This article presents a broader definition of school violence in relation to thatnormally present in the bibliographical references about the theme. This extension is basedon understanding of the phenomenon as something intrinsically related to the social, culturaland historical context in which it occurs. Ponder the way how to approach the issue ofschool violence on of the manifestations that take place within schools and that are related toboth internal and external problems of everyday school life. The aim of this study was toidentify existing school violence and practice / actions taken to reduce it. With a qualitativeapproach, data collection was conducted through structured interviews and recorded withteachers, principals, judges, policeman, teenagers, students from 12 to 18 years and consultationof documents. It is concluded that the topic is current and emerging and a state actionalone cannot eliminate the problem, such a feat requires the involvement of the schoolcommunity, family and society, considering that the schools are in a frontier region and thatwill not only public policies to decrease violence and yes, a set of actions that give opportunityimprove human respect, the rescue of human values.
