Liouville integrable binomial Hamiltonian system

In this study, we work on a novel Hamiltonian system which is Liouville integrable. In the integrable Hamiltonian model, conserved currents can be represented as Binomial polynomials in which each order corresponds to the integral of motion of the system. From a mathematical point of view, the equations of motion can be written as integrable second-order nonlinear partial differential equations in 1 + 1 dimensions.

Exact Solutions and Conservation Laws of A (2+1)-dimensional Combined Potential Kadomtsev-Petviashvili-B-type Kadomtsev-Petviashvili Equation

This article investigates a sixth order integrable nonlinear partial differential equation model that fulfills the Hirota N-soliton. Space and time-dependent shift, rotation and space-dependent shift, time and space translations, and time and space dilations Lie point symmetries are presented methodically. Under a specific point symmetries, the Lie point symmetries lead to group invariant solutions. The significance of conservation laws of the underlying equation are shown. The results are quite accurate in recreating complex waves and the dynamics of their interactions.

Spectral Parameter as a Group Parameter

A large class of integrable non-linear partial differential equations is characterized by the existence of the associated linear problem (in the case of two independent variables, known as a Lax pair) containing the so-called spectral parameter. In this paper, we present and discuss the conjecture that the spectral parameter can be interpreted as the parameter of some one-parameter groups of transformation, provided that it cannot be removed by any gauge transformation. If a non-parametric linear problem for a non-linear system is known (e.g., the Gauss–Weingarten equations as a linear problem for the Gauss–Codazzi equations in the geometry of submanifolds), then, by comparing both symmetry groups, we can find or indicate the integrable cases. We consider both conventional Lie point symmetries and the so-called extended Lie point symmetries, which are necessary in some cases. This paper is intended to be a review, but some novel results are presented as well.

A formula for symmetry recursion operators from non-variational symmetries of partial differential equations

An explicit formula to find symmetry recursion operators for partial differential equations (PDEs) is obtained from new results connecting variational integrating factors and non-variational symmetries. The formula is special case of a general formula that produces a pre-symplectic operator from a non-gradient adjoint-symmetry. These formulas are illustrated by several examples of linear PDEs and integrable nonlinear PDEs. Additionally, a classification of quasilinear second-order PDEs admitting a multiplicative symmetry recursion operator through the first formula is presented.

Lump, rogue wave, multi-waves and Homoclinic breather solutions for (2+1)-Modified Veronese Web equation

This work addresses the four main inducements: Lump, rogue wave, Homoclinic breather and multi-wave solutions for (2+1)-Modified Veronese Web (MVW) equation via Hirota bilinear approach and the ansatz technique. This model is a linearly degenerate integrable nonlinear partial differential equation (NLPDE) and can also be used to admit a differential covering with nonremoval physical parameters. By assuming the function [Formula: see text] in the Hirota bilinear form of the presented model as the general quadratic function, trigonometric function and exponential function form, also with appropriate set of parameters, we have prevented the lump, rogue wave, breather and multi-wave solutions successfully. A precise compatible wave transformation is utilized to obtain multi-wave solutions of governing model. Also, the motion track of the lump, Rogue wave and multi-waves is also explained both physically and theoretically. These new results contain some special arbitrary constants that can be useful to spell out diversity in qualitative features of wave phenomena.

An optimal system of group-invariant solutions and conserved quantities of a nonlinear fifth-order integrable equation

Abstract In this work, we perform Lie group analysis on a fifth-order integrable nonlinear partial differential equation, which was recently introduced in the literature and contains two dispersive terms. We determine a one-parameter group of transformations, an optimal system of group invariant solutions, and derive the corresponding analytic solutions. Topological kink, periodic and power series solutions are obtained. The existence of a variational principle for the underlying equation is proven using Helmholtz conditions and, thereafter, both local and nonlocal conserved quantities are obtained by utilising Noether’s theorem and a homotopy integral approach.

Discrete symmetries and nonlocal reductions

We show that nonlocal reductions of systems of integrable nonlinear partial differential equations are the special discrete symmetry transformations.

Elliptic solutions to integrable nonlinear equations and many-body systems

We review elliptic solutions to integrable nonlinear partial differential and difference equations (KP, mKP, BKP, Toda) and derive equations of motion for poles of the solutions. The pole dynamics is given by an integrable many-body system (Calogero–Moser, Ruijsenaars–Schneider). The basic tool is the auxiliary linear problems for the wave function which yield equations of motion together with their Lax representation. We also discuss integrals of motion and properties of the spectral curves.

Deformations of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras, exotic cohomology, and integrable nonlinear partial differential equations

The important unsolved problem in theory of integrable systems is to find conditions guaranteeing existence of a Lax representation for a given pde . The exotic cohomology of the symmetry algebras opens a way to formulate such conditions in internal terms of the pde s under the study. In this paper we consider certain examples of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras with nontrivial second exotic cohomology groups and show that the Maurer–Cartan forms of the associated extensions of these Lie algebras generate Lax representations for integrable systems, both known and new ones.

Computing eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the Laplacian for convex polygons

Recently a new transform method, called the Unified Transform or the Fokas method, for solving boundary value problems (BVPs) for linear and integrable nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) has received a lot of attention. For linear elliptic PDEs, this method yields two equations, known as the global relations, coupling the Dirichlet and Neumann boundary values. These equations can be used in a collocation method to determine the Dirichlet to Neumann map. This involves expanding the unknown functions in terms of a suitable basis, and choosing a set of collocation points at which to evaluate the global relations. Here, using these methods for the Helmholtz and modified Helmholtz equations and following the earlier results of [15], we determine eigenvalues of the Laplacian in a convex polygon. Eigenvalues are characterised by the points where the generalised Dirichlet to Neumann map becomes singular. We find that the method yields spectral convergence for eigenfunctions smooth on the boundary and for non-smooth boundary values, the rate of convergence is determined by the rate of convergence of expansions in the chosen Legendre basis. Extensions to the case of oblique derivative boundary conditions and constant coefficient elliptic PDEs are also discussed and demonstrated.

Linear Elliptic PDEs in a Cylindrical Domain with a Polygonal Cross‐Section

Integral representations for the solution of the Laplace, modified Helmholtz, and Helmholtz equations can be obtained using Green's theorem. However, these representations involve both the Dirichlet and the Neumann values on the boundary, and for a well‐posed boundary value problem (BVP) one of these functions is unknown. A new transform method for solving BVPs for linear and integrable nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs), usually referred to as the unified transform or the Fokas method, was introduced in the late 1990s. For linear elliptic PDEs in two dimensions, this method first, by employing two algebraic equations formulated in the Fourier plane, provides an elegant approach for determining the Dirichlet to Neumann map, i.e., for constructing the unknown boundary values in terms of the given boundary data. Second, this method constructs novel integral representations of the solution in terms of integrals formulated in the complex Fourier plane. In the present paper, we extend this novel approach to the case of the Laplace, modified Helmholtz, and Helmholtz equations, formulated in a three‐dimensional cylindrical domain with a polygonal cross‐section.

Lax Integrability of the Modified Camassa-Holm Equation and the Concept of Peakons

In this Letter we propose that for Lax integrable nonlinear partial differential equations the natural concept of weak solutions is implied by the compatibility condition for the respective distributional Lax pairs. We illustrate our proposal by comparing two concepts of weak solutions of the modified Camassa-Holm equation pointing out that in the peakon sector (a family of non-smooth solitons) only one of them, namely the one obtained from the distributional compatibility condition, supports the time invariance of the Sobolev H1 norm.

Miura-type transformations for lattice equations and Lie group actions associated with Darboux–Lax representations

Miura-type transformations (MTs) are an essential tool in the theory of integrable nonlinear partial differential and difference equations. We present a geometric method to construct MTs for differential-difference (lattice) equations from Darboux–Lax representations (DLRs) of such equations. The method is applicable to parameter-dependent DLRs satisfying certain conditions. We construct MTs and modified lattice equations from invariants of some Lie group actions on manifolds associated with such DLRs. Using this construction, from a given suitable DLR one can obtain many MTs of different orders. The main idea behind this method is closely related to the results of Drinfeld and Sokolov on MTs for the partial differential KdV equation. Considered examples include the Volterra, Narita–Itoh–Bogoyavlensky, Toda, and Adler–Postnikov lattices. Some of the constructed MTs and modified lattice equations seem to be new.

Initial‐Boundary Value Problem for Integrable Nonlinear Evolution Equation with 3 × 3 Lax Pairs on the Interval

We present an approach for analyzing initial‐boundary value problems which are formulated on the finite interval (, where L is a positive constant) for integrable equation whose Lax pairs involve 3 × 3 matrices. Boundary value problems for integrable nonlinear evolution partial differential equations (PDEs) can be analyzed by the unified method introduced by Fokas and developed by him and his collaborators. In this paper, we show that the solution can be expressed in terms of the solution of a 3 × 3 Riemann–Hilbert problem (RHP). The relevant jump matrices are explicitly given in terms of the three matrix‐value spectral functions , and , which in turn are defined in terms of the initial values, boundary values at , and boundary values at , respectively. However, these spectral functions are not independent; they satisfy a global relation. Here, we show that the characterization of the unknown boundary values in terms of the given initial and boundary data is explicitly described for a nonlinear evolution PDE defined on the interval. Also, we show that in the limit when the length of the interval tends to infinity, the relevant formulas reduce to the analogous formulas obtained for the case of boundary value problems formulated on the half‐line.

On classification of high-order integrable nonlinear partial differential equations

In this study we investigate the existence of soliton solutions for partial differential equations with polynomial nonlinearities. We obtain a classification of high-order integrable systems with two-soliton solution, using the τ-function method. Hierarchies of these equations are represented.

A numerical technique for linear elliptic partial differential equations in polygonal domains.

Integral representations for the solution of linear elliptic partial differential equations (PDEs) can be obtained using Green's theorem. However, these representations involve both the Dirichlet and the Neumann values on the boundary, and for a well-posed boundary-value problem (BVPs) one of these functions is unknown. A new transform method for solving BVPs for linear and integrable nonlinear PDEs usually referred to as the unified transform (or the Fokas transform) was introduced by the second author in the late Nineties. For linear elliptic PDEs, this method can be considered as the analogue of Green's function approach but now it is formulated in the complex Fourier plane instead of the physical plane. It employs two global relations also formulated in the Fourier plane which couple the Dirichlet and the Neumann boundary values. These relations can be used to characterize the unknown boundary values in terms of the given boundary data, yielding an elegant approach for determining the Dirichlet to Neumann map. The numerical implementation of the unified transform can be considered as the counterpart in the Fourier plane of the well-known boundary integral method which is formulated in the physical plane. For this implementation, one must choose (i) a suitable basis for expanding the unknown functions and (ii) an appropriate set of complex values, which we refer to as collocation points, at which to evaluate the global relations. Here, by employing a variety of examples we present simple guidelines of how the above choices can be made. Furthermore, we provide concrete rules for choosing the collocation points so that the condition number of the matrix of the associated linear system remains low.

Initial‐Boundary Value Problems for the Defocusing Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation in the Semiclassical Limit

Initial‐boundary value problems for integrable nonlinear partial differential equations have become tractable in recent years due to the development of so‐called unified transform techniques. The main obstruction to applying these methods in practice is that calculation of the spectral transforms of the initial and boundary data requires knowledge of too many boundary conditions, more than are required to make the problem well‐posed. The elimination of the unknown boundary values is frequently addressed in the spectral domain via the so‐called global relation, and types of boundary conditions for which the global relation can be solved are called linearizable. For the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation, the global relation is only known to be explicitly solvable in rather restrictive situations, namely homogeneous boundary conditions of Dirichlet, Neumann, and Robin (mixed) type. General nonhomogeneous boundary conditions are not known to be linearizable. In this paper, we propose an explicit approximation for the nonlinear Dirichlet‐to‐Neumann map supplied by the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation and use it to provide approximate solutions of general nonhomogeneous boundary value problems for this equation posed as an initial‐boundary value problem on the half‐line. Our method sidesteps entirely the solution of the global relation. The accuracy of our method is proven in the semiclassical limit, and we provide explicit asymptotics for the solution in the interior of the quarter‐plane space‐time domain.

On Curvelet based Multi-scale Analysis of Higher Dimensional Solitons

In shallow water theory, completely integrable nonlinear partial differential equations arise at various levels of approximations/simulations. Such equations possess traveling wave solutions, called solitons, which themselves are self-phase-modulated signals. Wavelets are traditionally applied in signal processing but it has limitations to deal effectively with geometric features with line and surface singularities. Due to its poor orientation selectivity, wavelet can only capture limited directional information in signal processing. A multi-resolution geometric analysis, named curvelet transform overcomes the drawbacks of the conventional wavelet transform. Such a geometric characterization provides better understanding of cascade mechanism and dissipation range dynamics. In the present work, a multi-scale geometric analysis with curvelets as basis functions is proposed for analyzing higher dimensional lump-like solitons- that arise in the evolution of lump solutions for the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation and the surface electromigration equation. Moreover, the application of curvelet thresholding technique for de-noising the contaminated signals is presented.

On the nonlinear Fourier transform associated with periodic AKNS-ZS systems and its inverse

We study the nonlinear Fourier transform associated with the integrable nonlinear partial differential equations of AKNS-ZS type. We show that is a real analytic operator between the appropriate Hilbert spaces, and that it has a real analytic local inverse near the origin. We construct a convergent iterative scheme by means of which one can calculate the inverse to any desired degree of accuracy.

Polaron on a one-dimensional lattice: II. A moving polaron

Continuum-limit equations for moving polarons on a one-dimensional lattice with a harmonic interaction potential between adjacent particles and a simple nonlinear potential with a cubic nonlinearity are derived for the first time; for some particular cases, their solutions are obtained. For a harmonic lattice in the continuum limit, a system of integrable nonlinear partial differential equations is derived. A one-soliton solution to this system describes a polaron moving with a constant velocity. The speed of this polaron is uniquely related to its amplitude, with its values ranging from zero to the speed of sound. For a nonlinear lattice, the resulting system of differential equations is integrable at a certain ratio of the problem parameters. The one-soliton solution to this system, as in the harmonic case, describes a polaron moving with a constant velocity. At arbitrary values of the lattice parameters, the nonlinear lattice was studied by numerical methods. It turned out that, in the entire range of parameters, the nonlinear lattice gives rise to moving polarons, with the speed of the polaron being determined by the competition between the electron-photon interaction parameter α and the nonlinearity parameter β. At α ≫ β, the behavior of the polaron is very close to the dynamics on the harmonic lattice. In the opposite case, the dynamic nonlinearity begins to dominate, giving rise to dynamics inherent to solitons, so that speed of the polaron can exceed the speed of sound. In a certain range of α and β, numerical calculations revealed a family of polaron-type stable solutions, the envelope of which can have several peaks. The numerical and exact analytical solutions are in very good agreement for a sufficiently large radius of the polaron, when the system of equations obtained in the continuum approximation has a solution.
