “The Continuing IT Evolution and Revolution.” This section features four invited articles on the evolution of IT, multimedia advances, the duality of data and knowledge that is driving the third wave of AI, and the significance of ethically aligned IT in the digital era ahead.

Information Technology - A Veritable Tool For National Development

Purpose: Information Technology has become an indispensable tool in the achievement of remarkable feats - advances in health, agriculture, education, effective and efficient business solutions in the western world; whereas, in the African domain, only meager efforts has been made to exploit and leverage the merits of IT. The focus of this paper is to elucidate the concept of IT, its evolution, and challenges in the African setting; and ultimately a roadmap is proffered on how to leverage IT for National development.Methodology: To produce tangible inferences tailored at the solutions to the challenges mitigating the optimal utility of IT in the African setting, relevant data focused on IT, its evolution, challenges, advances, current state, and usage were gathered from literature most relevant to the subject matter via eBooks, articles, and first-hand observation. The modeled concept here constitutes a discuss on the meaning and applications of IT; the evolution of IT; a survey of national development constraints of African countries, threats and impediments to IT utility in the African domain; and ultimately a roadmap for IT in improving National development with better policies in Africa.Results: Based on the problem domain, the findings of this study imply that the drawbacks to the optimal utility of IT in the African setting are primarily socially induced, economic-related, driven by lagging policies, and less of technicalities or gadgetry. The proffered solutions focus on the adjustment of regulations, policies, and individual efforts that promote healthy IT practices to facilitate National development.Unique contribution to theory, policy and practice: This study brings to light the major drawbacks mitigating the leveraging of IT in National development in the African setting; it further demonstrates that a blend of an adjustment of policies and regulations, and healthy IT practices/habits by individual as novel approach play a key role in curbing the challenges in question and ultimately yield a significant improvement in the utility of IT in fostering National Development in the African setting.

Molecular evolution of the internal transcribed spacers in red oaks (Quercus sect. Lobatae)

Previous studies of the Internal Transcribed Spacers of the nuclear ribosomal DNA (ITS) in sections Quercus (white oaks), Protobalanus (intermediate or golden cup oaks), Cerris (Cerris oaks), and Ilex (Ilex oaks) suggest that ITS regions undergo full concerted evolution in oaks; however, ITS evolution patterns in red oaks (section Lobatae) are unknown due to scant representation in published work. To determine whether full concerted evolution occurs in red oaks, the purpose of this study was to examine ITS sequences from 40 red oak species. The results show incomplete concerted evolution and the presence of three ITS ribotypes of lengths 505, 609, 601 bp, hereafter referred to as ITS-S (small), I ITS-M (medium), and ITS-L (large), respectively. Thirty species had only one ribotype (ITS-M), nine species had two ribotypes (different combinations of ITS-L, ITS-M, and ITS-S), and only one species had all three ribotypes. Furthermore, examination of these three ribotypes showed that only ITS-M is putatively functional and ITS-L and ITS-S are pseudogenes. Bayesian analysis strongly supported (100%) two pseudogenes clades but provided weak support for the monophyly of a putative functional clade (ITS-M); moreover, within the “functional” clade, species relationships were uncertain and, in most cases, sequences from the same species failed to group together. The results of the current study suggest that ITS may not be appropriate for phylogeny reconstruction of red oaks due to low levels of interspecific variation and incomplete concerted evolution.

Someone could well think and say that all this is fantastic and that we have solved the problem of organization, easy life without further thoughts and worries since everything is done automatically.An IoT in an intelligent house could literally regulate everything, using sensors and appropriate software could talk with a human person, as well as someone could appropriately entice all that security and literally take full control of the premises of a home with consequences from minimal to catastrophic including the complete destruction of a home.

MEDIATION IN POLISH LABOUR LAW: COMPARING ITS EVOLUTION AND DEVELOPMENT TO LABOUR MEDIATION IN EU AND US LAW

Mediation was popularized in modern times in the United States. Its origins were found in the mediation of labour disputes between unions and employers, as a means of avoiding strikes, and currently it is used more and more frequently in individual employment matters. While mediation is not as widespread in Poland to date, its use in labour and employment cases appears to have a similar arc of development. Since the 1990s, mediation has had a central and positive role in resolving collective labour disputes, and now it is being used increasingly in individual employment cases. This paper explains these developments, with a particular focus on the evolution and scope of employment mediation under Polish and European Union law. The author concludes that although the basic framework exists for mediation to develop further in Poland, further reforms would be helpful to ensure its success.

Enabling Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) towards an emerging smart energy system

The increasing penetration of renewable energy on the transmission and distribution power network is driving the adoption of two-way power flow control, data and communications needed to meet the dependency of balancing generation and load. Thus, creating an environment where power and information flow seamlessly in real time to enable reliable and economically viable energy delivery, the advent of Internet of Energy (IoE) as well as the rising of Internet of Things (IoT) based smart systems.The evolution of IT to IoT has shown that an information network can be connected in an autonomous way via routers from operating system (OS) based computers and devices to build a highly intelligent eco-system. Conceptually, we are applying the same methodology to the IoE concept so that Energy Operating System (EOS) based assets and devices can be developed into a distributed energy network via energy gateway and self-organized into a smart energy eco-system. This paper introduces a laboratory based IIoT driven software and controls platform developed on the NICE Nano-grid as part of a NICE smart system Initiative for Shenhua group. The goal of this effort is to develop an open architecture based Industrial Smart Energy Consortium (ISEC) to attract industrial partners, academic universities, module supplies, equipment vendors and related stakeholder to explore and contribute into a test-bed centric open laboratory template and platform for next generation energy-oriented smart industry applications.In the meanwhile, ISEC will play an important role to drive interoperability standards for the mining industry so that the era of un-manned underground mining operation can become the reality as well as increasing safety regulation enforcement.

Skills for disruptive digital business

This article analyses the concept of skills and also investigates the skills needed to create and manage disruptive digital business which is emerging from the IT evolution. The primary purpose is to identify skills which need to be developed to manage a disruptive digital business.The technologies, disruptive business and the skills needed by managers were identified through content analysis of semi-structured interviews with seven IT specialists. To analyze the development of the level of skills needed was conducted an online survey with managers and the final output of the research is a proposal of a model of skills` development for managers of the disruptive business.Ultimately, the result of this research are the lessons uncovered and the proposal made for a model of skills development for disruptive business managers, which identifies three types/categories of skills needing development – innovation, leadership, and management.

Viable Systems Analysis of the Wardley IT Evolution Framework

AbstractIn enterprise technology a perennial challenge is reconciliation of “Slow” IT with “Fast” IT. Slow IT is focused on an organization's reliability, stability, and control. Fast IT is driven by innovation, exploration, and adaptation. Tension between Slow IT and Fast IT is inherent to technology, but accelerating business disruptions increase that tension and its consequences. This paper leverages the Viable Systems Model (VSM) to evaluate an IT delivery approach for integrating Slow IT with Fast IT: the Wardley Pioneer Settler Town Planner (PST) trimodal structure. This paper first reviews challenges in enterprise technology management, and the effects of current and emerging disruptions. It then reviews the Viable Systems Model as a tool for analysis of enterprise IT models. Potential obstacles to VSM use are considered, specifically regarding the practical application to enterprise IT management. Then Wardley PST is decomposed using VSM and analyzed to assess its impact on enterprise IT system viability. The VSM proves effective for analyzing future organizational health, and enables us to conclude that the Wardley PST trimodal framework is a viable system that can integrate Slow IT with Fast IT.
