Beyond Gender: How Personality Types Affect Pre-Service EFL Teachers' Speaking Skills

This study examines the impact of gender and personality on the English-speaking skills of pre-service EFL teachers at an Islamic Higher Education institution. The fourth semester of pre-service EFL teachers at an Islamic Higher Education institution who programmed Public Speaking Course are involved in this research. By utilizing an ex post facto with an application of 2 x 4 factorial design, this research involves questionnaire and oral speaking test to collect the needed data. The questionnaire which is taken from standardized personality test by Florence Littauer is used to get the data of students’ types of personality. The results show that gender has a significant impact on English-speaking skills, with females outperforming males. Personality types also have a significant impact on English-speaking skills, with differences observed among choleric, sanguine, melancholic, and phlegmatic pre-service EFL teachers. However, there is no significant interaction effect between gender and personality types on English-speaking skills. These findings emphasize the importance of considering individual differences when designing language learning programs and interventions in EFL teaching and learning.

Enhancing Student Learning Outcomes in The Qur'an Interpretation Course Through The Implementation of The Start From Reading (SFR) Cooperative Learning Model

Conventional teaching methods have been noted to stifle student creativity potentially. In contrast, Cooperative learning, characterized by group-based activities, fosters an interactive and communicative learning atmosphere. Embracing the principles of Cooperative learning, the Start from Reading (SfR) model can be applied to Quranic studies in Islamic higher education institutions. This study assessed the efficacy of the SfR learning model in improving student learning outcomes in the Qur'an interpretation course at the Arabic Language Education Studi Program (ALESP), UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Employing a quasi-experimental design, the research analyzed pre-test and post-test scores from experimental and control groups. Findings revealed a significant increase in post-test scores, rising from an average of 70.00 in pre-tests to 77.15, highlighting the effectiveness of the SfR model in enhancing student learning. These outcomes emphasize the importance of incorporating the SfR model into Quranic education, potentially enriching student learning experiences and achievements in this academic domain.

Mapping TPACK Components in Implementing Edupreneur-Profiled Curriculum at Teacher Training and Education Institutions in Aceh

This research aims to explore the mapping of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) components of instructors in implementing the Edupreneur-profiled curriculum in Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKI) in Aceh. The researchers employed interview methods, observations, and document reviews involving three heads of study programs and six instructors from three PTKIs (Islamic Higher Education Institutions) in Aceh, namely UIN Ar-Raniry, IAIN Lhokseumawe, and STAIN Teungku Dirundang Meulaboh. The data analysis was conducted interactively. Instructors teaching Edupreneurship-profiled courses have successfully integrated Content Knowledge (CK), Pedagogical Knowledge (PK), Technological Knowledge (TK), Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK), Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TCK), and Technological Content Knowledge (TPK) as components of TPACK in their teaching practices. This research contributes to mapping these components, thereby aiding instructors in effectively implementing the entrepreneurship-profiled curriculum. In conclusion, this research provides valuable insights into the effectiveness of Open Educational Resources (OER) on creative thinking within the context of science subjects, filling a notable gap in the existing literature and offering a foundation for further exploration in educational practices.

Lecturers’ Individual Factors of Knowledge-Sharing Behavior: A Study in Islamic Higher Education Institutions in Indonesia

This study aims to analyze lecturers' knowledge-sharing behavior at Indonesian Islamic universities. Knowledge-sharing behavior is reviewed based on individual attitude factors and individual expectations, which are developed into six question items that have been qualitatively validated by experts. This research was conducted on lecturers at Islamic-based tertiary institutions in Indonesia. Data were collected using survey techniques with the help of Google Forms. The data were analyzed using the frequency and percentage tabulation approaches. The results of the data analysis show that lecturers have an individual attitude factor of 86.1% and a personal expectation factor of 78.2%. As an implication, knowledge-sharing behavior can be increased through individual attitude factors such as awareness of increasing and developing knowledge and as a contribution to the institution.

Performing Hybrid Learning at Islamic Higher Education Institusions for Mitigating Learning Loss

This research delves into the integration of hybrid learning amidst digital disruption, targeting the reduction of learning gaps within PTKI (Islamic Higher Education Institutions) context. Utilizing a blend of quantitative analysis of student data and qualitative methods including interviews, surveys, and observations across three PTKIs in South Sumatra, Indonesia, the study evaluates the effectiveness of hybrid learning in mitigating learning loss. Results highlight that the combination of virtual and traditional classroom elements through hybrid learning significantly narrows learning deficits, enhances student involvement, and fosters better academic outcomes. These findings serve as a valuable contribution to understanding hybrid learning practices specifically within PTKI settings, shedding light on its potential in addressing educational challenges amid digital advancements.

Kajian Problematika Pendidikan Tinggi Islam

The problems of Indonesian education in Islamic higher education include an irrelevant curriculum, limited infrastructure and resources, inequality of access and quality of education, the quality of teaching and research that needs to be improved, and low relevance to the needs of society. Solutions to the problems of Indonesian education in Islamic higher education include updating the relevant curriculum, improving infrastructure and resources, equalizing access and equity of education, improving the quality of teaching and research, and collaboration with industry and society. These steps require cooperation between the government, educational institutions, industry and society together. By implementing these solutions, it is hoped that Islamic higher education institutions in Indonesia can make a greater contribution to the development of society and the Islamic world.

Silibus Kursus Mustalah Al-Hadis: Kajian Perbandingan Terhadap Penerimaan Pelajar Di Institut Pengajian Tinggi (IPT) Islam

Mustalah al-Hadis is one of the courses in the Core component of Islamic Studies program offered at the Public Higher Education Institutions (IPTA) or Private Higher Education Institutions (IPTS) in Malaysia. The exposure of basic sciences of hadith in this course is able to strengthen the understanding of the hadith of Prophet Muhammad SAW, which is significant as the second source of legislation in Islam. In order to ensure that the learning process goes more smoothly in line with the development of the 21st Century Learning (PAK-21) and as a response to the challenges of Industrial Revolution 4.0 in the educational aspect, the Mustalah al-Hadis course is also not left behind in the Malaysia’s flow of education. Therefore, this article aims to examine students’ acceptance of the Mustalah al-Hadith course syllabus offered at Islamic Higher Education Institutions in northern Malaysia, namely Kolej Universiti Islam Perlis (KUIPs), Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Sultan Abdul Halim Mua’dzam Shah (UniSHAMS) and Kolej Islam Teknologi Antarabangsa (KITAB), Pulau Pinang. This qualitative study takes the form of interviews, observations and document analysis involving lecturers and students taking the Mustalah al-Hadis course. The findings of the study can be concluded that the students’ acceptance of the Mustalah al-Hadis course syllabus depends on the educational background and the students’ determination to learn this course as well as the teaching methodology applied by the course lecturer.

Quality assurance strategies of higher education in digital era: an Anthropology of education study in Islamic higher education institution

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to demonstrate the strategy and innovation of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities in developing the quality of education in digital era by using anthropology of education approach.Design/methodology/approachIn accordance with the research purpose to demonstrate the strategy and innovation of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities in developing the quality of education in the digital era using an educational anthropology approach, the method used is descriptive qualitative, which refers to data in the form of interviews obtained from the field.FindingsThe results of this research indicate that there are strategies and innovations to develop the quality of higher education at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities in the digital era. These include adjusting the curriculum with the context of the era, implementing the learning process based on research and reinforcing on aspects of digital literacy among students through the innovation of the library based on digital.Originality/valueThis study can be considered in the process of evaluating policies related to quality reinforcing strategies and innovations at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities in facing the challenges of the times. The study is only limited to tracing and analyzing strategies and innovations to reinforce education in the Faculty of Adab and Humanities and their impact on human resource development. For further research, it can be done in more detail and depth and on a larger scale.

Implementing Sustainable Islamic Higher Education Campuses: A Practical Framework

Most people know that our planet is in grave danger, but only a select few are doing something to stop the damage. Administrators at Islamic universities will find this article's framework for creating greener campuses useful. Institutional leaders must now take decisive action to rescue the planet by enacting environmentally friendly campus development programs or policies, directing environmental preservation, and building a clean, healthy, environmentally friendly, and sustainable campus. Several feasible frameworks are available for use in Islamic higher education institutions. The first step in environmental education management is the creation of an environmentally friendly curriculum, followed by the implementation of community-based education, the enhancement of the campus and surrounding environment, the implementation of an environmentally friendly support system, and finally the creation of environmental-based educational management.

Adapting and implementing the new normal: an Islamic university perspective

PurposeThis paper explores the experiences and strategies that have emerged from an Islamic university in Brunei Darussalam in its efforts to adapt to the new normal. It aims to provide a comprehensive post COVID-19 teaching and learning strategies framework and understand how the principles of Islam can be harmonised with modern practices, offering valuable lessons for educational institutions worldwide.Design/methodology/approachThe study employed a three-fold methodology. Initially, the authors conducted a comprehensive review of the post-COVID-19 experiences within Islamic universities. Subsequently, they administered a structured questionnaire to academic staff and students at an Islamic university in Brunei, utilising Google survey forms. Based on the insights from the data analysis, strategies were carefully formulated. Ultimately, this informed the development of a framework grounded in the established strategies.FindingsThe significant findings from this study include the adoption of “e-Talaqqi” and how this can be related to Maqasid Shariah to produce a conceptual framework of post-COVID-19 strategies adaptable for Islamic Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and how that can be related to Maqasid Shariah in line with the values of Islamic-based universities.Research limitations/implicationsThe applicability of the framework developed from data gathered at an Islamic university in Brunei might have certain limitations when extended to other Islamic HEIs. Future research should aim to cover more Islamic HEIs across various countries, thereby strengthening a broader applicability of the framework. Moreover, it is advisable that the developed framework undergoes statistical validation to fortify it.Practical implicationsThe study's implications encompass theory, researchers, educators, policymakers, and all stakeholders concerned with the past, present, and future of HEIs, particularly in facilitating the adaptation of post-COVID-19 norms within Islamic HEIs.Social implicationsThis paper holds the potential to significantly benefit society by providing invaluable insights to educators and various sectors, aiding them in enhancing their learning pedagogies.Originality/valueThis study has developed a conceptual framework that offers strategies tailored for Islamic HEIs in the post-COVID-19 era, harmonising with the principles of Islamic-based universities, in alignment with Maqasid Shariah. Consequently, this research serves as a significant contribution to the evolution of new theoretical paradigms because of COVID-19.

Constructing the Concept of Student Well-Being within Indonesian Islamic Higher Education

This qualitative study investigates teachers’ and students’ conceptualization of well-being at an Islamic higher education institution in Indonesia. Drawing on a constructivist research design, data for this study were collected via interviews with three experienced teachers and a focused group discussion with eight students. The collected data were analyzed using a thematic analysis framework assisted by the NVIVO Pro 11 application. The results of this study reveal that, for the teacher participants, well-being should be conceptualized with reference to spiritual and transcendental dimensions (chaironic). For the student participants, meanwhile, genuine positivity with mutual respect and understanding (eudemonic) should be more emphasized. Nevertheless, both teachers and students believe that subjective well-being (hedonic) is particularly important in the fulfillment of physical and material needs on campus. This study also uncovers that, besides a context-driven conceptualization of well-being, a set of preconditions is required in order to make well-being part of campus culture, university policies, and teaching and learning practices at Islamic higher education institutions.

EFL Student’s Perception of MALL for Pronunciation Proficiency

<p class="abstrak">Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) greatly influences the success of pronunciation proficiency. Several previous studies have been conducted on the positive effect of MALL on Increasing pronunciation proficiency. however, the students' perceptions of MALL in increasing pronunciation proficiency are rare. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the perception of using the teaching technological tool. This study used a survey research design. Sixty-nine English students at one Islamic higher education institution in Jambi, Indonesia voluntarily participated in this study. Data from participants were collected using questionnaires and then analyzed using SPSS 26. The research results showed that there was a statistically significant difference in perception of the usefulness of MALL, but no statistically significant difference in perception of the ease of MALL regarding gender. This means that the results indicated that the students positively perceive MALL in the process of teaching and learning.</p>

An Empirical Study to Evaluate the Measurement of Leadership Management in Superior Islamic Higher Education

This study aims to analyze and evaluate the determinants of the success of leadership management in superior Islamic higher education. The research sample collection method is non-probability sampling using purposive sampling. There were 422 respondents from six Islamic higher education institutions in Indonesia. PLS-SEM analysis was used to test the structural model (8 variables and 41 constructs) and 17 hypotheses. The dimensions of the measurement model have met the evaluation of the measurement and structural model. The dominant factor measured leadership management. The job description was (IP5; λ = 89.00%), and the lowest factor was infrastructure facilities (PR4; λ = 77.30%). The ability of the structural model (R2) to explain the usefulness variable based on seven measuring variables was 79.50%. In contrast, the leadership management dimension (Q2) explains 59.40% of the phenomena predicted in the field. This research contributes to the success factor of measuring leadership management supported by the influence of worthiness, accuracy, and usefulness. The involvement of eight variables can facilitate the development and conceptualization of the leadership management model of Islamic higher education.

Opportunities and challenges faced by State Islamic Tertiary Education Institutions in 4.0 Industrial Era

This research aims at understanding opportunities and challenges faced by State Islamic Tertiary Education Institution in Indonesia's industrial revolution 4.0 era amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to new normal. This is a qualitative research involving 46 informants, consisting of stakeholders in Islamic Tertiary institutions. The data were collected through interviews, observation and documentation. The data analysis were implemented through reduction, display data, and conclusion drawing/verification. The result of this research shows that the Islamic higher education institutions still experience challenges in the industrial revolution 4.0 era: lack of human resource, administrative staff’s lack of ability in using technological devices, and insufficient infrastructure to support the teaching process. However, industrial revolution 4.0 has opened new opportunities for the development of the tertiary institutions, in terms of its institution status changes from State Islamic Institution to State Islamic University, including the establishment of faculty of science and technology relevant to the current job market. In addition, during the Covid-19 and new normal era, the teaching process was based on online infrastructure, which was the characteristic of industrial revolution 4.0. The strategy to uplift the quality of Islamic higher institutions was conducted by enhancing the lecturer's competency, implementing the National Qualification Framework for Indonesia curriculum, developing the technology facility for teaching, and establishing the Ma’hadA’ly (Higher learning) program.

Intercultural Communicative Competence Model Using English Literature: A Case Study at Some Islamic Universities in Indonesia

The acquisition of intercultural competence is considered paramount in enabling learners to engage comfortably with individuals from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. The ability to communicate and interact appropriately with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds is increasingly recognized as a fundamental component of the 21st century learning skillset. To investigate the attitudes, knowledge, and skills of students in relation to intercultural activities, this study employs a literature-based instructional approach. The implementation of the Intercultural communicative competence through English Literature (ICC-EL) paradigm among 92 students enrolled in the English Education Study Program at an Islamic higher education institution is the subject of this study. The research adopted a mixed-method approach to generate both quantitative and qualitative data. Specifically, a questionnaire was administered to students upon the completion of the course to elicit quantitative data, while qualitative data was obtained through observation of the students' performance by the course lecturer. The results demonstrate that the implementation of the ICC-EL model has proven to be successful in stimulating the students' intercultural communication skills. Furthermore, the study of literary materials in the form of English novels has encouraged students to administer their awareness of intercultural communication skills. The incorporation of a variety of techniques has provided students with greater exposure to diverse languages and cultures, thereby encouraging them to manage their intercultural communication skills. The assessment of intercultural communication competency employed in the ICC-EL model is deemed appropriate and adaptable for implementation in different language teaching and evaluation contexts.

Upaya Mengembangkan Sikap Modernitas Mahasiswa STAIS/ITSNU Pasuruan Tanpa Meninggalkan Nilai-nilai Islam Ciri Khas an-Nahdliyah

The presence of STAIS/ITSNU Pasuruan is an Islamic higher education institution as a post-Aliyah/non-Aliyah madrasa institution inside and outside the Islamic boarding school environment. This higher education institution will produce students who have modern values ​​without having to abandon the characteristics of an-Nahdliyah, where in general students are educated and trained to live simply, be humble, honest, adaptable, not arrogant, respect people. on the other hand, being steadfast in facing all challenges and temptations, being able to live on one's own strength does not require being a civil servant, and being sincere in all deeds, which is in accordance with the characteristics of an-Nahdliyah. However, their orientation remains towards the future, and has modern values ​​that should be implemented.

A Classification Review of Hadith Research in Indonesia

The abundance of hadith research demands a classification to sustain the discipline of hadith studies. This study aims to conduct a classification review on hadith research. The method used is qualitative through a literature review and employs a content analysis. The result shows some findings and discussions regarding the distribution, classification, and implication of hadith research. This study concludes that the classification of hadith research is significant for its enthusiasts to discern a position in sustainable research. EFL Lectures’ Grading Practices in Islamic and General Higher Education Institutions

This study investigates EFL lecturers’ grading practices, focusing on the beliefs underlying these practices, the types of assessment they implement to determine students’ final grades, and multiple factors influencing them in deciding students’ final grades. Applying interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), two EFL lecturers, one from an Islamic higher education institution and the other from a general higher education institution, were interviewed to reveal their grading practices. The findings of the research reveal that both lecturers believe that grades should reflect students’ learning outcomes. They serve as an instrument to measure the achievement of learning objectives and to identify which items from the course need to be improved. Both lecturers also believe that assigning final grades should involve multiple aspects related to moral character development. Furthermore, they apply various types of assessment. They employ formal and informal assessment types to obtain students’ scores before deciding their final grades. In addition, they consider academic factors, such as scores derived from formal and informal assessments, and non-academic factors, such as students’ efforts, attitude, and attendance, should be employed in their grading practices. Tracing the Roots and Gateways of Radicalization in Countering Radicalism through a System Approach at the State Islamic University of Mataram

This paper examined counter-radicalization at Mataram State Islamic University (UIN Mataram) through a systematic approach. It focused on the forms, typology, roots, and gateways of radicalism in the Islamic university. This study categorized the roots of radicalism as the internal aspect of the system, while the gateways are referred to as the external component. The findings showed that the efforts to demolish radicalism at UIN Mataram should be preceded by the understanding of (a) forms and typology of radicalism, (b) understanding of the roots and gateways of the radical ideology, and (3) offering solutions through system approach. These include leadership involvement, disseminating moderate Islamic values (Washatiyyah), re-examining the curriculum and materials prone to misunderstanding, modifying the pedagogical methods, involving Islamic boarding schools, and carrying out more studies on radicalism at Islamic higher education institutions. 

The Radicalism Prevention through Academic Policies at State Islamic Higher Education in Indonesia

Several Islamic higher education institutions have allegedly been exposed to radicalism, which is seen from the emergence of intolerant understanding, extremism, and involvement in terrorism. This study explores the efforts to prevent radicalism by implementing academic policies at State Islamic Higher Education based on experiences at IAIN Bukittinggi, UIN Jakarta, UIN Malang, and IAIN Tulungagung. It employed an ethnographic research method that collected the data through in-depth interviews, extensive observations, and documentation as data collection techniques. The results show that efforts to prevent radicalism were evidenced in the application of general policies of religious moderation in the curriculum and various campus community activities, introduction of campus mottos, tightening of students' selection system, orientation to campus life for new students, strengthening the academic atmosphere, and strengthening students' hard skills, abilities, and soft skills. These show that Islamic higher institutions are actively invloved in the eradication of religious radicalization.
