Larry had been an environmental consultant, expert witness, teacher, editor, writer, reviewer, and publisher and developed expert systems for antiterrorism. Bioluminescent Imaging Systems for Assay Developments.

Bioluminescence (BL) is an excellent optical readout platform that has great potential to be utilized in various bioassays and molecular imaging. The advantages of BL-based bioassays include the long dynamic range, minimal background, high signal-to-noise ratios, biocompatibility for use in cell-based assays, no need of external light source for excitation, simplicity in the measurement system, and versatility in the assay design. The recent intensive research in BL has greatly diversified the available luciferase-luciferin systems in the bioassay toolbox. However, the wide variety does not promise their successful utilization in various bioassays as new tools. This is mainly due to complexity and confusion with the diversity, and the unavailability of defined standards. This review is intended to provide an overview of recent basic developments and applications in BL studies, and showcases the bioanalytical utilities. We hope that this review can be used as an instant reference on BL and provides useful guidance for readers in narrowing down their potential options in their own assay designs.

Effective spectroscopic factor of the doublet ground state: A useful tool for comparison with outcome of EPR experiments

A mutual relation between the effective spectroscopic factors of the doublet ground state implied by the magnetization at saturation and the low-temperature susceptibility is established. Useful tools for the comparison and consistency check of the outcome of the EPR experiment and the results of the magnetic measurements at low-temperature are developed. Numerical values of the effective spectroscopic factor implied by the magnetization at saturation are provided for instant reference. The presented findings may be of valuable assistance in rationalizing the physical implications of the powder sample EPR experiment.

A FUZZY LOGIC REASONING BASED REAL TIME ENERGY PRICE REGULATION APPROACH FOR SMART GRIDS

Intelligent technologies have become pioneer force to provide flexible, dynamic and efficient energy generation and management. Thus, smart algorithms such as fuzzy logic, artificial neural network, machine learning, soft computing techniques are sole remedy against growing diverse and numerous distributed generations that make more complicated power system. Real time closed loop controlling requires energy price as a featured variable to procure supply demand equilibrium point for stable and reliable power system operation, where several dynamic models and estimation software are introduced in the literature. In this study, a fuzzy logic reasoning based price regulator (FLR-PR) is designed and simulated on MATLAB/Simulink environment using 2018 hourly data of a summer day taken from annual energy report of Turkey. Proposed model has been compared based on performance indexes to Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) price controller in the constituted simulation cases. FLR-PR tracks instant reference demand signal changes with minimum steady state error and fast transient response with respect to PID controller.

An Android Mobile Application for Guide to Terrorism

The way and manner the fundamentalist are penetrating our communities have posed serious threat to the populace, the government and the Army cannot be everywhere at the same time, the populace does not understand how to define terrorism due to its widely divergent views, the nature of terrorism, recognition of the terrorist and a terrorist threat is also not understood, properties and lives gone as a result of insurgency in the Northeastern part of Nigeria. This work is design to proffer instant reference guide and complement the Government and the Army to curb the activities of the terrorist and also to save lives. The designed, analysis and implementation were carried out using UML tools, Android studio (intelliJ platforms) and Java programming Language respectively. The application will serve as a reference guide for understanding terrorism and to allow the user to call or message the security personnel whenever there is an emergency using an android device as it will automatically show the user emergency number. When tested, the application have proven to guide and educate the populace on terrorism, it complements the government and the Army and also save lives and properties.

Sarcoidosis as a systemic disease

Sarcoidosis is a systemic disease, where for the abnormal localized collections of chronic inflammatory cells, the granuloma is cardinal, which may result in the formation of nodule(s) in the tissue of any organ of the body, with lungs and lymph nodes involvement being the most common. The granulomas are nonnecrotizing. The disease may either be asymptomatic or chronic. Its onset is gradual and may improve or clear up spontaneously. Clinical features of specific and nonspecific cutaneous lesions are described, emphasizing their role as a prelude to its systemic manifestations, afflicting respiratory, liver, spleen, musculoskeletal, ocular, cardiac, and neurologic systems. The salient briefs of diagnostic procedures are outlined, in addition to historical background and etiopathogenesis. Several currently available treatment modalities are outlined for instant reference.

Surfacing code in the dark: an instant clone search approach

In this paper, we study how to "surface" code for instant reference. A traditional mode of surfacing code has been treating code as text and applying keyword search techniques. However, many prior work observes the limitation of such approach: (1) semantic description of code is limited to comments and (2) syntactic keyword is often not selective enough. In contrast, we discuss enabling techniques and scenarios of instant semantic-based surfacing. For example, developers, during a development session, may reference the existing code sharing similar semantics, using his code so far as a query. In addition to such semantic-based surfacing, we also enhance keyword-based surfacing with semantics, by instantly adding semantic tags for code submitted to the repository. To achieve this goal, we first propose scalable indexing structures on vector abstractions of code. Our experimental results show our techniques outperform a state-of-the-art tool in efficiency without compromising accuracy. We then deploy our technique for instant search and tagging scenarios: For instant code search scenario, we demonstrate an instant clone search tool using our techniques, supporting sub-second search over 54 million LOC. For instant code tagging scenario, we propose an automatic instant code tagging algorithm to mine the meaningful tags from clones.

Frandsen, Arie Kuyvenhoven and Joachim von Braun, the goal of the book is to provide an important tool for understanding food policies and is aimed at a readership consisting of students, policymakers and people who work throughout the food system, as well as consumers and concerned citizens. It should certainly be ready to hand for all policymakers. Indeed, a fully searchable copy should be on their computers for instant reference! The authors faced the daunting task of presenting a multidimensional subject in the one-dimensional medium of the written word. Virtual chat services represent an exciting way to provide patrons of medical libraries with instant reference help in an academic environment. The purpose of this article is to examine the implementation, marketing process, use, and development of a virtual reference service initiated at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and its three-campus libraries. In addition, this paper will discuss practical recommendations for the future improvement of the service.

Development and application of a rat ovarian gene expression database.

The pituitary gonadotropins play a key role in follicular development and ovulation through the induction of specific genes. To identify these genes, we have constructed a genome-wide rat ovarian gene expression database (rOGED). The database was constructed from total RNA isolated from intact ovaries, granulosa cells, or residual ovarian tissues collected from immature pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG)/human chorionic gonadotropin-treated rats at 0 h (no PMSG), 12 h, and 48 h post PMSG, as well as 6 and 12 h post human chorionic gonadotropin. The total RNA was used for DNA microarray analysis using Affymetrix Rat Expression Arrays 230A and 230B (Affymetrix, Santa Clara, CA). The microarray data were compiled and used for display of individual gene expression profiles through specially developed software. The final rOGED provides immediate analysis of temporal gene expression profiles for over 28,000 genes in intact ovaries, granulosa cells, and residual ovarian tissue during follicular growth and the preovulatory period. The accuracy of the rOGED was validated against the gene profiles for over 20 known genes. The utility of the rOGED was demonstrated by identifying six genes that have not been described in the rat periovulatory ovary. The mRNA expression patterns and cellular localization for each of these six genes (estrogen sulfotransferase, synaptosomal-associated protein 25 kDa, runt-related transcription factor, calgranulin B, alpha1-macroglobulin, and MAPK phosphotase-3) were confirmed by Northern blot analyses and in situ hybridization, respectively. The current findings demonstrate that the rOGED can be used as an instant reference for ovarian gene expression profiles, as well as a reliable resource for identifying important yet, to date, unknown ovarian genes.

It is doubtful, however, if the excellent production of DeaneR Blackman will be in that category, for its format and the inclusion of tables of conversion factors and of tables and charts of properties of materials make it a volume more suitable for the bookshelf than a handy pocketbook for instant reference.
