Opportunities and Challenges of Digital Transformation for Creative Economy Development: Study Literature Review

Digital transformation has become a global trend that affects all aspects of human life. In Indonesia, digital transformation can accelerate economic growth, especially in the creative economy sector. One of them is efficiency in the use of technology, investment in digital infrastructure and increasing financial access. The aim of this research is to analyze the opportunities and challenges related to the policy of accelerating digital transformation in the development of the creative economy in Indonesia. The research found that there are various opportunities that can be exploited in developing the creative economy in Indonesia through accelerated digital transformation policies, challenges that must be overcome, such as low technological accessibility and inadequate infrastructure. Research shows that accelerated digital transformation policies can be a driver of creative economic growth in Indonesia which must be adapted to local conditions and accompanied by efforts to increase technological accessibility and adequate infrastructure. Evaluating the Feasibility of Digital Twin in Architecture Industry

This review paper examines the feasibility of adopting digital twin technology in the architecture industry. It examines the current state of digital twin technology, its potential applications, drivers, benefits, and challenges, and compares findings with existing guidelines and standards. The study is based on review literature, including industry reports, surveys, and online articles, due to its rapidly evolving nature. The findings are compared with existing guidelines and standards to identify any alignments, gaps, or contradictions between industry best practices and the literature. The overall assessment indicates that the adoption of digital twin technology in the architecture industry is feasible, but significant challenges and barriers need to be addressed. Key factors supporting the feasibility include growing industry awareness, advancements in enabling technologies, and alignment with existing guidelines and standards. However, challenges include the lack of clear industry-wide standards and protocols, data security and governance concerns, and the need for significant investments in digital infrastructure and organizational change. The study concludes that the feasibility of digital twin adoption in the architecture industry is promising, but successful implementation will require a concerted effort by industry stakeholders to address the identified challenges and align with emerging best practices and standards. The spatial effect of integrated economy on carbon emissions in the era of big data: a case study of China

The digital economy has the characteristics of resource conservation, which can solve China’s high carbon emissions problems. The digital economy can quickly integrate with the real economy, forming an integrated economy. However, it is still unclear whether an integrated economy can effectively reduce carbon emissions and achieve China’s ‘dual carbon goals’. Therefore, this study takes 30 provinces in China as the research object, constructs the integration economy index system through the statistical data from 2011-2021, and explores the spatial effect of the impact of the integration economy on carbon emissions by using principal component analysis, coupled coordination model and spatial econometric model. The research results are as follows. (1) From 2011 to 2021, the comprehensive economy showed a trend of increasing yearly (from 0.667 to 0.828), and carbon emissions showed a slow decrease (from 0.026 to 0.017). (2) Due to the infiltration of China’s economic development from the eastern to the western, the spatial distribution of the integrated economy shows a decreasing trend from east to west. The spatial distribution of carbon emissions may be related to China’s industrial layout of heavy industry in the northern, and light industry in the southern, showing a trend of low in the south and high in the north. (3) The integrated economy can significantly reduce carbon emissions (the coefficients of influence, -0.146), and the reduction effect will be more obvious if spatial spillover effects are taken into account (-0.305). (4) The eastern coast, the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and the middle reaches of the Yellow River economic zones all increase carbon emissions at a certain level of significance (0.065, 0.148, and 3.890). The Northeast, South Coastal and Southwest economic zones significantly reduce carbon emissions (-0.220, -0.092, and -0.308). The results of the Northern Coast and Northwest are not significant (-0.022 and 0.095). (5) China should tailor regional economic development policies, such as strengthening investment in digital infrastructure in the Northwest Economic Zone and fully leveraging the spatial spillover effects of integrated economy in the Northeast, Southern Coastal, and Southwest Economic Zones to reduce carbon emissions.

Impact of Digitalization on Firm Performance in the Manufacturing Sector: A Case Study of Nigeria

Purpose: The aim of the study was to investigate the impact of digitalization on firm performance in the manufacturing sector: a case study of Nigeria. Methodology: This study adopted a desk methodology. A desk study research design is commonly known as secondary data collection. This is basically collecting data from existing resources preferably because of its low cost advantage as compared to a field research. Our current study looked into already published studies and reports as the data was easily accessed through online journals and libraries. Findings: Digitalization has significantly impacted firm performance in Nigeria's manufacturing sector. It has enhanced operational efficiency, improved decision-making processes, and spurred innovation within firms. By embracing digital transformation, Nigerian manufacturing companies have bolstered their competitiveness and market positioning. Ongoing investment in digital capabilities is crucial for sustaining growth and success in the sector. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Resource-based view (RBV) theory, technology acceptance model (TAM) & institutional theory may be used to anchor future studies on the impact of digitalization on firm performance in the manufacturing sector: a case study of Nigeria. Nigerian manufacturing firms should prioritize investment in digital infrastructure, talent development, and organizational culture conducive to digital innovation. Policymakers should enact supportive regulatory frameworks and incentives to encourage digitalization adoption among manufacturing firms in Nigeria.

Financial technology as a heterogeneous driver of carbon emission reduction in China: Evidence from a novel sparse quantile regression

China is facing tremendous pressure to reduce carbon emissions. This paper investigates the impact of financial technology (fintech) on carbon emissions reduction across Chinese provincial regions using annual data from 2011 to 2021. To comprehensively reflect the development level of fintech, we utilize web crawler technology and word frequency analysis to create new variables for measuring the technology level and innovation capability, with fintech-related keywords sourced from the Baidu index. Subsequently, we construct a fintech index for each province in China. Given the heterogeneous relationship between fintech and carbon emissions reduction, we employ an innovative sparse support vector quantile regression to explore the impact of fintech on carbon emissions reduction at different quantile levels. This method employs an Lp-norm regularization term to identify the key variables influencing carbon emission reduction. The empirical results indicate that fintech significantly reduces carbon emissions in all Chinese provincial regions. Furthermore, the positive effects of fintech on carbon emissions reduction are much stronger in high-carbon provinces than in low-carbon provinces. Consequently, it is imperative for policy-makers and practitioners to focus on increasing investment in digital infrastructure and enhancing digital services, particularly in Shanxi, Hebei, Henan, Shaanxi, Ningxia, and Xinjiang provinces. The mechanism analysis reveals that fintech contributes to carbon emission reduction by promoting industrial structure upgrading in more economically developed provinces, while its mediating role is absent in less developed provinces.

Industry 4.0 in Finance, Digital Financial Services and Digital Financial Inclusion in Developing Countries: Opportunities, Challenges, and Possible Policy Responses

Fintech and the adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution (industry 4.0) technologies have expanded the provision and uptake of digital financial services (DFSs) globally. Digital transformation in the financial industry intended to modify financial service provisioning by reducing the costs of accessing and challenges such as inaccessibility due to remoteness, not having a bank account, not having a credit history, or having erratic incomes. Digital financial inclusion (DFI) aims to ensure that financial services, such as deposits, payments, transfers, withdrawals, investments, accessing insurance and credit, checking account balances, receiving money, and making international remittances, are conducted conveniently, easily, safely, reliably, and affordably. DFI focuses on ensuring access to financial services through digital channels and platforms for individuals, businesses, and households, to promote financial inclusion for all stakeholders, especially previously financially excluded groups. Through a critical review of the literature, this study explores the opportunities and challenges of DFI or the adoption and use of DFS. The review unpacks the possible benefits of using DFSs, which include the broadening financial inclusion, increasing diversity and innovation in the financial services sector, attainment of the SDGs, reduction of poverty, increased economic growth, and minimization of the gender financial inclusion gap, as well as reduction in inequalities. The constraints include the inadequacy of digital infrastructure, taxes on DFS, literacy challenges, digital exclusion, poverty and the gender divide, risks, and lack of trust in the financial services sector. The study recommends appropriate regulation and oversight, literacy enhancement initiatives, investment in digital infrastructure, and increased consumer protection as measures to improve DFI in developing countries.

THE ROLE OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES IN ENHANCING THE EFFICIENCY OF MECHANISMS FOR IMPLEMENTING PUBLIC POLICY ON MANAGING SOCIAL CONFLICTS IN UKRAINE

In the article, the role of digital technologies in enhancing the efficiency of mechanisms implementing public policy for managing social conflicts in Ukraine is examined. The analysis underscores the importance of utilizing digital innovations, such as e-governance, mobile applications, and digital platforms, in fostering interaction between civil society and the government. The advantages of digital tools, including increased transparency, active citizen participation, and prompt response to social conflicts, are highlighted. Emphasis is placed on how the development of digital literacy in the population contributes to the implementation of innovations and the establishment of a sustainable mechanism for managing social conflicts in Ukraine. It is emphasized that Ukraine, with its multi-layered socio-cultural environment, faces unique challenges in the realm of social conflicts. Digital technologies, considering the peculiarities of the national context, can act as a catalyst for improving understanding among various social groups, providing broader access to information, and enabling the expression of diverse perspectives. In the conclusions of the article, the potential of digital technologies as tools for constructively resolving social conflicts and strengthening social coordination is highlighted. The importance of continued investments in digital infrastructure and programs for the development of digital literacy is underscored for the sustainable implementation of digital mechanisms for managing social conflicts in Ukrainian society.

Use of Electronic Devices in the Teaching and Learning of the English Language in Oyo State Senior Secondary Schools

Purpose: The dwindling standard of Nigerian students’ performances in SSCE English language has become worsened. As a result, this study will focus at employing electronic approach in language teaching called Computer Assisted Language Teaching (CALL) to improve the learners’ poor performances in WASSCE, NECO and UTME and other English language external examinations. Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) is a novel electronic approach to language pedagogy being introduced in 1980s in Deakin University, USA was used in this research as a theoretical tool.
 Methodology: This research used Brade’s (2007) teleconferencing and Sussaine Herring’s (2001) Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) as theoretical framework for the study. Coupled with this, questionnaires was administered among 360 students and 36 teachers from 18 purposively selected senior secondary schools in Oyo State. Stratified randomly sampling approach was used in selecting the respondents. Besides, electronic tools like projector and other power-point gadgets down-linked equipment gadgets that are used in electronic language teaching called tele-conferencing was purchased for teaching the respondents. A lecture room was furnished for keeping the gadgets purchased and for using video or tele-conferencing in language teaching in teaching the respondents.
 Findings: The findings revealed that this electronic approach to English language in Nigeria has improve the poor standard of students’ performances in external examinations like WASSCE, NECO and also improve students’ communicative and linguistic competence in English language in Oyo State.
 Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: The government and educational authorities in Oyo State should prioritize investments in digital infrastructure, including providing schools with an adequate number of electronic devices and ensuring reliable internet connectivity. This will facilitate seamless integration of technology into the teaching and learning process.

Digital Transformation and Its Impact on Business Performance in SMEs of Pakistan: An Empirical Study

This study investigates the pivotal role of digital transformation in enhancing the business performance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Pakistan. Grounded in the Resource-Based View (RBV) theory, the research posits three hypotheses examining the relationships between technology adoption, digital literacy among management, and investment in digital infrastructure with business performance. A stratified random sampling approach was employed to collect data from managers and employees across various Pakistani SMEs. The findings reveal significant positive correlations between the elements of digital transformation and business performance. Specifically, the study indicates that SMEs embracing technological advancements, fostering digital literacy in management, and investing in digital infrastructure demonstrate improved operational efficiency and market adaptability. This research contributes to the understanding of digital transformation in the SME sector, offering valuable insights for practitioners and policymakers. It emphasizes the need for strategic digitalization approaches and highlights the benefits of supportive digital policies for SMEs. While the study offers robust evidence from the Pakistani context, it acknowledges limitations such as self-reporting biases and the need for further research in diverse geographical settings. Future studies are encouraged to explore the long-term impacts and sustainability of digital transformation strategies in SMEs.

Impact of digital transformation on global services trade flows

Abstract Globalization paired with rapid technological advancements has transformed the landscape of the services trade, positioning digital transformation as a critical determinant of trade flows. This analysis delves into how digital transformation influences global services trade flows, establishing a model to examine the dynamics between exports and imports. Through empirical analysis using cross-country panel data, the study reveals a positive correlation between digitalization and the activities of exporting and importing services. Notably, the escalation in digitalization level markedly boosts exports in telecommunication, information technology, and other business sectors. Factoring in controls such as exchange rates and trade efficiency, the findings highlight digital transformation’s role in elevating the growth rate of global services trade exports by 5.82%, especially pronounced in telecommunication and information services sectors. The study advocates for enhanced investment in digital infrastructure and policy innovation to minimize trade barriers and optimize global services trade flows.

Impacts of the advancement in artificial intelligence on laboratory medicine in low- and middle-income countries: Challenges and recommendations-A literature review.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in laboratory medicine, promising significant advancements in healthcare delivery. This study explores the potential impact of AI on diagnostics and patient management within the context of laboratory medicine, with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). In writing this article, we conducted a thorough search of databases such as PubMed, ResearchGate, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar within 20 years. The study examines AI's capabilities, including learning, reasoning, and decision-making, mirroring human cognitive processes. It highlights AI's adeptness at processing vast data sets, identifying patterns, and expediting the extraction of actionable insights, particularly in medical imaging interpretation and laboratory test data analysis. The research emphasizes the potential benefits of AI in early disease detection, therapeutic interventions, and personalized treatment strategies. In the realm of laboratory medicine, AI demonstrates remarkable precision in interpreting medical images such as radiography, computed tomography,and magnetic resonance imaging.Its predictive analytical capabilities extend to forecasting patient trajectories and informing personalized treatment strategies using comprehensive data sets comprising clinical outcomes, patient records, and laboratory results. The study underscores the significance of AI in addressing healthcare challenges, especially in resource-constrained LMICs. While acknowledging the profound impact of AI on laboratory medicine in LMICs, the study recognizes challenges such as inadequate data availability, digital infrastructure deficiencies, and ethical considerations. Successful implementation necessitates substantial investments in digital infrastructure, the establishment of data-sharing networks, and the formulation of regulatory frameworks. The study concludes that collaborative efforts among stakeholders, including international organizations, governments, and nongovernmental entities, are crucial for overcoming obstacles and responsibly integrating AI into laboratory medicine in LMICs. A comprehensive, coordinated approach is essential for realizing AI's transformative potential and advancing health care in LMICs.

Transformation of Public Service: Rise of Technology, AI and Automation

The rapid advancement of technology has proven beneficial for enhancing efficiency, transparency, responsiveness, and effectiveness in the administration of public services. The internalization of technological innovations, including AI and automation, has become imperative to address the increasing needs and expectations of citizens in modern governance. Various developed and developing countries have revolutionized public services through the adoption of AI and automation. Nepal has made strides in digital governance, advancing from a paper-based form of governance to digital governance. Moreover, the Digital Nepal Framework aspires to restructure the economy through increased service delivery, production, and productivity by harnessing digital technology. The issues of the digital divide, ethical and responsible adoption of AI, citizen engagement and participation, and inclusiveness have been challenging. The government should prioritize investments in digital infrastructure, encourage tech innovations, and promote capacity development in the field of technology.

Modeling barriers to adoption of digitization in supply chains using FTOPSIS and its impact on sustainability TBL

PurposeThis article aims at - exploring and prioritizing the barriers to adoption of digitization in supply chains (SCs), categorizing them into sustainability triple bottom line (STBL) based upon their direct impact and suggesting digital technologies to address each barrier.Design/methodology/approachA five-phase methodology is used which consists of an exploration of 44 barriers to the adoption of digitization in SCs, analysis of 44 barriers for mean, standard deviation and Cronbach alpha based on questionnaire-based feedback of 25 experts, extraction of 10 most significant barriers through 05 experts, followed by categorization of the barriers into STBL referring to their direct impact on STBL, prioritization of ten barriers using Fuzzy Technique for Order Performance by Similarity to Ideal Solution and recommendation of digital technologies to address each barrier.FindingsWhile all the barriers considered in this study significantly impede the adoption of digitization in SCs, lack of top management commitment (B1) is found to be most crucial while lack of culture toward use of information and communication technology required for digitization (B3) has minimum impact. Large investment in digital infrastructure (B6), difficulty in integration of cyber physical systems (CPSs) on varied platforms (B8) and lack of experts having knowledge of digital technologies (B2) are equally important barriers requiring more attention while adopting digitization in SCs.Research limitations/implicationsThis study is mainly based on feedback from 25 seasoned experts; a wider cross section of experts will give more insight.Practical implicationsThe outcomes are very significant for organizations looking to adopt digitization in their SCs. Simultaneous consideration to all the barriers becomes impractical hence prioritization of same will be useful for the SC managers to benchmark their preparedness and decide strategies for the adoption of digitization with due consideration toward the impact of barriers on STBL. The digital technologies recommended will further aid in planning the digital strategies to address each barrier.Originality/valueA unique approach to explore, analyze, prioritize and categorize the barriers to adoption of digitization in SCs is used to provide a deeper understanding of factors deterring the same. It implies that a supportive top management along with systematic allocation of finances plays a crucial role. The importance of availability of digital experts for integrating CPSs on a single platform is also highlighted. The digital technologies recommended will further assist the organizations toward adoption of digitization in SCs with due consideration to STBL.

The Impact of Investment Efficiency in the Digital Economy on Urban Waste Reduction: Evidence from China

This study aims to explore the relationship between the development of the digital economy and urban waste management practices, with a specific focus on their impact on landfill and incineration disposal methods. The research objective is to enhance our understanding of interdependencies in these domains and offer insights for the formulation of more efficient waste management strategies. Through empirical analysis, the study shows a significant influence of the digital economy on urban waste disposal volumes. Moreover, the provided results show a negative impact of the efficiency of digital infrastructure investment on urban waste disposal volumes. These findings suggest that enhancing the efficiency of investment in digital infrastructure could alleviate the strain on waste disposal strategies, thus helping to reduce environmental pollution. The findings of this study provide valuable insights and suggest directions for future research in pursuit of sustainable waste management practices in the evolving context of the digital economy.
