BLOCKCHAIN AND ITS APPLICATION IN THE DEFENCE SECTOR

The digital transformation of the economy affects many sectors, including the defence sector, which is sensitive from both a national and international perspective. The digitalisation of the economy is based on technologies such as robotics, autonomy, additive manufacturing technologies (3D printing), augmented reality, big data, quantum computers, artificial intelligence and blockchains. In this article, we will take a closer look at the latter, namely blockchain technology. We will briefly outline its main properties and advantages, which make it particularly attractive for use in the defence sector, and dwell on its application to implement such a tool as smart contracts. One of the key advantages of blockchain in the context of military operations is ensuring transparency and traceability of supplies. In today's realities, logistical problems can cost lives, but blockchain helps prevent fraud and improve coordination between interacting communication nodes. Thanks to the use of blockchain technologies, each unit of supply can be recorded in an immutable register, which allows you to track its path from sender to recipient. This reduces the risk of loss or theft, and simplifies the process of monitoring and verifying the accuracy of information about deliveries. In addition, the decentralised nature of the blockchain enhances the security of military communications, protecting them from interception and attack. Each message is encrypted in such a way that it can only be read by the addressee. This ensures a high level of confidentiality and data protection, as information transmitted through the blockchain is distributed among numerous network nodes, making it difficult for attackers to access. By using cryptographic methods, the blockchain ensures that even in the event of a successful attack, attackers will not be able to alter or falsify information. Creating a tamper-proof ID system will help fight counterfeiting and improve the process of identifying wounded or fallen soldiers. By assigning unique and unchangeable authenticators to personnel, equipment or weapons, one hundred per cent identification of military entities can be ensured. This allows for accurate tracking of the movement and status of each soldier and equipment, which contributes to more efficient resource management. This system also increases the level of trust in the information provided, as it is recorded in the blockchain and cannot be changed or deleted. The introduction of blockchain technology in the defence sector can bring significant benefits, including increased security, transparency and efficiency. However, this process is accompanied by numerous challenges and risks that need to be considered and overcome for successful integration.

Graph Neural Network Based Asynchronous Federated Learning for Digital Twin-Driven Distributed Multi-Agent Dynamical Systems

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G paradigm brings infinite possibilities for data annotation for new applications in the industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). However, the problem of data annotation consistency under distributed architectures and growing concerns about issues such as data privacy and cybersecurity are major obstacles to improving the quality of distributed data annotation. In this paper, we propose a reputation-based asynchronous federated learning approach for digital twins. First, this paper integrates digital twins into an asynchronous federated learning framework, and utilizes a smart contract-based reputation mechanism to enhance the interconnection and internal interaction of asynchronous mobile terminals. In addition, in order to enhance security and privacy protection in the distributed smart annotation system, this paper introduces blockchain technology to optimize the data exchange, storage, and sharing process to improve system security and reliability. The data results show that the consistency of our proposed FedDTrep distributed intelligent labeling system reaches 99%.

Decision on the introduction of blockchain technology in green supply chains considering altruistic preferences

Purpose This paper aims to examine the blockchain introduction and altruistic preference decisions of the supplier in agricultural food supply chains and discuss how the supplier decisions are influenced by blockchain technology and altruistic preference levels. Design/methodology/approach The author considers a single period two-level supply chain model to describe the supplier’s decisions. The supplier, as the leader of the game, decides whether to introduce blockchain technology and his own level of altruistic preferences. Consumers have environmental awareness and heterogeneity in green trust. Supply chain members determine their own product pricing and green effort level under Stackelberg game. Findings The results reveal the negative impact of unit verification cost in the technology introduction process on the supply chain. In addition, the supplier can adjust their profits by adjusting their altruistic preferences after introducing blockchain to offset the impact of blockchain through the influence of altruistic preferences as discussed by the author. Originality/value This paper investigates how the profits and green efforts of supply chain members are influenced by blockchain technology and altruistic preferences.

Blockchain technology empowers the cross-border dual-channel supply chain: Introduction strategy, tax differences, optimal decisions

Fueled by the widespread adoption of blockchain technology in supply chain management and international trade, this paper develops a cross-border dual-channel supply chain consisting of a domestic manufacturer, a domestic cross-border e-commerce company, and an overseas physical store. This paper aims to explore the impacts of tax differences, market competition intensity, consumers’ sensitivity to products with blockchain attributes, blockchain technology investment costs, and production quantity deviations on the strategies for adopting blockchain technology. Through simulation analysis, this study compares blockchain investment efforts, wholesale prices, retail prices, and the profits generated by supply chain members across different scenarios. The results show that when production quantity deviations are greater than 0, the domestic manufacturer’s adoption of blockchain technology provides free-riding benefits to other supply chain members, thereby enhancing the overall profitability of the supply chain. However, the introduction of blockchain technology by the domestic manufacturer does not always yield benefits; when the production quantity deviations are less than 0 and the blockchain investment cost coefficient is too high, it decreases the willingness of the domestic manufacturer to adopt blockchain technology. Moreover, from a profit maximization perspective, regardless of the changes in production quantity deviations and whether the domestic manufacturer introduces blockchain technology, both the domestic cross-border e-commerce company and the overseas physical store should adopt blockchain technology. Finally, The five influencing factors mentioned earlier will, to some extent, affect the profits and decision-making of supply chain members, suggesting that these members should vigilantly track these variables.

A Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning-Based Task-Offloading Strategy in a Blockchain-Enabled Edge Computing Network

In recent years, many mobile edge computing network solutions have enhanced data privacy and security and built a trusted network mechanism by introducing blockchain technology. However, this also complicates the task-offloading problem of blockchain-enabled mobile edge computing, and traditional evolutionary learning and single-agent reinforcement learning algorithms are difficult to solve effectively. In this paper, we propose a blockchain-enabled mobile edge computing task-offloading strategy based on multi-agent reinforcement learning. First, we innovatively propose a blockchain-enabled mobile edge computing task-offloading model by comprehensively considering optimization objectives such as task execution energy consumption, processing delay, user privacy metrics, and blockchain incentive rewards. Then, we propose a deep reinforcement learning algorithm based on multiple agents sharing a global memory pool using the actor–critic architecture, which enables each agent to acquire the experience of another agent during the training process to enhance the collaborative capability among agents and overall performance. In addition, we adopt attenuatable Gaussian noise into the action space selection process in the actor network to avoid falling into the local optimum. Finally, experiments show that this scheme’s comprehensive cost calculation performance is enhanced by more than 10% compared with other multi-agent reinforcement learning algorithms. In addition, Gaussian random noise-based action space selection and a global memory pool improve the performance by 38.36% and 43.59%, respectively.

Improving business processes in the agricultural sector considering economic security, digitalization, risks, and artificial intelligence

The study aimed to address ways to improve the efficiency of agribusiness through the introduction of modern technologies and innovative approaches. The methods of quantitative and qualitative analysis of financial indicators, analytical reviews, and specific examples of technology implementation were used to achieve this goal. The study emphasises the impact of digitalisation of the agricultural sector on improving economic security, efficiency and competitiveness. The introduction of digital technologies, such as the Internet of Things, process automation and precision farming, is helping to optimise production processes, reduce costs and improve product quality. The study results show that the concept of smart farming significantly increases the efficiency of agribusiness. The use of Big Data, blockchain technologies, drones and satellite technologies provides better management of agribusiness, while artificial intelligence helps to predict yields and optimise agricultural processes. Risk management in the agricultural sector, including insurance and financial instruments to hedge price fluctuations, is a key factor in enhancing economic stability. The experience of leading global companies such as John Deere, Agricultural Bank of China, Fruition Sciences, TE-FOOD and FieldView has shown the effectiveness of digital technologies and innovations in improving efficiency and sustainable development. Particular attention is devoted to the problems and prospects for the introduction of modern technologies in the agricultural sector of Ukraine on the example of Myronivsky Hliboproduct. An integrated model for improving the business processes of Myronivsky Hliboproduct is proposed, including the digitalisation of production processes, the introduction of blockchain technologies, the use of AI and risk management. Necessary steps to overcome existing challenges, such as insufficient funding for innovation, infrastructure constraints, staff training and cybersecurity, were determined. The implementation of the proposed measures will allow the company to become a leader in the implementation of innovations in the agricultural sector of Ukraine, increase competitiveness and ensure sustainable development in the future

Application of Blockchain Technology in Coal Mine Waste Treatment

With the sustainable development of coal mine industry, coal mine garbage disposal has become a key factor restricting the sustainable development of the industry. In order to meet this challenge, this paper analyzes how blockchain technology provides a new solution for coal mine garbage disposal. Through the introduction of blockchain technology, the comprehensive monitoring and transparent management of coal mine garbage disposal process are realized, and the treatment efficiency and credibility are significantly improved. Specifically, blockchain technology is used for data recording and traceability, ensuring the authenticity and traceability of garbage disposal information; The application of intelligent contract realizes the automation and intelligence of processing flow, reduces human intervention and improves processing efficiency; At the same time, combined with the incentive mechanism, the enthusiasm of all parties to participate in garbage disposal has been stimulated. In the future, blockchain technology will be integrated with other advanced technologies to promote the intelligence and efficiency of coal mine garbage disposal and contribute to environmental protection and sustainable development.

A blockchain‐based and microservices‐architected software composition analysis system

Abstract“Shift To Left” is the cornerstone of the successful implementation of DevSecOps. By testing projects for vulnerabilities in the early stages of development, teams can save overall costs before security issues reach the build phase. As one of the popular practices in “Shift To Left,” the Software Composition Analysis (SCA) system aims to leverage the Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) to enhance software supply chain security. However, the SBOM lacks mature generation and distribution mechanisms, requiring incentive measures to drive industry consensus. Additionally, the data and tools associated with the SBOM lack effective record‐keeping and monitoring, making it challenging to ensure data integrity and tool security. Traditional SCA systems treat SBOM as a regular data format for external service provision, yet fail to solve problems such as lack of shared platforms, inability to guarantee data integrity and tool security, as well as issues with poor interoperation compatibility. This paper introduces blockchain technology into the SCA system, utilizing smart contracts to provide core SBOM tool services and microservices to improve the operational efficiency of smart contract deployment and maintenance. The proposed SCA system effectively provides a shared platform for SBOM with reliable data integrity, guaranteed tool security, and good interoperability.

Applying Blockchain, Causal Loop Diagrams, and the Analytical Hierarchy Process to Enhance Fifth-Generation Ceramic Antenna Manufacturing: A Technology–Organization–Environment Framework Approach

This study used a technology–organization–environment (TOE) framework as the primary analytical tool to explore the burgeoning capabilities of blockchain technology in the area of 5G ceramic antenna development. A causal loop diagram (CLD) analysis is used to further clarify the complex dynamics and feedback mechanisms, and the impact of blockchain on the design, production, and deployment phases of ceramic antennas, which play a pivotal role in the development of 5G communications, is studied. We found that blockchain’s unique features, including its immutable ledger and decentralized architecture, have the potential to significantly improve the transparency, security, and efficiency of the ceramic antenna manufacturing process. Technology (T), organization (O), and environment (E) were used as the top factors, and the subfactors of TOE were selected and analyzed using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) by CLD. The AHP analysis was used to evaluate the relative importance of various internal and external factors affecting the adoption of blockchain technology. The integration of the TOE framework with AHP and CLD provides a comprehensive analytical tool that enhances the understanding of the complex dynamics in the 5G ceramic antenna manufacturing process. This methodological approach not only clarifies the interactions between technological, organizational, and environmental factors but also facilitates strategic decision-making through a structured evaluation of these factors. The AHP analysis showed that technical factors are the most important in the TOE analysis of 5G ceramic antenna manufacturing, with a weight of 0.427, which indicates the important role of technical factors in the development of ceramic antenna production. In addition, environmental and organizational factors were given weights of 0.302 and 0.271, respectively, confirming the importance of technological innovation and internal process optimization. In the subfactor of Technology (T), ‘Blockchain Technology’ has the highest ranking among the subfactors, with a global weight value of 0.129, emphasizing the importance of blockchain technology. This study explored the technical and organizational complexities of introducing blockchain technology into the 5G ceramic antenna manufacturing industry and, through an in-depth investigation of the potential benefits of such integration, it aims to propose new approaches to improve quality control and manufacturing efficiency. The research findings aim to contribute to the sustainable growth of the telecommunications industry by providing strategic recommendations for the application of blockchain technology in the production of 5G ceramic antennas.

Blockchain-driven framework for construction waste recycling and reuse

Conventional management mechanisms for construction waste recycling and reuse (CWRR) often cause considerable information asymmetry, inadequate government supervision, and imperfect incentive mechanisms, resulting in frequent illegal dumping and landfilling of construction waste and relatively low recycling rates. To address these issues, we introduce blockchain technology to CWRR. The design science research methodology was adopted to identify the main steps in functional requirement identification and blockchain framework development for CWRR. To explain how blockchain can improve the CWRR process, a conceptual model for the functional requirements of the proposed framework was constructed using qualitative analysis. A blockchain-driven framework was developed to overcome practical barriers in the CWRR industry. Based on scenario simulation results, the proposed framework had execution and transaction costs of $4.735 and $1.276, respectively, and latency performance at the millisecond level. The results indicate that (1) based on specific problems systematically identified from CWRR practices, the proposed framework can address practical barriers in the CWRR industry more directly; (2) the CWRR industry can use blockchain technology to achieve information sharing, comprehensive government supervision, and effective incentive mechanisms and (3) the blockchain-driven framework has high efficacy and can promote efficient CWRR and high-quality development of CWRR industry chain. This management model is conducive to forming a collaborative CWRR industry chain that can lead to broader adoption of blockchain technology across industries.

Development of the circulation of digital financial assets in the world in the context of digital transformation

Aim. To study and describe the main trends in the development of the world market of digital financial assets in the conditions of digital transformation. Objectives. To disclose the essence and role of digital transformation at the present stage; to consider the emergence of digital financial assets and the possibilities of their application against the background of high growth rates of the cryptoasset market; to analyze the main indicators of digital currencies as of February 2024; to identify the key characteristics of the use of cryptocurrencies by different countries; to rank countries according to the index of cryptocurrency ownership for 2023; to describe the development trends of the circulation of digital financial assets in the world in the conditions of digital transformation.Methods. The study uses complex and logical approaches, general scientific methods (analysis, synthesis), methods of comparative and economic analysis, analytical processing and graphical presentation of information.Results. The leading trends in the development of the global market of digital financial assets in the conditions of digital transformation have been considered. The indicators of the top 10 largest digital currencies by market capitalization are highlighted. Based on the results of the study, the ranking of countries by the index of cryptocurrency ownership for 2023 was compiled. The main indicators of digital currencies for February 2024 were analyzed. The key characteristics of cryptocurrency use by different countries in the context of high rate of digital transformation were described.Conclusions. The results of the conducted research allowed us to conclude that the current transformation of the global economy, associated with the active development of breakthrough technologies, including distributed ledger technologies (DLT) and blockchain, has become a trigger for the emergence of digital financial assets and expanded the possibilities of their application in the context of high growth rate of the cryptoasset market. The analysis of the current state and development of the circulation of digital financial assets in the world under the conditions of digital transformation shows the growing interest in the use of cryptocurrencies and the introduction of blockchain technologies in the financial systems of various countries, as well as the growing use of cryptocurrencies by companies and individuals. Taking into account the review of global trends, development of fintech technologies, the conclusion is made about the inevitability of the processes of digitalization of financial assets, the emergence of new forms of digital assets, which dictate the need for advanced development of their legal regulation. In the future, the development of digital assets will give them the official status of a means of payment and expand their use in the system of financial relations in the conditions of digital transformation both in Russia and abroad.

Navigating the challenges of generative technologies: Proposing the integration of artificial intelligence and blockchain

The transformative impact of generative AI (GenAI), extending beyond traditional AI, raises numerous concerns including the replacement of human roles and AI misuse in an array of industries. This article introduces blockchain technology as a complementary technological safeguard to address some of these challenges. We emphasize blockchain’s role in promoting transparency, verifiability, and decentralization in AI development and usage, thereby offering potential solutions for four distinct challenges: (1) AI toxicity, biases, hallucinations, (2) AI interest misalignment, (3) AI as a black box, and (4) AI misuse. This article proposes ways to ensure responsible and transparent AI usage through the integration of blockchain. We position the convergence of AI and blockchain as a means to manage AI’s societal impact and unlock its benefits—contingent upon collaborative efforts among various stakeholders such as businesses, developers, and regulatory bodies. We contribute to the discourse on ethical AI usage and the potential of blockchain to enhance AI’s reliability and accountability for organizations.

Blockchain service platform evaluation with probabilistic linguistic preference information based on Choquet integral and ExpTODIM

The application of Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) can improve the treatment efficiency of medical institutions, but it still has hidden dangers in security and privacy. The introduction of blockchain technology into IoMT is expected to prevent these hidden dangers. This study proposes a multiple criteria decision aiding model to select a suitable blockchain service platform for IoMT to enhance its safety and reliability. The proposed model combines the probabilistic linguistic term set (PLTS), multiple criteria hierarchy process (MCHP), 2-additive Choquet integral and ExpTODIM method to assist decision-makers (DMs) to obtain a reliable and low-risk decision result. The MCHP is employed to analyze decision-making problems by hierarchical criteria. The 2-additive Choquet integral is adopted to reflect interactions between criteria, and parameter values in the 2-additive Choquet integral are indirectly determined based on the preference information of DMs. PLTSs are used to represent the evaluation information of experts and the preference information of DMs. The ExpTODIM (Exponential TODIM) method is adopted to rank alternatives considering the psychological characteristics of DMs. An illustrative example demonstrates the applicability and merits of the proposed model with comparative analysis.

Blockchain technology in the supply chain management classroom: Proof of Attendance Protocols

AbstractThis research demonstrates a method to introduce blockchain technology in the classroom based on the Proof of Attendance Protocol (POAP). A blockchain is a digital distributed ledger with the potential to improve transparency and trust between parties. Businesses are testing, piloting, and deploying blockchain technology across their organizations, and students show growing interest in the technology. This teaching brief proposes an exercise that uses POAPs, nonfungible tokens (NFTs) associated with an event, to help students understand blockchain technology within supply chain management contexts. Instructors can use the exercise for various purposes: as incentives for behavior the instructor wishes to encourage (such as attending class) or as prizes for games. The exercise also includes a glossary of blockchain‐related terms to introduce the language of this industry to students. Student surveys showed a significant change in their knowledge of blockchain technology, specifically, a 41% increase in understanding of how blockchain technology may benefit supply chain management and a 35% improvement in the ability to explain blockchain technology to others. This brief concludes with resources to create and distribute POAPs for courses and other settings.

TRANSFORMATION OF THE BUSINESS MODEL OF TOURISM ACTIVITIES WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY

Thanks to the ability of blockchain to form transparency of processes, it can become the basis of fundamental transformations in business relations in the tourism industry and radical transformations of business processes. In order for the potential of the blockchain in the tourism industry to be revealed most effectively, it is necessary to rebuild tourist business models based on it. The purpose of the presented research was to develop a conceptual business model of tourism industry enterprises operating on the basis of the blockchain platform. To achieve this goal, a redesign of the Osterwalder Canvas business model in the tourism sector was implemented on a blockchain platform. The main method of data collection was an expert survey conducted in the format of semistructured personal interviews. 12 respondents who are experts in the field of blockchain and tourism were selected to conduct the survey. The results of the study are reflected in the format of a business model. This study has several theoretical conclusions: firstly, the introduction of blockchain technology in tourism creates a new industry business model, secondly, the proposed model considers the tourism business market from a systemic point of view, thirdly, blockchain creates a unique opportunity to meet the needs of stakeholders and clients in the tourism sector through peer-to-peer interaction. The practical significance of the study is expressed in determining the important role of disintermediation and smart contracts in the tourism business model on the blockchain platform.

Financial Anti-Fraud Based on Dual-Channel Graph Attention Network

This article addresses the pervasive issue of fraud in financial transactions by introducing the Graph Attention Network (GAN) into graph neural networks. The article integrates Node Attention Networks and Semantic Attention Networks to construct a Dual-Head Attention Network module, enabling a comprehensive analysis of complex relationships in user transaction data. This approach adeptly handles non-linear features and intricate data interaction relationships. The article incorporates a Gradient-Boosting Decision Tree (GBDT) to enhance fraud identification to create the GBDT–Dual-channel Graph Attention Network (GBDT-DGAN). In a bid to ensure user privacy, this article introduces blockchain technology, culminating in the development of a financial anti-fraud model that fuses blockchain with the GBDT-DGAN algorithm. Experimental verification demonstrates the model’s accuracy, reaching 93.82%, a notable improvement of at least 5.76% compared to baseline algorithms such as Convolutional Neural Networks. The recall and F1 values stand at 89.5% and 81.66%, respectively. Additionally, the model exhibits superior network data transmission security, maintaining a packet loss rate below 7%. Consequently, the proposed model significantly outperforms traditional approaches in financial fraud detection accuracy and ensures excellent network data transmission security, offering an efficient and secure solution for fraud detection in the financial domain.

ВЛИЯНИЕ ЦИФРОВЫХ ФИНАНСОВЫХ ТЕХНОЛОГИЙ НА ИННОВАЦИОННЫЕ РЕШЕНИЯ В ФИНАНСОВОМ СЕКТОРЕ

The article deals with the influence of financial technologies in the digital economy and possible innovative solutions in the field of finance and financial services. The article considers a methodological approach to the implementation of blockchain technology in the Russian payment system “Mir”. It substantiates the main stages of introducing blockchain technology into the activities of that system. Proposals are made out for selecting the optimal partner for the development and implementation of blockchain for the “Mir” payment system. In particular it was proposed and justified how to introduce blockchain technologies into the work of the “Mir” payment system. Project proposals were generated and the project for introducing blockchain technologies into the work of the “Mir” payment system was justified, followed by calculation of the economic effect from the practical realization of project proposals. Economic forecast of the project introduction under realistic, optimistic and pessimistic scenarios was developed.

The use of blockchain technology in law enforcement

This article explores the possibilities of using blockchain technology in police work. Examples of the use of blockchain in various areas of police activity, such as personal data management, control of drug trafficking and other prohibited substances, traffic monitoring and the fight against cybercrime, are considered. The authors note that thanks to the storage of data in the blockchain, it becomes possible to increase the protection of the confidentiality of personal information, ensure transparency and efficiency of police work, as well as prevent fraud and corruption. The conclusion of the article emphasizes that the use of blockchain can improve the work of the police and ensure greater security of citizens. Distributed ledger technology, or blockchain as a service (BaaS) is indeed a relatively new product on the market that allows you to provide blockchain services for corporate clients. This solution allows you to use more reliable and secure methods of data processing and transaction management within the organization. All these economic effects can lead to a reduction in costs and an increase in the efficiency of the police. In general, the use of blockchain technology in the police can have a number of advantages, such as increasing transparency and accountability, reducing data processing time and combating data falsification. However, it is necessary to take into account some risks, such as the possibility of data privacy violations, as well as difficulties in integrating with existing systems and training personnel. In general, the introduction of blockchain technology into the police requires careful analysis and an approach that takes into account all aspects of the use of technology and its impact on the organization.

The article examines the history of the emergence of blockchain technology in order to understand its widespread implementation in many areas of modern human activity. It is defined that blockchain technology can be used to create an immutable or perpetual ledger for tracking orders, payments, invoices and other transactions. Thus, the researched technology is suitable for use in the field of finance and accounting. At its core, blockchain represents a type of distributed ledger technology, which is based on a token as an accounting object. This opens up opportunities for faster and more efficient financial transactions, as well as for the creation of new types of financial instruments. As a result of the study, the features of this innovative technology are revealed, namely: decentralization and immutability of data. The widespread use of blockchain technology in various fields has not bypassed auditing. In accounting and auditing, blockchain can serve as the basis for decentralized accounting systems, where every transaction is recorded and stored in on-chain blocks, ensuring that they are immutable and consistent. This can facilitate auditing, promote accounting accuracy, and provide greater transparency in financial operations. It is substantiated that the introduction of blockchain technology by auditing entities has a number of advantages and risks, which are described in the presented methodological study. Prospects for further research in this direction are to determine the efficiency of the use of the latest information technologies in the work of auditing entities and assess the potential risks that can arise in the auditing process.
