Connecting Actors With the Introduction of Mobile Technology in Health Care Practice Placements (4D Project): Protocol for a Mixed Methods Study.

The learning process in clinical placements for health care students is a multifaceted endeavor that engages numerous actors and stakeholders, including students, clinical tutors, link teachers, and academic assessors. Successfully navigating this complex process requires the implementation of tasks and mentorships that are synchronized with educational and clinical processes, seamlessly embedded within their respective contexts. Given the escalating number of students and the rising demand for health care services from the general population, it becomes imperative to develop additional tools that support the learning process. These tools aim to simplify day-to-day clinical practice, allowing a concentrated focus on value-based activities. This paper introduces a project funded by the European Commission that involves 5 European countries. The project's objective is to comprehensively outline the entire process of development and ultimately implement mobile technology in practice placements. The project tackles the existing gap by constructing tailored mobile apps designed for students, teachers, tutors, and supervisors within each participating organization. This approach leverages practice-based learning, mobile technology, and technology adoption to enhance the overall educational experience. This study aims to introduce mobile technology in clinical practice placements with the goal of facilitating and enhancing practice-based learning. The objective is to improve the overall effectiveness of the process for all stakeholders involved. The "4D in the Digitalization of Learning in Practice Placement" (4D Project) will use a mixed methods research design, encompassing 3 distinct study phases: phase 1 (preliminary research), which incorporates focus groups and a scoping review, to define the problem, identify necessities, and analyze contextual factors; phase 2 (collaborative app development), which involves researchers and prospective users working together to cocreate and co-design tailored apps; and phase 3, which involves feasibility testing of these mobile apps within practice settings. The study's potential impact will primarily focus on improving communication and interaction processes, fostering connections among stakeholders in practice placements, and enhancing the assessment of training needs. The literature review and focus groups will play a crucial role in identifying barriers, facilitators, and factors supporting the integration of mobile technology in clinical education. The cocreation process of mobile learning apps will reveal the core values and needs of various stakeholders, including students, teachers, and health care professionals. This process also involves adapting and using mobile apps to meet the specific requirements of practice placements. A pilot study aimed at validating the app will test and assess mobile technology in practice placements. The study will determine results related to usability and design, learning outcomes, student engagement, communication among stakeholders, user behavior, potential issues, and compliance with regulations. Health care education, encompassing disciplines such as medicine, nursing, midwifery, and others, confronts evolving challenges in clinical training. Essential to addressing these challenges is bridging the gap between health care institutions and academic settings. The introduction of mobile technologies’s included users in the mobile world with new features. The progress of mobile marketing has affected the development of the mobile application market. Mobile applications, which developed in parallel with the development of mobile marketing, helped the development of new applications in the health sector. Developing mobile technologies’re becoming widespread in the health sector. With the mobile health applications developed, different opportunities can be offered to patients or users who want a healthier lifestyle, and the applications can have the power to increase the quality of life of people. One of the rising values in mobile health applications’s gamification. With gamification, health services can be offered to the user in a mobile environment. It aims to monitor their health by rewarding its users because it’s motivational on the basis of gamification. The gaming experience leads to the formation of loyalty towards the mobile application with the value created by the user by connecting to the mobile application. In this research, the effect of game experiences on customer loyalty as a result of gamified content in mobile health applications was investigated. As a result of the research, it’s been shown that the game experience dimensions in mobile health applications’ve a positive effect on customer loyalty and suggested that healthcare companies or application developers can apply gamification strategies in their mobile applications to increase the loyalty of their customers.

RETRACTED: Music education: Which is more effective – Traditional learning or the introduction of modern technologies to increase student motivation?

The introduction of mobile technologies and platforms in music education improves the efficiency of the educational process and can influence the motivation of students in higher educational institutions. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of the traditional educational program and the program with the introduction of interactive music services, as well as to identify the impact of the introduction of specialized applications in the vocal training process on student motivation. The study relies on two vocal training apps: Yousician and Voice Training: Learn To Sing. A total of 322 students from three Chinese educational institutions took part in the experiment. The effectiveness of the use of mobile applications in the context of teaching students vocal skills and increasing their motivation for learning was established. It is worth noting that the Voice Training: Learn To Sing application has shown itself to be more effective, which can be explained by the clear specialization of this software, while Yousician was created not only to teach learners to sing but also to play musical instruments, which is what most of the app functionality is devoted to. There was an increase in the motivation of students from groups B and C when using interactive mobile environments by 24.8 % and 38.8 %, respectively. It was also shown that high rates of student motivation were ensured by the introduction of modern interactive environments in vocal training. This study can help in shaping the experience of using modern technologies in the context of rising student motivation.

РАЗРАБОТКА МЕТОДИКИ ГЕОИНФОРМАЦИОННОГО КАРТОГРАФИРОВАНИЯ ЛЕСНОГО ХОЗЯЙСТВА С ПРИМЕНЕНИЕМ МОБИЛЬНЫХ ТЕХНОЛОГИЙ

The article is devoted to the development of a methodology for geoinformation mapping of forest-ry, designed, to ensure the elimination of paper cartographic materials at the stage of field contour identification during forest management work. The purpose of the study is to develop methodological foundations of geoinformation mapping of forestry using mobile technologies. The article provides an analysis of current methods of mapping products during forest management, as well as a study of do-mestic and foreign experience in the introduction of mobile technologies in forestry. The probable fac-tors constraining the rejection of paper cartographic materials at the stage of field contour identifica-tion were found. The developed scheme for creating cartographic products during forest management using mobile technologies is presented. The main stages of the developed methodology are described, which is designed to ensure the rejection of paper materials at the stage of field contour decryption and collection of thematic information in the field, which will significantly reduce financial, labor and time costs.

Using mobile technologies to enhance learning and improve student engagement in the dance studio

ABSTRACT This collaboration between the dance and learning technology departments at Bath Spa University, sought to develop a dance repertoire module with the use of mobile technologies, in order to enhance collaborative and discursive opportunities for students. The introduction of mobile technologies into a face-to-face teaching environment initiated a blended model of teaching and learning whereby the technology became a partner to the existing practice. The module was taught within the first year of the BA(Hons) Dance course, with 39 female and three male undergraduate students participating over a two-year period. The purpose of the project was to apply specialist ICT knowledge to teaching spaces, in order to diversify established practices. In light of this purpose, the project design was driven by Cultural Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) whereby historically established working methods are brought to question through a new tool; the mobile application ‘Coach’s Eye’. Through the collection of tutor observations, student journals and post-project interviews, it was clear that Coach’s Eye had facilitated a more democratic environment and greater range of activity. The extent to which the addition of technologically-supported learning improved student engagement and enhanced the learning would require further research utilising data designed for that purpose.

MOBILE TECHNOLOGIES IN THE HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM

The article examines aspects of the use of mobile technologies in the higher education system. The advantages and disadvantages of mobile learning are presented. Directions and examples of the application of various mobile services and technologies in educational activities are proposed. It is noted that in the modern educational environment there is still a limited use of mobile technologies, their use as a way to disseminate knowledge, and not as cognitive tools. Today, the most common use of mobile devices is still storing and retrieving information, teaching materials, and scheduling. Several directions of using mobile devices in the learning process have been proposed. The conclusion was made about the novelty of the application and introduction of mobile technologies in the educational environment, the prospects and potential of mobile education in education.

ATOPE+: An mHealth System to Support Personalized Therapeutic Exercise Interventions in Patients With Cancer

The introduction of mobile technologies in therapeutic exercise interventions has permitted the collection of fine-grained objective quantified information about patients' health. However, exercise interventions generally fail to leverage these data when personalizing the exercise needs of patients individually. Interventions that include technology-driven personalization strategies typically rely on the use of expensive laboratory equipment with expert supervision, or in the self-management of patients to meet the prescribed exercise levels by an activity tracker. These methods often do not perform better than non technology-driven methods, therefore more sophisticated strategies are required to improve the personalization process. In this paper we present ATOPE+, an mHealth system to support personalized exercise interventions in patients with cancer based on workload-recovery ratio estimation. ATOPE+ enables the remote assessment of workload-recovery ratio to provide optimal exercise dosage by means of a knowledge-based system and by combining physiological data from heterogeneous data sources in a multilevel architecture. The results show that ATOPE+ is a system ready to be used in the context of a clinical trial after being tested with patients with breast cancer and conducting an usability evaluation by clinical experts.

Collaborative Mobile Learning with Smartphones in Higher Education

<p class="0abstract">The advantages of mobile learning and the possibility of universal access to educational materials have a downside in the form of a possible lack of communication between the student, his/her teachers, and course mates. In this context, collaborative teaching methods can be applied to support learners in solving educational challenges. The objective of this work was to analyze the effectiveness of collaborative approaches in mobile learning. The research methods included two stages: an experiment on the introduction of collaborative mobile learning into the educational process and an online sociological survey. The use of the questionnaire method resulted from the need to collect quantitative data and analyze the effectiveness of training by determining the shares of respondents with positive and negative opinions toward m-learning. The examination was conducted in 2020 among 190 undergraduate sociology students studying at three universities of the Russian Federation (Moscow State Pedagogical University, M.K. Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University, and Tyumen State University), as well as among 76 undergraduate students of the direction "Education" studying at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University. The main practical result of this experiment was the introduction of mobile technologies in the previously used e-learning models and learning management systems of the considered educational institutions. The collaborative mobile environment was based on the principles of communication and cooperation of users, mutual learning, and teacher coordination of students' actions. The study confirmed that collaborative mobile learning could be flexibly transited from blended to distance learning models and vice versa. The analysis of the survey outcomes proved the validity of eight proposed hypotheses, both in terms of mobile learning impact on the quality of education and the influence of the collaborative environment on the development of students' competencies. The practical significance of research findings is in the fact that they allow the effective implementation of collaborative mobile learning technologies to form students' professional competencies.</p>

Lived experiences of nursing students about ethical concerns regarding mobile learning in educational and clinical contexts

The field of education has experienced a profound change following the introduction of mobile technology over the last decades, and nursing education is not an exception. This study explored the experiences of nursing students about the ethical concerns regarding the use of mobile devices for learning purposes, that is, mobile learning, in educational and clinical contexts. A qualitative phenomenological study was carried out on nursing students (n = 19) in Saveh University of Medical Sciences of Iran between December 2017 and April 2018. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions. Data analysis was done using Colaizzi's 7-step method, revealing four themes and nine sub-themes including: 1) preserving professional dignity (in front of the patient, and the teacher, and preserving academic virtual identity); 2) securing informed consent and respecting personal (the patient's and teachers) autonomy; 3) proper and efficient use (observing the regulations and codes, and making educational use); and 4) avoiding harm (responsible use of class and patient data). It was revealed that using mobile technology in education could raise ethical concerns for nursing students, and this should be emphasized in nursing educational programs.

Reciprocal Relationships between Trajectories of Depressive Symptoms and Screen Media Use during Adolescence

Adolescents are constantly connected with each other and the digital landscape through a myriad of screen media devices. Unprecedented access to the wider world and hence a variety of activities, particularly since the introduction of mobile technology, has given rise to questions regarding the impact of this changing media environment on the mental health of young people. Depressive symptoms are one of the most common disabling health issues in adolescence and although research has examined associations between screen use and symptoms of depression, longitudinal investigations are rare and fewer still consider trajectories of change in symptoms. Given the plethora of devices and normalisation of their use, understanding potential longitudinal associations with mental health is crucial. A sample of 1,749 (47% female) adolescents (10–17 years) participated in six waves of data collection over two years. Symptoms of depression, time spent on screens, and on separate screen activities (social networking, gaming, web browsing, TV/passive) were self-reported. Latent growth curve modelling revealed three trajectories of depressive symptoms (low-stable, high-decreasing, and low-increasing) and there were important differences across these groups on screen use. Some small, positive associations were evident between depressive symptoms and later screen use, and between screen use and later depressive symptoms. However, a Random Intercept Cross Lagged Panel Model revealed no consistent support for a longitudinal association. The study highlights the importance of considering differential trajectories of depressive symptoms and specific forms of screen activity to understand these relationships.

Exploration of Recent Mobile Technologies Applied in Nursing Education

The development of science and technology has fundamentally changed people's lives and the way that medical systems function. Increasingly, mobile technologies are being introduced and integrated into classroom teaching and clinical applications, resulting in healthcare providers introducing innovative applications into health education. These applications enhance the clinical, education, and research expertise of medical staffs and nurses, while improving quality of care and providing new experiences for patients. In order to understand the current situation and trends in nursing education, the present study adopted literature analysis to explore the influence and effect of mobile technologies that have been introduced into nursing education from the school and clinical environments. The results found that students hold positive attitudes toward introducing these technologies into their curricula. Although these technologies may increase the work efficiency of nurses in the workplace, questions remain user perceptions and professional expression. Therefore, securing patient agreement and healthcare system approval were major turning points in the introduction of mobile technologies into nursing education. In the future, adapting mobile technologies for use in teaching materials and courses may be further developed. Moreover, empirical studies may be used in future research in order to facilitate the increasingly successful integration of relevant technologies into nursing education.

Mobile phone use in two secondary schools in Tanzania

Mobile phone technology in Tanzania has grown rapidly but there is insufficient data on its application in schools. This paper aims to show how students in the first and third year (F1 and F3) teachers in two rural secondary schools perceived its use. F1 and F3 students completed a questionnaire. Teachers and students in F1 and F3 discussed the uses and misuses of mobile phones in separate focus groups. Although they served similar areas the two schools differed in students’ use – and awareness of misuse – of mobile phones. Most students had access to a mobile phone, but were not permitted to bring them to school. Few teachers could see a positive use for the technology in the curriculum. There is an urgent need for pedagogical resources to support the introduction of mobile technology into classrooms but equally it is crucial that any such introduction is through a process of engagement with the concerns of students, teachers and the wider community with frank discussion about both the dangers and the potential benefits of using mobile phones in learning.

“Apps, Phones and Tabs” the Role of Technology in Bedside Teaching

Bedside teaching is a mainstay of medical education. The development of clinical and practical skills, the use of patient centered care and the team approach cannot be underestimated, although bedside teaching has seen a decline over the recent period. This is possibly due to a combination of patient embarrassment, the pressure placed on doctors to maximize patient treatment time and shorten their stay in hospital, and the recognized effect on training by the European Working Time Directive. Technology has strongly influenced the development of medicine over the ages, and since the introduction of mobile technology, it has advanced dramatically over the last two decades. The ease of access to a worldwide source of medical opinion has meant that education for both doctors and patients can be hand held and ever present, including at the bedside, with smartphones and tablet computers now an integral part of modern day life. This review will focus on the potential role and ability of the app to modernise a traditional teaching method, both for the junior doctor and medical student and for the impact on patient education.

Mobile Applications at a Mega University: Anadolu University Campus App

This paper explores the use of mobile applications to aid on-campus and off-campus students at a mega university. Anadolu University — with over 1,900,000 students enrolled from over 30 countries — is the world's second largest university by enrolment(List of largest universities by enrolment, 2014). From its early days, the Universityhas used various means to access its students. During the last decade,with the introduction of mobile technologies and smartphones that are connected everywhere, the expectations of students have changed. Students now expect to be in contact with their educational institutions without any barriers. Anadolu University released its first mobile campus app onaniOS platform in May 2012. Students adopted the App quickly and the mobile app user community requested new functionalities. Since then,the University has released three major and over 25 minor releases of the app on both iOS and Android smartphones. This paper describes the lifecycle of Anadolu Campus App and its evolution over the years. It has been widely acceptedby our students both on campus and off campus, andthe increasing number of users gives an insight into the high rate of adoption of smartphones.

Changes in Brain Glioma Incidence and Laterality Correlates with Use of Mobile Phones - a Nationwide Population Based Study in Israel

Mobile phones are in extensive use worldwide and concerns regarding their role in tumor formation were raised. Over the years multiple studies were published in order to investigate this issue using several approaches. The current study looks at secular trends of brain gliomas (low and high grade) incidence and changes in tumor's laterality over 30 years in a population extensively using this technology with a possible correlation to the spread of use of mobile phones. All brain gliomas that were diagnosed from 1980-2009 were included and subdivided into two groups--low and high grade. Secular and periodic time trend analyses of incidence rates and changes in laterality were performed. Preferred side of head using mobile phones was assessed with a questionnaire in a sample of adult individuals. A decrease in incidence of low grade giomas (LGG) that correlated with introduction of mobile technology was found from 2.57, 2.34 and 2.79 for every 100,000 in the period 1980 to the end of 1994 to 1.72, 1.82 and 1.57, respectively, over the last three 5-years periods (1995-2009). High-grade glioma incidences increased significantly from 1980-2009 but in the period after mobile phones were introduced (1994-2009) a lower, non significant, rate of increase was observed in males and a lower one (significant) in females. A shift towards left sided tumor location for all adult gliomas combined and separately for LGG and HGG was noted from 1995 onward. The shift was more marked for those who were diagnosed in ages 20-49 (p=0.03). We found a statistically significant decrease in LGG's over 30-years period that correlates with introducing of mobile phones technology and a shift in laterality towards left-sided tumors, the latter occurred in both low and high-grade gliomas.

How to create new services between library resources, museum exhibitions and virtual collections

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to discuss the main opportunities and challenges related to the introduction of mobile technologies.Design/methodology/approachThe authors present an ongoing project in which they are connecting these materials in new services and open ways. The authors outline two paradigms for using mobile technologies as information tools and discuss the main opportunities and challenges related to the introduction of mobile technologies in the library, as well as the likely usage scenarios.FindingsThe authors found that the mobile as storage paradigm is the one presenting more opportunities to explore. This paradigm can be used to turn any passive document into an interactive object and provide the user with enriched documents and collections.Originality/valueThe paper is the result of a collaboration between library experts and a cognitive science research laboratory. The opportunities and limits of using mobile technologies to create new services in libraries is discussed both from the point of view of library services and from the point of view of users, cognitive abilities.

Mobile blogs in language learning: making the most of informal and situated learning opportunities

AbstractThe application of mobile technologies to learning has the potential to facilitate the active participation of learners in the creation and delivery of content. Mobile technologies can also provide a powerful connection between a variety of formal and informal learning contexts and can help to build a community of learners. However these versatile tools present challenges to educators and learners alike. The paper discusses the pedagogical challenges that result from the introduction of mobile technologies in language learning in the context of an intensive week of study abroad. We describe and evaluate a pilot project that uses mobile blogging to promote a constructivist, situated and informal learning experience of the foreign language and culture based on theories of active learning. We aim to encourage interaction and a sense of community among learners outside formal educational environments and in different locations as we ask them to engage with the foreign culture by capturing, sharing and reflecting on their experiences for their peers.
