Cost Optimal Hybrid Communication Model for Smart Distribution Grid

There have been significant changes and dynamic growth in power grids since the inception of the smart grid. To ensure a self-sustainable grid, the power grid should facilitate the real-time sharing of the dynamic attributes of the power grid between the spatially distributed power grid elements. This demands a flawless design of the overlay communication network for a smart grid. However, instrumenting the entire grid with intelligent communication devices would be prohibitively expensive. A cost-optimal model is necessary to select the actual cardinality of intelligent communication devices required for the data transmission by ensuring its Quality of Service (QoS) metrics. This research work presents a smart distribution grid architecture with a network of microgrids and details the need for hybrid communication for intra-microgrid communication. A cost-optimal model is proposed to offer an optimal combination of technologies for intelligent devices in the hybrid communication overlay network. The formulation considers QoS metrics such as data packet latency, bandwidth requirement, link reliability, packet drops, and communication range of the technology to derive a cost-optimal solution. Based on this model, a Recursive Algorithm for Cost Optimal Combination of Communication Technology (RACOCCT) for a power grid topology is presented in this work. The simulation study performed on selected power grid topology based on the Standard IEEE 33 bus network reveals the cost-optimal combination of hybrid wireless communication technologies for the varying probability of link unreliability.

A Congestion Aware Route Suggestion Protocol for Traffic Management in Internet of Vehicles

Nowadays, both the modern and developing countries are planning to deploy Internet of Vehicles for smart transportation systems to face the traffic congestion problems. Shifting from current road conditions to smart ones is a real challenge where all the vehicles and road infrastructure are not equipped with wireless network interfaces. The urban environment is more congested than highway scenarios and has more issues of delay and travel time. Various types of route suggestion protocols have been proposed where most of them consider smart vehicles which are equipped with smart and intelligent communication devices. The most of existing schemes have not considered non-equipped vehicles which have a major cause of traffic congestion. This paper presents a route suggestion protocol to suggest an optimal congestion aware route in the network. Equipped and non-equipped vehicles are taking into account for congestion index formulation along with driving distraction factors. Simulation results indicated the greater performance of proposed protocol and reduce the travel time effectively when works with IoV as compared to traditional route suggestion protocols.

스마트 디바이스를 이용한 학생안전 네트워크 서비스 시스템

스마트폰, 스마트TV, 태블릿, 게임 콘솔과 같은 스마트 디바이스는 기기가 가진 기본 기능 이외에도 주변의 여러 현상을 인지하고 반응하는 상황인지 컴퓨팅(Context-aware Computing) 기술을 탑재, 이러한 정보를 합성하여 지능적인 애플리케이션 개발을 가능하게 하는 모든 범주의 지능형 통신 기기(Intelligent Communication Device)를 포괄한다. 본 논문에서는 학생안전 네트워크 서비스 시스템에 미리 등록된 학생의 이동경로와 유해업소를 학생용 데이터베이스에 저장한 후, 스마트 디바이스의 위치기반 서비스를 이용하여 학생의 동선을 파악하되 경로를 이탈하는 정도와 유해업소를 출입하거나 우범지역에 머무르는 경우를 파악하고, 학생안전 네트워크 서비스 시스템과 비교분석하여 학생의 안전한 생활지도가 이루어질 수 있도록 방법을 제시한다. Smart devices such as smart phone, smart TV, tablet, game consoles embrace all categories of Intelligent Communication Device, which enables intelligent applications to be developed, by up loading Context-aware Computing technology that recognizes and reacts nearby diverse phenomena and composing these information, as well as their basic functions. This paper, after saving pre-registered students' movement course and business places harmful to them into students safety network service system, by using location-based service and searching students' movement, considering the degree of breaking away from their regular course, the access to and their stay in crime-crone area, provides the comparative analysis of the system and suggests the ways for safe students guidance.

An Intelligent Data Carrier System for Local Communication Between Cooperative Multiple Mobile Robots and Environment

This paper presents an intelligent communication device called IDC (Intelligent Data Carrier) designed for local communication within a distributed system with multiple mobile robots. The IDC system is designed as a complement to an existing radio communication system. and is intended to decrease the need for global coordinative communication by providing distributed local inter-robot communication and a local information management function. The IDC system utilizes RF-ID (Radio Frequency Identification) electromagnetic wave transmission for communication, and the units are equipped with a data processing unit and a power unit to allow intelligent autonomous operation. As a result of the autonomy and the portability of the units, the IDC system does not only reduce the load on the global communication system, but it also provides a distribution of intelligent communication devices that enable a variety of interesting robot-environment communication capabilities. In a first example of utilization, the IDC system is used to replace the centralized control in an object transportation system consisting of multiple mobile robots.

An AI-based communication system for motor and speech disabled persons: design methodology and prototype testing

An intelligent communication device is developed to assist the nonverbal, motor disabled in the generation of written and spoken messages. The device is centered on a knowledge base of the grammatical rules and message elements. A "belief" reasoning scheme based on both the information from external sources and the embedded knowledge is used to optimize the process of message search. The search for the message elements is conceptualized as a path search in the language graph, and a special frame architecture is used to construct and to partition the graph. Bayesian "belief" reasoning from the Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence is augmented to cope with time-varying evidence. An "information fusion" strategy is also introduced to integrate various forms of external information. Experimental testing of the prototype system is discussed.
