Dynamic Wireless Charging of Electric Vehicles Using RFID Protection

Abstract: Electric vehicle (EV) development in transportation is growing rapidly, offering clean and sustainable transportation. The key challenges in the EV are high cost, limited range, battery recycling, charging infrastructure, and many more. Among these challenges, charging presents a double difficulty: limited availability and slow charging times. To address these challenges, charging infrastructure needs to be expanded, develop wireless charging technologies and advancements in battery technologies. In wireless charging there is static, charging while the vehicle is at rest, and dynamic, charging when the vehicle is in motion. EVs can be charged dynamically while they are moving, maximizing energy efficiency and reducing downtime for charging. In this paper a small-scale prototype for dynamic wireless charging with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), is discussed. RFID integration enables convenient and secure user access and prevents energy theft by unauthorized charging. RFID tag is positioned at the start of the charging path. The dynamic charging system with RFID protection is shown to be feasible and effective by the prototype. The prototype has to demonstrate its capacity to safely and effectively charge EVs in real time while reducing the possibility of unwanted access or energy theft.

Design of Additional Safety Locks for Motor Vehicles Using RFID

Indonesia, facing the dual challenges of rapid economic development and rising vehicle theft rates due to economic inequalities, has prompted a need for innovative security solutions in the automotive sector. This research aims to address this growing concern by introducing a sophisticated motor vehicle security system utilizing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The proposed system employs RFID keys, which use ID tag cards as unique identifiers to activate motor vehicles. The methodology centers around the integration of RFID technology with a microcontroller, creating a security system that is both advanced and user-friendly. This system includes an alarm feature that is triggered when an ID tag card not registered with the vehicle's RFID is used, providing an additional layer of security against unauthorized access. The results of implementing this system have been promising. Testing revealed that the RFID locks, when combined with the microcontroller, effectively recognized authorized ID tag cards and successfully denied access when unauthorized cards were used. The alarm system also functioned as intended, activating when discrepancies in ID tag data were detected. This integration of RFID with a microcontroller not only enhanced the security of motor vehicles but also contributed to a significant reduction in vehicle thefts in the community, showcasing the potential of RFID technology as a viable solution to the prevalent issue of vehicle security in Indonesia.

Construction of a General-Purpose Infrastructure for Rfid – Based Applications

The aim of advancements in technologies is to increase scientific development and get the overall human satisfaction and comfortability. One of the active research area in recent years that addresses the above mentioned issues, is the integration of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology into network-based systems. Even though, RFID is considered as a promising technology, it has some bleeding points. This paper identifies seven intertwined deficiencies, namely: remote setting, scalability, power saving, remote and concurrent tracking, reusability, automation, and continuity in work. This paper proposes the construction of a general purpose infrastructure for RFID-based applications (IRFID) to tackle these deficiencies. Finally, the proposed IRFID is compared against eight existing systems. As a result, IRFID can be considered as a prototype for the futuristic with flexibility and generality in a wide-range of automation and development areas.

Analysis of the benefits, challenges and risks for the integrated use of BIM, RFID and WSN: a mixed method research

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to identify, classify and prioritize the benefits, challenges and risks for the integrated use of building information modeling (BIM), radio frequency identification (RFID) and wireless sensor network (WSN) in the architecture, engineering, construction and operation (AECO) industry.Design/methodology/approachThis study relies on the mixed method approach which consists of systematic literature review, semistructured interviews and Delphi technique. A systematic literature review was performed and face-to-face semistructured interviews with seven subject matter experts (SMEs) were conducted for identification and classification purposes. Delphi method was applied in two structured rounds with eleven SMEs for prioritization purpose. These three research techniques were chosen to reach the most accurate data by combining different perspectives on the subject matter. Data gathered by these three methods was triangulated to increase the validity and reliability of this research.FindingsThirteen benefits, ten challenges and four risks for the integrated use of BIM, RFID and WSN were identified. The results could aid the practitioners and researchers comprehend the pros and cons of this integration by representing SMEs’ valuable insights and perspectives about the current and future status, trends, limitations and requirements of the AECO industry. The identified risks and challenges show the requirements for future studies while the benefits demonstrate the capabilities and the potential contributions of this hybrid integration to the AECO industry.Originality/valueThe integration of BIM, RFID and WSN is still not commonly implemented in the AECO industry. Some studies focused on this topic; however, none of them reveals the benefits, risks and challenges for integrating BIM, RFID and WSN in a holistic manner. This research makes a significant contribution to the AECO literature and industry by uncovering the benefits, challenges and risks for the integrated use of BIM, RFID and WSN that could increase industry applications.

Survey on Lightweight Primitives and Protocols for RFID in Wireless Sensor Networks

The use of radio frequency identification (RFID) technologies is becoming widespread in all kind of wireless network-based applications. As expected, applications based on sensor networks, ad-hoc or mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) can be highly benefited from the adoption of RFID solutions. There is a strong need to employ lightweight cryptographic primitives for many security applications because of the tight cost and constrained resource requirement of sensor based networks. This paper mainly focuses on the security analysis of lightweight protocols and algorithms proposed for the security of RFID systems. A large number of research solutions have been proposed to implement lightweight cryptographic primitives and protocols in sensor and RFID integration based resource constraint networks. In this work, an overview of the currently discussed lightweight primitives and their attributes has been done. These primitives and protocols have been compared based on gate equivalents (GEs), power, technology, strengths, weaknesses and attacks. Further, an integration of primitives and protocols is compared with the possibilities of their applications in practical scenarios.

Rancang Bangun Sistem Informasi Tracking Sales dengan Integrasi Kartu Radio Frequency Identification

CV. Multi Banyu Satwa is a distributor of livestock medicines and vitamins where the company sells its products to shops that sell animal needs, especially livestock. In marketing its products, this company uses a canvasing sales system where the salesperson sells for several days by directly bringing the product and will return when the goods brought have started to run out. So that there can be a risk of losing the product if the salesperson is not honest, besides that the company owner does not know the presence of the sales directly. In this regard, the purpose of this research is to build a sales canvasser tracking information system with the integration of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) cards. The method used in building this information system uses waterfall and needs analysis using PIECES, while the system modeling design uses Unified Modeling Language (UML). This information system is web-based and there are 3 access rights, namely owner, admin, salesman. Based on the test results from testing the sales canvasser tracking information system with the integration of this RFID card using the black-box method, it can be seen that this information system can run well. Meanwhile, from the results of user testing using a questionnaire, the results showed a percentage score of 55% Agree and 45% Strongly Agree.Keywords : Information System, Tracking, Sales, RFID

Review of RFID and IoT integration in supply chain management

Supply Chain Management (SCM) is increasingly complex and dynamic. Radio frequency identification (RFID) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are expected to play a significant role in fulfilling customer requirements in the supply chain. In this work, the integration of RFID with IoT is called RFID-IoT. RFID-IoT strives to develop automated sensing, seamless, interoperable and highly secure systems by connecting IoT devices through the internet. In this paper, the authors have systematically reviewed the selected literature on the application of RFID-IoT in supply chain management. The contribution of this paper is to review the current state-of-the-art literature and potential trend on the application of RFID-IoT in SCM. There is a need for an in-depth, comprehensive analysis of up-to-date literature to help enhance the management system efficiency, maximize productivity, and minimize cost. This work also explores the current challenges of the reviewed papers in RFID-IoT implementation in the supply chain. The conceptual framework model has been conducted from four major critical SCM perspectives: product manufacturing, shipping and distribution, inventory and retail shop. In the future, this review's highlighted insights and recommendations will hopefully lead to increased efforts toward developing RFID-IoT technologies.

Survey of RFID-IoTin Supply Chain Management

Radio frequency identification (RFID) has been identified as one of the emerging technologies in supply chain management. With the integration of RFID with internet of things (IoT), called RFID-IoT has bring the advancement of support chain management (SCM) to the automated sensing, pervasive computing and ubiquitous data access by manufacturer, distributor, retailer and even consumer. This paper intended to introduce the concept of RFID-IoT technology in SCM, recent application in SCM such as identification, monitoring, process enhancement, logistic tracking, product quality and analyze the current challenges and future potential of RFID-IoT technology. In future, RFID-IoT is expected to be integrated with other technologies to produce a comprehensive solution in SCM.

Developing parking queue monitoring system using Wireless Sensor Network and RFID technology

Parking areas in urban centers are increasingly limited, but not in line with technological developments in addressing the problem of parking service needs in the urban public service center by implementing smart city technology. Many times the parking service waiting time is too long, due to a complicated procedure. Waiting time for services that are too long makes the parking queue increase in length, especially when registering for the end of a new parking lot. Besides, the storage of visitors’ parking slip accumulation is still manual and not paperless. Therefore, in this study, a solution was proposed in the form of a system to accelerate administrative services for parking visitors by integrating Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technologies. This system utilizes the database so that the results of data processing can be used by management to obtain visitor data information on parking online and quickly. The results obtained from this study are a prototype of a parking visitor monitoring system using WSN technology based on Zigbee and RFID protocols. Meanwhile, the results of visitor parking information presented in data processing can be used by management to find out statistical data relating to parking services.

Chipless RFID Sensors Based on Multistate Coupled Line Resonators

A chipless radio frequency identification (RFID) sensor commonly consists of a tag ID and smart sensing materials. The electrical properties of these materials vary with the sensing physical parameters, such as temperature, humidity, and pressure. Novel and compact temperature sensor integrated with a chipless RFID tag without either increasing the tag size or decreasing the tag capacity is presented. For sensing purposes, a new microstrip coupled line resonator is suggested to support four state ID data and extra sensing information simultaneously. The resonator consists of a coupled line section and three lines with different-length elements (arms). The longest arm, connected at all times, is particularly designed for temperature sensing, and has resonance frequency f1′. The other two arms are used for encoding four different codes. The resonator can be structured for any of the following possible states — 100, 101, 110, and 111 — demonstrating resonance at f1′, resonance at f1′ and f2, resonance at f1′ and f1, and resonance at f1′, f1, and f2, respectively. The change in f1′ can be directly converted object temperature. A multi-resonator structure with six resonators was designed and implemented for RFID sensor applications. Two of these resonators were designed based on the suggested structure, to include temperature sensing and reference frequency. Experimental tests were performed within the temperature range 22 °C to 60 °C. The sensor exhibits a sensitivity of 742 KHz/°C. Experimental and simulation results confirmed the proposed sensing RFID integration concept.

Development and Integration of RFID Simulation Based Tool for Improved Schedule Performance in Saudi Arabia Precast Concrete Industry

A construction project is measured as a process that encompasses numerous activities and a huge amount of information of numerous types that are related to each other. Effective project management entails controlling all aspects of a construction project: quality and quantity of work, costs, and schedules to guarantee the accomplishment of the project. The construction industry in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia is implementing off-site construction with precast cement, for its higher quality, short cycle time, and negligible environmental influence. Amongst the various off-site construction approaches, such construction follows a manufacturing method where houses are built in smaller panels in an assembly line. Owing to the complex and exclusive nature of the home building process, prevailing manufacturing concepts such as automated production planning and control system are not applicable to the panelized home production facility. This research aims in the development and integration of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to for production planning and control system, resulting in improved schedule performance, in Saudi Arabia precast concrete industry. Radio frequency identification is appropriate to numerous construction applications and generates cost savings via increased speed and accuracy of data entry. The study provides a set of helpful protocols for the deployment of passive RFIDs for automated on factory management of precast concrete operations. Further it aims at paving the way for managing the site for the sake of attaining the desired goals considering the guarantee of achieving high quality and quick conveyance to the related sites which, hence, prompts auspicious conveyance of development ventures. The study is beneficial for the construction professionals to assess the prevailing construction quality perception and the expectations from implementation of any quality improvement technique in construction projects.

An Innovative Approach to Track Moving Object based on RFID and Laser Ranging Information

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) identifies a specific object by radio signals. As the tag provides a unique ID for the purpose of identification, RFID technology effectively solves the ambiguity and occlusion problem that challenges the laser or camera-based approach. This paper proposes an approach to track a moving object based on the integration of RFID and laser ranging information using a particle filter. To be precise, we split laser scan points into different clusters which contain the potential moving objects and calculate the radial velocity of each cluster. The velocity information is compared with the radial velocity estimated from RFID phase difference. In order to achieve the positioning of the moving object, we select a number of best matching clusters to update the weights of the particle filter. To further improve the positioning accuracy, we incorporate RFID signal strength information into the particle filter using a pre-trained sensor model. The proposed approach is tested on a SCITOS service robot under different types of tags and various human velocities. The results show that fusion of signal strength and laser ranging information has significantly increased the positioning accuracy when compared to radial velocity matching-based or signal strength-based approaches. The proposed approach provides a solution for human machine interaction and object tracking, which has potential applications in many fields for example supermarkets, libraries, shopping malls, and exhibitions.

Implementation and integration of radio-frequency identification system: a practical approach

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explain how the author had carried out the implementation of the radio-frequency identification (RFID) system at Central Library, Fakiragram College and to explain to the library professional on how to integrate RFID with Koha integrated library management system (ILMS) in their respective library without taking IT/technical experts assistance. This paper will encourage library professionals to implement RFID technology for the library security and embrace open source software in their institutions. Design/methodology/approach The paper describes the author’s practical experiences regarding implementation of the RFID system and integration of middleware RFID software with library management software. Findings From the present study, it was found that the library staff are having a positive attitude toward embracing RFID technology in their library. The present implementation of RFID technology in the studies area gives a clear picture about integrating a third-party software/tool like RFID to the existing systems and how the new system has helped the library to provide better service to their users Research limitations/implications There were some teething problems at the start between the Koha ILMS SIP2 software and the RFID system. The main issue faced while integration was with setting up the hostname, integrating the instance (i.e. database) and with setting up the port. Practical implications This paper will help librarians to implement RFID technology in a practical way to their libraries. The author implemented Koha ILMS with RFID system at the Central Library, Fakiragram College within 1 month and the author migrated data from common communication format (CCF) format to MARC 21 formats. CCF is basically used in SOUL 2.0 developed by INFLIBNET. Originality/value This study discusses issues and possible solutions in the process of implementing RFID applications for two innovative applications in library services. This will influence library professionals to learn Koha ILMS and RFID technology implement it in their libraries.

Data Verification in Integrated RFID Systems

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is widely used as a tagging system to facilitate physical transactions in the real world. Thanks to the availability of inexpensive passive RF tags, RFID technology is now the catalyst of Internet of Things, i.e., every object can be uniquely identified in an Internet-like way. In the future, many individual RFID systems are likely to be integrated into a few exascale RFID systems. In an integrated RFID system, service providers (SPs) that offer RFID-based data service and clients that use the data service are different organizations. As a consequence, quality of data in terms of authenticity is of significant concern. In this paper, we first formulate a data verification problem in RFID systems and build a model of integrated RFID systems where multiple SPs and clients exist. Then, we propose two data verification protocols to ensure data generated by SPs associated with a particular tag and has not been modified. In addition, we implement our system as a prototype. The computer simulations, analyses, and testbeds based on the prototype all demonstrate that the proposed verifiable integrated RFID system achieves a high level of security and performance.

Manufacturing Feasibility Evaluation of RFID chips embedded in Artificial Organs

Advances in medical technology rely heavily on the collection and analysis of measured data to facilitate patient diagnosis and business decisions. The healthcare industry, particularly pharmaceuticals and diagnostic processes, has an ongoing need to improve item tracking and data collection to improve the quality of care while reducing cost. This paper primarily focuses on integrating Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) inside of artificial organs to provide doctors and nurses a better synopsis of the embedded organ. The remote, non-invasive characteristics of RFID can facilitate the information needs of healthcare without imposing additional burden onto the patient or staff. Properly deployed RFID enabled devices is envisioned to provide convenient and accurate data for artificial organs conditions, and critical information that may be necessary for medical specialist to better serve patients with these organs. This paper describes an all-encompassing RFID tracking system that begins with compliance documentation from implementation duration of the patient’s life. This RFID system can provide data for decision-making and facilitate compliance with FDA imposed e-pedigree requirements. This transcript introduces healthcare trends in order to motivate the need for a biocompatible RFID system. The overall goal of the pending research is to develop biocompatible RFID tag components for use with systems implemented inside artificial organs and continued through the duration of the device as mentioned above. It is envisioned that successful implementation of this technology could improve life expectancy of patients with artificial organs by ten percent.

Developing an electronic system to manage and track emergency medications.

The development of a Web-based program to track and manage emergency medications with radio frequency identification (RFID) is described. At the Cleveland Clinic, medication kit restocking records and dispense locations were historically documented using a paper record-keeping system. The Cleveland Clinic investigated options to replace the paper-based tracking logs with a Web-based program that could track the real-time location and inventory of emergency medication kits. Vendor collaboration with a board of pharmacy (BOP) compliance inspector and pharmacy personnel resulted in the creation of a dual barcoding system using medication and pocket labels. The Web-based program was integrated with a Cleveland Clinic-developed asset tracking system using active RFID tags to give the real-time location of the medication kit. The Web-based program and the asset tracking system allowed identification of kits nearing expiration or containing recalled medications. Conversion from a paper-based system to a Web-based program began in October 2013. After 119 days, data were evaluated to assess the success of the conversion. Pharmacists spent an average of 27 minutes per day approving medication kits during the postimplementation period versus 102 minutes daily using the paper-based system, representing a 74% decrease in pharmacist time spent on this task. Prospective reports are generated monthly to allow the manager to assess the expected workload and adjust staffing for the next month. Implementation of a BOP-approved Web-based system for managing and tracking emergency medications with RFID integration decreased pharmacist review time, minimized compliance risk, and increased access to real-time data.
