Evasive actions to prevent pedestrian collisions in varying space/time contexts in diverse urban and non-urban areas

This study aims to identify driver-safe evasive actions associated with pedestrian crash risk in diverse urban and non-urban areas. The research focuses on the integration of quantitative methods and granular naturalistic data to examine the impacts of different driving contexts on transportation system performance, safety, and reliability. The data is derived from real-life driving encounters between pedestrians and drivers in various settings, including urban areas (UAs), suburban areas (SUAs), marked crossing areas (MCAs), and unmarked crossing areas (UMCAs). By determining critical thresholds of spatial/temporal proximity-based safety surrogate techniques, vehicle–pedestrian conflicts are clustered through a K-means algorithm into different risk levels based on drivers' evasive actions in different areas. The results of the data analysis indicate that changing lanes is the key evasive action employed by drivers to avoid pedestrian crashes in SUAs and UMCAs, while in UAs and MCAs, drivers rely on soft evasive actions, such as deceleration. Moreover, critical thresholds for several Safety Surrogate Measures (SSMs) reveal similar conflict patterns between SUAs and UMCAs, as well as between UAs and MCAs. Furthermore, this study develops and delivers a pseudo-code algorithm that utilizes the critical thresholds of SSMs to provide tangible guidance on the appropriate evasive actions for drivers in different space/time contexts, aiming to prevent collisions with pedestrians. The developed research methodology as well as the outputs of this study could be potentially useful for the development of a driver support and assistance system in the future.

Integration of quantitative methods and mathematical approaches for the modeling of cancer cell proliferation dynamics.

Physiological processes rely on the control of cell proliferation, and the dysregulation of these processes underlies various pathological conditions, including cancer. Mathematical modeling can provide new insights into the complex regulation of cell proliferation dynamics. In this review, we first examine quantitative experimental approaches for measuring cell proliferation dynamics in vitro and compare the various types of data that can be obtained in these settings. We then explore the toolbox of common mathematical modeling frameworks that can describe cell behavior, dynamics, and interactions of proliferation. We discuss how these wet-laboratory studies may be integrated with different mathematical modeling approaches to aid the interpretation of the results and to enable the prediction of cell behaviors, specifically in the context of cancer.

The Effect of Policy Implementation, Budget Allocation, and Leadership on the Capacity of Village Government Apparatuses in Sukabumi Regency, West Java Province

Village government is the spearhead of the administration of government affairs to realize the welfare of the people through the functions of governance, development, development, empowerment of rural communities. The administration of government is determined by the implementation of good government management based on the size of the rights of origin and traditional rights of the village. Thus, the capacity of the apparatus becomes important in administering village government as an independent entity and the lowest level of government following Law Number 6 of 2014. The research method used is a mixture of quantitative and qualitative approaches. The number of samples in this study was 269 respondents, and the research informants were 22 informants. Data analysis used Structural Equation Model and Qualitative Data Analysis. The results of this study indicate that there is a causal relationship between policy implementation. Budget Allocation and Leadership on the Capacity of the Village Government Apparatus, the results obtained are entirely and as indicated by the calculated value (t-value) of each variable greater than 1.96. The distribution of scores across all dimensions is 93% greater in the excellent category. The integration of quantitative methods and qualitative methods obtained the exact most dominant dimensions so that it can be stated that there is a match. The Daffaryas Digital Apparatus Model is a research finding determined by five factors: bureaucratic structure, attitude disposition, value for money, change-oriented leadership behavior, and task-oriented.In conclusion, the Capacity of the Village Government Apparatus is in a good category. All three hypotheses are accepted. The causality relationship is positive and significant so that new models and concepts of government apparatus capacity are obtained.

The future of dialects and the dialectology of the future

Abstract The days when dialectology was a quiet island in the (sometimes rough) ocean of modern linguistics seem to be over. Since the so-called social turn and the integration of quantitative methods into the study of urban as well as rural dialects, the barriers between early ‘Labovian’ sociolinguistics and dialectology have gradually been broken down. Of late, the study of dialect variation has become more and more an integral part of mainstream formal theory as ‘micro-variation’. Even more recently, constructivist approaches (such as Usage-based Phonology and Exemplar Theory for phonetics as well as ethnographic perspectives) are entering and enriching the field. Apart from these various developments, at least in the Old World, the object appears to be changing more and more rapidly, giving rise to the erosion of traditional dialect landscapes and the emergence of supra-local koinai as well as dialect/standard continua. This paper addresses some of the main aspects of these tendencies. We will discuss questions such as: how can the new types of language variety be studied; can dialectology be enriched with other than the traditional data and methods; how far-reaching is the innovative impact of the various disciplinary, inter-subdisciplinary and inter-disciplinary cross-fertilisations?

Role of Communication and Interaction in Enhancing Organisational Performance

In circumstances of constantly changing concepts related to the organisation as well as the progress of its performance and behaviour, communication has become a focus of many researchers who have consistently analyzed it in relation to organisations of various forms. This study aims to assess the role of communication and interaction in enhancing organisational performance. This study involved 607 respondents employed in banks and insurance companies. The methodology used for this study was the integration of quantitative methods. We have used two instruments in this study, one questionnaire to measure the role of communication and interaction and the other one organisational performance.

Do we need Quantitative Imaging?

After decades of research and collaboration, imaging has made a major contribution to patient care. The imaging study is a critical part of diagnosis and treatment follow-up for nearly every patient undergoing medical treatment. In addition to innovation in imaging technology and disease biology understanding, quantitative imaging has been integrated with conventional visual quantitative assessments. This continues to be an area of active investigation, innovation, and development. More recently, the emerging fields of radiomics and radiogenomics have captured the imagination of the imaging community. A major challenge to the imaging community is integration of quantitative methods and artificial intelligence (AI) approaches into the imaging clinical workflow and report information presented to caregivers. Report information is still primarily based on a qualitative description of imaging findings with only sparse quantitative information (image data 1.0) usually limited to size in cm and radionuclide standardized uptake value (SUV). Therefore, a wide gap exists between cutting-edge imaging advances and the clinical utility of the data provided. This gap is the challenge that must be addressed for the imaging community.

Quantitative Methods and Socio-Economic Applications in GIS

Integration of quantitative methods on social science research has progressed in studying the complex human or social systems. Geographic Information System (GIS) is the main tool that has capability to integrate and analyze various datasets on spatial aspects. Not only geography researchers who are interested on the interaction of human activity and spatial dimension, but also other social-related fields share the same interests.
 Concept and theory before GIS age are quite difficult to explore spatially in the real-world applications for practitioner. However, GIS has capability to integrate quantitative methods with spatial analysis. In this book, the author, Prof. Fahui Wang, has provided both concept and theoretical backgrounds on human geography, city and regional planning of public policy. In addition, the author also demonstrates the example in the real-world applications based on GIS environment largely performed by ArcGIS.

Measuring in action research: Four ways of integrating quantitative methods in participatory dynamics

Although action research uses both qualitative and quantitative methods, few contributions have addressed the specific role of the latter in this kind of research. This paper focuses on how quantitative methods can be integrated with participatory dynamics in action research designs. Four types of integration are defined and exemplified. The paper concludes with some reflections on how the integration of quantitative methods in these designs must address epistemological and methodological issues.

Systems biology in 3D space--enter the morphome.

Systems-based understanding of living organisms depends on acquiring huge datasets from arrays of genes, transcripts, proteins, and lipids. These data, referred to as 'omes', are assembled using 'omics' methodologies. Currently a comprehensive, quantitative view of cellular and organellar systems in 3D space at nanoscale/molecular resolution is missing. We introduce here the term 'morphome' for the distribution of living matter within a 3D biological system, and 'morphomics' for methods of collecting 3D data systematically and quantitatively. A sampling-based approach termed stereology currently provides rapid, precise, and minimally biased morphomics. We propose that stereology solves the 'big data' problem posed by emerging wide-scale electron microscopy (EM) and can establish quantitative links between the newer nanoimaging platforms such as electron tomography, cryo-EM, and correlative microscopy.
